1 Judgment approaches

۞ ٱقۡتَرَبَ لِلنَّاسِ حِسَابُهُمۡ وَهُمۡ فِی غَفۡلَةࣲ مُّعۡرِضُونَ ۝١

Mankind’s reckoning has drawn near, while they are in oblivion, disregarding (it).

iq'taraba lilnnāsi ḥisābuhum wahum fī ghaflatin muʿ'riḍūn

مَا یَأۡتِیهِم مِّن ذِكۡرࣲ مِّن رَّبِّهِم مُّحۡدَثٍ إِلَّا ٱسۡتَمَعُوهُ وَهُمۡ یَلۡعَبُونَ ۝٢

No fresh reminder comes to them from their Lord but they listen to it playfully,

mā yatīhim min dhik'rin min rabbihim muḥ'dathin illā is'tamaʿūhu wahum yalʿabūn

لَاهِیَةࣰ قُلُوبُهُمۡۗ وَأَسَرُّوا۟ ٱلنَّجۡوَى ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ هَلۡ هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُكُمۡۖ أَفَتَأۡتُونَ ٱلسِّحۡرَ وَأَنتُمۡ تُبۡصِرُونَ ۝٣

their hearts distracted. And secretly did the unjust converse, “Is this anything but a human being like youpl? Will you go along with sorcery while you see?”

lāhiyatan qulūbuhum wa-asarrū l-najwā alladhīna ẓalamū hal hādhā illā basharun mith'lukum afatatūna l-siḥ'ra wa-antum tub'ṣirūn

قَالَ رَبِّی یَعۡلَمُ ٱلۡقَوۡلَ فِی ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِیعُ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ۝٤

He said, “My Lord knows what is said in the heaven and the earth, for He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.”

qāla rabbī yaʿlamu l-qawla fī l-samāi wal-arḍi wahuwa l-samīʿu l-ʿalīm

بَلۡ قَالُوۤا۟ أَضۡغَـٰثُ أَحۡلَـٰمِۭ بَلِ ٱفۡتَرَىٰهُ بَلۡ هُوَ شَاعِرࣱ فَلۡیَأۡتِنَا بِءَایَةࣲ كَمَاۤ أُرۡسِلَ ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ ۝٥

But they said, “A jumble of dreams; rather, he fabricated it; rather, he is a poet, so let him bring us a sign like those sent to the ancients.”

bal qālū aḍghāthu aḥlāmin bali if'tarāhu bal huwa shāʿirun falyatinā biāyatin kamā ur'sila l-awalūn

مَاۤ ءَامَنَتۡ قَبۡلَهُم مِّن قَرۡیَةٍ أَهۡلَكۡنَـٰهَاۤۖ أَفَهُمۡ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٦

None of the towns We annihilated before them had believed. Will they, then, believe?

mā āmanat qablahum min qaryatin ahlaknāhā afahum yu'minūn

وَمَاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَا قَبۡلَكَ إِلَّا رِجَالࣰا نُّوحِیۤ إِلَیۡهِمۡۖ فَسۡءَلُوۤا۟ أَهۡلَ ٱلذِّكۡرِ إِن كُنتُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٧

And never did We send before yousg but men to whom We reveal, so ask the people of the Reminder if youpl do not know.

wamā arsalnā qablaka illā rijālan nūḥī ilayhim fasalū ahla l-dhik'ri in kuntum lā taʿlamūn

وَمَا جَعَلۡنَـٰهُمۡ جَسَدࣰا لَّا یَأۡكُلُونَ ٱلطَّعَامَ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ خَـٰلِدِینَ ۝٨

And never did We make them a mere body, (ones) who eatpl no food, for never were they immortal.

wamā jaʿalnāhum jasadan lā yakulūna l-ṭaʿāma wamā kānū khālidīn

ثُمَّ صَدَقۡنَـٰهُمُ ٱلۡوَعۡدَ فَأَنجَیۡنَـٰهُمۡ وَمَن نَّشَاۤءُ وَأَهۡلَكۡنَا ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِینَ ۝٩

Then We fulfilled the promise to them, so We saved them together with whomever We will, and We annihilated the extremists.

thumma ṣadaqnāhumu l-waʿda fa-anjaynāhum waman nashāu wa-ahlaknā l-mus'rifīn

لَقَدۡ أَنزَلۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡكُمۡ كِتَـٰبࣰا فِیهِ ذِكۡرُكُمۡۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ ۝١٠

Most surely, We have sent down to youpl a Scripture containing your reminder. Do you not reason?

laqad anzalnā ilaykum kitāban fīhi dhik'rukum afalā taʿqilūn

2 Truth triumphed always

وَكَمۡ قَصَمۡنَا مِن قَرۡیَةࣲ كَانَتۡ ظَالِمَةࣰ وَأَنشَأۡنَا بَعۡدَهَا قَوۡمًا ءَاخَرِینَ ۝١١

And how many an unjust town have We crushed and established thereafter another people?

wakam qaṣamnā min qaryatin kānat ẓālimatan wa-anshanā baʿdahā qawman ākharīn

فَلَمَّاۤ أَحَسُّوا۟ بَأۡسَنَاۤ إِذَا هُم مِّنۡهَا یَرۡكُضُونَ ۝١٢

Thus when they sensed Our force, they immediately ran away from it.

falammā aḥassū basanā idhā hum min'hā yarkuḍūn

لَا تَرۡكُضُوا۟ وَٱرۡجِعُوۤا۟ إِلَىٰ مَاۤ أُتۡرِفۡتُمۡ فِیهِ وَمَسَـٰكِنِكُمۡ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُسۡءَلُونَ ۝١٣

Do not run, but come back to the luxuries youpl were immersed in, and your residences, that you may be questioned.

lā tarkuḍū wa-ir'jiʿū ilā mā ut'rif'tum fīhi wamasākinikum laʿallakum tus'alūn

قَالُوا۟ یَـٰوَیۡلَنَاۤ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَـٰلِمِینَ ۝١٤

They said, “Woe to us; indeed, we have been unjust.”

qālū yāwaylanā innā kunnā ẓālimīn

فَمَا زَالَت تِّلۡكَ دَعۡوَىٰهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ جَعَلۡنَـٰهُمۡ حَصِیدًا خَـٰمِدِینَ ۝١٥

Thus this continued to be their cry until We made them extinguished ashes.

