فَهَدَيْنَٰهُمْ fahadaynāhum

فَٱسْتَحَبُّوا۟ fa-is'taḥabbū
but they preferred V
ٱلْعَمَىٰ l-ʿamā
[the] blindness Noun
عَلَى ʿalā

ٱلْهُدَىٰ l-hudā
the guidance Noun
فَأَخَذَتْهُمْ fa-akhadhathum
so seized them V
صَٰعِقَةُ ṣāʿiqatu
a thunderbolt Noun
ٱلْعَذَابِ l-ʿadhābi
(of) the punishment Noun
ٱلْهُونِ l-hūni
humiliating Noun
بِمَا bimā
for what Noun
كَانُوا۟ kānū
they used to V
يَكْسِبُونَ yaksibūna

As for Thamud, We gave them guidance but they preferred blindness, so they were struck by a blast of humiliating punishment for their misdeeds

وَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَهَدَیۡنَـٰهُمۡ فَٱسۡتَحَبُّوا۟ ٱلۡعَمَىٰ عَلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰ فَأَخَذَتۡهُمۡ صَـٰعِقَةُ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡهُونِ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡسِبُونَ ۝١٧

wa-ammā thamūdu fahadaynāhum fa-is'taḥabbū l-ʿamā ʿalā l-hudā fa-akhadhathum ṣāʿiqatu l-ʿadhābi l-hūni bimā kānū yaksibūn
