Verse 37:20 in Context

16 أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ ۝١٦ a-idhā mit'nā wakunnā turāban waʿiẓāman a-innā lamabʿūthūn ‘What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we really be raised up again 17 أَوَ ءَابَاۤؤُنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ ۝١٧ awaābāunā l-awalūn along with our forefathers?’ 18 قُلۡ نَعَمۡ وَأَنتُمۡ دَ ٰخِرُونَ ۝١٨ qul naʿam wa-antum dākhirūn Say, ‘Yes indeed, and you will be humiliated.’ 19 فَإِنَّمَا هِیَ زَجۡرَةࣱ وَ ٰحِدَةࣱ فَإِذَا هُمۡ یَنظُرُونَ ۝١٩ fa-innamā hiya zajratun wāḥidatun fa-idhā hum yanẓurūn Just one blast and––lo and behold!––they will loo
20 وَقَالُوا۟ یَـٰوَیۡلَنَا هَـٰذَا یَوۡمُ ٱلدِّینِ ۝٢٠ waqālū yāwaylanā hādhā yawmu l-dīn and say, ‘Woe to us! This is the Day of Judgement.’
21 هَـٰذَا یَوۡمُ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ ٱلَّذِی كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ ۝٢١ hādhā yawmu l-faṣli alladhī kuntum bihi tukadhibūn [It will be said], ‘This is the Day of Decision, which you used to deny 22 ۞ ٱحۡشُرُوا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ وَأَزۡوَ ٰجَهُمۡ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡبُدُونَ ۝٢٢ uḥ'shurū alladhīna ẓalamū wa-azwājahum wamā kānū yaʿbudūn [Angels], gather together those who did wrong, and others like them, as well as whatever they worshippe 23 مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَٱهۡدُوهُمۡ إِلَىٰ صِرَ ٰطِ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ۝٢٣ min dūni l-lahi fa-ih'dūhum ilā ṣirāṭi l-jaḥīm beside God, lead them all to the path of Hell 24 وَقِفُوهُمۡۖ إِنَّهُم مَّسۡءُولُونَ ۝٢٤ waqifūhum innahum masūlūn and halt them for questioning
