Your God is the One God. As for those who deny the life to come, their hearts refuse to admit the truth and they are arrogant

Tafsir Commentary
None is to be worshipped except Allah
Allah tells us that there is none to be worshipped besides Him, the One, the Unique, the Lone, the Self-Sufficient. He tells us that the hearts of the disbelievers deny that and are astonished by that:
أَجَعَلَ الاٌّلِهَةَ إِلَـهاً وَحِداً إِنَّ هَـذَا لَشَىْءٌ عُجَابٌ
("Has he made the gods (all) into One God! Verily, this is a curious thing!") (38:5).
وَإِذَا ذُكِرَ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ اشْمَأَزَّتْ قُلُوبُ الَّذِينَ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالاٌّخِرَةِ وَإِذَا ذُكِرَ الَّذِينَ مِن دُونِهِ إِذَا هُمْ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ
(And when Allah alone is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter are filled with disgust, and when those besides Him are mentioned, behold, they rejoice!) (39:45).
وَهُم مُّسْتَكْبِرُونَ
(and they are proud) meaning they are too proud to worship Allah, and their hearts reject the idea of singling Him out, as Allah says:
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِى سَيَدْخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ دَخِرِينَ
(Verily! Those who scorn My worship they will surely enter Hell in humiliation!) 40:60 So here, Allah says;
لاَ جَرَمَ
(Certainly), meaning truly,
أَنَّ اللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ
(Allah knows what they conceal and what they reveal.) meaning He will requite them for that in full.
إِنَّهُ لاَ يُحِبُّ الْمُسْتَكْبِرِينَ
(Truly, He does not like the proud.)
Your God the One deserving of your worship is One God without any equal in terms of His essence or His attributes and this is God exalted He be. But as for those who do not believe in the Hereafter their hearts are in denial rejecting the Oneness of God and they are arrogant scorning to believe in it.
إلهكم المستحق وحده للعبادة هو الله الإله الواحد، فالذين لا يؤمنون بالبعث قلوبهم جاحدة وحدانيته سبحانه؛ لعدم خوفهم من عقابه، فهم متكبرون عن قبول الحق، وعبادة الله وحده.
يخبر تعالى أنه لا إله إلا هو الواحد الأحد الفرد الصمد وأخبر أن الكافرين تنكر قلوبهم ذلك كما أخبر عنهم متعجبين من ذلك "أجعل الآلهة إلها واحدا إن هذا لشيء عجاب" وقال تعالى "وإذا ذكر الله وحده اشمأزت قلوب الذين لا يؤمنون بالآخرة وإذا ذكر الذين من دونه إذا هم يستبشرون" وقوله "وهم مستكبرون" أي عن عبادة الله مع إنكار قلوبهم لتوحيده كما قال "إن الذين يستكبرون عن عبادتي سيدخلون جهنم داخرين".
وبعد أن أبطل - سبحانه - عبادة غيره بهذا الأسلوب المنطقى الحكيم ، صرح بأنه لا معبود بحق سواه ، فقال : ( إلهكم إله وَاحِدٌ ) .أى إلهكم المستحق للعبادة والطاعة هو إله واحد لا شريك له ، لا فى ذاته ولا فى صفاته : فأخلصوا له العبادة ، ولا تجعلوا له شركاء .ثم بين - سبحانه - الأسباب التى جعلت المشركين يصرون على كفرهم ويستحبون العمى على الهدى ، فقال - تعالى - : ( فالذين لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بالآخرة قُلُوبُهُم مُّنكِرَةٌ وَهُم مُّسْتَكْبِرُونَ ) .أى : فالكافرون الذين لا يؤمنون بالآخرة ، وما فيها من ثواب وعقاب قلوبهم منكرة للحق ، جاحدة لنعم الله ، منصرفة عن وحدانية الله - تعالى - وعن الأدلة الدالة عليها ، وحالهم فوق ذلك أنهم مستكبرون مغرورون ، لا يستمعون إلى موعظة واعظ ، ولا إلى إرشاد مرشد . ومتى استولت على إنسان هاتان الصفتان - الجحود والاستكبار - ، حالفه البوار والخسران ، وآثر سبيل الغى على سبيل الرشد .والتعبير عن المشركين بالموصول وصلته ( فالذين لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بالآخرة .
