1 Revelation testified by Nature

۞ أَتَىٰۤ أَمۡرُ ٱللَّهِ فَلَا تَسۡتَعۡجِلُوهُۚ سُبۡحَـٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝١

Allah's command is already issued! So, hasten it not. Glorified and highly exalted is He above what they worship besides Him

atā amru l-lahi falā tastaʿjilūhu sub'ḥānahu wataʿālā ʿammā yush'rikūn

یُنَزِّلُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةَ بِٱلرُّوحِ مِنۡ أَمۡرِهِۦ عَلَىٰ مَن یَشَاۤءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِهِۦۤ أَنۡ أَنذِرُوۤا۟ أَنَّهُۥ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّاۤ أَنَا۠ فَٱتَّقُونِ ۝٢

He sends down the angels, on whom He pleases of His subjects, with the inspiration of His command: "Give the warning that there is no god but Me, and so fear Me."

yunazzilu l-malāikata bil-rūḥi min amrihi ʿalā man yashāu min ʿibādihi an andhirū annahu lā ilāha illā anā fa-ittaqūn

خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ بِٱلۡحَقِّۚ تَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٣

He has created the heavens and the earth with the Truth and due Authority. He is far too high and exalted above what they worship besides Him

khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa bil-ḥaqi taʿālā ʿammā yush'rikūn

خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مِن نُّطۡفَةࣲ فَإِذَا هُوَ خَصِیمࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٤

He (Allah) created man from tiny fertilized ovum. And, lo, he has become an open adversary

khalaqa l-insāna min nuṭ'fatin fa-idhā huwa khaṣīmun mubīnu

وَٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمَ خَلَقَهَاۖ لَكُمۡ فِیهَا دِفۡءࣱ وَمَنَـٰفِعُ وَمِنۡهَا تَأۡكُلُونَ ۝٥

And He created the cattle. You get from them warm clothing and other benefits. And from them you get meat to eat

wal-anʿāma khalaqahā lakum fīhā dif'on wamanāfiʿu wamin'hā takulūn

وَلَكُمۡ فِیهَا جَمَالٌ حِینَ تُرِیحُونَ وَحِینَ تَسۡرَحُونَ ۝٦

And you feel good when you drive them back home, and when you send them out to pasture

walakum fīhā jamālun ḥīna turīḥūna waḥīna tasraḥūn

وَتَحۡمِلُ أَثۡقَالَكُمۡ إِلَىٰ بَلَدࣲ لَّمۡ تَكُونُوا۟ بَـٰلِغِیهِ إِلَّا بِشِقِّ ٱلۡأَنفُسِۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكُمۡ لَرَءُوفࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝٧

And they carry your heavy loads to lands you could not reach but with much difficulty. Your Lord is indeed Kind, Merciful

wataḥmilu athqālakum ilā baladin lam takūnū bālighīhi illā bishiqqi l-anfusi inna rabbakum laraūfun raḥīmu

وَٱلۡخَیۡلَ وَٱلۡبِغَالَ وَٱلۡحَمِیرَ لِتَرۡكَبُوهَا وَزِینَةࣰۚ وَیَخۡلُقُ مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٨

And horses, mules and asses for you to ride upon and as assets, and He creates what you do not know

wal-khayla wal-bighāla wal-ḥamīra litarkabūhā wazīnatan wayakhluqu mā lā taʿlamūn

وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ قَصۡدُ ٱلسَّبِیلِ وَمِنۡهَا جَاۤىِٕرࣱۚ وَلَوۡ شَاۤءَ لَهَدَىٰكُمۡ أَجۡمَعِینَ ۝٩

And upon Allah is the determination of the Path and the deviations from it. And if He had so willed He would have certainly guided you all

waʿalā l-lahi qaṣdu l-sabīli wamin'hā jāirun walaw shāa lahadākum ajmaʿīn

2 Nature upholds Unity

هُوَ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰۖ لَّكُم مِّنۡهُ شَرَابࣱ وَمِنۡهُ شَجَرࣱ فِیهِ تُسِیمُونَ ۝١٠

He it is Who sends down water from the sky. You drink thereof, and therefrom you get the shrubbery upon which you let your cattle graze

huwa alladhī anzala mina l-samāi māan lakum min'hu sharābun wamin'hu shajarun fīhi tusīmūn

یُنۢبِتُ لَكُم بِهِ ٱلزَّرۡعَ وَٱلزَّیۡتُونَ وَٱلنَّخِیلَ وَٱلۡأَعۡنَـٰبَ وَمِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَةࣰ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَتَفَكَّرُونَ ۝١١

He causes the green cultivated fields, the olives, the palm trees, the grapes and all kinds of fruits to grow for you thereby. There is indeed a sign in this for a people who think

yunbitu lakum bihi l-zarʿa wal-zaytūna wal-nakhīla wal-aʿnāba wamin kulli l-thamarāti inna fī dhālika laāyatan liqawmin yatafakkarūn

وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ ٱلَّیۡلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ وَٱلشَّمۡسَ وَٱلۡقَمَرَۖ وَٱلنُّجُومُ مُسَخَّرَ ٰتُۢ بِأَمۡرِهِۦۤۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَعۡقِلُونَ ۝١٢

And He has made the night, the day, the sun and the moon to work for you. And the stars are made subservient by His command. There are indeed signs in this for a people who ponder

wasakhara lakumu al-layla wal-nahāra wal-shamsa wal-qamara wal-nujūmu musakharātun bi-amrihi inna fī dhālika laāyātin liqawmin yaʿqilūn

وَمَا ذَرَأَ لَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مُخۡتَلِفًا أَلۡوَ ٰنُهُۥۤۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَةࣰ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَذَّكَّرُونَ ۝١٣

And what He has created on the earth are of different hues and colours. There is a sign in this for a people who reflect

wamā dhara-a lakum fī l-arḍi mukh'talifan alwānuhu inna fī dhālika laāyatan liqawmin yadhakkarūn

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی سَخَّرَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَ لِتَأۡكُلُوا۟ مِنۡهُ لَحۡمࣰا طَرِیࣰّا وَتَسۡتَخۡرِجُوا۟ مِنۡهُ حِلۡیَةࣰ تَلۡبَسُونَهَاۖ وَتَرَى ٱلۡفُلۡكَ مَوَاخِرَ فِیهِ وَلِتَبۡتَغُوا۟ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦ وَلَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ ۝١٤

And He it is Who has made the sea subservient so that you may eat fresh flesh from it and bring out of it jewels you wear. And you see the ships cut through it so that you might seek His bounty and be thankful

wahuwa alladhī sakhara l-baḥra litakulū min'hu laḥman ṭariyyan watastakhrijū min'hu ḥil'yatan talbasūnahā watarā l-ful'ka mawākhira fīhi walitabtaghū min faḍlihi walaʿallakum tashkurūn

وَأَلۡقَىٰ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ رَوَ ٰسِیَ أَن تَمِیدَ بِكُمۡ وَأَنۡهَـٰرࣰا وَسُبُلࣰا لَّعَلَّكُمۡ تَهۡتَدُونَ ۝١٥

And He has cast firm anchors [mountains] in the earth lest it should shake with you. And rivers and roads, that you may find your way

wa-alqā fī l-arḍi rawāsiya an tamīda bikum wa-anhāran wasubulan laʿallakum tahtadūn

وَعَلَـٰمَـٰتࣲۚ وَبِٱلنَّجۡمِ هُمۡ یَهۡتَدُونَ ۝١٦

And they find their way by landmarks and the stars

waʿalāmātin wabil-najmi hum yahtadūn

أَفَمَن یَخۡلُقُ كَمَن لَّا یَخۡلُقُۚ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝١٧

Is He then Who creates like the one who does not? Do you not then reflect

afaman yakhluqu kaman lā yakhluqu afalā tadhakkarūn

وَإِن تَعُدُّوا۟ نِعۡمَةَ ٱللَّهِ لَا تُحۡصُوهَاۤۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَغَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝١٨

And if you would count Allah's favours, you won't be able to do it. Allah is certainly indeed Forgiving, Merciful

wa-in taʿuddū niʿ'mata l-lahi lā tuḥ'ṣūhā inna l-laha laghafūrun raḥīmu

وَٱللَّهُ یَعۡلَمُ مَا تُسِرُّونَ وَمَا تُعۡلِنُونَ ۝١٩

And Allah knows what you conceal and what you do openly

wal-lahu yaʿlamu mā tusirrūna wamā tuʿ'linūn

وَٱلَّذِینَ یَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ لَا یَخۡلُقُونَ شَیۡءࣰا وَهُمۡ یُخۡلَقُونَ ۝٢٠

And those, whom they pray to besides Allah, have not created anything; they are themselves created

wa-alladhīna yadʿūna min dūni l-lahi lā yakhluqūna shayan wahum yukh'laqūn

أَمۡوَ ٰتٌ غَیۡرُ أَحۡیَاۤءࣲۖ وَمَا یَشۡعُرُونَ أَیَّانَ یُبۡعَثُونَ ۝٢١

They are dead — not living — and they know not when they shall be raised

amwātun ghayru aḥyāin wamā yashʿurūna ayyāna yub'ʿathūn

3 Denial due to Ignorance

إِلَـٰهُكُمۡ إِلَـٰهࣱ وَ ٰحِدࣱۚ فَٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ قُلُوبُهُم مُّنكِرَةࣱ وَهُم مُّسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ ۝٢٢

