1 Certainty of the Punishment
70:1 ›
سَأَلَ سَاۤىِٕلُۢ بِعَذَابࣲ وَاقِعࣲ ۝١
Mir Aneesuddin
A questioner asked about the punishment to fall.
sa-ala sāilun biʿadhābin wāqiʿi
70:2 ›
لِّلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ لَیۡسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعࣱ ۝٢
Mir Aneesuddin
For the infidels, there will be no defender for it.
lil'kāfirīna laysa lahu dāfiʿu
70:3 ›
مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِی ٱلۡمَعَارِجِ ۝٣
Mir Aneesuddin
(It will be) from Allah, Possessor of the ways of ascent.
mina l-lahi dhī l-maʿārij
70:4 ›
تَعۡرُجُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَیۡهِ فِی یَوۡمࣲ كَانَ مِقۡدَارُهُۥ خَمۡسِینَ أَلۡفَ سَنَةࣲ ۝٤
Mir Aneesuddin
The angels and the spirit ascend to Him, in a day (period), the measure of which is fifty thousand years.
taʿruju l-malāikatu wal-rūḥu ilayhi fī yawmin kāna miq'dāruhu khamsīna alfa sanati
70:5 ›
فَٱصۡبِرۡ صَبۡرࣰا جَمِیلًا ۝٥
Mir Aneesuddin
So be patient with the patience that is good.
fa-iṣ'bir ṣabran jamīla
70:6 ›
إِنَّهُمۡ یَرَوۡنَهُۥ بَعِیدࣰا ۝٦
Mir Aneesuddin
They certainly see it far,
innahum yarawnahu baʿīda
70:7 ›
وَنَرَىٰهُ قَرِیبࣰا ۝٧
Mir Aneesuddin
while We see it near.
wanarāhu qarība
70:8 ›
یَوۡمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَاۤءُ كَٱلۡمُهۡلِ ۝٨
Mir Aneesuddin
The day when the sky will become like molten brass
yawma takūnu l-samāu kal-muh'l
70:9 ›
وَتَكُونُ ٱلۡجِبَالُ كَٱلۡعِهۡنِ ۝٩
Mir Aneesuddin
and the mountains will be like coloured wool
watakūnu l-jibālu kal-ʿih'n
70:10 ›
وَلَا یَسۡءَلُ حَمِیمٌ حَمِیمࣰا ۝١٠
Mir Aneesuddin
and (even) an intimate friend will not inquire from another intimate friend
walā yasalu ḥamīmun ḥamīma
70:11 ›
یُبَصَّرُونَهُمۡۚ یَوَدُّ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُ لَوۡ یَفۡتَدِی مِنۡ عَذَابِ یَوۡمِىِٕذِۭ بِبَنِیهِ ۝١١
Mir Aneesuddin
(though) they will be made to see each other. The criminal would love to ransom himself from the punishment of that day by (sacrificing even) his sons,
yubaṣṣarūnahum yawaddu l-muj'rimu law yaftadī min ʿadhābi yawmi-idhin bibanīh
70:12 ›
وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَأَخِیهِ ۝١٢
Mir Aneesuddin
and his wife and his brother
waṣāḥibatihi wa-akhīh
70:13 ›
وَفَصِیلَتِهِ ٱلَّتِی تُءۡوِیهِ ۝١٣
Mir Aneesuddin
and his family which gave him shelter,
wafaṣīlatihi allatī tu'wīh
70:14 ›
وَمَن فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِیعࣰا ثُمَّ یُنجِیهِ ۝١٤
Mir Aneesuddin
and whosoever is in the earth, all, (and) then save himself.
waman fī l-arḍi jamīʿan thumma yunjīh
70:15 ›
كَلَّاۤۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ ۝١٥
Mir Aneesuddin
By no means ! it is certainly a flaming fire
kallā innahā laẓ
70:16 ›
نَزَّاعَةࣰ لِّلشَّوَىٰ ۝١٦
Mir Aneesuddin
taking off the skin.
