1 Invitation to Truth

تَنزِیلࣱ مِّنَ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِیمِ ۝٢

A revelation from Ar-Rahman [The All-merciful], The Most Merciful.

tanzīlun mina l-raḥmāni l-raḥīm

كِتَـٰبࣱ فُصِّلَتۡ ءَایَـٰتُهُۥ قُرۡءَانًا عَرَبِیࣰّا لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣

A book whereof the signs have been laid down in detail; a Quran in Arabic for a people who know;

kitābun fuṣṣilat āyātuhu qur'ānan ʿarabiyyan liqawmin yaʿlamūn

بَشِیرࣰا وَنَذِیرࣰا فَأَعۡرَضَ أَكۡثَرُهُمۡ فَهُمۡ لَا یَسۡمَعُونَ ۝٤

a bringer of glad tidings and a warner yet most of them turned away so they do not hear.

bashīran wanadhīran fa-aʿraḍa aktharuhum fahum lā yasmaʿūn

وَقَالُوا۟ قُلُوبُنَا فِیۤ أَكِنَّةࣲ مِّمَّا تَدۡعُونَاۤ إِلَیۡهِ وَفِیۤ ءَاذَانِنَا وَقۡرࣱ وَمِنۢ بَیۡنِنَا وَبَیۡنِكَ حِجَابࣱ فَٱعۡمَلۡ إِنَّنَا عَـٰمِلُونَ ۝٥

And they say, “Our hearts are in a lock from that which you call us unto and in our ears there is a heaviness [deafness] and between us and you there is a veil therefore do your work for indeed we are going to do our work.”

waqālū qulūbunā fī akinnatin mimmā tadʿūnā ilayhi wafī ādhāninā waqrun wamin bayninā wabaynika ḥijābun fa-iʿ'mal innanā ʿāmilūn

قُلۡ إِنَّمَاۤ أَنَا۠ بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُكُمۡ یُوحَىٰۤ إِلَیَّ أَنَّمَاۤ إِلَـٰهُكُمۡ إِلَـٰهࣱ وَ ٰحِدࣱ فَٱسۡتَقِیمُوۤا۟ إِلَیۡهِ وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرُوهُۗ وَوَیۡلࣱ لِّلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ ۝٦

Say, “I am but a human the best model for you; it is revealed to me that your deity is one deity therefore stand upright to Him and ask forgiveness from Him.” and woe unto those who ascribe partners unto Him.

qul innamā anā basharun mith'lukum yūḥā ilayya annamā ilāhukum ilāhun wāḥidun fa-is'taqīmū ilayhi wa-is'taghfirūhu wawaylun lil'mush'rikīn

ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡتُونَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَهُم بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ هُمۡ كَـٰفِرُونَ ۝٧

Those who do not give the sanctifying dues while they are disbelievers in the hereafter.

alladhīna lā yu'tūna l-zakata wahum bil-ākhirati hum kāfirūn

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمۡ أَجۡرٌ غَیۡرُ مَمۡنُونࣲ ۝٨

Truly those who believe and do righteous deeds, for them is a reward that is never discontinued.

inna alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti lahum ajrun ghayru mamnūni

2 The Warning

۞ قُلۡ أَىِٕنَّكُمۡ لَتَكۡفُرُونَ بِٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ فِی یَوۡمَیۡنِ وَتَجۡعَلُونَ لَهُۥۤ أَندَادࣰاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ رَبُّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٩

Say, “Is it indeed that you truly disbelieve in the one who created the earth in two periods and you make for Him equals?” That indeed is Lord of the worlds.

qul a-innakum latakfurūna bi-alladhī khalaqa l-arḍa fī yawmayni watajʿalūna lahu andādan dhālika rabbu l-ʿālamīn

وَجَعَلَ فِیهَا رَوَ ٰسِیَ مِن فَوۡقِهَا وَبَـٰرَكَ فِیهَا وَقَدَّرَ فِیهَاۤ أَقۡوَ ٰتَهَا فِیۤ أَرۡبَعَةِ أَیَّامࣲ سَوَاۤءࣰ لِّلسَّاۤىِٕلِینَ ۝١٠

And in it He placed mountains from its top and He put blessings in it and He measured its sustenance in it in due proportion all in four periods, equal for all the seekers.

