15 أَفَعَیِینَا بِٱلۡخَلۡقِ ٱلۡأَوَّلِۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ فِی لَبۡسࣲ مِّنۡ خَلۡقࣲ جَدِیدࣲ ۝١٥ afaʿayīnā bil-khalqi l-awali bal hum fī labsin min khalqin jadīdi So were We incapable of the first creation? No indeed! Yet they doubt a second creation 16 وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ وَنَعۡلَمُ مَا تُوَسۡوِسُ بِهِۦ نَفۡسُهُۥۖ وَنَحۡنُ أَقۡرَبُ إِلَیۡهِ مِنۡ حَبۡلِ ٱلۡوَرِیدِ ۝١٦ walaqad khalaqnā l-insāna wanaʿlamu mā tuwaswisu bihi nafsuhu wanaḥnu aqrabu ilayhi min ḥabli l-warīd We created man––We know what his soul whispers to him: We are closer to him than his jugular vein–– 17 إِذۡ یَتَلَقَّى ٱلۡمُتَلَقِّیَانِ عَنِ ٱلۡیَمِینِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ قَعِیدࣱ ۝١٧ idh yatalaqqā l-mutalaqiyāni ʿani l-yamīni waʿani l-shimāli qaʿīdu with two receptors set to record, one on his right side and one on his left 18 مَّا یَلۡفِظُ مِن قَوۡلٍ إِلَّا لَدَیۡهِ رَقِیبٌ عَتِیدࣱ ۝١٨ mā yalfiẓu min qawlin illā ladayhi raqībun ʿatīdu he does not utter a single word without an ever-present watcher
19 وَجَاۤءَتۡ سَكۡرَةُ ٱلۡمَوۡتِ بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ ذَ ٰلِكَ مَا كُنتَ مِنۡهُ تَحِیدُ ۝١٩ wajāat sakratu l-mawti bil-ḥaqi dhālika mā kunta min'hu taḥīd The trance of death will bring the Truth with it: ‘This is what you tried to escape.’
20 وَنُفِخَ فِی ٱلصُّورِۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ یَوۡمُ ٱلۡوَعِیدِ ۝٢٠ wanufikha fī l-ṣūri dhālika yawmu l-waʿīd The Trumpet will be sounded: ‘This is the Day [you were] warned of.’ 21 وَجَاۤءَتۡ كُلُّ نَفۡسࣲ مَّعَهَا سَاۤىِٕقࣱ وَشَهِیدࣱ ۝٢١ wajāat kullu nafsin maʿahā sāiqun washahīdu Each person will arrive attended by an [angel] to drive him on and another to bear witness 22 لَّقَدۡ كُنتَ فِی غَفۡلَةࣲ مِّنۡ هَـٰذَا فَكَشَفۡنَا عَنكَ غِطَاۤءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ حَدِیدࣱ ۝٢٢ laqad kunta fī ghaflatin min hādhā fakashafnā ʿanka ghiṭāaka fabaṣaruka l-yawma ḥadīdu ‘You paid no attention to this [Day]; but today We have removed your veil and your sight is sharp.’ 23 وَقَالَ قَرِینُهُۥ هَـٰذَا مَا لَدَیَّ عَتِیدٌ ۝٢٣ waqāla qarīnuhu hādhā mā ladayya ʿatīdu The person’s attendant will say, ‘Here is what I have prepared’
