1 The Battle of Badr

۞ یَسۡءَلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلۡأَنفَالِۖ قُلِ ٱلۡأَنفَالُ لِلَّهِ وَٱلرَّسُولِۖ فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَصۡلِحُوا۟ ذَاتَ بَیۡنِكُمۡۖ وَأَطِیعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥۤ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١

They ask yousg about the spoils (of war). Say, “The spoils are for Allah and the Messenger, so bepl mindful of Allah and reconcile between yourselves and obey Allah and His Messenger, if you are believers.”

yasalūnaka ʿani l-anfāli quli l-anfālu lillahi wal-rasūli fa-ittaqū l-laha wa-aṣliḥū dhāta baynikum wa-aṭīʿū l-laha warasūlahu in kuntum mu'minīn

إِنَّمَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ ٱلَّذِینَ إِذَا ذُكِرَ ٱللَّهُ وَجِلَتۡ قُلُوبُهُمۡ وَإِذَا تُلِیَتۡ عَلَیۡهِمۡ ءَایَـٰتُهُۥ زَادَتۡهُمۡ إِیمَـٰنࣰا وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡ یَتَوَكَّلُونَ ۝٢

Surely, the believers are but those whose hearts tremble when Allah is mentioned, and when His signs are read to them they increase them in faith, and in their Lord they place their trust—

innamā l-mu'minūna alladhīna idhā dhukira l-lahu wajilat qulūbuhum wa-idhā tuliyat ʿalayhim āyātuhu zādathum īmānan waʿalā rabbihim yatawakkalūn

ٱلَّذِینَ یُقِیمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقۡنَـٰهُمۡ یُنفِقُونَ ۝٣

the ones who establish the prayer and from what We have provided them they spend.

alladhīna yuqīmūna l-ṣalata wamimmā razaqnāhum yunfiqūn

أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ حَقࣰّاۚ لَّهُمۡ دَرَجَـٰتٌ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡ وَمَغۡفِرَةࣱ وَرِزۡقࣱ كَرِیمࣱ ۝٤

Those are truly the believers; for them are degrees (of rank) with their Lord and forgiveness and noble provision.

ulāika humu l-mu'minūna ḥaqqan lahum darajātun ʿinda rabbihim wamaghfiratun wariz'qun karīmu

كَمَاۤ أَخۡرَجَكَ رَبُّكَ مِنۢ بَیۡتِكَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَإِنَّ فَرِیقࣰا مِّنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ لَكَـٰرِهُونَ ۝٥

Just as when yoursg Lord brought you out of your house with the truth, while a group of believers were definitely reluctant,

kamā akhrajaka rabbuka min baytika bil-ḥaqi wa-inna farīqan mina l-mu'minīna lakārihūn

یُجَـٰدِلُونَكَ فِی ٱلۡحَقِّ بَعۡدَ مَا تَبَیَّنَ كَأَنَّمَا یُسَاقُونَ إِلَى ٱلۡمَوۡتِ وَهُمۡ یَنظُرُونَ ۝٦

arguing with you about the truth after it became evident, as if they were being driven to death while they looked on.

yujādilūnaka fī l-ḥaqi baʿdamā 0 tabayyana ka-annamā yusāqūna ilā l-mawti wahum yanẓurūn

وَإِذۡ یَعِدُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ إِحۡدَى ٱلطَّاۤىِٕفَتَیۡنِ أَنَّهَا لَكُمۡ وَتَوَدُّونَ أَنَّ غَیۡرَ ذَاتِ ٱلشَّوۡكَةِ تَكُونُ لَكُمۡ وَیُرِیدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن یُحِقَّ ٱلۡحَقَّ بِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦ وَیَقۡطَعَ دَابِرَ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٧

And recall: Allah promising youpl one of the two factions—that it would be yours, and you wishing that the unarmed group be yours. Yet Allah wants to uphold the truth with His words and to uproot the deniers

wa-idh yaʿidukumu l-lahu iḥ'dā l-ṭāifatayni annahā lakum watawaddūna anna ghayra dhāti l-shawkati takūnu lakum wayurīdu l-lahu an yuḥiqqa l-ḥaqa bikalimātihi wayaqṭaʿa dābira l-kāfirīn

لِیُحِقَّ ٱلۡحَقَّ وَیُبۡطِلَ ٱلۡبَـٰطِلَ وَلَوۡ كَرِهَ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ ۝٨

in order to uphold the truth and nullify falsehood, even if the criminals dislike it.

liyuḥiqqa l-ḥaqa wayub'ṭila l-bāṭila walaw kariha l-muj'rimūn

إِذۡ تَسۡتَغِیثُونَ رَبَّكُمۡ فَٱسۡتَجَابَ لَكُمۡ أَنِّی مُمِدُّكُم بِأَلۡفࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةِ مُرۡدِفِینَ ۝٩

Recall: you crying for help from your Lord, so He responded to you, “I am surely reinforcing you with one thousand angels in succession.”

idh tastaghīthūna rabbakum fa-is'tajāba lakum annī mumiddukum bi-alfin mina l-malāikati mur'difīn

وَمَا جَعَلَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِلَّا بُشۡرَىٰ وَلِتَطۡمَىِٕنَّ بِهِۦ قُلُوبُكُمۡۚ وَمَا ٱلنَّصۡرُ إِلَّا مِنۡ عِندِ ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِیزٌ حَكِیمٌ ۝١٠

And Allah only made it as a glad tiding, and so that your hearts should become serene thereby, for support is only from Allah; indeed, Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.

wamā jaʿalahu l-lahu illā bush'rā walitaṭma-inna bihi qulūbukum wamā l-naṣru illā min ʿindi l-lahi inna l-laha ʿazīzun ḥakīmu

2 The Battle of Badr

إِذۡ یُغَشِّیكُمُ ٱلنُّعَاسَ أَمَنَةࣰ مِّنۡهُ وَیُنَزِّلُ عَلَیۡكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰ لِّیُطَهِّرَكُم بِهِۦ وَیُذۡهِبَ عَنكُمۡ رِجۡزَ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنِ وَلِیَرۡبِطَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِكُمۡ وَیُثَبِّتَ بِهِ ٱلۡأَقۡدَامَ ۝١١