The object of your worship is Allah, the One and Only! And those, who do not believe in the Hereafter, are defiant in their hearts, and arrogant

ilāhukum ilāhun wāḥidun fa-alladhīna lā yu'minūna bil-ākhirati qulūbuhum munkiratun wahum mus'takbirūn

لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ یَعۡلَمُ مَا یُسِرُّونَ وَمَا یُعۡلِنُونَۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا یُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُسۡتَكۡبِرِینَ ۝٢٣

Allah does indeed, without doubt, know what they hide and what they declare. He does not, indeed, love those who are arrogant

lā jarama anna l-laha yaʿlamu mā yusirrūna wamā yuʿ'linūna innahu lā yuḥibbu l-mus'takbirīn

وَإِذَا قِیلَ لَهُم مَّاذَاۤ أَنزَلَ رَبُّكُمۡ قَالُوۤا۟ أَسَـٰطِیرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٢٤

And when they are asked, "What is it that your Lord has sent down?" They say, "Stories of the ancients."

wa-idhā qīla lahum mādhā anzala rabbukum qālū asāṭīru l-awalīn

لِیَحۡمِلُوۤا۟ أَوۡزَارَهُمۡ كَامِلَةࣰ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ وَمِنۡ أَوۡزَارِ ٱلَّذِینَ یُضِلُّونَهُم بِغَیۡرِ عِلۡمٍۗ أَلَا سَاۤءَ مَا یَزِرُونَ ۝٢٥

By saying so they are going to bear not only their own entire burdens on the day of Resurrection, but also of the burdens of those whom they led astray with misinformation. Is it not too bad what they bear

liyaḥmilū awzārahum kāmilatan yawma l-qiyāmati wamin awzāri alladhīna yuḍillūnahum bighayri ʿil'min alā sāa mā yazirūn

4 Wicked meet Disgrace

قَدۡ مَكَرَ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ فَأَتَى ٱللَّهُ بُنۡیَـٰنَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡقَوَاعِدِ فَخَرَّ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلسَّقۡفُ مِن فَوۡقِهِمۡ وَأَتَىٰهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ مِنۡ حَیۡثُ لَا یَشۡعُرُونَ ۝٢٦

Those before them plotted. But Allah struck their edifice at its foundations, so that the roof fell down on them from above them. And the punishment came to them from whence they knew not

qad makara alladhīna min qablihim fa-atā l-lahu bun'yānahum mina l-qawāʿidi fakharra ʿalayhimu l-saqfu min fawqihim wa-atāhumu l-ʿadhābu min ḥaythu lā yashʿurūn

ثُمَّ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ یُخۡزِیهِمۡ وَیَقُولُ أَیۡنَ شُرَكَاۤءِیَ ٱلَّذِینَ كُنتُمۡ تُشَـٰۤقُّونَ فِیهِمۡۚ قَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلۡعِلۡمَ إِنَّ ٱلۡخِزۡیَ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ وَٱلسُّوۤءَ عَلَى ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٢٧

Then on the Resurrection Day He will disgrace them and ask, "Where are they whom you worshipped besides Me, and for whose sake you caused discord?" Those who are endowed with knowledge will say, "Indeed, the disgrace and the evil, this day, shall be upon those who had suppressed the Truth."

thumma yawma l-qiyāmati yukh'zīhim wayaqūlu ayna shurakāiya alladhīna kuntum tushāqqūna fīhim qāla alladhīna ūtū l-ʿil'ma inna l-khiz'ya l-yawma wal-sūa ʿalā l-kāfirīn

ٱلَّذِینَ تَتَوَفَّىٰهُمُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ ظَالِمِیۤ أَنفُسِهِمۡۖ فَأَلۡقَوُا۟ ٱلسَّلَمَ مَا كُنَّا نَعۡمَلُ مِن سُوۤءِۭۚ بَلَىٰۤۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِیمُۢ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٢٨

Those that the angels caused to die while they indulged in deeds, which were ultimately injurious to their own selves. Then they would submit, "We didn't do anything bad." Aye! Allah does indeed know what you did

alladhīna tatawaffāhumu l-malāikatu ẓālimī anfusihim fa-alqawū l-salama mā kunnā naʿmalu min sūin balā inna l-laha ʿalīmun bimā kuntum taʿmalūn

فَٱدۡخُلُوۤا۟ أَبۡوَ ٰبَ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَاۖ فَلَبِئۡسَ مَثۡوَى ٱلۡمُتَكَبِّرِینَ ۝٢٩

Enter then the gates of Hell, to be there forever! And the dwelling place of the arrogant people is certainly bad

fa-ud'khulū abwāba jahannama khālidīna fīhā falabi'sa mathwā l-mutakabirīn

۞ وَقِیلَ لِلَّذِینَ ٱتَّقَوۡا۟ مَاذَاۤ أَنزَلَ رَبُّكُمۡۚ قَالُوا۟ خَیۡرࣰاۗ لِّلَّذِینَ أَحۡسَنُوا۟ فِی هَـٰذِهِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا حَسَنَةࣱۚ وَلَدَارُ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ خَیۡرࣱۚ وَلَنِعۡمَ دَارُ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ ۝٣٠

And those who fear Allah are asked, "What is it that your Lord has sent down?" They say, "That which is good." There is goodness for those who do good deeds in this world. And certainly the abode of the Hereafter is better. And excellent certainly is the abode of those who fear Allah

waqīla lilladhīna ittaqaw mādhā anzala rabbukum qālū khayran lilladhīna aḥsanū fī hādhihi l-dun'yā ḥasanatun waladāru l-ākhirati khayrun walaniʿ'ma dāru l-mutaqīn

جَنَّـٰتُ عَدۡنࣲ یَدۡخُلُونَهَا تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُۖ لَهُمۡ فِیهَا مَا یَشَاۤءُونَۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ یَجۡزِی ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ ۝٣١

They shall enter gardens of perpetuity, having rivers flowing beneath them. They shall have, in them, what they please. Thus does Allah reward those who fear Him

jannātu ʿadnin yadkhulūnahā tajrī min taḥtihā l-anhāru lahum fīhā mā yashāūna kadhālika yajzī l-lahu l-mutaqīn

ٱلَّذِینَ تَتَوَفَّىٰهُمُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ طَیِّبِینَ یَقُولُونَ سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَیۡكُمُ ٱدۡخُلُوا۟ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٣٢

Those that the angels caused to die while they did good deeds, the angels saying to them, "Peace upon you! Enter the garden as a reward for what you did."

alladhīna tatawaffāhumu l-malāikatu ṭayyibīna yaqūlūna salāmun ʿalaykumu ud'khulū l-janata bimā kuntum taʿmalūn

هَلۡ یَنظُرُونَ إِلَّاۤ أَن تَأۡتِیَهُمُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ أَوۡ یَأۡتِیَ أَمۡرُ رَبِّكَۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ فَعَلَ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡۚ وَمَا ظَلَمَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ یَظۡلِمُونَ ۝٣٣

They do not wait for anything but that the angels should come to them or that the Commandment of your Lord should come to pass. This is what those before them did. And Allah oppressed them not, but they oppressed themselves

hal yanẓurūna illā an tatiyahumu l-malāikatu aw yatiya amru rabbika kadhālika faʿala alladhīna min qablihim wamā ẓalamahumu l-lahu walākin kānū anfusahum yaẓlimūn

فَأَصَابَهُمۡ سَیِّءَاتُ مَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ یَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ۝٣٤

So the bad things they did shall afflict them and the things they mocked at shall besiege them

fa-aṣābahum sayyiātu mā ʿamilū waḥāqa bihim mā kānū bihi yastahziūn

5 Prophets raised to explain

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ أَشۡرَكُوا۟ لَوۡ شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ مَا عَبَدۡنَا مِن دُونِهِۦ مِن شَیۡءࣲ نَّحۡنُ وَلَاۤ ءَابَاۤؤُنَا وَلَا حَرَّمۡنَا مِن دُونِهِۦ مِن شَیۡءࣲۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ فَعَلَ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡۚ فَهَلۡ عَلَى ٱلرُّسُلِ إِلَّا ٱلۡبَلَـٰغُ ٱلۡمُبِینُ ۝٣٥

And they who worship others besides Allah say, "Had Allah so willed, we would not have worshipped anything besides Him. Nor would our fathers do it. And we would not have prohibited anything without His Command." This is what those before them did. Are the Messengers then responsible for anything but the plain and clear conveyance of the divine Message?h

waqāla alladhīna ashrakū law shāa l-lahu mā ʿabadnā min dūnihi min shayin naḥnu walā ābāunā walā ḥarramnā min dūnihi min shayin kadhālika faʿala alladhīna min qablihim fahal ʿalā l-rusuli illā l-balāghu l-mubīn

وَلَقَدۡ بَعَثۡنَا فِی كُلِّ أُمَّةࣲ رَّسُولًا أَنِ ٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱجۡتَنِبُوا۟ ٱلطَّـٰغُوتَۖ فَمِنۡهُم مَّنۡ هَدَى ٱللَّهُ وَمِنۡهُم مَّنۡ حَقَّتۡ عَلَیۡهِ ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةُۚ فَسِیرُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَٱنظُرُوا۟ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبِینَ ۝٣٦

