1 The Clot

اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ

Recite: In the name of yoursg Lord Who created—

Iqra/ bi-ismi rabbika allathee khalaqa

خَلَقَ الْإِنسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ

created man from a clinging form.

Khalaqa al-insana min AAalaqin

اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ

Recite: And yoursg Lord is the Most Noble,

Iqra/ warabbuka al-akramu

الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ

the One Who taught by the pen—

Allathee AAallama bialqalami

عَلَّمَ الْإِنسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ

taught man what he never knew.

AAallama al-insana ma lam yaAAlam

كَلَّا إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَيَطْغَىٰ

But no! Indeed, man surely exceeds all limits,

Kalla inna al-insana layatgha

أَن رَّآهُ اسْتَغْنَىٰ

for he sees himself self-sufficient.

An raahu istaghna

إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَىٰ

Indeed, to yoursg Lord is the ultimate return.

Inna ila rabbika alrrujAAa

أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَىٰ

Have yousg seen the one who forbids

Araayta allathee yanha

عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰ

a servant when he prays?

AAabdan itha salla

أَرَأَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَىٰ

Have yousg seen whether he was rightly guided

Araayta in kana AAala alhuda

أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَىٰ

or commanded to mindfulness (of God)?

Aw amara bialttaqwa

أَرَأَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ

Have yousg seen whether he disbelieved and turned away?

Araayta in kaththaba watawalla

أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَىٰ

Has he not realized that Allah sees?

Alam yaAAlam bi-anna Allaha yara

كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ

But no! Surely, if he does not desist, We will drag (him) by the forelock—

Kalla la-in lam yantahi lanasfaAAan bialnnasiyati

نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ

a lying, wrongful forelock.

Nasiyatin kathibatin khati-atin</b

فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ

Let him call on his gang;

FalyadAAu nadiyahu

سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ

We will call the guards of Hell.

SanadAAu alzzabaniyata

كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِب

But no! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and draw near.

Kalla la tutiAAhu waosjud waiqtarib
