M. Farook Malik

وَٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ ٱلۡمُبِینِ ۝٢

M. Farook Malik

By the Glorious Book

wal-kitābi l-mubīn

إِنَّا جَعَلۡنَـٰهُ قُرۡءَ ٰنًا عَرَبِیࣰّا لَّعَلَّكُمۡ تَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٣

M. Farook Malik

We have revealed this Qur’an in the Arabic language so that you may understand its meanings

innā jaʿalnāhu qur'ānan ʿarabiyyan laʿallakum taʿqilūn

وَإِنَّهُۥ فِیۤ أُمِّ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ لَدَیۡنَا لَعَلِیٌّ حَكِیمٌ ۝٤

M. Farook Malik

Surely, it is a transcript of the Mother Book in Our keeping, which is sublime and full of wisdom

wa-innahu fī ummi l-kitābi ladaynā laʿaliyyun ḥakīmu

أَفَنَضۡرِبُ عَنكُمُ ٱلذِّكۡرَ صَفۡحًا أَن كُنتُمۡ قَوۡمࣰا مُّسۡرِفِینَ ۝٥

M. Farook Malik

Should We take this Reminder away from you and ignore you because you are a nation who has transgressed all limits

afanaḍribu ʿankumu l-dhik'ra ṣafḥan an kuntum qawman mus'rifīn

وَكَمۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن نَّبِیࣲّ فِی ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٦

M. Farook Malik

And how many Prophets have We sent among the ancient peoples

wakam arsalnā min nabiyyin fī l-awalīn

وَمَا یَأۡتِیهِم مِّن نَّبِیٍّ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ یَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ۝٧

M. Farook Malik

Never did it happen that a Prophet came to his people and they did not mock at him

wamā yatīhim min nabiyyin illā kānū bihi yastahziūn

فَأَهۡلَكۡنَاۤ أَشَدَّ مِنۡهُم بَطۡشࣰا وَمَضَىٰ مَثَلُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٨

M. Farook Malik

So We destroyed them, though they were stronger in power than these people, and provided an example in the case of prior people

fa-ahlaknā ashadda min'hum baṭshan wamaḍā mathalu l-awalīn

وَلَىِٕن سَأَلۡتَهُم مَّنۡ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ لَیَقُولُنَّ خَلَقَهُنَّ ٱلۡعَزِیزُ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ۝٩

M. Farook Malik

If you ask them: "Who has created the heavens and the earth?" They will surely say: "They have been created by the All-Mighty, the All-Knowledgeable."

wala-in sa-altahum man khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa layaqūlunna khalaqahunna l-ʿazīzu l-ʿalīm

ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ مَهۡدࣰا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمۡ فِیهَا سُبُلࣰا لَّعَلَّكُمۡ تَهۡتَدُونَ ۝١٠

M. Farook Malik

The One Who has made the earth a resting place for you and traced out routes upon it so that you may find your ways

alladhī jaʿala lakumu l-arḍa mahdan wajaʿala lakum fīhā subulan laʿallakum tahtadūn

وَٱلَّذِی نَزَّلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءَۢ بِقَدَرࣲ فَأَنشَرۡنَا بِهِۦ بَلۡدَةࣰ مَّیۡتࣰاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ تُخۡرَجُونَ ۝١١

M. Farook Malik

The One Who sends down rain from the sky in due measure and thereby resurrects a dead land - that’s how you shall be brought forth (raised to life again)

wa-alladhī nazzala mina l-samāi māan biqadarin fa-ansharnā bihi baldatan maytan kadhālika tukh'rajūn

وَٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلۡأَزۡوَ ٰجَ كُلَّهَا وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡفُلۡكِ وَٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمِ مَا تَرۡكَبُونَ ۝١٢

M. Farook Malik

The One Who has created all living things in pairs and made for you the ships and cattle on which you rid

wa-alladhī khalaqa l-azwāja kullahā wajaʿala lakum mina l-ful'ki wal-anʿāmi mā tarkabūn

لِتَسۡتَوُۥا۟ عَلَىٰ ظُهُورِهِۦ ثُمَّ تَذۡكُرُوا۟ نِعۡمَةَ رَبِّكُمۡ إِذَا ٱسۡتَوَیۡتُمۡ عَلَیۡهِ وَتَقُولُوا۟ سُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِی سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَـٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُۥ مُقۡرِنِینَ ۝١٣

M. Farook Malik

so that you may firmly sit on their backs, then as you mount, recall the goodness of your Lord and say: "Glory be to Him Who has subjected these to Our use, otherwise We could not have brought them under our control

litastawū ʿalā ẓuhūrihi thumma tadhkurū niʿ'mata rabbikum idhā is'tawaytum ʿalayhi wataqūlū sub'ḥāna alladhī sakhara lanā hādhā wamā kunnā lahu muq'rinīn

وَإِنَّاۤ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا لَمُنقَلِبُونَ ۝١٤

