The Jinn — Dr Mohammad Tahir Ul Qadri Translation

Say: ‘It has been revealed to me that a party of the jinn listened to (my recitation) carefully and then (went back to their people and) said: Surely, we have heard a wonderful Qur’an

qul ūḥiya ilayya annahu is'tamaʿa nafarun mina l-jini faqālū innā samiʿ'nā qur'ānan ʿajaba

72:2

یَهۡدِیۤ إِلَى ٱلرُّشۡدِ فَءَامَنَّا بِهِۦۖ وَلَن نُّشۡرِكَ بِرَبِّنَاۤ أَحَدࣰا ۝٢

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

It shows the path of guidance. So we have believed in it and will never set up any partner with our Lord

yahdī ilā l-rush'di faāmannā bihi walan nush'rika birabbinā aḥada

72:3

وَأَنَّهُۥ تَعَـٰلَىٰ جَدُّ رَبِّنَا مَا ٱتَّخَذَ صَـٰحِبَةࣰ وَلَا وَلَدࣰا ۝٣

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that exalted is the Glory of our Lord. He has taken for Himself neither any wife nor any children

wa-annahu taʿālā jaddu rabbinā mā ittakhadha ṣāḥibatan walā walada

72:4

وَأَنَّهُۥ كَانَ یَقُولُ سَفِیهُنَا عَلَى ٱللَّهِ شَطَطࣰا ۝٤

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that only a fool from amongst us used to utter things about Allah far from the truth, crossing bounds

wa-annahu kāna yaqūlu safīhunā ʿalā l-lahi shaṭaṭa

72:5

وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّاۤ أَن لَّن تَقُولَ ٱلۡإِنسُ وَٱلۡجِنُّ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبࣰا ۝٥

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that we thought that man and jinn would never tell a lie against Allah

wa-annā ẓanannā an lan taqūla l-insu wal-jinu ʿalā l-lahi kadhiba

72:6

وَأَنَّهُۥ كَانَ رِجَالࣱ مِّنَ ٱلۡإِنسِ یَعُوذُونَ بِرِجَالࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ فَزَادُوهُمۡ رَهَقࣰا ۝٦

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that some of the men used to take shelter with some of the jinn. So they increased defiance amongst the jinn

wa-annahu kāna rijālun mina l-insi yaʿūdhūna birijālin mina l-jini fazādūhum rahaqa

72:7

وَأَنَّهُمۡ ظَنُّوا۟ كَمَا ظَنَنتُمۡ أَن لَّن یَبۡعَثَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدࣰا ۝٧

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And, (O party of jinn,) those men also thought just as you thought that Allah would never raise up anyone (after death)

wa-annahum ẓannū kamā ẓanantum an lan yabʿatha l-lahu aḥada

72:8

وَأَنَّا لَمَسۡنَا ٱلسَّمَاۤءَ فَوَجَدۡنَـٰهَا مُلِئَتۡ حَرَسࣰا شَدِیدࣰا وَشُهُبࣰا ۝٨

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that we touched the heavens and found them filled with high-alert guards and stars shining and burning (like brands)

wa-annā lamasnā l-samāa fawajadnāhā muli-at ḥarasan shadīdan washuhuba

72:9

وَأَنَّا كُنَّا نَقۡعُدُ مِنۡهَا مَقَـٰعِدَ لِلسَّمۡعِۖ فَمَن یَسۡتَمِعِ ٱلۡءَانَ یَجِدۡ لَهُۥ شِهَابࣰا رَّصَدࣰا ۝٩

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that we used to sit on certain seats (in the heavens previously, to listen to the news), but if someone now seeks to listen, then he will find a flame of fire (waiting) for him in ambush

wa-annā kunnā naqʿudu min'hā maqāʿida lilssamʿi faman yastamiʿi l-āna yajid lahu shihāban raṣada

72:10

وَأَنَّا لَا نَدۡرِیۤ أَشَرٌّ أُرِیدَ بِمَن فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَمۡ أَرَادَ بِهِمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ رَشَدࣰا ۝١٠

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that we do not know whether some evil has been intended (by our restriction) in respect of those people who are in the earth, or their Lord intends some good for them

wa-annā lā nadrī asharrun urīda biman fī l-arḍi am arāda bihim rabbuhum rashada

72:11

وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلصَّـٰلِحُونَ وَمِنَّا دُونَ ذَ ٰلِكَۖ كُنَّا طَرَاۤىِٕقَ قِدَدࣰا ۝١١

