وَٱسۡتَبَقَا ٱلۡبَابَ وَقَدَّتۡ قَمِیصَهُۥ مِن دُبُرࣲ وَأَلۡفَیَا سَیِّدَهَا لَدَا ٱلۡبَابِۚ قَالَتۡ مَا جَزَاۤءُ مَنۡ أَرَادَ بِأَهۡلِكَ سُوۤءًا إِلَّاۤ أَن یُسۡجَنَ أَوۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝٢٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And they both raced to the door, and she tore his shirt from the back, and they found her husband at the door. She said, "What is the recompense of one who intended evil for your wife but that he be imprisoned or a painful punishment?"
Abdel Haleem: They raced for the door- she tore his shirt from behind- and at the door they met her husband. She said, ‘What, other than prison or painful punishment, should be the reward of someone who tried to dishonour your wife?’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And they raced with one another to the door, and she tore his shirt from behind, and they met her lord and master at the door. She said: What shall be his reward, who wisheth evil to thy folk, save prison or a painful doom
Joseph 12:27 Noun
وَإِن كَانَ قَمِیصُهُۥ قُدَّ مِن دُبُرࣲ فَكَذَبَتۡ وَهُوَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِینَ ۝٢٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): But if his shirt is torn from the back, then she has lied, and he is of the truthful."
Abdel Haleem: but if it is torn at the back, then she is lying and he is telling the truth.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And if his shirt is torn from behind, then she hath lied and he is of the truthful
Joseph 12:28 Noun
فَلَمَّا رَءَا قَمِیصَهُۥ قُدَّ مِن دُبُرࣲ قَالَ إِنَّهُۥ مِن كَیۡدِكُنَّۖ إِنَّ كَیۡدَكُنَّ عَظِیمࣱ ۝٢٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So when her husband saw his shirt torn from the back, he said, "Indeed, it is of the women's plan. Indeed, your plan is great
Abdel Haleem: When the husband saw that the shirt was torn at the back, he said, ‘This is another instance of women’s treachery: your treachery is truly great
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: So when he saw his shirt torn from behind, he said: Lo! this is of the guile of you women. Lo! the guile of you is very great
The Rock, Stoneland, Rock City 15:65 Noun
فَأَسۡرِ بِأَهۡلِكَ بِقِطۡعࣲ مِّنَ ٱلَّیۡلِ وَٱتَّبِعۡ أَدۡبَـٰرَهُمۡ وَلَا یَلۡتَفِتۡ مِنكُمۡ أَحَدࣱ وَٱمۡضُوا۟ حَیۡثُ تُؤۡمَرُونَ ۝٦٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So set out with your family during a portion of the night and follow behind them and let not anyone among you look back and continue on to where you are commanded."
Abdel Haleem: so leave in the dead of the night with your household, and walk behind them. Let none of you look back. Go where you are commanded.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: So travel with thy household in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs. Let none of you turn round, but go whither ye are commanded
The Rock, Stoneland, Rock City 15:66 Noun
وَقَضَیۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡهِ ذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلۡأَمۡرَ أَنَّ دَابِرَ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ مَقۡطُوعࣱ مُّصۡبِحِینَ ۝٦٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by early morning
Abdel Haleem: We made this decree known to him: the last remnants of those people would be wiped out in the morning
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn
Children of Israel, The Israelites 17:46 Noun
وَجَعَلۡنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ أَكِنَّةً أَن یَفۡقَهُوهُ وَفِیۤ ءَاذَانِهِمۡ وَقۡرࣰاۚ وَإِذَا ذَكَرۡتَ رَبَّكَ فِی ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ وَحۡدَهُۥ وَلَّوۡا۟ عَلَىٰۤ أَدۡبَـٰرِهِمۡ نُفُورࣰا ۝٤٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And when you mention your Lord alone in the Qur'an, they turn back in aversion
Abdel Haleem: We have put covers on their hearts that prevent them from understanding it, and heaviness in their ears. When you mention your Lord in the Quran, and Him alone, they turn their backs and run away
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And We place upon their hearts veils lest they should understand it, and in their ears a deafness; and when thou makest mention of thy Lord alone in the Qur'an, they turn their backs in aversion
The Prophets 21:57 Noun
وَتَٱللَّهِ لَأَكِیدَنَّ أَصۡنَـٰمَكُم بَعۡدَ أَن تُوَلُّوا۟ مُدۡبِرِینَ ۝٥٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And [I swear] by Allah , I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away."