M. Farook Malik

and to our Lord we shall all return."

wa-innā ilā rabbinā lamunqalibūn

وَجَعَلُوا۟ لَهُۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِهِۦ جُزۡءًاۚ إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ لَكَفُورࣱ مُّبِینٌ ۝١٥

M. Farook Malik

Yet in spite of recognizing all this, they have made some of His servants to be a part of Him! Surely mankind is clearly ungrateful

wajaʿalū lahu min ʿibādihi juz'an inna l-insāna lakafūrun mubīnu

2 Polytheism condemned

أَمِ ٱتَّخَذَ مِمَّا یَخۡلُقُ بَنَاتࣲ وَأَصۡفَىٰكُم بِٱلۡبَنِینَ ۝١٦

M. Farook Malik

Would Allah choose daughters (pagan Arabs believed that angels were the daughters of Allah) for Himself out of what He Himself creates and gives you sons

ami ittakhadha mimmā yakhluqu banātin wa-aṣfākum bil-banīn

وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُم بِمَا ضَرَبَ لِلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ مَثَلࣰا ظَلَّ وَجۡهُهُۥ مُسۡوَدࣰّا وَهُوَ كَظِیمٌ ۝١٧

M. Farook Malik

Yet when a new born-girl - the gender that they ascribe to the Compassionate - is announced to one of them, his face darkens and he is filled with grief

wa-idhā bushira aḥaduhum bimā ḍaraba lilrraḥmāni mathalan ẓalla wajhuhu mus'waddan wahuwa kaẓīmu

أَوَ مَن یُنَشَّؤُا۟ فِی ٱلۡحِلۡیَةِ وَهُوَ فِی ٱلۡخِصَامِ غَیۡرُ مُبِینࣲ ۝١٨

M. Farook Malik

Do they ascribe to Allah, the female gender who is brought up among trinkets and is unable to make herself clear in disputation

awaman yunasha-u fī l-ḥil'yati wahuwa fī l-khiṣāmi ghayru mubīni

وَجَعَلُوا۟ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةَ ٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ عِبَـٰدُ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ إِنَـٰثًاۚ أَشَهِدُوا۟ خَلۡقَهُمۡۚ سَتُكۡتَبُ شَهَـٰدَتُهُمۡ وَیُسۡءَلُونَ ۝١٩

M. Farook Malik

They regard the angels, who are themselves servants of the Compassionate, as female divinities. Did they witness their creation? They should know that their testimony shall be noted down and they shall be called to account for it

wajaʿalū l-malāikata alladhīna hum ʿibādu l-raḥmāni ināthan ashahidū khalqahum satuk'tabu shahādatuhum wayus'alūn

وَقَالُوا۟ لَوۡ شَاۤءَ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ مَا عَبَدۡنَـٰهُمۗ مَّا لَهُم بِذَ ٰلِكَ مِنۡ عِلۡمٍۖ إِنۡ هُمۡ إِلَّا یَخۡرُصُونَ ۝٢٠

M. Farook Malik

They say: "Had it been the will of the Compassionate, We should never have worshipped them." They have no knowledge about that; they are merely guessing

waqālū law shāa l-raḥmānu mā ʿabadnāhum mā lahum bidhālika min ʿil'min in hum illā yakhruṣūn

أَمۡ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُمۡ كِتَـٰبࣰا مِّن قَبۡلِهِۦ فَهُم بِهِۦ مُسۡتَمۡسِكُونَ ۝٢١

M. Farook Malik

Or have We given them a Book before this to which they hold authority for their angel-worshipping

am ātaynāhum kitāban min qablihi fahum bihi mus'tamsikūn

بَلۡ قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّا وَجَدۡنَاۤ ءَابَاۤءَنَا عَلَىٰۤ أُمَّةࣲ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰۤ ءَاثَـٰرِهِم مُّهۡتَدُونَ ۝٢٢

M. Farook Malik

The only argument they have is to say: "We found our forefathers practicing this faith and we are walking in their footsteps."

bal qālū innā wajadnā ābāanā ʿalā ummatin wa-innā ʿalā āthārihim muh'tadūn

وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ مَاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِكَ فِی قَرۡیَةࣲ مِّن نَّذِیرٍ إِلَّا قَالَ مُتۡرَفُوهَاۤ إِنَّا وَجَدۡنَاۤ ءَابَاۤءَنَا عَلَىٰۤ أُمَّةࣲ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰۤ ءَاثَـٰرِهِم مُّقۡتَدُونَ ۝٢٣

M. Farook Malik

Even so, whenever We sent a Warner before you to forewarn a nation, its affluent people said: "We found our forefathers practicing this faith and surely we are going to follow their footsteps."

wakadhālika mā arsalnā min qablika fī qaryatin min nadhīrin illā qāla mut'rafūhā innā wajadnā ābāanā ʿalā ummatin wa-innā ʿalā āthārihim muq'tadūn

