1 Truth of Revelation

الۤرۚ تِلۡكَ ءَایَـٰتُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ ٱلۡحَكِیمِ ۝١

A.L.R. These are the words of the Most Wise Book

alif-lam-ra til'ka āyātu l-kitābi l-ḥakīm

أَكَانَ لِلنَّاسِ عَجَبًا أَنۡ أَوۡحَیۡنَاۤ إِلَىٰ رَجُلࣲ مِّنۡهُمۡ أَنۡ أَنذِرِ ٱلنَّاسَ وَبَشِّرِ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ أَنَّ لَهُمۡ قَدَمَ صِدۡقٍ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡۗ قَالَ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرُونَ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَسَـٰحِرࣱ مُّبِینٌ ۝٢

Is it really a strange thing that I (God) should reveal my Words to an ordinary person (like Mohammad), in order to warn people of the consequence of their actions and to give good news to the believers about their rewards? Why that is then the disbelievers say: “This book is nothing but a sorcery?”

akāna lilnnāsi ʿajaban an awḥaynā ilā rajulin min'hum an andhiri l-nāsa wabashiri alladhīna āmanū anna lahum qadama ṣid'qin ʿinda rabbihim qāla l-kāfirūna inna hādhā lasāḥirun mubīnu

إِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ فِی سِتَّةِ أَیَّامࣲ ثُمَّ ٱسۡتَوَىٰ عَلَى ٱلۡعَرۡشِۖ یُدَبِّرُ ٱلۡأَمۡرَۖ مَا مِن شَفِیعٍ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ إِذۡنِهِۦۚ ذَ ٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمۡ فَٱعۡبُدُوهُۚ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٣

Your Creator is God: The One Who created the heavens and the earth in six periods. Then He assumed the control of His creation. Know that He is in control of everything. No one can intercede on behalf of someone else, before obtaining His permission to intercede first. Such is God your Creator. You should worship none but your Lord; Do you not get the message

inna rabbakumu l-lahu alladhī khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa fī sittati ayyāmin thumma is'tawā ʿalā l-ʿarshi yudabbiru l-amra mā min shafīʿin illā min baʿdi idh'nihi dhālikumu l-lahu rabbukum fa-uʿ'budūhu afalā tadhakkarūn

إِلَیۡهِ مَرۡجِعُكُمۡ جَمِیعࣰاۖ وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقًّاۚ إِنَّهُۥ یَبۡدَؤُا۟ ٱلۡخَلۡقَ ثُمَّ یُعِیدُهُۥ لِیَجۡزِیَ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ بِٱلۡقِسۡطِۚ وَٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَهُمۡ شَرَابࣱ مِّنۡ حَمِیمࣲ وَعَذَابٌ أَلِیمُۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡفُرُونَ ۝٤

Every one will eventually return to God. This is the true promise of your Lord. His creation recreates itself so that He may reward those who [have been equal and similar in creation and have chosen to] believe and adopt a righteous way of life. As for those who choose the disbelief, they will end up to drink a boiling dirty liquid in Hell as a part of their awful punishment

ilayhi marjiʿukum jamīʿan waʿda l-lahi ḥaqqan innahu yabda-u l-khalqa thumma yuʿīduhu liyajziya alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti bil-qis'ṭi wa-alladhīna kafarū lahum sharābun min ḥamīmin waʿadhābun alīmun bimā kānū yakfurūn

هُوَ ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَ ٱلشَّمۡسَ ضِیَاۤءࣰ وَٱلۡقَمَرَ نُورࣰا وَقَدَّرَهُۥ مَنَازِلَ لِتَعۡلَمُوا۟ عَدَدَ ٱلسِّنِینَ وَٱلۡحِسَابَۚ مَا خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ ذَ ٰلِكَ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّۚ یُفَصِّلُ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ لِقَوۡمࣲ یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٥

He is the One Who has made the sun a source of light and the moon to reflect the light. He has made the phases of moon extremely precise so that you may calculate your years and dates. God has not created all this [for fun] but for a specific purpose. See how clearly God explains His revelations for those people who contemplate

huwa alladhī jaʿala l-shamsa ḍiyāan wal-qamara nūran waqaddarahu manāzila litaʿlamū ʿadada l-sinīna wal-ḥisāba mā khalaqa l-lahu dhālika illā bil-ḥaqi yufaṣṣilu l-āyāti liqawmin yaʿlamūn

إِنَّ فِی ٱخۡتِلَـٰفِ ٱلَّیۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَتَّقُونَ ۝٦

Those who avoid the evils, [develop a faculty that enables them to] see [the natural phenomena such as] the appearance of the night after the passage of the day (as well as whatever God has created in the heavens and the earth) as the signs of the Lord (His existence and His greatness.

inna fī ikh'tilāfi al-layli wal-nahāri wamā khalaqa l-lahu fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi laāyātin liqawmin yattaqūn

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَرۡجُونَ لِقَاۤءَنَا وَرَضُوا۟ بِٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَٱطۡمَأَنُّوا۟ بِهَا وَٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ عَنۡ ءَایَـٰتِنَا غَـٰفِلُونَ ۝٧

Such singes do not mean anything to those who do not believe in their eventual meeting with Me, deeply engaged in their worldly affairs and [like the animals] content with their lives

inna alladhīna lā yarjūna liqāanā waraḍū bil-ḥayati l-dun'yā wa-iṭ'ma-annū bihā wa-alladhīna hum ʿan āyātinā ghāfilūn

أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ مَأۡوَىٰهُمُ ٱلنَّارُ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡسِبُونَ ۝٨

Such people will earn the Hellfire as their place to live

ulāika mawāhumu l-nāru bimā kānū yaksibūn

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ یَهۡدِیهِمۡ رَبُّهُم بِإِیمَـٰنِهِمۡۖ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهِمُ ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُ فِی جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِیمِ ۝٩

As for those who have chosen to believe and do good deeds, their Lord will re-enforce their belief, which will lead them to the Paradise where the canals flow under its gardens

inna alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti yahdīhim rabbuhum biīmānihim tajrī min taḥtihimu l-anhāru fī jannāti l-naʿīm

دَعۡوَىٰهُمۡ فِیهَا سُبۡحَـٰنَكَ ٱللَّهُمَّ وَتَحِیَّتُهُمۡ فِیهَا سَلَـٰمࣱۚ وَءَاخِرُ دَعۡوَىٰهُمۡ أَنِ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝١٠

In the Paradise they will pray: “Glory to the Lord.” They will be greeted with: “Peace” and their ultimate word of gratefulness will be: “Thank you, Lord of the universe.”

daʿwāhum fīhā sub'ḥānaka l-lahuma wataḥiyyatuhum fīhā salāmun waākhiru daʿwāhum ani l-ḥamdu lillahi rabbi l-ʿālamīn

2 Punishment of Rejection

۞ وَلَوۡ یُعَجِّلُ ٱللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ ٱلشَّرَّ ٱسۡتِعۡجَالَهُم بِٱلۡخَیۡرِ لَقُضِیَ إِلَیۡهِمۡ أَجَلُهُمۡۖ فَنَذَرُ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَرۡجُونَ لِقَاۤءَنَا فِی طُغۡیَـٰنِهِمۡ یَعۡمَهُونَ ۝١١

If the Lord had punished them in proportion to their deep involvement in the worldly affairs, their time would have come long time ago. Yet, I let those who do not believe in their meeting with Me to become deeper involved in their materialistic pursuit [and earn every bit of their punishment.]

walaw yuʿajjilu l-lahu lilnnāsi l-shara is'tiʿ'jālahum bil-khayri laquḍiya ilayhim ajaluhum fanadharu alladhīna lā yarjūna liqāanā fī ṭugh'yānihim yaʿmahūn

وَإِذَا مَسَّ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ ٱلضُّرُّ دَعَانَا لِجَنۢبِهِۦۤ أَوۡ قَاعِدًا أَوۡ قَاۤىِٕمࣰا فَلَمَّا كَشَفۡنَا عَنۡهُ ضُرَّهُۥ مَرَّ كَأَن لَّمۡ یَدۡعُنَاۤ إِلَىٰ ضُرࣲّ مَّسَّهُۥۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ زُیِّنَ لِلۡمُسۡرِفِینَ مَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٢

When man find himself in an unpleasant situation, he begs Me (no matter in what position: standing, sitting or lying down.) As soon as I [answer his prayer and] relieve him from the hardship, he forgets My favor and goes back to his routine! The sinners’ behavior seems fair to them and is justified by them

wa-idhā massa l-insāna l-ḍuru daʿānā lijanbihi aw qāʿidan aw qāiman falammā kashafnā ʿanhu ḍurrahu marra ka-an lam yadʿunā ilā ḍurrin massahu kadhālika zuyyina lil'mus'rifīna mā kānū yaʿmalūn

وَلَقَدۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَا ٱلۡقُرُونَ مِن قَبۡلِكُمۡ لَمَّا ظَلَمُوا۟ وَجَاۤءَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتِ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ لِیُؤۡمِنُوا۟ۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ ۝١٣

Do not forget that, before you, I destroyed [many] nations who had chosen the injustice [not the right path] as their way of life. They chose to disbelieve in their Messengers (whom I had sent with undeniable miracles.) I deal with the criminal people in such a manner [example: Sodom & Gomorrah.]

walaqad ahlaknā l-qurūna min qablikum lammā ẓalamū wajāathum rusuluhum bil-bayināti wamā kānū liyu'minū kadhālika najzī l-qawma l-muj'rimīn

