1 The Calamity

الْقَارِعَةُ

مَا الْقَارِعَةُ

What a dreadful event, the Qaria!

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْقَارِعَةُ

Do you know what the Qaria is?

Wama adraka ma alqariAAatu

يَوْمَ يَكُونُ النَّاسُ كَالْفَرَاشِ الْمَبْثُوثِ

It is the time when the people will be like moths (propelling towards the fire).

Yawma yakoonu alnnasu kaalfarashi almabthoothi

وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ الْمَنفُوشِ

And the mountains (egos) like colorful soft wool (depleted and weak)!

Watakoonu aljibalu kaalAAihni almanfooshi

فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَازِينُهُ

So the results of whomever weigh heavy (at that time),

Faamma man thaqulat mawazeenuhu

فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ

He will be in a life well-pleasing!

Fahuwa fee AAeeshatin radiyatin

وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَازِينُهُ

And the results of whomever weigh light,

Waamma man khaffat mawazeenuhu

فَأُمُّهُ هَاوِيَةٌ

His mother (abode) will be an abyss.

Faommuhu hawiyatun

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا هِيَهْ

Do you know what that is?

Wama adraka ma hiyah

نَارٌ حَامِيَةٌ

It is a fire that scorches at maximum intensity!

Narun hamiyatun
