وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِی ٱشۡتَرَىٰهُ مِن مِّصۡرَ لِٱمۡرَأَتِهِۦۤ أَكۡرِمِی مَثۡوَىٰهُ عَسَىٰۤ أَن یَنفَعَنَاۤ أَوۡ نَتَّخِذَهُۥ وَلَدࣰاۚ وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ مَكَّنَّا لِیُوسُفَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلِنُعَلِّمَهُۥ مِن تَأۡوِیلِ ٱلۡأَحَادِیثِۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَالِبٌ عَلَىٰۤ أَمۡرِهِۦ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٢١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And the one from Egypt who bought him said to his wife, "Make his residence comfortable. Perhaps he will benefit us, or we will adopt him as a son." And thus, We established Joseph in the land that We might teach him the interpretation of events. And Allah is predominant over His affair, but most of the people do not know
Abdel Haleem: The Egyptian who bought him said to his wife, ‘Look after him well! He may be useful to us, or we may adopt him as a son.’ In this way We settled Joseph in that land and later taught him how to interpret dreams: God always prevails in His purpose, though most people do not realize it
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And he of Egypt who purchased him said unto his wife: Receive him honourably. Perchance he may prove useful to us or we may adopt him as a son. Thus we established Joseph in the land that We might teach him the interpretation of events. And Allah was predominant in His career, but most of mankind know not
Joseph 12:83 Verb
قَالَ بَلۡ سَوَّلَتۡ لَكُمۡ أَنفُسُكُمۡ أَمۡرࣰاۖ فَصَبۡرࣱ جَمِیلٌۖ عَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن یَأۡتِیَنِی بِهِمۡ جَمِیعًاۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ٱلۡحَكِیمُ ۝٨٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): [Jacob] said, "Rather, your souls have enticed you to something, so patience is most fitting. Perhaps Allah will bring them to me all together. Indeed it is He who is the Knowing, the Wise."
Abdel Haleem: Their father said, ‘No! Your souls have prompted you to do wrong! But it is best to be patient: may God bring all of them back to me- He alone is the All Knowing, the All Wise,’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: (And when they came unto their father and had spoken thus to him) he said: Nay, but your minds have beguiled you into something. (My course is) comely patience! It may be that Allah will bring them all unto me. Lo! He, only He, is the Knower, the Wise
Children of Israel, The Israelites 17:51 Verb
أَوۡ خَلۡقࣰا مِّمَّا یَكۡبُرُ فِی صُدُورِكُمۡۚ فَسَیَقُولُونَ مَن یُعِیدُنَاۖ قُلِ ٱلَّذِی فَطَرَكُمۡ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةࣲۚ فَسَیُنۡغِضُونَ إِلَیۡكَ رُءُوسَهُمۡ وَیَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هُوَۖ قُلۡ عَسَىٰۤ أَن یَكُونَ قَرِیبࣰا ۝٥١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Or [any] creation of that which is great within your breasts." And they will say, "Who will restore us?" Say, "He who brought you forth the first time." Then they will nod their heads toward you and say, "When is that?" Say, "Perhaps it will be soon
Abdel Haleem: or any other substance you think hard to bring to life.’ Then they will say, ‘Who will bring us back?’ Say, ‘The One who created you the first time.’ Then they will shake their heads at you and say, ‘When will that be?’ Say, ‘It may well be very soon
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Or some created thing that is yet greater in your thoughts! Then they will say: Who shall bring us back (to life). Say: He Who created you at the first. Then will they shake their heads at thee, and say: When will it be? Say: It will perhaps be soon
Children of Israel, The Israelites 17:79 Verb
وَمِنَ ٱلَّیۡلِ فَتَهَجَّدۡ بِهِۦ نَافِلَةࣰ لَّكَ عَسَىٰۤ أَن یَبۡعَثَكَ رَبُّكَ مَقَامࣰا مَّحۡمُودࣰا ۝٧٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And from [part of] the night, pray with it as additional [worship] for you; it is expected that your Lord will resurrect you to a praised station
Abdel Haleem: and dur-ing the night wake up and pray, as an extra offering of your own, so that your Lord may raise you to a [highly] praised status
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And some part of the night awake for it, a largess for thee. It may be that thy Lord will raise thee to a praised estate
Children of Israel, The Israelites 17:8 Verb
عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمۡ أَن یَرۡحَمَكُمۡۚ وَإِنۡ عُدتُّمۡ عُدۡنَاۘ وَجَعَلۡنَا جَهَنَّمَ لِلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ حَصِیرًا ۝٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): [Then Allah said], "It is expected, [if you repent], that your Lord will have mercy upon you. But if you return [to sin], We will return [to punishment]. And We have made Hell, for the disbelievers, a prison-bed."