يقول تعالى ذكره: معبودكم الذي يستحقّ عليكم العبادة ، وإفراد الطاعة له دون سائر الأشياء: معبود واحد، لأنه لا تصلح العبادة إلا له، فأفردوا له الطاعة وأخلصوا له العبادة ، ولا تجعلوا معه شريكا سواه ( فَالَّذِينَ لا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالآخِرَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ مُنْكِرَةٌ ) يقول تعالى ذكره: فالذين لا يصدّقون بوعد الله ووعيده ، ولا يقرّون بالمعاد إليه بعد الممات قلوبهم منكرة ، يقول تعالى ذكره: مستنكرة لما نقص عليهم من قدرة الله وعظمته ، وجميل نعمه عليهم، وأن العبادة لا تصلح إلا له ، والألوهة ليست لشيء غيره يقول: وهم مستكبرون عن إفراد الله بالألوهة ، والإقرار له بالوحدانية، اتباعا منهم لما مضى عليه من الشرك بالله أسلافهم.كما حدثنا بشر، قال: ثنا يزيد، قال: ثنا سعيد، عن قتادة، قوله ( فَالَّذِينَ لا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالآخِرَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ مُنْكِرَةٌ ) لهذا الحديث الذي مضى، وهم مستكبرون عنه.
قوله تعالى : ( إلهكم إله واحد فالذين لا يؤمنون بالآخرة قلوبهم منكرة ) جاحدة ، ( وهم مستكبرون ) متعظمون .
استئناف نتيجةً لحاصل المحاجّة الماضية ، أي قد ثبت بما تقدّم إبطال إلهية غير الله ، فثبت أن لكم إلهاً واحداً لا شريك له ، ولكون ما مضى كافياً في إبطال إنكارهم الوحدانية عُرّيت الجملة عن المؤكّد تنزيلاً لحال المشركين بعدما سمعوا من الأدلّة منزلة من لا يظن به أنه يتردّد في ذلك بخلاف قوله تعالى : { إن إلهكم إله واحد } في سورة البقرة ( 163 ) خطاب لأهل الكتاب .وتفرّع عليه الإخبار بجملة { فالذين لا يؤمنون بالآخرة قلوبهم منكرة } ، وهو تفريع الأخبار عن الأخبار ، أي يتفرّع على هذه القضية القاطعة بما تقدّم من الدّلائل أنكم قلوبكم منكرة وأنتم مستكبرون وأن ذلك ناشىء عن عدم إيمانكم بالآخرة .والتعبير عن المشركين بالموصول وصلته «الذين لا يؤمنون بالآخرة» لأنهم قد عُرفوا بمضمون الصّلة واشتهروا بها اشتهارَ لمز وتنقيص عند المؤمنين ، كقوله : { وقال الذين لا يرجون لقاءنا لولا أنزل علينا الملائكة أو نرى ربنا } [ سورة الفرقان : 21 ] ، وللإيماء إلى أن لهذه الصّلة ارتباطاً باستمرارهم على العناد ، لأن انتفاء إيمانهم بالبعث والحساب قد جرّأهم على نبذ دعوة الإسلام ظهرياً فلم يتوقعوا مؤاخذة على نبذها ، على تقدير أنها حقّ فينظروا في دلائل أحقّيتها مع أنهم يؤمنون بالله ولكنّهم لا يؤمنون بأنه أعدّ للناس يوم جزاء على أعمالهم .ومعنى { قلوبهم منكرة } جاحدة بما هو واقع . استعمل الإنكار في جحد الأمر الواقع لأنه ضدّ الإقرار . فحذف متعلق { منكرة } لدلالة المقام عليه ، أي منكرة للوحدانية .وعبر بالجملة الاسمية { قلوبهم منكرة } للدلالة على أن الإنكار ثابت لهم دائم لاستمرارهم على الإنكار بعد ما تبين من الأدلّة . وذلك يفيد أن الإنكار صار لهم سجيّة وتمكّن من نفوسهم لأنهم ضروا به من حيث إنهم لا يؤمنون بالآخرة فاعتادوا عدم التبصّر في العواقب .وكذلك جملة { وهم مستكبرون } بنيت على الاسمية للدّلالة على تمكّن الاستكبار منهم . وقد خولف ذلك في آية سورة الفرقان ( 21 ) { لقد استكبروا في أنفسهم وعتوا عتواً كبيراً } لأن تلك الآية لم تتقدّمها دلائل على الوحدانية مثل الدلائل المذكورة في هذه الآية .