wajaʿala fīhā rawāsiya min fawqihā wabāraka fīhā waqaddara fīhā aqwātahā fī arbaʿati ayyāmin sawāan lilssāilīn

ثُمَّ ٱسۡتَوَىٰۤ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ وَهِیَ دُخَانࣱ فَقَالَ لَهَا وَلِلۡأَرۡضِ ٱئۡتِیَا طَوۡعًا أَوۡ كَرۡهࣰا قَالَتَاۤ أَتَیۡنَا طَاۤىِٕعِینَ ۝١١

Then He turned to the heaven while it was a smoke then He said to it and to the earth, “Come both of you willingly or by compulsion.” They both said, “We come willingly.”

thumma is'tawā ilā l-samāi wahiya dukhānun faqāla lahā walil'arḍi i'tiyā ṭawʿan aw karhan qālatā ataynā ṭāiʿīn

فَقَضَىٰهُنَّ سَبۡعَ سَمَـٰوَاتࣲ فِی یَوۡمَیۡنِ وَأَوۡحَىٰ فِی كُلِّ سَمَاۤءٍ أَمۡرَهَاۚ وَزَیَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَاۤءَ ٱلدُّنۡیَا بِمَصَـٰبِیحَ وَحِفۡظࣰاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ تَقۡدِیرُ ٱلۡعَزِیزِ ٱلۡعَلِیمِ ۝١٢

Then He decreed them to be seven heavens in two periods and He inspired in every heaven its commandment and He adorned the lower heaven with lamps and as a protection [for them too]. That is the wise measurement of The All-mighty, The All-knowing.

faqaḍāhunna sabʿa samāwātin fī yawmayni wa-awḥā fī kulli samāin amrahā wazayyannā l-samāa l-dun'yā bimaṣābīḥa waḥif'ẓan dhālika taqdīru l-ʿazīzi l-ʿalīm

فَإِنۡ أَعۡرَضُوا۟ فَقُلۡ أَنذَرۡتُكُمۡ صَـٰعِقَةࣰ مِّثۡلَ صَـٰعِقَةِ عَادࣲ وَثَمُودَ ۝١٣

But if they turn away then say, “I warn you of a doom like the doom of ‘Ad and of Samood.”

fa-in aʿraḍū faqul andhartukum ṣāʿiqatan mith'la ṣāʿiqati ʿādin wathamūd

إِذۡ جَاۤءَتۡهُمُ ٱلرُّسُلُ مِنۢ بَیۡنِ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ وَمِنۡ خَلۡفِهِمۡ أَلَّا تَعۡبُدُوۤا۟ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَۖ قَالُوا۟ لَوۡ شَاۤءَ رَبُّنَا لَأَنزَلَ مَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةࣰ فَإِنَّا بِمَاۤ أُرۡسِلۡتُم بِهِۦ كَـٰفِرُونَ ۝١٤

When the messengers came to them from before them and from after them [saying] that, “Do not worship any except Allah.” They said, “If our Lord had so pleased He would have surely sent down angels. We are therefore disbelievers in that which you are sent with.”

idh jāathumu l-rusulu min bayni aydīhim wamin khalfihim allā taʿbudū illā l-laha qālū law shāa rabbunā la-anzala malāikatan fa-innā bimā ur'sil'tum bihi kāfirūn

فَأَمَّا عَادࣱ فَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ بِغَیۡرِ ٱلۡحَقِّ وَقَالُوا۟ مَنۡ أَشَدُّ مِنَّا قُوَّةًۖ أَوَ لَمۡ یَرَوۡا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَهُمۡ هُوَ أَشَدُّ مِنۡهُمۡ قُوَّةࣰۖ وَكَانُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا یَجۡحَدُونَ ۝١٥

As of ‘Ad they then grew arrogant in the earth without the truth and they said, “Who is greater than us in power?” Have they not seen that Allah who has created them, He is greater than them in power but they used to deny Our signs.

fa-ammā ʿādun fa-is'takbarū fī l-arḍi bighayri l-ḥaqi waqālū man ashaddu minnā quwwatan awalam yaraw anna l-laha alladhī khalaqahum huwa ashaddu min'hum quwwatan wakānū biāyātinā yajḥadūn

فَأَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ رِیحࣰا صَرۡصَرࣰا فِیۤ أَیَّامࣲ نَّحِسَاتࣲ لِّنُذِیقَهُمۡ عَذَابَ ٱلۡخِزۡیِ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَاۖ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ أَخۡزَىٰۖ وَهُمۡ لَا یُنصَرُونَ ۝١٦

So We sent against them a wind of extreme coldness in days of ill omen so that We may make them taste the punishment of humiliation in the life of this world but truly the punishment of the hereafter is more humiliating and they will not be helped.

fa-arsalnā ʿalayhim rīḥan ṣarṣaran fī ayyāmin naḥisātin linudhīqahum ʿadhāba l-khiz'yi fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā walaʿadhābu l-ākhirati akhzā wahum lā yunṣarūn

وَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَهَدَیۡنَـٰهُمۡ فَٱسۡتَحَبُّوا۟ ٱلۡعَمَىٰ عَلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰ فَأَخَذَتۡهُمۡ صَـٰعِقَةُ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡهُونِ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡسِبُونَ ۝١٧

And as for Samood, We indeed gave them guidance but they preferred the blindness over the guidance so the doom of the humiliating punishment seized them because of that which they used to perpetrate.

wa-ammā thamūdu fahadaynāhum fa-is'taḥabbū l-ʿamā ʿalā l-hudā fa-akhadhathum ṣāʿiqatu l-ʿadhābi l-hūni bimā kānū yaksibūn

وَنَجَّیۡنَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ یَتَّقُونَ ۝١٨

But We saved those who believed and used to safeguard their own souls.

wanajjaynā alladhīna āmanū wakānū yattaqūn

3 Man's Evidence against Himself

وَیَوۡمَ یُحۡشَرُ أَعۡدَاۤءُ ٱللَّهِ إِلَى ٱلنَّارِ فَهُمۡ یُوزَعُونَ ۝١٩

And the day when the enemies of Allah will be driven on pressed forward to be gathered to the fire.

wayawma yuḥ'sharu aʿdāu l-lahi ilā l-nāri fahum yūzaʿūn

حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا مَا جَاۤءُوهَا شَهِدَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ سَمۡعُهُمۡ وَأَبۡصَـٰرُهُمۡ وَجُلُودُهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٢٠

Until when they come after it their hearings and their sights and their skins will witness against them about all that they used to do.

ḥattā idhā mā jāūhā shahida ʿalayhim samʿuhum wa-abṣāruhum wajulūduhum bimā kānū yaʿmalūn

وَقَالُوا۟ لِجُلُودِهِمۡ لِمَ شَهِدتُّمۡ عَلَیۡنَاۖ قَالُوۤا۟ أَنطَقَنَا ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَنطَقَ كُلَّ شَیۡءࣲۚ وَهُوَ خَلَقَكُمۡ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةࣲ وَإِلَیۡهِ تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝٢١

And they said to their skins, “Why have you witnessed against us?” They said, “Allah has made us to speak and is the one who causes everything to speak and it is He who created you the first time and unto Him you will be returned.”

waqālū lijulūdihim lima shahidttum ʿalaynā qālū anṭaqanā l-lahu alladhī anṭaqa kulla shayin wahuwa khalaqakum awwala marratin wa-ilayhi tur'jaʿūn

وَمَا كُنتُمۡ تَسۡتَتِرُونَ أَن یَشۡهَدَ عَلَیۡكُمۡ سَمۡعُكُمۡ وَلَاۤ أَبۡصَـٰرُكُمۡ وَلَا جُلُودُكُمۡ وَلَـٰكِن ظَنَنتُمۡ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یَعۡلَمُ كَثِیرࣰا مِّمَّا تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٢٢

And you did not use to care to hide yourself lest your hearing and your sight and your skins witness against you but you thought that Allah would not know much of what you used to do.

wamā kuntum tastatirūna an yashhada ʿalaykum samʿukum walā abṣārukum walā julūdukum walākin ẓanantum anna l-laha lā yaʿlamu kathīran mimmā taʿmalūn

وَذَ ٰلِكُمۡ ظَنُّكُمُ ٱلَّذِی ظَنَنتُم بِرَبِّكُمۡ أَرۡدَىٰكُمۡ فَأَصۡبَحۡتُم مِّنَ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرِینَ ۝٢٣

