1 The Calamity

الْقَارِعَةُ

The Big Event of the violent collision of all celestial bodies;

مَا الْقَارِعَةُ

How pounding is that collision

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْقَارِعَةُ

You just do not know what is like this violent collision

Wama adraka ma alqariAAatu

يَوْمَ يَكُونُ النَّاسُ كَالْفَرَاشِ الْمَبْثُوثِ

People will be like moths scattered about

Yawma yakoonu alnnasu kaalfarashi almabthoothi

وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ الْمَنفُوشِ

And the mountains will be like flakes of wool carded out

Watakoonu aljibalu kaalAAihni almanfooshi

فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَازِينُهُ

Then he whose scales are tipped in favour of deeds of wisdom and piety

Faamma man thaqulat mawazeenuhu

فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ

He will live a life of bliss in the exalted and blissful society

Fahuwa fee AAeeshatin radiyatin

وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَازِينُهُ

But he whose good works are light in weight and below par

Waamma man khaffat mawazeenuhu

فَأُمُّهُ هَاوِيَةٌ

Will be fostered by the deep bottomless abyss

Faommuhu hawiyatun

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا هِيَهْ

And you just do not know what it is like in the abyss

Wama adraka ma hiyah

نَارٌ حَامِيَةٌ

It is the blazing infernal pit expressing fury with a crackle and a hiss