And certainly We raised in every community a Messenger saying, "Worship Allah and shun whatever is worshipped other than Allah." So there were some, among them, whom Allah guided and there were others who were destined to be misguided. Travel in the land then, and see what the end of those who rejected the divine Message was

walaqad baʿathnā fī kulli ummatin rasūlan ani uʿ'budū l-laha wa-ij'tanibū l-ṭāghūta famin'hum man hadā l-lahu wamin'hum man ḥaqqat ʿalayhi l-ḍalālatu fasīrū fī l-arḍi fa-unẓurū kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu l-mukadhibīn

إِن تَحۡرِصۡ عَلَىٰ هُدَىٰهُمۡ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یَهۡدِی مَن یُضِلُّۖ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّـٰصِرِینَ ۝٣٧

Even if you are anxious for their guidance, Allah does not indeed guide him who willfully goes astray. And there shall be none to help them

in taḥriṣ ʿalā hudāhum fa-inna l-laha lā yahdī man yuḍillu wamā lahum min nāṣirīn

وَأَقۡسَمُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ جَهۡدَ أَیۡمَـٰنِهِمۡ لَا یَبۡعَثُ ٱللَّهُ مَن یَمُوتُۚ بَلَىٰ وَعۡدًا عَلَیۡهِ حَقࣰّا وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣٨

And they swear by Allah most solemnly that Allah will not raise anyone who dies. Yea! It is a promise binding on Him, but most people know it not

wa-aqsamū bil-lahi jahda aymānihim lā yabʿathu l-lahu man yamūtu balā waʿdan ʿalayhi ḥaqqan walākinna akthara l-nāsi lā yaʿlamūn

لِیُبَیِّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلَّذِی یَخۡتَلِفُونَ فِیهِ وَلِیَعۡلَمَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوۤا۟ أَنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ كَـٰذِبِینَ ۝٣٩

Allah will raise the dead so that He might make matters, in which they differ, clear to them, and that those who suppress the Truth might know that they were liars

liyubayyina lahumu alladhī yakhtalifūna fīhi waliyaʿlama alladhīna kafarū annahum kānū kādhibīn

إِنَّمَا قَوۡلُنَا لِشَیۡءٍ إِذَاۤ أَرَدۡنَـٰهُ أَن نَّقُولَ لَهُۥ كُن فَیَكُونُ ۝٤٠

When We intend a thing, We just say "Be" and it is

innamā qawlunā lishayin idhā aradnāhu an naqūla lahu kun fayakūn

6 Opponents' Doom

وَٱلَّذِینَ هَاجَرُوا۟ فِی ٱللَّهِ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا ظُلِمُوا۟ لَنُبَوِّئَنَّهُمۡ فِی ٱلدُّنۡیَا حَسَنَةࣰۖ وَلَأَجۡرُ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ أَكۡبَرُۚ لَوۡ كَانُوا۟ یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٤١

And those who migrate for Allah's sake after they are oppressed, We will certainly resettle them in a good position in this world. And the reward of the Hereafter is certainly much greater, if they but know

wa-alladhīna hājarū fī l-lahi min baʿdi mā ẓulimū lanubawwi-annahum fī l-dun'yā ḥasanatan wala-ajru l-ākhirati akbaru law kānū yaʿlamūn

ٱلَّذِینَ صَبَرُوا۟ وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡ یَتَوَكَّلُونَ ۝٤٢

Those that are patient and have trust in their Lord

alladhīna ṣabarū waʿalā rabbihim yatawakkalūn

وَمَاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِكَ إِلَّا رِجَالࣰا نُّوحِیۤ إِلَیۡهِمۡۖ فَسۡءَلُوۤا۟ أَهۡلَ ٱلذِّكۡرِ إِن كُنتُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٤٣

And We did not send before you any but men to whom We revealed our Verses/signs. Ask the people of the divine Reminder/Book if you do not know.

wamā arsalnā min qablika illā rijālan nūḥī ilayhim fasalū ahla l-dhik'ri in kuntum lā taʿlamūn

بِٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتِ وَٱلزُّبُرِۗ وَأَنزَلۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡكَ ٱلذِّكۡرَ لِتُبَیِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ مَا نُزِّلَ إِلَیۡهِمۡ وَلَعَلَّهُمۡ یَتَفَكَّرُونَ ۝٤٤

We had sent only men, to the earlier people, with clear signs/evidences and scriptures. And We have sent down to you the Reminder (the Qur'aan) that you may make clear to mankind what has been sent down for them, and that they may think about it

bil-bayināti wal-zuburi wa-anzalnā ilayka l-dhik'ra litubayyina lilnnāsi mā nuzzila ilayhim walaʿallahum yatafakkarūn

أَفَأَمِنَ ٱلَّذِینَ مَكَرُوا۟ ٱلسَّیِّءَاتِ أَن یَخۡسِفَ ٱللَّهُ بِهِمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ أَوۡ یَأۡتِیَهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ مِنۡ حَیۡثُ لَا یَشۡعُرُونَ ۝٤٥

Do they then who plan evil deeds feel confident that Allah will not cause the earth to swallow them, or that punishment may not overtake them from whence they know not

afa-amina alladhīna makarū l-sayiāti an yakhsifa l-lahu bihimu l-arḍa aw yatiyahumu l-ʿadhābu min ḥaythu lā yashʿurūn

أَوۡ یَأۡخُذَهُمۡ فِی تَقَلُّبِهِمۡ فَمَا هُم بِمُعۡجِزِینَ ۝٤٦

Or that He may not seize them while they are on the move, and so they cannot escape

aw yakhudhahum fī taqallubihim famā hum bimuʿ'jizīn

أَوۡ یَأۡخُذَهُمۡ عَلَىٰ تَخَوُّفࣲ فَإِنَّ رَبَّكُمۡ لَرَءُوفࣱ رَّحِیمٌ ۝٤٧

Or that He may not seize them with fear and/or slow destruction? And your Lord is indeed Kind, Merciful

aw yakhudhahum ʿalā takhawwufin fa-inna rabbakum laraūfun raḥīmu

أَوَ لَمۡ یَرَوۡا۟ إِلَىٰ مَا خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ مِن شَیۡءࣲ یَتَفَیَّؤُا۟ ظِلَـٰلُهُۥ عَنِ ٱلۡیَمِینِ وَٱلشَّمَاۤىِٕلِ سُجَّدࣰا لِّلَّهِ وَهُمۡ دَ ٰخِرُونَ ۝٤٨

Do they not see that anything, which Allah has created, casts its shadow right and left in humble prostration to Allah

awalam yaraw ilā mā khalaqa l-lahu min shayin yatafayya-u ẓilāluhu ʿani l-yamīni wal-shamāili sujjadan lillahi wahum dākhirūn

وَ̅لِ̅لَّ̅هِ̅ ̅یَ̅سۡ̅جُ̅دُ̅ مَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَمَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مِن دَاۤبَّةࣲ وَٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ وَهُمۡ لَا یَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ ۝٤٩

And to Allah does prostrate any creature that is in the heavens and that is in the earth, and the angels too do protrate. And they do not show pride

walillahi yasjudu mā fī l-samāwāti wamā fī l-arḍi min dābbatin wal-malāikatu wahum lā yastakbirūn

یَخَافُونَ رَبَّهُم مِّن فَوۡقِهِمۡ وَیَفۡعَلُونَ مَا یُؤۡمَرُونَ ۝٥٠ ۩

They fear their Lord over them. And they do what they are commanded

yakhāfūna rabbahum min fawqihim wayafʿalūna mā yu'marūn

7 Human Nature revolts against Polytheism

۞ وَقَالَ ٱللَّهُ لَا تَتَّخِذُوۤا۟ إِلَـٰهَیۡنِ ٱثۡنَیۡنِۖ إِنَّمَا هُوَ إِلَـٰهࣱ وَ ٰحِدࣱ فَإِیَّـٰیَ فَٱرۡهَبُونِ ۝٥١

And Allah tells human beings not to take two gods. He is Allah, the One and Only. "So Me alone should you hold in awe."

waqāla l-lahu lā tattakhidhū ilāhayni ith'nayni innamā huwa ilāhun wāḥidun fa-iyyāya fa-ir'habūn

وَلَهُۥ مَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَهُ ٱلدِّینُ وَاصِبًاۚ أَفَغَیۡرَ ٱللَّهِ تَتَّقُونَ ۝٥٢

And whatever is in the heavens and the earth is His, and the way of life ought to be for Him ever. Will you then fear any being other than Allah

walahu mā fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi walahu l-dīnu wāṣiban afaghayra l-lahi tattaqūn

وَمَا بِكُم مِّن نِّعۡمَةࣲ فَمِنَ ٱللَّهِۖ ثُمَّ إِذَا مَسَّكُمُ ٱلضُّرُّ فَإِلَیۡهِ تَجۡءَرُونَ ۝٥٣

And the good things, you have, are all from Allah. Then when anything bad afflicts you, to Him do you complain loudly

wamā bikum min niʿ'matin famina l-lahi thumma idhā massakumu l-ḍuru fa-ilayhi tajarūn

