1 Foreign Believers

۞ قُلۡ أُوحِیَ إِلَیَّ أَنَّهُ ٱسۡتَمَعَ نَفَرࣱ مِّنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ فَقَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّا سَمِعۡنَا قُرۡءَانًا عَجَبࣰا ۝١

Say, "It has been revealed to me that a group of spirits listened and said, 'We have heard a wondrous Recital!

qul ūḥiya ilayya annahu is'tamaʿa nafarun mina l-jini faqālū innā samiʿ'nā qur'ānan ʿajaba

یَهۡدِیۤ إِلَى ٱلرُّشۡدِ فَءَامَنَّا بِهِۦۖ وَلَن نُّشۡرِكَ بِرَبِّنَاۤ أَحَدࣰا ۝٢

It guides to true direction, so we surely believe in it; and we do not equate anyone with our Lord.

yahdī ilā l-rush'di faāmannā bihi walan nush'rika birabbinā aḥada

وَأَنَّهُۥ تَعَـٰلَىٰ جَدُّ رَبِّنَا مَا ٱتَّخَذَ صَـٰحِبَةࣰ وَلَا وَلَدࣰا ۝٣

And exalted is the majesty of our Lord, who takes neither wife nor son.

wa-annahu taʿālā jaddu rabbinā mā ittakhadha ṣāḥibatan walā walada

وَأَنَّهُۥ كَانَ یَقُولُ سَفِیهُنَا عَلَى ٱللَّهِ شَطَطࣰا ۝٤

And the fools among us used to declaim extravagant lies against God;

wa-annahu kāna yaqūlu safīhunā ʿalā l-lahi shaṭaṭa

وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّاۤ أَن لَّن تَقُولَ ٱلۡإِنسُ وَٱلۡجِنُّ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبࣰا ۝٥

but we think no human or spirit should speak falsely of God.

wa-annā ẓanannā an lan taqūla l-insu wal-jinu ʿalā l-lahi kadhiba

وَأَنَّهُۥ كَانَ رِجَالࣱ مِّنَ ٱلۡإِنسِ یَعُوذُونَ بِرِجَالࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ فَزَادُوهُمۡ رَهَقࣰا ۝٦

Yet there were individual humans who resorted to individual spirits; but that increased their folly.

wa-annahu kāna rijālun mina l-insi yaʿūdhūna birijālin mina l-jini fazādūhum rahaqa

وَأَنَّهُمۡ ظَنُّوا۟ كَمَا ظَنَنتُمۡ أَن لَّن یَبۡعَثَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدࣰا ۝٧

And they came to suppose, as did you, that God would resurrect no one.

wa-annahum ẓannū kamā ẓanantum an lan yabʿatha l-lahu aḥada

وَأَنَّا لَمَسۡنَا ٱلسَّمَاۤءَ فَوَجَدۡنَـٰهَا مُلِئَتۡ حَرَسࣰا شَدِیدࣰا وَشُهُبࣰا ۝٨

And we pried into the secrets of heaven, but found it filled with steadfast guards and bluing fires.

wa-annā lamasnā l-samāa fawajadnāhā muli-at ḥarasan shadīdan washuhuba

وَأَنَّا كُنَّا نَقۡعُدُ مِنۡهَا مَقَـٰعِدَ لِلسَّمۡعِۖ فَمَن یَسۡتَمِعِ ٱلۡءَانَ یَجِدۡ لَهُۥ شِهَابࣰا رَّصَدࣰا ۝٩

â€˜And we used to sit in some of its seats to listen: but whoever listens now' will find a blaze lying in wait for him.

wa-annā kunnā naqʿudu min'hā maqāʿida lilssamʿi faman yastamiʿi l-āna yajid lahu shihāban raṣada

وَأَنَّا لَا نَدۡرِیۤ أَشَرٌّ أُرِیدَ بِمَن فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَمۡ أَرَادَ بِهِمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ رَشَدࣰا ۝١٠