That was the thought that you thought about your Lord it has ruined you therefore you became of the ones in loss.

wadhālikum ẓannukumu alladhī ẓanantum birabbikum ardākum fa-aṣbaḥtum mina l-khāsirīn

فَإِن یَصۡبِرُوا۟ فَٱلنَّارُ مَثۡوࣰى لَّهُمۡۖ وَإِن یَسۡتَعۡتِبُوا۟ فَمَا هُم مِّنَ ٱلۡمُعۡتَبِینَ ۝٢٤

If they show patience, the fire is yet an abode for them and if they seek to be pleased with, they are not among those who will be pleased with.

fa-in yaṣbirū fal-nāru mathwan lahum wa-in yastaʿtibū famā hum mina l-muʿ'tabīn

۞ وَقَیَّضۡنَا لَهُمۡ قُرَنَاۤءَ فَزَیَّنُوا۟ لَهُم مَّا بَیۡنَ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ وَمَا خَلۡفَهُمۡ وَحَقَّ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ فِیۤ أُمَمࣲ قَدۡ خَلَتۡ مِن قَبۡلِهِم مِّنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ وَٱلۡإِنسِۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ خَـٰسِرِینَ ۝٢٥

And We have decreed for them companions and they made seem goodly to them all that was before them and all that was after them and the sentence of the truth passed against them to be among nations who passed before them from among the Jinns and the humans. Truly they were indeed in loss.

waqayyaḍnā lahum quranāa fazayyanū lahum mā bayna aydīhim wamā khalfahum waḥaqqa ʿalayhimu l-qawlu fī umamin qad khalat min qablihim mina l-jini wal-insi innahum kānū khāsirīn

4 Believers strengthened

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَا تَسۡمَعُوا۟ لِهَـٰذَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ وَٱلۡغَوۡا۟ فِیهِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَغۡلِبُونَ ۝٢٦

And those who disbelieve said, “Do not listen to this Quran and make idle talk in the course of its recitation so that perhaps you may triumph.”

waqāla alladhīna kafarū lā tasmaʿū lihādhā l-qur'āni wal-ghaw fīhi laʿallakum taghlibūn

فَلَنُذِیقَنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ عَذَابࣰا شَدِیدࣰا وَلَنَجۡزِیَنَّهُمۡ أَسۡوَأَ ٱلَّذِی كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٢٧

And surely We will make those who disbelieve taste a formidable punishment and We will surely reward them with the worst of what they used to do.

falanudhīqanna alladhīna kafarū ʿadhāban shadīdan walanajziyannahum aswa-a alladhī kānū yaʿmalūn

ذَ ٰلِكَ جَزَاۤءُ أَعۡدَاۤءِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلنَّارُۖ لَهُمۡ فِیهَا دَارُ ٱلۡخُلۡدِ جَزَاۤءَۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا یَجۡحَدُونَ ۝٢٨

That is the reward of the enemies of Allah; the fire – therein is the home of eternity for them as a reward for that they used to deny Our signs.

dhālika jazāu aʿdāi l-lahi l-nāru lahum fīhā dāru l-khul'di jazāan bimā kānū biāyātinā yajḥadūn

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ رَبَّنَاۤ أَرِنَا ٱلَّذَیۡنِ أَضَلَّانَا مِنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ وَٱلۡإِنسِ نَجۡعَلۡهُمَا تَحۡتَ أَقۡدَامِنَا لِیَكُونَا مِنَ ٱلۡأَسۡفَلِینَ ۝٢٩

And those who disbelieve said, “O our Lord! Show us those who misguided us from the Jinns and the humans and we will place both of them under our feet so that they be among the lowest.”

waqāla alladhīna kafarū rabbanā arinā alladhayni aḍallānā mina l-jini wal-insi najʿalhumā taḥta aqdāminā liyakūnā mina l-asfalīn

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ قَالُوا۟ رَبُّنَا ٱللَّهُ ثُمَّ ٱسۡتَقَـٰمُوا۟ تَتَنَزَّلُ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ أَلَّا تَخَافُوا۟ وَلَا تَحۡزَنُوا۟ وَأَبۡشِرُوا۟ بِٱلۡجَنَّةِ ٱلَّتِی كُنتُمۡ تُوعَدُونَ ۝٣٠

