هُوَ ٱلَّذِی یُسَیِّرُكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡبَرِّ وَٱلۡبَحۡرِۖ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا كُنتُمۡ فِی ٱلۡفُلۡكِ وَجَرَیۡنَ بِهِم بِرِیحࣲ طَیِّبَةࣲ وَفَرِحُوا۟ بِهَا جَاۤءَتۡهَا رِیحٌ عَاصِفࣱ وَجَاۤءَهُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡجُ مِن كُلِّ مَكَانࣲ وَظَنُّوۤا۟ أَنَّهُمۡ أُحِیطَ بِهِمۡ دَعَوُا۟ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡلِصِینَ لَهُ ٱلدِّینَ لَىِٕنۡ أَنجَیۡتَنَا مِنۡ هَـٰذِهِۦ لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلشَّـٰكِرِینَ ۝٢٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): It is He who enables you to travel on land and sea until, when you are in ships and they sail with them by a good wind and they rejoice therein, there comes a storm wind and the waves come upon them from everywhere and they assume that they are surrounded, supplicating Allah , sincere to Him in religion, "If You should save us from this, we will surely be among the thankful."
Abdel Haleem: It is He who enables you to travel on land and sea until, when you are sailing on ships and rejoicing in the favouring wind, a storm arrives: waves come at those on board from all sides and they feel there is no escape. Then they pray to God, professing sincere devotion to Him, ‘If You save us from this we shall be truly thankful.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: He it is Who maketh you to go on the land and the sea till, when ye are in the ships and they sail with them with a fair breeze and they are glad therein, a storm-wind reacheth them and the wave cometh unto them from every side and they deem that they are overwhelmed therein; (then) they cry unto Allah, making their faith pure for Him only: If Thou deliver us from this, we truly will be of the thankful
Jonah 10:58 Verb
قُلۡ بِفَضۡلِ ٱللَّهِ وَبِرَحۡمَتِهِۦ فَبِذَ ٰلِكَ فَلۡیَفۡرَحُوا۟ هُوَ خَیۡرࣱ مِّمَّا یَجۡمَعُونَ ۝٥٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Say, "In the bounty of Allah and in His mercy - in that let them rejoice; it is better than what they accumulate."
Abdel Haleem: Say [Prophet], ‘In God’s grace and mercy let them rejoice: these are better than all they accumulate.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Say: In the bounty of Allah and in His mercy: therein let them rejoice. It is better than what they hoard
The Thunder 13:26 Verb
ٱللَّهُ یَبۡسُطُ ٱلرِّزۡقَ لِمَن یَشَاۤءُ وَیَقۡدِرُۚ وَفَرِحُوا۟ بِٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَمَا ٱلۡحَیَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡیَا فِی ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ إِلَّا مَتَـٰعࣱ ۝٢٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Allah extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]. And they rejoice in the worldly life, while the worldly life is not, compared to the Hereafter, except [brief] enjoyment
Abdel Haleem: God gives abundantly to whoever He will, and sparingly to whoever He will- and though they may revel in the life of this world, it is but a fleeting comfort compared with the Life to come
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Allah enlargeth livelihood for whom He will, and straiteneth (it for whom He will); and they rejoice in the life of the world, whereas the life of the world is but brief comfort as compared with the Hereafter
The Thunder 13:36 Verb
وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُمُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ یَفۡرَحُونَ بِمَاۤ أُنزِلَ إِلَیۡكَۖ وَمِنَ ٱلۡأَحۡزَابِ مَن یُنكِرُ بَعۡضَهُۥۚ قُلۡ إِنَّمَاۤ أُمِرۡتُ أَنۡ أَعۡبُدَ ٱللَّهَ وَلَاۤ أُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦۤۚ إِلَیۡهِ أَدۡعُوا۟ وَإِلَیۡهِ مَءَابِ ۝٣٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And [the believers among] those to whom We have given the [previous] Scripture rejoice at what has been revealed to you, [O Muhammad], but among the [opposing] factions are those who deny part of it. Say, "I have only been commanded to worship Allah and not associate [anything] with Him. To Him I invite, and to Him is my return."
