The Spoils of War — Musharraf Hussain Translation

8:1

۞ یَسۡءَلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلۡأَنفَالِۖ قُلِ ٱلۡأَنفَالُ لِلَّهِ وَٱلرَّسُولِۖ فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَصۡلِحُوا۟ ذَاتَ بَیۡنِكُمۡۖ وَأَطِیعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥۤ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١

Musharraf Hussain

They ask you about the spoils of war, say: “The spoils belong to Allah and the Messenger. So, fear Allah and make peace among yourselves, and obey Allah and His Messenger, if you are true believers.”

yasalūnaka ʿani l-anfāli quli l-anfālu lillahi wal-rasūli fa-ittaqū l-laha wa-aṣliḥū dhāta baynikum wa-aṭīʿū l-laha warasūlahu in kuntum mu'minīn

8:2

إِنَّمَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ ٱلَّذِینَ إِذَا ذُكِرَ ٱللَّهُ وَجِلَتۡ قُلُوبُهُمۡ وَإِذَا تُلِیَتۡ عَلَیۡهِمۡ ءَایَـٰتُهُۥ زَادَتۡهُمۡ إِیمَـٰنࣰا وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡ یَتَوَكَّلُونَ ۝٢

Musharraf Hussain

The believers’ hearts tremble with fear at the mention of Allah, their faith grows stronger whenever His verses are recited, and they put trust in their Lord.

innamā l-mu'minūna alladhīna idhā dhukira l-lahu wajilat qulūbuhum wa-idhā tuliyat ʿalayhim āyātuhu zādathum īmānan waʿalā rabbihim yatawakkalūn

8:3

ٱلَّذِینَ یُقِیمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقۡنَـٰهُمۡ یُنفِقُونَ ۝٣

Musharraf Hussain

They perform the prayer and spend from what We have provided,

alladhīna yuqīmūna l-ṣalata wamimmā razaqnāhum yunfiqūn

8:4

أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ حَقࣰّاۚ لَّهُمۡ دَرَجَـٰتٌ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡ وَمَغۡفِرَةࣱ وَرِزۡقࣱ كَرِیمࣱ ۝٤

Musharraf Hussain

they’re true believers; reserved for them are lofty ranks near their Lord, and forgiveness and a generous provision

ulāika humu l-mu'minūna ḥaqqan lahum darajātun ʿinda rabbihim wamaghfiratun wariz'qun karīmu

8:5

كَمَاۤ أَخۡرَجَكَ رَبُّكَ مِنۢ بَیۡتِكَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَإِنَّ فَرِیقࣰا مِّنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ لَكَـٰرِهُونَ ۝٥

Musharraf Hussain

It was your Lord Who led you out of your home for a purpose, though a group of the believers disliked it,

kamā akhrajaka rabbuka min baytika bil-ḥaqi wa-inna farīqan mina l-mu'minīna lakārihūn

8:6

یُجَـٰدِلُونَكَ فِی ٱلۡحَقِّ بَعۡدَ مَا تَبَیَّنَ كَأَنَّمَا یُسَاقُونَ إِلَى ٱلۡمَوۡتِ وَهُمۡ یَنظُرُونَ ۝٦

Musharraf Hussain

they argue with you about its purpose that has become apparent, as though they were being led to their deaths as they looked on.

yujādilūnaka fī l-ḥaqi baʿdamā 0 tabayyana ka-annamā yusāqūna ilā l-mawti wahum yanẓurūn

8:7

وَإِذۡ یَعِدُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ إِحۡدَى ٱلطَّاۤىِٕفَتَیۡنِ أَنَّهَا لَكُمۡ وَتَوَدُّونَ أَنَّ غَیۡرَ ذَاتِ ٱلشَّوۡكَةِ تَكُونُ لَكُمۡ وَیُرِیدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن یُحِقَّ ٱلۡحَقَّ بِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦ وَیَقۡطَعَ دَابِرَ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٧

Musharraf Hussain

Remember when Allah promised that one of the two parties would be yours, while you were longing for the weaker target. Allah wanted by the power of His words, to establish the truth and to break the back of the disbelievers’ might,

wa-idh yaʿidukumu l-lahu iḥ'dā l-ṭāifatayni annahā lakum watawaddūna anna ghayra dhāti l-shawkati takūnu lakum wayurīdu l-lahu an yuḥiqqa l-ḥaqa bikalimātihi wayaqṭaʿa dābira l-kāfirīn

8:8

لِیُحِقَّ ٱلۡحَقَّ وَیُبۡطِلَ ٱلۡبَـٰطِلَ وَلَوۡ كَرِهَ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ ۝٨

Musharraf Hussain

to establish the truth and to overturn falsehood, though the sinful hate it

liyuḥiqqa l-ḥaqa wayub'ṭila l-bāṭila walaw kariha l-muj'rimūn

8:9

إِذۡ تَسۡتَغِیثُونَ رَبَّكُمۡ فَٱسۡتَجَابَ لَكُمۡ أَنِّی مُمِدُّكُم بِأَلۡفࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةِ مُرۡدِفِینَ ۝٩

Musharraf Hussain

Remember when you prayed to your Lord for help, and He answered: “I will help you with a thousand angels in rows upon rows.”

idh tastaghīthūna rabbakum fa-is'tajāba lakum annī mumiddukum bi-alfin mina l-malāikati mur'difīn

8:10

وَمَا جَعَلَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِلَّا بُشۡرَىٰ وَلِتَطۡمَىِٕنَّ بِهِۦ قُلُوبُكُمۡۚ وَمَا ٱلنَّصۡرُ إِلَّا مِنۡ عِندِ ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِیزٌ حَكِیمٌ ۝١٠

Musharraf Hussain

Allah made it glad tidings and to boost your morale. Victory is from Allah alone. Allah is Almighty, Wise.

wamā jaʿalahu l-lahu illā bush'rā walitaṭma-inna bihi qulūbukum wamā l-naṣru illā min ʿindi l-lahi inna l-laha ʿazīzun ḥakīmu

8:11

إِذۡ یُغَشِّیكُمُ ٱلنُّعَاسَ أَمَنَةࣰ مِّنۡهُ وَیُنَزِّلُ عَلَیۡكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰ لِّیُطَهِّرَكُم بِهِۦ وَیُذۡهِبَ عَنكُمۡ رِجۡزَ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنِ وَلِیَرۡبِطَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِكُمۡ وَیُثَبِّتَ بِهِ ٱلۡأَقۡدَامَ ۝١١