{ إِلَهُكُمْ إِلَهٌ وَاحِدٌ } وهو الله الأحد الفرد الصمد الذي لم يلد ولم يكن له كفوا أحد. فأهل الإيمان والعقول أجلته قلوبهم وعظمته، وأحبته حبا عظيما، وصرفوا له كل ما استطاعوا من القربات البدنية والمالية، وأعمال القلوب وأعمال الجوارح، وأثنوا عليه بأسمائه الحسنى وصفاته وأفعاله المقدسة، { فَالَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ مُنْكِرَةٌ } لهذا الأمر العظيم الذي لا ينكره إلا أعظم الخلق جهلا وعنادا وهو: توحيد الله { وَهُمْ مُسْتَكْبِرُونَ } عن عبادته.
قوله تعالى : إلهكم إله واحد فالذين لا يؤمنون بالآخرة قلوبهم منكرة وهم مستكبرونقوله تعالى : إلهكم إله واحد لما بين استحالة الإشراك بالله - تعالى - بين أن المعبود واحد لا رب غيره ولا معبود سواه .فالذين لا يؤمنون بالآخرة قلوبهم منكرة أي لا تقبل الوعظ ولا ينفع فيها الذكر ، وهذا رد على القدرية .وهم مستكبرون متكبرون متعظمون عن قبول الحق . وقد تقدم في ( البقرة ) معنى الاستكبار
As a matter of course, polytheists start worshipping their self-devised saints of previous generations, treating them as holy and close to God, though such worship is absolutely foolish. These great men lying dead in their graves, to whom people pray for the fulfilment of their needs, are themselves in the interim stage after death before Judgement Day. In fact, they do not even know when they will be raised from the dead, not to speak of their being able to help others. ‘They are arrogant’ does not mean that they are arrogant towards God. Who would have the courage to set himself up against the Creator of heaven and earth? In fact, this means that they are haughty towards God’s messenger and not towards God Himself. The subject of God who sets out to be a preacher of the unity of God (tawhid) is lesser in status from the worldly point of view in comparison with his addressees. The addressee being a proponent of the traditional religion, would enjoy a high position in the scheme of things at the time, while the bringer of Truth, being the representative of the ‘new religion’, would be devoid of such status and position. From the material point of view he, therefore, appears to the addressees to be inferior to themselves. So they develop a superiority complex and ignore what he has to say, thinking that his word carries no weight. This is a case of pride on the part of such people, but they present their case as if it were one of principles and ideology. But God very well knows the inner workings of people’s minds and will treat them in accordance not with their mouthings but with what they really are as human beings.
Commentary
Verses appearing immediately earlier described the many blessings of Allah Ta` ala in details, proved that He alone is their Creator and established that He is unique in this matter. Now, in the present verses, there comes an admonition against the failure of people to recognize that there is a fact behind the statement describing all these blessings - and that is Tauhid, the Oneness of Allah Ta’ ala, except whom there is none worthy of worship. Therefore, it was said: When it stands proved that Allah alone made the heavens and the earth, made the mountains and rivers, vegetation and animals, trees and plants with their fruits and flowers, how can that most sacred Being that is the Creator of all these things become, for no reason, like idols and icons which cannot create anything? Why would you not understand something so elementary?
(Your God is One God) He knows this, not your idols. (But as for those who believe not in the Hereafter) those who do not believe in resurrection after death (their hearts refuse to know) acknowledge Allah's divine Oneness, (for they are proud) too proud to believe.
