Rebuking the People of Hell, their admission of Their Wretchedness and their Request to be brought out of Hell This is a rebuke from Allah to the people of Hell for the disbelief, sins, unlawful deeds and evil actions that they committed, because of which they were doomed. Allah says: أَلَمْ تَكُنْ ءَايَـتِى تُتْلَى عَلَيْكُمْ فَكُنْتُمْ بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ ("Were not My Ayat recited to you, and then you used to deny them") meaning, `I sent Messengers to you, and revealed Books, and cleared the confusion for you, so you have no excuse.' This is like the Ayat: لِئَلاَّ يَكُونَ لِلنَّاسِ عَلَى اللَّهِ حُجَّةٌ بَعْدَ الرُّسُلِ (in order that mankind should have no plea against Allah after the Messengers) 4:165 وَمَا كُنَّا مُعَذِّبِينَ حَتَّى نَبْعَثَ رَسُولاً (And We never punish until We have sent a Messenger) 17:15. كُلَّمَا أُلْقِىَ فِيهَا فَوْجٌ سَأَلَهُمْ خَزَنَتُهَآ أَلَمْ يَأْتِكُمْ نَذِيرٌ (Every time a group is cast therein, its keeper will ask: "Did no warner come to you") Until His saying; فَسُحْقًا لاًّصْحَـبِ السَّعِيرِ (So, away with the dwellers of the blazing Fire!) They will say: رَبَّنَا غَلَبَتْ عَلَيْنَا شِقْوَتُنَا وَكُنَّا قَوْماً ضَآلِّينَ (Our Lord! Our wretchedness overcame us, and we were (an) erring people.) meaning, evidence has been established against us, but we were so doomed that we could not follow it, so we went astray and were not guided. Then they will say: رَبَّنَآ أَخْرِجْنَا مِنْهَا فَإِنْ عُدْنَا فَإِنَّا ظَـلِمُونَ (Our Lord! Bring us out of this. If ever we return (to evil), then indeed we shall be wrongdoers.) meaning, send us back to the world, and if we go back to what we used to do before, then we will indeed be wrongdoers who deserve punishment. This is like the Ayat: فَاعْتَرَفْنَا بِذُنُوبِنَا فَهَلْ إِلَى خُرُوجٍ مِّن سَبِيلٍ (Now we confess our sins, then is there any way to get out) Until His statement: فَالْحُكْمُ للَّهِ الْعَلِـىِّ الْكَبِيرِ (So the judgment is only with Allah, the Most High, the Most Great!") 40:11-12 meaning, there will be no way out, because you used to associate partners in worship with Allah whereas the believers worshipped Him Alone.
‘Were not My signs in the Qur’ān recited to you were you not threatened therewith and you used to deny them?’
يقال لهم: ألم تكن آيات القرآن تتلى عليكم في الدنيا، فكنتم بها تكذبون؟
هذا تقريع من الله وتوبيخ لأهل النار على ما ارتكبوه من الكفر والمآثم والمحارم والعظائم التي أوبقتهم في ذلك فقال تعالى " ألم تكن آياتي تتلى عليكم فكنتم بها تكذبون " أي قد أرسلت إليكم الرسل وأنزلت عليكم الكتب وأزلت شبهكم ولم يبق لكم حجة كما قال تعالي " لئلا يكون للناس على الله حجة بعد الرسل " وقال تعالى " وما كنا معذبين حتى نبعث رسولا " وقال تعالى " كلما ألقي فيها فوج سألهم خزنتها ألم يأتكم نذير- إلى قوله - فسحقا لأصحاب السعير ".
ثم يقال لهم بعد كل هذا العذاب المهين على سبيل التقريع والتوبيخ : ( أَلَمْ تَكُنْ آيَاتِي ) الدالة على وحدانيتى وقدرتى وصدق رسلى ( تتلى عَلَيْكُمْ ) فى الدنيا على ألسنة هؤلاء الرسل الكرام ( فَكُنْتُمْ بِهَا ) أى : بهذه الآيات ( تُكَذِّبُونَ ) هؤلاء الرسل فيما جاؤوكم به من عندى من هدايات وإرشادات .
يقول تعالى ذكره: يقال لهم ( أَلَمْ تَكُنْ آيَاتِي تُتْلَى عَلَيْكُمْ ) يعني آيات القرآن تتلى عليكم في الدنيا( فَكُنْتُمْ بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ ) وترك ذكر يقال؛ لدلالة الكلام عليه ( قَالُوا رَبَّنَا غَلَبَتْ عَلَيْنَا شِقْوَتُنَا ) .
قوله عز وجل : ( ألم تكن آياتي تتلى عليكم ) يعني القرآن ، تخوفون بها ، ( فكنتم بها تكذبون)
أَلَمْ تَكُنْ آَيَاتِي تُتْلَى عَلَيْكُمْ فَكُنْتُمْ بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ (105) جملة { ألم تكن آياتي تتلى عليكم } مقول قول محذوف ، أي يقال لهم يومئذ . وهذا تعرض لبعض ما يجري يومئذ . والآيات : آيات القرآن بقرينة قوله { تتلى عليكم } وقوله { فكنتم بها تكذبون } حملاً على ظاهر اللفظ .والتلاوة : القراءة . وقد تقدم عند قوله تعالى : { واتبعوا ما تتلوا الشياطين على ملك سليمان } في البقرة ( 102 ) ، وقوله : إذا تليت عليهم آياته زادتهم إيماناً في سورة الأنفال ( 2 ) . والاستفهام إنكار .والغلب حقيقته : الاستيلاء والقهر . وأطلق هنا على التلبس بالشقوة دون التلبس بالسعادة .
فيقال لهم - توبيخا ولوما -: { أَلَمْ تَكُنْ آيَاتِي تُتْلَى عَلَيْكُمْ } تدعون بها، لتؤمنوا، وتعرض عليكم لتنظروا، { فَكُنْتُمْ بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ } ظلما منكم وعنادا، وهي آيات بينات، دالات على الحق والباطل، مبينات للمحق والمبطل
الآيات يريد بها القرآن ." تتلى عليكم " أي تقرأ .
After death, no one will be given the chance to come back and live rightfully in the present world. The true test of a man is not in his acceptance of the realities after seeing them, but in his acceptance of them while they are unseen. A student is tested during the examination and not after it is over.
وَهُمْ فِيهَا كَالِحُونَ And they will be disfigured therein - 23:104). The word is used for a person whose lips do not meet and leave his teeth fully exposed, which looks very ugly. It is said that the upper lip of a person consigned to Hell will be drawn up and his lower lip will be drawn down so that his teeth will remain visible at all times.
Allah says to them: (Were not My revelations) the Qur'an (recited unto you) in the life of the world, (and then ye used to deny them) and you used to disbelieve in the revelations?