famā zālat til'ka daʿwāhum ḥattā jaʿalnāhum ḥaṣīdan khāmidīn

وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَاۤءَ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَیۡنَهُمَا لَـٰعِبِینَ ۝١٦

And in no way did We create the sky and the earth and what is between them playfully.

wamā khalaqnā l-samāa wal-arḍa wamā baynahumā lāʿibīn

لَوۡ أَرَدۡنَاۤ أَن نَّتَّخِذَ لَهۡوࣰا لَّٱتَّخَذۡنَـٰهُ مِن لَّدُنَّاۤ إِن كُنَّا فَـٰعِلِینَ ۝١٧

If We wanted amusement, We could have obtained it from very close to Us, were We to do so.

law aradnā an nattakhidha lahwan la-ittakhadhnāhu min ladunnā in kunnā fāʿilīn

بَلۡ نَقۡذِفُ بِٱلۡحَقِّ عَلَى ٱلۡبَـٰطِلِ فَیَدۡمَغُهُۥ فَإِذَا هُوَ زَاهِقࣱۚ وَلَكُمُ ٱلۡوَیۡلُ مِمَّا تَصِفُونَ ۝١٨

Rather, We hurl the truth against falsehood so that it crushes it, and thus it vanishes. And woe unto youpl for what you describe.

bal naqdhifu bil-ḥaqi ʿalā l-bāṭili fayadmaghuhu fa-idhā huwa zāhiqun walakumu l-waylu mimmā taṣifūn

وَلَهُۥ مَن فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَمَنۡ عِندَهُۥ لَا یَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ عَنۡ عِبَادَتِهِۦ وَلَا یَسۡتَحۡسِرُونَ ۝١٩

For to Him belongs whomever is in the heavens and the earth. And those in His presence are not too arrogant to worship Him, nor do they grow weary.

walahu man fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi waman ʿindahu lā yastakbirūna ʿan ʿibādatihi walā yastaḥsirūn

یُسَبِّحُونَ ٱلَّیۡلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ لَا یَفۡتُرُونَ ۝٢٠

They give due exaltation (to Him) night and day, never tiring.

yusabbiḥūna al-layla wal-nahāra lā yafturūn

أَمِ ٱتَّخَذُوۤا۟ ءَالِهَةࣰ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ هُمۡ یُنشِرُونَ ۝٢١

Or have they taken to themselves gods from the earth who (can) resurrect?

ami ittakhadhū ālihatan mina l-arḍi hum yunshirūn

لَوۡ كَانَ فِیهِمَاۤ ءَالِهَةٌ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ لَفَسَدَتَاۚ فَسُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ عَمَّا یَصِفُونَ ۝٢٢

If there were in them gods other than Allah, they would have surely become corrupted. So Highly Exalted is Allah, Lord of the Throne, far above what they describe.

law kāna fīhimā ālihatun illā l-lahu lafasadatā fasub'ḥāna l-lahi rabbi l-ʿarshi ʿammā yaṣifūn

لَا یُسۡءَلُ عَمَّا یَفۡعَلُ وَهُمۡ یُسۡءَلُونَ ۝٢٣

He is not asked about what He does, but they shall be asked.

lā yus'alu ʿammā yafʿalu wahum yus'alūn

أَمِ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦۤ ءَالِهَةࣰۖ قُلۡ هَاتُوا۟ بُرۡهَـٰنَكُمۡۖ هَـٰذَا ذِكۡرُ مَن مَّعِیَ وَذِكۡرُ مَن قَبۡلِیۚ بَلۡ أَكۡثَرُهُمۡ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ٱلۡحَقَّۖ فَهُم مُّعۡرِضُونَ ۝٢٤

Or have they taken apart from Him other gods? Say, “Bring yourpl proof; this is the reminder of those with me and the reminder of those before me.” Rather, most of them do not know the truth, so they disregard (it).

ami ittakhadhū min dūnihi ālihatan qul hātū bur'hānakum hādhā dhik'ru man maʿiya wadhik'ru man qablī bal aktharuhum lā yaʿlamūna l-ḥaqa fahum muʿ'riḍūn

وَمَاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِكَ مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا نُوحِیۤ إِلَیۡهِ أَنَّهُۥ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّاۤ أَنَا۠ فَٱعۡبُدُونِ ۝٢٥

And never did We send any messenger before yousg but We reveal to him that: “There is no god but I, so worshippl Me.”

wamā arsalnā min qablika min rasūlin illā nūḥī ilayhi annahu lā ilāha illā anā fa-uʿ'budūn

وَقَالُوا۟ ٱتَّخَذَ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ وَلَدࣰاۗ سُبۡحَـٰنَهُۥۚ بَلۡ عِبَادࣱ مُّكۡرَمُونَ ۝٢٦

Yet they said, “The All-Merciful has taken to himself offspring.” Highly Exalted is He; rather, they are honored servants

waqālū ittakhadha l-raḥmānu waladan sub'ḥānahu bal ʿibādun muk'ramūn

لَا یَسۡبِقُونَهُۥ بِٱلۡقَوۡلِ وَهُم بِأَمۡرِهِۦ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٢٧

who never speak before Him, and they only act on His command.

lā yasbiqūnahu bil-qawli wahum bi-amrihi yaʿmalūn

یَعۡلَمُ مَا بَیۡنَ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ وَمَا خَلۡفَهُمۡ وَلَا یَشۡفَعُونَ إِلَّا لِمَنِ ٱرۡتَضَىٰ وَهُم مِّنۡ خَشۡیَتِهِۦ مُشۡفِقُونَ ۝٢٨

He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they do not intercede except for those whom He approves, and they tremble in awe of Him.

yaʿlamu mā bayna aydīhim wamā khalfahum walā yashfaʿūna illā limani ir'taḍā wahum min khashyatihi mush'fiqūn

۞ وَمَن یَقُلۡ مِنۡهُمۡ إِنِّیۤ إِلَـٰهࣱ مِّن دُونِهِۦ فَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِیهِ جَهَنَّمَۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٢٩

And whoever of them says, “I am a god apart from Him,” We will repay him with Hell; thus We repay the unjust.

waman yaqul min'hum innī ilāhun min dūnihi fadhālika najzīhi jahannama kadhālika najzī l-ẓālimīn