ثُمَّ إِذَا كَشَفَ ٱلضُّرَّ عَنكُمۡ إِذَا فَرِیقࣱ مِّنكُم بِرَبِّهِمۡ یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٥٤

And yet when He removes the hardship from you, lo, some of you worship others besides their Lord

thumma idhā kashafa l-ḍura ʿankum idhā farīqun minkum birabbihim yush'rikūn

لِیَكۡفُرُوا۟ بِمَاۤ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُمۡۚ فَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ فَسَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٥٥

And so they become ungrateful for what We have given them. Enjoy then for now! You shall soon come to know your real destiny

liyakfurū bimā ātaynāhum fatamattaʿū fasawfa taʿlamūn

وَیَجۡعَلُونَ لِمَا لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ نَصِیبࣰا مِّمَّا رَزَقۡنَـٰهُمۡۗ تَٱللَّهِ لَتُسۡءَلُنَّ عَمَّا كُنتُمۡ تَفۡتَرُونَ ۝٥٦

And they set apart a portion of what We have given them for those of whom they know nothing. By Allah, you shall most certainly be questioned about that which you have been concocting

wayajʿalūna limā lā yaʿlamūna naṣīban mimmā razaqnāhum tal-lahi latus'alunna ʿammā kuntum taftarūn

وَیَجۡعَلُونَ لِلَّهِ ٱلۡبَنَـٰتِ سُبۡحَـٰنَهُۥ وَلَهُم مَّا یَشۡتَهُونَ ۝٥٧

And they arbitrarily attribute daughters (angels) to Allah. HE is too glorious to have any such creaturely attribute. And, for themselves, they would have what they desire (sons)

wayajʿalūna lillahi l-banāti sub'ḥānahu walahum mā yashtahūn

وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُم بِٱلۡأُنثَىٰ ظَلَّ وَجۡهُهُۥ مُسۡوَدࣰّا وَهُوَ كَظِیمࣱ ۝٥٨

And when news of a daughter being born is given to any of them, his face becomes darkened with suppressed anger

wa-idhā bushira aḥaduhum bil-unthā ẓalla wajhuhu mus'waddan wahuwa kaẓīmu

یَتَوَ ٰرَىٰ مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ مِن سُوۤءِ مَا بُشِّرَ بِهِۦۤۚ أَیُمۡسِكُهُۥ عَلَىٰ هُونٍ أَمۡ یَدُسُّهُۥ فِی ٱلتُّرَابِۗ أَلَا سَاۤءَ مَا یَحۡكُمُونَ ۝٥٩

He hides himself from the people because of the stigma of the news given to him. Shall he keep it despite the disgrace, or bury it in the dust? Verily, their judgment is vicious.

yatawārā mina l-qawmi min sūi mā bushira bihi ayum'sikuhu ʿalā hūnin am yadussuhu fī l-turābi alā sāa mā yaḥkumūn

لِلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ مَثَلُ ٱلسَّوۡءِۖ وَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡمَثَلُ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِیزُ ٱلۡحَكِیمُ ۝٦٠

An example of evil applies to those who believe not in the Hereafter. And the best/loftiest example applies to Allah. And He is the Omnipotent, the Wise

lilladhīna lā yu'minūna bil-ākhirati mathalu l-sawi walillahi l-mathalu l-aʿlā wahuwa l-ʿazīzu l-ḥakīm

8 Iniquity of Deniers

وَلَوۡ یُؤَاخِذُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلنَّاسَ بِظُلۡمِهِم مَّا تَرَكَ عَلَیۡهَا مِن دَاۤبَّةࣲ وَلَـٰكِن یُؤَخِّرُهُمۡ إِلَىٰۤ أَجَلࣲ مُّسَمࣰّىۖ فَإِذَا جَاۤءَ أَجَلُهُمۡ لَا یَسۡتَءۡخِرُونَ سَاعَةࣰ وَلَا یَسۡتَقۡدِمُونَ ۝٦١

And had Allah seized mankind for their unjust acts, He would not have left, on the earth, even a single creature. But He gives them a definite time limit. And when their time comes, they shall not be able to postpone it for a moment nor prepone it

walaw yuākhidhu l-lahu l-nāsa biẓul'mihim mā taraka ʿalayhā min dābbatin walākin yu-akhiruhum ilā ajalin musamman fa-idhā jāa ajaluhum lā yastakhirūna sāʿatan walā yastaqdimūn

وَیَجۡعَلُونَ لِلَّهِ مَا یَكۡرَهُونَۚ وَتَصِفُ أَلۡسِنَتُهُمُ ٱلۡكَذِبَ أَنَّ لَهُمُ ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰۚ لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّ لَهُمُ ٱلنَّارَ وَأَنَّهُم مُّفۡرَطُونَ ۝٦٢

And they assign to Allah what they hate for themselves. And their tongues philosophically cover up the lie to say that for them there shall be nothing but the good. There is no doubt that for them there shall be the Fire and that they shall be hastened thereto

wayajʿalūna lillahi mā yakrahūna wataṣifu alsinatuhumu l-kadhiba anna lahumu l-ḥus'nā lā jarama anna lahumu l-nāra wa-annahum muf'raṭūn

تَٱللَّهِ لَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَاۤ إِلَىٰۤ أُمَمࣲ مِّن قَبۡلِكَ فَزَیَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُ أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡ فَهُوَ وَلِیُّهُمُ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝٦٣

By Allah, We did certainly send Messengers to peoples that existed before you. Then the Satan made their deeds seem good to them. And he became their walihof the day (period). And they shall have a painful punishment

tal-lahi laqad arsalnā ilā umamin min qablika fazayyana lahumu l-shayṭānu aʿmālahum fahuwa waliyyuhumu l-yawma walahum ʿadhābun alīmu

وَمَاۤ أَنزَلۡنَا عَلَیۡكَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ إِلَّا لِتُبَیِّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلَّذِی ٱخۡتَلَفُوا۟ فِیهِ وَهُدࣰى وَرَحۡمَةࣰ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٦٤

And We have not sent down the Book to you but to make clear to them what they differ in, and as Guidance and Mercy for people who believe

wamā anzalnā ʿalayka l-kitāba illā litubayyina lahumu alladhī ikh'talafū fīhi wahudan waraḥmatan liqawmin yu'minūn

وَٱللَّهُ أَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰ فَأَحۡیَا بِهِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ بَعۡدَ مَوۡتِهَاۤۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَةࣰ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَسۡمَعُونَ ۝٦٥

And Allah it is Who sends down water from the sky and therewith gives life to the earth after its death. There is indeed a sign in this for people who listen

wal-lahu anzala mina l-samāi māan fa-aḥyā bihi l-arḍa baʿda mawtihā inna fī dhālika laāyatan liqawmin yasmaʿūn

9 Parables showing Truth of Revelation

وَإِنَّ لَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمِ لَعِبۡرَةࣰۖ نُّسۡقِیكُم مِّمَّا فِی بُطُونِهِۦ مِنۢ بَیۡنِ فَرۡثࣲ وَدَمࣲ لَّبَنًا خَالِصࣰا سَاۤىِٕغࣰا لِّلشَّـٰرِبِینَ ۝٦٦

And, indeed, in the cattle there is a lesson for you. We give you pure, potable drink of milk out of what they consume in their bellies, and drawn from excreta and blood.

wa-inna lakum fī l-anʿāmi laʿib'ratan nus'qīkum mimmā fī buṭūnihi min bayni farthin wadamin labanan khāliṣan sāighan lilshāribīn

وَمِن ثَمَرَ ٰتِ ٱلنَّخِیلِ وَٱلۡأَعۡنَـٰبِ تَتَّخِذُونَ مِنۡهُ سَكَرࣰا وَرِزۡقًا حَسَنًاۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَةࣰ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٦٧

And from the fruits of the palm-tree and the vine, you get intoxication as well as good food. There is indeed a sign in this for a people who ponder

wamin thamarāti l-nakhīli wal-aʿnābi tattakhidhūna min'hu sakaran wariz'qan ḥasanan inna fī dhālika laāyatan liqawmin yaʿqilūn

وَأَوۡحَىٰ رَبُّكَ إِلَى ٱلنَّحۡلِ أَنِ ٱتَّخِذِی مِنَ ٱلۡجِبَالِ بُیُوتࣰا وَمِنَ ٱلشَّجَرِ وَمِمَّا یَعۡرِشُونَ ۝٦٨

And your Lord inspired the bee to "have hives in the mountains, in the trees and in the buildings."

wa-awḥā rabbuka ilā l-naḥli ani ittakhidhī mina l-jibāli buyūtan wamina l-shajari wamimmā yaʿrishūn

ثُمَّ كُلِی مِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِ فَٱسۡلُكِی سُبُلَ رَبِّكِ ذُلُلࣰاۚ یَخۡرُجُ مِنۢ بُطُونِهَا شَرَابࣱ مُّخۡتَلِفٌ أَلۡوَ ٰنُهُۥ فِیهِ شِفَاۤءࣱ لِّلنَّاسِۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَةࣰ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَتَفَكَّرُونَ ۝٦٩

"And then eat of all the fruits and tread the paths of your Lord submissively." A beverage of various colours comes forth from within it, wherein there is curative value for mankind. There is indeed a sign in this for people who reflect

thumma kulī min kulli l-thamarāti fa-us'lukī subula rabbiki dhululan yakhruju min buṭūnihā sharābun mukh'talifun alwānuhu fīhi shifāon lilnnāsi inna fī dhālika laāyatan liqawmin yatafakkarūn

وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمۡ ثُمَّ یَتَوَفَّىٰكُمۡۚ وَمِنكُم مَّن یُرَدُّ إِلَىٰۤ أَرۡذَلِ ٱلۡعُمُرِ لِكَیۡ لَا یَعۡلَمَ بَعۡدَ عِلۡمࣲ شَیۡءًاۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِیمࣱ قَدِیرࣱ ۝٧٠

And Allah it is Who has created you. It is He then Who causes you to die. And among you there may be someone who, after having acquired knowledge, is reduced to such a decrepit state of life that he knows nothing. Allah is indeed Knowledgeable, Powerful

wal-lahu khalaqakum thumma yatawaffākum waminkum man yuraddu ilā ardhali l-ʿumuri likay lā yaʿlama baʿda ʿil'min shayan inna l-laha ʿalīmun qadīru

10 Recipient of Revelation

وَٱللَّهُ فَضَّلَ بَعۡضَكُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲ فِی ٱلرِّزۡقِۚ فَمَا ٱلَّذِینَ فُضِّلُوا۟ بِرَاۤدِّی رِزۡقِهِمۡ عَلَىٰ مَا مَلَكَتۡ أَیۡمَـٰنُهُمۡ فَهُمۡ فِیهِ سَوَاۤءٌۚ أَفَبِنِعۡمَةِ ٱللَّهِ یَجۡحَدُونَ ۝٧١

And it is Allah Who has given some of you more/better provisions than to others. Would then those who are thus favoured give away their provisions to their slaves so that they become equal therein? Do they then deny this privilege that Allah has given them

wal-lahu faḍḍala baʿḍakum ʿalā baʿḍin fī l-riz'qi famā alladhīna fuḍḍilū birāddī riz'qihim ʿalā mā malakat aymānuhum fahum fīhi sawāon afabiniʿ'mati l-lahi yajḥadūn

وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنۡ أَنفُسِكُمۡ أَزۡوَ ٰجࣰا وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنۡ أَزۡوَ ٰجِكُم بَنِینَ وَحَفَدَةࣰ وَرَزَقَكُم مِّنَ ٱلطَّیِّبَـٰتِۚ أَفَبِٱلۡبَـٰطِلِ یُؤۡمِنُونَ وَبِنِعۡمَتِ ٱللَّهِ هُمۡ یَكۡفُرُونَ ۝٧٢

And it is Allah Who has made spouses for you from among yourselves, and through your spouses He has given you sons, daughters and their further families. And He has provided wholesome food for you. Do they believe then in the falsehood and suppress the fact that it is Allah Who has given them the good things they enjoy

wal-lahu jaʿala lakum min anfusikum azwājan wajaʿala lakum min azwājikum banīna waḥafadatan warazaqakum mina l-ṭayibāti afabil-bāṭili yu'minūna wabiniʿ'mati l-lahi hum yakfurūn

وَیَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا یَمۡلِكُ لَهُمۡ رِزۡقࣰا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ شَیۡءࣰا وَلَا یَسۡتَطِیعُونَ ۝٧٣

And they worship, besides Allah, those that possess nothing, in the heavens and the earth, wherewith to sustain their worshippers. Nor have those any power to possess anything

wayaʿbudūna min dūni l-lahi mā lā yamliku lahum riz'qan mina l-samāwāti wal-arḍi shayan walā yastaṭīʿūn

فَلَا تَضۡرِبُوا۟ لِلَّهِ ٱلۡأَمۡثَالَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یَعۡلَمُ وَأَنتُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٧٤

So liken not anything to Allah! Indeed, Allah knows and you do not

falā taḍribū lillahi l-amthāla inna l-laha yaʿlamu wa-antum lā taʿlamūn

۞ ضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلًا عَبۡدࣰا مَّمۡلُوكࣰا لَّا یَقۡدِرُ عَلَىٰ شَیۡءࣲ وَمَن رَّزَقۡنَـٰهُ مِنَّا رِزۡقًا حَسَنࣰا فَهُوَ یُنفِقُ مِنۡهُ سِرࣰّا وَجَهۡرًاۖ هَلۡ یَسۡتَوُۥنَۚ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِۚ بَلۡ أَكۡثَرُهُمۡ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٧٥

Allah gives an example: a slave — property of another person — who has no power over anything, and, on the other hand, a free man whom We have given a good provision from Ourselves and he spends from it secretly and openly. Are the two alike? To Allah is due all praise! But, most of them know not

ḍaraba l-lahu mathalan ʿabdan mamlūkan lā yaqdiru ʿalā shayin waman razaqnāhu minnā riz'qan ḥasanan fahuwa yunfiqu min'hu sirran wajahran hal yastawūna l-ḥamdu lillahi bal aktharuhum lā yaʿlamūn

وَضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلࣰا رَّجُلَیۡنِ أَحَدُهُمَاۤ أَبۡكَمُ لَا یَقۡدِرُ عَلَىٰ شَیۡءࣲ وَهُوَ كَلٌّ عَلَىٰ مَوۡلَىٰهُ أَیۡنَمَا یُوَجِّههُّ لَا یَأۡتِ بِخَیۡرٍ هَلۡ یَسۡتَوِی هُوَ وَمَن یَأۡمُرُ بِٱلۡعَدۡلِ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ صِرَ ٰطࣲ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣲ ۝٧٦

And Allah gives another example, of two men, one of whom is dumb, unable to do anything, and a burden on his master. He is not good at whatever task the master gives him. Can he be held equal to him who enjoins what is just, and is himself on the right path

waḍaraba l-lahu mathalan rajulayni aḥaduhumā abkamu lā yaqdiru ʿalā shayin wahuwa kallun ʿalā mawlāhu aynamā yuwajjihhu lā yati bikhayrin hal yastawī huwa waman yamuru bil-ʿadli wahuwa ʿalā ṣirāṭin mus'taqīmi

11 Punishment withheld

وَلِلَّهِ غَیۡبُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَمَاۤ أَمۡرُ ٱلسَّاعَةِ إِلَّا كَلَمۡحِ ٱلۡبَصَرِ أَوۡ هُوَ أَقۡرَبُۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ قَدِیرࣱ ۝٧٧

And with Allah is the knowledge of the unseen/secrets of the heavens and the earth. And the happening of the Hour is but as a momentary sight or consuming even less time. Allah indeed can do anything

walillahi ghaybu l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wamā amru l-sāʿati illā kalamḥi l-baṣari aw huwa aqrabu inna l-laha ʿalā kulli shayin qadīru

وَٱللَّهُ أَخۡرَجَكُم مِّنۢ بُطُونِ أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ شَیۡءࣰا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرَ وَٱلۡأَفۡءِدَةَ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٧٨

And it is Allah Who brought you out from the wombs of your mothers, knowing nothing. And He gave you hearing and sight and intellect that you may be grateful.

wal-lahu akhrajakum min buṭūni ummahātikum lā taʿlamūna shayan wajaʿala lakumu l-samʿa wal-abṣāra wal-afidata laʿallakum tashkurūn

أَلَمۡ یَرَوۡا۟ إِلَى ٱلطَّیۡرِ مُسَخَّرَ ٰتࣲ فِی جَوِّ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَا یُمۡسِكُهُنَّ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكَ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٧٩

See they not how the birds are enabled to be in mid-air above? None keeps them there but Allah! Indeed, there are signs in this for people who believe

alam yaraw ilā l-ṭayri musakharātin fī jawwi l-samāi mā yum'sikuhunna illā l-lahu inna fī dhālika laāyātin liqawmin yu'minūn

وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنۢ بُیُوتِكُمۡ سَكَنࣰا وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِّن جُلُودِ ٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمِ بُیُوتࣰا تَسۡتَخِفُّونَهَا یَوۡمَ ظَعۡنِكُمۡ وَیَوۡمَ إِقَامَتِكُمۡ وَمِنۡ أَصۡوَافِهَا وَأَوۡبَارِهَا وَأَشۡعَارِهَاۤ أَثَـٰثࣰا وَمَتَـٰعًا إِلَىٰ حِینࣲ ۝٨٠

And Allah has facilitated for you rest, security and solace in your houses. And He has facilitated for you tents.of the skins of cattle which you find light to carry when you travel and when you stay out. And of the animal wool, fur and hair, He has given you assets and possessions for a time

wal-lahu jaʿala lakum min buyūtikum sakanan wajaʿala lakum min julūdi l-anʿāmi buyūtan tastakhiffūnahā yawma ẓaʿnikum wayawma iqāmatikum wamin aṣwāfihā wa-awbārihā wa-ashʿārihā athāthan wamatāʿan ilā ḥīni

وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّمَّا خَلَقَ ظِلَـٰلࣰا وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡجِبَالِ أَكۡنَـٰنࣰا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمۡ سَرَ ٰبِیلَ تَقِیكُمُ ٱلۡحَرَّ وَسَرَ ٰبِیلَ تَقِیكُم بَأۡسَكُمۡۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ یُتِمُّ نِعۡمَتَهُۥ عَلَیۡكُمۡ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُسۡلِمُونَ ۝٨١