Musharraf Hussain

Remember when He caused drowsiness to overtake you, granting you of His reassurance, and He sent rain from the sky for you so you could clean yourselves, remove Satan’s filth from you, strengthen your hearts, and help you to stand firm.

idh yughashīkumu l-nuʿāsa amanatan min'hu wayunazzilu ʿalaykum mina l-samāi māan liyuṭahhirakum bihi wayudh'hiba ʿankum rij'za l-shayṭāni waliyarbiṭa ʿalā qulūbikum wayuthabbita bihi l-aqdām

8:12

إِذۡ یُوحِی رَبُّكَ إِلَى ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةِ أَنِّی مَعَكُمۡ فَثَبِّتُوا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ۚ سَأُلۡقِی فِی قُلُوبِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱلرُّعۡبَ فَٱضۡرِبُوا۟ فَوۡقَ ٱلۡأَعۡنَاقِ وَٱضۡرِبُوا۟ مِنۡهُمۡ كُلَّ بَنَانࣲ ۝١٢

Musharraf Hussain

Remember when Your Lord revealed to the angels: “I am with you, so make the believers stand their ground, while I strike terror into the disbelievers’ hearts. So, beat your wings above their necks and beat each of their limbs.”

idh yūḥī rabbuka ilā l-malāikati annī maʿakum fathabbitū alladhīna āmanū sa-ul'qī fī qulūbi alladhīna kafarū l-ruʿ'ba fa-iḍ'ribū fawqa l-aʿnāqi wa-iḍ'ribū min'hum kulla banāni

8:13

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ شَاۤقُّوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥۚ وَمَن یُشَاقِقِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِیدُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ ۝١٣

Musharraf Hussain

Since they opposed Allah and His Messenger, and anyone who opposes Allah and His Messenger will have severe punishment,

dhālika bi-annahum shāqqū l-laha warasūlahu waman yushāqiqi l-laha warasūlahu fa-inna l-laha shadīdu l-ʿiqāb

8:14

ذَ ٰلِكُمۡ فَذُوقُوهُ وَأَنَّ لِلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ ۝١٤

Musharraf Hussain

a taste for you of what is to come for the disbelievers, the torment of the Fire is waiting

dhālikum fadhūqūhu wa-anna lil'kāfirīna ʿadhāba l-nār

8:15

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِذَا لَقِیتُمُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ زَحۡفࣰا فَلَا تُوَلُّوهُمُ ٱلۡأَدۡبَارَ ۝١٥

Musharraf Hussain

Believers, whenever you meet disbelievers in battle advancing towards you, don’t turn your backs to them to flee.

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū idhā laqītumu alladhīna kafarū zaḥfan falā tuwallūhumu l-adbār

8:16

وَمَن یُوَلِّهِمۡ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ دُبُرَهُۥۤ إِلَّا مُتَحَرِّفࣰا لِّقِتَالٍ أَوۡ مُتَحَیِّزًا إِلَىٰ فِئَةࣲ فَقَدۡ بَاۤءَ بِغَضَبࣲ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَمَأۡوَىٰهُ جَهَنَّمُۖ وَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡمَصِیرُ ۝١٦

Musharraf Hussain

On that day, whoever turns his back except in tactical retreat to attack again, or else to rejoin another fighting party, will suffer the fury of Allah, and Hell will be his home. What an evil destination!

waman yuwallihim yawma-idhin duburahu illā mutaḥarrifan liqitālin aw mutaḥayyizan ilā fi-atin faqad bāa bighaḍabin mina l-lahi wamawāhu jahannamu wabi'sa l-maṣīr

8:17

فَلَمۡ تَقۡتُلُوهُمۡ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَتَلَهُمۡۚ وَمَا رَمَیۡتَ إِذۡ رَمَیۡتَ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ رَمَىٰ وَلِیُبۡلِیَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ مِنۡهُ بَلَاۤءً حَسَنًاۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَمِیعٌ عَلِیمࣱ ۝١٧

Musharraf Hussain

You didn’t kill them, but Allah killed them nor did you throw the pebbles when you threw, Messenger, but it was Allah Who threw it. This was as a positive test of the believers from Him. Allah is the Hearer, the Knower.

falam taqtulūhum walākinna l-laha qatalahum wamā ramayta idh ramayta walākinna l-laha ramā waliyub'liya l-mu'minīna min'hu balāan ḥasanan inna l-laha samīʿun ʿalīmu

8:18

ذَ ٰلِكُمۡ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مُوهِنُ كَیۡدِ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝١٨

Musharraf Hussain

That was a sign for you, that Allah will weaken the disbelievers’ plot.

dhālikum wa-anna l-laha mūhinu kaydi l-kāfirīn

8:19

إِن تَسۡتَفۡتِحُوا۟ فَقَدۡ جَاۤءَكُمُ ٱلۡفَتۡحُۖ وَإِن تَنتَهُوا۟ فَهُوَ خَیۡرࣱ لَّكُمۡۖ وَإِن تَعُودُوا۟ نَعُدۡ وَلَن تُغۡنِیَ عَنكُمۡ فِئَتُكُمۡ شَیۡءࣰا وَلَوۡ كَثُرَتۡ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١٩

Musharraf Hussain

If you are seeking a clear outcome, disbelievers, then that was an outcome clearly against you. Were you to put an end to your harassment, that would be better for you; but if you return to it, then so shall We. Your army will not benefit you at all, no matter how large it is. Allah is with the believers

in tastaftiḥū faqad jāakumu l-fatḥu wa-in tantahū fahuwa khayrun lakum wa-in taʿūdū naʿud walan tugh'niya ʿankum fi-atukum shayan walaw kathurat wa-anna l-laha maʿa l-mu'minīn

8:20

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ أَطِیعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَلَا تَوَلَّوۡا۟ عَنۡهُ وَأَنتُمۡ تَسۡمَعُونَ ۝٢٠

Musharraf Hussain

Believers, obey Allah and His Messenger and don’t turn away from him while you can hear him calling you;

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū aṭīʿū l-laha warasūlahu walā tawallaw ʿanhu wa-antum tasmaʿūn

8:21

وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِینَ قَالُوا۟ سَمِعۡنَا وَهُمۡ لَا یَسۡمَعُونَ ۝٢١

Musharraf Hussain

and don’t be like those who said, “We have heard,” while they were not listening at all.

walā takūnū ka-alladhīna qālū samiʿ'nā wahum lā yasmaʿūn

8:22

۞ إِنَّ شَرَّ ٱلدَّوَاۤبِّ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلصُّمُّ ٱلۡبُكۡمُ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٢٢

