1 Invitation to Truth

تَنزِیلࣱ مِّنَ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِیمِ ۝٢

A revelation from the Owner and Giver of Mercy.

tanzīlun mina l-raḥmāni l-raḥīm

كِتَـٰبࣱ فُصِّلَتۡ ءَایَـٰتُهُۥ قُرۡءَانًا عَرَبِیࣰّا لِّقَوۡمࣲ یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣

A book whose verses have been explained, an Arabic reading (Qur´an) for people who know.

kitābun fuṣṣilat āyātuhu qur'ānan ʿarabiyyan liqawmin yaʿlamūn

بَشِیرࣰا وَنَذِیرࣰا فَأَعۡرَضَ أَكۡثَرُهُمۡ فَهُمۡ لَا یَسۡمَعُونَ ۝٤

Good news and a warning, but most of them turn away and do not listen.

bashīran wanadhīran fa-aʿraḍa aktharuhum fahum lā yasmaʿūn

وَقَالُوا۟ قُلُوبُنَا فِیۤ أَكِنَّةࣲ مِّمَّا تَدۡعُونَاۤ إِلَیۡهِ وَفِیۤ ءَاذَانِنَا وَقۡرࣱ وَمِنۢ بَیۡنِنَا وَبَیۡنِكَ حِجَابࣱ فَٱعۡمَلۡ إِنَّنَا عَـٰمِلُونَ ۝٥

And they say: our hearts are covered against what you call us to and in our ears is a weight and between us and you is a barrier, so act, for we are acting.

waqālū qulūbunā fī akinnatin mimmā tadʿūnā ilayhi wafī ādhāninā waqrun wamin bayninā wabaynika ḥijābun fa-iʿ'mal innanā ʿāmilūn

قُلۡ إِنَّمَاۤ أَنَا۠ بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُكُمۡ یُوحَىٰۤ إِلَیَّ أَنَّمَاۤ إِلَـٰهُكُمۡ إِلَـٰهࣱ وَ ٰحِدࣱ فَٱسۡتَقِیمُوۤا۟ إِلَیۡهِ وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرُوهُۗ وَوَیۡلࣱ لِّلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ ۝٦

Say: I am only a human like you whilst it has been revealed to me that your god is a single god, so go straight to Him and ask Him for forgiveness, and woe to the idolaters.

qul innamā anā basharun mith'lukum yūḥā ilayya annamā ilāhukum ilāhun wāḥidun fa-is'taqīmū ilayhi wa-is'taghfirūhu wawaylun lil'mush'rikīn

ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡتُونَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَهُم بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ هُمۡ كَـٰفِرُونَ ۝٧

Those who do not give Zakat and reject the hereafter.

alladhīna lā yu'tūna l-zakata wahum bil-ākhirati hum kāfirūn

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمۡ أَجۡرٌ غَیۡرُ مَمۡنُونࣲ ۝٨

Those who believe and do good work, for them is a limitless reward.

inna alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti lahum ajrun ghayru mamnūni

2 The Warning

۞ قُلۡ أَىِٕنَّكُمۡ لَتَكۡفُرُونَ بِٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ فِی یَوۡمَیۡنِ وَتَجۡعَلُونَ لَهُۥۤ أَندَادࣰاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ رَبُّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٩

Say: do you reject the One who created the earth in two days and you set up partners for Him? That is the Lord of all worlds.

qul a-innakum latakfurūna bi-alladhī khalaqa l-arḍa fī yawmayni watajʿalūna lahu andādan dhālika rabbu l-ʿālamīn

وَجَعَلَ فِیهَا رَوَ ٰسِیَ مِن فَوۡقِهَا وَبَـٰرَكَ فِیهَا وَقَدَّرَ فِیهَاۤ أَقۡوَ ٰتَهَا فِیۤ أَرۡبَعَةِ أَیَّامࣲ سَوَاۤءࣰ لِّلسَّاۤىِٕلِینَ ۝١٠

And He placed stabilisers on it from above it and blessed it and arranged its provision in four days in fair measure for those who seek it.