3 Truth of Revelation

أَوَ لَمۡ یَرَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوۤا۟ أَنَّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ كَانَتَا رَتۡقࣰا فَفَتَقۡنَـٰهُمَاۖ وَجَعَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلۡمَاۤءِ كُلَّ شَیۡءٍ حَیٍّۚ أَفَلَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٣٠

Do the deniers not see that the heavens and the earth were one mass, and then We tore them apart? And We made from water every living thing; will they not believe?

awalam yara alladhīna kafarū anna l-samāwāti wal-arḍa kānatā ratqan fafataqnāhumā wajaʿalnā mina l-māi kulla shayin ḥayyin afalā yu'minūn

وَجَعَلۡنَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ رَوَ ٰسِیَ أَن تَمِیدَ بِهِمۡ وَجَعَلۡنَا فِیهَا فِجَاجࣰا سُبُلࣰا لَّعَلَّهُمۡ یَهۡتَدُونَ ۝٣١

And We put firm mountains on the earth, lest it sway with them; and We set broad pathways on it, that they might be guided.

wajaʿalnā fī l-arḍi rawāsiya an tamīda bihim wajaʿalnā fīhā fijājan subulan laʿallahum yahtadūn

وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلسَّمَاۤءَ سَقۡفࣰا مَّحۡفُوظࣰاۖ وَهُمۡ عَنۡ ءَایَـٰتِهَا مُعۡرِضُونَ ۝٣٢

And We made the sky a preserved ceiling, yet they disregard its signs.

wajaʿalnā l-samāa saqfan maḥfūẓan wahum ʿan āyātihā muʿ'riḍūn

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلَّیۡلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ وَٱلشَّمۡسَ وَٱلۡقَمَرَۖ كُلࣱّ فِی فَلَكࣲ یَسۡبَحُونَ ۝٣٣

And it is He who created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon, each floating in an orbit.

wahuwa alladhī khalaqa al-layla wal-nahāra wal-shamsa wal-qamara kullun fī falakin yasbaḥūn

وَمَا جَعَلۡنَا لِبَشَرࣲ مِّن قَبۡلِكَ ٱلۡخُلۡدَۖ أَفَإِی۟ن مِّتَّ فَهُمُ ٱلۡخَـٰلِدُونَ ۝٣٤

And never did We grant immortality to any human being before yousg. Should you die, are they then the immortal?

wamā jaʿalnā libasharin min qablika l-khul'da afa-in mitta fahumu l-khālidūn

كُلُّ نَفۡسࣲ ذَاۤىِٕقَةُ ٱلۡمَوۡتِۗ وَنَبۡلُوكُم بِٱلشَّرِّ وَٱلۡخَیۡرِ فِتۡنَةࣰۖ وَإِلَیۡنَا تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝٣٥

Every single self is bound to taste death, for We test youpl with evil and good as a means of trial, and to Us you are returned.

kullu nafsin dhāiqatu l-mawti wanablūkum bil-shari wal-khayri fit'natan wa-ilaynā tur'jaʿūn

وَإِذَا رَءَاكَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوۤا۟ إِن یَتَّخِذُونَكَ إِلَّا هُزُوًا أَهَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِی یَذۡكُرُ ءَالِهَتَكُمۡ وَهُم بِذِكۡرِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ هُمۡ كَـٰفِرُونَ ۝٣٦

And when those who have denied see yousg, they treat you only with ridicule: “Is this the one who mentions your gods?” For of the reminder of the All-Merciful they themselves are deniers.

wa-idhā raāka alladhīna kafarū in yattakhidhūnaka illā huzuwan ahādhā alladhī yadhkuru ālihatakum wahum bidhik'ri l-raḥmāni hum kāfirūn

خُلِقَ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ مِنۡ عَجَلࣲۚ سَأُو۟رِیكُمۡ ءَایَـٰتِی فَلَا تَسۡتَعۡجِلُونِ ۝٣٧

Man was created of haste. I will show youpl My signs, so do not ask Me to hasten.

khuliqa l-insānu min ʿajalin sa-urīkum āyātī falā tastaʿjilūn

وَیَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡوَعۡدُ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝٣٨

And they say, “When will this promise come true, if you are truthful?”

wayaqūlūna matā hādhā l-waʿdu in kuntum ṣādiqīn

لَوۡ یَعۡلَمُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ حِینَ لَا یَكُفُّونَ عَن وُجُوهِهِمُ ٱلنَّارَ وَلَا عَن ظُهُورِهِمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ یُنصَرُونَ ۝٣٩

If those who have denied only knew the time when they will not be able to keep the Fire off their faces nor off their backs, nor will they be supported!

law yaʿlamu alladhīna kafarū ḥīna lā yakuffūna ʿan wujūhihimu l-nāra walā ʿan ẓuhūrihim walā hum yunṣarūn

بَلۡ تَأۡتِیهِم بَغۡتَةࣰ فَتَبۡهَتُهُمۡ فَلَا یَسۡتَطِیعُونَ رَدَّهَا وَلَا هُمۡ یُنظَرُونَ ۝٤٠

Rather, it will come upon them suddenly and bewilder them, so they will not be able to repel it, nor will they be given respite.

bal tatīhim baghtatan fatabhatuhum falā yastaṭīʿūna raddahā walā hum yunẓarūn

وَلَقَدِ ٱسۡتُهۡزِئَ بِرُسُلࣲ مِّن قَبۡلِكَ فَحَاقَ بِٱلَّذِینَ سَخِرُوا۟ مِنۡهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ یَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ۝٤١

And most surely (other) messengers before yousg were ridiculed, but those who mocked were surrounded by what they used to ridicule.

walaqadi us'tuh'zi-a birusulin min qablika faḥāqa bi-alladhīna sakhirū min'hum mā kānū bihi yastahziūn

4 Allah deals Mercifully

قُلۡ مَن یَكۡلَؤُكُم بِٱلَّیۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ مِنَ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ عَن ذِكۡرِ رَبِّهِم مُّعۡرِضُونَ ۝٤٢

Say, “Who guards you by night and day from the All-Merciful?” But they disregard the reminder of their Lord.

qul man yakla-ukum bi-al-layli wal-nahāri mina l-raḥmāni bal hum ʿan dhik'ri rabbihim muʿ'riḍūn

أَمۡ لَهُمۡ ءَالِهَةࣱ تَمۡنَعُهُم مِّن دُونِنَاۚ لَا یَسۡتَطِیعُونَ نَصۡرَ أَنفُسِهِمۡ وَلَا هُم مِّنَّا یُصۡحَبُونَ ۝٤٣