ثُمَّ جَعَلۡنَـٰكُمۡ خَلَـٰۤىِٕفَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ لِنَنظُرَ كَیۡفَ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٤

Now, after them, I have put you in charge on earth to see how you will do

thumma jaʿalnākum khalāifa fī l-arḍi min baʿdihim linanẓura kayfa taʿmalūn

وَإِذَا تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡهِمۡ ءَایَاتُنَا بَیِّنَـٰتࣲ قَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَرۡجُونَ لِقَاۤءَنَا ٱئۡتِ بِقُرۡءَانٍ غَیۡرِ هَـٰذَاۤ أَوۡ بَدِّلۡهُۚ قُلۡ مَا یَكُونُ لِیۤ أَنۡ أُبَدِّلَهُۥ مِن تِلۡقَاۤىِٕ نَفۡسِیۤۖ إِنۡ أَتَّبِعُ إِلَّا مَا یُوحَىٰۤ إِلَیَّۖ إِنِّیۤ أَخَافُ إِنۡ عَصَیۡتُ رَبِّی عَذَابَ یَوۡمٍ عَظِیمࣲ ۝١٥

When My straight forward commandments are communicated to them, those (who do not believe that they will meet Me one day) say: “Why do you not fabricate another Qur’an and put in it such and such things to please us?” Answer: “I have not fabricated this Qur’an so that I may re-write it. I do not follow nothing but what is revealed to me. Indeed I am afraid of disobeying my Lord’s commandments and be sentenced to a punishment on the most awesome Day.”

wa-idhā tut'lā ʿalayhim āyātunā bayyinātin qāla alladhīna lā yarjūna liqāanā i'ti biqur'ānin ghayri hādhā aw baddil'hu qul mā yakūnu lī an ubaddilahu min til'qāi nafsī in attabiʿu illā mā yūḥā ilayya innī akhāfu in ʿaṣaytu rabbī ʿadhāba yawmin ʿaẓīmi

قُل لَّوۡ شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ مَا تَلَوۡتُهُۥ عَلَیۡكُمۡ وَلَاۤ أَدۡرَىٰكُم بِهِۦۖ فَقَدۡ لَبِثۡتُ فِیكُمۡ عُمُرࣰا مِّن قَبۡلِهِۦۤۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ ۝١٦

Say: “If it was not the will of God, I would not have recited any part of this Book to you. You would not even have known about the existence of such a Book. I have lived among you for the longest time [and you know my character and believe in me as a truthful person.] Why do you not use your common-sense?”

qul law shāa l-lahu mā talawtuhu ʿalaykum walā adrākum bihi faqad labith'tu fīkum ʿumuran min qablihi afalā taʿqilūn

فَمَنۡ أَظۡلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفۡتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا أَوۡ كَذَّبَ بِءَایَـٰتِهِۦۤۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا یُفۡلِحُ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ ۝١٧

“Who is more evil than the one who fabricates a lie [that you are asking me to do] and then ascribe it to the Lord? Who is more evil than the one who rejects the Lord’s commandments [the way that you are doing]? Such a criminal can never achieve the real success (i.e., earning his place in Paradise.

faman aẓlamu mimmani if'tarā ʿalā l-lahi kadhiban aw kadhaba biāyātihi innahu lā yuf'liḥu l-muj'rimūn

وَیَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا یَضُرُّهُمۡ وَلَا یَنفَعُهُمۡ وَیَقُولُونَ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ شُفَعَـٰۤؤُنَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِۚ قُلۡ أَتُنَبِّءُونَ ٱللَّهَ بِمَا لَا یَعۡلَمُ فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَلَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ سُبۡحَـٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝١٨

Those people, instead of worshipping God alone, worship the idols who can neither harm nor benefit them. They say: “These are intermediary between the Lord and us and will ask God to forgive us.” Reply: “Do you want to say that you are aware of the creatures that God Himself is not aware of neither in the heavens nor on earth?” Glory to the Lord; He is far above needing partners

wayaʿbudūna min dūni l-lahi mā lā yaḍurruhum walā yanfaʿuhum wayaqūlūna hāulāi shufaʿāunā ʿinda l-lahi qul atunabbiūna l-laha bimā lā yaʿlamu fī l-samāwāti walā fī l-arḍi sub'ḥānahu wataʿālā ʿammā yush'rikūn

وَمَا كَانَ ٱلنَّاسُ إِلَّاۤ أُمَّةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ فَٱخۡتَلَفُوا۟ۚ وَلَوۡلَا كَلِمَةࣱ سَبَقَتۡ مِن رَّبِّكَ لَقُضِیَ بَیۡنَهُمۡ فِیمَا فِیهِ یَخۡتَلِفُونَ ۝١٩

The people were used to belong to only one nation; then they created opposing communities. If it was not the pre-determined will of God (to let them keep their freedom of choice), He would have immediately judged among them [and would have prevented their separation.]

wamā kāna l-nāsu illā ummatan wāḥidatan fa-ikh'talafū walawlā kalimatun sabaqat min rabbika laquḍiya baynahum fīmā fīhi yakhtalifūn

وَیَقُولُونَ لَوۡلَاۤ أُنزِلَ عَلَیۡهِ ءَایَةࣱ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦۖ فَقُلۡ إِنَّمَا ٱلۡغَیۡبُ لِلَّهِ فَٱنتَظِرُوۤا۟ إِنِّی مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡمُنتَظِرِینَ ۝٢٠

They say: “How come Mohammad’s Lord has not sent a miracle as a sign for his prophet hood?” Reply: “The Lord is the Master of the world of unseen [it is up to Him to bless me with a miracle or not. Besides, did such undeniable miracles of the previous prophet change the attitude of their people?] Well, wait (for this undeniable miracle that you are looking for.) I, too, will wait with you (for the completion of the biggest miracle of all, i.e., this Qur’an.

wayaqūlūna lawlā unzila ʿalayhi āyatun min rabbihi faqul innamā l-ghaybu lillahi fa-intaẓirū innī maʿakum mina l-muntaẓirīn

3 Merciful Dealing

وَإِذَاۤ أَذَقۡنَا ٱلنَّاسَ رَحۡمَةࣰ مِّنۢ بَعۡدِ ضَرَّاۤءَ مَسَّتۡهُمۡ إِذَا لَهُم مَّكۡرࣱ فِیۤ ءَایَاتِنَاۚ قُلِ ٱللَّهُ أَسۡرَعُ مَكۡرًاۚ إِنَّ رُسُلَنَا یَكۡتُبُونَ مَا تَمۡكُرُونَ ۝٢١

When I show mercy and save people from a disaster (as the sea was opened to provide a safe passage for the Jews), they [forget such miracle (as the Jews forgot the pass over and started to worship the statue of a cow) and] start devising evil plans against My Revelations [like early Christians who put aside the Lord’s Revelations (presented to them in “Gospel According to Jesus Christ”) and devised their own gospels.) Say to them: “God will devise much more effective plans for you as He has ordered your plans to be written down (and presented against you in the most appropriate time.

wa-idhā adhaqnā l-nāsa raḥmatan min baʿdi ḍarrāa massathum idhā lahum makrun fī āyātinā quli l-lahu asraʿu makran inna rusulanā yaktubūna mā tamkurūn

هُوَ ٱلَّذِی یُسَیِّرُكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡبَرِّ وَٱلۡبَحۡرِۖ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا كُنتُمۡ فِی ٱلۡفُلۡكِ وَجَرَیۡنَ بِهِم بِرِیحࣲ طَیِّبَةࣲ وَفَرِحُوا۟ بِهَا جَاۤءَتۡهَا رِیحٌ عَاصِفࣱ وَجَاۤءَهُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡجُ مِن كُلِّ مَكَانࣲ وَظَنُّوۤا۟ أَنَّهُمۡ أُحِیطَ بِهِمۡ دَعَوُا۟ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡلِصِینَ لَهُ ٱلدِّینَ لَىِٕنۡ أَنجَیۡتَنَا مِنۡ هَـٰذِهِۦ لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلشَّـٰكِرِینَ ۝٢٢

You are the same people who enjoy the pleasant wind which moves your ships in the sea. Then, when a strong storm blows upon you from every side, you start begging from the bottom of your heart for a “miracle” and promise that you will be My sincere servants

huwa alladhī yusayyirukum fī l-bari wal-baḥri ḥattā idhā kuntum fī l-ful'ki wajarayna bihim birīḥin ṭayyibatin wafariḥū bihā jāathā rīḥun ʿāṣifun wajāahumu l-mawju min kulli makānin waẓannū annahum uḥīṭa bihim daʿawū l-laha mukh'liṣīna lahu l-dīna la-in anjaytanā min hādhihi lanakūnanna mina l-shākirīn

فَلَمَّاۤ أَنجَىٰهُمۡ إِذَا هُمۡ یَبۡغُونَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ بِغَیۡرِ ٱلۡحَقِّۗ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ إِنَّمَا بَغۡیُكُمۡ عَلَىٰۤ أَنفُسِكُمۖ مَّتَـٰعَ ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَاۖ ثُمَّ إِلَیۡنَا مَرۡجِعُكُمۡ فَنُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٢٣