wajaʿala fīhā rawāsiya min fawqihā wabāraka fīhā waqaddara fīhā aqwātahā fī arbaʿati ayyāmin sawāan lilssāilīn

ثُمَّ ٱسۡتَوَىٰۤ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ وَهِیَ دُخَانࣱ فَقَالَ لَهَا وَلِلۡأَرۡضِ ٱئۡتِیَا طَوۡعًا أَوۡ كَرۡهࣰا قَالَتَاۤ أَتَیۡنَا طَاۤىِٕعِینَ ۝١١

Then He moved to the heaven which was smoke and said to it and to the earth: come obediently or reluctantly; they said: we come obediently.

thumma is'tawā ilā l-samāi wahiya dukhānun faqāla lahā walil'arḍi i'tiyā ṭawʿan aw karhan qālatā ataynā ṭāiʿīn

فَقَضَىٰهُنَّ سَبۡعَ سَمَـٰوَاتࣲ فِی یَوۡمَیۡنِ وَأَوۡحَىٰ فِی كُلِّ سَمَاۤءٍ أَمۡرَهَاۚ وَزَیَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَاۤءَ ٱلدُّنۡیَا بِمَصَـٰبِیحَ وَحِفۡظࣰاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ تَقۡدِیرُ ٱلۡعَزِیزِ ٱلۡعَلِیمِ ۝١٢

Then He arranged it into seven heavens in two days and revealed to each heaven its affairs, and We adorned the lowest heaven with lights and protection, that is the arrangement of the mighty and knowing.

faqaḍāhunna sabʿa samāwātin fī yawmayni wa-awḥā fī kulli samāin amrahā wazayyannā l-samāa l-dun'yā bimaṣābīḥa waḥif'ẓan dhālika taqdīru l-ʿazīzi l-ʿalīm

فَإِنۡ أَعۡرَضُوا۟ فَقُلۡ أَنذَرۡتُكُمۡ صَـٰعِقَةࣰ مِّثۡلَ صَـٰعِقَةِ عَادࣲ وَثَمُودَ ۝١٣

Then if they turn away, say: I have warned you of being struck down like ´Ad and Thamud.

fa-in aʿraḍū faqul andhartukum ṣāʿiqatan mith'la ṣāʿiqati ʿādin wathamūd

إِذۡ جَاۤءَتۡهُمُ ٱلرُّسُلُ مِنۢ بَیۡنِ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ وَمِنۡ خَلۡفِهِمۡ أَلَّا تَعۡبُدُوۤا۟ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَۖ قَالُوا۟ لَوۡ شَاۤءَ رَبُّنَا لَأَنزَلَ مَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةࣰ فَإِنَّا بِمَاۤ أُرۡسِلۡتُم بِهِۦ كَـٰفِرُونَ ۝١٤

When their messengers came to them continuously (saying:) do not serve anything but Allah, they said: if our Lord pleased He would have sent angels, so we reject what you have been sent with.

idh jāathumu l-rusulu min bayni aydīhim wamin khalfihim allā taʿbudū illā l-laha qālū law shāa rabbunā la-anzala malāikatan fa-innā bimā ur'sil'tum bihi kāfirūn

فَأَمَّا عَادࣱ فَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ بِغَیۡرِ ٱلۡحَقِّ وَقَالُوا۟ مَنۡ أَشَدُّ مِنَّا قُوَّةًۖ أَوَ لَمۡ یَرَوۡا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَهُمۡ هُوَ أَشَدُّ مِنۡهُمۡ قُوَّةࣰۖ وَكَانُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا یَجۡحَدُونَ ۝١٥

Then as for ´Ad, they were arrogant on earth without right and said: who is stronger in power than us? Did they not consider that Allah who created them is stronger in power than them? And they disputed Our signs.

fa-ammā ʿādun fa-is'takbarū fī l-arḍi bighayri l-ḥaqi waqālū man ashaddu minnā quwwatan awalam yaraw anna l-laha alladhī khalaqahum huwa ashaddu min'hum quwwatan wakānū biāyātinā yajḥadūn

فَأَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ رِیحࣰا صَرۡصَرࣰا فِیۤ أَیَّامࣲ نَّحِسَاتࣲ لِّنُذِیقَهُمۡ عَذَابَ ٱلۡخِزۡیِ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَاۖ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ أَخۡزَىٰۖ وَهُمۡ لَا یُنصَرُونَ ۝١٦

Then We sent against them an icy wind over days of disaster to make them taste the punishment of humiliation in the worldly life, and the punishment of the hereafter is even more humiliating and they will not be helped.

fa-arsalnā ʿalayhim rīḥan ṣarṣaran fī ayyāmin naḥisātin linudhīqahum ʿadhāba l-khiz'yi fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā walaʿadhābu l-ākhirati akhzā wahum lā yunṣarūn

وَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَهَدَیۡنَـٰهُمۡ فَٱسۡتَحَبُّوا۟ ٱلۡعَمَىٰ عَلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰ فَأَخَذَتۡهُمۡ صَـٰعِقَةُ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡهُونِ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡسِبُونَ ۝١٧

And as for Thamud, We guided them but they preferred blindness to guidance, so the humiliating punishment struck them down on account of what they committed.

wa-ammā thamūdu fahadaynāhum fa-is'taḥabbū l-ʿamā ʿalā l-hudā fa-akhadhathum ṣāʿiqatu l-ʿadhābi l-hūni bimā kānū yaksibūn

وَنَجَّیۡنَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ یَتَّقُونَ ۝١٨

And We rescued those who believed and constantly bewared (of Allah).

wanajjaynā alladhīna āmanū wakānū yattaqūn

3 Man's Evidence against Himself

وَیَوۡمَ یُحۡشَرُ أَعۡدَاۤءُ ٱللَّهِ إِلَى ٱلنَّارِ فَهُمۡ یُوزَعُونَ ۝١٩

And on that day the enemies of Allah will be gathered to the fire and arranged into divisions.

wayawma yuḥ'sharu aʿdāu l-lahi ilā l-nāri fahum yūzaʿūn

حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا مَا جَاۤءُوهَا شَهِدَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ سَمۡعُهُمۡ وَأَبۡصَـٰرُهُمۡ وَجُلُودُهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٢٠

Until when they reach it, their hearing and eyesight and skins will witness against them as to what they did.

ḥattā idhā mā jāūhā shahida ʿalayhim samʿuhum wa-abṣāruhum wajulūduhum bimā kānū yaʿmalūn

وَقَالُوا۟ لِجُلُودِهِمۡ لِمَ شَهِدتُّمۡ عَلَیۡنَاۖ قَالُوۤا۟ أَنطَقَنَا ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَنطَقَ كُلَّ شَیۡءࣲۚ وَهُوَ خَلَقَكُمۡ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةࣲ وَإِلَیۡهِ تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝٢١

And they will say to their skins: why did you witness against us? They will say: Allah has given us speech, He who gives speech to everything, and He created you the first time and to Him you return.

waqālū lijulūdihim lima shahidttum ʿalaynā qālū anṭaqanā l-lahu alladhī anṭaqa kulla shayin wahuwa khalaqakum awwala marratin wa-ilayhi tur'jaʿūn

وَمَا كُنتُمۡ تَسۡتَتِرُونَ أَن یَشۡهَدَ عَلَیۡكُمۡ سَمۡعُكُمۡ وَلَاۤ أَبۡصَـٰرُكُمۡ وَلَا جُلُودُكُمۡ وَلَـٰكِن ظَنَنتُمۡ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یَعۡلَمُ كَثِیرࣰا مِّمَّا تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٢٢

And you did not expect that your hearing and eyesight and skins would witness against you, but you thought that Allah did not know much of what you did.

wamā kuntum tastatirūna an yashhada ʿalaykum samʿukum walā abṣārukum walā julūdukum walākin ẓanantum anna l-laha lā yaʿlamu kathīran mimmā taʿmalūn

وَذَ ٰلِكُمۡ ظَنُّكُمُ ٱلَّذِی ظَنَنتُم بِرَبِّكُمۡ أَرۡدَىٰكُمۡ فَأَصۡبَحۡتُم مِّنَ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرِینَ ۝٢٣