۞ قَـٰلَ أَوَ لَوۡ جِئۡتُكُم بِأَهۡدَىٰ مِمَّا وَجَدتُّمۡ عَلَیۡهِ ءَابَاۤءَكُمۡۖ قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّا بِمَاۤ أُرۡسِلۡتُم بِهِۦ كَـٰفِرُونَ ۝٢٤

M. Farook Malik

Each Warner asked: "What if I bring you better guidance than that which your forefathers practiced?" But they replied: "Well! We reject the faith with which you have been sent."

qāla awalaw ji'tukum bi-ahdā mimmā wajadttum ʿalayhi ābāakum qālū innā bimā ur'sil'tum bihi kāfirūn

فَٱنتَقَمۡنَا مِنۡهُمۡۖ فَٱنظُرۡ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبِینَ ۝٢٥

M. Farook Malik

Consequently, We inflicted Our retribution on them; then see what was the end of those who disbelieved

fa-intaqamnā min'hum fa-unẓur kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu l-mukadhibīn

3 Allah's Choice of a Prophet

وَإِذۡ قَالَ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمُ لِأَبِیهِ وَقَوۡمِهِۦۤ إِنَّنِی بَرَاۤءࣱ مِّمَّا تَعۡبُدُونَ ۝٢٦

M. Farook Malik

Behold! Abraham said to his father and his people: "I renounce the gods you worship

wa-idh qāla ib'rāhīmu li-abīhi waqawmihi innanī barāon mimmā taʿbudūn

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِی فَطَرَنِی فَإِنَّهُۥ سَیَهۡدِینِ ۝٢٧

M. Farook Malik

except Him Who created me, for He will surely guide me."

illā alladhī faṭaranī fa-innahu sayahdīn

وَجَعَلَهَا كَلِمَةَۢ بَاقِیَةࣰ فِی عَقِبِهِۦ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝٢٨

M. Farook Malik

And he left this statement as an abiding precept among his descendants, so that they should turn to it

wajaʿalahā kalimatan bāqiyatan fī ʿaqibihi laʿallahum yarjiʿūn

بَلۡ مَتَّعۡتُ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ وَءَابَاۤءَهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ جَاۤءَهُمُ ٱلۡحَقُّ وَرَسُولࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٢٩

M. Farook Malik

But they started worshipping others, and rather than punishing I kept on providing them and their forefathers the comfort of this life, until there came to them the truth and a Messenger to expound it clearly

bal mattaʿtu hāulāi waābāahum ḥattā jāahumu l-ḥaqu warasūlun mubīnu

وَلَمَّا جَاۤءَهُمُ ٱلۡحَقُّ قَالُوا۟ هَـٰذَا سِحۡرࣱ وَإِنَّا بِهِۦ كَـٰفِرُونَ ۝٣٠

M. Farook Malik

But now when the truth has came to them, they say: "This is magic and we do not believe it."

walammā jāahumu l-ḥaqu qālū hādhā siḥ'run wa-innā bihi kāfirūn

وَقَالُوا۟ لَوۡلَا نُزِّلَ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانُ عَلَىٰ رَجُلࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡقَرۡیَتَیۡنِ عَظِیمٍ ۝٣١

M. Farook Malik

They also say: "Why is this Qur’an not revealed to a man of great importance in the two towns (Mecca and Ta'if)"

waqālū lawlā nuzzila hādhā l-qur'ānu ʿalā rajulin mina l-qaryatayni ʿaẓīmi

أَهُمۡ یَقۡسِمُونَ رَحۡمَتَ رَبِّكَۚ نَحۡنُ قَسَمۡنَا بَیۡنَهُم مَّعِیشَتَهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَاۚ وَرَفَعۡنَا بَعۡضَهُمۡ فَوۡقَ بَعۡضࣲ دَرَجَـٰتࣲ لِّیَتَّخِذَ بَعۡضُهُم بَعۡضࣰا سُخۡرِیࣰّاۗ وَرَحۡمَتُ رَبِّكَ خَیۡرࣱ مِّمَّا یَجۡمَعُونَ ۝٣٢

M. Farook Malik

Is it they who distribute the blessings of your Lord? It is We Who distribute the means of their livelihood in the life of this world, raising some in rank above others, so that one may take others into his service. But the blessing of your Lord is far greater in value than the wealth of this world which they amass

ahum yaqsimūna raḥmata rabbika naḥnu qasamnā baynahum maʿīshatahum fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā warafaʿnā baʿḍahum fawqa baʿḍin darajātin liyattakhidha baʿḍuhum baʿḍan sukh'riyyan waraḥmatu rabbika khayrun mimmā yajmaʿūn

