1 The Great Commotion
79:1 ›
وَالنَّازِعَاتِ غَرْقًا
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"By those who pull out harshly [e.g ?Azra??l, the Angel of Death],"
WaalnnaziAAati gharqan
79:2 ›
وَالنَّاشِطَاتِ نَشْطًا
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"by those who draw out gently,"
Waalnnashitati nashtan
79:3 ›
وَالسَّابِحَاتِ سَبْحًا
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"by those who float along,"
Waalssabihati sabhan
79:4 ›
فَالسَّابِقَاتِ سَبْقًا
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"by those who hurry forward,"
Faalssabiqati sabqan
79:5 ›
فَالْمُدَبِّرَاتِ أَمْرًا
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
and by those who manage the affairs (of their Lord)
Faalmudabbirati amran
79:6 ›
يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الرَّاجِفَةُ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"On the Day when the (first) earthquake (violently) shakes everything [i.e. the blast of the trumpet sounded by the Angel Isr?f?l on the Last Day which will cause every living being to die],"
Yawma tarjufu alrrajifatu
79:7 ›
تَتْبَعُهَا الرَّادِفَةُ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"and the aftershock follows it [the second blowing of the trumpet which will wake all the dead],"
TatbaAAuha alrradifatu
79:8 ›
قُلُوبٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاجِفَةٌ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"on that Day hearts will be pounding,"
Quloobun yawma-ithin wajifatun
79:9 ›
أَبْصَارُهَا خَاشِعَةٌ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
and their eyes will be cast down
Absaruha khashiAAatun
79:10 ›
يَقُولُونَ أَإِنَّا لَمَرْدُودُونَ فِي الْحَافِرَةِ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"(Now) they say, 'Shall we really be returned to the way we were before,"
Yaqooloona a-inna lamardoodoona fee alhafirati
79:11 ›
أَإِذَا كُنَّا عِظَامًا نَّخِرَةً
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
even after we are crumbled bones
A-itha kunna AAithaman nakhiratan
79:12 ›
قَالُوا تِلْكَ إِذًا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٌ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"They say, 'Then that would be a return with loss.'"
Qaloo tilka ithan karratun khasiratun
79:13 ›
فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجْرَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"But it will only be a single Shout [of an angel, or the blast of the trumpet at the beginning of the Resurrection,]"
Fa-innama hiya zajratun wahidatun
79:14 ›
فَإِذَا هُم بِالسَّاهِرَةِ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
and they shall awaken to be gathered on the open plain
Fa-itha hum bialssahirati
79:15 ›
هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
Has the story of M?s? reached you
Hal ataka hadeethu moosa
79:16 ›
إِذْ نَادَاهُ رَبُّهُ بِالْوَادِ الْمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"When his Lord called him in the holy valley of ?uw?, (saying)"
Ith nadahu rabbuhu bialwadi almuqaddasi tuwan
79:17 ›
اذْهَبْ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّهُ طَغَىٰ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"'Go to Pharaoh, for he has truly crossed his limit."
Ithhab ila firAAawna innahu tagha
79:18 ›
فَقُلْ هَل لَّكَ إِلَىٰ أَن تَزَكَّىٰ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"And say to him, ""Would you like to be purified?"""
Faqul hal laka ila an tazakka
79:19 ›
وَأَهْدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخْشَىٰ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"And shall I guide you to your Lord, so that you will be in awe of Him?"
Waahdiyaka ila rabbika fatakhsha
79:20 ›
فَأَرَاهُ الْآيَةَ الْكُبْرَىٰ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
And he (M?s?) showed him the great sign
Faarahu al-ayata alkubra
79:21 ›
فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"But he (Pharaoh) rejected it and disobeyed,"
Fakaththaba waAAasa
79:22 ›
ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَىٰ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"and he turned his back, hurrying (to do mischief),"
Thumma adbara yasAAa
79:23 ›
فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
then he gathered (his people) and proclaimed
Fahashara fanada
79:24 ›
فَقَالَ أَنَا رَبُّكُمُ الْأَعْلَىٰ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"'I, (Pharaoh), am your Lord, the Most High!'"