Abdel Haleem: Your Lord may yet have mercy on you, but if you do the same again, so shall We: We have made Hell a prison for those who defy [Our warning]
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: It may be that your Lord will have mercy on you, but if ye repeat (the crime) We shall repeat (the punishment), and We have appointed hell a dungeon for the disbelievers
The Cave 18:24 Verb
إِلَّاۤ أَن یَشَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُۚ وَٱذۡكُر رَّبَّكَ إِذَا نَسِیتَ وَقُلۡ عَسَىٰۤ أَن یَهۡدِیَنِ رَبِّی لِأَقۡرَبَ مِنۡ هَـٰذَا رَشَدࣰا ۝٢٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Except [when adding], "If Allah wills." And remember your Lord when you forget [it] and say, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to what is nearer than this to right conduct."
Abdel Haleem: without adding, ‘God willing,’ and, whenever you forget, remember your Lord and say, ‘May my Lord guide me closer to what is right.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Except if Allah will. And remember thy Lord when thou forgettest, and say: It may be that my Lord guideth me unto a nearer way of truth than this
The Cave 18:40 Verb
فَعَسَىٰ رَبِّیۤ أَن یُؤۡتِیَنِ خَیۡرࣰا مِّن جَنَّتِكَ وَیُرۡسِلَ عَلَیۡهَا حُسۡبَانࣰا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ فَتُصۡبِحَ صَعِیدࣰا زَلَقًا ۝٤٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): It may be that my Lord will give me [something] better than your garden and will send upon it a calamity from the sky, and it will become a smooth, dusty ground
Abdel Haleem: my Lord may well give me something better than your garden, and send thunderbolts on your garden from the sky, so that it becomes a heap of barren dust
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Yet it may be that my Lord will give me better than thy garden, and will send on it a bolt from heaven, and some morning it will be a smooth hillside
Mary 19:48 Verb
وَأَعۡتَزِلُكُمۡ وَمَا تَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَأَدۡعُوا۟ رَبِّی عَسَىٰۤ أَلَّاۤ أَكُونَ بِدُعَاۤءِ رَبِّی شَقِیࣰّا ۝٤٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And I will leave you and those you invoke other than Allah and will invoke my Lord. I expect that I will not be in invocation to my Lord unhappy."
Abdel Haleem: but for now I will leave you, and the idols you all pray to, and I will pray to my Lord and trust that my prayer will not be in vain.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: I shall withdraw from you and that unto which ye pray beside Allah, and I shall pray unto my Lord. It may be that, in prayer unto my Lord, I shall not be unblest
The Ant, The Ants 27:72 Verb
قُلۡ عَسَىٰۤ أَن یَكُونَ رَدِفَ لَكُم بَعۡضُ ٱلَّذِی تَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَ ۝٧٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Say, "Perhaps it is close behind you - some of that for which you are impatient
Abdel Haleem: Say, ‘Maybe some of what you seek to hasten is near at hand.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Say: It may be that a part of that which ye would hasten on is close behind you
The Story, Stories, The Narrative 28:22 Verb
وَلَمَّا تَوَجَّهَ تِلۡقَاۤءَ مَدۡیَنَ قَالَ عَسَىٰ رَبِّیۤ أَن یَهۡدِیَنِی سَوَاۤءَ ٱلسَّبِیلِ ۝٢٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And when he directed himself toward Madyan, he said, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to the sound way."