Recall: (Allah) covering youpl tightly with drowsiness, as security from Him, and bestowing upon you water from the sky to purify you with it and to remove from you Satan’s distress and to fortify your hearts and to strengthen your foothold.

idh yughashīkumu l-nuʿāsa amanatan min'hu wayunazzilu ʿalaykum mina l-samāi māan liyuṭahhirakum bihi wayudh'hiba ʿankum rij'za l-shayṭāni waliyarbiṭa ʿalā qulūbikum wayuthabbita bihi l-aqdām

إِذۡ یُوحِی رَبُّكَ إِلَى ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةِ أَنِّی مَعَكُمۡ فَثَبِّتُوا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ۚ سَأُلۡقِی فِی قُلُوبِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱلرُّعۡبَ فَٱضۡرِبُوا۟ فَوۡقَ ٱلۡأَعۡنَاقِ وَٱضۡرِبُوا۟ مِنۡهُمۡ كُلَّ بَنَانࣲ ۝١٢

Recall: yoursg Lord revealing to the angels, “Surely, I am with youpl, so support those who have attained faith. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who have denied, so strike above the necks and strike off every fingertip of theirs.”

idh yūḥī rabbuka ilā l-malāikati annī maʿakum fathabbitū alladhīna āmanū sa-ul'qī fī qulūbi alladhīna kafarū l-ruʿ'ba fa-iḍ'ribū fawqa l-aʿnāqi wa-iḍ'ribū min'hum kulla banāni

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ شَاۤقُّوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥۚ وَمَن یُشَاقِقِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِیدُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ ۝١٣

That is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger, and whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger—then indeed Allah is stern in retribution.

dhālika bi-annahum shāqqū l-laha warasūlahu waman yushāqiqi l-laha warasūlahu fa-inna l-laha shadīdu l-ʿiqāb

ذَ ٰلِكُمۡ فَذُوقُوهُ وَأَنَّ لِلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ ۝١٤

“There it is, so tastepl it.” And (know) that for the deniers is the punishment of the Fire.

dhālikum fadhūqūhu wa-anna lil'kāfirīna ʿadhāba l-nār

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِذَا لَقِیتُمُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ زَحۡفࣰا فَلَا تُوَلُّوهُمُ ٱلۡأَدۡبَارَ ۝١٥

O you who have attained faith, when you encounter those who have denied on the march, never turn your backs to them.

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū idhā laqītumu alladhīna kafarū zaḥfan falā tuwallūhumu l-adbār

وَمَن یُوَلِّهِمۡ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ دُبُرَهُۥۤ إِلَّا مُتَحَرِّفࣰا لِّقِتَالٍ أَوۡ مُتَحَیِّزًا إِلَىٰ فِئَةࣲ فَقَدۡ بَاۤءَ بِغَضَبࣲ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَمَأۡوَىٰهُ جَهَنَّمُۖ وَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡمَصِیرُ ۝١٦

For whoever turns his back to them on that day, except while maneuvering for combat or to side with another battalion, then he has surely incurred wrath from Allah, and his shelter is Hell—and what a miserable destiny!

waman yuwallihim yawma-idhin duburahu illā mutaḥarrifan liqitālin aw mutaḥayyizan ilā fi-atin faqad bāa bighaḍabin mina l-lahi wamawāhu jahannamu wabi'sa l-maṣīr

فَلَمۡ تَقۡتُلُوهُمۡ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَتَلَهُمۡۚ وَمَا رَمَیۡتَ إِذۡ رَمَیۡتَ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ رَمَىٰ وَلِیُبۡلِیَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ مِنۡهُ بَلَاۤءً حَسَنًاۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَمِیعٌ عَلِیمࣱ ۝١٧

For it was not youpl who killed them, but it was Allah who killed them. And yousg threw not when you threw, but it was Allah who threw, and so that He might test the believers with a goodly test (of victory) from Him; indeed, Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

falam taqtulūhum walākinna l-laha qatalahum wamā ramayta idh ramayta walākinna l-laha ramā waliyub'liya l-mu'minīna min'hu balāan ḥasanan inna l-laha samīʿun ʿalīmu

ذَ ٰلِكُمۡ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مُوهِنُ كَیۡدِ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝١٨

Such is the case. And surely, Allah will weaken the plot of the deniers.

dhālikum wa-anna l-laha mūhinu kaydi l-kāfirīn

إِن تَسۡتَفۡتِحُوا۟ فَقَدۡ جَاۤءَكُمُ ٱلۡفَتۡحُۖ وَإِن تَنتَهُوا۟ فَهُوَ خَیۡرࣱ لَّكُمۡۖ وَإِن تَعُودُوا۟ نَعُدۡ وَلَن تُغۡنِیَ عَنكُمۡ فِئَتُكُمۡ شَیۡءࣰا وَلَوۡ كَثُرَتۡ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١٩

“If youpl desire a conquest, then the conquest has come to you; and if you desist, it would be better for you. But if you return, We will return; and your battalion, however numerous, will not avail you in anything. And (know) that Allah is with the believers.”

in tastaftiḥū faqad jāakumu l-fatḥu wa-in tantahū fahuwa khayrun lakum wa-in taʿūdū naʿud walan tugh'niya ʿankum fi-atukum shayan walaw kathurat wa-anna l-laha maʿa l-mu'minīn

3 The Way to Success

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ أَطِیعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَلَا تَوَلَّوۡا۟ عَنۡهُ وَأَنتُمۡ تَسۡمَعُونَ ۝٢٠

O you who have attained faith, obey Allah and His Messenger and do not turn away from him while you hear.