When the Lord [miraculously] saves you, however, you [go back to your old tricks and] rebel against the Truth. Know that this rebellion of yours harms only your own souls. You are so preoccupied with this world that you forget [that pretty soon] you have to return to your Lord [and imagine the embarrassment at the moment] when your actions are played back to you at the presence of your Lord

falammā anjāhum idhā hum yabghūna fī l-arḍi bighayri l-ḥaqi yāayyuhā l-nāsu innamā baghyukum ʿalā anfusikum matāʿa l-ḥayati l-dun'yā thumma ilaynā marjiʿukum fanunabbi-ukum bimā kuntum taʿmalūn

إِنَّمَا مَثَلُ ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا كَمَاۤءٍ أَنزَلۡنَـٰهُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ فَٱخۡتَلَطَ بِهِۦ نَبَاتُ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مِمَّا یَأۡكُلُ ٱلنَّاسُ وَٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمُ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَاۤ أَخَذَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ زُخۡرُفَهَا وَٱزَّیَّنَتۡ وَظَنَّ أَهۡلُهَاۤ أَنَّهُمۡ قَـٰدِرُونَ عَلَیۡهَاۤ أَتَىٰهَاۤ أَمۡرُنَا لَیۡلًا أَوۡ نَهَارࣰا فَجَعَلۡنَـٰهَا حَصِیدࣰا كَأَن لَّمۡ تَغۡنَ بِٱلۡأَمۡسِۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ لِقَوۡمࣲ یَتَفَكَّرُونَ ۝٢٤

The [instability of the] life in this world can be exemplified by the following [true] story: Once upon a time, I sent rain from the sky which caused the crops (which sustains man and animals equally) cover the earth. Then, at the height of the abundance (when the land owners were happy, presuming that they are going to be blessed with an unusual profit), I sent a catastrophe (in the night or the day [whichever you choose]) that all of a sudden destroyed the whole land as though nothing existed there before. See how clearly I make my points for those people who contemplate

innamā mathalu l-ḥayati l-dun'yā kamāin anzalnāhu mina l-samāi fa-ikh'talaṭa bihi nabātu l-arḍi mimmā yakulu l-nāsu wal-anʿāmu ḥattā idhā akhadhati l-arḍu zukh'rufahā wa-izzayyanat waẓanna ahluhā annahum qādirūna ʿalayhā atāhā amrunā laylan aw nahāran fajaʿalnāhā ḥaṣīdan ka-an lam taghna bil-amsi kadhālika nufaṣṣilu l-āyāti liqawmin yatafakkarūn

وَٱللَّهُ یَدۡعُوۤا۟ إِلَىٰ دَارِ ٱلسَّلَـٰمِ وَیَهۡدِی مَن یَشَاۤءُ إِلَىٰ صِرَ ٰطࣲ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣲ ۝٢٥

God invites you to a peaceful place (not an instable place like earth as mentioned above.) He guides whoever He wills (and deserves) to the right path

wal-lahu yadʿū ilā dāri l-salāmi wayahdī man yashāu ilā ṣirāṭin mus'taqīmi

۞ لِّلَّذِینَ أَحۡسَنُوا۟ ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ وَزِیَادَةࣱۖ وَلَا یَرۡهَقُ وُجُوهَهُمۡ قَتَرࣱ وَلَا ذِلَّةٌۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡجَنَّةِۖ هُمۡ فِیهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝٢٦

Those who have done many good deeds (and earned their Lord’s guidance to the straight path) their rewards will be multiplied [and they will receive much more than they deserve.] Their faces will not reflect any sadness nor disgrace (on the Day of Judgment.) They will live forever in the Paradise

lilladhīna aḥsanū l-ḥus'nā waziyādatun walā yarhaqu wujūhahum qatarun walā dhillatun ulāika aṣḥābu l-janati hum fīhā khālidūn

وَٱلَّذِینَ كَسَبُوا۟ ٱلسَّیِّءَاتِ جَزَاۤءُ سَیِّئَةِۭ بِمِثۡلِهَا وَتَرۡهَقُهُمۡ ذِلَّةࣱۖ مَّا لَهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مِنۡ عَاصِمࣲۖ كَأَنَّمَاۤ أُغۡشِیَتۡ وُجُوهُهُمۡ قِطَعࣰا مِّنَ ٱلَّیۡلِ مُظۡلِمًاۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِۖ هُمۡ فِیهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝٢٧

As for those who earned sins, their punishment will be proportional to their wrongdoings (and not many folded like the reward of the righteous people.) They will realize that there is none to save them from the punishment of the Lord. Disgrace will cover them and their face will turn black; as black as the darkness of the night. They were wrong to their souls and have to pay for it by staying in the Hell forever

wa-alladhīna kasabū l-sayiāti jazāu sayyi-atin bimith'lihā watarhaquhum dhillatun mā lahum mina l-lahi min ʿāṣimin ka-annamā ugh'shiyat wujūhuhum qiṭaʿan mina al-layli muẓ'liman ulāika aṣḥābu l-nāri hum fīhā khālidūn

وَیَوۡمَ نَحۡشُرُهُمۡ جَمِیعࣰا ثُمَّ نَقُولُ لِلَّذِینَ أَشۡرَكُوا۟ مَكَانَكُمۡ أَنتُمۡ وَشُرَكَاۤؤُكُمۡۚ فَزَیَّلۡنَا بَیۡنَهُمۡۖ وَقَالَ شُرَكَاۤؤُهُم مَّا كُنتُمۡ إِیَّانَا تَعۡبُدُونَ ۝٢٨

On the Day that they are all raised, I will ask them: “Where are those whom you referred to as My partners?” Once they confront their gods, the latter will say: “We did not have the least idea that you were worshipping us!”

wayawma naḥshuruhum jamīʿan thumma naqūlu lilladhīna ashrakū makānakum antum washurakāukum fazayyalnā baynahum waqāla shurakāuhum mā kuntum iyyānā taʿbudūn

فَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ شَهِیدَۢا بَیۡنَنَا وَبَیۡنَكُمۡ إِن كُنَّا عَنۡ عِبَادَتِكُمۡ لَغَـٰفِلِینَ ۝٢٩

“We take God [Who is the best Witness] as our Witness that we did not have the least idea that you were worshipping us.”

fakafā bil-lahi shahīdan baynanā wabaynakum in kunnā ʿan ʿibādatikum laghāfilīn

هُنَالِكَ تَبۡلُوا۟ كُلُّ نَفۡسࣲ مَّاۤ أَسۡلَفَتۡۚ وَرُدُّوۤا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ مَوۡلَىٰهُمُ ٱلۡحَقِّۖ وَضَلَّ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ یَفۡتَرُونَ ۝٣٠

On that Day, every soul will taste what he has earned. Every one will be brought to the presence of his Lord and the gods that they themselves invented, will abandon them

hunālika tablū kullu nafsin mā aslafat waruddū ilā l-lahi mawlāhumu l-ḥaqi waḍalla ʿanhum mā kānū yaftarūn

4 Uniqueness of Divine Gifts

قُلۡ مَن یَرۡزُقُكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَمَّن یَمۡلِكُ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرَ وَمَن یُخۡرِجُ ٱلۡحَیَّ مِنَ ٱلۡمَیِّتِ وَیُخۡرِجُ ٱلۡمَیِّتَ مِنَ ٱلۡحَیِّ وَمَن یُدَبِّرُ ٱلۡأَمۡرَۚ فَسَیَقُولُونَ ٱللَّهُۚ فَقُلۡ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ۝٣١

Ask them: “Who provides your means of existence from the sky above (such as oxygen for breathing and rain for cultivation) and the earth below (such as food and running water?) Who has given you the ability to hear and to see? Who makes life appear from death and replaces death with life?” They will answer: “God.” Say: “Why then you do not respect the Lord (and do not obey His Commandments?)”

qul man yarzuqukum mina l-samāi wal-arḍi amman yamliku l-samʿa wal-abṣāra waman yukh'riju l-ḥaya mina l-mayiti wayukh'riju l-mayita mina l-ḥayi waman yudabbiru l-amra fasayaqūlūna l-lahu faqul afalā tattaqūn

فَذَ ٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمُ ٱلۡحَقُّۖ فَمَاذَا بَعۡدَ ٱلۡحَقِّ إِلَّا ٱلضَّلَـٰلُۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُصۡرَفُونَ ۝٣٢

As you admit, your true Lord is God. If you are not following the truth, you are naturally following what is wrong. Why are you then following those who are misleading you

fadhālikumu l-lahu rabbukumu l-ḥaqu famādhā baʿda l-ḥaqi illā l-ḍalālu fa-annā tuṣ'rafūn

كَذَ ٰلِكَ حَقَّتۡ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِینَ فَسَقُوۤا۟ أَنَّهُمۡ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٣٣

These are the true words of your Lord to the corrupt people. What a shame that they do not choose to believe

kadhālika ḥaqqat kalimatu rabbika ʿalā alladhīna fasaqū annahum lā yu'minūn

قُلۡ هَلۡ مِن شُرَكَاۤىِٕكُم مَّن یَبۡدَؤُا۟ ٱلۡخَلۡقَ ثُمَّ یُعِیدُهُۥۚ قُلِ ٱللَّهُ یَبۡدَؤُا۟ ٱلۡخَلۡقَ ثُمَّ یُعِیدُهُۥۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُؤۡفَكُونَ ۝٣٤

Ask the disbelievers: “Which one of those whom you worship is capable of creating something out of nothing and then let it recreate itself?” Say: “God is the One Who originates the creation and then [put a mechanism in it and] let it re-produce itself.”

qul hal min shurakāikum man yabda-u l-khalqa thumma yuʿīduhu quli l-lahu yabda-u l-khalqa thumma yuʿīduhu fa-annā tu'fakūn