Abdel Haleem: As he made his way towards Midian, he was saying, ‘May my Lord guide me to the right way.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And when he turned his face toward Midian, he said: Peradventure my Lord will guide me in the right road
The Story, Stories, The Narrative 28:67 Verb
فَأَمَّا مَن تَابَ وَءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحࣰا فَعَسَىٰۤ أَن یَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحِینَ ۝٦٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): But as for one who had repented, believed, and done righteousness, it is promised by Allah that he will be among the successful
Abdel Haleem: Yet anyone who has repented, believed, and done good deeds can hope to find himself among the successful
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: But as for him who shall repent and believe and do right, he haply may be one of the successful
The Story, Stories, The Narrative 28:9 Verb
وَقَالَتِ ٱمۡرَأَتُ فِرۡعَوۡنَ قُرَّتُ عَیۡنࣲ لِّی وَلَكَۖ لَا تَقۡتُلُوهُ عَسَىٰۤ أَن یَنفَعَنَاۤ أَوۡ نَتَّخِذَهُۥ وَلَدࣰا وَهُمۡ لَا یَشۡعُرُونَ ۝٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And the wife of Pharaoh said, "[He will be] a comfort of the eye for me and for you. Do not kill him; perhaps he may benefit us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceived not
Abdel Haleem: and Pharaoh’s wife said, ‘Here is a joy to behold for me and for you! Do not kill him: he may be of use to us, or we may adopt him as a son.’ They did not realize what they were doing
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And the wife of Pharaoh said: (He will be) a consolation for me and for thee. Kill him not. Peradventure he may be of use to us, or we may choose him for a son. And they perceived not
The Cow 2:216 Verb
كُتِبَ عَلَیۡكُمُ ٱلۡقِتَالُ وَهُوَ كُرۡهࣱ لَّكُمۡۖ وَعَسَىٰۤ أَن تَكۡرَهُوا۟ شَیۡءࣰا وَهُوَ خَیۡرࣱ لَّكُمۡۖ وَعَسَىٰۤ أَن تُحِبُّوا۟ شَیۡءࣰا وَهُوَ شَرࣱّ لَّكُمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ یَعۡلَمُ وَأَنتُمۡ لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٢١٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Fighting has been enjoined upon you while it is hateful to you. But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not
Abdel Haleem: Fighting is ordained for you, though you dislike it. You may dislike something although it is good for you, or like something although it is bad for you: God knows and you do not.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Warfare is ordained for you, though it is hateful unto you; but it may happen that ye hate a thing which is good for you, and it may happen that ye love a thing which is bad for you. Allah knoweth, ye know not
The Cow 2:246 Verb
أَلَمۡ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلۡمَلَإِ مِنۢ بَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مُوسَىٰۤ إِذۡ قَالُوا۟ لِنَبِیࣲّ لَّهُمُ ٱبۡعَثۡ لَنَا مَلِكࣰا نُّقَـٰتِلۡ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِۖ قَالَ هَلۡ عَسَیۡتُمۡ إِن كُتِبَ عَلَیۡكُمُ ٱلۡقِتَالُ أَلَّا تُقَـٰتِلُوا۟ۖ قَالُوا۟ وَمَا لَنَاۤ أَلَّا نُقَـٰتِلَ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَقَدۡ أُخۡرِجۡنَا مِن دِیَـٰرِنَا وَأَبۡنَاۤىِٕنَاۖ فَلَمَّا كُتِبَ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡقِتَالُ تَوَلَّوۡا۟ إِلَّا قَلِیلࣰا مِّنۡهُمۡۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِیمُۢ بِٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٢٤٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Have you not considered the assembly of the Children of Israel after [the time of] Moses when they said to a prophet of theirs, "Send to us a king, and we will fight in the way of Allah "? He said, "Would you perhaps refrain from fighting if fighting was prescribed for you?" They said, "And why should we not fight in the cause of Allah when we have been driven out from our homes and from our children?" But when fighting was prescribed for them, they turned away, except for a few of them. And Allah is Knowing of the wrongdoers