Truly those who said, “Our Lord is Allah” and then they stood upright, the angels come down upon them [saying], “Do not fear and do not grieve and glad tidings be for you about the paradise which you were promised.

inna alladhīna qālū rabbunā l-lahu thumma is'taqāmū tatanazzalu ʿalayhimu l-malāikatu allā takhāfū walā taḥzanū wa-abshirū bil-janati allatī kuntum tūʿadūn

نَحۡنُ أَوۡلِیَاۤؤُكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَفِی ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِۖ وَلَكُمۡ فِیهَا مَا تَشۡتَهِیۤ أَنفُسُكُمۡ وَلَكُمۡ فِیهَا مَا تَدَّعُونَ ۝٣١

We are your allies in the life of this world and in the hereafter and therein for you is all that your souls desire and therein is for you all that you ask for

naḥnu awliyāukum fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā wafī l-ākhirati walakum fīhā mā tashtahī anfusukum walakum fīhā mā taddaʿūn

نُزُلࣰا مِّنۡ غَفُورࣲ رَّحِیمࣲ ۝٣٢

a welcome gift for homecoming from [a Lord] Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

nuzulan min ghafūrin raḥīmi

5 Effect of Revelation

وَمَنۡ أَحۡسَنُ قَوۡلࣰا مِّمَّن دَعَاۤ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحࣰا وَقَالَ إِنَّنِی مِنَ ٱلۡمُسۡلِمِینَ ۝٣٣

And who is more excellent in speech than one who calls unto Allah and works righteous deeds and says, “I am indeed one of those who have submitted to Allah.”

waman aḥsanu qawlan mimman daʿā ilā l-lahi waʿamila ṣāliḥan waqāla innanī mina l-mus'limīn

وَلَا تَسۡتَوِی ٱلۡحَسَنَةُ وَلَا ٱلسَّیِّئَةُۚ ٱدۡفَعۡ بِٱلَّتِی هِیَ أَحۡسَنُ فَإِذَا ٱلَّذِی بَیۡنَكَ وَبَیۡنَهُۥ عَدَ ٰوَةࣱ كَأَنَّهُۥ وَلِیٌّ حَمِیمࣱ ۝٣٤

And the good and the evil are not equal. Pushback [evil] with that which is most excellent and one between you and him there is an enmity, lo! It is as though he is an ally and an intimate friend.

walā tastawī l-ḥasanatu walā l-sayi-atu id'faʿ bi-allatī hiya aḥsanu fa-idhā alladhī baynaka wabaynahu ʿadāwatun ka-annahu waliyyun ḥamīmu

وَمَا یُلَقَّىٰهَاۤ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِینَ صَبَرُوا۟ وَمَا یُلَقَّىٰهَاۤ إِلَّا ذُو حَظٍّ عَظِیمࣲ ۝٣٥

And none receives it except those who are patient and none receives it except one who is of the most magnificent fortune.

wamā yulaqqāhā illā alladhīna ṣabarū wamā yulaqqāhā illā dhū ḥaẓẓin ʿaẓīmi

وَإِمَّا یَنزَغَنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنِ نَزۡغࣱ فَٱسۡتَعِذۡ بِٱللَّهِۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِیعُ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ۝٣٦

And if ever a prompting from Satan prompts you then seek refuge with Allah. Truly He it is who is The All-hearing, The All-knowing.

wa-immā yanzaghannaka mina l-shayṭāni nazghun fa-is'taʿidh bil-lahi innahu huwa l-samīʿu l-ʿalīm

وَمِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِهِ ٱلَّیۡلُ وَٱلنَّهَارُ وَٱلشَّمۡسُ وَٱلۡقَمَرُۚ لَا تَسۡجُدُوا۟ لِلشَّمۡسِ وَلَا لِلۡقَمَرِ وَ̅ٱ̅سۡ̅جُ̅دُ̅و̅ا۟̅ ̅لِ̅لَّ̅هِ̅ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَهُنَّ إِن كُنتُمۡ إِیَّاهُ تَعۡبُدُونَ ۝٣٧

And among His signs are the night and the day and the sun and the moon. Do not prostrate to the sun nor to the moon but prostrate to Allah, the One who created them if it is indeed Him that you worship.