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū aṭīʿū l-laha warasūlahu walā tawallaw ʿanhu wa-antum tasmaʿūn

وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِینَ قَالُوا۟ سَمِعۡنَا وَهُمۡ لَا یَسۡمَعُونَ ۝٢١

And be not like those who said, “We have heard,” but they hear not.

walā takūnū ka-alladhīna qālū samiʿ'nā wahum lā yasmaʿūn

۞ إِنَّ شَرَّ ٱلدَّوَاۤبِّ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلصُّمُّ ٱلۡبُكۡمُ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٢٢

Indeed, the worst of the treading creatures to Allah are the deaf and dumb—those who do not reason.

inna sharra l-dawābi ʿinda l-lahi l-ṣumu l-buk'mu alladhīna lā yaʿqilūn

وَلَوۡ عَلِمَ ٱللَّهُ فِیهِمۡ خَیۡرࣰا لَّأَسۡمَعَهُمۡۖ وَلَوۡ أَسۡمَعَهُمۡ لَتَوَلَّوا۟ وَّهُم مُّعۡرِضُونَ ۝٢٣

And had Allah known any good in them, He would have made them hear. And had He made them hear, they would have turned away in disregard.

walaw ʿalima l-lahu fīhim khayran la-asmaʿahum walaw asmaʿahum latawallaw wahum muʿ'riḍūn

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱسۡتَجِیبُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ إِذَا دَعَاكُمۡ لِمَا یُحۡیِیكُمۡۖ وَٱعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ یَحُولُ بَیۡنَ ٱلۡمَرۡءِ وَقَلۡبِهِۦ وَأَنَّهُۥۤ إِلَیۡهِ تُحۡشَرُونَ ۝٢٤

O you who have attained faith, respond to Allah and to the Messenger when He calls you to that which revives you, and know that Allah stands between a person and his heart, and that to Him you are herded.

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū is'tajībū lillahi walilrrasūli idhā daʿākum limā yuḥ'yīkum wa-iʿ'lamū anna l-laha yaḥūlu bayna l-mari waqalbihi wa-annahu ilayhi tuḥ'sharūn

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ فِتۡنَةࣰ لَّا تُصِیبَنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مِنكُمۡ خَاۤصَّةࣰۖ وَٱعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِیدُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ ۝٢٥

And protect yourselves against a trial which does not befall exclusively those who did injustice among you, and know that Allah is stern in retribution.

wa-ittaqū fit'natan lā tuṣībanna alladhīna ẓalamū minkum khāṣṣatan wa-iʿ'lamū anna l-laha shadīdu l-ʿiqāb

وَٱذۡكُرُوۤا۟ إِذۡ أَنتُمۡ قَلِیلࣱ مُّسۡتَضۡعَفُونَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ تَخَافُونَ أَن یَتَخَطَّفَكُمُ ٱلنَّاسُ فَءَاوَىٰكُمۡ وَأَیَّدَكُم بِنَصۡرِهِۦ وَرَزَقَكُم مِّنَ ٱلطَّیِّبَـٰتِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٢٦

And call to mind when you were few, (and) deemed weak and oppressed in the land, fearing that people may capture you, but He sheltered you and aided you with His support and provided you with good things, that you may give thanks.

wa-udh'kurū idh antum qalīlun mus'taḍʿafūna fī l-arḍi takhāfūna an yatakhaṭṭafakumu l-nāsu faāwākum wa-ayyadakum binaṣrihi warazaqakum mina l-ṭayibāti laʿallakum tashkurūn

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَخُونُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلرَّسُولَ وَتَخُونُوۤا۟ أَمَـٰنَـٰتِكُمۡ وَأَنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٢٧

O you who have attained faith, do not betray Allah and the Messenger, nor betray your trusts while you know.

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū lā takhūnū l-laha wal-rasūla watakhūnū amānātikum wa-antum taʿlamūn

وَٱعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّمَاۤ أَمۡوَ ٰلُكُمۡ وَأَوۡلَـٰدُكُمۡ فِتۡنَةࣱ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ عِندَهُۥۤ أَجۡرٌ عَظِیمࣱ ۝٢٨

And know that your possessions and your children are but a means of trial, and that Allah possesses a great reward.

wa-iʿ'lamū annamā amwālukum wa-awlādukum fit'natun wa-anna l-laha ʿindahu ajrun ʿaẓīmu

4 Muslims to be Guardians of the Sacred Mosque

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِن تَتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ یَجۡعَل لَّكُمۡ فُرۡقَانࣰا وَیُكَفِّرۡ عَنكُمۡ سَیِّءَاتِكُمۡ وَیَغۡفِرۡ لَكُمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ ذُو ٱلۡفَضۡلِ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ ۝٢٩

O you who have attained faith, if you become mindful of Allah, He will give you a criterion and will remit your evil deeds for you and will forgive you. For Allah is the Possessor of great grace.

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū in tattaqū l-laha yajʿal lakum fur'qānan wayukaffir ʿankum sayyiātikum wayaghfir lakum wal-lahu dhū l-faḍli l-ʿaẓīm

وَإِذۡ یَمۡكُرُ بِكَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِیُثۡبِتُوكَ أَوۡ یَقۡتُلُوكَ أَوۡ یُخۡرِجُوكَۚ وَیَمۡكُرُونَ وَیَمۡكُرُ ٱللَّهُۖ وَٱللَّهُ خَیۡرُ ٱلۡمَـٰكِرِینَ ۝٣٠

And recall: the deniers scheming against yousg to imprison you or kill you or evict you. And they scheme and Allah schemes, but Allah is the best of schemers.

wa-idh yamkuru bika alladhīna kafarū liyuth'bitūka aw yaqtulūka aw yukh'rijūka wayamkurūna wayamkuru l-lahu wal-lahu khayru l-mākirīn

وَإِذَا تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡهِمۡ ءَایَـٰتُنَا قَالُوا۟ قَدۡ سَمِعۡنَا لَوۡ نَشَاۤءُ لَقُلۡنَا مِثۡلَ هَـٰذَاۤ إِنۡ هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّاۤ أَسَـٰطِیرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٣١

And when Our signs are read to them, they say, “We have surely heard. Had we willed, we could have said the like of this; this is nothing but legends of the ancients.”

wa-idhā tut'lā ʿalayhim āyātunā qālū qad samiʿ'nā law nashāu laqul'nā mith'la hādhā in hādhā illā asāṭīru l-awalīn

وَإِذۡ قَالُوا۟ ٱللَّهُمَّ إِن كَانَ هَـٰذَا هُوَ ٱلۡحَقَّ مِنۡ عِندِكَ فَأَمۡطِرۡ عَلَیۡنَا حِجَارَةࣰ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ أَوِ ٱئۡتِنَا بِعَذَابٍ أَلِیمࣲ ۝٣٢

And recall when they said, “Our God, if this is the truth from You, then rain down upon us stones from the sky or bring us a painful punishment.”