Abdel Haleem: [Prophet], consider the leaders of the Children of Israel who came after Moses, when they said to one of their prophets, ‘Set up a king for us and we shall fight in God’s cause.’ He said, ‘But could it be that you would not fight, if it were ordained for you?’ They said, ‘How could we not fight in God’s cause when we and our children have been driven out of our homeland?’ Yet when they were commanded to fight, all but a few of them turned away: God has full knowledge of those who do wrong
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Bethink thee of the leaders of the Children of Israel after Moses, how they said unto a prophet whom they had: Set up for us a king and we will fight in Allah's way. He said: Would ye then refrain from fighting if fighting were prescribed for you? They said: Why should we not fight in Allah's way when we have been driven from our dwellings with our children? Yet, when fighting was prescribed for them, they turned away, all save a few of them. Allah is aware of evil-doers
Muhammad 47:22 Verb
فَهَلۡ عَسَیۡتُمۡ إِن تَوَلَّیۡتُمۡ أَن تُفۡسِدُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَتُقَطِّعُوۤا۟ أَرۡحَامَكُمۡ ۝٢٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So would you perhaps, if you turned away, cause corruption on earth and sever your [ties of] relationship
Abdel Haleem: ‘If you turn away now, could it be that you will go on to spread corruption all over the land and break your ties of kinship?’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Would ye then, if ye were given the command, work corruption in the land and sever your ties of kinship
The Private Apartments, The Inner Apartments, The Chambers 49:11 Verb
یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا یَسۡخَرۡ قَوۡمࣱ مِّن قَوۡمٍ عَسَىٰۤ أَن یَكُونُوا۟ خَیۡرࣰا مِّنۡهُمۡ وَلَا نِسَاۤءࣱ مِّن نِّسَاۤءٍ عَسَىٰۤ أَن یَكُنَّ خَیۡرࣰا مِّنۡهُنَّۖ وَلَا تَلۡمِزُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَكُمۡ وَلَا تَنَابَزُوا۟ بِٱلۡأَلۡقَـٰبِۖ بِئۡسَ الْاِسْمُ ٱلۡفُسُوقُ بَعۡدَ ٱلۡإِیمَـٰنِۚ وَمَن لَّمۡ یَتُبۡ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ ۝١١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule [other] women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames. Wretched is the name of disobedience after [one's] faith. And whoever does not repent - then it is those who are the wrongdoers
Abdel Haleem: Believers, no one group of men should jeer at another, who may after all be better than them; no one group of women should jeer at another, who may after all be better than them; do not speak ill of one another; do not use offensive nicknames for one another. How bad it is to be called a mischief-maker after accepting faith! Those who do not repent of this behaviour are evildoers
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: O ye who believe! Let not a folk deride a folk who may be better than they (are), not let women (deride) women who may be better than they are; neither defame one another, nor insult one another by nicknames. Bad is the name of lewdness after faith. And whoso turneth not in repentance, such are evil-doers
Women 4:19 Verb
یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا یَحِلُّ لَكُمۡ أَن تَرِثُوا۟ ٱلنِّسَاۤءَ كَرۡهࣰاۖ وَلَا تَعۡضُلُوهُنَّ لِتَذۡهَبُوا۟ بِبَعۡضِ مَاۤ ءَاتَیۡتُمُوهُنَّ إِلَّاۤ أَن یَأۡتِینَ بِفَـٰحِشَةࣲ مُّبَیِّنَةࣲۚ وَعَاشِرُوهُنَّ بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِۚ فَإِن كَرِهۡتُمُوهُنَّ فَعَسَىٰۤ أَن تَكۡرَهُوا۟ شَیۡءࣰا وَیَجۡعَلَ ٱللَّهُ فِیهِ خَیۡرࣰا كَثِیرࣰا ۝١٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): O you who have believed, it is not lawful for you to inherit women by compulsion. And do not make difficulties for them in order to take [back] part of what you gave them unless they commit a clear immorality. And live with them in kindness. For if you dislike them - perhaps you dislike a thing and Allah makes therein much good