And this thought you held about your Lord has ruined you so you became losers.

wadhālikum ẓannukumu alladhī ẓanantum birabbikum ardākum fa-aṣbaḥtum mina l-khāsirīn

فَإِن یَصۡبِرُوا۟ فَٱلنَّارُ مَثۡوࣰى لَّهُمۡۖ وَإِن یَسۡتَعۡتِبُوا۟ فَمَا هُم مِّنَ ٱلۡمُعۡتَبِینَ ۝٢٤

So if they are patient, the fire is their home, and if they ask for reprieve, they will not be reprieved.

fa-in yaṣbirū fal-nāru mathwan lahum wa-in yastaʿtibū famā hum mina l-muʿ'tabīn

۞ وَقَیَّضۡنَا لَهُمۡ قُرَنَاۤءَ فَزَیَّنُوا۟ لَهُم مَّا بَیۡنَ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ وَمَا خَلۡفَهُمۡ وَحَقَّ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ فِیۤ أُمَمࣲ قَدۡ خَلَتۡ مِن قَبۡلِهِم مِّنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ وَٱلۡإِنسِۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ خَـٰسِرِینَ ۝٢٥

And We assigned them friends so that they made appealing to them what lay before them and what lay behind them, and the word came true for them which had gone before in communities of the Jinn and mankind that they would be losers.

waqayyaḍnā lahum quranāa fazayyanū lahum mā bayna aydīhim wamā khalfahum waḥaqqa ʿalayhimu l-qawlu fī umamin qad khalat min qablihim mina l-jini wal-insi innahum kānū khāsirīn

4 Believers strengthened

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَا تَسۡمَعُوا۟ لِهَـٰذَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ وَٱلۡغَوۡا۟ فِیهِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَغۡلِبُونَ ۝٢٦

And those who reject (the truth) say: do not listen to this Qur´an and belittle it so that you will prevail.

waqāla alladhīna kafarū lā tasmaʿū lihādhā l-qur'āni wal-ghaw fīhi laʿallakum taghlibūn

فَلَنُذِیقَنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ عَذَابࣰا شَدِیدࣰا وَلَنَجۡزِیَنَّهُمۡ أَسۡوَأَ ٱلَّذِی كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٢٧

So We will make those who reject (the truth) taste a severe punishment and will reward them in line with the worst they did.

falanudhīqanna alladhīna kafarū ʿadhāban shadīdan walanajziyannahum aswa-a alladhī kānū yaʿmalūn

ذَ ٰلِكَ جَزَاۤءُ أَعۡدَاۤءِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلنَّارُۖ لَهُمۡ فِیهَا دَارُ ٱلۡخُلۡدِ جَزَاۤءَۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا یَجۡحَدُونَ ۝٢٨

That is the punishment of the enemies of Allah, the fire, they will have an eternal home in it as a reward for having disputed Our signs.

dhālika jazāu aʿdāi l-lahi l-nāru lahum fīhā dāru l-khul'di jazāan bimā kānū biāyātinā yajḥadūn

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ رَبَّنَاۤ أَرِنَا ٱلَّذَیۡنِ أَضَلَّانَا مِنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ وَٱلۡإِنسِ نَجۡعَلۡهُمَا تَحۡتَ أَقۡدَامِنَا لِیَكُونَا مِنَ ٱلۡأَسۡفَلِینَ ۝٢٩

And those who reject (the truth) say: our Lord, show us those of the Jinn and mankind who lead us astray so that we trample them under our feet so that they are the lowest.

waqāla alladhīna kafarū rabbanā arinā alladhayni aḍallānā mina l-jini wal-insi najʿalhumā taḥta aqdāminā liyakūnā mina l-asfalīn

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ قَالُوا۟ رَبُّنَا ٱللَّهُ ثُمَّ ٱسۡتَقَـٰمُوا۟ تَتَنَزَّلُ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ أَلَّا تَخَافُوا۟ وَلَا تَحۡزَنُوا۟ وَأَبۡشِرُوا۟ بِٱلۡجَنَّةِ ٱلَّتِی كُنتُمۡ تُوعَدُونَ ۝٣٠