nazzāʿatan lilshaw
70:17 ›
تَدۡعُوا۟ مَنۡ أَدۡبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ ۝١٧
Mir Aneesuddin
It will invite him who turned back (from the truth) and went away
tadʿū man adbara watawall
70:18 ›
وَجَمَعَ فَأَوۡعَىٰۤ ۝١٨
Mir Aneesuddin
and amassed (wealth) then withheld (it).
wajamaʿa fa-awʿ
70:19 ›
۞ إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا ۝١٩
Mir Aneesuddin
Man is certainly hasty (by) character;
inna l-insāna khuliqa halūʿa
70:20 ›
إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعࣰا ۝٢٠
Mir Aneesuddin
when evil afflicts him he is impatient
idhā massahu l-sharu jazūʿa
70:21 ›
وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلۡخَیۡرُ مَنُوعًا ۝٢١
Mir Aneesuddin
and when good (even) touches him (he) is niggardly
wa-idhā massahu l-khayru manūʿa
70:22 ›
إِلَّا ٱلۡمُصَلِّینَ ۝٢٢
Mir Aneesuddin
except the worshippers (those who offer salat)
illā l-muṣalīn
70:23 ›
ٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمۡ دَاۤىِٕمُونَ ۝٢٣
Mir Aneesuddin
who are constant at their worship (salat)
alladhīna hum ʿalā ṣalātihim dāimūn
70:24 ›
وَٱلَّذِینَ فِیۤ أَمۡوَ ٰلِهِمۡ حَقࣱّ مَّعۡلُومࣱ ۝٢٤
Mir Aneesuddin
and in whose wealth there is a known (portion as the) right
wa-alladhīna fī amwālihim ḥaqqun maʿlūmu
70:25 ›
لِّلسَّاۤىِٕلِ وَٱلۡمَحۡرُومِ ۝٢٥
Mir Aneesuddin
of one who asks and of one who is deprived (yet does not ask);
lilssāili wal-maḥrūm
70:26 ›
وَٱلَّذِینَ یُصَدِّقُونَ بِیَوۡمِ ٱلدِّینِ ۝٢٦
Mir Aneesuddin
and those who accept the truth of the day of judgment
wa-alladhīna yuṣaddiqūna biyawmi l-dīn
70:27 ›
وَٱلَّذِینَ هُم مِّنۡ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشۡفِقُونَ ۝٢٧
Mir Aneesuddin
and those who are fearful of the punishment of their Fosterer,
wa-alladhīna hum min ʿadhābi rabbihim mush'fiqūn
70:28 ›
إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمۡ غَیۡرُ مَأۡمُونࣲ ۝٢٨
Mir Aneesuddin
the punishment of their Fosterer is certainly (something from which) one should not feel secure;
inna ʿadhāba rabbihim ghayru mamūni
70:29 ›
وَٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ لِفُرُوجِهِمۡ حَـٰفِظُونَ ۝٢٩
Mir Aneesuddin
and those who guard their private parts
wa-alladhīna hum lifurūjihim ḥāfiẓūn
70:30 ›
إِلَّا عَلَىٰۤ أَزۡوَ ٰجِهِمۡ أَوۡ مَا مَلَكَتۡ أَیۡمَـٰنُهُمۡ فَإِنَّهُمۡ غَیۡرُ مَلُومِینَ ۝٣٠
Mir Aneesuddin
except from their wives or whom their right hands possess, so in their case they are not to be blamed,
illā ʿalā azwājihim aw mā malakat aymānuhum fa-innahum ghayru malūmīn
70:31 ›
فَمَنِ ٱبۡتَغَىٰ وَرَاۤءَ ذَ ٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡعَادُونَ ۝٣١
Mir Aneesuddin
but whoever seeks (something) beyond that, then those are the persons who are transgressors;
famani ib'taghā warāa dhālika fa-ulāika humu l-ʿādūn
70:32 ›
وَٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمۡ وَعَهۡدِهِمۡ رَ ٰعُونَ ۝٣٢
Mir Aneesuddin
and those who are faithful to their trusts and their agreements;
wa-alladhīna hum li-amānātihim waʿahdihim rāʿūn
70:33 ›
وَٱلَّذِینَ هُم بِشَهَـٰدَ ٰتِهِمۡ قَاۤىِٕمُونَ ۝٣٣
Mir Aneesuddin
and those who stand firm on their testimonies;
wa-alladhīna hum bishahādātihim qāimūn
70:34 ›
وَٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمۡ یُحَافِظُونَ ۝٣٤
Mir Aneesuddin
and those who are custodians of their worship (salat).