Abdel Haleem: Those to whom We sent the Scripture rejoice in what has been revealed to you [Prophet]; some factions deny parts of it. Say, ‘I am commanded to worship God, and not join anything with Him in worship: to Him I call [others] and to Him I shall return.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Those unto whom We gave the Scripture rejoice in that which is revealed unto thee. And of the clans there are who deny some of it. Say: I am commanded only that I serve Allah and ascribe unto Him no partner. Unto Him I cry, and unto Him is my return
The Ant, The Ants 27:36 Verb
فَلَمَّا جَاۤءَ سُلَیۡمَـٰنَ قَالَ أَتُمِدُّونَنِ بِمَالࣲ فَمَاۤ ءَاتَىٰنِۦَ ٱللَّهُ خَیۡرࣱ مِّمَّاۤ ءَاتَىٰكُمۚ بَلۡ أَنتُم بِهَدِیَّتِكُمۡ تَفۡرَحُونَ ۝٣٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So when they came to Solomon, he said, "Do you provide me with wealth? But what Allah has given me is better than what He has given you. Rather, it is you who rejoice in your gift
Abdel Haleem: When her envoy came to Solomon, Solomon said, ‘What! Are you offering me wealth? What God has given me is better than what He has given you, though you rejoice in this gift of yours
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: So when (the envoy) came unto Solomon, (the King) said: What! Would ye help me with wealth? But that which Allah hath given me is better than that which He hath given you. Nay it is ye (and not I) who exult in your gift
The Story, Stories, The Narrative 28:76 Verb
۞ إِنَّ قَـٰرُونَ كَانَ مِن قَوۡمِ مُوسَىٰ فَبَغَىٰ عَلَیۡهِمۡۖ وَءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُ مِنَ ٱلۡكُنُوزِ مَاۤ إِنَّ مَفَاتِحَهُۥ لَتَنُوۤأُ بِٱلۡعُصۡبَةِ أُو۟لِی ٱلۡقُوَّةِ إِذۡ قَالَ لَهُۥ قَوۡمُهُۥ لَا تَفۡرَحۡۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یُحِبُّ ٱلۡفَرِحِینَ ۝٧٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Indeed, Qarun was from the people of Moses, but he tyrannized them. And We gave him of treasures whose keys would burden a band of strong men; thereupon his people said to him, "Do not exult. Indeed, Allah does not like the exultant
Abdel Haleem: Qarun was one of Moses’ people, but he oppressed them. We had given him such treasures that even their keys would have weighed down a whole company of strong men. His people said to him, ‘Do not gloat, for God does not like people who gloat
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Now Korah was of Moses' folk, but he oppressed them; and We gave him so much treasure that the stores thereof would verily have been a burden for a troop of mighty men. When his own folk said unto him: Exult not; lo! Allah loveth not the exultant
The Romans, The Byzantines 30:36 Verb
وَإِذَاۤ أَذَقۡنَا ٱلنَّاسَ رَحۡمَةࣰ فَرِحُوا۟ بِهَاۖ وَإِن تُصِبۡهُمۡ سَیِّئَةُۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتۡ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ إِذَا هُمۡ یَقۡنَطُونَ ۝٣٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And when We let the people taste mercy, they rejoice therein, but if evil afflicts them for what their hands have put forth, immediately they despair
Abdel Haleem: When We give people a taste of Our blessing, they rejoice, but when something bad happens to them- because of their own actions- they fall into utter despair
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And when We cause mankind to taste of mercy they rejoice therein; but if an evil thing befall them as the consequence of their own deeds, lo! they are in despair
The Romans, The Byzantines 30:4 Verb
فِی بِضۡعِ سِنِینَۗ لِلَّهِ ٱلۡأَمۡرُ مِن قَبۡلُ وَمِنۢ بَعۡدُۚ وَیَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ یَفۡرَحُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Within three to nine years. To Allah belongs the command before and after. And that day the believers will rejoic
Abdel Haleem: in a few years’ time––God is in command, first and last. On that day, the believers will rejoic
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Within ten years - Allah's is the command in the former case and in the latter - and in that day believers will rejoic
The Family of Imran, The House of Imran 3:120 Verb
إِن تَمۡسَسۡكُمۡ حَسَنَةࣱ تَسُؤۡهُمۡ وَإِن تُصِبۡكُمۡ سَیِّئَةࣱ یَفۡرَحُوا۟ بِهَاۖ وَإِن تَصۡبِرُوا۟ وَتَتَّقُوا۟ لَا یَضُرُّكُمۡ كَیۡدُهُمۡ شَیۡءًاۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِمَا یَعۡمَلُونَ مُحِیطࣱ ۝١٢٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): If good touches you, it distresses them; but if harm strikes you, they rejoice at it. And if you are patient and fear Allah , their plot will not harm you at all. Indeed, Allah is encompassing of what they do
Abdel Haleem: They grieve at any good that befalls you [believers] and rejoice at your misfortunes. But if you are steadfast and conscious of God, their scheming will not harm you in the least: God encircles everything they do
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: If a lucky chance befall you, it is evil unto them, and if disaster strike you they rejoice thereat. But if ye persevere and keep from evil their guile will never harm you. Lo! Allah is Surrounding what they do
The Family of Imran, The House of Imran 3:188 Verb