wa-idh qālū l-lahuma in kāna hādhā huwa l-ḥaqa min ʿindika fa-amṭir ʿalaynā ḥijāratan mina l-samāi awi i'tinā biʿadhābin alīmi

وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِیُعَذِّبَهُمۡ وَأَنتَ فِیهِمۡۚ وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمۡ وَهُمۡ یَسۡتَغۡفِرُونَ ۝٣٣

But never would Allah punish them while yousg are amongst them. And never was Allah to punish them as long as they seek forgiveness.

wamā kāna l-lahu liyuʿadhibahum wa-anta fīhim wamā kāna l-lahu muʿadhibahum wahum yastaghfirūn

وَمَا لَهُمۡ أَلَّا یُعَذِّبَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَهُمۡ یَصُدُّونَ عَنِ ٱلۡمَسۡجِدِ ٱلۡحَرَامِ وَمَا كَانُوۤا۟ أَوۡلِیَاۤءَهُۥۤۚ إِنۡ أَوۡلِیَاۤؤُهُۥۤ إِلَّا ٱلۡمُتَّقُونَ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣٤

Yet why should Allah not punish them when they bar others from the Inviolable Mosque, though they are not its guardians? Rather its guardians are none except the mindful (of God), but most of them do not know.

wamā lahum allā yuʿadhibahumu l-lahu wahum yaṣuddūna ʿani l-masjidi l-ḥarāmi wamā kānū awliyāahu in awliyāuhu illā l-mutaqūna walākinna aktharahum lā yaʿlamūn

وَمَا كَانَ صَلَاتُهُمۡ عِندَ ٱلۡبَیۡتِ إِلَّا مُكَاۤءࣰ وَتَصۡدِیَةࣰۚ فَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡفُرُونَ ۝٣٥

And their prayer at the House was nothing but whistling and clapping—so tastepl the punishment for what you used to deny.

wamā kāna ṣalātuhum ʿinda l-bayti illā mukāan wataṣdiyatan fadhūqū l-ʿadhāba bimā kuntum takfurūn

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ یُنفِقُونَ أَمۡوَ ٰلَهُمۡ لِیَصُدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِۚ فَسَیُنفِقُونَهَا ثُمَّ تَكُونُ عَلَیۡهِمۡ حَسۡرَةࣰ ثُمَّ یُغۡلَبُونَۗ وَٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوۤا۟ إِلَىٰ جَهَنَّمَ یُحۡشَرُونَ ۝٣٦

Indeed, those who have denied spend their wealths to bar (others) from the way of Allah. So they will spend it, then it will become a source of sorrow for them and then they will be overcome. And those who have denied are herded to Hell.

inna alladhīna kafarū yunfiqūna amwālahum liyaṣuddū ʿan sabīli l-lahi fasayunfiqūnahā thumma takūnu ʿalayhim ḥasratan thumma yugh'labūna wa-alladhīna kafarū ilā jahannama yuḥ'sharūn

لِیَمِیزَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡخَبِیثَ مِنَ ٱلطَّیِّبِ وَیَجۡعَلَ ٱلۡخَبِیثَ بَعۡضَهُۥ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲ فَیَرۡكُمَهُۥ جَمِیعࣰا فَیَجۡعَلَهُۥ فِی جَهَنَّمَۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرُونَ ۝٣٧

That Allah may distinguish the nasty from the good, and heap the nasty (things) on top of one another and pile them together and set it up in Hell; those are the losers.

liyamīza l-lahu l-khabītha mina l-ṭayibi wayajʿala l-khabītha baʿḍahu ʿalā baʿḍin fayarkumahu jamīʿan fayajʿalahu fī jahannama ulāika humu l-khāsirūn

5 Badr — a Sign of the Prophet's Truth

قُل لِّلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوۤا۟ إِن یَنتَهُوا۟ یُغۡفَرۡ لَهُم مَّا قَدۡ سَلَفَ وَإِن یَعُودُوا۟ فَقَدۡ مَضَتۡ سُنَّتُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٣٨

Tellsg those who have denied that if they desist, they will be forgiven whatever has already passed. But if they return—then the rule of (God regarding) the ancients is already established.

qul lilladhīna kafarū in yantahū yugh'far lahum mā qad salafa wa-in yaʿūdū faqad maḍat sunnatu l-awalīn

وَقَـٰتِلُوهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ لَا تَكُونَ فِتۡنَةࣱ وَیَكُونَ ٱلدِّینُ كُلُّهُۥ لِلَّهِۚ فَإِنِ ٱنتَهَوۡا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِمَا یَعۡمَلُونَ بَصِیرࣱ ۝٣٩

And combatpl them until there is no more religious persecution and religion is all for Allah. But if they desist—then Allah is All-Seeing of what they do.

waqātilūhum ḥattā lā takūna fit'natun wayakūna l-dīnu kulluhu lillahi fa-ini intahaw fa-inna l-laha bimā yaʿmalūna baṣīru

وَإِن تَوَلَّوۡا۟ فَٱعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَوۡلَىٰكُمۡۚ نِعۡمَ ٱلۡمَوۡلَىٰ وَنِعۡمَ ٱلنَّصِیرُ ۝٤٠

And if they turn away, then knowpl that Allah is your Patron; what an excellent Patron and what an excellent Supporter!

wa-in tawallaw fa-iʿ'lamū anna l-laha mawlākum niʿ'ma l-mawlā waniʿ'ma l-naṣīr

۞ وَٱعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّمَا غَنِمۡتُم مِّن شَیۡءࣲ فَأَنَّ لِلَّهِ خُمُسَهُۥ وَلِلرَّسُولِ وَلِذِی ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ وَٱلۡیَتَـٰمَىٰ وَٱلۡمَسَـٰكِینِ وَٱبۡنِ ٱلسَّبِیلِ إِن كُنتُمۡ ءَامَنتُم بِٱللَّهِ وَمَاۤ أَنزَلۡنَا عَلَىٰ عَبۡدِنَا یَوۡمَ ٱلۡفُرۡقَانِ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡتَقَى ٱلۡجَمۡعَانِۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ قَدِیرٌ ۝٤١