Or do they have gods that can defend them against Us? They cannot support themselves, nor will they find anyone to side with them against Us.

am lahum ālihatun tamnaʿuhum min dūninā lā yastaṭīʿūna naṣra anfusihim walā hum minnā yuṣ'ḥabūn

بَلۡ مَتَّعۡنَا هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ وَءَابَاۤءَهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ طَالَ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡعُمُرُۗ أَفَلَا یَرَوۡنَ أَنَّا نَأۡتِی ٱلۡأَرۡضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنۡ أَطۡرَافِهَاۤۚ أَفَهُمُ ٱلۡغَـٰلِبُونَ ۝٤٤

Rather, We gave these people and their forefathers enjoyments until time grew long upon them. Do they not see how We gradually reduce the land from its extremities? Are they then the overcomers?

bal mattaʿnā hāulāi waābāahum ḥattā ṭāla ʿalayhimu l-ʿumuru afalā yarawna annā natī l-arḍa nanquṣuhā min aṭrāfihā afahumu l-ghālibūn

قُلۡ إِنَّمَاۤ أُنذِرُكُم بِٱلۡوَحۡیِۚ وَلَا یَسۡمَعُ ٱلصُّمُّ ٱلدُّعَاۤءَ إِذَا مَا یُنذَرُونَ ۝٤٥

Say, “Indeed, I am only warning youpl through revelation.” But the deaf cannot hear the call when they are being warned.

qul innamā undhirukum bil-waḥyi walā yasmaʿu l-ṣumu l-duʿāa idhā mā yundharūn

وَلَىِٕن مَّسَّتۡهُمۡ نَفۡحَةࣱ مِّنۡ عَذَابِ رَبِّكَ لَیَقُولُنَّ یَـٰوَیۡلَنَاۤ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَـٰلِمِینَ ۝٤٦

And if a whiff of your Lord’s punishment touches them, they say, “Woe to us, We have truly been unjust.”

wala-in massathum nafḥatun min ʿadhābi rabbika layaqūlunna yāwaylanā innā kunnā ẓālimīn

وَنَضَعُ ٱلۡمَوَ ٰزِینَ ٱلۡقِسۡطَ لِیَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ فَلَا تُظۡلَمُ نَفۡسࣱ شَیۡءࣰاۖ وَإِن كَانَ مِثۡقَالَ حَبَّةࣲ مِّنۡ خَرۡدَلٍ أَتَیۡنَا بِهَاۗ وَكَفَىٰ بِنَا حَـٰسِبِینَ ۝٤٧

And We set up the scales of justice for the Day of Resurrection so that not a single self suffers the least injustice, and even if it be the weight of a mustard seed, We bring it forth. For sufficient are We as reckoners.

wanaḍaʿu l-mawāzīna l-qis'ṭa liyawmi l-qiyāmati falā tuẓ'lamu nafsun shayan wa-in kāna mith'qāla ḥabbatin min khardalin ataynā bihā wakafā binā ḥāsibīn

وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَیۡنَا مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ ٱلۡفُرۡقَانَ وَضِیَاۤءࣰ وَذِكۡرࣰا لِّلۡمُتَّقِینَ ۝٤٨

And very truly, We gave Moses and Aaron the Criterion and illumination and a reminder for the ones who were mindful (of God):

walaqad ātaynā mūsā wahārūna l-fur'qāna waḍiyāan wadhik'ran lil'muttaqīn

ٱلَّذِینَ یَخۡشَوۡنَ رَبَّهُم بِٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَهُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّاعَةِ مُشۡفِقُونَ ۝٤٩

those who fear their Lord, though Unseen, and are apprehensive of the Hour.

alladhīna yakhshawna rabbahum bil-ghaybi wahum mina l-sāʿati mush'fiqūn

وَهَـٰذَا ذِكۡرࣱ مُّبَارَكٌ أَنزَلۡنَـٰهُۚ أَفَأَنتُمۡ لَهُۥ مُنكِرُونَ ۝٥٠

And this (too) is a blessed Reminder that We have sent down. Are youpl going to reject it?

wahādhā dhik'run mubārakun anzalnāhu afa-antum lahu munkirūn

5 Abraham — Allah always delivers Prophets

۞ وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَیۡنَاۤ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ رُشۡدَهُۥ مِن قَبۡلُ وَكُنَّا بِهِۦ عَـٰلِمِینَ ۝٥١

And most surely, We brought Abraham his prudence before, and We well knew of him

walaqad ātaynā ib'rāhīma rush'dahu min qablu wakunnā bihi ʿālimīn

إِذۡ قَالَ لِأَبِیهِ وَقَوۡمِهِۦ مَا هَـٰذِهِ ٱلتَّمَاثِیلُ ٱلَّتِیۤ أَنتُمۡ لَهَا عَـٰكِفُونَ ۝٥٢

when he said to his father and his people, “What are these statues to which you are devoted?”

idh qāla li-abīhi waqawmihi mā hādhihi l-tamāthīlu allatī antum lahā ʿākifūn

قَالُوا۟ وَجَدۡنَاۤ ءَابَاۤءَنَا لَهَا عَـٰبِدِینَ ۝٥٣

They said, “We found our forefathers worshiping them.”

qālū wajadnā ābāanā lahā ʿābidīn

قَالَ لَقَدۡ كُنتُمۡ أَنتُمۡ وَءَابَاۤؤُكُمۡ فِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝٥٤

He said, “Youpl and your forefathers have been in evident misguidance.”

qāla laqad kuntum antum waābāukum fī ḍalālin mubīni

قَالُوۤا۟ أَجِئۡتَنَا بِٱلۡحَقِّ أَمۡ أَنتَ مِنَ ٱللَّـٰعِبِینَ ۝٥٥

They said, “Have you come to us with the truth, or are you one of the jesters?”

qālū aji'tanā bil-ḥaqi am anta mina l-lāʿibīn

قَالَ بَل رَّبُّكُمۡ رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلَّذِی فَطَرَهُنَّ وَأَنَا۠ عَلَىٰ ذَ ٰلِكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّـٰهِدِینَ ۝٥٦

He said, “Rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the One who originated them, and to that, I am one of those who bear witness.

qāla bal rabbukum rabbu l-samāwāti wal-arḍi alladhī faṭarahunna wa-anā ʿalā dhālikum mina l-shāhidīn