Abdel Haleem: By God I shall certainly plot against your idols as soon as you have turned your backs!’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs
The Ant, The Ants 27:10 Noun
وَأَلۡقِ عَصَاكَۚ فَلَمَّا رَءَاهَا تَهۡتَزُّ كَأَنَّهَا جَاۤنࣱّ وَلَّىٰ مُدۡبِرࣰا وَلَمۡ یُعَقِّبۡۚ یَـٰمُوسَىٰ لَا تَخَفۡ إِنِّی لَا یَخَافُ لَدَیَّ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ ۝١٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And [he was told], "Throw down your staff." But when he saw it writhing as if it were a snake, he turned in flight and did not return. [ Allah said], "O Moses, fear not. Indeed, in My presence the messengers do not fear
Abdel Haleem: Throw down your staff,’ but when he saw it moving like a snake, he turned and fled. ‘Moses, do not be afraid! The messengers need have no fear in My presence
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And throw down thy staff! But when he saw it writhing as it were a demon, he turned to flee headlong; (but it was said unto him): O Moses! Fear not! the emissaries fear not in My presence
The Ant, The Ants 27:80 Noun
إِنَّكَ لَا تُسۡمِعُ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ وَلَا تُسۡمِعُ ٱلصُّمَّ ٱلدُّعَاۤءَ إِذَا وَلَّوۡا۟ مُدۡبِرِینَ ۝٨٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Indeed, you will not make the dead hear, nor will you make the deaf hear the call when they have turned their backs retreating
Abdel Haleem: You cannot make the dead hear, you cannot make the deaf listen to your call when they turn their backs and leave
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Lo! thou canst not make the dead to hear, nor canst thou make the deaf to hear the call when they have turned to flee

وَأَنۡ أَلۡقِ عَصَاكَۚ فَلَمَّا رَءَاهَا تَهۡتَزُّ كَأَنَّهَا جَاۤنࣱّ وَلَّىٰ مُدۡبِرࣰا وَلَمۡ یُعَقِّبۡۚ یَـٰمُوسَىٰۤ أَقۡبِلۡ وَلَا تَخَفۡۖ إِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلۡءَامِنِینَ ۝٣١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And [he was told], "Throw down your staff." But when he saw it writhing as if it was a snake, he turned in flight and did not return. [ Allah said], "O Moses, approach and fear not. Indeed, you are of the secure
Abdel Haleem: Throw down your staff.’ When he saw his staff moving like a snake, he fled in fear and would not return. Again [he was called]: ‘Moses! Draw near! Do not be afraid, for you are one of those who are safe
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Throw down thy staff. And when he saw it writhing as it had been a demon, he turned to flee headlong, (and it was said unto him): O Moses! Draw nigh and fear not. Lo! thou art of those who are secure
The Romans, The Byzantines 30:52 Noun
فَإِنَّكَ لَا تُسۡمِعُ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ وَلَا تُسۡمِعُ ٱلصُّمَّ ٱلدُّعَاۤءَ إِذَا وَلَّوۡا۟ مُدۡبِرِینَ ۝٥٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So indeed, you will not make the dead hear, nor will you make the deaf hear the call when they turn their backs, retreating
Abdel Haleem: You [Prophet] cannot make the dead hear and you cannot make the deaf hear your call when they turn their backs and leave
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: For verily thou (Muhammad) canst not make the dead to hear, nor canst thou make the deaf to hear the call when they have turned to flee

وَلَقَدۡ كَانُوا۟ عَـٰهَدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مِن قَبۡلُ لَا یُوَلُّونَ ٱلۡأَدۡبَـٰرَۚ وَكَانَ عَهۡدُ ٱللَّهِ مَسۡءُولࣰا ۝١٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And they had already promised Allah before not to turn their backs and flee. And ever is the promise to Allah [that about which one will be] questioned
Abdel Haleem: Yet they had already promised God that they would not turn tail and flee, and a promise to God will be answered for