And know that whatever you have gained (as spoils of war)—to Allah belongs its fifth and to the messenger and to the relative and the orphans and the destitutepl and to the traveler in need, provided you have (truly) attained faith in Allah and in what We have sent down upon Our servant on the Day of Distinction, the day when the two armies met. For Allah is All-Powerful over everything.

wa-iʿ'lamū annamā ghanim'tum min shayin fa-anna lillahi khumusahu walilrrasūli walidhī l-qur'bā wal-yatāmā wal-masākīni wa-ib'ni l-sabīli in kuntum āmantum bil-lahi wamā anzalnā ʿalā ʿabdinā yawma l-fur'qāni yawma l-taqā l-jamʿāni wal-lahu ʿalā kulli shayin qadīru

إِذۡ أَنتُم بِٱلۡعُدۡوَةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَهُم بِٱلۡعُدۡوَةِ ٱلۡقُصۡوَىٰ وَٱلرَّكۡبُ أَسۡفَلَ مِنكُمۡۚ وَلَوۡ تَوَاعَدتُّمۡ لَٱخۡتَلَفۡتُمۡ فِی ٱلۡمِیعَـٰدِ وَلَـٰكِن لِّیَقۡضِیَ ٱللَّهُ أَمۡرࣰا كَانَ مَفۡعُولࣰا لِّیَهۡلِكَ مَنۡ هَلَكَ عَنۢ بَیِّنَةࣲ وَیَحۡیَىٰ مَنۡ حَیَّ عَنۢ بَیِّنَةࣲۗ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَسَمِیعٌ عَلِیمٌ ۝٤٢

Recall: you on the nearer bank and they on the further bank and the caravan below you. And had you planned for this meeting, you would indeed have differed over the promised appointment, but Allah was to carry out a predetermined matter—so that those who perish would perish after seeing evident proof, and those who survive would survive after seeing evident proof. And most surely, Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

idh antum bil-ʿud'wati l-dun'yā wahum bil-ʿud'wati l-quṣ'wā wal-rakbu asfala minkum walaw tawāʿadttum la-ikh'talaftum fī l-mīʿādi walākin liyaqḍiya l-lahu amran kāna mafʿūlan liyahlika man halaka ʿan bayyinatin wayaḥyā man ḥayya ʿan bayyinatin wa-inna l-laha lasamīʿun ʿalīmu

إِذۡ یُرِیكَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِی مَنَامِكَ قَلِیلࣰاۖ وَلَوۡ أَرَىٰكَهُمۡ كَثِیرࣰا لَّفَشِلۡتُمۡ وَلَتَنَـٰزَعۡتُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَمۡرِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَلَّمَۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِیمُۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ ۝٤٣

Recall: Allah showing them to yousg in your sleep as few, for had He showed them to you as many, youpl would have faltered and disagreed with each other about the matter, but Allah saved (the situation). He is indeed All-Knowing of what lies within the chests.

idh yurīkahumu l-lahu fī manāmika qalīlan walaw arākahum kathīran lafashil'tum walatanāzaʿtum fī l-amri walākinna l-laha sallama innahu ʿalīmun bidhāti l-ṣudūr

وَإِذۡ یُرِیكُمُوهُمۡ إِذِ ٱلۡتَقَیۡتُمۡ فِیۤ أَعۡیُنِكُمۡ قَلِیلࣰا وَیُقَلِّلُكُمۡ فِیۤ أَعۡیُنِهِمۡ لِیَقۡضِیَ ٱللَّهُ أَمۡرࣰا كَانَ مَفۡعُولࣰاۗ وَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ تُرۡجَعُ ٱلۡأُمُورُ ۝٤٤

And recall: when youpl met, Him showing them to you as few in your eyes and making you appear fewer in their eyes, so that Allah might carry out a predetermined matter. And to Allah all matters are returned.

wa-idh yurīkumūhum idhi l-taqaytum fī aʿyunikum qalīlan wayuqallilukum fī aʿyunihim liyaqḍiya l-lahu amran kāna mafʿūlan wa-ilā l-lahi tur'jaʿu l-umūr

6 Success does not depend on Numbers

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِذَا لَقِیتُمۡ فِئَةࣰ فَٱثۡبُتُوا۟ وَٱذۡكُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ كَثِیرࣰا لَّعَلَّكُمۡ تُفۡلِحُونَ ۝٤٥

O you who have attained faith, when you encounter a battalion, then stand firm and remember Allah much, that you may be successful.

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū idhā laqītum fi-atan fa-uth'butū wa-udh'kurū l-laha kathīran laʿallakum tuf'liḥūn

وَأَطِیعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَلَا تَنَـٰزَعُوا۟ فَتَفۡشَلُوا۟ وَتَذۡهَبَ رِیحُكُمۡۖ وَٱصۡبِرُوۤا۟ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِینَ ۝٤٦

And obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not disagree with each other lest you falter and your strength depart. And be patient. Indeed, Allah is with the patientpl.

wa-aṭīʿū l-laha warasūlahu walā tanāzaʿū fatafshalū watadhhaba rīḥukum wa-iṣ'birū inna l-laha maʿa l-ṣābirīn

وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِینَ خَرَجُوا۟ مِن دِیَـٰرِهِم بَطَرࣰا وَرِئَاۤءَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَیَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا یَعۡمَلُونَ مُحِیطࣱ ۝٤٧

And do not be like those who set out of their homes out of boastfulness and for show in front of the people while barring others from the way of Allah, whereas Allah is All-Encompassing of what they do.

walā takūnū ka-alladhīna kharajū min diyārihim baṭaran wariāa l-nāsi wayaṣuddūna ʿan sabīli l-lahi wal-lahu bimā yaʿmalūna muḥīṭu

وَإِذۡ زَیَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُ أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡ وَقَالَ لَا غَالِبَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ مِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَإِنِّی جَارࣱ لَّكُمۡۖ فَلَمَّا تَرَاۤءَتِ ٱلۡفِئَتَانِ نَكَصَ عَلَىٰ عَقِبَیۡهِ وَقَالَ إِنِّی بَرِیۤءࣱ مِّنكُمۡ إِنِّیۤ أَرَىٰ مَا لَا تَرَوۡنَ إِنِّیۤ أَخَافُ ٱللَّهَۚ وَٱللَّهُ شَدِیدُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ ۝٤٨