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that amongst us are some who are pious and there are also some (evil) exceptions amongst us. We were (following) different ways

wa-annā minnā l-ṣāliḥūna waminnā dūna dhālika kunnā ṭarāiqa qidada

72:12

وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّاۤ أَن لَّن نُّعۡجِزَ ٱللَّهَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَن نُّعۡجِزَهُۥ هَرَبࣰا ۝١٢

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And we have ascertained that we can by no means come in the way of Allah (whilst living) in the earth, nor can we thwart Him by escaping (from the earth)

wa-annā ẓanannā an lan nuʿ'jiza l-laha fī l-arḍi walan nuʿ'jizahu haraba

72:13

وَأَنَّا لَمَّا سَمِعۡنَا ٱلۡهُدَىٰۤ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦۖ فَمَن یُؤۡمِنۢ بِرَبِّهِۦ فَلَا یَخَافُ بَخۡسࣰا وَلَا رَهَقࣰا ۝١٣

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that when we listened to (the Book of) Guidance, we believed in it. Then he who believes in his Lord fears neither loss nor injustice

wa-annā lammā samiʿ'nā l-hudā āmannā bihi faman yu'min birabbihi falā yakhāfu bakhsan walā rahaqa

72:14

وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلۡمُسۡلِمُونَ وَمِنَّا ٱلۡقَـٰسِطُونَۖ فَمَنۡ أَسۡلَمَ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ تَحَرَّوۡا۟ رَشَدࣰا ۝١٤

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that (some) of us are obedient and (some) of us are wrongdoers as well. So he who becomes obedient, it is they who seek righteousness

wa-annā minnā l-mus'limūna waminnā l-qāsiṭūna faman aslama fa-ulāika taḥarraw rashada

72:15

وَأَمَّا ٱلۡقَـٰسِطُونَ فَكَانُوا۟ لِجَهَنَّمَ حَطَبࣰا ۝١٥

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And as for the wrongdoers, they will be the fuel of Hell.

wa-ammā l-qāsiṭūna fakānū lijahannama ḥaṭaba

72:16

وَأَلَّوِ ٱسۡتَقَـٰمُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلطَّرِیقَةِ لَأَسۡقَیۡنَـٰهُم مَّاۤءً غَدَقࣰا ۝١٦

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And this (Revelation has also come to me) that if they had remained firm on the right path (the path of truth, the path of the remembrance of Allah), then We would have provided them with abundant water

wa-allawi is'taqāmū ʿalā l-ṭarīqati la-asqaynāhum māan ghadaqa

72:17

لِّنَفۡتِنَهُمۡ فِیهِۚ وَمَن یُعۡرِضۡ عَن ذِكۡرِ رَبِّهِۦ یَسۡلُكۡهُ عَذَابࣰا صَعَدࣰا ۝١٧

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

So that We put them to trial by this blessing. And whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord, He will cause him to enter a severe torment

linaftinahum fīhi waman yuʿ'riḍ ʿan dhik'ri rabbihi yasluk'hu ʿadhāban ṣaʿada

72:18

وَأَنَّ ٱلۡمَسَـٰجِدَ لِلَّهِ فَلَا تَدۡعُوا۟ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدࣰا ۝١٨

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that mosques are (specified) for Allah alone. So never worship anyone else besides Allah

wa-anna l-masājida lillahi falā tadʿū maʿa l-lahi aḥada

72:19

وَأَنَّهُۥ لَمَّا قَامَ عَبۡدُ ٱللَّهِ یَدۡعُوهُ كَادُوا۟ یَكُونُونَ عَلَیۡهِ لِبَدࣰا ۝١٩

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that when the servant of Allah (Muhammad [blessings and peace be upon him]) stood up to worship Him, they thronged around him (to listen to his recitation)

wa-annahu lammā qāma ʿabdu l-lahi yadʿūhu kādū yakūnūna ʿalayhi libada

72:20

قُلۡ إِنَّمَاۤ أَدۡعُوا۟ رَبِّی وَلَاۤ أُشۡرِكُ بِهِۦۤ أَحَدࣰا ۝٢٠

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Say: ‘I worship only my Lord and do not associate any partner with Him.