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And verily they had already sworn unto Allah that they would not turn their backs (to the foe). An oath to Allah must be answered for

فَتَوَلَّوۡا۟ عَنۡهُ مُدۡبِرِینَ ۝٩٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So they turned away from him, departing
Abdel Haleem: so [his people] turned away from him and left
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And they turned their backs and went away from him
The Family of Imran, The House of Imran 3:111 Noun
لَن یَضُرُّوكُمۡ إِلَّاۤ أَذࣰىۖ وَإِن یُقَـٰتِلُوكُمۡ یُوَلُّوكُمُ ٱلۡأَدۡبَارَ ثُمَّ لَا یُنصَرُونَ ۝١١١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): They will not harm you except for [some] annoyance. And if they fight you, they will show you their backs; then they will not be aided
Abdel Haleem: they will not do you much harm: even if they come out to fight you, they will soon turn tail; they will get no help
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: They will not harm you save a trifling hurt, and if they fight against you they will turn and flee. And afterward they will not be helped
The Forgiver, The Forgiving One 40:33 Noun
یَوۡمَ تُوَلُّونَ مُدۡبِرِینَ مَا لَكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مِنۡ عَاصِمࣲۗ وَمَن یُضۡلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِنۡ هَادࣲ ۝٣٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): The Day you will turn your backs fleeing; there is not for you from Allah any protector. And whoever Allah leaves astray - there is not for him any guide
Abdel Haleem: the Day you will turn tail and flee with no one to defend you from God! Whoever God leaves to stray will have no one to guide him
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: A day when ye will turn to flee, having no preserver from Allah: and he whom Allah sendeth astray, for him there is no guide
Muhammad 47:25 Noun
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱرۡتَدُّوا۟ عَلَىٰۤ أَدۡبَـٰرِهِم مِّنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا تَبَیَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلۡهُدَى ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُ سَوَّلَ لَهُمۡ وَأَمۡلَىٰ لَهُمۡ ۝٢٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Indeed, those who reverted back [to disbelief] after guidance had become clear to them - Satan enticed them and prolonged hope for them
Abdel Haleem: Those who turn on their heels after being shown guidance are duped and tempted by Satan
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Lo! those who turn back after the guidance hath been manifested unto them, Satan hath seduced them, and He giveth them the rein
Muhammad 47:27 Noun
فَكَیۡفَ إِذَا تَوَفَّتۡهُمُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ یَضۡرِبُونَ وُجُوهَهُمۡ وَأَدۡبَـٰرَهُمۡ ۝٢٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Then how [will it be] when the angels take them in death, striking their faces and their backs
Abdel Haleem: How will they feel when the angels take them in death and beat their faces and their back
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Then how (will it be with them) when the angels gather them, smiting their faces and their backs
Victory, Conquest 48:22 Noun
وَلَوۡ قَـٰتَلَكُمُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوَلَّوُا۟ ٱلۡأَدۡبَـٰرَ ثُمَّ لَا یَجِدُونَ وَلِیࣰّا وَلَا نَصِیرࣰا ۝٢٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And if those [Makkans] who disbelieve had fought you, they would have turned their backs [in flight]. Then they would not find a protector or a helper
Abdel Haleem: If the disbelievers had fought against you, they would have taken flight and found no one to protect or support them
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And if those who disbelieve join battle with you they will take to flight, and afterward they will find no protecting friend nor helper
Women 4:47 Noun
یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ ءَامِنُوا۟ بِمَا نَزَّلۡنَا مُصَدِّقࣰا لِّمَا مَعَكُم مِّن قَبۡلِ أَن نَّطۡمِسَ وُجُوهࣰا فَنَرُدَّهَا عَلَىٰۤ أَدۡبَارِهَاۤ أَوۡ نَلۡعَنَهُمۡ كَمَا لَعَنَّاۤ أَصۡحَـٰبَ ٱلسَّبۡتِۚ وَكَانَ أَمۡرُ ٱللَّهِ مَفۡعُولًا ۝٤٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): O you who were given the Scripture, believe in what We have sent down [to Muhammad], confirming that which is with you, before We obliterate faces and turn them toward their backs or curse them as We cursed the sabbath-breakers. And ever is the decree of Allah accomplished
Abdel Haleem: People of the Book, believe in what We have sent down to confirm what you already have before We wipe out [your sense of ] direction, turning you back, or reject you, as We rejected those who broke the Sabbath: God’s will is always done
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: O ye unto whom the Scripture hath been given! Believe in what We have revealed confirming that which ye possess, before We destroy countenances so as to confound them, or curse them as We cursed the Sabbath-breakers (of old time). The commandment of Allah is always executed
The Letter Qaf 50:40 Noun
وَمِنَ ٱلَّیۡلِ فَسَبِّحۡهُ وَأَدۡبَـٰرَ ٱلسُّجُودِ ۝٤٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And [in part] of the night exalt Him and after prostration
Abdel Haleem: proclaim His praise in the night and at the end of every prayer
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And in the night-time hymn His praise, and after the (prescribed) prostrations
The Mount, The Mountain 52:49 Noun
وَمِنَ ٱلَّیۡلِ فَسَبِّحۡهُ وَإِدۡبَـٰرَ ٱلنُّجُومِ ۝٤٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And in a part of the night exalt Him and after [the setting of] the stars
Abdel Haleem: Glorify Him at night and at the fading of the stars
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And in the night-time also hymn His praise, and at the setting of the stars
The Moon 54:45 Noun
سَیُهۡزَمُ ٱلۡجَمۡعُ وَیُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ ۝٤٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): [Their] assembly will be defeated, and they will turn their backs [in retreat]
Abdel Haleem: Their forces will be routed and they will turn tail and flee
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: The hosts will all be routed and will turn and flee
Exile, Banishment 59:12 Noun
لَىِٕنۡ أُخۡرِجُوا۟ لَا یَخۡرُجُونَ مَعَهُمۡ وَلَىِٕن قُوتِلُوا۟ لَا یَنصُرُونَهُمۡ وَلَىِٕن نَّصَرُوهُمۡ لَیُوَلُّنَّ ٱلۡأَدۡبَـٰرَ ثُمَّ لَا یُنصَرُونَ ۝١٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): If they are expelled, they will not leave with them, and if they are fought, they will not aid them. And [even] if they should aid them, they will surely turn their backs; then [thereafter] they will not be aided
Abdel Haleem: if they are driven out, they will never leave with them; if they are attacked, they will never help them. Even if they did come to their aid, they would soon turn tail and flee- in the end they would have no help
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: (For) indeed if they are driven out they go not out with them, and indeed if they are attacked they help them not, and indeed if they had helped them they would have turned and fled, and then they would not have been victorious
The Table, The Table Spread 5:21 Noun
یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱدۡخُلُوا۟ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ ٱلۡمُقَدَّسَةَ ٱلَّتِی كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمۡ وَلَا تَرۡتَدُّوا۟ عَلَىٰۤ أَدۡبَارِكُمۡ فَتَنقَلِبُوا۟ خَـٰسِرِینَ ۝٢١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): O my people, enter the Holy Land which Allah has assigned to you and do not turn back [from fighting in Allah 's cause] and [thus] become losers."
Abdel Haleem: My people, go into the holy land which God has ordained for you––do not turn back or you will be the losers.’
