Verse 50:4 in Context

1 قۤۚ وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ ٱلۡمَجِیدِ ۝١ qaf wal-qur'āni l-majīd Qaf By the glorious Quran 2 بَلۡ عَجِبُوۤا۟ أَن جَاۤءَهُم مُّنذِرࣱ مِّنۡهُمۡ فَقَالَ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا شَیۡءٌ عَجِیبٌ ۝٢ bal ʿajibū an jāahum mundhirun min'hum faqāla l-kāfirūna hādhā shayon ʿajību But the disbelievers are amazed that a warner has come from among them and they say, ‘How strange 3 أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰاۖ ذَ ٰلِكَ رَجۡعُۢ بَعِیدࣱ ۝٣ a-idhā mit'nā wakunnā turāban dhālika rajʿun baʿīdu To come back [to life] after we have died and become dust? That is too farfetched.’
4 قَدۡ عَلِمۡنَا مَا تَنقُصُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ مِنۡهُمۡۖ وَعِندَنَا كِتَـٰبٌ حَفِیظُۢ ۝٤ qad ʿalim'nā mā tanquṣu l-arḍu min'hum waʿindanā kitābun ḥafīẓu We know very well what the earth takes away from them: We keep a comprehensive record
5 بَلۡ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِٱلۡحَقِّ لَمَّا جَاۤءَهُمۡ فَهُمۡ فِیۤ أَمۡرࣲ مَّرِیجٍ ۝٥ bal kadhabū bil-ḥaqi lammā jāahum fahum fī amrin marīji But the disbelievers deny the truth when it comes to them; they are in a state of confusion 6 أَفَلَمۡ یَنظُرُوۤا۟ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ فَوۡقَهُمۡ كَیۡفَ بَنَیۡنَـٰهَا وَزَیَّنَّـٰهَا وَمَا لَهَا مِن فُرُوجࣲ ۝٦ afalam yanẓurū ilā l-samāi fawqahum kayfa banaynāhā wazayyannāhā wamā lahā min furūji Do they not see the sky above them––how We have built and adorned it, with no rifts in it 7 وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ مَدَدۡنَـٰهَا وَأَلۡقَیۡنَا فِیهَا رَوَ ٰسِیَ وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِیهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوۡجِۭ بَهِیجࣲ ۝٧ wal-arḍa madadnāhā wa-alqaynā fīhā rawāsiya wa-anbatnā fīhā min kulli zawjin bahīji how We spread out the earth and put solid mountains on it, and caused every kind of joyous plant to grow in it 8 تَبۡصِرَةࣰ وَذِكۡرَىٰ لِكُلِّ عَبۡدࣲ مُّنِیبࣲ ۝٨ tabṣiratan wadhik'rā likulli ʿabdin munībi as a lesson and reminder for every servant who turns to God