Those who say: our Lord is Allah, then uphold it, the angels descend on them, saying: fear not and worry not and look forward to the garden which you have been promised.

inna alladhīna qālū rabbunā l-lahu thumma is'taqāmū tatanazzalu ʿalayhimu l-malāikatu allā takhāfū walā taḥzanū wa-abshirū bil-janati allatī kuntum tūʿadūn

نَحۡنُ أَوۡلِیَاۤؤُكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَفِی ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِۖ وَلَكُمۡ فِیهَا مَا تَشۡتَهِیۤ أَنفُسُكُمۡ وَلَكُمۡ فِیهَا مَا تَدَّعُونَ ۝٣١

We are your protectors in this world and the hereafter and you will have there whatever your souls desire and you will have there whatever you ask for.

naḥnu awliyāukum fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā wafī l-ākhirati walakum fīhā mā tashtahī anfusukum walakum fīhā mā taddaʿūn

نُزُلࣰا مِّنۡ غَفُورࣲ رَّحِیمࣲ ۝٣٢

A gift from One who is forgiving and merciful.

nuzulan min ghafūrin raḥīmi

5 Effect of Revelation

وَمَنۡ أَحۡسَنُ قَوۡلࣰا مِّمَّن دَعَاۤ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحࣰا وَقَالَ إِنَّنِی مِنَ ٱلۡمُسۡلِمِینَ ۝٣٣

And who is better in speech than him who calls to Allah and does good and says: I am of those who have submitted (as Muslims).

waman aḥsanu qawlan mimman daʿā ilā l-lahi waʿamila ṣāliḥan waqāla innanī mina l-mus'limīn

وَلَا تَسۡتَوِی ٱلۡحَسَنَةُ وَلَا ٱلسَّیِّئَةُۚ ٱدۡفَعۡ بِٱلَّتِی هِیَ أَحۡسَنُ فَإِذَا ٱلَّذِی بَیۡنَكَ وَبَیۡنَهُۥ عَدَ ٰوَةࣱ كَأَنَّهُۥ وَلِیٌّ حَمِیمࣱ ۝٣٤

And the good deed and the bad deed are not the same; repel with that which is better, then the one with enmity between you and him will become like a dear friend.

walā tastawī l-ḥasanatu walā l-sayi-atu id'faʿ bi-allatī hiya aḥsanu fa-idhā alladhī baynaka wabaynahu ʿadāwatun ka-annahu waliyyun ḥamīmu

وَمَا یُلَقَّىٰهَاۤ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِینَ صَبَرُوا۟ وَمَا یُلَقَّىٰهَاۤ إِلَّا ذُو حَظٍّ عَظِیمࣲ ۝٣٥

And only those who are patient achieve this and only those with good fortune achieve this.

wamā yulaqqāhā illā alladhīna ṣabarū wamā yulaqqāhā illā dhū ḥaẓẓin ʿaẓīmi

وَإِمَّا یَنزَغَنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنِ نَزۡغࣱ فَٱسۡتَعِذۡ بِٱللَّهِۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِیعُ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ۝٣٦

And if you are in any way provoked by the devil then seek refuge in Allah, for He is who listens and knows.

wa-immā yanzaghannaka mina l-shayṭāni nazghun fa-is'taʿidh bil-lahi innahu huwa l-samīʿu l-ʿalīm

وَمِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِهِ ٱلَّیۡلُ وَٱلنَّهَارُ وَٱلشَّمۡسُ وَٱلۡقَمَرُۚ لَا تَسۡجُدُوا۟ لِلشَّمۡسِ وَلَا لِلۡقَمَرِ وَ̅ٱ̅سۡ̅جُ̅دُ̅و̅ا۟̅ ̅لِ̅لَّ̅هِ̅ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَهُنَّ إِن كُنتُمۡ إِیَّاهُ تَعۡبُدُونَ ۝٣٧