wamin āyātihi al-laylu wal-nahāru wal-shamsu wal-qamaru lā tasjudū lilshamsi walā lil'qamari wa-us'judū lillahi alladhī khalaqahunna in kuntum iyyāhu taʿbudūn

فَإِنِ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ فَٱلَّذِینَ عِندَ رَبِّكَ یُسَبِّحُونَ لَهُۥ بِٱلَّیۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ وَهُمۡ لَا یَسۡءَمُونَ ۝٣٨ ۩

But if they grow arrogant, as for those who are in the presence of your Lord, they glorify Him by the night and by the day and they do not feel bored.

fa-ini is'takbarū fa-alladhīna ʿinda rabbika yusabbiḥūna lahu bi-al-layli wal-nahāri wahum lā yasamūn

وَمِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِهِۦۤ أَنَّكَ تَرَى ٱلۡأَرۡضَ خَـٰشِعَةࣰ فَإِذَاۤ أَنزَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهَا ٱلۡمَاۤءَ ٱهۡتَزَّتۡ وَرَبَتۡۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَحۡیَاهَا لَمُحۡیِ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰۤۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ قَدِیرٌ ۝٣٩

And among His signs is that you see the earth in a lifeless state but when We send down the water on it, it moves and swells up. Truly the One who brought it to life is surely the One who brings the dead to life. Truly He has power over all things.

wamin āyātihi annaka tarā l-arḍa khāshiʿatan fa-idhā anzalnā ʿalayhā l-māa ih'tazzat warabat inna alladhī aḥyāhā lamuḥ'yī l-mawtā innahu ʿalā kulli shayin qadīru

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ یُلۡحِدُونَ فِیۤ ءَایَـٰتِنَا لَا یَخۡفَوۡنَ عَلَیۡنَاۤۗ أَفَمَن یُلۡقَىٰ فِی ٱلنَّارِ خَیۡرٌ أَم مَّن یَأۡتِیۤ ءَامِنࣰا یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِۚ ٱعۡمَلُوا۟ مَا شِئۡتُمۡ إِنَّهُۥ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ بَصِیرٌ ۝٤٠

Truly those who bring crookedness into Our signs, they are not hidden unto Us. Is the one who is thrown into the fire better or the one who comes safe on the day of resurrection? Do what you please. Truly He is All-seeing about what you do.

inna alladhīna yul'ḥidūna fī āyātinā lā yakhfawna ʿalaynā afaman yul'qā fī l-nāri khayrun am man yatī āminan yawma l-qiyāmati iʿ'malū mā shi'tum innahu bimā taʿmalūna baṣīru

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِٱلذِّكۡرِ لَمَّا جَاۤءَهُمۡۖ وَإِنَّهُۥ لَكِتَـٰبٌ عَزِیزࣱ ۝٤١

Truly those who disbelieved in the remembrance when it came to them [let them know] that it surely is a book unassailable.

inna alladhīna kafarū bil-dhik'ri lammā jāahum wa-innahu lakitābun ʿazīzu

لَّا یَأۡتِیهِ ٱلۡبَـٰطِلُ مِنۢ بَیۡنِ یَدَیۡهِ وَلَا مِنۡ خَلۡفِهِۦۖ تَنزِیلࣱ مِّنۡ حَكِیمٍ حَمِیدࣲ ۝٤٢

The falsehood does not come to it from before it nor from behind it. It is sent down from One All-wise, All-praise-worthy.

lā yatīhi l-bāṭilu min bayni yadayhi walā min khalfihi tanzīlun min ḥakīmin ḥamīdi

مَّا یُقَالُ لَكَ إِلَّا مَا قَدۡ قِیلَ لِلرُّسُلِ مِن قَبۡلِكَۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَذُو مَغۡفِرَةࣲ وَذُو عِقَابٍ أَلِیمࣲ ۝٤٣

There was nothing said to you except that which was said to the messengers before you. Truly your Lord is surely Master of forgiveness and Master of painful chastisement.

mā yuqālu laka illā mā qad qīla lilrrusuli min qablika inna rabbaka ladhū maghfiratin wadhū ʿiqābin alīmi