وَلَوۡلَاۤ أَن یَكُونَ ٱلنَّاسُ أُمَّةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ لَّجَعَلۡنَا لِمَن یَكۡفُرُ بِٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ لِبُیُوتِهِمۡ سُقُفࣰا مِّن فِضَّةࣲ وَمَعَارِجَ عَلَیۡهَا یَظۡهَرُونَ ۝٣٣

M. Farook Malik

And were it not that all mankind might become one nation of unbelievers, We would have given those who disbelieve in the Compassionate (Allah), such houses whose roofs, stairways by which they go to upper chambers all made with silver

walawlā an yakūna l-nāsu ummatan wāḥidatan lajaʿalnā liman yakfuru bil-raḥmāni libuyūtihim suqufan min fiḍḍatin wamaʿārija ʿalayhā yaẓharūn

وَلِبُیُوتِهِمۡ أَبۡوَ ٰبࣰا وَسُرُرًا عَلَیۡهَا یَتَّكِءُونَ ۝٣٤

M. Farook Malik

and also the doors of their houses and couches on which they recline

walibuyūtihim abwāban wasururan ʿalayhā yattakiūn

وَزُخۡرُفࣰاۚ وَإِن كُلُّ ذَ ٰلِكَ لَمَّا مَتَـٰعُ ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَاۚ وَٱلۡءَاخِرَةُ عِندَ رَبِّكَ لِلۡمُتَّقِینَ ۝٣٥

M. Farook Malik

along with ornaments of gold - for all these are nothing but merely comforts of this worldly life. It is the life of the hereafter which your Lord has reserved for the righteous

wazukh'rufan wa-in kullu dhālika lammā matāʿu l-ḥayati l-dun'yā wal-ākhiratu ʿinda rabbika lil'muttaqīn

4 Opposition to Truth is punished

وَمَن یَعۡشُ عَن ذِكۡرِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ نُقَیِّضۡ لَهُۥ شَیۡطَـٰنࣰا فَهُوَ لَهُۥ قَرِینࣱ ۝٣٦

M. Farook Malik

He who turns away from the remembrance (Reminder) of the Compassionate (Allah), We assign a Satan for him, who becomes his intimate companion

waman yaʿshu ʿan dhik'ri l-raḥmāni nuqayyiḍ lahu shayṭānan fahuwa lahu qarīnu

وَإِنَّهُمۡ لَیَصُدُّونَهُمۡ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِیلِ وَیَحۡسَبُونَ أَنَّهُم مُّهۡتَدُونَ ۝٣٧

M. Farook Malik

- and turns such people away from the Right Path, while they think that they are guided aright

wa-innahum layaṣuddūnahum ʿani l-sabīli wayaḥsabūna annahum muh'tadūn

حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا جَاۤءَنَا قَالَ یَـٰلَیۡتَ بَیۡنِی وَبَیۡنَكَ بُعۡدَ ٱلۡمَشۡرِقَیۡنِ فَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡقَرِینُ ۝٣٨

M. Farook Malik

- Ultimately, when that person will come to Us on the Day of Judgment, he will say to his Satan companion: "I wish that I was far apart from you as the east is from the west: you turned out to be an evil companion."

ḥattā idhā jāanā qāla yālayta baynī wabaynaka buʿ'da l-mashriqayni fabi'sa l-qarīn

وَلَن یَنفَعَكُمُ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ إِذ ظَّلَمۡتُمۡ أَنَّكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡعَذَابِ مُشۡتَرِكُونَ ۝٣٩

M. Farook Malik

Then it will be said to them: "Well, you have already done wrong, realizing this fact today will avail you nothing, as you both are partners in the same punishment

walan yanfaʿakumu l-yawma idh ẓalamtum annakum fī l-ʿadhābi mush'tarikūn

أَفَأَنتَ تُسۡمِعُ ٱلصُّمَّ أَوۡ تَهۡدِی ٱلۡعُمۡیَ وَمَن كَانَ فِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝٤٠

M. Farook Malik

O Prophet, can you make the deaf hear, or give direction to the blind or those who choose to remain in manifest error

afa-anta tus'miʿu l-ṣuma aw tahdī l-ʿum'ya waman kāna fī ḍalālin mubīni

فَإِمَّا نَذۡهَبَنَّ بِكَ فَإِنَّا مِنۡهُم مُّنتَقِمُونَ ۝٤١

M. Farook Malik

We shall surely inflict retribution on them, whether We take you away from this world

fa-immā nadhhabanna bika fa-innā min'hum muntaqimūn

أَوۡ نُرِیَنَّكَ ٱلَّذِی وَعَدۡنَـٰهُمۡ فَإِنَّا عَلَیۡهِم مُّقۡتَدِرُونَ ۝٤٢

M. Farook Malik

or let you see their end, which We have promised them: surely We have full power over them

aw nuriyannaka alladhī waʿadnāhum fa-innā ʿalayhim muq'tadirūn

فَٱسۡتَمۡسِكۡ بِٱلَّذِیۤ أُوحِیَ إِلَیۡكَۖ إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ صِرَ ٰطࣲ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣲ ۝٤٣