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: O my people! Go into the holy land which Allah hath ordained for you. Turn not in flight, for surely ye turn back as losers
Cattle, Livestock 6:45 Noun
فَقُطِعَ دَابِرُ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ۚ وَٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٤٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So the people that committed wrong were eliminated. And praise to Allah , Lord of the worlds
Abdel Haleem: The evildoers were wiped out: praise be to God, the Lord of the Worlds
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: So of the people who did wrong the last remnant was cut off. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds
Those Who Drag Forth, Soul-snatchers, Those Who Pulled Out 79:5 Noun
فَالْمُدَبِّرَاتِ أَمْرًا
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And those who arrange [each] matter
Abdel Haleem: to bring the matter to an end
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And those who govern the event
The Heights, The Elevated Places 7:72 Noun
فَأَنجَیۡنَـٰهُ وَٱلَّذِینَ مَعَهُۥ بِرَحۡمَةࣲ مِّنَّا وَقَطَعۡنَا دَابِرَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَاۖ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٧٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): So We saved him and those with him by mercy from Us. And We eliminated those who denied Our signs, and they were not [at all] believers
Abdel Haleem: We saved him, and those who were with him, through Our mercy; We destroyed those who denied Our revelations and would not believe
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And We saved him and those with him by a mercy from Us, and We cut the root of those who denied Our revelations and were not believers
The Spoils of War 8:15 Noun
یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِذَا لَقِیتُمُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ زَحۡفࣰا فَلَا تُوَلُّوهُمُ ٱلۡأَدۡبَارَ ۝١٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): O you who have believed, when you meet those who disbelieve advancing [for battle], do not turn to them your backs [in flight]
Abdel Haleem: Believers, when you meet the disbelievers in battle, never turn your backs on them
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: O ye who believe! When ye meet those who disbelieve in battle, turn not your backs to them
The Spoils of War 8:16 Noun
وَمَن یُوَلِّهِمۡ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ دُبُرَهُۥۤ إِلَّا مُتَحَرِّفࣰا لِّقِتَالٍ أَوۡ مُتَحَیِّزًا إِلَىٰ فِئَةࣲ فَقَدۡ بَاۤءَ بِغَضَبࣲ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَمَأۡوَىٰهُ جَهَنَّمُۖ وَبِئۡسَ ٱلۡمَصِیرُ ۝١٦
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And whoever turns his back to them on such a day, unless swerving [as a strategy] for war or joining [another] company, has certainly returned with anger [upon him] from Allah , and his refuge is Hell - and wretched is the destination
Abdel Haleem: if anyone does so on such a day- unless maneuvring to fight or to join a fighting group- he incurs the wrath of God, and Hell will be his home, a wretched destination
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Whoso on that day turneth his back to them, unless manoeuvring for battle or intent to join a company, he truly hath incurred wrath from Allah, and his habitation will be hell, a hapless journey's end
The Spoils of War 8:50 Noun
وَلَوۡ تَرَىٰۤ إِذۡ یَتَوَفَّى ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ یَضۡرِبُونَ وُجُوهَهُمۡ وَأَدۡبَـٰرَهُمۡ وَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابَ ٱلۡحَرِیقِ ۝٥٠
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And if you could but see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieved... They are striking their faces and their backs and [saying], "Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire
Abdel Haleem: If only you [Prophet] could see, when the angels take the souls of the disbelievers, how they strike their faces and backs: it will be said, ‘Taste the punishment of the Fire
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: If thou couldst see how the angels receive those who disbelieve, smiting faces and their backs and (saying): Taste the punishment of burning
The Spoils of War 8:7 Noun
وَإِذۡ یَعِدُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ إِحۡدَى ٱلطَّاۤىِٕفَتَیۡنِ أَنَّهَا لَكُمۡ وَتَوَدُّونَ أَنَّ غَیۡرَ ذَاتِ ٱلشَّوۡكَةِ تَكُونُ لَكُمۡ وَیُرِیدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن یُحِقَّ ٱلۡحَقَّ بِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦ وَیَقۡطَعَ دَابِرَ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): [Remember, O believers], when Allah promised you one of the two groups - that it would be yours - and you wished that the unarmed one would be yours. But Allah intended to establish the truth by His words and to eliminate the disbeliever
Abdel Haleem: Remember how God promised you [believers] that one of the two enemy groups would fall to you: you wanted the unarmed group to be yours, but it was God’s will to establish the truth according to His Word and to finish off the disbelievers––