لَا تَحۡسَبَنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ یَفۡرَحُونَ بِمَاۤ أَتَوا۟ وَّیُحِبُّونَ أَن یُحۡمَدُوا۟ بِمَا لَمۡ یَفۡعَلُوا۟ فَلَا تَحۡسَبَنَّهُم بِمَفَازَةࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡعَذَابِۖ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝١٨٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And never think that those who rejoice in what they have perpetrated and like to be praised for what they did not do - never think them [to be] in safety from the punishment, and for them is a painful punishment
Abdel Haleem: Do not think [Prophet] that those who exult in what they have done and seek praise for things they have not done will escape the torment; agonizing torment awaits them
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Think not that those who exult in what they have given, and love to be praised for what they have not done - Think not, they are in safety from the doom. A painful doom is theirs
The Forgiver, The Forgiving One 40:75 Verb
ذَ ٰلِكُم بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَفۡرَحُونَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ بِغَیۡرِ ٱلۡحَقِّ وَبِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَمۡرَحُونَ ۝٧٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): [The angels will say], "That was because you used to exult upon the earth without right and you used to behave insolently
Abdel Haleem: all because on earth you revelled in untruth and ran wild
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: (And it is said unto them): This is because ye exulted in the earth without right, and because ye were petulant
The Forgiver, The Forgiving One 40:83 Verb
فَلَمَّا جَاۤءَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتِ فَرِحُوا۟ بِمَا عِندَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡعِلۡمِ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ یَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ۝٨٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And when their messengers came to them with clear proofs, they [merely] rejoiced in what they had of knowledge, but they were enveloped by what they used to ridicule
Abdel Haleem: When messengers came to them with clear signs, they revelled in the knowledge they had, and so they were engulfed by the very punishment they mocked
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And when their messengers brought them clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty) they exulted in the knowledge they (themselves) possessed. And that which they were wont to mock befell them
Council, Consultation, The Counsel 42:48 Verb
فَإِنۡ أَعۡرَضُوا۟ فَمَاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَـٰكَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ حَفِیظًاۖ إِنۡ عَلَیۡكَ إِلَّا ٱلۡبَلَـٰغُۗ وَإِنَّاۤ إِذَاۤ أَذَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مِنَّا رَحۡمَةࣰ فَرِحَ بِهَاۖ وَإِن تُصِبۡهُمۡ سَیِّئَةُۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتۡ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ فَإِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ كَفُورࣱ ۝٤٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): But if they turn away - then We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], over them as a guardian; upon you is only [the duty of] notification. And indeed, when We let man taste mercy from us, he rejoices in it; but if evil afflicts him for what his hands have put forth, then indeed, man is ungrateful
Abdel Haleem: We have not sent you [Prophet] to be their guardian: your only duty is to deliver the message. When We give man a taste of Our mercy, he rejoices in it, but if some harm befalls him on account of what he has done with his own hands, then he is ungrateful
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: But if they are averse, We have not sent thee as a warder over them. Thine is only to convey (the message). And lo! when We cause man to taste of mercy from Us he exulteth therefor. And if some evil striketh them because of that which their own hands have sent before, then lo! man is an ingrate
The Iron 57:23 Verb
لِّكَیۡلَا تَأۡسَوۡا۟ عَلَىٰ مَا فَاتَكُمۡ وَلَا تَفۡرَحُوا۟ بِمَاۤ ءَاتَىٰكُمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا یُحِبُّ كُلَّ مُخۡتَالࣲ فَخُورٍ ۝٢٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): In order that you not despair over what has eluded you and not exult [in pride] over what He has given you. And Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful
Abdel Haleem: so you need not grieve for what you miss or gloat over what you gain
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: That ye grieve not for the sake of that which hath escaped you, nor yet exult because of that which hath been given. Allah loveth not all prideful boasters
Cattle, Livestock 6:44 Verb
فَلَمَّا نَسُوا۟ مَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ بِهِۦ فَتَحۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ أَبۡوَ ٰبَ كُلِّ شَیۡءٍ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا فَرِحُوا۟ بِمَاۤ أُوتُوۤا۟ أَخَذۡنَـٰهُم بَغۡتَةࣰ فَإِذَا هُم مُّبۡلِسُونَ ۝٤٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So when they forgot that by which they had been reminded, We opened to them the doors of every [good] thing until, when they rejoiced in that which they were given, We seized them suddenly, and they were [then] in despair