And recall how Satan adorned their deeds for them and said, “Today, none of mankind shall overcome you, and I am surely at your side.” But when the two battalions came within sight of one another, he turned on his heels and said, “I am innocent of you; I see what you do not see; I do fear Allah, and Allah is stern in punishment.”

wa-idh zayyana lahumu l-shayṭānu aʿmālahum waqāla lā ghāliba lakumu l-yawma mina l-nāsi wa-innī jārun lakum falammā tarāati l-fi-atāni nakaṣa ʿalā ʿaqibayhi waqāla innī barīon minkum innī arā mā lā tarawna innī akhāfu l-laha wal-lahu shadīdu l-ʿiqāb

7 Enemy's Strength weakened

إِذۡ یَقُولُ ٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقُونَ وَٱلَّذِینَ فِی قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ غَرَّ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ دِینُهُمۡۗ وَمَن یَتَوَكَّلۡ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِیزٌ حَكِیمࣱ ۝٤٩

Recall: the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is sickness saying, “These people's religion has deceived them.” But whoever places his trust in Allah—then indeed, Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.

idh yaqūlu l-munāfiqūna wa-alladhīna fī qulūbihim maraḍun gharra hāulāi dīnuhum waman yatawakkal ʿalā l-lahi fa-inna l-laha ʿazīzun ḥakīmu

وَلَوۡ تَرَىٰۤ إِذۡ یَتَوَفَّى ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ یَضۡرِبُونَ وُجُوهَهُمۡ وَأَدۡبَـٰرَهُمۡ وَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابَ ٱلۡحَرِیقِ ۝٥٠

And if only yousg could see as those who denied are taken at death by the angels, striking their faces and their backs and (saying), “Taste the punishment of burning;

walaw tarā idh yatawaffā alladhīna kafarū l-malāikatu yaḍribūna wujūhahum wa-adbārahum wadhūqū ʿadhāba l-ḥarīq

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِمَا قَدَّمَتۡ أَیۡدِیكُمۡ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَیۡسَ بِظَلَّـٰمࣲ لِّلۡعَبِیدِ ۝٥١

that is because of what your hands have put forth and because Allah is not a tyrant unto the servants.”

dhālika bimā qaddamat aydīkum wa-anna l-laha laysa biẓallāmin lil'ʿabīd

كَدَأۡبِ ءَالِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡۚ كَفَرُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِذُنُوبِهِمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَوِیࣱّ شَدِیدُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ ۝٥٢

Such was the case with Pharaoh's folk and those before them. They denied the signs of Allah, so Allah seized them for their misdeeds. Indeed, Allah is All-Powerful, Stern in retribution.

kadabi āli fir'ʿawna wa-alladhīna min qablihim kafarū biāyāti l-lahi fa-akhadhahumu l-lahu bidhunūbihim inna l-laha qawiyyun shadīdu l-ʿiqāb

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَمۡ یَكُ مُغَیِّرࣰا نِّعۡمَةً أَنۡعَمَهَا عَلَىٰ قَوۡمٍ حَتَّىٰ یُغَیِّرُوا۟ مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمۡ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَمِیعٌ عَلِیمࣱ ۝٥٣

That is because Allah would never change a blessing He has bestowed upon any people unless they changed what is within themselves, and because Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

dhālika bi-anna l-laha lam yaku mughayyiran niʿ'matan anʿamahā ʿalā qawmin ḥattā yughayyirū mā bi-anfusihim wa-anna l-laha samīʿun ʿalīmu

كَدَأۡبِ ءَالِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡۚ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ فَأَهۡلَكۡنَـٰهُم بِذُنُوبِهِمۡ وَأَغۡرَقۡنَاۤ ءَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنَۚ وَكُلࣱّ كَانُوا۟ ظَـٰلِمِینَ ۝٥٤

Such was the case with Pharaoh's folk and those before them. They rejected the signs of their Lord, so We annihilated them for their misdeeds, and We drowned Pharaoh's folk—for all were unjust.

kadabi āli fir'ʿawna wa-alladhīna min qablihim kadhabū biāyāti rabbihim fa-ahlaknāhum bidhunūbihim wa-aghraqnā āla fir'ʿawna wakullun kānū ẓālimīn

إِنَّ شَرَّ ٱلدَّوَاۤبِّ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَهُمۡ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٥٥

Indeed, the worst of the treading creatures before Allah are those who have denied, as they will never believe:

inna sharra l-dawābi ʿinda l-lahi alladhīna kafarū fahum lā yu'minūn

ٱلَّذِینَ عَـٰهَدتَّ مِنۡهُمۡ ثُمَّ یَنقُضُونَ عَهۡدَهُمۡ فِی كُلِّ مَرَّةࣲ وَهُمۡ لَا یَتَّقُونَ ۝٥٦

those of them with whom yousg have covenanted, but they violate their covenant every time and they are never mindful (of God).

alladhīna ʿāhadtta min'hum thumma yanquḍūna ʿahdahum fī kulli marratin wahum lā yattaqūn

فَإِمَّا تَثۡقَفَنَّهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡحَرۡبِ فَشَرِّدۡ بِهِم مَّنۡ خَلۡفَهُمۡ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَذَّكَّرُونَ ۝٥٧

So if you confront them in battle, then make of them a fearsome example for those who follow them, that they may constantly remember.

fa-immā tathqafannahum fī l-ḥarbi fasharrid bihim man khalfahum laʿallahum yadhakkarūn

وَإِمَّا تَخَافَنَّ مِن قَوۡمٍ خِیَانَةࣰ فَٱنۢبِذۡ إِلَیۡهِمۡ عَلَىٰ سَوَاۤءٍۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یُحِبُّ ٱلۡخَاۤىِٕنِینَ ۝٥٨

And if you fear treachery from any people, then break off with them in a like manner; indeed, Allah does not like the treacherous.

wa-immā takhāfanna min qawmin khiyānatan fa-inbidh ilayhim ʿalā sawāin inna l-laha lā yuḥibbu l-khāinīn

8 Peace to be secured by Strength

وَلَا یَحۡسَبَنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ سَبَقُوۤا۟ۚ إِنَّهُمۡ لَا یُعۡجِزُونَ ۝٥٩

And let not the deniers think that they are ahead. Indeed, they cannot thwart (God).

