It is He who revealed to you the Scripture. Some of its verses are definitive—they are the foundation of the Book—while others are allegorical. Those with deviant hearts pursue the allegorical, seeking discord and seeking its interpretation. However, none knows its interpretation except God and those firmly grounded in knowledge say, “We believe in it; all of it is from our Lord.” Only those endowed with understanding take heed.

As a messenger to the Children of Israel: “I bring you signs from your Lord. I create for you from clay the form of a bird, then I breathe into it, and by God’s permission, it becomes a bird. I heal the blind and the lepers, by God’s permission, and I revive the dead, by God’s permission. I inform you of what you eat and store in your homes. There is a sign for you in this, if you are believers.”

After the setback, He sent down tranquility upon you. A slumber overcame some of you, while others were concerned only about themselves, harboring misconceptions about God—thoughts of ignorance. They asked, “Do we have any say in the matter?” Say, “The entire affair rests with God.” They conceal within themselves what they don’t disclose to you. They say, “If we had control over the situation, we wouldn’t have been killed here.” Say, “Even if you had been inside your homes, those destined to be killed would have met their end.” Thus, God tests your inner selves and purifies your hearts. God is aware of the innermost thoughts.

Their Lord responded to them, “I won’t allow the work of any worker among you, whether male or female, be wasted. You are akin to each other. Those who emigrated, were expelled from their homes, suffered in My cause, fought, and were killed—I will absolve them of their misdeeds, and I will admit them into Gardens through which rivers flow. This is a reward from God, and with God lies the best reward.”