qul innamā adʿū rabbī walā ush'riku bihi aḥada

72:21

قُلۡ إِنِّی لَاۤ أَمۡلِكُ لَكُمۡ ضَرࣰّا وَلَا رَشَدࣰا ۝٢١

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Say: ‘I do not possess any power to do you harm (i.e., make you disbelieve) or to do you good (i.e., make you believe. So Allah is the real Lord. I am a mediator and means).

qul innī lā amliku lakum ḍarran walā rashada

72:22

قُلۡ إِنِّی لَن یُجِیرَنِی مِنَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدࣱ وَلَنۡ أَجِدَ مِن دُونِهِۦ مُلۡتَحَدًا ۝٢٢

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Say: ‘Neither can anyone shelter me from a torment (against the command) of Allah, nor can I ever find refuge apart from Him

qul innī lan yujīranī mina l-lahi aḥadun walan ajida min dūnihi mul'taḥada

72:23

إِلَّا بَلَـٰغࣰا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِسَـٰلَـٰتِهِۦۚ وَمَن یَعۡصِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَإِنَّ لَهُۥ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَاۤ أَبَدًا ۝٢٣

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

But (my responsibility is) to communicate from Allah His commands and messages. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him), surely there is for him the Fire of Hell in which they will live forever.

illā balāghan mina l-lahi warisālātihi waman yaʿṣi l-laha warasūlahu fa-inna lahu nāra jahannama khālidīna fīhā abada

72:24

حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا رَأَوۡا۟ مَا یُوعَدُونَ فَسَیَعۡلَمُونَ مَنۡ أَضۡعَفُ نَاصِرࣰا وَأَقَلُّ عَدَدࣰا ۝٢٤

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Until, when they will see that torment which is being promised to them, (then) they will come to know who is weaker in helpers and fewer in numbers

ḥattā idhā ra-aw mā yūʿadūna fasayaʿlamūna man aḍʿafu nāṣiran wa-aqallu ʿadada

72:25

قُلۡ إِنۡ أَدۡرِیۤ أَقَرِیبࣱ مَّا تُوعَدُونَ أَمۡ یَجۡعَلُ لَهُۥ رَبِّیۤ أَمَدًا ۝٢٥

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Say: ‘I do not know whether that (Day of Rising) which is being promised to you is near, or my Lord has appointed a longer term for that.

qul in adrī aqarībun mā tūʿadūna am yajʿalu lahu rabbī amada

72:26

عَـٰلِمُ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ فَلَا یُظۡهِرُ عَلَىٰ غَیۡبِهِۦۤ أَحَدًا ۝٢٦

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

(He is) the Knower of the unseen. So He does not inform any (common man) of His unseen

illā mani ir'taḍā min rasūlin fa-innahu yasluku min bayni yadayhi wamin khalfihi raṣada

72:27

إِلَّا مَنِ ٱرۡتَضَىٰ مِن رَّسُولࣲ فَإِنَّهُۥ یَسۡلُكُ مِنۢ بَیۡنِ یَدَیۡهِ وَمِنۡ خَلۡفِهِۦ رَصَدࣰا ۝٢٧

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Except for His Messengers with whom He is well-pleased (and reveals to them alone the unseen because that is an exclusive trait of Prophethood and a Messenger’s miracle as well). So indeed He appoints protectors at both front and rear of him (the Messenger, for the security of the knowledge of the unseen)

Illa mani irtada min rasoolin fa-innahu yasluku min bayni yadayhi wamin khalfihi rasadan

72:28

لِّیَعۡلَمَ أَن قَدۡ أَبۡلَغُوا۟ رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ وَأَحَاطَ بِمَا لَدَیۡهِمۡ وَأَحۡصَىٰ كُلَّ شَیۡءٍ عَدَدَۢا ۝٢٨

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

So that Allah may bring to light that surely they (the Messengers) have communicated the messages of their Lord, and Allah has (already) encompassed what they have (of Allah’s injunctions and the knowledge of the unseen) and He has kept count of everything

liyaʿlama an qad ablaghū risālāti rabbihim wa-aḥāṭa bimā ladayhim wa-aḥṣā kulla shayin ʿadada
