Verse 26:197 in Context

193 نَزَلَ بِهِ ٱلرُّوحُ ٱلۡأَمِینُ ۝١٩٣ nazala bihi l-rūḥu l-amīn the Trustworthy Spirit brought it dow 194 عَلَىٰ قَلۡبِكَ لِتَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُنذِرِینَ ۝١٩٤ bilisānin ʿarabiyyin mubīni to your heart [Prophet], so that you could bring warnin 195 بِلِسَانٍ عَرَبِیࣲّ مُّبِینࣲ ۝١٩٥ Bilisanin AAarabiyyin mubeenin in a clear Arabic tongue 196 وَإِنَّهُۥ لَفِی زُبُرِ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝١٩٦ wa-innahu lafī zuburi l-awalīn This was foretold in the scriptures of earlier religions
197 أَوَ لَمۡ یَكُن لَّهُمۡ ءَایَةً أَن یَعۡلَمَهُۥ عُلَمَـٰۤؤُا۟ بَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ ۝١٩٧ awalam yakun lahum āyatan an yaʿlamahu ʿulamāu banī is'rāīl Is it not proof enough for them that the learned men of the Children of Israel have recognized it
198 وَلَوۡ نَزَّلۡنَـٰهُ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضِ ٱلۡأَعۡجَمِینَ ۝١٩٨ walaw nazzalnāhu ʿalā baʿḍi l-aʿjamīn If We had sent it down to someone who was not an Arab 199 فَقَرَأَهُۥ عَلَیۡهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ مُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١٩٩ faqara-ahu ʿalayhim mā kānū bihi mu'minīn and he had recited it to them, they still would not have believed in it 200 كَذَ ٰلِكَ سَلَكۡنَـٰهُ فِی قُلُوبِ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ ۝٢٠٠ kadhālika salaknāhu fī qulūbi l-muj'rimīn So We make it pass straight through the hearts of the guilty 201 لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِهِۦ حَتَّىٰ یَرَوُا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابَ ٱلۡأَلِیمَ ۝٢٠١ lā yu'minūna bihi ḥattā yarawū l-ʿadhāba l-alīm they will not believe in it until they see the grievous torment