And of His signs are the night and the day and the sun and the moon; do not prostrate to the sun nor to the moon but prostrate to Allah who created them if you serve Him.

wamin āyātihi al-laylu wal-nahāru wal-shamsu wal-qamaru lā tasjudū lilshamsi walā lil'qamari wa-us'judū lillahi alladhī khalaqahunna in kuntum iyyāhu taʿbudūn

فَإِنِ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ فَٱلَّذِینَ عِندَ رَبِّكَ یُسَبِّحُونَ لَهُۥ بِٱلَّیۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ وَهُمۡ لَا یَسۡءَمُونَ ۝٣٨ ۩

And if they are arrogant, then those near your Lord glorify Him night and day and do not grow weary.

fa-ini is'takbarū fa-alladhīna ʿinda rabbika yusabbiḥūna lahu bi-al-layli wal-nahāri wahum lā yasamūn

وَمِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِهِۦۤ أَنَّكَ تَرَى ٱلۡأَرۡضَ خَـٰشِعَةࣰ فَإِذَاۤ أَنزَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهَا ٱلۡمَاۤءَ ٱهۡتَزَّتۡ وَرَبَتۡۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَحۡیَاهَا لَمُحۡیِ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰۤۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ قَدِیرٌ ۝٣٩

And of His signs is that you see the earth bare, then when We send water upon it, it comes to life and swells. For sure, the One who gives life to it will revive the dead, for He is able to do anything.

wamin āyātihi annaka tarā l-arḍa khāshiʿatan fa-idhā anzalnā ʿalayhā l-māa ih'tazzat warabat inna alladhī aḥyāhā lamuḥ'yī l-mawtā innahu ʿalā kulli shayin qadīru

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ یُلۡحِدُونَ فِیۤ ءَایَـٰتِنَا لَا یَخۡفَوۡنَ عَلَیۡنَاۤۗ أَفَمَن یُلۡقَىٰ فِی ٱلنَّارِ خَیۡرٌ أَم مَّن یَأۡتِیۤ ءَامِنࣰا یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِۚ ٱعۡمَلُوا۟ مَا شِئۡتُمۡ إِنَّهُۥ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ بَصِیرٌ ۝٤٠

Those who dispute Our signs are not hidden from Us. Is then he better who is thrown in the fire or he who arrives safe on the day of resurrection? Do as you please, for He sees what you do.

inna alladhīna yul'ḥidūna fī āyātinā lā yakhfawna ʿalaynā afaman yul'qā fī l-nāri khayrun am man yatī āminan yawma l-qiyāmati iʿ'malū mā shi'tum innahu bimā taʿmalūna baṣīru

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِٱلذِّكۡرِ لَمَّا جَاۤءَهُمۡۖ وَإِنَّهُۥ لَكِتَـٰبٌ عَزِیزࣱ ۝٤١

Those who reject the reminder when it comes to them: it is certainly a mighty book.

inna alladhīna kafarū bil-dhik'ri lammā jāahum wa-innahu lakitābun ʿazīzu

لَّا یَأۡتِیهِ ٱلۡبَـٰطِلُ مِنۢ بَیۡنِ یَدَیۡهِ وَلَا مِنۡ خَلۡفِهِۦۖ تَنزِیلࣱ مِّنۡ حَكِیمٍ حَمِیدࣲ ۝٤٢

Falsehood does not reach it from before or behind, it is a revelation from One who is wise and praiseworthy.

lā yatīhi l-bāṭilu min bayni yadayhi walā min khalfihi tanzīlun min ḥakīmin ḥamīdi

مَّا یُقَالُ لَكَ إِلَّا مَا قَدۡ قِیلَ لِلرُّسُلِ مِن قَبۡلِكَۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَذُو مَغۡفِرَةࣲ وَذُو عِقَابٍ أَلِیمࣲ ۝٤٣

You are only told what messengers before you were told, for your Lord is full of forgiveness and full of painful punishment.

mā yuqālu laka illā mā qad qīla lilrrusuli min qablika inna rabbaka ladhū maghfiratin wadhū ʿiqābin alīmi