وَتَٱللَّهِ لَأَكِیدَنَّ أَصۡنَـٰمَكُم بَعۡدَ أَن تُوَلُّوا۟ مُدۡبِرِینَ ۝٥٧

And by Allah, I shall certainly plot against your human-shaped idols after you have turned away, fleeing.”

watal-lahi la-akīdanna aṣnāmakum baʿda an tuwallū mud'birīn

فَجَعَلَهُمۡ جُذَ ٰذًا إِلَّا كَبِیرࣰا لَّهُمۡ لَعَلَّهُمۡ إِلَیۡهِ یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝٥٨

So he reduced them into pieces, except for their biggest, that they may return to it.

fajaʿalahum judhādhan illā kabīran lahum laʿallahum ilayhi yarjiʿūn

قَالُوا۟ مَن فَعَلَ هَـٰذَا بِءَالِهَتِنَاۤ إِنَّهُۥ لَمِنَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٥٩

They said, “Who did this to our gods? Indeed, he is certainly one of the unjust.”

qālū man faʿala hādhā biālihatinā innahu lamina l-ẓālimīn

قَالُوا۟ سَمِعۡنَا فَتࣰى یَذۡكُرُهُمۡ یُقَالُ لَهُۥۤ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمُ ۝٦٠

They said, “We heard a young man mentioning them; he is called Abraham.”

qālū samiʿ'nā fatan yadhkuruhum yuqālu lahu ib'rāhīm

قَالُوا۟ فَأۡتُوا۟ بِهِۦ عَلَىٰۤ أَعۡیُنِ ٱلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَشۡهَدُونَ ۝٦١

They said, “So bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may witness.”

qālū fatū bihi ʿalā aʿyuni l-nāsi laʿallahum yashhadūn

قَالُوۤا۟ ءَأَنتَ فَعَلۡتَ هَـٰذَا بِءَالِهَتِنَا یَـٰۤإِبۡرَ ٰهِیمُ ۝٦٢

They said, “Are you the one who did this to our gods, O Abraham?”

qālū a-anta faʿalta hādhā biālihatinā yāib'rāhīm

قَالَ بَلۡ فَعَلَهُۥ كَبِیرُهُمۡ هَـٰذَا فَسۡءَلُوهُمۡ إِن كَانُوا۟ یَنطِقُونَ ۝٦٣

He said, “Rather, it was this biggest of them that did it, so ask them, if they can talk.”

qāla bal faʿalahu kabīruhum hādhā fasalūhum in kānū yanṭiqūn

فَرَجَعُوۤا۟ إِلَىٰۤ أَنفُسِهِمۡ فَقَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّكُمۡ أَنتُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ ۝٦٤

So they turned to one another and said, “Indeed, you yourselves are the unjust.”

farajaʿū ilā anfusihim faqālū innakum antumu l-ẓālimūn

ثُمَّ نُكِسُوا۟ عَلَىٰ رُءُوسِهِمۡ لَقَدۡ عَلِمۡتَ مَا هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ یَنطِقُونَ ۝٦٥

But they reverted to their old ideas: “Yousg certainly know well that these do not talk.”

thumma nukisū ʿalā ruūsihim laqad ʿalim'ta mā hāulāi yanṭiqūn

قَالَ أَفَتَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا یَنفَعُكُمۡ شَیۡءࣰا وَلَا یَضُرُّكُمۡ ۝٦٦

He said, “Do you worship, apart from Allah, what can neither benefit you in anything nor harm you?

qāla afataʿbudūna min dūni l-lahi mā lā yanfaʿukum shayan walā yaḍurruku

أُفࣲّ لَّكُمۡ وَلِمَا تَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٦٧

Fie on you and on what you worship apart from Allah. Do you not reason?”

uffin lakum walimā taʿbudūna min dūni l-lahi afalā taʿqilūn

قَالُوا۟ حَرِّقُوهُ وَٱنصُرُوۤا۟ ءَالِهَتَكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ فَـٰعِلِینَ ۝٦٨

They said, “Burn him and support your gods, if you are going to act.”

qālū ḥarriqūhu wa-unṣurū ālihatakum in kuntum fāʿilīn

قُلۡنَا یَـٰنَارُ كُونِی بَرۡدࣰا وَسَلَـٰمًا عَلَىٰۤ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ ۝٦٩

We said, “O fire, be cool and peaceful upon Abraham.”

qul'nā yānāru kūnī bardan wasalāman ʿalā ib'rāhīm

وَأَرَادُوا۟ بِهِۦ كَیۡدࣰا فَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُمُ ٱلۡأَخۡسَرِینَ ۝٧٠

For they wanted to plot against him, so We made them the biggest losers.

wa-arādū bihi kaydan fajaʿalnāhumu l-akhsarīn

وَنَجَّیۡنَـٰهُ وَلُوطًا إِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلَّتِی بَـٰرَكۡنَا فِیهَا لِلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٧١

And We delivered him and Lot to the land that We blessed for all (people of all) realms.

wanajjaynāhu walūṭan ilā l-arḍi allatī bāraknā fīhā lil'ʿālamīn

وَوَهَبۡنَا لَهُۥۤ إِسۡحَـٰقَ وَیَعۡقُوبَ نَافِلَةࣰۖ وَكُلࣰّا جَعَلۡنَا صَـٰلِحِینَ ۝٧٢

And We granted him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, and each We made righteous.

wawahabnā lahu is'ḥāqa wayaʿqūba nāfilatan wakullan jaʿalnā ṣāliḥīn

وَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُمۡ أَىِٕمَّةࣰ یَهۡدُونَ بِأَمۡرِنَا وَأَوۡحَیۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡهِمۡ فِعۡلَ ٱلۡخَیۡرَ ٰتِ وَإِقَامَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَإِیتَاۤءَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةِۖ وَكَانُوا۟ لَنَا عَـٰبِدِینَ ۝٧٣

And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them (the command of) performing good works and establishing the prayer and bringing the purifying charity, for of Us they were worshipers.

wajaʿalnāhum a-immatan yahdūna bi-amrinā wa-awḥaynā ilayhim fiʿ'la l-khayrāti wa-iqāma l-ṣalati waītāa l-zakati wakānū lanā ʿābidīn