قُلۡ هَلۡ مِن شُرَكَاۤىِٕكُم مَّن یَهۡدِیۤ إِلَى ٱلۡحَقِّۚ قُلِ ٱللَّهُ یَهۡدِی لِلۡحَقِّۗ أَفَمَن یَهۡدِیۤ إِلَى ٱلۡحَقِّ أَحَقُّ أَن یُتَّبَعَ أَمَّن لَّا یَهِدِّیۤ إِلَّاۤ أَن یُهۡدَىٰۖ فَمَا لَكُمۡ كَیۡفَ تَحۡكُمُونَ ۝٣٥

Ask the disbelievers: “Which one of those whom you worship guides you to the truth?” Say: “It is only God alone who guides you to the truth.” This being clearly stated, ask them: “Who is more worthy to be followed: He Who guides to the truth or the one who cannot guide, unless he himself be guided? What is wrong with you that you cannot use your straight sense of judgment?”

qul hal min shurakāikum man yahdī ilā l-ḥaqi quli l-lahu yahdī lil'ḥaqqi afaman yahdī ilā l-ḥaqi aḥaqqu an yuttabaʿa amman lā yahiddī illā an yuh'dā famā lakum kayfa taḥkumūn

وَمَا یَتَّبِعُ أَكۡثَرُهُمۡ إِلَّا ظَنًّاۚ إِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا یُغۡنِی مِنَ ٱلۡحَقِّ شَیۡءًاۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِیمُۢ بِمَا یَفۡعَلُونَ ۝٣٦

The fact of the matter is, most of them base their lives on false assumptions. Such assumptions then cannot guide them to the truth [and they are led to evil deeds] and God is aware of their evil deeds

wamā yattabiʿu aktharuhum illā ẓannan inna l-ẓana lā yugh'nī mina l-ḥaqi shayan inna l-laha ʿalīmun bimā yafʿalūn

وَمَا كَانَ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانُ أَن یُفۡتَرَىٰ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَـٰكِن تَصۡدِیقَ ٱلَّذِی بَیۡنَ یَدَیۡهِ وَتَفۡصِیلَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ لَا رَیۡبَ فِیهِ مِن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٣٧

This Qur’an is impossible to have been authored by none but the Lord. It confirms [the intact part of] the previous Scriptures and fully explains the Book [that God has authored to be used as a hand book for mankind’s salvation.] Without any doubt, it is sent by the Lord of the universe

wamā kāna hādhā l-qur'ānu an yuf'tarā min dūni l-lahi walākin taṣdīqa alladhī bayna yadayhi watafṣīla l-kitābi lā rayba fīhi min rabbi l-ʿālamīn

أَمۡ یَقُولُونَ ٱفۡتَرَىٰهُۖ قُلۡ فَأۡتُوا۟ بِسُورَةࣲ مِّثۡلِهِۦ وَٱدۡعُوا۟ مَنِ ٱسۡتَطَعۡتُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝٣٨

To those who say: “Qur’an is authored by man” say: “write a chapter similar to its chapters and ask for anybody’s help, if you really believe in what you say.”

am yaqūlūna if'tarāhu qul fatū bisūratin mith'lihi wa-id'ʿū mani is'taṭaʿtum min dūni l-lahi in kuntum ṣādiqīn

بَلۡ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِمَا لَمۡ یُحِیطُوا۟ بِعِلۡمِهِۦ وَلَمَّا یَأۡتِهِمۡ تَأۡوِیلُهُۥۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ كَذَّبَ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡۖ فَٱنظُرۡ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٣٩

The fact of the matter is, they have rejected Qur’an without studying it or contemplating about its verses. The previous disbelievers did the same thing and see where they ended up

bal kadhabū bimā lam yuḥīṭū biʿil'mihi walammā yatihim tawīluhu kadhālika kadhaba alladhīna min qablihim fa-unẓur kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu l-ẓālimīn

وَمِنۡهُم مَّن یُؤۡمِنُ بِهِۦ وَمِنۡهُم مَّن لَّا یُؤۡمِنُ بِهِۦۚ وَرَبُّكَ أَعۡلَمُ بِٱلۡمُفۡسِدِینَ ۝٤٠

Some of these disbelievers believe in the Qur’an’s divine source (and eventually will embrace Islam) and some do not believe in it. Let it be known that God is fully aware of those who have chosen corruption as their way of life

wamin'hum man yu'minu bihi wamin'hum man lā yu'minu bihi warabbuka aʿlamu bil-muf'sidīn

5 Reprobates' Punishment

وَإِن كَذَّبُوكَ فَقُل لِّی عَمَلِی وَلَكُمۡ عَمَلُكُمۡۖ أَنتُم بَرِیۤءُونَ مِمَّاۤ أَعۡمَلُ وَأَنَا۠ بَرِیۤءࣱ مِّمَّا تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٤١

If the disbelievers insist that you are an imposter, say to them: “We are each responsible for our deeds. I am not accountable for what you do and you will not be held responsible for what I do.”

wa-in kadhabūka faqul lī ʿamalī walakum ʿamalukum antum barīūna mimmā aʿmalu wa-anā barīon mimmā taʿmalūn

وَمِنۡهُم مَّن یَسۡتَمِعُونَ إِلَیۡكَۚ أَفَأَنتَ تُسۡمِعُ ٱلصُّمَّ وَلَوۡ كَانُوا۟ لَا یَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٤٢

Among the disbelievers, they are those who (due to their prejudices, have already made up their mind not to hear what you say but) just listen. Can you make the deaf (who is also suffering from lack of understanding) to hear what you say

wamin'hum man yastamiʿūna ilayka afa-anta tus'miʿu l-ṣuma walaw kānū lā yaʿqilūn

وَمِنۡهُم مَّن یَنظُرُ إِلَیۡكَۚ أَفَأَنتَ تَهۡدِی ٱلۡعُمۡیَ وَلَوۡ كَانُوا۟ لَا یُبۡصِرُونَ ۝٤٣

Some of them look at you; but can you make such blind people who are deprived of the ability of seeing to see

wamin'hum man yanẓuru ilayka afa-anta tahdī l-ʿum'ya walaw kānū lā yub'ṣirūn

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یَظۡلِمُ ٱلنَّاسَ شَیۡءࣰا وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱلنَّاسَ أَنفُسَهُمۡ یَظۡلِمُونَ ۝٤٤

The fact of the matter is, God is never unjust to people (as He has already sent this Qur’an as a sign of His justice and mercy.) They are people themselves who are unjust to themselves (and not obey the Lord’s commandments.

inna l-laha lā yaẓlimu l-nāsa shayan walākinna l-nāsa anfusahum yaẓlimūn

وَیَوۡمَ یَحۡشُرُهُمۡ كَأَن لَّمۡ یَلۡبَثُوۤا۟ إِلَّا سَاعَةࣰ مِّنَ ٱلنَّهَارِ یَتَعَارَفُونَ بَیۡنَهُمۡۚ قَدۡ خَسِرَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِلِقَاۤءِ ٱللَّهِ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُهۡتَدِینَ ۝٤٥

The Day that people are raised, they will have the feeling that they lived on earth for only a few hours in order to become acquainted with each other. The disbelievers among them (who did not believe in their meeting with the Lord) will then realize how much of a looser they have been for not earning the guidance

wayawma yaḥshuruhum ka-an lam yalbathū illā sāʿatan mina l-nahāri yataʿārafūna baynahum qad khasira alladhīna kadhabū biliqāi l-lahi wamā kānū muh'tadīn

وَإِمَّا نُرِیَنَّكَ بَعۡضَ ٱلَّذِی نَعِدُهُمۡ أَوۡ نَتَوَفَّیَنَّكَ فَإِلَیۡنَا مَرۡجِعُهُمۡ ثُمَّ ٱللَّهُ شَهِیدٌ عَلَىٰ مَا یَفۡعَلُونَ ۝٤٦

It does not matter whether You live long enough to see how they will pay for their evil deeds or not live long enough to witness it. The fact of the matter is, they have to return to Me so that I show what evils they have been doing

wa-immā nuriyannaka baʿḍa alladhī naʿiduhum aw natawaffayannaka fa-ilaynā marjiʿuhum thumma l-lahu shahīdun ʿalā mā yafʿalūn

وَلِكُلِّ أُمَّةࣲ رَّسُولࣱۖ فَإِذَا جَاۤءَ رَسُولُهُمۡ قُضِیَ بَیۡنَهُم بِٱلۡقِسۡطِ وَهُمۡ لَا یُظۡلَمُونَ ۝٤٧

Every nation is blessed with a prophet (to tell them what is right and what is wrong.) They will be tried at the presence of their own prophet so that no one be unjustly sentenced (for not having heard the truth.

walikulli ummatin rasūlun fa-idhā jāa rasūluhum quḍiya baynahum bil-qis'ṭi wahum lā yuẓ'lamūn

وَیَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡوَعۡدُ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝٤٨

They [open their mouths without thinking and] say: “If you are truthful, subject us to this awful punishment that you are threatening with [not realizing that if they receive the punishment, there will be no time left for avoiding it which is exactly why the prophets are sent.]

wayaqūlūna matā hādhā l-waʿdu in kuntum ṣādiqīn

قُل لَّاۤ أَمۡلِكُ لِنَفۡسِی ضَرࣰّا وَلَا نَفۡعًا إِلَّا مَا شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُۗ لِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلٌۚ إِذَا جَاۤءَ أَجَلُهُمۡ فَلَا یَسۡتَءۡخِرُونَ سَاعَةࣰ وَلَا یَسۡتَقۡدِمُونَ ۝٤٩