Musharraf Hussain

The worst of creatures in the sight of Allah are the wilfully deaf and dumb who refuse to think.

inna sharra l-dawābi ʿinda l-lahi l-ṣumu l-buk'mu alladhīna lā yaʿqilūn

8:23

وَلَوۡ عَلِمَ ٱللَّهُ فِیهِمۡ خَیۡرࣰا لَّأَسۡمَعَهُمۡۖ وَلَوۡ أَسۡمَعَهُمۡ لَتَوَلَّوا۟ وَّهُم مُّعۡرِضُونَ ۝٢٣

Musharraf Hussain

If Allah saw any good in them, He would have made them hear; but even if He had made them hear, they would still have turned away, rejecting the message.

walaw ʿalima l-lahu fīhim khayran la-asmaʿahum walaw asmaʿahum latawallaw wahum muʿ'riḍūn

8:24

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱسۡتَجِیبُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ إِذَا دَعَاكُمۡ لِمَا یُحۡیِیكُمۡۖ وَٱعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ یَحُولُ بَیۡنَ ٱلۡمَرۡءِ وَقَلۡبِهِۦ وَأَنَّهُۥۤ إِلَیۡهِ تُحۡشَرُونَ ۝٢٤

Musharraf Hussain

Believers, answer Allah and His Messenger when they call to that which will give you life; and beware Allah intervenes between a man and his heart, and that you’ll be gathered before Him.

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū is'tajībū lillahi walilrrasūli idhā daʿākum limā yuḥ'yīkum wa-iʿ'lamū anna l-laha yaḥūlu bayna l-mari waqalbihi wa-annahu ilayhi tuḥ'sharūn

8:25

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ فِتۡنَةࣰ لَّا تُصِیبَنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مِنكُمۡ خَاۤصَّةࣰۖ وَٱعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِیدُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ ۝٢٥

Musharraf Hussain

Be mindful of a future test that wouldn’t just affect the wrongdoers amongst you, and know that Allah’s punishment is severe

wa-ittaqū fit'natan lā tuṣībanna alladhīna ẓalamū minkum khāṣṣatan wa-iʿ'lamū anna l-laha shadīdu l-ʿiqāb

8:26

وَٱذۡكُرُوۤا۟ إِذۡ أَنتُمۡ قَلِیلࣱ مُّسۡتَضۡعَفُونَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ تَخَافُونَ أَن یَتَخَطَّفَكُمُ ٱلنَّاسُ فَءَاوَىٰكُمۡ وَأَیَّدَكُم بِنَصۡرِهِۦ وَرَزَقَكُم مِّنَ ٱلطَّیِّبَـٰتِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٢٦

Musharraf Hussain

Remember when you were an oppressed few in the land, afraid of being wiped out; Allah gave you protection and strengthened you with His help and provided you with wholesome things so you might be thankful.

wa-udh'kurū idh antum qalīlun mus'taḍʿafūna fī l-arḍi takhāfūna an yatakhaṭṭafakumu l-nāsu faāwākum wa-ayyadakum binaṣrihi warazaqakum mina l-ṭayibāti laʿallakum tashkurūn

8:27

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَخُونُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلرَّسُولَ وَتَخُونُوۤا۟ أَمَـٰنَـٰتِكُمۡ وَأَنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٢٧

Musharraf Hussain

Believers, don’t betray Allah and the Messenger knowingly, nor be disloyal to your trusts;

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū lā takhūnū l-laha wal-rasūla watakhūnū amānātikum wa-antum taʿlamūn

8:28

وَٱعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّمَاۤ أَمۡوَ ٰلُكُمۡ وَأَوۡلَـٰدُكُمۡ فِتۡنَةࣱ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ عِندَهُۥۤ أَجۡرٌ عَظِیمࣱ ۝٢٨

Musharraf Hussain

and know that your wealth and children are a test, and that Allah has a great reward in store for you.

wa-iʿ'lamū annamā amwālukum wa-awlādukum fit'natun wa-anna l-laha ʿindahu ajrun ʿaẓīmu

8:29

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِن تَتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ یَجۡعَل لَّكُمۡ فُرۡقَانࣰا وَیُكَفِّرۡ عَنكُمۡ سَیِّءَاتِكُمۡ وَیَغۡفِرۡ لَكُمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ ذُو ٱلۡفَضۡلِ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ ۝٢٩

Musharraf Hussain

Believers, if you are mindful of Allah He will give you the standard to judge between right and wrong, and He will cover up your wrongdoings and forgive you. Allah is Gracious in His favour

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū in tattaqū l-laha yajʿal lakum fur'qānan wayukaffir ʿankum sayyiātikum wayaghfir lakum wal-lahu dhū l-faḍli l-ʿaẓīm

8:30

وَإِذۡ یَمۡكُرُ بِكَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِیُثۡبِتُوكَ أَوۡ یَقۡتُلُوكَ أَوۡ یُخۡرِجُوكَۚ وَیَمۡكُرُونَ وَیَمۡكُرُ ٱللَّهُۖ وَٱللَّهُ خَیۡرُ ٱلۡمَـٰكِرِینَ ۝٣٠

Musharraf Hussain

Remember when the disbelievers plotted to imprison, kill or expel you. They plotted, and Allah planned something else, and Allah is the best of planners.

wa-idh yamkuru bika alladhīna kafarū liyuth'bitūka aw yaqtulūka aw yukh'rijūka wayamkurūna wayamkuru l-lahu wal-lahu khayru l-mākirīn

8:31

وَإِذَا تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَیۡهِمۡ ءَایَـٰتُنَا قَالُوا۟ قَدۡ سَمِعۡنَا لَوۡ نَشَاۤءُ لَقُلۡنَا مِثۡلَ هَـٰذَاۤ إِنۡ هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّاۤ أَسَـٰطِیرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٣١

Musharraf Hussain

When Our verses are recited to them, they say, “We’ve heard it all before. If we wanted, we could have said something similar. These are just legends of old.”

wa-idhā tut'lā ʿalayhim āyātunā qālū qad samiʿ'nā law nashāu laqul'nā mith'la hādhā in hādhā illā asāṭīru l-awalīn

8:32

وَإِذۡ قَالُوا۟ ٱللَّهُمَّ إِن كَانَ هَـٰذَا هُوَ ٱلۡحَقَّ مِنۡ عِندِكَ فَأَمۡطِرۡ عَلَیۡنَا حِجَارَةࣰ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ أَوِ ٱئۡتِنَا بِعَذَابٍ أَلِیمࣲ ۝٣٢