Abdel Haleem: So, when they had forgotten the warning they had received, We opened the gates to everything for them. Then, as they revelled in what they had been given, We struck them suddenly and they were dumbfounded
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Then, when they forgot that whereof they had been reminded, We opened unto them the gates of all things till, even as they were rejoicing in that which they were given, We seized them unawares, and lo! they were dumbfounded
Repentance 9:81 Verb
فَرِحَ ٱلۡمُخَلَّفُونَ بِمَقۡعَدِهِمۡ خِلَـٰفَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ وَكَرِهُوۤا۟ أَن یُجَـٰهِدُوا۟ بِأَمۡوَ ٰلِهِمۡ وَأَنفُسِهِمۡ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَقَالُوا۟ لَا تَنفِرُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡحَرِّۗ قُلۡ نَارُ جَهَنَّمَ أَشَدُّ حَرࣰّاۚ لَّوۡ كَانُوا۟ یَفۡقَهُونَ ۝٨١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Those who remained behind rejoiced in their staying [at home] after [the departure of] the Messenger of Allah and disliked to strive with their wealth and their lives in the cause of Allah and said, ''Do not go forth in the heat." Say, "The fire of Hell is more intensive in heat" - if they would but understand
Abdel Haleem: Those who were left behind were happy to stay behind when God’s Messenger set out; they hated the thought of striving in God’s way with their possessions and their persons. They said to one another, ‘Do not go [to war] in this heat.’ Say, ‘Hellfire is hotter.’ If only they understood
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Those who were left behind rejoiced at sitting still behind the messenger of Allah, and were averse to striving with their wealth and their lives in Allah's way. And they said: Go not forth in the heat! Say: The fire of hell is more intense of heat, if they but understood

Hud 11:10 Noun
وَلَىِٕنۡ أَذَقۡنَـٰهُ نَعۡمَاۤءَ بَعۡدَ ضَرَّاۤءَ مَسَّتۡهُ لَیَقُولَنَّ ذَهَبَ ٱلسَّیِّءَاتُ عَنِّیۤۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَفَرِحࣱ فَخُورٌ ۝١٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): But if We give him a taste of favor after hardship has touched him, he will surely say, "Bad times have left me." Indeed, he is exultant and boastful
Abdel Haleem: And if We let him taste mercy after some harm has touched him, he is sure to say, ‘Misfortune has gone away from me.’ He becomes exultant and boastful
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And if We cause him to taste grace after some misfortune that had befallen him, he saith: The ills have gone from me. Lo! he is exultant, boastful
The Believers 23:53 Noun
فَتَقَطَّعُوۤا۟ أَمۡرَهُم بَیۡنَهُمۡ زُبُرࣰاۖ كُلُّ حِزۡبِۭ بِمَا لَدَیۡهِمۡ فَرِحُونَ ۝٥٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): But the people divided their religion among them into sects - each faction, in what it has, rejoicing
Abdel Haleem: but they have split their community into sects, each rejoicing in their own
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: But they (mankind) have broken their religion among them into sects, each group rejoicing in its tenets
The Story, Stories, The Narrative 28:76 Noun

Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): [Or] of those who have divided their religion and become sects, every faction rejoicing in what it has

Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Of those who split up their religion and became schismatics, each sect exulting in its tenets
The Family of Imran, The House of Imran 3:170 Noun
فَرِحِینَ بِمَاۤ ءَاتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦ وَیَسۡتَبۡشِرُونَ بِٱلَّذِینَ لَمۡ یَلۡحَقُوا۟ بِهِم مِّنۡ خَلۡفِهِمۡ أَلَّا خَوۡفٌ عَلَیۡهِمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ یَحۡزَنُونَ ۝١٧٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Rejoicing in what Allah has bestowed upon them of His bounty, and they receive good tidings about those [to be martyred] after them who have not yet joined them - that there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve
Abdel Haleem: happy with what God has given them of His favour; rejoicing that for those they have left behind who have yet to join them there is no fear, nor will they grieve
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Jubilant (are they) because of that which Allah hath bestowed upon them of His bounty, rejoicing for the sake of those who have not joined them but are left behind: That there shall no fear come upon them neither shall they grieve
Repentance 9:50 Noun
إِن تُصِبۡكَ حَسَنَةࣱ تَسُؤۡهُمۡۖ وَإِن تُصِبۡكَ مُصِیبَةࣱ یَقُولُوا۟ قَدۡ أَخَذۡنَاۤ أَمۡرَنَا مِن قَبۡلُ وَیَتَوَلَّوا۟ وَّهُمۡ فَرِحُونَ ۝٥٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): If good befalls you, it distresses them; but if disaster strikes you, they say, "We took our matter [in hand] before," and turn away while they are rejoicing
Abdel Haleem: If you [Prophet] have good fortune, it will grieve them, but if misfortune comes your way, they will say to themselves, ‘We took precautions for this,’ and go away rejoicing
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: If good befalleth thee (O Muhammad) it afflicteth them, and if calamity befalleth thee, they say: We took precaution, and they turn away well pleased