Say to them: “I do not have any power of my own to materialize my wishful thinking or to prevent any hardship which I am destined to go through. Whatever is the Will of Lord will happen. Every nation has a destiny; when its time come, it will neither be postponed nor advanced.”

qul lā amliku linafsī ḍarran walā nafʿan illā mā shāa l-lahu likulli ummatin ajalun idhā jāa ajaluhum falā yastakhirūna sāʿatan walā yastaqdimūn

قُلۡ أَرَءَیۡتُمۡ إِنۡ أَتَىٰكُمۡ عَذَابُهُۥ بَیَـٰتًا أَوۡ نَهَارࣰا مَّاذَا یَسۡتَعۡجِلُ مِنۡهُ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ ۝٥٠

Say to them: “Suppose the Lord’s punishment [that you are asking to be subjected to as a proof of the existence of God] comes upon you (all of a sudden, at night or during the day), What are you going to do to save yourselves from such punishment then?” Why is it that these criminals are anxious to be sentenced to the punishment as soon as possible

qul ara-aytum in atākum ʿadhābuhu bayātan aw nahāran mādhā yastaʿjilu min'hu l-muj'rimūn

أَثُمَّ إِذَا مَا وَقَعَ ءَامَنتُم بِهِۦۤۚ ءَاۤلۡءَـٰنَ وَقَدۡ كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَ ۝٥١

If you see your doom with your own eyes, will you believe then? But how can you then escape from an inescapable event that you asked to happen to you

athumma idhā mā waqaʿa āmantum bihi āl'āna waqad kuntum bihi tastaʿjilūn

ثُمَّ قِیلَ لِلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابَ ٱلۡخُلۡدِ هَلۡ تُجۡزَوۡنَ إِلَّا بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡسِبُونَ ۝٥٢

When the criminals are subjected to their punishment, they will be told: “Now taste this everlasting torture. What else did you expect to earn for your evil deeds?”

thumma qīla lilladhīna ẓalamū dhūqū ʿadhāba l-khul'di hal tuj'zawna illā bimā kuntum taksibūn

۞ وَیَسۡتَنۢبِءُونَكَ أَحَقٌّ هُوَۖ قُلۡ إِی وَرَبِّیۤ إِنَّهُۥ لَحَقࣱّۖ وَمَاۤ أَنتُم بِمُعۡجِزِینَ ۝٥٣

They will ask then: “Is what you say really true?” Respond: “By my Lord it is absolutely true, and you can do nothing to escape from it.”

wayastanbiūnaka aḥaqqun huwa qul ī warabbī innahu laḥaqqun wamā antum bimuʿ'jizīn

6 Mercy takes Precedence of Punishment

وَلَوۡ أَنَّ لِكُلِّ نَفۡسࣲ ظَلَمَتۡ مَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ لَٱفۡتَدَتۡ بِهِۦۗ وَأَسَرُّوا۟ ٱلنَّدَامَةَ لَمَّا رَأَوُا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابَۖ وَقُضِیَ بَیۡنَهُم بِٱلۡقِسۡطِ وَهُمۡ لَا یُظۡلَمُونَ ۝٥٤

Every soul, who has been unjust to himself, will gladly pay whatever in the world he owns, to escape from his doom. When they feel the torture that they have to go through, they will be absolutely sorry for what they have done. They will be judged fairly without the least injustice

walaw anna likulli nafsin ẓalamat mā fī l-arḍi la-if'tadat bihi wa-asarrū l-nadāmata lammā ra-awū l-ʿadhāba waquḍiya baynahum bil-qis'ṭi wahum lā yuẓ'lamūn

أَلَاۤ إِنَّ لِلَّهِ مَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۗ أَلَاۤ إِنَّ وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقࣱّ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٥٥

The fact of the matter is, whatever there is in the heavens and the earth belongs to the Lord. Know that the Lord’s word is true. What a shame that most disbelievers do not believe Him

alā inna lillahi mā fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi alā inna waʿda l-lahi ḥaqqun walākinna aktharahum lā yaʿlamūn

هُوَ یُحۡیِۦ وَیُمِیتُ وَإِلَیۡهِ تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝٥٦

God is the One Who gives life and takes the life away and to Him you will all return

huwa yuḥ'yī wayumītu wa-ilayhi tur'jaʿūn

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ قَدۡ جَاۤءَتۡكُم مَّوۡعِظَةࣱ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ وَشِفَاۤءࣱ لِّمَا فِی ٱلصُّدُورِ وَهُدࣰى وَرَحۡمَةࣱ لِّلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٥٧

O’ mankind, God, hereby, has sent you the Admonition so that you use it as guidance (a set of criteria to distinguish right from wrong.) It is the remedy for your sick souls and indicates how merciful the Lord is to those who choose to believe in Him

yāayyuhā l-nāsu qad jāatkum mawʿiẓatun min rabbikum washifāon limā fī l-ṣudūri wahudan waraḥmatun lil'mu'minīn

قُلۡ بِفَضۡلِ ٱللَّهِ وَبِرَحۡمَتِهِۦ فَبِذَ ٰلِكَ فَلۡیَفۡرَحُوا۟ هُوَ خَیۡرࣱ مِّمَّا یَجۡمَعُونَ ۝٥٨

Say: “It is in account of the generosity and mercy of the Lord that you have received this Qur’an. May them enjoy it as it is better than what they come up with themselves (such as civil laws.

qul bifaḍli l-lahi wabiraḥmatihi fabidhālika falyafraḥū huwa khayrun mimmā yajmaʿūn

قُلۡ أَرَءَیۡتُم مَّاۤ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُم مِّن رِّزۡقࣲ فَجَعَلۡتُم مِّنۡهُ حَرَامࣰا وَحَلَـٰلࣰا قُلۡ ءَاۤللَّهُ أَذِنَ لَكُمۡۖ أَمۡ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ تَفۡتَرُونَ ۝٥٩

Say to them: “Have you ever contemplated how God provides all kind of things that your life depends upon them? How come then you make some of them lawful and some of them unlawful for yourselves? Is your decision (to make some lawful and some unlawful) based upon the Lord’s commandments? Why are you falsely ascribing your fabrications to the Lord?”

qul ara-aytum mā anzala l-lahu lakum min riz'qin fajaʿaltum min'hu ḥarāman waḥalālan qul āllahu adhina lakum am ʿalā l-lahi taftarūn

وَمَا ظَنُّ ٱلَّذِینَ یَفۡتَرُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡكَذِبَ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَذُو فَضۡلٍ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا یَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٦٠

What kind of reward these liars (who ascribe their fabrications to the Lord) expect to receive from God on the Day of Resurrection? God is so generous to mankind; what a shame that most of the are so ungrateful

wamā ẓannu alladhīna yaftarūna ʿalā l-lahi l-kadhiba yawma l-qiyāmati inna l-laha ladhū faḍlin ʿalā l-nāsi walākinna aktharahum lā yashkurūn

7 Good News for Faithful

وَمَا تَكُونُ فِی شَأۡنࣲ وَمَا تَتۡلُوا۟ مِنۡهُ مِن قُرۡءَانࣲ وَلَا تَعۡمَلُونَ مِنۡ عَمَلٍ إِلَّا كُنَّا عَلَیۡكُمۡ شُهُودًا إِذۡ تُفِیضُونَ فِیهِۚ وَمَا یَعۡزُبُ عَن رَّبِّكَ مِن مِّثۡقَالِ ذَرَّةࣲ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَا فِی ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ وَلَاۤ أَصۡغَرَ مِن ذَ ٰلِكَ وَلَاۤ أَكۡبَرَ إِلَّا فِی كِتَـٰبࣲ مُّبِینٍ ۝٦١

God witnesses whatever you (Mohammad) do; be it reciting from the Qur’an or getting yourself into a situation. God also witnesses whatever everyone else does. There is nothing hidden from the Lord; be it an atom or something, smaller (sub-atomic particles), or bigger than that (the galaxies.) Everything is registered in the Book (computer) of God

wamā takūnu fī shanin wamā tatlū min'hu min qur'ānin walā taʿmalūna min ʿamalin illā kunnā ʿalaykum shuhūdan idh tufīḍūna fīhi wamā yaʿzubu ʿan rabbika min mith'qāli dharratin fī l-arḍi walā fī l-samāi walā aṣghara min dhālika walā akbara illā fī kitābin mubīni

أَلَاۤ إِنَّ أَوۡلِیَاۤءَ ٱللَّهِ لَا خَوۡفٌ عَلَیۡهِمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ یَحۡزَنُونَ ۝٦٢

Rest assured that the Lord’s friends will not be touched by grief or sadness (in Hereafter.

alā inna awliyāa l-lahi lā khawfun ʿalayhim walā hum yaḥzanūn

ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ یَتَّقُونَ ۝٦٣

These are those who believed in God and approached Him with the utmost respect

alladhīna āmanū wakānū yattaqūn

لَهُمُ ٱلۡبُشۡرَىٰ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَفِی ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِۚ لَا تَبۡدِیلَ لِكَلِمَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِیمُ ۝٦٤

For such people there is good news (which gives them peace of mind) in this world and joy and happiness in Hereafter. God’s words cannot be changed (neither He changes it nor let man to change it.) Such people have achieved the greatest success

lahumu l-bush'rā fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā wafī l-ākhirati lā tabdīla likalimāti l-lahi dhālika huwa l-fawzu l-ʿaẓīm

