1 The Day of Decision

عَمَّ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ

Of what do they ask one another?

AAamma yatasaaloona

عَنِ النَّبَإِ الْعَظِيمِ

Of the great information,

AAani alnnaba-i alAAatheemi

الَّذِي هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ

The one concerning which they disagree.

Allathee hum feehi mukhtalifoona

كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ

Not so, soon they will know.

Kalla sayaAAlamoona

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ

Again, not so, soon they will know.

Thumma kalla sayaAAlamoona

أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْأَرْضَ مِهَادًا

Did We not make the earth a bed,

Alam najAAali al-arda mihadan

وَالْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا

And the mountains stakes,

Waaljibala awtadan

وَخَلَقْنَاكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا

And We created you in pairs,

Wakhalaqnakum azwajan

وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا

And We made your sleep a rest,

WajaAAalna nawmakum subatan

وَجَعَلْنَا اللَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا

And We made the night a garment,

WajaAAalna allayla libasan

وَجَعَلْنَا النَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا

And We made the day for livelihood,

WajaAAalna alnnahara maAAashan

وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا

And We built above you seven strong,

Wabanayna fawqakum sabAAan shidadan

وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا

And We made a burning lamp,

WajaAAalna sirajan wahhajan

وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ الْمُعْصِرَاتِ مَاءً ثَجَّاجًا

And We sent down from the clouds water pouring forth,

Waanzalna mina almuAAsirati maan thajjajan

لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا

That We may bring forth with it grain and plants,

Linukhrija bihi habban wanabatan

وَجَنَّاتٍ أَلْفَافًا

And luxuriant gardens?

Wajannatin alfafan

إِنَّ يَوْمَ الْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَاتًا

Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time.

Inna yawma alfasli kana meeqatan

يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِي الصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا

On the day the horn will be blown in, and you come in troops,

Yawma yunfakhu fee alssoori fata/toona afwajan

وَفُتِحَتِ السَّمَاءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَابًا

And the sky is opened and becomes gates,

Wafutihati alssamao fakanat abwaban

وَسُيِّرَتِ الْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا

And the mountains are made to pass away and become a mirage.

Wasuyyirati aljibalu fakanat saraban

إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا

Indeed, Hell is an ambush,

Inna jahannama kanat mirsadan

لِّلطَّاغِينَ مَآبًا

A place of return for the immoderate,

Lilttagheena maaban

لَّابِثِينَ فِيهَا أَحْقَابًا

To tarry in it for a long time.

Labitheena feeha ahqaban

لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا

They will not taste in it coolness nor drink,

La yathooqoona feeha bardan wala sharaban

إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا

Except hot water and pus;

Illa hameeman waghassaqan

جَزَاءً وِفَاقًا

A fit recompense.

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا

Indeed, they were not hoping for a reckoning,

Innahum kanoo la yarjoona hisaban

وَكَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا كِذَّابًا

And they said Our signs were lies, denying.

Wakaththaboo bi-ayatina kiththaban

وَكُلَّ شَيْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَاهُ كِتَابًا

And everything We have numbered it in a Book.

Wakulla shay-in ahsaynahu kitaban

2 The Day of Decision

فَذُوقُوا فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا

So taste, and We will not increase you except in punishment.

Fathooqoo falan nazeedakum illa AAathaban

إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا

Indeed, for those who fear is a place of security,

Inna lilmuttaqeena mafazan

حَدَائِقَ وَأَعْنَابًا

Gardens and grapevines,

Hada-iqa waaAAnaban

وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا

And girls with swelling breasts, equal in age,

WakawaAAiba atraban

وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًا

And a brimming cup of wine;

Waka/san dihaqan

لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّابًا

They will not hear in it idle speech nor denying;

La yasmaAAoona feeha laghwan wala kiththaban

جَزَاءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَاءً حِسَابًا

A recompense from your Lord, a sufficing gift.

Jazaan min rabbika AAataan hisaban

رَّبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا الرَّحْمَٰنِ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا

Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between both of them, the Merciful, they do not have power to discourse of Him.

Rabbi alssamawati waal-ardi wama baynahuma alrrahmani la yamlikoona minhu khitaban

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الرُّوحُ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ صَفًّا لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ الرَّحْمَٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا

On the day the spirit and the angels will stand in ranks, they will not speak except him who the Merciful permitted, and he said what is right.

Yawma yaqoomu alrroohu waalmala-ikatu saffan la yatakallamoona illa man athina lahu alrrahmanu waqala sawaban

ذَٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الْحَقُّ فَمَن شَاءَ اتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِ مَآبًا

That is the True Day, so he who willed took to his Lord a place of return.

Thalika alyawmu alhaqqu faman shaa ittakhatha ila rabbihi maaban

إِنَّا أَنذَرْنَاكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ الْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ الْكَافِرُ يَا لَيْتَنِي كُنتُ تُرَابًا

Indeed We, We warned you of a near punishment on the day the man will look at what his two hands sent forward, and the disbeliever will say, 'O would that I were dust.'

Inna antharnakum AAathaban qareeban yawma yanthuru almaro ma qaddamat yadahu wayaqoolu alkafiru ya laytanee kuntu turaban