وَلُوطًا ءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُ حُكۡمࣰا وَعِلۡمࣰا وَنَجَّیۡنَـٰهُ مِنَ ٱلۡقَرۡیَةِ ٱلَّتِی كَانَت تَّعۡمَلُ ٱلۡخَبَـٰۤىِٕثَۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ قَوۡمَ سَوۡءࣲ فَـٰسِقِینَ ۝٧٤

And Lot—We gave him wise judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the town that used to practice nasty things. They were indeed a wicked, defiantly disobedient people.

walūṭan ātaynāhu ḥuk'man waʿil'man wanajjaynāhu mina l-qaryati allatī kānat taʿmalu l-khabāitha innahum kānū qawma sawin fāsiqīn

وَأَدۡخَلۡنَـٰهُ فِی رَحۡمَتِنَاۤۖ إِنَّهُۥ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِینَ ۝٧٥

And We entered him into Our mercy; He is indeed one of the righteous.

wa-adkhalnāhu fī raḥmatinā innahu mina l-ṣāliḥīn

6 Righteous will inherit land

وَنُوحًا إِذۡ نَادَىٰ مِن قَبۡلُ فَٱسۡتَجَبۡنَا لَهُۥ فَنَجَّیۡنَـٰهُ وَأَهۡلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلۡكَرۡبِ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ ۝٧٦

And Noah, when he called before, so We responded to him and delivered him and his family from the great calamity.

wanūḥan idh nādā min qablu fa-is'tajabnā lahu fanajjaynāhu wa-ahlahu mina l-karbi l-ʿaẓīm

وَنَصَرۡنَـٰهُ مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَاۤۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ قَوۡمَ سَوۡءࣲ فَأَغۡرَقۡنَـٰهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِینَ ۝٧٧

And We supported him against the people who disbelieved Our Signs; indeed, they were a wicked people, so We drowned them all.

wanaṣarnāhu mina l-qawmi alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā innahum kānū qawma sawin fa-aghraqnāhum ajmaʿīn

وَدَاوُۥدَ وَسُلَیۡمَـٰنَ إِذۡ یَحۡكُمَانِ فِی ٱلۡحَرۡثِ إِذۡ نَفَشَتۡ فِیهِ غَنَمُ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ وَكُنَّا لِحُكۡمِهِمۡ شَـٰهِدِینَ ۝٧٨

And David and Solomon, when they gave judgment in the case of the field, when some people’s sheep wandered therein by night. And to their judgment We were witnesses.

wadāwūda wasulaymāna idh yaḥkumāni fī l-ḥarthi idh nafashat fīhi ghanamu l-qawmi wakunnā liḥuk'mihim shāhidīn

فَفَهَّمۡنَـٰهَا سُلَیۡمَـٰنَۚ وَكُلًّا ءَاتَیۡنَا حُكۡمࣰا وَعِلۡمࣰاۚ وَسَخَّرۡنَا مَعَ دَاوُۥدَ ٱلۡجِبَالَ یُسَبِّحۡنَ وَٱلطَّیۡرَۚ وَكُنَّا فَـٰعِلِینَ ۝٧٩

Yet We made Solomon understand it, and to each We gave wise judgment and knowledge. And We subjected the mountains to give (God) due exaltation along with David, and the birds as well—surely We did.

fafahhamnāhā sulaymāna wakullan ātaynā ḥuk'man waʿil'man wasakharnā maʿa dāwūda l-jibāla yusabbiḥ'na wal-ṭayra wakunnā fāʿilīn

وَعَلَّمۡنَـٰهُ صَنۡعَةَ لَبُوسࣲ لَّكُمۡ لِتُحۡصِنَكُم مِّنۢ بَأۡسِكُمۡۖ فَهَلۡ أَنتُمۡ شَـٰكِرُونَ ۝٨٠

And We taught him the making of shields for youpl, so that they may secure you from your violence, so are you then appreciative?

waʿallamnāhu ṣanʿata labūsin lakum lituḥ'ṣinakum min basikum fahal antum shākirūn

وَلِسُلَیۡمَـٰنَ ٱلرِّیحَ عَاصِفَةࣰ تَجۡرِی بِأَمۡرِهِۦۤ إِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلَّتِی بَـٰرَكۡنَا فِیهَاۚ وَكُنَّا بِكُلِّ شَیۡءٍ عَـٰلِمِینَ ۝٨١

And to Solomon the stormy wind, blowing at his command towards the land that We had blessed. And We well knew of everything.

walisulaymāna l-rīḥa ʿāṣifatan tajrī bi-amrihi ilā l-arḍi allatī bāraknā fīhā wakunnā bikulli shayin ʿālimīn

وَمِنَ ٱلشَّیَـٰطِینِ مَن یَغُوصُونَ لَهُۥ وَیَعۡمَلُونَ عَمَلࣰا دُونَ ذَ ٰلِكَۖ وَكُنَّا لَهُمۡ حَـٰفِظِینَ ۝٨٢

And of the devils were some that would dive for him and perform other, lesser tasks, but We were preserving of them.

wamina l-shayāṭīni man yaghūṣūna lahu wayaʿmalūna ʿamalan dūna dhālika wakunnā lahum ḥāfiẓīn

۞ وَأَیُّوبَ إِذۡ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥۤ أَنِّی مَسَّنِیَ ٱلضُّرُّ وَأَنتَ أَرۡحَمُ ٱلرَّ ٰحِمِینَ ۝٨٣

And Job, when he called upon his Lord: “Great harm has touched me, yet You are the Most Merciful of the merciful.”

wa-ayyūba idh nādā rabbahu annī massaniya l-ḍuru wa-anta arḥamu l-rāḥimīn

فَٱسۡتَجَبۡنَا لَهُۥ فَكَشَفۡنَا مَا بِهِۦ مِن ضُرࣲّۖ وَءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُ أَهۡلَهُۥ وَمِثۡلَهُم مَّعَهُمۡ رَحۡمَةࣰ مِّنۡ عِندِنَا وَذِكۡرَىٰ لِلۡعَـٰبِدِینَ ۝٨٤

So We responded to him and lifted the harm which had afflicted him, and We brought him his family and their like with them—a mercy from Us, and a reminding for the worshipers.

fa-is'tajabnā lahu fakashafnā mā bihi min ḍurrin waātaynāhu ahlahu wamith'lahum maʿahum raḥmatan min ʿindinā wadhik'rā lil'ʿābidīn