وَلَا یَحۡزُنكَ قَوۡلُهُمۡۘ إِنَّ ٱلۡعِزَّةَ لِلَّهِ جَمِیعًاۚ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِیعُ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ۝٦٥

Do not let their remarks put you down. What really counts is the honor that you receive from the Lord (and not a medal or a word of praise from a person.) God Hears and knows everything

walā yaḥzunka qawluhum inna l-ʿizata lillahi jamīʿan huwa l-samīʿu l-ʿalīm

أَلَاۤ إِنَّ لِلَّهِ مَن فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَمَن فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِۗ وَمَا یَتَّبِعُ ٱلَّذِینَ یَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ شُرَكَاۤءَۚ إِن یَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَإِنۡ هُمۡ إِلَّا یَخۡرُصُونَ ۝٦٦

Know that all creatures in the heavens and on the earth belong to God. Those who worship others beside God, follow nothing but their fantasies. They have based their lives upon mere assumptions

alā inna lillahi man fī l-samāwāti waman fī l-arḍi wamā yattabiʿu alladhīna yadʿūna min dūni l-lahi shurakāa in yattabiʿūna illā l-ẓana wa-in hum illā yakhruṣūn

هُوَ ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلَّیۡلَ لِتَسۡكُنُوا۟ فِیهِ وَٱلنَّهَارَ مُبۡصِرًاۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَسۡمَعُونَ ۝٦٧

God is the One Who created the night so that you rest and brightened up the day. Those who listen, find the Lord’s signs in these [taken for granted] phenomena

huwa alladhī jaʿala lakumu al-layla litaskunū fīhi wal-nahāra mub'ṣiran inna fī dhālika laāyātin liqawmin yasmaʿūn

قَالُوا۟ ٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ وَلَدࣰاۗ سُبۡحَـٰنَهُۥۖ هُوَ ٱلۡغَنِیُّۖ لَهُۥ مَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَمَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ إِنۡ عِندَكُم مِّن سُلۡطَـٰنِۭ بِهَـٰذَاۤۚ أَتَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٦٨

They say: “God has begotten a son!” Glory to the Lord, He is rich [and like poor mankind is not in need of a child.] To God belongs everything which is in the heavens and on the earth. You have no proof to support such a nonsense. Why do you ascribe something to God while you do not have any knowledge of the subject matter

qālū ittakhadha l-lahu waladan sub'ḥānahu huwa l-ghaniyu lahu mā fī l-samāwāti wamā fī l-arḍi in ʿindakum min sul'ṭānin bihādhā ataqūlūna ʿalā l-lahi mā lā taʿlamūn

قُلۡ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ یَفۡتَرُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡكَذِبَ لَا یُفۡلِحُونَ ۝٦٩

Say: “Those who fabricate such lies and ascribe them to the Lord, will never succeed.”

qul inna alladhīna yaftarūna ʿalā l-lahi l-kadhiba lā yuf'liḥūn

مَتَـٰعࣱ فِی ٱلدُّنۡیَا ثُمَّ إِلَیۡنَا مَرۡجِعُهُمۡ ثُمَّ نُذِیقُهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابَ ٱلشَّدِیدَ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡفُرُونَ ۝٧٠

Such people will enjoy the world for a while and then will return to Me. I will then subject them to the most sever punishment for their choosing the disbelief

matāʿun fī l-dun'yā thumma ilaynā marjiʿuhum thumma nudhīquhumu l-ʿadhāba l-shadīda bimā kānū yakfurūn

8 Noah and Moses

۞ وَٱتۡلُ عَلَیۡهِمۡ نَبَأَ نُوحٍ إِذۡ قَالَ لِقَوۡمِهِۦ یَـٰقَوۡمِ إِن كَانَ كَبُرَ عَلَیۡكُم مَّقَامِی وَتَذۡكِیرِی بِءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ فَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوَكَّلۡتُ فَأَجۡمِعُوۤا۟ أَمۡرَكُمۡ وَشُرَكَاۤءَكُمۡ ثُمَّ لَا یَكُنۡ أَمۡرُكُمۡ عَلَیۡكُمۡ غُمَّةࣰ ثُمَّ ٱقۡضُوۤا۟ إِلَیَّ وَلَا تُنظِرُونِ ۝٧١

Recite to them the story of Prophet Noah (as a reminder and a warning.) He said to his people: “Brothers, if you find my position here among you (and my repeated references to the Lord’s revelations) too annoying for you, then I have a suggestion for you. Get together with your leaders, sentence me to whatever you decide. Tell me about your decision immediately [and do not worry about me] as I have put my trust in the Lord

wa-ut'lu ʿalayhim naba-a nūḥin idh qāla liqawmihi yāqawmi in kāna kabura ʿalaykum maqāmī watadhkīrī biāyāti l-lahi faʿalā l-lahi tawakkaltu fa-ajmiʿū amrakum washurakāakum thumma lā yakun amrukum ʿalaykum ghummatan thumma iq'ḍū ilayya walā tunẓirūn

فَإِن تَوَلَّیۡتُمۡ فَمَا سَأَلۡتُكُم مِّنۡ أَجۡرٍۖ إِنۡ أَجۡرِیَ إِلَّا عَلَى ٱللَّهِۖ وَأُمِرۡتُ أَنۡ أَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُسۡلِمِینَ ۝٧٢

If you have decided to disregard the Lord’s commandments, [it will not make me broke as] I have never expected a compensation for my services for you. My compensation is being paid by God and He has ordered me to be a Muslim (an Arabic word which means submitter to the commandments of the Lord.

fa-in tawallaytum famā sa-altukum min ajrin in ajriya illā ʿalā l-lahi wa-umir'tu an akūna mina l-mus'limīn

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَنَجَّیۡنَـٰهُ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥ فِی ٱلۡفُلۡكِ وَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُمۡ خَلَـٰۤىِٕفَ وَأَغۡرَقۡنَا ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَاۖ فَٱنظُرۡ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُنذَرِینَ ۝٧٣

Thus, they chose to disbelieve. I saved Noah and those who joined him in the arc and let them to inherit the earth. I drowned those who disregarded My Commandments. Note the consequences; they had already been warned

fakadhabūhu fanajjaynāhu waman maʿahu fī l-ful'ki wajaʿalnāhum khalāifa wa-aghraqnā alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā fa-unẓur kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu l-mundharīn

ثُمَّ بَعَثۡنَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦ رُسُلًا إِلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِمۡ فَجَاۤءُوهُم بِٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتِ فَمَا كَانُوا۟ لِیُؤۡمِنُوا۟ بِمَا كَذَّبُوا۟ بِهِۦ مِن قَبۡلُۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَطۡبَعُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِ ٱلۡمُعۡتَدِینَ ۝٧٤

After Noah, I sent many prophets to his people. They presented undeniable miracles to them, but how can one believe in what he has decided to deny? Thus I seal the hearts of those who pass the limits

thumma baʿathnā min baʿdihi rusulan ilā qawmihim fajāūhum bil-bayināti famā kānū liyu'minū bimā kadhabū bihi min qablu kadhālika naṭbaʿu ʿalā qulūbi l-muʿ'tadīn

ثُمَّ بَعَثۡنَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِم مُّوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَمَلَإِی۟هِۦ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا فَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ قَوۡمࣰا مُّجۡرِمِینَ ۝٧٥

Later I sent Moses and Aaron to Pharaoh and his administrators. They were bunch of guilty people who dealt arrogantly with my Revelations

thumma baʿathnā min baʿdihim mūsā wahārūna ilā fir'ʿawna wamala-ihi biāyātinā fa-is'takbarū wakānū qawman muj'rimīn

فَلَمَّا جَاۤءَهُمُ ٱلۡحَقُّ مِنۡ عِندِنَا قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَسِحۡرࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٧٦

When the truth was presented on My behalf to them, their only response was: “These are clearly the sorceries.”

falammā jāahumu l-ḥaqu min ʿindinā qālū inna hādhā lasiḥ'run mubīnu

قَالَ مُوسَىٰۤ أَتَقُولُونَ لِلۡحَقِّ لَمَّا جَاۤءَكُمۡۖ أَسِحۡرٌ هَـٰذَا وَلَا یُفۡلِحُ ٱلسَّـٰحِرُونَ ۝٧٧

Moses said: “Is this the way that you deal with the truth when it is presented to you? Is this magic? The magician cannot (boldly challenge a mighty king and) succeed?”

qāla mūsā ataqūlūna lil'ḥaqqi lammā jāakum asiḥ'run hādhā walā yuf'liḥu l-sāḥirūn

قَالُوۤا۟ أَجِئۡتَنَا لِتَلۡفِتَنَا عَمَّا وَجَدۡنَا عَلَیۡهِ ءَابَاۤءَنَا وَتَكُونَ لَكُمَا ٱلۡكِبۡرِیَاۤءُ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا نَحۡنُ لَكُمَا بِمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٧٨

They replied: “Have you come to change our style of life which we have inherited from our forefathers? You want to earn a superior position the same way that Joseph earned his way up.] We will not believe in what you say.”

qālū aji'tanā litalfitanā ʿammā wajadnā ʿalayhi ābāanā watakūna lakumā l-kib'riyāu fī l-arḍi wamā naḥnu lakumā bimu'minīn

وَقَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ ٱئۡتُونِی بِكُلِّ سَـٰحِرٍ عَلِیمࣲ ۝٧٩

The Pharaoh said: “Gather the most renown magicians.”

waqāla fir'ʿawnu i'tūnī bikulli sāḥirin ʿalīmi

فَلَمَّا جَاۤءَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ قَالَ لَهُم مُّوسَىٰۤ أَلۡقُوا۟ مَاۤ أَنتُم مُّلۡقُونَ ۝٨٠

When the magician gathered, Moses said: “Come with your best tricks.”

falammā jāa l-saḥaratu qāla lahum mūsā alqū mā antum mul'qūn

فَلَمَّاۤ أَلۡقَوۡا۟ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ مَا جِئۡتُم بِهِ ٱلسِّحۡرُۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَیُبۡطِلُهُۥۤ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یُصۡلِحُ عَمَلَ ٱلۡمُفۡسِدِینَ ۝٨١

When they were through with their acts, Moses said: “You put a good show of magic on the stage. Now God is going to reveal your tricks; He never supports the mischief makers’ plans.”

falammā alqaw qāla mūsā mā ji'tum bihi l-siḥ'ru inna l-laha sayub'ṭiluhu inna l-laha lā yuṣ'liḥu ʿamala l-muf'sidīn

وَیُحِقُّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡحَقَّ بِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦ وَلَوۡ كَرِهَ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ ۝٨٢

God establishes the truth with His Words [so that the reason prevail], despite the fact that the criminals resent it (the reasoning

wayuḥiqqu l-lahu l-ḥaqa bikalimātihi walaw kariha l-muj'rimūn

9 End of Opposition to Moses

فَمَاۤ ءَامَنَ لِمُوسَىٰۤ إِلَّا ذُرِّیَّةࣱ مِّن قَوۡمِهِۦ عَلَىٰ خَوۡفࣲ مِّن فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَمَلَإِی۟هِمۡ أَن یَفۡتِنَهُمۡۚ وَإِنَّ فِرۡعَوۡنَ لَعَالࣲ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَإِنَّهُۥ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِینَ ۝٨٣

What a shame that none believed in Moses except a few youths of his own people. They were afraid of Pharaoh and his administrators’ vindication. Surely, Pharaoh was an arrogant tyrant and the most extravagant

famā āmana limūsā illā dhurriyyatun min qawmihi ʿalā khawfin min fir'ʿawna wamala-ihim an yaftinahum wa-inna fir'ʿawna laʿālin fī l-arḍi wa-innahu lamina l-mus'rifīn

وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰ یَـٰقَوۡمِ إِن كُنتُمۡ ءَامَنتُم بِٱللَّهِ فَعَلَیۡهِ تَوَكَّلُوۤا۟ إِن كُنتُم مُّسۡلِمِینَ ۝٨٤

Moses admonished his people saying: “If you believe in God, put your trust in Him. This is the way the Muslims (meaning submitters in Arabic) behave.”

waqāla mūsā yāqawmi in kuntum āmantum bil-lahi faʿalayhi tawakkalū in kuntum mus'limīn

فَقَالُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوَكَّلۡنَا رَبَّنَا لَا تَجۡعَلۡنَا فِتۡنَةࣰ لِّلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٨٥

They replied: “ O’ Lord, we put our trust in you. Please [make our trial easy and] do not try us in hardship caused by the persecution of these unjust people.”

faqālū ʿalā l-lahi tawakkalnā rabbanā lā tajʿalnā fit'natan lil'qawmi l-ẓālimīn

وَنَجِّنَا بِرَحۡمَتِكَ مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٨٦

“Lord, please have mercy and save us from these disbelieving people (of Pharaoh.)”

wanajjinā biraḥmatika mina l-qawmi l-kāfirīn

وَأَوۡحَیۡنَاۤ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَأَخِیهِ أَن تَبَوَّءَا لِقَوۡمِكُمَا بِمِصۡرَ بُیُوتࣰا وَٱجۡعَلُوا۟ بُیُوتَكُمۡ قِبۡلَةࣰ وَأَقِیمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَۗ وَبَشِّرِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٨٧

I ordered Moses and his brother: “For the moment, devote a few houses of yours for the performance of religious ceremonies. Start worshipping the Lord on regular basis there and let the believers know that the good days are approaching.”

wa-awḥaynā ilā mūsā wa-akhīhi an tabawwaā liqawmikumā bimiṣ'ra buyūtan wa-ij'ʿalū buyūtakum qib'latan wa-aqīmū l-ṣalata wabashiri l-mu'minīn

وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰ رَبَّنَاۤ إِنَّكَ ءَاتَیۡتَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَمَلَأَهُۥ زِینَةࣰ وَأَمۡوَ ٰلࣰا فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا رَبَّنَا لِیُضِلُّوا۟ عَن سَبِیلِكَۖ رَبَّنَا ٱطۡمِسۡ عَلَىٰۤ أَمۡوَ ٰلِهِمۡ وَٱشۡدُدۡ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ فَلَا یُؤۡمِنُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ یَرَوُا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابَ ٱلۡأَلِیمَ ۝٨٨

Moses (probably in one of these congregational prayers) said: “ Our Lord, You have given Pharaoh and his officer’s wealth and luxuries in this world. O Lord, they use their power to push the people off your path. Lord, may you destroy their wealth and make their hearts the most insensitive to the truth so that they refuse to believe and, in consequence, be subjected to the severest punishment.”

waqāla mūsā rabbanā innaka ātayta fir'ʿawna wamala-ahu zīnatan wa-amwālan fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā rabbanā liyuḍillū ʿan sabīlika rabbanā iṭ'mis ʿalā amwālihim wa-ush'dud ʿalā qulūbihim falā yu'minū ḥattā yarawū l-ʿadhāba l-alīm

قَالَ قَدۡ أُجِیبَت دَّعۡوَتُكُمَا فَٱسۡتَقِیمَا وَلَا تَتَّبِعَاۤنِّ سَبِیلَ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٨٩

I replied: “Your request has been granted. Show patience and do not follow the paths paved by the ignorant people.”

qāla qad ujībat daʿwatukumā fa-is'taqīmā walā tattabiʿānni sabīla alladhīna lā yaʿlamūn

۞ وَجَـٰوَزۡنَا بِبَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَ فَأَتۡبَعَهُمۡ فِرۡعَوۡنُ وَجُنُودُهُۥ بَغۡیࣰا وَعَدۡوًاۖ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَاۤ أَدۡرَكَهُ ٱلۡغَرَقُ قَالَ ءَامَنتُ أَنَّهُۥ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِیۤ ءَامَنَتۡ بِهِۦ بَنُوۤا۟ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ وَأَنَا۠ مِنَ ٱلۡمُسۡلِمِینَ ۝٩٠

Eventually, I led the children of Israel across the [Red] sea. Then Pharaoh and his army followed them [through the passage opened in the sea] with the hostile intention. When Pharaoh was drowning [due to the closure of the passage by the permission of the Lord], he said: “Now I believe that there is no deity but the Lord in whom the children of Israel have believed. Thus, I declare myself to be a Muslim (submitted to the commandments of God.)”

wajāwaznā bibanī is'rāīla l-baḥra fa-atbaʿahum fir'ʿawnu wajunūduhu baghyan waʿadwan ḥattā idhā adrakahu l-gharaqu qāla āmantu annahu lā ilāha illā alladhī āmanat bihi banū is'rāīla wa-anā mina l-mus'limīn

ءَاۤلۡءَـٰنَ وَقَدۡ عَصَیۡتَ قَبۡلُ وَكُنتَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُفۡسِدِینَ ۝٩١

It was declared: “Now you believe! It is too late, [you had your choice and] you chose rebellion and corruption.”

āl'āna waqad ʿaṣayta qablu wakunta mina l-muf'sidīn

فَٱلۡیَوۡمَ نُنَجِّیكَ بِبَدَنِكَ لِتَكُونَ لِمَنۡ خَلۡفَكَ ءَایَةࣰۚ وَإِنَّ كَثِیرࣰا مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِ عَنۡ ءَایَـٰتِنَا لَغَـٰفِلُونَ ۝٩٢

“Today, [instead of your soul] your dead body will be saved (still in existence in the form of a mummy) to serve as an example for the succeeding generations. What a shame that most people totally ignore My Signs.”

fal-yawma nunajjīka bibadanika litakūna liman khalfaka āyatan wa-inna kathīran mina l-nāsi ʿan āyātinā laghāfilūn

10 Warning benefits the Heedful

وَلَقَدۡ بَوَّأۡنَا بَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ مُبَوَّأَ صِدۡقࣲ وَرَزَقۡنَـٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلطَّیِّبَـٰتِ فَمَا ٱخۡتَلَفُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ جَاۤءَهُمُ ٱلۡعِلۡمُۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ یَقۡضِی بَیۡنَهُمۡ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ فِیمَا كَانُوا۟ فِیهِ یَخۡتَلِفُونَ ۝٩٣

Then I let the children of Israel settle in a wonderful land and provided the life’s purest necessities for them. Unfortunately, they started to dispute among themselves, in spite of the knowledge that I had showered them with. For sure, your Lord will pass His Judgment upon them on the Day of Resurrection and will bring to their attention the real reasons for which they were disputing

walaqad bawwanā banī is'rāīla mubawwa-a ṣid'qin warazaqnāhum mina l-ṭayibāti famā ikh'talafū ḥattā jāahumu l-ʿil'mu inna rabbaka yaqḍī baynahum yawma l-qiyāmati fīmā kānū fīhi yakhtalifūn