Musharraf Hussain

They said, “Allah, if this is, indeed, the truth from You then pelt us with hailstones from the sky, or fetch us some other painful punishment.”

wa-idh qālū l-lahuma in kāna hādhā huwa l-ḥaqa min ʿindika fa-amṭir ʿalaynā ḥijāratan mina l-samāi awi i'tinā biʿadhābin alīmi

8:33

وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِیُعَذِّبَهُمۡ وَأَنتَ فِیهِمۡۚ وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمۡ وَهُمۡ یَسۡتَغۡفِرُونَ ۝٣٣

Musharraf Hussain

But Allah will not punish them as long as you, Messenger, are among them; nor will Allah punish them if they repent and ask forgiveness.

wamā kāna l-lahu liyuʿadhibahum wa-anta fīhim wamā kāna l-lahu muʿadhibahum wahum yastaghfirūn

8:34

وَمَا لَهُمۡ أَلَّا یُعَذِّبَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَهُمۡ یَصُدُّونَ عَنِ ٱلۡمَسۡجِدِ ٱلۡحَرَامِ وَمَا كَانُوۤا۟ أَوۡلِیَاۤءَهُۥۤۚ إِنۡ أَوۡلِیَاۤؤُهُۥۤ إِلَّا ٱلۡمُتَّقُونَ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣٤

Musharraf Hussain

However, Allah will punish them for stopping people from the Sacred Mosque even though they are not its real keepers. Its real keepers are those who are mindful of Allah, but most of the disbelievers don’t know.

wamā lahum allā yuʿadhibahumu l-lahu wahum yaṣuddūna ʿani l-masjidi l-ḥarāmi wamā kānū awliyāahu in awliyāuhu illā l-mutaqūna walākinna aktharahum lā yaʿlamūn

8:35

وَمَا كَانَ صَلَاتُهُمۡ عِندَ ٱلۡبَیۡتِ إِلَّا مُكَاۤءࣰ وَتَصۡدِیَةࣰۚ فَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡفُرُونَ ۝٣٥

Musharraf Hussain

Their worship at the Sacred House is merely whistling and clapping. So, taste the punishment for your disbelief

wamā kāna ṣalātuhum ʿinda l-bayti illā mukāan wataṣdiyatan fadhūqū l-ʿadhāba bimā kuntum takfurūn

8:36

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ یُنفِقُونَ أَمۡوَ ٰلَهُمۡ لِیَصُدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِۚ فَسَیُنفِقُونَهَا ثُمَّ تَكُونُ عَلَیۡهِمۡ حَسۡرَةࣰ ثُمَّ یُغۡلَبُونَۗ وَٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوۤا۟ إِلَىٰ جَهَنَّمَ یُحۡشَرُونَ ۝٣٦

Musharraf Hussain

The disbelievers spend their wealth to stop people from the path of Allah, they’ll continue doing so until it becomes a source of regret, and they are defeated. The disbelievers will be banished to Hell,

inna alladhīna kafarū yunfiqūna amwālahum liyaṣuddū ʿan sabīli l-lahi fasayunfiqūnahā thumma takūnu ʿalayhim ḥasratan thumma yugh'labūna wa-alladhīna kafarū ilā jahannama yuḥ'sharūn

8:37

لِیَمِیزَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡخَبِیثَ مِنَ ٱلطَّیِّبِ وَیَجۡعَلَ ٱلۡخَبِیثَ بَعۡضَهُۥ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲ فَیَرۡكُمَهُۥ جَمِیعࣰا فَیَجۡعَلَهُۥ فِی جَهَنَّمَۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرُونَ ۝٣٧

Musharraf Hussain

so that Allah may sort out the wicked from the good; and He will pile up the wicked, layer on layer, in a heap and bulldoze them into Hell. Those are the losers

liyamīza l-lahu l-khabītha mina l-ṭayibi wayajʿala l-khabītha baʿḍahu ʿalā baʿḍin fayarkumahu jamīʿan fayajʿalahu fī jahannama ulāika humu l-khāsirūn

8:38

قُل لِّلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوۤا۟ إِن یَنتَهُوا۟ یُغۡفَرۡ لَهُم مَّا قَدۡ سَلَفَ وَإِن یَعُودُوا۟ فَقَدۡ مَضَتۡ سُنَّتُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٣٨

Musharraf Hussain

Tell the disbelievers to stop their wrongdoings so they may be forgiven sins of the past. If they go back to their evil ways, the example of the people of old is there for them.

qul lilladhīna kafarū in yantahū yugh'far lahum mā qad salafa wa-in yaʿūdū faqad maḍat sunnatu l-awalīn

8:39

وَقَـٰتِلُوهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ لَا تَكُونَ فِتۡنَةࣱ وَیَكُونَ ٱلدِّینُ كُلُّهُۥ لِلَّهِۚ فَإِنِ ٱنتَهَوۡا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِمَا یَعۡمَلُونَ بَصِیرࣱ ۝٣٩

Musharraf Hussain

Fight them so there is no more persecution, and people are free to worship Allah. But if they stop, then Allah sees what they do,

waqātilūhum ḥattā lā takūna fit'natun wayakūna l-dīnu kulluhu lillahi fa-ini intahaw fa-inna l-laha bimā yaʿmalūna baṣīru

8:40

وَإِن تَوَلَّوۡا۟ فَٱعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَوۡلَىٰكُمۡۚ نِعۡمَ ٱلۡمَوۡلَىٰ وَنِعۡمَ ٱلنَّصِیرُ ۝٤٠

Musharraf Hussain

but if they turn away then, know that Allah is your Protector. What a wonderful Protector, and what a wonderful Helper

wa-in tawallaw fa-iʿ'lamū anna l-laha mawlākum niʿ'ma l-mawlā waniʿ'ma l-naṣīr

8:41

۞ وَٱعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنَّمَا غَنِمۡتُم مِّن شَیۡءࣲ فَأَنَّ لِلَّهِ خُمُسَهُۥ وَلِلرَّسُولِ وَلِذِی ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ وَٱلۡیَتَـٰمَىٰ وَٱلۡمَسَـٰكِینِ وَٱبۡنِ ٱلسَّبِیلِ إِن كُنتُمۡ ءَامَنتُم بِٱللَّهِ وَمَاۤ أَنزَلۡنَا عَلَىٰ عَبۡدِنَا یَوۡمَ ٱلۡفُرۡقَانِ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡتَقَى ٱلۡجَمۡعَانِۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ قَدِیرٌ ۝٤١

