رَسُولًا rasūlan

يَتْلُوا۟ yatlū
reciting V
عَلَيْهِمْ ʿalayhim
to them Prep
ءَايَٰتِنَا āyātinā
Our Verses Noun
وَمَا wamā
And not Prep
كُنَّا kunnā
We would be V
مُهْلِكِى muh'likī
(the) one to destroy Noun
ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ l-qurā
the towns Noun
إِلَّا illā

وَأَهْلُهَا wa-ahluhā

ظَٰلِمُونَ ẓālimūna
(were) wrongdoers Noun

Your Lord would never destroy towns without first raising a messenger in their midst to recite Our messages to them, nor would We destroy towns unless their inhabitants were evildoers

Arabic Text

وَمَا كَانَ رَبُّكَ مُهۡلِكَ ٱلۡقُرَىٰ حَتَّىٰ یَبۡعَثَ فِیۤ أُمِّهَا رَسُولࣰا یَتۡلُوا۟ عَلَیۡهِمۡ ءَایَـٰتِنَاۚ وَمَا كُنَّا مُهۡلِكِی ٱلۡقُرَىٰۤ إِلَّا وَأَهۡلُهَا ظَـٰلِمُونَ ۝٥٩

wamā kāna rabbuka muh'lika l-qurā ḥattā yabʿatha fī ummihā rasūlan yatlū ʿalayhim āyātinā wamā kunnā muh'likī l-qurā illā wa-ahluhā ẓālimūn
