1 The Calamity

الْقَارِعَةُ

مَا الْقَارِعَةُ

What is the Disaster

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْقَارِعَةُ

N J Dawood 2014

Would that you knew what the Disaster is

Wama adraka ma alqariAAatu

يَوْمَ يَكُونُ النَّاسُ كَالْفَرَاشِ الْمَبْثُوثِ

N J Dawood 2014

On that day people shall become like scattered moth

Yawma yakoonu alnnasu kaalfarashi almabthoothi

وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ الْمَنفُوشِ

and the mountains like tufts of carded wool

Watakoonu aljibalu kaalAAihni almanfooshi

فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَازِينُهُ

Then he whose good deeds weigh heavy in the scale

Faamma man thaqulat mawazeenuhu

فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ

shall live in bliss

Fahuwa fee AAeeshatin radiyatin

وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَازِينُهُ

but he whose good deeds are light

Waamma man khaffat mawazeenuhu

فَأُمُّهُ هَاوِيَةٌ

the Abyss shall be his home

Faommuhu hawiyatun

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا هِيَهْ

Would that you knew what this is like

Wama adraka ma hiyah

نَارٌ حَامِيَةٌ

It is a scorching fire