Musharraf Hussain

Whatever spoils of war you seize, know that a fifth of it belongs to Allah and to the Messenger and his relatives, to orphans, the needy and the traveller. That’s if you believe in Allah and in what We revealed to Our servant on the day of separation of truth from falsehood, the day the two armies met. Allah has power over all things

wa-iʿ'lamū annamā ghanim'tum min shayin fa-anna lillahi khumusahu walilrrasūli walidhī l-qur'bā wal-yatāmā wal-masākīni wa-ib'ni l-sabīli in kuntum āmantum bil-lahi wamā anzalnā ʿalā ʿabdinā yawma l-fur'qāni yawma l-taqā l-jamʿāni wal-lahu ʿalā kulli shayin qadīru

8:42

إِذۡ أَنتُم بِٱلۡعُدۡوَةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَهُم بِٱلۡعُدۡوَةِ ٱلۡقُصۡوَىٰ وَٱلرَّكۡبُ أَسۡفَلَ مِنكُمۡۚ وَلَوۡ تَوَاعَدتُّمۡ لَٱخۡتَلَفۡتُمۡ فِی ٱلۡمِیعَـٰدِ وَلَـٰكِن لِّیَقۡضِیَ ٱللَّهُ أَمۡرࣰا كَانَ مَفۡعُولࣰا لِّیَهۡلِكَ مَنۡ هَلَكَ عَنۢ بَیِّنَةࣲ وَیَحۡیَىٰ مَنۡ حَیَّ عَنۢ بَیِّنَةࣲۗ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَسَمِیعٌ عَلِیمٌ ۝٤٢

Musharraf Hussain

Remember when you were grouped on the near side of the valley, and Makkans on the far side, and the caravan below you. If you had tried to reach a formal agreement to meet there, you would certainly have differed over the time and place; but that occurred so that Allah could accomplish what was preordained, so that whoever perished should do so on the basis of clear proof and whoever survived should do so on the same basis. Allah is the Hearer, the Knower.

idh antum bil-ʿud'wati l-dun'yā wahum bil-ʿud'wati l-quṣ'wā wal-rakbu asfala minkum walaw tawāʿadttum la-ikh'talaftum fī l-mīʿādi walākin liyaqḍiya l-lahu amran kāna mafʿūlan liyahlika man halaka ʿan bayyinatin wayaḥyā man ḥayya ʿan bayyinatin wa-inna l-laha lasamīʿun ʿalīmu

8:43

إِذۡ یُرِیكَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِی مَنَامِكَ قَلِیلࣰاۖ وَلَوۡ أَرَىٰكَهُمۡ كَثِیرࣰا لَّفَشِلۡتُمۡ وَلَتَنَـٰزَعۡتُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَمۡرِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَلَّمَۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِیمُۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ ۝٤٣

Musharraf Hussain

Remember when Allah showed them to you to be small in number as you dozed. If He had shown them to you as large in number, you would have lost heart and quarrelled over the matter amongst yourselves, but Allah saved you from disagreements. He knows well people’s innermost thoughts.

idh yurīkahumu l-lahu fī manāmika qalīlan walaw arākahum kathīran lafashil'tum walatanāzaʿtum fī l-amri walākinna l-laha sallama innahu ʿalīmun bidhāti l-ṣudūr

8:44

وَإِذۡ یُرِیكُمُوهُمۡ إِذِ ٱلۡتَقَیۡتُمۡ فِیۤ أَعۡیُنِكُمۡ قَلِیلࣰا وَیُقَلِّلُكُمۡ فِیۤ أَعۡیُنِهِمۡ لِیَقۡضِیَ ٱللَّهُ أَمۡرࣰا كَانَ مَفۡعُولࣰاۗ وَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ تُرۡجَعُ ٱلۡأُمُورُ ۝٤٤

Musharraf Hussain

And when you faced each other, He made them appear to be few in your eyes, and He made you seem even fewer in number in their eyes, so that He could accomplish what had been preordained. Eventually all matters return to Allah

wa-idh yurīkumūhum idhi l-taqaytum fī aʿyunikum qalīlan wayuqallilukum fī aʿyunihim liyaqḍiya l-lahu amran kāna mafʿūlan wa-ilā l-lahi tur'jaʿu l-umūr

8:45

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِذَا لَقِیتُمۡ فِئَةࣰ فَٱثۡبُتُوا۟ وَٱذۡكُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ كَثِیرࣰا لَّعَلَّكُمۡ تُفۡلِحُونَ ۝٤٥

Musharraf Hussain

Believers, whenever you face an army in battle, stand firm and remember Allah a lot so you may triumph.

yāayyuhā alladhīna āmanū idhā laqītum fi-atan fa-uth'butū wa-udh'kurū l-laha kathīran laʿallakum tuf'liḥūn

8:46

وَأَطِیعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَلَا تَنَـٰزَعُوا۟ فَتَفۡشَلُوا۟ وَتَذۡهَبَ رِیحُكُمۡۖ وَٱصۡبِرُوۤا۟ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِینَ ۝٤٦

Musharraf Hussain

Obey Allah and His Messenger; don’t quarrel among yourselves nor lose heart and become demoralised, but persevere. Allah is with those who persevere.

wa-aṭīʿū l-laha warasūlahu walā tanāzaʿū fatafshalū watadhhaba rīḥukum wa-iṣ'birū inna l-laha maʿa l-ṣābirīn

8:47

وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِینَ خَرَجُوا۟ مِن دِیَـٰرِهِم بَطَرࣰا وَرِئَاۤءَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَیَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا یَعۡمَلُونَ مُحِیطࣱ ۝٤٧

Musharraf Hussain

And don’t be like those who set out from their homes pompously, showing off to people and stopping people from coming to Allah’s way. Allah has complete control of what they do.

walā takūnū ka-alladhīna kharajū min diyārihim baṭaran wariāa l-nāsi wayaṣuddūna ʿan sabīli l-lahi wal-lahu bimā yaʿmalūna muḥīṭu

8:48

وَإِذۡ زَیَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُ أَعۡمَـٰلَهُمۡ وَقَالَ لَا غَالِبَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ مِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَإِنِّی جَارࣱ لَّكُمۡۖ فَلَمَّا تَرَاۤءَتِ ٱلۡفِئَتَانِ نَكَصَ عَلَىٰ عَقِبَیۡهِ وَقَالَ إِنِّی بَرِیۤءࣱ مِّنكُمۡ إِنِّیۤ أَرَىٰ مَا لَا تَرَوۡنَ إِنِّیۤ أَخَافُ ٱللَّهَۚ وَٱللَّهُ شَدِیدُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ ۝٤٨

