ثُمَّ أَدۡبَرَ وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرَ ۝٢٣
thumma adbara wa-is'takbar

and turned away and behaved arrogantl
then he turned his back and was proud
Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked
Then turned his back and waxed proud

Then he turned back (from the truth) and showed arrogance
Then he turned away and was arrogant

and in the end he turns his back [on Our message], and glories in his arrogance
Thereafter he withdrew, and he waxed proud