walā yaḥsabanna alladhīna kafarū sabaqū innahum lā yuʿ'jizūn

وَأَعِدُّوا۟ لَهُم مَّا ٱسۡتَطَعۡتُم مِّن قُوَّةࣲ وَمِن رِّبَاطِ ٱلۡخَیۡلِ تُرۡهِبُونَ بِهِۦ عَدُوَّ ٱللَّهِ وَعَدُوَّكُمۡ وَءَاخَرِینَ مِن دُونِهِمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ یَعۡلَمُهُمۡۚ وَمَا تُنفِقُوا۟ مِن شَیۡءࣲ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ یُوَفَّ إِلَیۡكُمۡ وَأَنتُمۡ لَا تُظۡلَمُونَ ۝٦٠

And preparepl against them all what you can muster of power and of warhorse garrisons to terrify thereby Allah’s enemy and your enemy and others apart from them whom you do not know (but) whom Allah knows. And whatever you spend in the way of Allah is rendered to you in full, and you are not dealt with unjustly.

wa-aʿiddū lahum mā is'taṭaʿtum min quwwatin wamin ribāṭi l-khayli tur'hibūna bihi ʿaduwwa l-lahi waʿaduwwakum waākharīna min dūnihim lā taʿlamūnahumu l-lahu yaʿlamuhum wamā tunfiqū min shayin fī sabīli l-lahi yuwaffa ilaykum wa-antum lā tuẓ'lamūn

۞ وَإِن جَنَحُوا۟ لِلسَّلۡمِ فَٱجۡنَحۡ لَهَا وَتَوَكَّلۡ عَلَى ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِیعُ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ۝٦١

But if they incline towards peace, then inclinesg towards it and place your trust in Allah. Indeed, it is He who is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

wa-in janaḥū lilssalmi fa-ij'naḥ lahā watawakkal ʿalā l-lahi innahu huwa l-samīʿu l-ʿalīm

وَإِن یُرِیدُوۤا۟ أَن یَخۡدَعُوكَ فَإِنَّ حَسۡبَكَ ٱللَّهُۚ هُوَ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَیَّدَكَ بِنَصۡرِهِۦ وَبِٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٦٢

For (even) if they want to deceive you, then surely Allah is enough for you. It is He who aided you with His support and with the believers.

wa-in yurīdū an yakhdaʿūka fa-inna ḥasbaka l-lahu huwa alladhī ayyadaka binaṣrihi wabil-mu'minīn

وَأَلَّفَ بَیۡنَ قُلُوبِهِمۡۚ لَوۡ أَنفَقۡتَ مَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِیعࣰا مَّاۤ أَلَّفۡتَ بَیۡنَ قُلُوبِهِمۡ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ أَلَّفَ بَیۡنَهُمۡۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَزِیزٌ حَكِیمࣱ ۝٦٣

And He attuned their hearts. Had you spent whatever is in the earth, all together, you would not have attuned their hearts, but Allah attuned them. Indeed, He is Almighty, All-Wise.

wa-allafa bayna qulūbihim law anfaqta mā fī l-arḍi jamīʿan mā allafta bayna qulūbihim walākinna l-laha allafa baynahum innahu ʿazīzun ḥakīmu

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّبِیُّ حَسۡبُكَ ٱللَّهُ وَمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٦٤

O Prophet, Allah is sufficient for you and the believers who have followed you.

yāayyuhā l-nabiyu ḥasbuka l-lahu wamani ittabaʿaka mina l-mu'minīn

9 Muslims to meet Overwhelming Numbers

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّبِیُّ حَرِّضِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ عَلَى ٱلۡقِتَالِۚ إِن یَكُن مِّنكُمۡ عِشۡرُونَ صَـٰبِرُونَ یَغۡلِبُوا۟ مِا۟ئَتَیۡنِۚ وَإِن یَكُن مِّنكُم مِّا۟ئَةࣱ یَغۡلِبُوۤا۟ أَلۡفࣰا مِّنَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِأَنَّهُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ لَّا یَفۡقَهُونَ ۝٦٥

O Prophet, urge the believers on to combat. If there are twenty patient ones among you, they can overcome two hundred. And if there are a hundred of you, they can overcome a thousand of those who have denied, because they are a people who do not comprehend.

yāayyuhā l-nabiyu ḥarriḍi l-mu'minīna ʿalā l-qitāli in yakun minkum ʿish'rūna ṣābirūna yaghlibū mi-atayni wa-in yakun minkum mi-atun yaghlibū alfan mina alladhīna kafarū bi-annahum qawmun lā yafqahūn

ٱلۡءَـٰنَ خَفَّفَ ٱللَّهُ عَنكُمۡ وَعَلِمَ أَنَّ فِیكُمۡ ضَعۡفࣰاۚ فَإِن یَكُن مِّنكُم مِّا۟ئَةࣱ صَابِرَةࣱ یَغۡلِبُوا۟ مِا۟ئَتَیۡنِۚ وَإِن یَكُن مِّنكُمۡ أَلۡفࣱ یَغۡلِبُوۤا۟ أَلۡفَیۡنِ بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِۗ وَٱللَّهُ مَعَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِینَ ۝٦٦

Now Allah has lightened yourpl burden and He has recognized that there is weakness in you. So if there are a hundred patient ones among you, they can overcome two hundred. And if there are a thousand of you, they can overcome two thousand by Allah’s leave. For Allah is with the patient ones.

al-āna khaffafa l-lahu ʿankum waʿalima anna fīkum ḍaʿfan fa-in yakun minkum mi-atun ṣābiratun yaghlibū mi-atayni wa-in yakun minkum alfun yaghlibū alfayni bi-idh'ni l-lahi wal-lahu maʿa l-ṣābirīn

مَا كَانَ لِنَبِیٍّ أَن یَكُونَ لَهُۥۤ أَسۡرَىٰ حَتَّىٰ یُثۡخِنَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ تُرِیدُونَ عَرَضَ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَٱللَّهُ یُرِیدُ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةَۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَزِیزٌ حَكِیمࣱ ۝٦٧

Never would it befit any prophet to (stop the battle and) take captives before he has subjugated (the enemy) in the battlefield. Youpl want the materials of the Earlier (Life), but Allah wants the Hereafter. For Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.