Musharraf Hussain

Remember when Satan made their action appear attractive to them and said, “No one will be able to defeat you today, with me close beside you.” However, when the two armies caught sight of each other, Satan turned on his heels, saying, “I have nothing to do with you, I see what you can’t see, and I fear Allah. Allah’s punishment is severe.

wa-idh zayyana lahumu l-shayṭānu aʿmālahum waqāla lā ghāliba lakumu l-yawma mina l-nāsi wa-innī jārun lakum falammā tarāati l-fi-atāni nakaṣa ʿalā ʿaqibayhi waqāla innī barīon minkum innī arā mā lā tarawna innī akhāfu l-laha wal-lahu shadīdu l-ʿiqāb

8:49

إِذۡ یَقُولُ ٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقُونَ وَٱلَّذِینَ فِی قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ غَرَّ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ دِینُهُمۡۗ وَمَن یَتَوَكَّلۡ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِیزٌ حَكِیمࣱ ۝٤٩

Musharraf Hussain

Remember when the hypocrites and those with sickness in their hearts said, “Their religion has deceived these people.” Whoever puts his trust in Allah shall find Allah is Almighty, Wise.

idh yaqūlu l-munāfiqūna wa-alladhīna fī qulūbihim maraḍun gharra hāulāi dīnuhum waman yatawakkal ʿalā l-lahi fa-inna l-laha ʿazīzun ḥakīmu

8:50

وَلَوۡ تَرَىٰۤ إِذۡ یَتَوَفَّى ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ یَضۡرِبُونَ وُجُوهَهُمۡ وَأَدۡبَـٰرَهُمۡ وَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابَ ٱلۡحَرِیقِ ۝٥٠

Musharraf Hussain

If you could see, as the disbelievers’ souls were taken from them, the angels striking their faces and backs, saying, “Taste the punishment of the Blaze.

walaw tarā idh yatawaffā alladhīna kafarū l-malāikatu yaḍribūna wujūhahum wa-adbārahum wadhūqū ʿadhāba l-ḥarīq

8:51

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِمَا قَدَّمَتۡ أَیۡدِیكُمۡ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَیۡسَ بِظَلَّـٰمࣲ لِّلۡعَبِیدِ ۝٥١

Musharraf Hussain

This is in return for what your hands produced. Allah never wrongs His servants.”

dhālika bimā qaddamat aydīkum wa-anna l-laha laysa biẓallāmin lil'ʿabīd

8:52

كَدَأۡبِ ءَالِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡۚ كَفَرُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِذُنُوبِهِمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَوِیࣱّ شَدِیدُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ ۝٥٢

Musharraf Hussain

The same happened to Pharaoh’s people and those before them: they rejected Allah’s signs, so Allah punished them for their sins. Allah is Strong, Severe in His punishment.

kadabi āli fir'ʿawna wa-alladhīna min qablihim kafarū biāyāti l-lahi fa-akhadhahumu l-lahu bidhunūbihim inna l-laha qawiyyun shadīdu l-ʿiqāb

8:53

ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَمۡ یَكُ مُغَیِّرࣰا نِّعۡمَةً أَنۡعَمَهَا عَلَىٰ قَوۡمٍ حَتَّىٰ یُغَیِّرُوا۟ مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمۡ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَمِیعٌ عَلِیمࣱ ۝٥٣

Musharraf Hussain

That is because Allah does not change a favour that He bestowed on a people until they change what is within themselves; and Allah is Hearing, Knowing.

dhālika bi-anna l-laha lam yaku mughayyiran niʿ'matan anʿamahā ʿalā qawmin ḥattā yughayyirū mā bi-anfusihim wa-anna l-laha samīʿun ʿalīmu

8:54

كَدَأۡبِ ءَالِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡۚ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ فَأَهۡلَكۡنَـٰهُم بِذُنُوبِهِمۡ وَأَغۡرَقۡنَاۤ ءَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنَۚ وَكُلࣱّ كَانُوا۟ ظَـٰلِمِینَ ۝٥٤

Musharraf Hussain

Similar to Pharaoh’s people and those before them: they denied their Lord’s signs, so We destroyed them for their sins, and We caused Pharaoh’s people to be drowned. They were all wrongdoers

kadabi āli fir'ʿawna wa-alladhīna min qablihim kadhabū biāyāti rabbihim fa-ahlaknāhum bidhunūbihim wa-aghraqnā āla fir'ʿawna wakullun kānū ẓālimīn

8:55

إِنَّ شَرَّ ٱلدَّوَاۤبِّ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَهُمۡ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٥٥

Musharraf Hussain

The worst of creatures in the sight of Allah are the deniers, they don’t believe;

inna sharra l-dawābi ʿinda l-lahi alladhīna kafarū fahum lā yu'minūn

8:56

ٱلَّذِینَ عَـٰهَدتَّ مِنۡهُمۡ ثُمَّ یَنقُضُونَ عَهۡدَهُمۡ فِی كُلِّ مَرَّةࣲ وَهُمۡ لَا یَتَّقُونَ ۝٥٦

Musharraf Hussain

and those you made a treaty with, and each time they broke their treaty they weren’t mindful of Allah.

alladhīna ʿāhadtta min'hum thumma yanquḍūna ʿahdahum fī kulli marratin wahum lā yattaqūn

8:57

فَإِمَّا تَثۡقَفَنَّهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡحَرۡبِ فَشَرِّدۡ بِهِم مَّنۡ خَلۡفَهُمۡ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَذَّكَّرُونَ ۝٥٧

Musharraf Hussain

Whenever you come across them in battle crush them so that those who come after them may learn a lesson.

fa-immā tathqafannahum fī l-ḥarbi fasharrid bihim man khalfahum laʿallahum yadhakkarūn

8:58

وَإِمَّا تَخَافَنَّ مِن قَوۡمٍ خِیَانَةࣰ فَٱنۢبِذۡ إِلَیۡهِمۡ عَلَىٰ سَوَاۤءٍۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یُحِبُّ ٱلۡخَاۤىِٕنِینَ ۝٥٨

Musharraf Hussain

If you fear treachery from someone, then tackle them in the same way. Allah dislikes traitors

wa-immā takhāfanna min qawmin khiyānatan fa-inbidh ilayhim ʿalā sawāin inna l-laha lā yuḥibbu l-khāinīn

