44:2 ›
وَٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ ٱلۡمُبِینِ ۝٢
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
By the Scripture that maketh plain
wal-kitābi l-mubīn
44:3 ›
إِنَّاۤ أَنزَلۡنَـٰهُ فِی لَیۡلَةࣲ مُّبَـٰرَكَةٍۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِینَ ۝٣
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning
innā anzalnāhu fī laylatin mubārakatin innā kunnā mundhirīn
44:4 ›
فِیهَا یُفۡرَقُ كُلُّ أَمۡرٍ حَكِیمٍ ۝٤

Whereon every wise command is made clear
fīhā yuf'raqu kullu amrin ḥakīmi
44:5 ›
أَمۡرࣰا مِّنۡ عِندِنَاۤۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرۡسِلِینَ ۝٥
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending
amran min ʿindinā innā kunnā mur'silīn
44:6 ›
رَحۡمَةࣰ مِّن رَّبِّكَۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِیعُ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ۝٦
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower
raḥmatan min rabbika innahu huwa l-samīʿu l-ʿalīm
44:7 ›
رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَیۡنَهُمَاۤۖ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِینَ ۝٧
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure
rabbi l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wamā baynahumā in kuntum mūqinīn
44:8 ›
لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ یُحۡیِۦ وَیُمِیتُۖ رَبُّكُمۡ وَرَبُّ ءَابَاۤىِٕكُمُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٨
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers
lā ilāha illā huwa yuḥ'yī wayumītu rabbukum warabbu ābāikumu l-awalīn
44:9 ›
بَلۡ هُمۡ فِی شَكࣲّ یَلۡعَبُونَ ۝٩

Nay, but they play in doubt
bal hum fī shakkin yalʿabūn
44:10 ›
فَٱرۡتَقِبۡ یَوۡمَ تَأۡتِی ٱلسَّمَاۤءُ بِدُخَانࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝١٠
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smok
fa-ir'taqib yawma tatī l-samāu bidukhānin mubīni
44:11 ›
یَغۡشَى ٱلنَّاسَۖ هَـٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝١١
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment
yaghshā l-nāsa hādhā ʿadhābun alīmu
44:12 ›
رَّبَّنَا ٱكۡشِفۡ عَنَّا ٱلۡعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١٢
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
(Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers
rabbanā ik'shif ʿannā l-ʿadhāba innā mu'minūn
44:13 ›
أَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ وَقَدۡ جَاۤءَهُمۡ رَسُولࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝١٣
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them
annā lahumu l-dhik'rā waqad jāahum rasūlun mubīnu
44:14 ›
ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوۡا۟ عَنۡهُ وَقَالُوا۟ مُعَلَّمࣱ مَّجۡنُونٌ ۝١٤
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman
thumma tawallaw ʿanhu waqālū muʿallamun majnūnu
44:15 ›
إِنَّا كَاشِفُوا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابِ قَلِیلًاۚ إِنَّكُمۡ عَاۤىِٕدُونَ ۝١٥
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief)
innā kāshifū l-ʿadhābi qalīlan innakum ʿāidūn
44:16 ›
یَوۡمَ نَبۡطِشُ ٱلۡبَطۡشَةَ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰۤ إِنَّا مُنتَقِمُونَ ۝١٦
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish
yawma nabṭishu l-baṭshata l-kub'rā innā muntaqimūn
44:17 ›
۞ وَلَقَدۡ فَتَنَّا قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَجَاۤءَهُمۡ رَسُولࣱ كَرِیمٌ ۝١٧
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger
walaqad fatannā qablahum qawma fir'ʿawna wajāahum rasūlun karīmu
44:18 ›
أَنۡ أَدُّوۤا۟ إِلَیَّ عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِۖ إِنِّی لَكُمۡ رَسُولٌ أَمِینࣱ ۝١٨
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you
an addū ilayya ʿibāda l-lahi innī lakum rasūlun amīnu
44:19 ›
وَأَن لَّا تَعۡلُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِۖ إِنِّیۤ ءَاتِیكُم بِسُلۡطَـٰنࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝١٩
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant
wa-an lā taʿlū ʿalā l-lahi innī ātīkum bisul'ṭānin mubīni
44:20 ›
وَإِنِّی عُذۡتُ بِرَبِّی وَرَبِّكُمۡ أَن تَرۡجُمُونِ ۝٢٠
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death
wa-innī ʿudh'tu birabbī warabbikum an tarjumūn
44:21 ›
وَإِن لَّمۡ تُؤۡمِنُوا۟ لِی فَٱعۡتَزِلُونِ ۝٢١
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go
wa-in lam tu'minū lī fa-iʿ'tazilūn
44:22 ›
فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥۤ أَنَّ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ قَوۡمࣱ مُّجۡرِمُونَ ۝٢٢