M. Farook Malik

Therefore, hold fast to this Qur’an which is revealed to you, surely you are on the Right Way

fa-is'tamsik bi-alladhī ūḥiya ilayka innaka ʿalā ṣirāṭin mus'taqīmi

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَذِكۡرࣱ لَّكَ وَلِقَوۡمِكَۖ وَسَوۡفَ تُسۡءَلُونَ ۝٤٤

M. Farook Malik

In fact this Qur’an is a reminder for you and your people; and you shall soon be questioned about it

wa-innahu ladhik'run laka waliqawmika wasawfa tus'alūn

وَسۡءَلۡ مَنۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِكَ مِن رُّسُلِنَاۤ أَجَعَلۡنَا مِن دُونِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ءَالِهَةࣰ یُعۡبَدُونَ ۝٤٥

M. Farook Malik

Ask those of Our Messengers whom We sent before you if We ever appointed other gods to be worshipped besides the Compassionate Allah

wasal man arsalnā min qablika min rusulinā ajaʿalnā min dūni l-raḥmāni ālihatan yuʿ'badūn

5 Pharaoh's Opposition to Moses

وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مُوسَىٰ بِءَایَـٰتِنَاۤ إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَمَلَإِی۟هِۦ فَقَالَ إِنِّی رَسُولُ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٤٦

M. Farook Malik

We sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his chiefs. He said to them: "I am a Messenger of the Lord of the worlds."

walaqad arsalnā mūsā biāyātinā ilā fir'ʿawna wamala-ihi faqāla innī rasūlu rabbi l-ʿālamīn

فَلَمَّا جَاۤءَهُم بِءَایَـٰتِنَاۤ إِذَا هُم مِّنۡهَا یَضۡحَكُونَ ۝٤٧

M. Farook Malik

When he showed them Our signs, they laughed at those signs

falammā jāahum biāyātinā idhā hum min'hā yaḍḥakūn

وَمَا نُرِیهِم مِّنۡ ءَایَةٍ إِلَّا هِیَ أَكۡبَرُ مِنۡ أُخۡتِهَاۖ وَأَخَذۡنَـٰهُم بِٱلۡعَذَابِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝٤٨

M. Farook Malik

Yet We showed them sign after sign each greater than the one preceding it and We afflicted them with the scourge, so that they might return to the Right Way

wamā nurīhim min āyatin illā hiya akbaru min ukh'tihā wa-akhadhnāhum bil-ʿadhābi laʿallahum yarjiʿūn

وَقَالُوا۟ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَ ٱلسَّاحِرُ ٱدۡعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا عَهِدَ عِندَكَ إِنَّنَا لَمُهۡتَدُونَ ۝٤٩

M. Farook Malik

Each time they were seized by a scourge, they requested Moses: "O magician! Pray to your Lord for us by virtue of the covenant He has made with you; we shall surely accept your guidance."

waqālū yāayyuha l-sāḥiru ud'ʿu lanā rabbaka bimā ʿahida ʿindaka innanā lamuh'tadūn

فَلَمَّا كَشَفۡنَا عَنۡهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابَ إِذَا هُمۡ یَنكُثُونَ ۝٥٠

M. Farook Malik

But each time We lifted the scourge from them, they broke their pledge

falammā kashafnā ʿanhumu l-ʿadhāba idhā hum yankuthūn

وَنَادَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنُ فِی قَوۡمِهِۦ قَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ أَلَیۡسَ لِی مُلۡكُ مِصۡرَ وَهَـٰذِهِ ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِیۤۚ أَفَلَا تُبۡصِرُونَ ۝٥١

M. Farook Malik

One day Pharoah made a proclamation among his people: "O my people! Is not the kingdom of Egypt mine? Are not these rivers flowing beneath me? Can you not see

wanādā fir'ʿawnu fī qawmihi qāla yāqawmi alaysa lī mul'ku miṣ'ra wahādhihi l-anhāru tajrī min taḥtī afalā tub'ṣirūn

أَمۡ أَنَا۠ خَیۡرࣱ مِّنۡ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِی هُوَ مَهِینࣱ وَلَا یَكَادُ یُبِینُ ۝٥٢

M. Farook Malik

Am I not better than this despicable wretch, who can hardly express himself clearly

am anā khayrun min hādhā alladhī huwa mahīnun walā yakādu yubīn

فَلَوۡلَاۤ أُلۡقِیَ عَلَیۡهِ أَسۡوِرَةࣱ مِّن ذَهَبٍ أَوۡ جَاۤءَ مَعَهُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ مُقۡتَرِنِینَ ۝٥٣

M. Farook Malik

Why have no gold bracelets been given to him, or angels sent down to accompany him?"

falawlā ul'qiya ʿalayhi aswiratun min dhahabin aw jāa maʿahu l-malāikatu muq'tarinīn