وَلَوۡ جَعَلۡنَـٰهُ قُرۡءَانًا أَعۡجَمِیࣰّا لَّقَالُوا۟ لَوۡلَا فُصِّلَتۡ ءَایَـٰتُهُۥۤۖ ءَا۬عۡجَمِیࣱّ وَعَرَبِیࣱّۗ قُلۡ هُوَ لِلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ هُدࣰى وَشِفَاۤءࣱۚ وَٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ فِیۤ ءَاذَانِهِمۡ وَقۡرࣱ وَهُوَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ عَمًىۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ یُنَادَوۡنَ مِن مَّكَانِۭ بَعِیدࣲ ۝٤٤

And had We made it a Quran in a non-Arabic tongue, they would have surely said, “If only its signs were explained in detail!” What? A non-Arabic [book] and an Arab [messenger]. Say, “It is for those who believe a guidance and a healing.” But for those who do not believe, there is a heaviness in their ears and it is a blindness unto them. Those are called from a place far removed.

walaw jaʿalnāhu qur'ānan aʿjamiyyan laqālū lawlā fuṣṣilat āyātuhu āʿ'jamiyyun waʿarabiyyun qul huwa lilladhīna āmanū hudan washifāon wa-alladhīna lā yu'minūna fī ādhānihim waqrun wahuwa ʿalayhim ʿaman ulāika yunādawna min makānin baʿīdi

6 Gradual Spread of Truth

وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَیۡنَا مُوسَى ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ فَٱخۡتُلِفَ فِیهِۚ وَلَوۡلَا كَلِمَةࣱ سَبَقَتۡ مِن رَّبِّكَ لَقُضِیَ بَیۡنَهُمۡۚ وَإِنَّهُمۡ لَفِی شَكࣲّ مِّنۡهُ مُرِیبࣲ ۝٤٥

And We had indeed given the book to Moses but they disagreed in it and had it not been for a word that had gone forth from your Lord, the matter surely had been decreed between them. And they truly are in doubtful incredulity about it.

walaqad ātaynā mūsā l-kitāba fa-ukh'tulifa fīhi walawlā kalimatun sabaqat min rabbika laquḍiya baynahum wa-innahum lafī shakkin min'hu murībi

مَّنۡ عَمِلَ صَـٰلِحࣰا فَلِنَفۡسِهِۦۖ وَمَنۡ أَسَاۤءَ فَعَلَیۡهَاۗ وَمَا رَبُّكَ بِظَلَّـٰمࣲ لِّلۡعَبِیدِ ۝٤٦

Whoever works a righteous deed is indeed for the benefit of his own soul and whoever does evil, it is against himself. And your Lord is not the doer of wrong to the slaves.

man ʿamila ṣāliḥan falinafsihi waman asāa faʿalayhā wamā rabbuka biẓallāmin lil'ʿabīd

۞ إِلَیۡهِ یُرَدُّ عِلۡمُ ٱلسَّاعَةِۚ وَمَا تَخۡرُجُ مِن ثَمَرَ ٰتࣲ مِّنۡ أَكۡمَامِهَا وَمَا تَحۡمِلُ مِنۡ أُنثَىٰ وَلَا تَضَعُ إِلَّا بِعِلۡمِهِۦۚ وَیَوۡمَ یُنَادِیهِمۡ أَیۡنَ شُرَكَاۤءِی قَالُوۤا۟ ءَاذَنَّـٰكَ مَامِنَّا مِن شَهِیدࣲ ۝٤٧

Knowledge of the hour is referred back to Him. And no fruits come forth from their sheaths and no female bears nor lays down except by His knowledge. And the day He will call them out, “Where are those that you ascribed as partners to Me?” They will say, “We declare unto You that there is no single witness among us.”

ilayhi yuraddu ʿil'mu l-sāʿati wamā takhruju min thamarātin min akmāmihā wamā taḥmilu min unthā walā taḍaʿu illā biʿil'mihi wayawma yunādīhim ayna shurakāī qālū ādhannāka mā minnā min shahīdi

وَضَلَّ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ یَدۡعُونَ مِن قَبۡلُۖ وَظَنُّوا۟ مَا لَهُم مِّن مَّحِیصࣲ ۝٤٨

And all those that they used to invoke before had gone missing from them and they sensed that there is no place of escape for them.