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk
fadaʿā rabbahu anna hāulāi qawmun muj'rimūn
44:23 ›
فَأَسۡرِ بِعِبَادِی لَیۡلًا إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ ۝٢٣
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed
fa-asri biʿibādī laylan innakum muttabaʿūn
44:24 ›
وَٱتۡرُكِ ٱلۡبَحۡرَ رَهۡوًاۖ إِنَّهُمۡ جُندࣱ مُّغۡرَقُونَ ۝٢٤
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host
wa-ut'ruki l-baḥra rahwan innahum jundun mugh'raqūn
44:25 ›
كَمۡ تَرَكُوا۟ مِن جَنَّـٰتࣲ وَعُیُونࣲ ۝٢٥
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind
kam tarakū min jannātin waʿuyūni
44:26 ›
وَزُرُوعࣲ وَمَقَامࣲ كَرِیمࣲ ۝٢٦
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
And the cornlands and the goodly site
wazurūʿin wamaqāmin karīmi
44:27 ›
وَنَعۡمَةࣲ كَانُوا۟ فِیهَا فَـٰكِهِینَ ۝٢٧
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
And pleasant things wherein they took delight
wanaʿmatin kānū fīhā fākihīn
44:28 ›
كَذَ ٰلِكَۖ وَأَوۡرَثۡنَـٰهَا قَوۡمًا ءَاخَرِینَ ۝٢٨
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk
kadhālika wa-awrathnāhā qawman ākharīn
44:29 ›
فَمَا بَكَتۡ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلسَّمَاۤءُ وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُنظَرِینَ ۝٢٩
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved
famā bakat ʿalayhimu l-samāu wal-arḍu wamā kānū munẓarīn
2 Good and Evil Rewarded
44:30 ›
وَلَقَدۡ نَجَّیۡنَا بَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ مِنَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡمُهِینِ ۝٣٠
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
And We delivered the Children of Israel from the shameful doom
walaqad najjaynā banī is'rāīla mina l-ʿadhābi l-muhīn
44:31 ›
مِن فِرۡعَوۡنَۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَالِیࣰا مِّنَ ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِینَ ۝٣١
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
(We delivered them) from Pharaoh. Lo! he was a tyrant of the wanton ones
min fir'ʿawna innahu kāna ʿāliyan mina l-mus'rifīn
44:32 ›
وَلَقَدِ ٱخۡتَرۡنَـٰهُمۡ عَلَىٰ عِلۡمٍ عَلَى ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٣٢
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
And We chose them, purposely, above (all) creatures
walaqadi ikh'tarnāhum ʿalā ʿil'min ʿalā l-ʿālamīn
44:33 ›
وَءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ مَا فِیهِ بَلَـٰۤؤࣱا۟ مُّبِینٌ ۝٣٣
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
And We gave them portents wherein was a clear trial
waātaynāhum mina l-āyāti mā fīhi balāon mubīnu
44:34 ›
إِنَّ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ لَیَقُولُونَ ۝٣٤
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
Lo! these, forsooth, are saying
inna hāulāi layaqūlūn
44:35 ›
إِنۡ هِیَ إِلَّا مَوۡتَتُنَا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمُنشَرِینَ ۝٣٥
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
There is naught but our first death, and we shall not be raised again
in hiya illā mawtatunā l-ūlā wamā naḥnu bimunsharīn
44:36 ›
فَأۡتُوا۟ بِءَابَاۤىِٕنَاۤ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝٣٦
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
Bring back our fathers, if ye speak the truth
fatū biābāinā in kuntum ṣādiqīn
44:37 ›
أَهُمۡ خَیۡرٌ أَمۡ قَوۡمُ تُبَّعࣲ وَٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَـٰهُمۡۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ مُجۡرِمِینَ ۝٣٧
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
Are they better, or the folk of Tubb'a and those before them? We destroyed them, for surely they were guilty
ahum khayrun am qawmu tubbaʿin wa-alladhīna min qablihim ahlaknāhum innahum kānū muj'rimīn
44:38 ›
وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَیۡنَهُمَا لَـٰعِبِینَ ۝٣٨
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, in play
wamā khalaqnā l-samāwāti wal-arḍa wamā baynahumā lāʿibīn
44:39 ›
مَا خَلَقۡنَـٰهُمَاۤ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣٩
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
We created them not save with truth; but most of them know not
mā khalaqnāhumā illā bil-ḥaqi walākinna aktharahum lā yaʿlamūn
44:40 ›
إِنَّ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ مِیقَـٰتُهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِینَ ۝٤٠
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
Assuredly the Day of Decision is the term for all of them