وَلَوۡ جَعَلۡنَـٰهُ قُرۡءَانًا أَعۡجَمِیࣰّا لَّقَالُوا۟ لَوۡلَا فُصِّلَتۡ ءَایَـٰتُهُۥۤۖ ءَا۬عۡجَمِیࣱّ وَعَرَبِیࣱّۗ قُلۡ هُوَ لِلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ هُدࣰى وَشِفَاۤءࣱۚ وَٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ فِیۤ ءَاذَانِهِمۡ وَقۡرࣱ وَهُوَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ عَمًىۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ یُنَادَوۡنَ مِن مَّكَانِۭ بَعِیدࣲ ۝٤٤

And had We made it a foreign reading (Qur´an) they would have said: why have its verses not been explained? Foreign and Arab? Say: it is a guidance and healing for those who believe, and those who do not believe, there is a weight upon their ears and they are blind to it, those will be called from a distant place.

walaw jaʿalnāhu qur'ānan aʿjamiyyan laqālū lawlā fuṣṣilat āyātuhu āʿ'jamiyyun waʿarabiyyun qul huwa lilladhīna āmanū hudan washifāon wa-alladhīna lā yu'minūna fī ādhānihim waqrun wahuwa ʿalayhim ʿaman ulāika yunādawna min makānin baʿīdi

6 Gradual Spread of Truth

وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَیۡنَا مُوسَى ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ فَٱخۡتُلِفَ فِیهِۚ وَلَوۡلَا كَلِمَةࣱ سَبَقَتۡ مِن رَّبِّكَ لَقُضِیَ بَیۡنَهُمۡۚ وَإِنَّهُمۡ لَفِی شَكࣲّ مِّنۡهُ مُرِیبࣲ ۝٤٥

And We already gave Musa (Moses) the book, then they differed about it, and had not a word gone before from your Lord, it would have been decided between them, and they are indeed in severe doubt about it.

walaqad ātaynā mūsā l-kitāba fa-ukh'tulifa fīhi walawlā kalimatun sabaqat min rabbika laquḍiya baynahum wa-innahum lafī shakkin min'hu murībi

مَّنۡ عَمِلَ صَـٰلِحࣰا فَلِنَفۡسِهِۦۖ وَمَنۡ أَسَاۤءَ فَعَلَیۡهَاۗ وَمَا رَبُّكَ بِظَلَّـٰمࣲ لِّلۡعَبِیدِ ۝٤٦

Whoever does good, it is for himself, and who does bad, it is against himself, and your Lord does not wrong His servants.

man ʿamila ṣāliḥan falinafsihi waman asāa faʿalayhā wamā rabbuka biẓallāmin lil'ʿabīd

۞ إِلَیۡهِ یُرَدُّ عِلۡمُ ٱلسَّاعَةِۚ وَمَا تَخۡرُجُ مِن ثَمَرَ ٰتࣲ مِّنۡ أَكۡمَامِهَا وَمَا تَحۡمِلُ مِنۡ أُنثَىٰ وَلَا تَضَعُ إِلَّا بِعِلۡمِهِۦۚ وَیَوۡمَ یُنَادِیهِمۡ أَیۡنَ شُرَكَاۤءِی قَالُوۤا۟ ءَاذَنَّـٰكَ مَامِنَّا مِن شَهِیدࣲ ۝٤٧

To Him is the knowledge of the hour referred, and no fruit emerges from its shell and no female is pregnant or gives birth but with His knowledge, and on the day they will be asked: where are your associates? they will say: let us be, we have no evidence.

ilayhi yuraddu ʿil'mu l-sāʿati wamā takhruju min thamarātin min akmāmihā wamā taḥmilu min unthā walā taḍaʿu illā biʿil'mihi wayawma yunādīhim ayna shurakāī qālū ādhannāka mā minnā min shahīdi

وَضَلَّ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ یَدۡعُونَ مِن قَبۡلُۖ وَظَنُّوا۟ مَا لَهُم مِّن مَّحِیصࣲ ۝٤٨

And what they called on before deserted them, and they realise they have no escape.