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And when Allah promised you one of the two bands (of the enemy) that it should be yours, and ye longed that other than the armed one might be yours. And Allah willed that He should cause the Truth to triumph by His words, and cut the root of the disbelievers
Repentance 9:25 Noun
لَقَدۡ نَصَرَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِی مَوَاطِنَ كَثِیرَةࣲ وَیَوۡمَ حُنَیۡنٍ إِذۡ أَعۡجَبَتۡكُمۡ كَثۡرَتُكُمۡ فَلَمۡ تُغۡنِ عَنكُمۡ شَیۡءࣰا وَضَاقَتۡ عَلَیۡكُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ بِمَا رَحُبَتۡ ثُمَّ وَلَّیۡتُم مُّدۡبِرِینَ ۝٢٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Allah has already given you victory in many regions and [even] on the day of iunayn, when your great number pleased you, but it did not avail you at all, and the earth was confining for you with its vastness; then you turned back, fleeing
Abdel Haleem: God has helped you [believers] on many battlefields, even on the day of the Battle of Hunayn. You were well pleased with your large numbers, but they were of no use to you: the earth seemed to close in on you despite its spaciousness, and you turned tail and fled
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Allah hath given you victory on many fields and on the day of Huneyn, when ye exulted in your multitude but it availed you naught, and the earth, vast as it is, was straitened for you; then ye turned back in flight

Jonah 10:3 Verb
إِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ فِی سِتَّةِ أَیَّامࣲ ثُمَّ ٱسۡتَوَىٰ عَلَى ٱلۡعَرۡشِۖ یُدَبِّرُ ٱلۡأَمۡرَۖ مَا مِن شَفِیعٍ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ إِذۡنِهِۦۚ ذَ ٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمۡ فَٱعۡبُدُوهُۚ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Indeed, your Lord is Allah , who created the heavens and the earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne, arranging the matter [of His creation]. There is no intercessor except after His permission. That is Allah , your Lord, so worship Him. Then will you not remember
Abdel Haleem: Your Lord is God who created the heavens and earth in six Days, then established Himself on the Throne, governing everything; there is no one that can intercede with Him, unless He has first given permission: this is God your Lord so worship Him. How can you not take heed
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Lo! your Lord is Allah Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days, then He established Himself upon the Throne, directing all things. There is no intercessor (with Him) save after His permission. That is Allah, your Lord, so worship Him. Oh, will ye not remind
Jonah 10:31 Verb
قُلۡ مَن یَرۡزُقُكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَمَّن یَمۡلِكُ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرَ وَمَن یُخۡرِجُ ٱلۡحَیَّ مِنَ ٱلۡمَیِّتِ وَیُخۡرِجُ ٱلۡمَیِّتَ مِنَ ٱلۡحَیِّ وَمَن یُدَبِّرُ ٱلۡأَمۡرَۚ فَسَیَقُولُونَ ٱللَّهُۚ فَقُلۡ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ۝٣١
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Say, "Who provides for you from the heaven and the earth? Or who controls hearing and sight and who brings the living out of the dead and brings the dead out of the living and who arranges [every] matter?" They will say, " Allah ," so say, "Then will you not fear Him?"
Abdel Haleem: Say [Prophet], ‘Who provides for you from the sky and the earth? Who controls hearing and sight? Who brings forth the living from the dead and the dead from the living, and who governs everything?’ They are sure to say, ‘God.’ Then say, ‘So why do you not take heed of Him
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Who provideth for you from the sky and the earth, or Who owneth hearing and sight; and Who bringeth forth the living from the dead and bringeth forth the dead from the living; and Who directeth the course? They will say: Allah. Then say: Will ye not then keep your duty (unto Him)
The Thunder 13:2 Verb
ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی رَفَعَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ بِغَیۡرِ عَمَدࣲ تَرَوۡنَهَاۖ ثُمَّ ٱسۡتَوَىٰ عَلَى ٱلۡعَرۡشِۖ وَسَخَّرَ ٱلشَّمۡسَ وَٱلۡقَمَرَۖ كُلࣱّ یَجۡرِی لِأَجَلࣲ مُّسَمࣰّىۚ یُدَبِّرُ ٱلۡأَمۡرَ یُفَصِّلُ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ لَعَلَّكُم بِلِقَاۤءِ رَبِّكُمۡ تُوقِنُونَ ۝٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): It is Allah who erected the heavens without pillars that you [can] see; then He established Himself above the Throne and made subject the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term. He arranges [each] matter; He details the signs that you may, of the meeting with your Lord, be certain
Abdel Haleem: It is God who raised up the heavens with no visible supports and then established Himself on the throne; He has subjected the sun and the moon each to pursue its course for an appointed time; He regulates all things, and makes the revelations clear so that you may be certain of meeting your Lord