And Allah has made for you shelters from what He has created, and places of retreat in the mountains. And He has provided for garments for you to protect you from the heat and for armour to protect you in your armed conflicts. Thus does He complete His favour upon you in order that you submit to Him

wal-lahu jaʿala lakum mimmā khalaqa ẓilālan wajaʿala lakum mina l-jibāli aknānan wajaʿala lakum sarābīla taqīkumu l-ḥara wasarābīla taqīkum basakum kadhālika yutimmu niʿ'matahu ʿalaykum laʿallakum tus'limūn

فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡا۟ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَیۡكَ ٱلۡبَلَـٰغُ ٱلۡمُبِینُ ۝٨٢

And if, even then, they turn away, the responsibility on you (Prophet Muhammad) is only to deliver Allah's Message clearly to the people

fa-in tawallaw fa-innamā ʿalayka l-balāghu l-mubīn

یَعۡرِفُونَ نِعۡمَتَ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ یُنكِرُونَهَا وَأَكۡثَرُهُمُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرُونَ ۝٨٣

They are aware of Allah's favour, yet they deny it! And most of them are those who suppress the Truth

yaʿrifūna niʿ'mata l-lahi thumma yunkirūnahā wa-aktharuhumu l-kāfirūn

12 Prophets testify

وَیَوۡمَ نَبۡعَثُ مِن كُلِّ أُمَّةࣲ شَهِیدࣰا ثُمَّ لَا یُؤۡذَنُ لِلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَلَا هُمۡ یُسۡتَعۡتَبُونَ ۝٨٤

And One Day We will raise a witness out of every community. Then shall no leeway be given to those who suppress the Truth, nor shall they be allowed to solicit favours

wayawma nabʿathu min kulli ummatin shahīdan thumma lā yu'dhanu lilladhīna kafarū walā hum yus'taʿtabūn

وَإِذَا رَءَا ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابَ فَلَا یُخَفَّفُ عَنۡهُمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ یُنظَرُونَ ۝٨٥

And when those who are wicked experience the punishment, its severity on them shall not be decreased, nor shall they be given any respite

wa-idhā raā alladhīna ẓalamū l-ʿadhāba falā yukhaffafu ʿanhum walā hum yunẓarūn

وَإِذَا رَءَا ٱلَّذِینَ أَشۡرَكُوا۟ شُرَكَاۤءَهُمۡ قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ شُرَكَاۤؤُنَا ٱلَّذِینَ كُنَّا نَدۡعُوا۟ مِن دُونِكَۖ فَأَلۡقَوۡا۟ إِلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡقَوۡلَ إِنَّكُمۡ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ ۝٨٦

And when those who worship others besides Allah see those others, they shall say, "Our Lord! These are our other gods whom we prayed to besides You." But they will retort, "Certainly indeed you are liars!"

wa-idhā raā alladhīna ashrakū shurakāahum qālū rabbanā hāulāi shurakāunā alladhīna kunnā nadʿū min dūnika fa-alqaw ilayhimu l-qawla innakum lakādhibūn

وَأَلۡقَوۡا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ یَوۡمَىِٕذٍ ٱلسَّلَمَۖ وَضَلَّ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ یَفۡتَرُونَ ۝٨٧

And they shall tender submission to Allah on that day. And what they used to concoct shall depart from them

wa-alqaw ilā l-lahi yawma-idhin l-salama waḍalla ʿanhum mā kānū yaftarūn

ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ زِدۡنَـٰهُمۡ عَذَابࣰا فَوۡقَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یُفۡسِدُونَ ۝٨٨

For those who suppress the Truth and cause hindrance in Allah's Path, We will add punishment over punishment because they have been spreading corruption

alladhīna kafarū waṣaddū ʿan sabīli l-lahi zid'nāhum ʿadhāban fawqa l-ʿadhābi bimā kānū yuf'sidūn

وَیَوۡمَ نَبۡعَثُ فِی كُلِّ أُمَّةࣲ شَهِیدًا عَلَیۡهِم مِّنۡ أَنفُسِهِمۡۖ وَجِئۡنَا بِكَ شَهِیدًا عَلَىٰ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِۚ وَنَزَّلۡنَا عَلَیۡكَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ تِبۡیَـٰنࣰا لِّكُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ وَهُدࣰى وَرَحۡمَةࣰ وَبُشۡرَىٰ لِلۡمُسۡلِمِینَ ۝٨٩

And One Day We will raise in every people a witness against them from among themselves, and bring you as a witness against these. And We have revealed to you the Book explaining everythingclearly, and as a guidance, mercy and good news for those who submit.

wayawma nabʿathu fī kulli ummatin shahīdan ʿalayhim min anfusihim waji'nā bika shahīdan ʿalā hāulāi wanazzalnā ʿalayka l-kitāba tib'yānan likulli shayin wahudan waraḥmatan wabush'rā lil'mus'limīn

13 Revelation enjoins Good

۞ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یَأۡمُرُ بِٱلۡعَدۡلِ وَٱلۡإِحۡسَـٰنِ وَإِیتَاۤىِٕ ذِی ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ وَیَنۡهَىٰ عَنِ ٱلۡفَحۡشَاۤءِ وَٱلۡمُنكَرِ وَٱلۡبَغۡیِۚ یَعِظُكُمۡ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٩٠

Allah does indeed enjoin justice, kindness and giving things to near and dear ones. And He forbids obscenity, abomination and rebellion. He admonishes you that you may remember and take heed

inna l-laha yamuru bil-ʿadli wal-iḥ'sāni waītāi dhī l-qur'bā wayanhā ʿani l-faḥshāi wal-munkari wal-baghyi yaʿiẓukum laʿallakum tadhakkarūn

وَأَوۡفُوا۟ بِعَهۡدِ ٱللَّهِ إِذَا عَـٰهَدتُّمۡ وَلَا تَنقُضُوا۟ ٱلۡأَیۡمَـٰنَ بَعۡدَ تَوۡكِیدِهَا وَقَدۡ جَعَلۡتُمُ ٱللَّهَ عَلَیۡكُمۡ كَفِیلًاۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ یَعۡلَمُ مَا تَفۡعَلُونَ ۝٩١

And fulfill Allah's covenant when you make one. And break not oaths after affirming them; for, then, you have indeed made Allah stand surety for you. Allah does indeed know what you do

wa-awfū biʿahdi l-lahi idhā ʿāhadttum walā tanquḍū l-aymāna baʿda tawkīdihā waqad jaʿaltumu l-laha ʿalaykum kafīlan inna l-laha yaʿlamu mā tafʿalūn

وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّتِی نَقَضَتۡ غَزۡلَهَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ قُوَّةٍ أَنكَـٰثࣰا تَتَّخِذُونَ أَیۡمَـٰنَكُمۡ دَخَلَۢا بَیۡنَكُمۡ أَن تَكُونَ أُمَّةٌ هِیَ أَرۡبَىٰ مِنۡ أُمَّةٍۚ إِنَّمَا یَبۡلُوكُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِهِۦۚ وَلَیُبَیِّنَنَّ لَكُمۡ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ مَا كُنتُمۡ فِیهِ تَخۡتَلِفُونَ ۝٩٢

And be not like the woman who disintegrates her well-spun yarn into fibres.You take your oaths as means of interference in one another's affairs so that one community gets bigger than another. Allah has not but put you on trial by this; and He will certainly make clear to you, on the Resurrection Day, that, about which you differed

walā takūnū ka-allatī naqaḍat ghazlahā min baʿdi quwwatin ankāthan tattakhidhūna aymānakum dakhalan baynakum an takūna ummatun hiya arbā min ummatin innamā yablūkumu l-lahu bihi walayubayyinanna lakum yawma l-qiyāmati mā kuntum fīhi takhtalifūn

وَلَوۡ شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ لَجَعَلَكُمۡ أُمَّةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ وَلَـٰكِن یُضِلُّ مَن یَشَاۤءُ وَیَهۡدِی مَن یَشَاۤءُۚ وَلَتُسۡءَلُنَّ عَمَّا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٩٣

And if Allah had so willed, He would certainly have made you a single community. But He causes whom He wills to go astray and guides whom He wills to go on the Right Path. And you will certainly be questioned as to what you did

walaw shāa l-lahu lajaʿalakum ummatan wāḥidatan walākin yuḍillu man yashāu wayahdī man yashāu walatus'alunna ʿammā kuntum taʿmalūn

وَلَا تَتَّخِذُوۤا۟ أَیۡمَـٰنَكُمۡ دَخَلَۢا بَیۡنَكُمۡ فَتَزِلَّ قَدَمُۢ بَعۡدَ ثُبُوتِهَا وَتَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلسُّوۤءَ بِمَا صَدَدتُّمۡ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَكُمۡ عَذَابٌ عَظِیمࣱ ۝٩٤

And take not your oaths as means of interference in one another's affairs, lest a footstep should stumble after it is firmly taken and you should taste adversity because you hindered someone from Allah's Path. And grievous punishment should be your lot

walā tattakhidhū aymānakum dakhalan baynakum fatazilla qadamun baʿda thubūtihā watadhūqū l-sūa bimā ṣadadttum ʿan sabīli l-lahi walakum ʿadhābun ʿaẓīmu