Abdel Haleem: You who believe, it is not lawful for you to inherit women against their will, nor should you treat your wives harshly, hoping to take back some of the bride-gift you gave them, unless they are guilty of something clearly outrageous. Live with them in accordance with what is fair and kind: if you dislike them, it may well be that you dislike something in which God has put much good
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: O ye who believe! It is not lawful for you forcibly to inherit the women (of your deceased kinsmen), nor (that) ye should put constraint upon them that ye may take away a part of that which ye have given them, unless they be guilty of flagrant lewdness. But consort with them in kindness, for if ye hate them it may happen that ye hate a thing wherein Allah hath placed much good
Women 4:84 Verb
فَقَـٰتِلۡ فِی سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ لَا تُكَلَّفُ إِلَّا نَفۡسَكَۚ وَحَرِّضِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَۖ عَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن یَكُفَّ بَأۡسَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ۚ وَٱللَّهُ أَشَدُّ بَأۡسࣰا وَأَشَدُّ تَنكِیلࣰا ۝٨٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So fight, [O Muhammad], in the cause of Allah ; you are not held responsible except for yourself. And encourage the believers [to join you] that perhaps Allah will restrain the [military] might of those who disbelieve. And Allah is greater in might and stronger in [exemplary] punishment
Abdel Haleem: So [Prophet] fight in God’s way. You are accountable only for yourself. Urge the believers on. God may well curb the power of the disbelievers, for He is stronger in might and more terrible in punishment
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: So fight (O Muhammad) in the way of Allah Thou art not taxed (with the responsibility for anyone) except thyself - and urge on the believers. Peradventure Allah will restrain the might of those who disbelieve. Allah is stronger in might and stronger in inflicting punishment
Women 4:99 Verb
فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ عَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن یَعۡفُوَ عَنۡهُمۡۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَفُوًّا غَفُورࣰا ۝٩٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): For those it is expected that Allah will pardon them, and Allah is ever Pardoning and Forgiving
Abdel Haleem: God may well pardon these, for He is most pardoning and most forgiving. Anyone who migrates for God’s cause will find many a refuge and great plenty in the earth
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: As for such, it may be that Allah will pardon them. Allah is ever Clement, Forgiving
The Table, The Table Spread 5:52 Verb
فَتَرَى ٱلَّذِینَ فِی قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضࣱ یُسَـٰرِعُونَ فِیهِمۡ یَقُولُونَ نَخۡشَىٰۤ أَن تُصِیبَنَا دَاۤىِٕرَةࣱۚ فَعَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن یَأۡتِیَ بِٱلۡفَتۡحِ أَوۡ أَمۡرࣲ مِّنۡ عِندِهِۦ فَیُصۡبِحُوا۟ عَلَىٰ مَاۤ أَسَرُّوا۟ فِیۤ أَنفُسِهِمۡ نَـٰدِمِینَ ۝٥٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So you see those in whose hearts is disease hastening into [association with] them, saying, "We are afraid a misfortune may strike us." But perhaps Allah will bring conquest or a decision from Him, and they will become, over what they have been concealing within themselves, regretful
Abdel Haleem: yet you [Prophet] will see the perverse at heart rushing to them for protection, saying, ‘We are afraid fortune may turn against us.’ But God may well bring about a triumph or some other event of His own making: then they will rue the secrets they harboured in their hearts
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And thou seest those in whose heart is a disease race toward them, saying: We fear lest a change of fortune befall us. And it may happen that Allah will vouchsafe (unto thee) the victory, or a commandment from His presence. Then will they repent them of their secret thoughts
She That is to be Examined, Examining her, She Who is Tested 60:7 Verb