And we do not know if ill is intended for the inhabitants of earth; or if their Lord intends right direction for them.

wa-annā lā nadrī asharrun urīda biman fī l-arḍi am arāda bihim rabbuhum rashada

وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلصَّـٰلِحُونَ وَمِنَّا دُونَ ذَ ٰلِكَۖ كُنَّا طَرَاۤىِٕقَ قِدَدࣰا ۝١١

And some of us are good, and some of us are otherwise: we are on divergent paths.

wa-annā minnā l-ṣāliḥūna waminnā dūna dhālika kunnā ṭarāiqa qidada

وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّاۤ أَن لَّن نُّعۡجِزَ ٱللَّهَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَن نُّعۡجِزَهُۥ هَرَبࣰا ۝١٢

And we consider ourselves unable to thwart God on earth; nor can we thwart God by fleeing.

wa-annā ẓanannā an lan nuʿ'jiza l-laha fī l-arḍi walan nuʿ'jizahu haraba

وَأَنَّا لَمَّا سَمِعۡنَا ٱلۡهُدَىٰۤ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦۖ فَمَن یُؤۡمِنۢ بِرَبِّهِۦ فَلَا یَخَافُ بَخۡسࣰا وَلَا رَهَقࣰا ۝١٣

And when we heard the Guidance, we believed in it: and whoever believes in their Lord will never be shortchanged and will not be oppressed.

wa-annā lammā samiʿ'nā l-hudā āmannā bihi faman yu'min birabbihi falā yakhāfu bakhsan walā rahaqa

وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلۡمُسۡلِمُونَ وَمِنَّا ٱلۡقَـٰسِطُونَۖ فَمَنۡ أَسۡلَمَ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ تَحَرَّوۡا۟ رَشَدࣰا ۝١٤

And among us are some who surrender to God, and some who act unjustly. And those who have surrendered to God, they seek right direction;

wa-annā minnā l-mus'limūna waminnā l-qāsiṭūna faman aslama fa-ulāika taḥarraw rashada

وَأَمَّا ٱلۡقَـٰسِطُونَ فَكَانُوا۟ لِجَهَنَّمَ حَطَبࣰا ۝١٥

while those who act unjustly, they are the firewood of hell.â€

wa-ammā l-qāsiṭūna fakānū lijahannama ḥaṭaba

وَأَلَّوِ ٱسۡتَقَـٰمُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلطَّرِیقَةِ لَأَسۡقَیۡنَـٰهُم مَّاۤءً غَدَقࣰا ۝١٦

And [say] that if they had gone straight on the Path, We would have given them plenty of water,

wa-allawi is'taqāmū ʿalā l-ṭarīqati la-asqaynāhum māan ghadaqa

لِّنَفۡتِنَهُمۡ فِیهِۚ وَمَن یُعۡرِضۡ عَن ذِكۡرِ رَبِّهِۦ یَسۡلُكۡهُ عَذَابࣰا صَعَدࣰا ۝١٧

that We might try them thereby. And whoever turn away from mention of their Lord, God sends to a torment severe.

linaftinahum fīhi waman yuʿ'riḍ ʿan dhik'ri rabbihi yasluk'hu ʿadhāban ṣaʿada

وَأَنَّ ٱلۡمَسَـٰجِدَ لِلَّهِ فَلَا تَدۡعُوا۟ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدࣰا ۝١٨

And [say] that the houses of worship are for the only God, so do not invoke anyone together with God;

wa-anna l-masājida lillahi falā tadʿū maʿa l-lahi aḥada

وَأَنَّهُۥ لَمَّا قَامَ عَبۡدُ ٱللَّهِ یَدۡعُوهُ كَادُوا۟ یَكُونُونَ عَلَیۡهِ لِبَدࣰا ۝١٩

and that when the servant of God stands to all upon God. they have nearly become suffocating to him.