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Allah it is Who raised up the heavens without visible supports, then mounted the Throne, and compelled the sun and the moon to be of service, each runneth unto an appointed term; He ordereth the course; He detaileth the revelations, that haply ye may be certain of the meeting with your Lord
The Believers 23:68 Verb
أَفَلَمۡ یَدَّبَّرُوا۟ ٱلۡقَوۡلَ أَمۡ جَاۤءَهُم مَّا لَمۡ یَأۡتِ ءَابَاۤءَهُمُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٦٨
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Then have they not reflected over the Qur'an, or has there come to them that which had not come to their forefathers
Abdel Haleem: Have they not contemplated the Word of God? Has something come to them that did not come to their forefathers
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Have they not pondered the Word, or hath that come unto them which came not unto their fathers of old
The Prostration, Worship, Adoration, The Adoration 32:5 Verb
یُدَبِّرُ ٱلۡأَمۡرَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ إِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ثُمَّ یَعۡرُجُ إِلَیۡهِ فِی یَوۡمࣲ كَانَ مِقۡدَارُهُۥۤ أَلۡفَ سَنَةࣲ مِّمَّا تَعُدُّونَ ۝٥
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): He arranges [each] matter from the heaven to the earth; then it will ascend to Him in a Day, the extent of which is a thousand years of those which you count
Abdel Haleem: He runs everything, from the heavens to the earth, and everything will ascend to Him in the end, on a Day that will measure a thousand years in your reckoning
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: He directeth the ordinance from the heaven unto the earth; then it ascendeth unto Him in a Day, whereof the measure is a thousand years of that ye reckon
The Letter Sad 38:29 Verb
كِتَـٰبٌ أَنزَلۡنَـٰهُ إِلَیۡكَ مُبَـٰرَكࣱ لِّیَدَّبَّرُوۤا۟ ءَایَـٰتِهِۦ وَلِیَتَذَكَّرَ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلۡأَلۡبَـٰبِ ۝٢٩
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): [This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded
Abdel Haleem: This is a blessed Scripture which We sent down to you [Muhammad], for people to think about its messages, and for those with understanding to take heed
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: (This is) a Scripture that We have revealed unto thee, full of blessing, that they may ponder its revelations, and that men of understanding may reflect
Muhammad 47:24 Verb
أَفَلَا یَتَدَبَّرُونَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ أَمۡ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبٍ أَقۡفَالُهَاۤ ۝٢٤
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Then do they not reflect upon the Qur'an, or are there locks upon [their] hearts
Abdel Haleem: Will they not contemplate the Quran? Do they have locks on their hearts
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Will they then not meditate on the Qur'an, or are there locks on the hearts
Women 4:82 Verb
أَفَلَا یَتَدَبَّرُونَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَۚ وَلَوۡ كَانَ مِنۡ عِندِ غَیۡرِ ٱللَّهِ لَوَجَدُوا۟ فِیهِ ٱخۡتِلَـٰفࣰا كَثِیرࣰا ۝٨٢
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Then do they not reflect upon the Qur'an? If it had been from [any] other than Allah , they would have found within it much contradiction
Abdel Haleem: Will they not think about this Quran? If it had been from anyone other than God, they would have found much inconsistency in it
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Will they not then ponder on the Qur'an? If it had been from other than Allah they would have found therein much incongruity
The Ascending Stairways, The Ladders 70:17 Verb
تَدۡعُوا۟ مَنۡ أَدۡبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ ۝١٧
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience]
Abdel Haleem: and it will claim everyone who rejects the truth, turns away
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth)
The Cloaked One, The Man Wearing a Cloak, The Clothed One 74:23 Verb
ثُمَّ أَدۡبَرَ وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرَ ۝٢٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Then he turned back and was arrogan
Abdel Haleem: and turned away and behaved arrogantl
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Then turned he away in prid
The Cloaked One, The Man Wearing a Cloak, The Clothed One 74:33 Verb
وَٱلَّیۡلِ إِذۡ أَدۡبَرَ ۝٣٣
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): And [by] the night when it depart
Abdel Haleem: By the departing night
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: And the night when it withdrawet
Those Who Drag Forth, Soul-snatchers, Those Who Pulled Out 79:22 Verb
ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ يَسْعَىٰ
Umm Muhammad (Sahih International): Then he turned his back, striving
Abdel Haleem: He turned away and hastil
Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall: Then turned he away in haste