Faqala ana rabbukumu al-aAAla
79:25 ›
فَأَخَذَهُ اللَّهُ نَكَالَ الْآخِرَةِ وَالْأُولَىٰ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
So Allah seized him with the punishment of the Next Life as well as this one
Faakhathahu Allahu nakala al-akhirati waal-oola</u
79:26 ›
إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِّمَن يَخْشَىٰ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
Surely this is a lesson for one who fears (Allah)
Inna fee thalika laAAibratan liman yakhsha
2 The Great Calamity
79:27 ›
أَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمِ السَّمَاءُ بَنَاهَا
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"What, are you harder to create than the heaven that Allah made?"
Aantum ashaddu khalqan ami alssamao banaha
79:28 ›
رَفَعَ سَمْكَهَا فَسَوَّاهَا
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"He raised the height of it, and put it in perfect order,"
RafaAAa samkaha fasawwaha
79:29 ›
وَأَغْطَشَ لَيْلَهَا وَأَخْرَجَ ضُحَاهَا
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"and darkened its night, and brought out its bright light."
Waaghtasha laylaha waakhraja duhaha
79:30 ›
وَالْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَاهَا
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
And the earth -- after that He spread it out
Waal-arda baAAda thalika dahaha
79:31 ›
أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَاءَهَا وَمَرْعَاهَا
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"and drew out from it its water and its pastures,"
Akhraja minha maaha wamarAAaha
79:32 ›
وَالْجِبَالَ أَرْسَاهَا
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
and He set the mountins firm -
Waaljibala arsaha
79:33 ›
مَتَاعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
for the comfort of you and your flocks
MataAAan lakum wali-anAAamikum
79:34 ›
فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الطَّامَّةُ الْكُبْرَىٰ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"But when the great disaster comes,"
Fa-itha jaati alttammatu alkubra
79:35 ›
يَوْمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنسَانُ مَا سَعَىٰ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
the day when people will remember all of the things they were trying to achiev
Yawma yatathakkaru al-insanu ma saAAa
79:36 ›
وَبُرِّزَتِ الْجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
and Hell will be in full view for all to see
Waburrizati aljaheemu liman yara
79:37 ›
فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"then, as for the one who was rebellious"
Faamma man tagha
79:38 ›
وَآثَرَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"and chose the life of this world,"
Waathara alhayata alddunya
79:39 ›
فَإِنَّ الْجَحِيمَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَىٰ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
surely Hell will be his home
Fa-inna aljaheema hiya alma/wa
79:40 ›
وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ وَنَهَى النَّفْسَ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"But as for the one who was afraid to stand before Allah (for the Judgement) and kept himself from lower desires,"
Waama man khafa maqama rabbihi wanaha alnnafsa AAani alhawa
79:41 ›
فَإِنَّ الْجَنَّةَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَىٰ
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
surely the Garden will be his home
Fa-inna aljannata hiya alma/wa
79:42 ›
يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ السَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَاهَا
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
They ask you about the Hour: 'When will it come?'
Yas-aloonaka AAani alssaAAati ayyana mursaha
79:43 ›
فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكْرَاهَا
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
Why are you mentioning it
Feema anta min thikraha
79:44 ›
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَاهَا
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
Your Lord alone knows the final end of it
Ila rabbika muntahaha
79:45 ›
إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخْشَاهَا
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
You are only a warner to those who fear it
Innama anta munthiru man yakhshaha
79:46 ›
كَأَنَّهُمْ يَوْمَ يَرَوْنَهَا لَمْ يَلْبَثُوا إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوْ ضُحَاهَا
Torres Al Haneef (partial translation)
"On the Day that they see it, it will seem as if they had only lived for an evening, or (at the most) until the next morning!"
Kaannahum yawma yarawnaha lam yalbathoo illa AAashiyyatan aw duhaha
