78:1

عَمَّ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ

Amatul Rahman Omar

What is that these (disbelievers) are asking one another about

AAamma yatasaaloona

78:2

عَنِ النَّبَإِ الْعَظِيمِ

Amatul Rahman Omar

(Is it) about the greatly important and very useful announcement leading to knowledge

AAani alnnaba-i alAAatheemi

78:3

الَّذِي هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ

Amatul Rahman Omar

About which they differ (from the Muslims and among themselves)

Allathee hum feehi mukhtalifoona

78:4

كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ

Amatul Rahman Omar

It is not as they assume. They shall surely know (the truth thereof)

Kalla sayaAAlamoona

78:5

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ

Amatul Rahman Omar

(We say it) again, the real thing is not as they believe. They shall surely come to know (the truth thereof)

Thumma kalla sayaAAlamoona

78:6

أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْأَرْضَ مِهَادًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

Have We not made the earth as a bed

Alam najAAali al-arda mihadan

78:7

وَالْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

And the mountains as (a series of) pegs

Waaljibala awtadan

78:8

وَخَلَقْنَاكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

And We have created you in pairs (males and females)

Wakhalaqnakum azwajan

78:9

وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

And We have made your sleep a source of rest

WajaAAalna nawmakum subatan

78:10

وَجَعَلْنَا اللَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

And We have made the night as a covering

WajaAAalna allayla libasan

78:11

وَجَعَلْنَا النَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

And We have made the day for the (various) pursuits of life

WajaAAalna alnnahara maAAashan

78:12

وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

And We have built above you seven strong (heavenly bodies of the solar system)

Wabanayna fawqakum sabAAan shidadan

78:13

وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

And We have made (therein) the sun providing immense light and heat from a long distance

WajaAAalna sirajan wahhajan

78:14

وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ الْمُعْصِرَاتِ مَاءً ثَجَّاجًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

And We pour down from the dripping clouds water in torrent

Waanzalna mina almuAAsirati maan thajjajan

78:15

لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

That We may bring forth therewith (all kinds of) grain and vegetation

Linukhrija bihi habban wanabatan

78:16

وَجَنَّاتٍ أَلْفَافًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

And (grow with it) gardens thick and luxuriant

Wajannatin alfafan

78:17

إِنَّ يَوْمَ الْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَاتًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

Surely, the Day of Judgment is an appointed time

Inna yawma alfasli kana meeqatan

78:18

يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِي الصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

The day when the trumpet will be blown, and you will come in large troopes

Yawma yunfakhu fee alssoori fata/toona afwajan

78:19

وَفُتِحَتِ السَّمَاءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَابًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

And the heaven shall be flung open and it shall become (all) doors

Wafutihati alssamao fakanat abwaban

78:20

وَسُيِّرَتِ الْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

And the mountains shall be wiped out and shall become (as if reduced to) plains of sand

Wasuyyirati aljibalu fakanat saraban

78:21

إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

Surely, only Gehenna shall be in wait (for those who deny the truth)

Inna jahannama kanat mirsadan

78:22

لِّلطَّاغِينَ مَآبًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

A (nursing) home for the rebellious

Lilttagheena maaban

78:23

لَّابِثِينَ فِيهَا أَحْقَابًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

There they shall be staying for ages (till all their maladies are completely treated)

Labitheena feeha ahqaban

78:24

لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

There they shall find no (comfort of) coolness, nor drink

La yathooqoona feeha bardan wala sharaban

78:25

إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

All that they shall have will be boiling water or stinking fluid as a recompense

Illa hameeman waghassaqan

78:26

جَزَاءً وِفَاقًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

A befitting recompense (for the evils done by them)

Jazaan wifaqan

78:27

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

They did not fear any reckoning at all

Innahum kanoo la yarjoona hisaban

78:28

وَكَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا كِذَّابًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

And they had belied Our Messages outright

Wakaththaboo bi-ayatina kiththaban

78:29

وَكُلَّ شَيْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَاهُ كِتَابًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

And everything (of their deeds) We have fully recorded in a book (of deeds)

Wakulla shay-in ahsaynahu kitaban

78:30

فَذُوقُوا فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

(It shall be said to them when they are about to be punished,) `Suffer therefore (the consequences of your evil deeds), We will do no more than increase your torment

Fathooqoo falan nazeedakum illa AAathaban

78:31

إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

As for those who guarded against evil there awaits them a triumph

Inna lilmuttaqeena mafazan

78:32

حَدَائِقَ وَأَعْنَابًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

Orchards and vineyards

Hada-iqa waaAAnaban

78:33

وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

And (blooming) young maidens suiting their age, and also matching in all other respects

And overflowing cups of pure and clean drink

Waka/san dihaqan

78:35

لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّابًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

Therein they will hear no vain discourse, no (topics based on) falsehood

La yasmaAAoona feeha laghwan wala kiththaban

78:36

جَزَاءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَاءً حِسَابًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

(It will be said to each, `All this is) bestowed (on you) by your Lord, (both) by way of gift, (and) by reckoning.

Jazaan min rabbika AAataan hisaban

78:37

رَّبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا الرَّحْمَٰنِ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

The Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that lies between them, the Most Gracious (God), Whom they dare not address

Rabbi alssamawati waal-ardi wama baynahuma alrrahmani la yamlikoona minhu khitaban

78:38

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الرُّوحُ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ صَفًّا لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ الرَّحْمَٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

(All this will be) on the Day (of Resurrection) when the Perfect Spirit and the angels will stand in rows, none shall speak except he (- Muhammad) to whom the Most Gracious (God) will grant permission and who will speak (only) what is right

Yawma yaqoomu alrroohu waalmala-ikatu saffan la yatakallamoona illa man athina lahu alrrahmanu waqala sawaban

78:39

ذَٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الْحَقُّ فَمَن شَاءَ اتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِ مَآبًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

That day is bound to come, so let him, who will, seek recourse to his Lord

Thalika alyawmu alhaqqu faman shaa ittakhatha ila rabbihi maaban

78:40

إِنَّا أَنذَرْنَاكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ الْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ الْكَافِرُ يَا لَيْتَنِي كُنتُ تُرَابًا

Amatul Rahman Omar

Verily, We have warned you of a punishment which is close at hand, a day when a person shall see what (good or evil deeds) he has sent on before (for the next life), and the disbeliever will say, `Would that I were mere dust.

Inna antharnakum AAathaban qareeban yawma yanthuru almaro ma qaddamat yadahu wayaqoolu alkafiru ya laytanee kuntu turaban