۞ عَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن یَجۡعَلَ بَیۡنَكُمۡ وَبَیۡنَ ٱلَّذِینَ عَادَیۡتُم مِّنۡهُم مَّوَدَّةࣰۚ وَٱللَّهُ قَدِیرࣱۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Perhaps Allah will put, between you and those to whom you have been enemies among them, affection. And Allah is competent, and Allah is Forgiving and Merciful
Abdel Haleem: God may still bring about affection between you and your present enemies- God is all powerful, God is most forgiving and merciful
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: It may be that Allah will ordain love between you and those of them with whom ye are at enmity. Allah is Mighty, and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful
Banning, Prohibition 66:5 Verb
عَسَىٰ رَبُّهُۥۤ إِن طَلَّقَكُنَّ أَن یُبۡدِلَهُۥۤ أَزۡوَ ٰجًا خَیۡرࣰا مِّنكُنَّ مُسۡلِمَـٰتࣲ مُّؤۡمِنَـٰتࣲ قَـٰنِتَـٰتࣲ تَـٰۤىِٕبَـٰتٍ عَـٰبِدَ ٰتࣲ سَـٰۤىِٕحَـٰتࣲ ثَیِّبَـٰتࣲ وَأَبۡكَارࣰا ۝٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Perhaps his Lord, if he divorced you [all], would substitute for him wives better than you - submitting [to Allah ], believing, devoutly obedient, repentant, worshipping, and traveling - [ones] previously married and virgins
Abdel Haleem: His Lord may well replace you with better wives if the Prophet decides to divorce any of you: wives who are devoted to God, true believers, devout, who turn to Him in repentance and worship Him, given to fasting, whether previously married or virgins
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: It may happen that his Lord, if he divorce you, will give him in your stead wives better than you, submissive (to Allah), believing, pious, penitent, devout, inclined to fasting, widows and maids
Banning, Prohibition 66:8 Verb
یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ تُوبُوۤا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوۡبَةࣰ نَّصُوحًا عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمۡ أَن یُكَفِّرَ عَنكُمۡ سَیِّءَاتِكُمۡ وَیُدۡخِلَكُمۡ جَنَّـٰتࣲ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُ یَوۡمَ لَا یُخۡزِی ٱللَّهُ ٱلنَّبِیَّ وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَعَهُۥۖ نُورُهُمۡ یَسۡعَىٰ بَیۡنَ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ وَبِأَیۡمَـٰنِهِمۡ یَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَاۤ أَتۡمِمۡ لَنَا نُورَنَا وَٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَاۤۖ إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ قَدِیرࣱ ۝٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance. Perhaps your Lord will remove from you your misdeeds and admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow [on] the Day when Allah will not disgrace the Prophet and those who believed with him. Their light will proceed before them and on their right; they will say, "Our Lord, perfect for us our light and forgive us. Indeed, You are over all things competent."
Abdel Haleem: Believers, turn to God in sincere repentance. Your Lord may well cancel your bad deeds for you and admit you into Gardens graced with flowing streams, on a Day when God will not disgrace the Prophet or those who have believed with him. With their lights streaming out ahead of them and to their right, they will say, ‘Lord, perfect our lights for us and forgive us: You have power over everything.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: O ye who believe! Turn unto Allah in sincere repentance! It may be that your Lord will remit from you your evil deeds and bring you into Gardens underneath which rivers flow, on the day when Allah will not abase the Prophet and those who believe with him. Their light will run before them and on their right hands; they will say: Our Lord! Perfect our light for us, and forgive us! Lo! Thou art Able to do all things
The Pen 68:32 Verb
عَسَىٰ رَبُّنَاۤ أَن یُبۡدِلَنَا خَیۡرࣰا مِّنۡهَاۤ إِنَّاۤ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا رَ ٰغِبُونَ ۝٣٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Perhaps our Lord will substitute for us [one] better than it. Indeed, we are toward our Lord desirous."