وَإِسۡمَـٰعِیلَ وَإِدۡرِیسَ وَذَا ٱلۡكِفۡلِۖ كُلࣱّ مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِینَ ۝٨٥

And Ishmael and Enoch and Ezekiel; each is one of the steadfast.

wa-is'māʿīla wa-id'rīsa wadhā l-kif'li kullun mina l-ṣābirīn

وَأَدۡخَلۡنَـٰهُمۡ فِی رَحۡمَتِنَاۤۖ إِنَّهُم مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِینَ ۝٨٦

And We entered them into Our mercy; indeed, they are of the righteous.

wa-adkhalnāhum fī raḥmatinā innahum mina l-ṣāliḥīn

وَذَا ٱلنُّونِ إِذ ذَّهَبَ مُغَـٰضِبࣰا فَظَنَّ أَن لَّن نَّقۡدِرَ عَلَیۡهِ فَنَادَىٰ فِی ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ أَن لَّاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّاۤ أَنتَ سُبۡحَـٰنَكَ إِنِّی كُنتُ مِنَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٨٧

And Jonah, when he went off angrily and he thought that We would not restrain him. But then He cried out in the darkness(es), “There is no god but You! Highly Exalted are You! Indeed, I have been one of the unjust!”

wadhā l-nūni idh dhahaba mughāḍiban faẓanna an lan naqdira ʿalayhi fanādā fī l-ẓulumāti an lā ilāha illā anta sub'ḥānaka innī kuntu mina l-ẓālimīn

فَٱسۡتَجَبۡنَا لَهُۥ وَنَجَّیۡنَـٰهُ مِنَ ٱلۡغَمِّۚ وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ نُۨجِی ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٨٨

So We responded to him and delivered him from stress, for thus We save the believers.

fa-is'tajabnā lahu wanajjaynāhu mina l-ghami wakadhālika nunjī l-mu'minīn

وَزَكَرِیَّاۤ إِذۡ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرۡنِی فَرۡدࣰا وَأَنتَ خَیۡرُ ٱلۡوَ ٰرِثِینَ ۝٨٩

And Zechariah, when he called out to his Lord, “My Lord, do not leave me solitary, while You are the best of inheritors.”

wazakariyyā idh nādā rabbahu rabbi lā tadharnī fardan wa-anta khayru l-wārithīn

فَٱسۡتَجَبۡنَا لَهُۥ وَوَهَبۡنَا لَهُۥ یَحۡیَىٰ وَأَصۡلَحۡنَا لَهُۥ زَوۡجَهُۥۤۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ یُسَـٰرِعُونَ فِی ٱلۡخَیۡرَ ٰتِ وَیَدۡعُونَنَا رَغَبࣰا وَرَهَبࣰاۖ وَكَانُوا۟ لَنَا خَـٰشِعِینَ ۝٩٠

So We responded to him and granted him John, and We rehabilitated his spouse for him. Indeed, they used to hasten towards good works and call upon Us wishfully and in awe, for they used to be reverent towards Us.

fa-is'tajabnā lahu wawahabnā lahu yaḥyā wa-aṣlaḥnā lahu zawjahu innahum kānū yusāriʿūna fī l-khayrāti wayadʿūnanā raghaban warahaban wakānū lanā khāshiʿīn

وَٱلَّتِیۤ أَحۡصَنَتۡ فَرۡجَهَا فَنَفَخۡنَا فِیهَا مِن رُّوحِنَا وَجَعَلۡنَـٰهَا وَٱبۡنَهَاۤ ءَایَةࣰ لِّلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٩١

And she who guarded her chastity, so We breathed into her of Our Spirit and made her and her son a sign to (all people of) all realms.

wa-allatī aḥṣanat farjahā fanafakhnā fīhā min rūḥinā wajaʿalnāhā wa-ib'nahā āyatan lil'ʿālamīn

إِنَّ هَـٰذِهِۦۤ أُمَّتُكُمۡ أُمَّةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ وَأَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمۡ فَٱعۡبُدُونِ ۝٩٢

Indeed, this community of yourspl is one community and I am your Lord, so worship Me.

inna hādhihi ummatukum ummatan wāḥidatan wa-anā rabbukum fa-uʿ'budūn

وَتَقَطَّعُوۤا۟ أَمۡرَهُم بَیۡنَهُمۡۖ كُلٌّ إِلَیۡنَا رَ ٰجِعُونَ ۝٩٣

But they tore themselves into sects; they are all returning to Us.

wataqaṭṭaʿū amrahum baynahum kullun ilaynā rājiʿūn

7 Allah always delivers Prophets

فَمَن یَعۡمَلۡ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَهُوَ مُؤۡمِنࣱ فَلَا كُفۡرَانَ لِسَعۡیِهِۦ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ كَـٰتِبُونَ ۝٩٤

So whoever does righteous deeds and is a believer—his endeavor will never be denied. And indeed, We are writing it down for him.

faman yaʿmal mina l-ṣāliḥāti wahuwa mu'minun falā kuf'rāna lisaʿyihi wa-innā lahu kātibūn

وَحَرَ ٰمٌ عَلَىٰ قَرۡیَةٍ أَهۡلَكۡنَـٰهَاۤ أَنَّهُمۡ لَا یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝٩٥

And there is a ban on any town that We have annihilated—that they do not return,

waḥarāmun ʿalā qaryatin ahlaknāhā annahum lā yarjiʿūn

حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا فُتِحَتۡ یَأۡجُوجُ وَمَأۡجُوجُ وَهُم مِّن كُلِّ حَدَبࣲ یَنسِلُونَ ۝٩٦

until, when Gog and Magog are opened, and they swarm down from every mound,

ḥattā idhā futiḥat yajūju wamajūju wahum min kulli ḥadabin yansilūn

وَٱقۡتَرَبَ ٱلۡوَعۡدُ ٱلۡحَقُّ فَإِذَا هِیَ شَـٰخِصَةٌ أَبۡصَـٰرُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ یَـٰوَیۡلَنَا قَدۡ كُنَّا فِی غَفۡلَةࣲ مِّنۡ هَـٰذَا بَلۡ كُنَّا ظَـٰلِمِینَ ۝٩٧

and the true promise has drawn near— then, the sight(s) of those who denied glaze over: “Woe to us. We have been oblivious to this. Rather, we were unjust.”

wa-iq'taraba l-waʿdu l-ḥaqu fa-idhā hiya shākhiṣatun abṣāru alladhīna kafarū yāwaylanā qad kunnā fī ghaflatin min hādhā bal kunnā ẓālimīn