mā kāna linabiyyin an yakūna lahu asrā ḥattā yuth'khina fī l-arḍi turīdūna ʿaraḍa l-dun'yā wal-lahu yurīdu l-ākhirata wal-lahu ʿazīzun ḥakīmu

لَّوۡلَا كِتَـٰبࣱ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ سَبَقَ لَمَسَّكُمۡ فِیمَاۤ أَخَذۡتُمۡ عَذَابٌ عَظِیمࣱ ۝٦٨

Were it not for a predetermined decree from Allah, a great punishment would have befallen you for what you have taken.

lawlā kitābun mina l-lahi sabaqa lamassakum fīmā akhadhtum ʿadhābun ʿaẓīmu

فَكُلُوا۟ مِمَّا غَنِمۡتُمۡ حَلَـٰلࣰا طَیِّبࣰاۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝٦٩

So consume of what you have gained, legitimate and good, and be mindful of Allah. Indeed, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Bestowing of mercy.

fakulū mimmā ghanim'tum ḥalālan ṭayyiban wa-ittaqū l-laha inna l-laha ghafūrun raḥīmu

10 Relations of Muslim State with others

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّبِیُّ قُل لِّمَن فِیۤ أَیۡدِیكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَسۡرَىٰۤ إِن یَعۡلَمِ ٱللَّهُ فِی قُلُوبِكُمۡ خَیۡرࣰا یُؤۡتِكُمۡ خَیۡرࣰا مِّمَّاۤ أُخِذَ مِنكُمۡ وَیَغۡفِرۡ لَكُمۡۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝٧٠

O Prophet, say to those you hold prisoners, “If Allah recognizes any good in your hearts, He will give you better than what was taken from you and will forgive you. For Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Bestowing of mercy.”

yāayyuhā l-nabiyu qul liman fī aydīkum mina l-asrā in yaʿlami l-lahu fī qulūbikum khayran yu'tikum khayran mimmā ukhidha minkum wayaghfir lakum wal-lahu ghafūrun raḥīmu

وَإِن یُرِیدُوا۟ خِیَانَتَكَ فَقَدۡ خَانُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مِن قَبۡلُ فَأَمۡكَنَ مِنۡهُمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِیمٌ حَكِیمٌ ۝٧١

But if they want to betray you, then they have already betrayed Allah earlier, and He has empowered (you) over them. For Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

wa-in yurīdū khiyānataka faqad khānū l-laha min qablu fa-amkana min'hum wal-lahu ʿalīmun ḥakīmu

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَهَاجَرُوا۟ وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟ بِأَمۡوَ ٰلِهِمۡ وَأَنفُسِهِمۡ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَاوَوا۟ وَّنَصَرُوۤا۟ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ أَوۡلِیَاۤءُ بَعۡضࣲۚ وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَلَمۡ یُهَاجِرُوا۟ مَا لَكُم مِّن وَلَـٰیَتِهِم مِّن شَیۡءٍ حَتَّىٰ یُهَاجِرُوا۟ۚ وَإِنِ ٱسۡتَنصَرُوكُمۡ فِی ٱلدِّینِ فَعَلَیۡكُمُ ٱلنَّصۡرُ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ قَوۡمِۭ بَیۡنَكُمۡ وَبَیۡنَهُم مِّیثَـٰقࣱۗ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ بَصِیرࣱ ۝٧٢

Indeed, those who attained faith and emigrated and struggled in the way of Allah with their wealths and themselves, and those who provided shelter and gave support—those are guardians of one another. But those who attained faith but did not emigrate—you owe them no guardianship until they have emigrated. But if they ask youpl for support in the matter of religion, then support is incumbent on you, except against a people with whom you have a pledge. For Allah is All-Seeing of what you do.

inna alladhīna āmanū wahājarū wajāhadū bi-amwālihim wa-anfusihim fī sabīli l-lahi wa-alladhīna āwaw wanaṣarū ulāika baʿḍuhum awliyāu baʿḍin wa-alladhīna āmanū walam yuhājirū mā lakum min walāyatihim min shayin ḥattā yuhājirū wa-ini is'tanṣarūkum fī l-dīni faʿalaykumu l-naṣru illā ʿalā qawmin baynakum wabaynahum mīthāqun wal-lahu bimā taʿmalūna baṣīru

وَٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ بَعۡضُهُمۡ أَوۡلِیَاۤءُ بَعۡضٍۚ إِلَّا تَفۡعَلُوهُ تَكُن فِتۡنَةࣱ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَفَسَادࣱ كَبِیرࣱ ۝٧٣

And those who denied— they are guardians of one another. Unless you do this, there will be religious persecution in the land and huge corruption.

wa-alladhīna kafarū baʿḍuhum awliyāu baʿḍin illā tafʿalūhu takun fit'natun fī l-arḍi wafasādun kabīru

وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَهَاجَرُوا۟ وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَاوَوا۟ وَّنَصَرُوۤا۟ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ حَقࣰّاۚ لَّهُم مَّغۡفِرَةࣱ وَرِزۡقࣱ كَرِیمࣱ ۝٧٤

And those who attained faith and emigrated and struggled in the way of Allah, and those who provided shelter and supported—those are the true believers. For them is forgiveness and noble provision.

wa-alladhīna āmanū wahājarū wajāhadū fī sabīli l-lahi wa-alladhīna āwaw wanaṣarū ulāika humu l-mu'minūna ḥaqqan lahum maghfiratun wariz'qun karīmu

وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعۡدُ وَهَاجَرُوا۟ وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟ مَعَكُمۡ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ مِنكُمۡۚ وَأُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلۡأَرۡحَامِ بَعۡضُهُمۡ أَوۡلَىٰ بِبَعۡضࣲ فِی كِتَـٰبِ ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِكُلِّ شَیۡءٍ عَلِیمُۢ ۝٧٥

And those who attained faith afterwards and emigrated and struggled with youpl—then those belong with you. But blood relatives are nearer to one another in the Scripture of Allah. Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing of everything.

wa-alladhīna āmanū min baʿdu wahājarū wajāhadū maʿakum fa-ulāika minkum wa-ulū l-arḥāmi baʿḍuhum awlā bibaʿḍin fī kitābi l-lahi inna l-laha bikulli shayin ʿalīmu