Abdel Haleem: but maybe our Lord will give us something better in its place: we truly turn to Him in hope.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: It may be that our Lord will give us better than this in place thereof. Lo! we beseech our Lord
The Heights, The Elevated Places 7:129 Verb
قَالُوۤا۟ أُوذِینَا مِن قَبۡلِ أَن تَأۡتِیَنَا وَمِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا جِئۡتَنَاۚ قَالَ عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمۡ أَن یُهۡلِكَ عَدُوَّكُمۡ وَیَسۡتَخۡلِفَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَیَنظُرَ كَیۡفَ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٢٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): They said, "We have been harmed before you came to us and after you have come to us." He said, "Perhaps your Lord will destroy your enemy and grant you succession in the land and see how you will do."
Abdel Haleem: and they replied, ‘We were being persecuted long before you came to us, and since then too.’ He said, ‘Your Lord may well destroy your enemy and make you successors to the land to see how you behave.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: They said: We suffered hurt before thou camest unto us, and since thou hast come unto us. He said: It may be that your Lord is going to destroy your adversary and make you viceroys in the earth, that He may see how ye behave
The Heights, The Elevated Places 7:185 Verb
أَوَ لَمۡ یَنظُرُوا۟ فِی مَلَكُوتِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ مِن شَیۡءࣲ وَأَنۡ عَسَىٰۤ أَن یَكُونَ قَدِ ٱقۡتَرَبَ أَجَلُهُمۡۖ فَبِأَیِّ حَدِیثِۭ بَعۡدَهُۥ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١٨٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Do they not look into the realm of the heavens and the earth and everything that Allah has created and [think] that perhaps their appointed time has come near? So in what statement hereafter will they believe
Abdel Haleem: Have they not contemplated the realm of the heavens and earth and all that God created, and that the end of their time might be near? What [other revelation] will they believe in if they do not believe in this
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Have they not considered the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and what things Allah hath created, and that it may be that their own term draweth nigh? In what fact after this will they believe
Repentance 9:102 Verb
وَءَاخَرُونَ ٱعۡتَرَفُوا۟ بِذُنُوبِهِمۡ خَلَطُوا۟ عَمَلࣰا صَـٰلِحࣰا وَءَاخَرَ سَیِّئًا عَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن یَتُوبَ عَلَیۡهِمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمٌ ۝١٠٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And [there are] others who have acknowledged their sins. They had mixed a righteous deed with another that was bad. Perhaps Allah will turn to them in forgiveness. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful
Abdel Haleem: And there are others who have confessed their wrongdoing, who have done some righteous deeds and some bad ones: God may well accept their repentance, for God is most forgiving and merciful
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And (there are) others who have acknowledged their faults. They mixed a righteous action with another that was bad. It may be that Allah will relent toward them. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful
Repentance 9:18 Verb
إِنَّمَا یَعۡمُرُ مَسَـٰجِدَ ٱللَّهِ مَنۡ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡیَوۡمِ ٱلۡءَاخِرِ وَأَقَامَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتَى ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَلَمۡ یَخۡشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَۖ فَعَسَىٰۤ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ أَن یَكُونُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلۡمُهۡتَدِینَ ۝١٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): The mosques of Allah are only to be maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day and establish prayer and give zakah and do not fear except Allah , for it is expected that those will be of the [rightly] guided
Abdel Haleem: The only ones who should tend God’s places of worship are those who believe in God and the Last Day, who keep up the prayer, who pay the prescribed alms, and who fear no one but God: such people may hope to be among the rightly guided
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: He only shall tend Allah's sanctuaries who believeth in Allah and the Last Day and observeth proper worship and payeth the poor-due and feareth none save Allah. For such (only) is it possible that they can be of the rightly guided