فَٱسۡتَخَفَّ قَوۡمَهُۥ فَأَطَاعُوهُۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ قَوۡمࣰا فَـٰسِقِینَ ۝٥٤

M. Farook Malik

Thus did he incite his people and they obeyed him; surely they were a nation of transgressors

fa-is'takhaffa qawmahu fa-aṭāʿūhu innahum kānū qawman fāsiqīn

فَلَمَّاۤ ءَاسَفُونَا ٱنتَقَمۡنَا مِنۡهُمۡ فَأَغۡرَقۡنَـٰهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِینَ ۝٥٥

M. Farook Malik

At last when they provoked Us, We inflicted retribution on them and drowned them all

falammā āsafūnā intaqamnā min'hum fa-aghraqnāhum ajmaʿīn

فَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُمۡ سَلَفࣰا وَمَثَلࣰا لِّلۡءَاخِرِینَ ۝٥٦

M. Farook Malik

and made them a lesson and an example for the later generations

fajaʿalnāhum salafan wamathalan lil'ākhirīn

6 Jesus as a Prophet

۞ وَلَمَّا ضُرِبَ ٱبۡنُ مَرۡیَمَ مَثَلًا إِذَا قَوۡمُكَ مِنۡهُ یَصِدُّونَ ۝٥٧

M. Farook Malik

When Mary’s son Jesus is quoted as an example, your people raise a clamor at it

walammā ḍuriba ub'nu maryama mathalan idhā qawmuka min'hu yaṣiddūn

وَقَالُوۤا۟ ءَأَ ٰلِهَتُنَا خَیۡرٌ أَمۡ هُوَۚ مَا ضَرَبُوهُ لَكَ إِلَّا جَدَلَۢاۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ قَوۡمٌ خَصِمُونَ ۝٥٨

M. Farook Malik

and say: "Are Our gods better or is he?" They cite this to you merely to provoke you. They are but a quarrelsome people

waqālū aālihatunā khayrun am huwa mā ḍarabūhu laka illā jadalan bal hum qawmun khaṣimūn

إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا عَبۡدٌ أَنۡعَمۡنَا عَلَیۡهِ وَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُ مَثَلࣰا لِّبَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ ۝٥٩

M. Farook Malik

He (Jesus) was no more than a mortal whom We favored and made an example to the Children of Israel

in huwa illā ʿabdun anʿamnā ʿalayhi wajaʿalnāhu mathalan libanī is'rāīl

وَلَوۡ نَشَاۤءُ لَجَعَلۡنَا مِنكُم مَّلَـٰۤىِٕكَةࣰ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ یَخۡلُفُونَ ۝٦٠

M. Farook Malik

Had it been Our will, We could create angels from you to succeed you in the earth

walaw nashāu lajaʿalnā minkum malāikatan fī l-arḍi yakhlufūn

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَعِلۡمࣱ لِّلسَّاعَةِ فَلَا تَمۡتَرُنَّ بِهَا وَٱتَّبِعُونِۚ هَـٰذَا صِرَ ٰطࣱ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣱ ۝٦١

M. Farook Malik

He (Jesus) is, in fact, a sign for the coming of the Hour of Doom. Therefore, have no doubt about its coming, follow me; this is the Right Way

wa-innahu laʿil'mun lilssāʿati falā tamtarunna bihā wa-ittabiʿūni hādhā ṣirāṭun mus'taqīmu

وَلَا یَصُدَّنَّكُمُ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَكُمۡ عَدُوࣱّ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٦٢

M. Farook Malik

Let not Satan mislead you, for he is your open enemy

walā yaṣuddannakumu l-shayṭānu innahu lakum ʿaduwwun mubīnu

وَلَمَّا جَاۤءَ عِیسَىٰ بِٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتِ قَالَ قَدۡ جِئۡتُكُم بِٱلۡحِكۡمَةِ وَلِأُبَیِّنَ لَكُم بَعۡضَ ٱلَّذِی تَخۡتَلِفُونَ فِیهِۖ فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِیعُونِ ۝٦٣

M. Farook Malik

When Jesus came with clear signs, he stated: "I have brought you wisdom, and to clarify some of those things about which you have disputes: so fear Allah and obey me

walammā jāa ʿīsā bil-bayināti qāla qad ji'tukum bil-ḥik'mati wali-ubayyina lakum baʿḍa alladhī takhtalifūna fīhi fa-ittaqū l-laha wa-aṭīʿūn

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ رَبِّی وَرَبُّكُمۡ فَٱعۡبُدُوهُۚ هَـٰذَا صِرَ ٰطࣱ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣱ ۝٦٤

M. Farook Malik

Surely it is Allah Who is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. This is the Right Way."