فَإِن كُنتَ فِی شَكࣲّ مِّمَّاۤ أَنزَلۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡكَ فَسۡءَلِ ٱلَّذِینَ یَقۡرَءُونَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ مِن قَبۡلِكَۚ لَقَدۡ جَاۤءَكَ ٱلۡحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ فَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡمُمۡتَرِینَ ۝٩٤

If you doubt the Divine source of this Book, consult those who have read the previously revealed Scriptures. You will then realize that the Lord has revealed the Truth to you. Therefore, do not doubt a bit

fa-in kunta fī shakkin mimmā anzalnā ilayka fasali alladhīna yaqraūna l-kitāba min qablika laqad jāaka l-ḥaqu min rabbika falā takūnanna mina l-mum'tarīn

وَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ فَتَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرِینَ ۝٩٥

Do not join the losers who chose to disregard the Lord’s Commandments

walā takūnanna mina alladhīna kadhabū biāyāti l-lahi fatakūna mina l-khāsirīn

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ حَقَّتۡ عَلَیۡهِمۡ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٩٦

Those who (in account of their attitude) have already been condemned by God, will never believe

inna alladhīna ḥaqqat ʿalayhim kalimatu rabbika lā yu'minūn

وَلَوۡ جَاۤءَتۡهُمۡ كُلُّ ءَایَةٍ حَتَّىٰ یَرَوُا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابَ ٱلۡأَلِیمَ ۝٩٧

No matter what is presented to them, they will keep on denying. They will believe only when they face the Fire

walaw jāathum kullu āyatin ḥattā yarawū l-ʿadhāba l-alīm

فَلَوۡلَا كَانَتۡ قَرۡیَةٌ ءَامَنَتۡ فَنَفَعَهَاۤ إِیمَـٰنُهَاۤ إِلَّا قَوۡمَ یُونُسَ لَمَّاۤ ءَامَنُوا۟ كَشَفۡنَا عَنۡهُمۡ عَذَابَ ٱلۡخِزۡیِ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَمَتَّعۡنَـٰهُمۡ إِلَىٰ حِینࣲ ۝٩٨

There was only one community, among the evil doers, who chose to repent and take advantage of the Lord’s mercy; and that was the people of Jonah. When they chose to answer My call, I removed their sufferings and let them enjoy their worldly lives

falawlā kānat qaryatun āmanat fanafaʿahā īmānuhā illā qawma yūnusa lammā āmanū kashafnā ʿanhum ʿadhāba l-khiz'yi fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā wamattaʿnāhum ilā ḥīni

وَلَوۡ شَاۤءَ رَبُّكَ لَءَامَنَ مَن فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ كُلُّهُمۡ جَمِیعًاۚ أَفَأَنتَ تُكۡرِهُ ٱلنَّاسَ حَتَّىٰ یَكُونُوا۟ مُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٩٩

If it was the will of your Lord, all people of the earth would have believed (yet He wants to try them with their freedom of choice.) Do you still think you can make them all to believe

walaw shāa rabbuka laāmana man fī l-arḍi kulluhum jamīʿan afa-anta tuk'rihu l-nāsa ḥattā yakūnū mu'minīn

وَمَا كَانَ لِنَفۡسٍ أَن تُؤۡمِنَ إِلَّا بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِۚ وَیَجۡعَلُ ٱلرِّجۡسَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَعۡقِلُونَ ۝١٠٠

No soul will believe unless [he proves himself to the Lord and then] God showers him with the blessing of the belief. Those who do not use their faculty of thinking are nothing but the trash in the sight of the Lord

wamā kāna linafsin an tu'mina illā bi-idh'ni l-lahi wayajʿalu l-rij'sa ʿalā alladhīna lā yaʿqilūn

قُلِ ٱنظُرُوا۟ مَاذَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَمَا تُغۡنِی ٱلۡءَایَـٰتُ وَٱلنُّذُرُ عَن قَوۡمࣲ لَّا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١٠١

Say to them: “Observe (the main principle of scientific inquiry) what is in the heavens and the earth.” What a shame that all these proofs and warnings will not lead the people to believe

quli unẓurū mādhā fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wamā tugh'nī l-āyātu wal-nudhuru ʿan qawmin lā yu'minūn

فَهَلۡ یَنتَظِرُونَ إِلَّا مِثۡلَ أَیَّامِ ٱلَّذِینَ خَلَوۡا۟ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡۚ قُلۡ فَٱنتَظِرُوۤا۟ إِنِّی مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡمُنتَظِرِینَ ۝١٠٢

What are the disbelievers waiting for (to believe?) Are they waiting for the evil days experienced by the previous generations [of the evil-doers?] Say to them: “Wait, I am waiting too [ and let us see who will have the last laugh.]”

fahal yantaẓirūna illā mith'la ayyāmi alladhīna khalaw min qablihim qul fa-intaẓirū innī maʿakum mina l-muntaẓirīn

ثُمَّ نُنَجِّی رُسُلَنَا وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ حَقًّا عَلَیۡنَا نُنجِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١٠٣

When the day of punishment arrives, I will save My Messenger and those who have joined him. This is the way that I have chosen to operate. thus I will save the believers

thumma nunajjī rusulanā wa-alladhīna āmanū kadhālika ḥaqqan ʿalaynā nunji l-mu'minīn

11 Divine Judgment

قُلۡ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ إِن كُنتُمۡ فِی شَكࣲّ مِّن دِینِی فَلَاۤ أَعۡبُدُ ٱلَّذِینَ تَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَـٰكِنۡ أَعۡبُدُ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِی یَتَوَفَّىٰكُمۡۖ وَأُمِرۡتُ أَنۡ أَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١٠٤

Say: “O mankind, If you have any doubt about how faithful I am, know that I do not worship those whom you worship beside the Lord. I worship only that God who has the power to take your lives away. I have been ordered to be a believer.”

qul yāayyuhā l-nāsu in kuntum fī shakkin min dīnī falā aʿbudu alladhīna taʿbudūna min dūni l-lahi walākin aʿbudu l-laha alladhī yatawaffākum wa-umir'tu an akūna mina l-mu'minīn

وَأَنۡ أَقِمۡ وَجۡهَكَ لِلدِّینِ حَنِیفࣰا وَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ ۝١٠٥

I am commanded: “Dedicate yourself to this Faith like an upright man and do not join those who worship beside the Lord.”

wa-an aqim wajhaka lilddīni ḥanīfan walā takūnanna mina l-mush'rikīn

وَلَا تَدۡعُ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا یَنفَعُكَ وَلَا یَضُرُّكَۖ فَإِن فَعَلۡتَ فَإِنَّكَ إِذࣰا مِّنَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝١٠٦

“Invoke none beside God as they have no power and can neither harm you nor be of any benefit to you. If you do so, you have joined those who have been unjust to their own souls.”

walā tadʿu min dūni l-lahi mā lā yanfaʿuka walā yaḍurruka fa-in faʿalta fa-innaka idhan mina l-ẓālimīn

وَإِن یَمۡسَسۡكَ ٱللَّهُ بِضُرࣲّ فَلَا كَاشِفَ لَهُۥۤ إِلَّا هُوَۖ وَإِن یُرِدۡكَ بِخَیۡرࣲ فَلَا رَاۤدَّ لِفَضۡلِهِۦۚ یُصِیبُ بِهِۦ مَن یَشَاۤءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِهِۦۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِیمُ ۝١٠٧

If God decides that you have to go through a hardship, none except He Himself can remove it. Likewise, If He decides to shower you with a blessing, none can deprive you of that favor. He favors whoever among His servants that He wishes; He is the Most Forgiving, He is the Most Merciful

wa-in yamsaska l-lahu biḍurrin falā kāshifa lahu illā huwa wa-in yurid'ka bikhayrin falā rādda lifaḍlihi yuṣību bihi man yashāu min ʿibādihi wahuwa l-ghafūru l-raḥīm

قُلۡ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ قَدۡ جَاۤءَكُمُ ٱلۡحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكُمۡۖ فَمَنِ ٱهۡتَدَىٰ فَإِنَّمَا یَهۡتَدِی لِنَفۡسِهِۦۖ وَمَن ضَلَّ فَإِنَّمَا یَضِلُّ عَلَیۡهَاۖ وَمَاۤ أَنَا۠ عَلَیۡكُم بِوَكِیلࣲ ۝١٠٨

Say: “O mankind, the truth has been revealed to you by your Lord. Whoever takes advantage of this guidance, has been good to himself. Whoever chooses the disbelief, has simply been unjust to his own soul. I (Mohammad) am not appointed as a guardian over you.”

qul yāayyuhā l-nāsu qad jāakumu l-ḥaqu min rabbikum famani ih'tadā fa-innamā yahtadī linafsihi waman ḍalla fa-innamā yaḍillu ʿalayhā wamā anā ʿalaykum biwakīli

وَٱتَّبِعۡ مَا یُوحَىٰۤ إِلَیۡكَ وَٱصۡبِرۡ حَتَّىٰ یَحۡكُمَ ٱللَّهُۚ وَهُوَ خَیۡرُ ٱلۡحَـٰكِمِینَ ۝١٠٩

Follow what is revealed to you and be patient till God passes His Judgment and God is the best Judge

wa-ittabiʿ mā yūḥā ilayka wa-iṣ'bir ḥattā yaḥkuma l-lahu wahuwa khayru l-ḥākimīn