waḍalla ʿanhum mā kānū yadʿūna min qablu waẓannū mā lahum min maḥīṣi

لَّا یَسۡءَمُ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ مِن دُعَاۤءِ ٱلۡخَیۡرِ وَإِن مَّسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ فَیَءُوسࣱ قَنُوطࣱ ۝٤٩

The human being never gets sated from asking for good but if the harm touches him, lo! He is all hopeless all despairing.

lā yasamu l-insānu min duʿāi l-khayri wa-in massahu l-sharu fayaūsun qanūṭu

وَلَىِٕنۡ أَذَقۡنَـٰهُ رَحۡمَةࣰ مِّنَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ ضَرَّاۤءَ مَسَّتۡهُ لَیَقُولَنَّ هَـٰذَا لِی وَمَاۤ أَظُنُّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ قَاۤىِٕمَةࣰ وَلَىِٕن رُّجِعۡتُ إِلَىٰ رَبِّیۤ إِنَّ لِی عِندَهُۥ لَلۡحُسۡنَىٰۚ فَلَنُنَبِّئَنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَلَنُذِیقَنَّهُم مِّنۡ عَذَابٍ غَلِیظࣲ ۝٥٠

And if We do make him taste a mercy from Us after a distress which touched him, he is sure to say, “This is for me and I do not think that the hour will ever come to pass and if I am ever brought back to my Lord, certainly with Him for me is [nothing but] the goodly reward.” Surely We are going to inform those who disbelieve about all that they did and surely we will make them taste from a tough punishment.

wala-in adhaqnāhu raḥmatan minnā min baʿdi ḍarrāa massathu layaqūlanna hādhā lī wamā aẓunnu l-sāʿata qāimatan wala-in rujiʿ'tu ilā rabbī inna lī ʿindahu lalḥus'nā falanunabbi-anna alladhīna kafarū bimā ʿamilū walanudhīqannahum min ʿadhābin ghalīẓi

وَإِذَاۤ أَنۡعَمۡنَا عَلَى ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنِ أَعۡرَضَ وَنَءَا بِجَانِبِهِۦ وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ فَذُو دُعَاۤءٍ عَرِیضࣲ ۝٥١

And when We bestow grace on the human being, he turns his face away and keeps aloof on his own but when the harm touches him, lo! He is master of a most elaborate supplication.

wa-idhā anʿamnā ʿalā l-insāni aʿraḍa wanaā bijānibihi wa-idhā massahu l-sharu fadhū duʿāin ʿarīḍi

قُلۡ أَرَءَیۡتُمۡ إِن كَانَ مِنۡ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ كَفَرۡتُم بِهِۦ مَنۡ أَضَلُّ مِمَّنۡ هُوَ فِی شِقَاقِۭ بَعِیدࣲ ۝٥٢

Say, “See you that if it were from Allah and you disbelieved in it, then who is more misguided than one who is in a dissension far removed.”

qul ara-aytum in kāna min ʿindi l-lahi thumma kafartum bihi man aḍallu mimman huwa fī shiqāqin baʿīdi

سَنُرِیهِمۡ ءَایَـٰتِنَا فِی ٱلۡءَافَاقِ وَفِیۤ أَنفُسِهِمۡ حَتَّىٰ یَتَبَیَّنَ لَهُمۡ أَنَّهُ ٱلۡحَقُّۗ أَوَ لَمۡ یَكۡفِ بِرَبِّكَ أَنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ شَهِیدٌ ۝٥٣

Soon We will show them Our sings on the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that truly He is the truth. Does it not suffice that your Lord, truly He is a Witness over all things.

sanurīhim āyātinā fī l-āfāqi wafī anfusihim ḥattā yatabayyana lahum annahu l-ḥaqu awalam yakfi birabbika annahu ʿalā kulli shayin shahīdu

أَلَاۤ إِنَّهُمۡ فِی مِرۡیَةࣲ مِّن لِّقَاۤءِ رَبِّهِمۡۗ أَلَاۤ إِنَّهُۥ بِكُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ مُّحِیطُۢ ۝٥٤

Truly they are indeed in a confusion about meeting their Lord. Truly He indeed is All-encompassing about everything.

alā innahum fī mir'yatin min liqāi rabbihim alā innahu bikulli shayin muḥīṭu
