96:1 ›
اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ
Amatul Rahman Omar
Recite with the name of your Lord Who created (all the universe)
Iqra/ bi-ismi rabbika allathee khalaqa
96:2 ›
خَلَقَ الْإِنسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ
Amatul Rahman Omar
Who (also) created human being from a clot of blood
Khalaqa al-insana min AAalaqin
96:3 ›
اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ
Amatul Rahman Omar
Proclaim, for your Lord is the Most Benignant
Iqra/ warabbuka al-akramu
96:4 ›
الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ
Amatul Rahman Omar
Who taught knowledge by means of the pen
Allathee AAallama bialqalami
96:5 ›
عَلَّمَ الْإِنسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ
Amatul Rahman Omar
He taught human being what he did not know
AAallama al-insana ma lam yaAAlam
96:6 ›
كَلَّا إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَيَطْغَىٰ
Amatul Rahman Omar
Nay! (it is not at all as these people think), this human being does indeed indulge in transgression
Kalla inna al-insana layatgha
96:7 ›
أَن رَّآهُ اسْتَغْنَىٰ
Amatul Rahman Omar
Because he thinks himself to be independent (of God)
An raahu istaghna
96:8 ›
إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَىٰ
Amatul Rahman Omar
(Mankind!) surely, to your Lord is the ultimate return (of you all to be accounted for your deeds)
Inna ila rabbika alrrujAAa
96:9 ›
أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَىٰ
Amatul Rahman Omar
Have you considered (the case of one) who forbid
Araayta allathee yanha
96:10 ›
عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰ
Amatul Rahman Omar
A servant (of God) when he prays (to His Lord)
AAabdan itha salla
96:11 ›
أَرَأَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَىٰ
Amatul Rahman Omar
(Mankind!) do you ever consider if he (who prays to God) follows the right guidance
Araayta in kana AAala alhuda
96:12 ›
أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَىٰ
Amatul Rahman Omar
Or enjoins guarding against evil. (How bad will be the end of that forbidder?
Aw amara bialttaqwa
96:13 ›
أَرَأَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
Amatul Rahman Omar
Do you (also) consider if a person (- the rejecter of Divine commandments) belies (them) and turns his back (upon the truth, what his end will be like)
Araayta in kaththaba watawalla
96:14 ›
أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَىٰ
Amatul Rahman Omar
Does He not know that Allah indeed observes (all)
Alam yaAAlam bi-anna Allaha yara
96:15 ›
كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ
Amatul Rahman Omar
Nay, (it will never be as the rejecter desires.) If he does not desist (from these wicked ways), We shall assuredly (seize him and) drag him by the forelock
Kalla la-in lam yantahi lanasfaAAan bialnnasiyati
96:16 ›
نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ
Amatul Rahman Omar
A lying, sinful forelock
Nasiyatin kathibatin khati-atin</b
96:17 ›
فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ
Amatul Rahman Omar
Then let him call members of his association
FalyadAAu nadiyahu
96:18 ›
سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ
Amatul Rahman Omar
We will call Our brave defending guards
SanadAAu alzzabaniyata
96:19 ›
كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِب
Amatul Rahman Omar
Nay, (he will never succeed in his evil designs.) Yield not to him, rather continue to prostrate yourself (before your Lord) and draw near (to Him). [Prostration]
Kalla la tutiAAhu waosjud waiqtarib