8:59

وَلَا یَحۡسَبَنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ سَبَقُوۤا۟ۚ إِنَّهُمۡ لَا یُعۡجِزُونَ ۝٥٩

Musharraf Hussain

Don’t let the disbelievers think they have won, they can’t undo Allah’s decree.

walā yaḥsabanna alladhīna kafarū sabaqū innahum lā yuʿ'jizūn

8:60

وَأَعِدُّوا۟ لَهُم مَّا ٱسۡتَطَعۡتُم مِّن قُوَّةࣲ وَمِن رِّبَاطِ ٱلۡخَیۡلِ تُرۡهِبُونَ بِهِۦ عَدُوَّ ٱللَّهِ وَعَدُوَّكُمۡ وَءَاخَرِینَ مِن دُونِهِمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ یَعۡلَمُهُمۡۚ وَمَا تُنفِقُوا۟ مِن شَیۡءࣲ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ یُوَفَّ إِلَیۡكُمۡ وَأَنتُمۡ لَا تُظۡلَمُونَ ۝٦٠

Musharraf Hussain

So prepare whatever force you can against them, and cavalry, to deter Allah’s and your enemies, and others beside them whom you don’t know, but Allah knows them. Whatever you spend in Allah’s way will be reimbursed to you, and you will not be deprived.

wa-aʿiddū lahum mā is'taṭaʿtum min quwwatin wamin ribāṭi l-khayli tur'hibūna bihi ʿaduwwa l-lahi waʿaduwwakum waākharīna min dūnihim lā taʿlamūnahumu l-lahu yaʿlamuhum wamā tunfiqū min shayin fī sabīli l-lahi yuwaffa ilaykum wa-antum lā tuẓ'lamūn

8:61

۞ وَإِن جَنَحُوا۟ لِلسَّلۡمِ فَٱجۡنَحۡ لَهَا وَتَوَكَّلۡ عَلَى ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِیعُ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ۝٦١

Musharraf Hussain

However, if they incline towards peace you incline towards it, and put your trust in Allah. He is the Hearer, the Knower.

wa-in janaḥū lilssalmi fa-ij'naḥ lahā watawakkal ʿalā l-lahi innahu huwa l-samīʿu l-ʿalīm

8:62

وَإِن یُرِیدُوۤا۟ أَن یَخۡدَعُوكَ فَإِنَّ حَسۡبَكَ ٱللَّهُۚ هُوَ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَیَّدَكَ بِنَصۡرِهِۦ وَبِٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٦٢

Musharraf Hussain

Should they wish to trick you, Messenger, then Allah is sufficient for you, He strengthened you with His support and with the believers.

wa-in yurīdū an yakhdaʿūka fa-inna ḥasbaka l-lahu huwa alladhī ayyadaka binaṣrihi wabil-mu'minīn

8:63

وَأَلَّفَ بَیۡنَ قُلُوبِهِمۡۚ لَوۡ أَنفَقۡتَ مَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِیعࣰا مَّاۤ أَلَّفۡتَ بَیۡنَ قُلُوبِهِمۡ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ أَلَّفَ بَیۡنَهُمۡۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَزِیزٌ حَكِیمࣱ ۝٦٣

Musharraf Hussain

He united their hearts together. Even if you spent all that there is on Earth, you couldn’t unite their hearts together, but Allah united them. He is Almighty, the Wise

wa-allafa bayna qulūbihim law anfaqta mā fī l-arḍi jamīʿan mā allafta bayna qulūbihim walākinna l-laha allafa baynahum innahu ʿazīzun ḥakīmu

8:64

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّبِیُّ حَسۡبُكَ ٱللَّهُ وَمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٦٤

Musharraf Hussain

Prophet, Allah is sufficient for you and who follow you into battle from among the believers.

yāayyuhā l-nabiyu ḥasbuka l-lahu wamani ittabaʿaka mina l-mu'minīn

8:65

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّبِیُّ حَرِّضِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ عَلَى ٱلۡقِتَالِۚ إِن یَكُن مِّنكُمۡ عِشۡرُونَ صَـٰبِرُونَ یَغۡلِبُوا۟ مِا۟ئَتَیۡنِۚ وَإِن یَكُن مِّنكُم مِّا۟ئَةࣱ یَغۡلِبُوۤا۟ أَلۡفࣰا مِّنَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِأَنَّهُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ لَّا یَفۡقَهُونَ ۝٦٥

Musharraf Hussain

Prophet, urge the believers to fight in His way. It may be that your twenty steadfast men can defeat a force of two hundred, and a hundred of you can defeat a thousand of the disbelievers, because they are people who don’t understand.

yāayyuhā l-nabiyu ḥarriḍi l-mu'minīna ʿalā l-qitāli in yakun minkum ʿish'rūna ṣābirūna yaghlibū mi-atayni wa-in yakun minkum mi-atun yaghlibū alfan mina alladhīna kafarū bi-annahum qawmun lā yafqahūn

8:66

ٱلۡءَـٰنَ خَفَّفَ ٱللَّهُ عَنكُمۡ وَعَلِمَ أَنَّ فِیكُمۡ ضَعۡفࣰاۚ فَإِن یَكُن مِّنكُم مِّا۟ئَةࣱ صَابِرَةࣱ یَغۡلِبُوا۟ مِا۟ئَتَیۡنِۚ وَإِن یَكُن مِّنكُمۡ أَلۡفࣱ یَغۡلِبُوۤا۟ أَلۡفَیۡنِ بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِۗ وَٱللَّهُ مَعَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِینَ ۝٦٦

Musharraf Hussain

But for now Allah has lightened your load, knowing that there is some weakness in you. So it may be that a hundred steadfast men amongst you can defeat two hundred, and that a thousand of you can defeat two thousand with Allah’s help; and rest assured, Allah is with the steadfast

al-āna khaffafa l-lahu ʿankum waʿalima anna fīkum ḍaʿfan fa-in yakun minkum mi-atun ṣābiratun yaghlibū mi-atayni wa-in yakun minkum alfun yaghlibū alfayni bi-idh'ni l-lahi wal-lahu maʿa l-ṣābirīn

8:67

مَا كَانَ لِنَبِیٍّ أَن یَكُونَ لَهُۥۤ أَسۡرَىٰ حَتَّىٰ یُثۡخِنَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ تُرِیدُونَ عَرَضَ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَٱللَّهُ یُرِیدُ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةَۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَزِیزٌ حَكِیمࣱ ۝٦٧

Musharraf Hussain

It is not fitting for a prophet to take captives until he has won on the battle field. Believers, you want what this world offers,but Allah desires the Hereafter for you. Allah is Almighty, Wise.