وَلَا تَشۡتَرُوا۟ بِعَهۡدِ ٱللَّهِ ثَمَنࣰا قَلِیلًاۚ إِنَّمَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ هُوَ خَیۡرࣱ لَّكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٩٥

And trade not covenant with Allah, for petty gains. That which is with Allah is certainly better for you, if you but knew

walā tashtarū biʿahdi l-lahi thamanan qalīlan innamā ʿinda l-lahi huwa khayrun lakum in kuntum taʿlamūn

مَا عِندَكُمۡ یَنفَدُ وَمَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ بَاقࣲۗ وَلَنَجۡزِیَنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ صَبَرُوۤا۟ أَجۡرَهُم بِأَحۡسَنِ مَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٩٦

What is with you gets exhausted and what is with Allah endures. And We will certainly give to those who are patient their reward for the good things they did

mā ʿindakum yanfadu wamā ʿinda l-lahi bāqin walanajziyanna alladhīna ṣabarū ajrahum bi-aḥsani mā kānū yaʿmalūn

مَنۡ عَمِلَ صَـٰلِحࣰا مِّن ذَكَرٍ أَوۡ أُنثَىٰ وَهُوَ مُؤۡمِنࣱ فَلَنُحۡیِیَنَّهُۥ حَیَوٰةࣰ طَیِّبَةࣰۖ وَلَنَجۡزِیَنَّهُمۡ أَجۡرَهُم بِأَحۡسَنِ مَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٩٧

Whoever, male or female, does good work, and he/she is a believer, We will certainly make him/her live a good and clean life, and We will certainly give them their reward for the good things they did

man ʿamila ṣāliḥan min dhakarin aw unthā wahuwa mu'minun falanuḥ'yiyannahu ḥayatan ṭayyibatan walanajziyannahum ajrahum bi-aḥsani mā kānū yaʿmalūn

فَإِذَا قَرَأۡتَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ فَٱسۡتَعِذۡ بِٱللَّهِ مِنَ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنِ ٱلرَّجِیمِ ۝٩٨

And when you recite the Qur'aan, seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Satan

fa-idhā qarata l-qur'āna fa-is'taʿidh bil-lahi mina l-shayṭāni l-rajīm

إِنَّهُۥ لَیۡسَ لَهُۥ سُلۡطَـٰنٌ عَلَى ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡ یَتَوَكَّلُونَ ۝٩٩

Indeed he (Satan) has no authority over those who believe and have trust in their Lord

innahu laysa lahu sul'ṭānun ʿalā alladhīna āmanū waʿalā rabbihim yatawakkalūn

إِنَّمَا سُلۡطَـٰنُهُۥ عَلَى ٱلَّذِینَ یَتَوَلَّوۡنَهُۥ وَٱلَّذِینَ هُم بِهِۦ مُشۡرِكُونَ ۝١٠٠

His authority is only over those who befriend him and over those who worship him besides Allah

innamā sul'ṭānuhu ʿalā alladhīna yatawallawnahu wa-alladhīna hum bihi mush'rikūn

14 Qur'an not a Forgery

وَإِذَا بَدَّلۡنَاۤ ءَایَةࣰ مَّكَانَ ءَایَةࣲ وَٱللَّهُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا یُنَزِّلُ قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّمَاۤ أَنتَ مُفۡتَرِۭۚ بَلۡ أَكۡثَرُهُمۡ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝١٠١

And when We change one Message for another — and Allah knows best what He reveals they say, "You are only a forger." Nay, most of them know not

wa-idhā baddalnā āyatan makāna āyatin wal-lahu aʿlamu bimā yunazzilu qālū innamā anta muf'tarin bal aktharuhum lā yaʿlamūn

قُلۡ نَزَّلَهُۥ رُوحُ ٱلۡقُدُسِ مِن رَّبِّكَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ لِیُثَبِّتَ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَهُدࣰى وَبُشۡرَىٰ لِلۡمُسۡلِمِینَ ۝١٠٢

Say, "The Holy Spirit has authoritatively revealed it (the Qur'aan) as from your Lord, in order that it may stabilise those who believe and give guidance and good news for those who submit."

qul nazzalahu rūḥu l-qudusi min rabbika bil-ḥaqi liyuthabbita alladhīna āmanū wahudan wabush'rā lil'mus'limīn

وَلَقَدۡ نَعۡلَمُ أَنَّهُمۡ یَقُولُونَ إِنَّمَا یُعَلِّمُهُۥ بَشَرࣱۗ لِّسَانُ ٱلَّذِی یُلۡحِدُونَ إِلَیۡهِ أَعۡجَمِیࣱّ وَهَـٰذَا لِسَانٌ عَرَبِیࣱّ مُّبِینٌ ۝١٠٣

And We are certainly aware that they say, "A certain man it is who teaches him." The person they are alluding to speaks a foreign tongue, and this is clear Arabic tongue

walaqad naʿlamu annahum yaqūlūna innamā yuʿallimuhu basharun lisānu alladhī yul'ḥidūna ilayhi aʿjamiyyun wahādhā lisānun ʿarabiyyun mubīnu

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ لَا یَهۡدِیهِمُ ٱللَّهُ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمٌ ۝١٠٤

Allah does indeed not guide those who do not believe in His Messages. And they shall have a painful punishment

inna alladhīna lā yu'minūna biāyāti l-lahi lā yahdīhimu l-lahu walahum ʿadhābun alīmu

إِنَّمَا یَفۡتَرِی ٱلۡكَذِبَ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡكَـٰذِبُونَ ۝١٠٥

Those that believe not in Allah's Messages, it is they who concoct the lie. And those are the liars

innamā yaftarī l-kadhiba alladhīna lā yu'minūna biāyāti l-lahi wa-ulāika humu l-kādhibūn

مَن كَفَرَ بِٱللَّهِ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ إِیمَـٰنِهِۦۤ إِلَّا مَنۡ أُكۡرِهَ وَقَلۡبُهُۥ مُطۡمَىِٕنُّۢ بِٱلۡإِیمَـٰنِ وَلَـٰكِن مَّن شَرَحَ بِٱلۡكُفۡرِ صَدۡرࣰا فَعَلَیۡهِمۡ غَضَبࣱ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ عَظِیمࣱ ۝١٠٦

Allah's Wrath is on people who deny Allah after having believed in Him, not on those compelled while their hearts are at rest with faith, but on those that open their minds to suppression of the Truth. And they shall have the most severe punishment

man kafara bil-lahi min baʿdi īmānihi illā man uk'riha waqalbuhu muṭ'ma-innun bil-īmāni walākin man sharaḥa bil-kuf'ri ṣadran faʿalayhim ghaḍabun mina l-lahi walahum ʿadhābun ʿaẓīmu

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمُ ٱسۡتَحَبُّوا۟ ٱلۡحَیَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡیَا عَلَى ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یَهۡدِی ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝١٠٧

That is because they love this worldly life more than the Hereafter, and because Allah does not guide people who suppress the Truth

dhālika bi-annahumu is'taḥabbū l-ḥayata l-dun'yā ʿalā l-ākhirati wa-anna l-laha lā yahdī l-qawma l-kāfirīn

أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ طَبَعَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ وَسَمۡعِهِمۡ وَأَبۡصَـٰرِهِمۡۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡغَـٰفِلُونَ ۝١٠٨

These are the people on whose hearts, hearing and eyes Allah has set a seal. And they take no heed

ulāika alladhīna ṭabaʿa l-lahu ʿalā qulūbihim wasamʿihim wa-abṣārihim wa-ulāika humu l-ghāfilūn

لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ هُمُ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرُونَ ۝١٠٩

No doubt, in the Hereafter, they will be the doomed ones

lā jarama annahum fī l-ākhirati humu l-khāsirūn

ثُمَّ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لِلَّذِینَ هَاجَرُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا فُتِنُوا۟ ثُمَّ جَـٰهَدُوا۟ وَصَبَرُوۤا۟ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهَا لَغَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝١١٠

And then, on the other hand, your Lord is indeed Forgiving and Merciful on those who migrate after they are persecuted, then struggle hard and are patient

thumma inna rabbaka lilladhīna hājarū min baʿdi mā futinū thumma jāhadū waṣabarū inna rabbaka min baʿdihā laghafūrun raḥīmu

15 Fate of Opponents

۞ یَوۡمَ تَأۡتِی كُلُّ نَفۡسࣲ تُجَـٰدِلُ عَن نَّفۡسِهَا وَتُوَفَّىٰ كُلُّ نَفۡسࣲ مَّا عَمِلَتۡ وَهُمۡ لَا یُظۡلَمُونَ ۝١١١

On that Day every one shall come, pleading for one's own self. And every one shall be paid one's full dues, and they shall not be wronged

yawma tatī kullu nafsin tujādilu ʿan nafsihā watuwaffā kullu nafsin mā ʿamilat wahum lā yuẓ'lamūn

وَضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلࣰا قَرۡیَةࣰ كَانَتۡ ءَامِنَةࣰ مُّطۡمَىِٕنَّةࣰ یَأۡتِیهَا رِزۡقُهَا رَغَدࣰا مِّن كُلِّ مَكَانࣲ فَكَفَرَتۡ بِأَنۡعُمِ ٱللَّهِ فَأَذَ ٰقَهَا ٱللَّهُ لِبَاسَ ٱلۡجُوعِ وَٱلۡخَوۡفِ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَصۡنَعُونَ ۝١١٢