inna yawma l-faṣli mīqātuhum ajmaʿīn
44:41 ›
یَوۡمَ لَا یُغۡنِی مَوۡلًى عَن مَّوۡلࣰى شَیۡءࣰا وَلَا هُمۡ یُنصَرُونَ ۝٤١
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
A day when friend can in naught avail friend, nor can they be helped
yawma lā yugh'nī mawlan ʿan mawlan shayan walā hum yunṣarūn
44:42 ›
إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ ٱللَّهُۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلۡعَزِیزُ ٱلرَّحِیمُ ۝٤٢
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
Save him on whom Allah hath mercy. Lo! He is the Mighty, the Merciful
illā man raḥima l-lahu innahu huwa l-ʿazīzu l-raḥīm
3 Good and Evil Rewarded
44:43 ›
إِنَّ شَجَرَتَ ٱلزَّقُّومِ ۝٤٣
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
Lo! the tree of Zaqqum
inna shajarata l-zaqūm
44:44 ›
طَعَامُ ٱلۡأَثِیمِ ۝٤٤
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
The food of the sinner
ṭaʿāmu l-athīm
44:45 ›
كَٱلۡمُهۡلِ یَغۡلِی فِی ٱلۡبُطُونِ ۝٤٥
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
Like molten brass, it seetheth in their bellie
kal-muh'li yaghlī fī l-buṭūn
44:46 ›
كَغَلۡیِ ٱلۡحَمِیمِ ۝٤٦
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
As the seething of boiling water
kaghalyi l-ḥamīm
44:47 ›
خُذُوهُ فَٱعۡتِلُوهُ إِلَىٰ سَوَاۤءِ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ۝٤٧
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
(And it will be said): Take him and drag him to the midst of hell
khudhūhu fa-iʿ'tilūhu ilā sawāi l-jaḥīm
44:48 ›
ثُمَّ صُبُّوا۟ فَوۡقَ رَأۡسِهِۦ مِنۡ عَذَابِ ٱلۡحَمِیمِ ۝٤٨
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
Then pour upon his head the torment of boiling water
thumma ṣubbū fawqa rasihi min ʿadhābi l-ḥamīm
44:49 ›
ذُقۡ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلۡعَزِیزُ ٱلۡكَرِیمُ ۝٤٩
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
(Saying): Taste! Lo! thou wast forsooth the mighty, the noble
dhuq innaka anta l-ʿazīzu l-karīm
44:50 ›
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَمۡتَرُونَ ۝٥٠
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
Lo! this is that whereof ye used to doubt
inna hādhā mā kuntum bihi tamtarūn
44:51 ›
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ فِی مَقَامٍ أَمِینࣲ ۝٥١
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
Lo! those who kept their duty will be in a place secured
inna l-mutaqīna fī maqāmin amīni
44:52 ›
فِی جَنَّـٰتࣲ وَعُیُونࣲ ۝٥٢
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
Amid gardens and watersprings
fī jannātin waʿuyūni
44:53 ›
یَلۡبَسُونَ مِن سُندُسࣲ وَإِسۡتَبۡرَقࣲ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِینَ ۝٥٣
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
Attired in silk and silk embroidery, facing one another
yalbasūna min sundusin wa-is'tabraqin mutaqābilīn
44:54 ›
كَذَ ٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجۡنَـٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِینࣲ ۝٥٤
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
Even so (it will be). And We shall wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes
kadhālika wazawwajnāhum biḥūrin ʿīni
44:55 ›
یَدۡعُونَ فِیهَا بِكُلِّ فَـٰكِهَةٍ ءَامِنِینَ ۝٥٥
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
They call therein for every fruit in safety
yadʿūna fīhā bikulli fākihatin āminīn
44:56 ›
لَا یَذُوقُونَ فِیهَا ٱلۡمَوۡتَ إِلَّا ٱلۡمَوۡتَةَ ٱلۡأُولَىٰۖ وَوَقَىٰهُمۡ عَذَابَ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ۝٥٦
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
They taste not death therein, save the first death. And He hath saved them from the doom of hell
lā yadhūqūna fīhā l-mawta illā l-mawtata l-ūlā wawaqāhum ʿadhāba l-jaḥīm
44:57 ›
فَضۡلࣰا مِّن رَّبِّكَۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِیمُ ۝٥٧
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
A bounty from thy Lord. That is the supreme triumph
faḍlan min rabbika dhālika huwa l-fawzu l-ʿaẓīm
44:58 ›
فَإِنَّمَا یَسَّرۡنَـٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَتَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٥٨
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
And We have made (this Scripture) easy in thy language only that they may heed
fa-innamā yassarnāhu bilisānika laʿallahum yatadhakkarūn
44:59 ›
فَٱرۡتَقِبۡ إِنَّهُم مُّرۡتَقِبُونَ ۝٥٩
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall
Wait then (O Muhammad). Lo! they (too) are waiting
fa-ir'taqib innahum mur'taqibūn