mā kāna linabiyyin an yakūna lahu asrā ḥattā yuth'khina fī l-arḍi turīdūna ʿaraḍa l-dun'yā wal-lahu yurīdu l-ākhirata wal-lahu ʿazīzun ḥakīmu

8:68

لَّوۡلَا كِتَـٰبࣱ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ سَبَقَ لَمَسَّكُمۡ فِیمَاۤ أَخَذۡتُمۡ عَذَابٌ عَظِیمࣱ ۝٦٨

Musharraf Hussain

Had it not been for a decree issued in advance from Allah, you would have been mightily punished for the action that you took.

lawlā kitābun mina l-lahi sabaqa lamassakum fīmā akhadhtum ʿadhābun ʿaẓīmu

8:69

فَكُلُوا۟ مِمَّا غَنِمۡتُمۡ حَلَـٰلࣰا طَیِّبࣰاۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝٦٩

Musharraf Hussain

So enjoy of your spoils of war, the lawful and healthy, and be ever mindful of Allah. Allah is Forgiving, Kind.

fakulū mimmā ghanim'tum ḥalālan ṭayyiban wa-ittaqū l-laha inna l-laha ghafūrun raḥīmu

8:70

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّبِیُّ قُل لِّمَن فِیۤ أَیۡدِیكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَسۡرَىٰۤ إِن یَعۡلَمِ ٱللَّهُ فِی قُلُوبِكُمۡ خَیۡرࣰا یُؤۡتِكُمۡ خَیۡرࣰا مِّمَّاۤ أُخِذَ مِنكُمۡ وَیَغۡفِرۡ لَكُمۡۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝٧٠

Musharraf Hussain

Prophet, tell the captives you are holding: “If Allah finds any good in your hearts, He will give you better than what has been taken from you and will forgive you. Allah is Forgiving, Kind.”

yāayyuhā l-nabiyu qul liman fī aydīkum mina l-asrā in yaʿlami l-lahu fī qulūbikum khayran yu'tikum khayran mimmā ukhidha minkum wayaghfir lakum wal-lahu ghafūrun raḥīmu

8:71

وَإِن یُرِیدُوا۟ خِیَانَتَكَ فَقَدۡ خَانُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مِن قَبۡلُ فَأَمۡكَنَ مِنۡهُمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِیمٌ حَكِیمٌ ۝٧١

Musharraf Hussain

If they act treacherously towards you, they have done so previously with Allah, yet He has given you control over them. Allah is the Knower, the Wise

wa-in yurīdū khiyānataka faqad khānū l-laha min qablu fa-amkana min'hum wal-lahu ʿalīmun ḥakīmu

8:72

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَهَاجَرُوا۟ وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟ بِأَمۡوَ ٰلِهِمۡ وَأَنفُسِهِمۡ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَاوَوا۟ وَّنَصَرُوۤا۟ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ أَوۡلِیَاۤءُ بَعۡضࣲۚ وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَلَمۡ یُهَاجِرُوا۟ مَا لَكُم مِّن وَلَـٰیَتِهِم مِّن شَیۡءٍ حَتَّىٰ یُهَاجِرُوا۟ۚ وَإِنِ ٱسۡتَنصَرُوكُمۡ فِی ٱلدِّینِ فَعَلَیۡكُمُ ٱلنَّصۡرُ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ قَوۡمِۭ بَیۡنَكُمۡ وَبَیۡنَهُم مِّیثَـٰقࣱۗ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ بَصِیرࣱ ۝٧٢

Musharraf Hussain

The believers who emigrated and struggled with their wealth and lives in Allah’s way, and those who offered them refuge and support, they are each other’s protectors. Those who believed but didn’t emigrate, you are not responsible for them until they emigrate. If they should seek your help on religious grounds, then you must help them except against a people with whom you have a treaty. Allah sees what you do.

inna alladhīna āmanū wahājarū wajāhadū bi-amwālihim wa-anfusihim fī sabīli l-lahi wa-alladhīna āwaw wanaṣarū ulāika baʿḍuhum awliyāu baʿḍin wa-alladhīna āmanū walam yuhājirū mā lakum min walāyatihim min shayin ḥattā yuhājirū wa-ini is'tanṣarūkum fī l-dīni faʿalaykumu l-naṣru illā ʿalā qawmin baynakum wabaynahum mīthāqun wal-lahu bimā taʿmalūna baṣīru

8:73

وَٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ بَعۡضُهُمۡ أَوۡلِیَاۤءُ بَعۡضٍۚ إِلَّا تَفۡعَلُوهُ تَكُن فِتۡنَةࣱ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَفَسَادࣱ كَبِیرࣱ ۝٧٣

Musharraf Hussain

The disbelievers protect each other. If you don’t do likewise, there will be a lot of persecution and violence in the land.

wa-alladhīna kafarū baʿḍuhum awliyāu baʿḍin illā tafʿalūhu takun fit'natun fī l-arḍi wafasādun kabīru

8:74

وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَهَاجَرُوا۟ وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَاوَوا۟ وَّنَصَرُوۤا۟ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ حَقࣰّاۚ لَّهُم مَّغۡفِرَةࣱ وَرِزۡقࣱ كَرِیمࣱ ۝٧٤

Musharraf Hussain

The believers who emigrated and struggled in Allah’s way, and those who offered them refuge and support in Madinah are the true believers; they shall have forgiveness and a generous provision.

wa-alladhīna āmanū wahājarū wajāhadū fī sabīli l-lahi wa-alladhīna āwaw wanaṣarū ulāika humu l-mu'minūna ḥaqqan lahum maghfiratun wariz'qun karīmu

8:75

وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعۡدُ وَهَاجَرُوا۟ وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟ مَعَكُمۡ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ مِنكُمۡۚ وَأُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلۡأَرۡحَامِ بَعۡضُهُمۡ أَوۡلَىٰ بِبَعۡضࣲ فِی كِتَـٰبِ ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِكُلِّ شَیۡءٍ عَلِیمُۢ ۝٧٥

Musharraf Hussain

And those later believers who emigrated and struggled with you in Allah’s way, they are one with you. However, blood relationships give them even greater rights over each other in Allah’s Book. Allah knows everything

wa-alladhīna āmanū min baʿdu wahājarū wajāhadū maʿakum fa-ulāika minkum wa-ulū l-arḥāmi baʿḍuhum awlā bibaʿḍin fī kitābi l-lahi inna l-laha bikulli shayin ʿalīmu