إِنَّكُمۡ وَمَا تَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ حَصَبُ جَهَنَّمَ أَنتُمۡ لَهَا وَ ٰرِدُونَ ۝٩٨

Youpl and what you worship apart from Allah are indeed fuel for Hell. You are bound to approach it.

innakum wamā taʿbudūna min dūni l-lahi ḥaṣabu jahannama antum lahā wāridūn

لَوۡ كَانَ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ ءَالِهَةࣰ مَّا وَرَدُوهَاۖ وَكُلࣱّ فِیهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝٩٩

Had these been gods, they would not have approached it. And all will abide in it.

law kāna hāulāi ālihatan mā waradūhā wakullun fīhā khālidūn

لَهُمۡ فِیهَا زَفِیرࣱ وَهُمۡ فِیهَا لَا یَسۡمَعُونَ ۝١٠٠

In it they wail, and in it they do not hear.

lahum fīhā zafīrun wahum fīhā lā yasmaʿūn

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ سَبَقَتۡ لَهُم مِّنَّا ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰۤ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ عَنۡهَا مُبۡعَدُونَ ۝١٠١

Indeed, those who deserved goodness from Us—those are kept away from it.

inna alladhīna sabaqat lahum minnā l-ḥus'nā ulāika ʿanhā mub'ʿadūn

لَا یَسۡمَعُونَ حَسِیسَهَاۖ وَهُمۡ فِی مَا ٱشۡتَهَتۡ أَنفُسُهُمۡ خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝١٠٢

They do not hear its hissing, and in what their hearts have desired they abide.

lā yasmaʿūna ḥasīsahā wahum fī mā ish'tahat anfusuhum khālidūn

لَا یَحۡزُنُهُمُ ٱلۡفَزَعُ ٱلۡأَكۡبَرُ وَتَتَلَقَّىٰهُمُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ هَـٰذَا یَوۡمُكُمُ ٱلَّذِی كُنتُمۡ تُوعَدُونَ ۝١٠٣

The most supreme fear does not worry them, for the angels receive them: “This is yourpl day which you were promised.”

lā yaḥzunuhumu l-fazaʿu l-akbaru watatalaqqāhumu l-malāikatu hādhā yawmukumu alladhī kuntum tūʿadūn

یَوۡمَ نَطۡوِی ٱلسَّمَاۤءَ كَطَیِّ ٱلسِّجِلِّ لِلۡكُتُبِۚ كَمَا بَدَأۡنَاۤ أَوَّلَ خَلۡقࣲ نُّعِیدُهُۥۚ وَعۡدًا عَلَیۡنَاۤۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا فَـٰعِلِینَ ۝١٠٤

On the day when We fold the heaven as the scribe rolls up scriptures. Just as We began the first creation, We restore it—a promise from Us. We will indeed act.

yawma naṭwī l-samāa kaṭayyi l-sijili lil'kutubi kamā badanā awwala khalqin nuʿīduhu waʿdan ʿalaynā innā kunnā fāʿilīn

وَلَقَدۡ كَتَبۡنَا فِی ٱلزَّبُورِ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ ٱلذِّكۡرِ أَنَّ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ یَرِثُهَا عِبَادِیَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحُونَ ۝١٠٥

And most surely We have written in the Book, after the Reminder, that the land will be inherited by My righteous servants.

walaqad katabnā fī l-zabūri min baʿdi l-dhik'ri anna l-arḍa yarithuhā ʿibādiya l-ṣāliḥūn

إِنَّ فِی هَـٰذَا لَبَلَـٰغࣰا لِّقَوۡمٍ عَـٰبِدِینَ ۝١٠٦

Indeed, in this is a proclamation for people who are worshipers (of Allah).

inna fī hādhā labalāghan liqawmin ʿābidīn

وَمَاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَـٰكَ إِلَّا رَحۡمَةࣰ لِّلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝١٠٧

For We have not sent you but as a mercy to all realms.

wamā arsalnāka illā raḥmatan lil'ʿālamīn

قُلۡ إِنَّمَا یُوحَىٰۤ إِلَیَّ أَنَّمَاۤ إِلَـٰهُكُمۡ إِلَـٰهࣱ وَ ٰحِدࣱۖ فَهَلۡ أَنتُم مُّسۡلِمُونَ ۝١٠٨

Saysg, “It is revealed to me that yourpl God is but One God, so are you going to submit?”

qul innamā yūḥā ilayya annamā ilāhukum ilāhun wāḥidun fahal antum mus'limūn

فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡا۟ فَقُلۡ ءَاذَنتُكُمۡ عَلَىٰ سَوَاۤءࣲۖ وَإِنۡ أَدۡرِیۤ أَقَرِیبٌ أَم بَعِیدࣱ مَّا تُوعَدُونَ ۝١٠٩

But if they turn away, say, “I have informed you sufficiently, although I do not know whether what youpl are promised is near or far.

fa-in tawallaw faqul ādhantukum ʿalā sawāin wa-in adrī aqarībun am baʿīdun mā tūʿadūn

إِنَّهُۥ یَعۡلَمُ ٱلۡجَهۡرَ مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡلِ وَیَعۡلَمُ مَا تَكۡتُمُونَ ۝١١٠

Indeed, He knows whatever is said aloud of speech, and He knows whatever youpl conceal.

innahu yaʿlamu l-jahra mina l-qawli wayaʿlamu mā taktumūn

وَإِنۡ أَدۡرِی لَعَلَّهُۥ فِتۡنَةࣱ لَّكُمۡ وَمَتَـٰعٌ إِلَىٰ حِینࣲ ۝١١١

And I do not know whether it is perhaps a means of trial for youpl, and an enjoyment for a while.”

wa-in adrī laʿallahu fit'natun lakum wamatāʿun ilā ḥīni

قَـٰلَ رَبِّ ٱحۡكُم بِٱلۡحَقِّۗ وَرَبُّنَا ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ ٱلۡمُسۡتَعَانُ عَلَىٰ مَا تَصِفُونَ ۝١١٢

He said, “My Lord, judge with justice.” “For our Lord is the All-Merciful, Whose help is sought against what you allege.”

qāla rabbi uḥ'kum bil-ḥaqi warabbunā l-raḥmānu l-mus'taʿānu ʿalā mā taṣifūn