And Allah gives an example of a village/town, safe and secure, to which its means of subsistence came in abundance from every quarter. Then it became ungrateful to Allah's favours. And Allah made it wear the garb of hunger and fear because of what they wrought

waḍaraba l-lahu mathalan qaryatan kānat āminatan muṭ'ma-innatan yatīhā riz'quhā raghadan min kulli makānin fakafarat bi-anʿumi l-lahi fa-adhāqahā l-lahu libāsa l-jūʿi wal-khawfi bimā kānū yaṣnaʿūn

وَلَقَدۡ جَاۤءَهُمۡ رَسُولࣱ مِّنۡهُمۡ فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ وَهُمۡ ظَـٰلِمُونَ ۝١١٣

And, of course, a Messenger from among them had come to them, but they rejected him. So disaster struck them because of their wickedness

walaqad jāahum rasūlun min'hum fakadhabūhu fa-akhadhahumu l-ʿadhābu wahum ẓālimūn

فَكُلُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ حَلَـٰلࣰا طَیِّبࣰا وَٱشۡكُرُوا۟ نِعۡمَتَ ٱللَّهِ إِن كُنتُمۡ إِیَّاهُ تَعۡبُدُونَ ۝١١٤

Eat then of what Allah has given you, lawful and wholesome. And be grateful for Allah's favours, if Him it is that you worship

fakulū mimmā razaqakumu l-lahu ḥalālan ṭayyiban wa-ush'kurū niʿ'mata l-lahi in kuntum iyyāhu taʿbudūn

إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ عَلَیۡكُمُ ٱلۡمَیۡتَةَ وَٱلدَّمَ وَلَحۡمَ ٱلۡخِنزِیرِ وَمَاۤ أُهِلَّ لِغَیۡرِ ٱللَّهِ بِهِۦۖ فَمَنِ ٱضۡطُرَّ غَیۡرَ بَاغࣲ وَلَا عَادࣲ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝١١٥

HE has forbidden you only carrion (what dies of itself), blood, flesh of swine and that over which any name, other than that of Allah, has been invoked. But if anyone is driven by necessity — and not desire — and does not exceed limits, then Allah is indeed Forgiving, Merciful

innamā ḥarrama ʿalaykumu l-maytata wal-dama walaḥma l-khinzīri wamā uhilla lighayri l-lahi bihi famani uḍ'ṭurra ghayra bāghin walā ʿādin fa-inna l-laha ghafūrun raḥīmu

وَلَا تَقُولُوا۟ لِمَا تَصِفُ أَلۡسِنَتُكُمُ ٱلۡكَذِبَ هَـٰذَا حَلَـٰلࣱ وَهَـٰذَا حَرَامࣱ لِّتَفۡتَرُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡكَذِبَۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ یَفۡتَرُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡكَذِبَ لَا یُفۡلِحُونَ ۝١١٦

And describe not anything falsely, with your tongues, as being lawful or unlawful so as to concoct a lie and ascribe it to Allah. Indeed, those who concoct a lie and ascribe it to Allah shall not prosper

walā taqūlū limā taṣifu alsinatukumu l-kadhiba hādhā ḥalālun wahādhā ḥarāmun litaftarū ʿalā l-lahi l-kadhiba inna alladhīna yaftarūna ʿalā l-lahi l-kadhiba lā yuf'liḥūn

مَتَـٰعࣱ قَلِیلࣱ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝١١٧

They will enjoy a little and then have a painful punishment

matāʿun qalīlun walahum ʿadhābun alīmu

وَعَلَى ٱلَّذِینَ هَادُوا۟ حَرَّمۡنَا مَا قَصَصۡنَا عَلَیۡكَ مِن قَبۡلُۖ وَمَا ظَلَمۡنَـٰهُمۡ وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ یَظۡلِمُونَ ۝١١٨

And for those who were Jews, We prohibited what We have related to you already.h And We did them no wrong, but they wronged themselves

waʿalā alladhīna hādū ḥarramnā mā qaṣaṣnā ʿalayka min qablu wamā ẓalamnāhum walākin kānū anfusahum yaẓlimūn

ثُمَّ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لِلَّذِینَ عَمِلُوا۟ ٱلسُّوۤءَ بِجَهَـٰلَةࣲ ثُمَّ تَابُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ ذَ ٰلِكَ وَأَصۡلَحُوۤا۟ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهَا لَغَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمٌ ۝١١٩

And your Lord is indeed Forgiving and Merciful to those who do an evil act in ignorance, then turn in repentance after that and make amends

thumma inna rabbaka lilladhīna ʿamilū l-sūa bijahālatin thumma tābū min baʿdi dhālika wa-aṣlaḥū inna rabbaka min baʿdihā laghafūrun raḥīmu

16 Way to Greatness

إِنَّ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ كَانَ أُمَّةࣰ قَانِتࣰا لِّلَّهِ حَنِیفࣰا وَلَمۡ یَكُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ ۝١٢٠

Abraham was indeed an institution by himself, firmly committed to Allah. And he was never a polytheist

inna ib'rāhīma kāna ummatan qānitan lillahi ḥanīfan walam yaku mina l-mush'rikīn

شَاكِرࣰا لِّأَنۡعُمِهِۚ ٱجۡتَبَىٰهُ وَهَدَىٰهُ إِلَىٰ صِرَ ٰطࣲ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣲ ۝١٢١

He was ever grateful for Allah's favours. HE chose him and guided him to the Straight Path

shākiran li-anʿumihi ij'tabāhu wahadāhu ilā ṣirāṭin mus'taqīmi

وَءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُ فِی ٱلدُّنۡیَا حَسَنَةࣰۖ وَإِنَّهُۥ فِی ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ لَمِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِینَ ۝١٢٢

And We gave him a good life in this world, and, in the next, he will indeed be among the good, righteous people

waātaynāhu fī l-dun'yā ḥasanatan wa-innahu fī l-ākhirati lamina l-ṣāliḥīn

ثُمَّ أَوۡحَیۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡكَ أَنِ ٱتَّبِعۡ مِلَّةَ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ حَنِیفࣰاۖ وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ ۝١٢٣

We then instructed you to follow Abraham's lifestyle steadfastly. And he was not of the polytheists

thumma awḥaynā ilayka ani ittabiʿ millata ib'rāhīma ḥanīfan wamā kāna mina l-mush'rikīn

إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ ٱلسَّبۡتُ عَلَى ٱلَّذِینَ ٱخۡتَلَفُوا۟ فِیهِۚ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَیَحۡكُمُ بَیۡنَهُمۡ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ فِیمَا كَانُوا۟ فِیهِ یَخۡتَلِفُونَ ۝١٢٤

The Sabbat was ordained only for those who differed about it, and your Lord indeed will judge between them on the Resurrection Day concerning that about which they differed

innamā juʿila l-sabtu ʿalā alladhīna ikh'talafū fīhi wa-inna rabbaka layaḥkumu baynahum yawma l-qiyāmati fīmā kānū fīhi yakhtalifūn

ٱدۡعُ إِلَىٰ سَبِیلِ رَبِّكَ بِٱلۡحِكۡمَةِ وَٱلۡمَوۡعِظَةِ ٱلۡحَسَنَةِۖ وَجَـٰدِلۡهُم بِٱلَّتِی هِیَ أَحۡسَنُۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِیلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِٱلۡمُهۡتَدِینَ ۝١٢٥

Call people to the Path of your Lord with wisdom and good counsel, and argue with them in the best possible manner. Your Lord does indeed know who go astray from His path, and who follow it

ud'ʿu ilā sabīli rabbika bil-ḥik'mati wal-mawʿiẓati l-ḥasanati wajādil'hum bi-allatī hiya aḥsanu inna rabbaka huwa aʿlamu biman ḍalla ʿan sabīlihi wahuwa aʿlamu bil-muh'tadīn

وَإِنۡ عَاقَبۡتُمۡ فَعَاقِبُوا۟ بِمِثۡلِ مَا عُوقِبۡتُم بِهِۦۖ وَلَىِٕن صَبَرۡتُمۡ لَهُوَ خَیۡرࣱ لِّلصَّـٰبِرِینَ ۝١٢٦

And if you retaliate, then retaliate with the like of that with which you were afflicted. But if you are patient, it will certainly be better for those who are patient

wa-in ʿāqabtum faʿāqibū bimith'li mā ʿūqib'tum bihi wala-in ṣabartum lahuwa khayrun lilṣṣābirīn

وَٱصۡبِرۡ وَمَا صَبۡرُكَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّهِۚ وَلَا تَحۡزَنۡ عَلَیۡهِمۡ وَلَا تَكُ فِی ضَیۡقࣲ مِّمَّا یَمۡكُرُونَ ۝١٢٧

And be patient and your patience is not but by Allah's Grace. And grieve not for them, and do not distress yourself at what they plot

wa-iṣ'bir wamā ṣabruka illā bil-lahi walā taḥzan ʿalayhim walā taku fī ḍayqin mimmā yamkurūn

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱتَّقَوا۟ وَّٱلَّذِینَ هُم مُّحۡسِنُونَ ۝١٢٨

Allah is indeed with those who fear Him and with those who do good deeds

inna l-laha maʿa alladhīna ittaqaw wa-alladhīna hum muḥ'sinūn