inna l-laha huwa rabbī warabbukum fa-uʿ'budūhu hādhā ṣirāṭun mus'taqīmu

فَٱخۡتَلَفَ ٱلۡأَحۡزَابُ مِنۢ بَیۡنِهِمۡۖ فَوَیۡلࣱ لِّلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مِنۡ عَذَابِ یَوۡمٍ أَلِیمٍ ۝٦٥

M. Farook Malik

In spite of these teachings, the factions disagreed among themselves; so woe to the wrongdoers from the punishment of a painful Day

fa-ikh'talafa l-aḥzābu min baynihim fawaylun lilladhīna ẓalamū min ʿadhābi yawmin alīmi

هَلۡ یَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا ٱلسَّاعَةَ أَن تَأۡتِیَهُم بَغۡتَةࣰ وَهُمۡ لَا یَشۡعُرُونَ ۝٦٦

M. Farook Malik

Are they waiting for the Hour of Doom that it should come on them all of a sudden, without warning

hal yanẓurūna illā l-sāʿata an tatiyahum baghtatan wahum lā yashʿurūn

ٱلۡأَخِلَّاۤءُ یَوۡمَىِٕذِۭ بَعۡضُهُمۡ لِبَعۡضٍ عَدُوٌّ إِلَّا ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ ۝٦٧

M. Farook Malik

On that Day, even friends will become enemies to one another with the exception of the righteous people

al-akhilāu yawma-idhin baʿḍuhum libaʿḍin ʿaduwwun illā l-mutaqīn

7 The Two Parties

یَـٰعِبَادِ لَا خَوۡفٌ عَلَیۡكُمُ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ وَلَاۤ أَنتُمۡ تَحۡزَنُونَ ۝٦٨

M. Farook Malik

O My devotees! Today you have nothing to fear or to regret

yāʿibādi lā khawfun ʿalaykumu l-yawma walā antum taḥzanūn

ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا وَكَانُوا۟ مُسۡلِمِینَ ۝٦٩

M. Farook Malik

it will be said to those who believed in Our revelations and became Muslims

alladhīna āmanū biāyātinā wakānū mus'limīn

ٱدۡخُلُوا۟ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ أَنتُمۡ وَأَزۡوَ ٰجُكُمۡ تُحۡبَرُونَ ۝٧٠

M. Farook Malik

Enter paradise, you and your spouses; you will be made happy

ud'khulū l-janata antum wa-azwājukum tuḥ'barūn

یُطَافُ عَلَیۡهِم بِصِحَافࣲ مِّن ذَهَبࣲ وَأَكۡوَابࣲۖ وَفِیهَا مَا تَشۡتَهِیهِ ٱلۡأَنفُسُ وَتَلَذُّ ٱلۡأَعۡیُنُۖ وَأَنتُمۡ فِیهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝٧١

M. Farook Malik

There they shall be served with golden dishes and golden goblets, and they shall have everything that their souls can desire and all that their eyes can delight in - and it will be said to them: "Now you shall abide therein forever

yuṭāfu ʿalayhim biṣiḥāfin min dhahabin wa-akwābin wafīhā mā tashtahīhi l-anfusu wataladhu l-aʿyunu wa-antum fīhā khālidūn

وَتِلۡكَ ٱلۡجَنَّةُ ٱلَّتِیۤ أُورِثۡتُمُوهَا بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٧٢

M. Farook Malik

You have inherited this paradise by virtue of your good deeds

watil'ka l-janatu allatī ūrith'tumūhā bimā kuntum taʿmalūn

لَكُمۡ فِیهَا فَـٰكِهَةࣱ كَثِیرَةࣱ مِّنۡهَا تَأۡكُلُونَ ۝٧٣

M. Farook Malik

therein you shall have plenty of fruit to eat."

lakum fīhā fākihatun kathīratun min'hā takulūn

إِنَّ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ فِی عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝٧٤

M. Farook Malik

But the criminals will abide in the punishment of hell

inna l-muj'rimīna fī ʿadhābi jahannama khālidūn

لَا یُفَتَّرُ عَنۡهُمۡ وَهُمۡ فِیهِ مُبۡلِسُونَ ۝٧٥

M. Farook Malik

Their punishment will never be lightened, and they shall remain despair therein

lā yufattaru ʿanhum wahum fīhi mub'lisūn

وَمَا ظَلَمۡنَـٰهُمۡ وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٧٦

M. Farook Malik

We did not wrong them, but it is they who wronged themselves

wamā ẓalamnāhum walākin kānū humu l-ẓālimīn

وَنَادَوۡا۟ یَـٰمَـٰلِكُ لِیَقۡضِ عَلَیۡنَا رَبُّكَۖ قَالَ إِنَّكُم مَّـٰكِثُونَ ۝٧٧

M. Farook Malik

They will cry: "O Malik (the keeper of hell)! Let your Lord put and end to us." But he will answer: "Nay! You are going to live forever."

wanādaw yāmāliku liyaqḍi ʿalaynā rabbuka qāla innakum mākithūn

لَقَدۡ جِئۡنَـٰكُم بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَكُمۡ لِلۡحَقِّ كَـٰرِهُونَ ۝٧٨