wa-annahu lammā qāma ʿabdu l-lahi yadʿūhu kādū yakūnūna ʿalayhi libada

2 Protection of Revelation

قُلۡ إِنَّمَاۤ أَدۡعُوا۟ رَبِّی وَلَاۤ أُشۡرِكُ بِهِۦۤ أَحَدࣰا ۝٢٠

Say, â€œI call only on my Lord. with whom I associate no one."

qul innamā adʿū rabbī walā ush'riku bihi aḥada

قُلۡ إِنِّی لَاۤ أَمۡلِكُ لَكُمۡ ضَرࣰّا وَلَا رَشَدࣰا ۝٢١

Say, "I have no power in me to do you ill or guide you right.â€

qul innī lā amliku lakum ḍarran walā rashada

قُلۡ إِنِّی لَن یُجِیرَنِی مِنَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدࣱ وَلَنۡ أَجِدَ مِن دُونِهِۦ مُلۡتَحَدًا ۝٢٢

Say. "No one can deliver me from God, and I will find no refuge apart from God,

qul innī lan yujīranī mina l-lahi aḥadun walan ajida min dūnihi mul'taḥada

إِلَّا بَلَـٰغࣰا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِسَـٰلَـٰتِهِۦۚ وَمَن یَعۡصِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَإِنَّ لَهُۥ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَاۤ أَبَدًا ۝٢٣

"except reporting from God and Godâ€™s messages. And for whoever disobeys God and God's envoy, there is the fire of hell, wherein they remain forever,"

illā balāghan mina l-lahi warisālātihi waman yaʿṣi l-laha warasūlahu fa-inna lahu nāra jahannama khālidīna fīhā abada

حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا رَأَوۡا۟ مَا یُوعَدُونَ فَسَیَعۡلَمُونَ مَنۡ أَضۡعَفُ نَاصِرࣰا وَأَقَلُّ عَدَدࣰا ۝٢٤

until, that is, they see what they were promised: and they will know who is weaker in helpers and who is smaller in numbers.

ḥattā idhā ra-aw mā yūʿadūna fasayaʿlamūna man aḍʿafu nāṣiran wa-aqallu ʿadada

قُلۡ إِنۡ أَدۡرِیۤ أَقَرِیبࣱ مَّا تُوعَدُونَ أَمۡ یَجۡعَلُ لَهُۥ رَبِّیۤ أَمَدًا ۝٢٥

Say, "I do not know if what you are promised is near, or if my Lord has set it a distant time,

qul in adrī aqarībun mā tūʿadūna am yajʿalu lahu rabbī amada

عَـٰلِمُ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ فَلَا یُظۡهِرُ عَلَىٰ غَیۡبِهِۦۤ أَحَدًا ۝٢٦

â€œknowing the unseen: God does not reveal the unseen mystery divine to anyone at all,

illā mani ir'taḍā min rasūlin fa-innahu yasluku min bayni yadayhi wamin khalfihi raṣada

إِلَّا مَنِ ٱرۡتَضَىٰ مِن رَّسُولࣲ فَإِنَّهُۥ یَسۡلُكُ مِنۢ بَیۡنِ یَدَیۡهِ وَمِنۡ خَلۡفِهِۦ رَصَدࣰا ۝٢٧

â€œexcept a Messenger with whom God is pleased; and God sends forth observers before and behind him,

Illa mani irtada min rasoolin fa-innahu yasluku min bayni yadayhi wamin khalfihi rasadan

لِّیَعۡلَمَ أَن قَدۡ أَبۡلَغُوا۟ رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ وَأَحَاطَ بِمَا لَدَیۡهِمۡ وَأَحۡصَىٰ كُلَّ شَیۡءٍ عَدَدَۢا ۝٢٨

â€œin order to know if he has delivered the messages of their Lord. And God encompasses all that is with them, and takes account of every single thing."

liyaʿlama an qad ablaghū risālāti rabbihim wa-aḥāṭa bimā ladayhim wa-aḥṣā kulla shayin ʿadada