wa-alladhīna hum ʿalā ṣalātihim yuḥāfiẓūn
70:35 ›
أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ فِی جَنَّـٰتࣲ مُّكۡرَمُونَ ۝٣٥
Mir Aneesuddin
They will be honoured in gardens.
ulāika fī jannātin muk'ramūn
2 A New Nation to be raised
70:36 ›
فَمَالِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ قِبَلَكَ مُهۡطِعِینَ ۝٣٦
Mir Aneesuddin
So what is the matter with those who do not believe that they rush towards you
famāli alladhīna kafarū qibalaka muh'ṭiʿīn
70:37 ›
عَنِ ٱلۡیَمِینِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ عِزِینَ ۝٣٧
Mir Aneesuddin
from your right and from your left, in groups?
ayaṭmaʿu kullu im'ri-in min'hum an yud'khala jannata naʿīmi
70:38 ›
أَیَطۡمَعُ كُلُّ ٱمۡرِىࣲٕ مِّنۡهُمۡ أَن یُدۡخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِیمࣲ ۝٣٨
Mir Aneesuddin
Does every man among them hope that he will be made to enter the garden of bliss?
AyatmaAAu kullu imri-in minhum an yudkhala jannata naAAeemin
70:39 ›
كَلَّاۤۖ إِنَّا خَلَقۡنَـٰهُم مِّمَّا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣٩
Mir Aneesuddin
By no means ! they know (the thing) from which We created them.
kallā innā khalaqnāhum mimmā yaʿlamūn
70:40 ›
فَلَاۤ أُقۡسِمُ بِرَبِّ ٱلۡمَشَـٰرِقِ وَٱلۡمَغَـٰرِبِ إِنَّا لَقَـٰدِرُونَ ۝٤٠
Mir Aneesuddin
So I do swear by the Fosterer of the rising places/times and setting places/times (of the sun), that We are certainly able
falā uq'simu birabbi l-mashāriqi wal-maghāribi innā laqādirūn
70:41 ›
عَلَىٰۤ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَیۡرࣰا مِّنۡهُمۡ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَسۡبُوقِینَ ۝٤١
Mir Aneesuddin
to replace (them by others) better than them and We are not to be overcome.
fadharhum yakhūḍū wayalʿabū ḥattā yulāqū yawmahumu alladhī yūʿadūn
70:42 ›
فَذَرۡهُمۡ یَخُوضُوا۟ وَیَلۡعَبُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ یُلَـٰقُوا۟ یَوۡمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِی یُوعَدُونَ ۝٤٢
Mir Aneesuddin
So leave them involved in idle talk and play, till they meet their day which they are promised.
Fatharhum yakhoodoo wayalAAaboo hatta yulaqoo yawmahumu allathee yooAAadoona
70:43 ›
یَوۡمَ یَخۡرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡأَجۡدَاثِ سِرَاعࣰا كَأَنَّهُمۡ إِلَىٰ نُصُبࣲ یُوفِضُونَ ۝٤٣
Mir Aneesuddin
The day they will come out from their graves in haste, as if rushing towards a goal,
yawma yakhrujūna mina l-ajdāthi sirāʿan ka-annahum ilā nuṣubin yūfiḍūn
70:44 ›
خَـٰشِعَةً أَبۡصَـٰرُهُمۡ تَرۡهَقُهُمۡ ذِلَّةࣱۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلۡیَوۡمُ ٱلَّذِی كَانُوا۟ یُوعَدُونَ ۝٤٤
Mir Aneesuddin
(with) their eyes humbled, disgrace covering them, that is the day which they were promised.
khāshiʿatan abṣāruhum tarhaquhum dhillatun dhālika l-yawmu alladhī kānū yūʿadūn