M. Farook Malik

We have brought you the truth, but most of you hate the truth

laqad ji'nākum bil-ḥaqi walākinna aktharakum lil'ḥaqqi kārihūn

أَمۡ أَبۡرَمُوۤا۟ أَمۡرࣰا فَإِنَّا مُبۡرِمُونَ ۝٧٩

M. Farook Malik

If they have devised a plan to ruin you (O Muhammad), then surely We too shall devise a plan to ruin them

am abramū amran fa-innā mub'rimūn

أَمۡ یَحۡسَبُونَ أَنَّا لَا نَسۡمَعُ سِرَّهُمۡ وَنَجۡوَىٰهُمۚ بَلَىٰ وَرُسُلُنَا لَدَیۡهِمۡ یَكۡتُبُونَ ۝٨٠

M. Farook Malik

Do they think that We cannot hear their secret talks and their private conversation? Of course We do, and Our messengers (angels) who are assigned to them, record it all

am yaḥsabūna annā lā nasmaʿu sirrahum wanajwāhum balā warusulunā ladayhim yaktubūn

قُلۡ إِن كَانَ لِلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ وَلَدࣱ فَأَنَا۠ أَوَّلُ ٱلۡعَـٰبِدِینَ ۝٨١

M. Farook Malik

O Prophet tell the Christians: "If the Compassionate (Allah) had a son, I would be the first to worship him."

qul in kāna lilrraḥmāni waladun fa-anā awwalu l-ʿābidīn

سُبۡحَـٰنَ رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ عَمَّا یَصِفُونَ ۝٨٢

M. Farook Malik

Glory be to the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Lord of the Throne, He is above what they ascribe to Him

sub'ḥāna rabbi l-samāwāti wal-arḍi rabbi l-ʿarshi ʿammā yaṣifūn

فَذَرۡهُمۡ یَخُوضُوا۟ وَیَلۡعَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ یُلَـٰقُوا۟ یَوۡمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِی یُوعَدُونَ ۝٨٣

M. Farook Malik

So let them blunder and play until they face their Day, which has been promised to them

fadharhum yakhūḍū wayalʿabū ḥattā yulāqū yawmahumu alladhī yūʿadūn

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی فِی ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ إِلَـٰهࣱ وَفِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ إِلَـٰهࣱۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡحَكِیمُ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ۝٨٤

M. Farook Malik

It is He (Allah) Who is God in the heavens and God on earth; He is the All-Wise, the All-Knowledgeable

wahuwa alladhī fī l-samāi ilāhun wafī l-arḍi ilāhun wahuwa l-ḥakīmu l-ʿalīm

وَتَبَارَكَ ٱلَّذِی لَهُۥ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَیۡنَهُمَا وَعِندَهُۥ عِلۡمُ ٱلسَّاعَةِ وَإِلَیۡهِ تُرۡجَعُونَ ۝٨٥

M. Farook Malik

Blessed is He to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them! He Alone has the knowledge of the Hour of Doom, and to Him you shall all be brought back

watabāraka alladhī lahu mul'ku l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wamā baynahumā waʿindahu ʿil'mu l-sāʿati wa-ilayhi tur'jaʿūn

وَلَا یَمۡلِكُ ٱلَّذِینَ یَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِهِ ٱلشَّفَـٰعَةَ إِلَّا مَن شَهِدَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَهُمۡ یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٨٦

M. Farook Malik

And those to whom they invoke besides Him, have no power to intercede for them except those who testify to the truth by virtue of knowledge

walā yamliku alladhīna yadʿūna min dūnihi l-shafāʿata illā man shahida bil-ḥaqi wahum yaʿlamūn

وَلَىِٕن سَأَلۡتَهُم مَّنۡ خَلَقَهُمۡ لَیَقُولُنَّ ٱللَّهُۖ فَأَنَّىٰ یُؤۡفَكُونَ ۝٨٧

M. Farook Malik

If you ask them Who created them, they will certainly say: "Allah." How then are they deluded away from the truth

wala-in sa-altahum man khalaqahum layaqūlunna l-lahu fa-annā yu'fakūn

وَقِیلِهِۦ یَـٰرَبِّ إِنَّ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ قَوۡمࣱ لَّا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٨٨

M. Farook Malik

Allah has heard the Prophet’s cry: "O Lord! Surely these are a people who would not believe."

waqīlihi yārabbi inna hāulāi qawmun lā yu'minūn

فَٱصۡفَحۡ عَنۡهُمۡ وَقُلۡ سَلَـٰمࣱۚ فَسَوۡفَ یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٨٩

M. Farook Malik

Therefore, O Prophet! Bear with them and wish them peace. They shall soon come to know the truth

fa-iṣ'faḥ ʿanhum waqul salāmun fasawfa yaʿlamūn