waḍalla ʿanhum mā kānū yadʿūna min qablu waẓannū mā lahum min maḥīṣi

لَّا یَسۡءَمُ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ مِن دُعَاۤءِ ٱلۡخَیۡرِ وَإِن مَّسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ فَیَءُوسࣱ قَنُوطࣱ ۝٤٩

Man does not grow weary of calling for good, and when harm afflicts him, he is weary and depressed.

lā yasamu l-insānu min duʿāi l-khayri wa-in massahu l-sharu fayaūsun qanūṭu

وَلَىِٕنۡ أَذَقۡنَـٰهُ رَحۡمَةࣰ مِّنَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ ضَرَّاۤءَ مَسَّتۡهُ لَیَقُولَنَّ هَـٰذَا لِی وَمَاۤ أَظُنُّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ قَاۤىِٕمَةࣰ وَلَىِٕن رُّجِعۡتُ إِلَىٰ رَبِّیۤ إِنَّ لِی عِندَهُۥ لَلۡحُسۡنَىٰۚ فَلَنُنَبِّئَنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَلَنُذِیقَنَّهُم مِّنۡ عَذَابٍ غَلِیظࣲ ۝٥٠

And if We make him taste mercy from Us after harm afflicted him, he is likely to say: this is for me and I don´t think the hour will happen, and if I were to return to my Lord, I would find even better with Him, then We will inform those who rejected (the truth) of what they did and will make them taste an unrelenting punishment.

wala-in adhaqnāhu raḥmatan minnā min baʿdi ḍarrāa massathu layaqūlanna hādhā lī wamā aẓunnu l-sāʿata qāimatan wala-in rujiʿ'tu ilā rabbī inna lī ʿindahu lalḥus'nā falanunabbi-anna alladhīna kafarū bimā ʿamilū walanudhīqannahum min ʿadhābin ghalīẓi

وَإِذَاۤ أَنۡعَمۡنَا عَلَى ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنِ أَعۡرَضَ وَنَءَا بِجَانِبِهِۦ وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ فَذُو دُعَاۤءٍ عَرِیضࣲ ۝٥١

And when We give blessings to man, he rebels and keeps aside, and when harm afflicts him, he prays excessively.

wa-idhā anʿamnā ʿalā l-insāni aʿraḍa wanaā bijānibihi wa-idhā massahu l-sharu fadhū duʿāin ʿarīḍi

قُلۡ أَرَءَیۡتُمۡ إِن كَانَ مِنۡ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ كَفَرۡتُم بِهِۦ مَنۡ أَضَلُّ مِمَّنۡ هُوَ فِی شِقَاقِۭ بَعِیدࣲ ۝٥٢

Say: have you considered that if it is from Allah and then you reject it, who is more astray than him who is far away (from the truth)?

qul ara-aytum in kāna min ʿindi l-lahi thumma kafartum bihi man aḍallu mimman huwa fī shiqāqin baʿīdi

سَنُرِیهِمۡ ءَایَـٰتِنَا فِی ٱلۡءَافَاقِ وَفِیۤ أَنفُسِهِمۡ حَتَّىٰ یَتَبَیَّنَ لَهُمۡ أَنَّهُ ٱلۡحَقُّۗ أَوَ لَمۡ یَكۡفِ بِرَبِّكَ أَنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ شَهِیدٌ ۝٥٣

We will show them Our signs in the cosmos and in themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth. Is it not sufficient that your Lord is a witness to everything?

sanurīhim āyātinā fī l-āfāqi wafī anfusihim ḥattā yatabayyana lahum annahu l-ḥaqu awalam yakfi birabbika annahu ʿalā kulli shayin shahīdu

أَلَاۤ إِنَّهُمۡ فِی مِرۡیَةࣲ مِّن لِّقَاۤءِ رَبِّهِمۡۗ أَلَاۤ إِنَّهُۥ بِكُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ مُّحِیطُۢ ۝٥٤

But they are in doubt about meeting their Lord, yet He surrounds everything.

alā innahum fī mir'yatin min liqāi rabbihim alā innahu bikulli shayin muḥīṭu
