52:1 ›
وَٱلطُّورِ ۝١
Bridges
By Mount Tûr.
wal-ṭūr
52:2 ›
وَكِتَـٰبࣲ مَّسۡطُورࣲ ۝٢
Bridges
By a scripture inscribed
wakitābin masṭūri
52:3 ›
فِی رَقࣲّ مَّنشُورࣲ ۝٣
Bridges
in an unrolled parchment.
fī raqqin manshūri
52:4 ›
وَٱلۡبَیۡتِ ٱلۡمَعۡمُورِ ۝٤
Bridges
By the frequented House (of God).
wal-bayti l-maʿmūr
52:5 ›
وَٱلسَّقۡفِ ٱلۡمَرۡفُوعِ ۝٥
Bridges
By the raised canopy.
wal-saqfi l-marfūʿ
52:6 ›
وَٱلۡبَحۡرِ ٱلۡمَسۡجُورِ ۝٦
Bridges
By the sea flared up with fire—
wal-baḥri l-masjūr
52:7 ›
إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ لَوَ ٰقِعࣱ ۝٧
Bridges
the punishment of yoursg Lord is sure to come;
inna ʿadhāba rabbika lawāqiʿu
52:8 ›
مَّا لَهُۥ مِن دَافِعࣲ ۝٨
Bridges
there is nothing to avert it
mā lahu min dāfiʿi
52:9 ›
یَوۡمَ تَمُورُ ٱلسَّمَاۤءُ مَوۡرࣰا ۝٩
Bridges
on the day when the sky sways in agitation
yawma tamūru l-samāu mawra
52:10 ›
وَتَسِیرُ ٱلۡجِبَالُ سَیۡرࣰا ۝١٠
Bridges
and the mountains go into motion.
watasīru l-jibālu sayra
52:11 ›
فَوَیۡلࣱ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِینَ ۝١١
Bridges
So woe on that day to the disbelievers
fawaylun yawma-idhin lil'mukadhibīn
52:12 ›
ٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ فِی خَوۡضࣲ یَلۡعَبُونَ ۝١٢
Bridges
who are indulged in vain talk, playing.
alladhīna hum fī khawḍin yalʿabūn
52:13 ›
یَوۡمَ یُدَعُّونَ إِلَىٰ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ دَعًّا ۝١٣
Bridges
The day when they are shoved into the Fire of Hell forcefully.
yawma yudaʿʿūna ilā nāri jahannama daʿʿa
52:14 ›
هَـٰذِهِ ٱلنَّارُ ٱلَّتِی كُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ ۝١٤
Bridges
“This is the Fire in which youpl used to disbelieve.
hādhihi l-nāru allatī kuntum bihā tukadhibūn
52:15 ›
أَفَسِحۡرٌ هَـٰذَاۤ أَمۡ أَنتُمۡ لَا تُبۡصِرُونَ ۝١٥
Bridges
Is this magic, or do youpl not see?
afasiḥ'run hādhā am antum lā tub'ṣirūn
52:16 ›
ٱصۡلَوۡهَا فَٱصۡبِرُوۤا۟ أَوۡ لَا تَصۡبِرُوا۟ سَوَاۤءٌ عَلَیۡكُمۡۖ إِنَّمَا تُجۡزَوۡنَ مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٦
Bridges
Roast in it, and be patient or be impatient—it is the same for youpl; indeed, you are only being repaid for what you used to do.”
iṣ'lawhā fa-iṣ'birū aw lā taṣbirū sawāon ʿalaykum innamā tuj'zawna mā kuntum taʿmalūn
52:17 ›
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ فِی جَنَّـٰتࣲ وَنَعِیمࣲ ۝١٧
Bridges
Indeed, the mindful (of God) are in Gardens and bliss,
inna l-mutaqīna fī jannātin wanaʿīmi
52:18 ›
فَـٰكِهِینَ بِمَاۤ ءَاتَىٰهُمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ وَوَقَىٰهُمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ عَذَابَ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ۝١٨
Bridges
enjoying what their Lord has brought them, and their Lord has shielded them from the punishment of purgatory.
fākihīna bimā ātāhum rabbuhum wawaqāhum rabbuhum ʿadhāba l-jaḥīm
52:19 ›
كُلُوا۟ وَٱشۡرَبُوا۟ هَنِیۤءَۢا بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٩
Bridges
Eat and drink pleasantly on account of what youpl used to do.
kulū wa-ish'rabū hanīan bimā kuntum taʿmalūn
52:20 ›
مُتَّكِءِینَ عَلَىٰ سُرُرࣲ مَّصۡفُوفَةࣲۖ وَزَوَّجۡنَـٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِینࣲ ۝٢٠
Bridges
Relaxing on luxurious furnishings, and We coupled them with spouses with lovely wide eyes.
muttakiīna ʿalā sururin maṣfūfatin wazawwajnāhum biḥūrin ʿīni
52:21 ›
وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعَتۡهُمۡ ذُرِّیَّتُهُم بِإِیمَـٰنٍ أَلۡحَقۡنَا بِهِمۡ ذُرِّیَّتَهُمۡ وَمَاۤ أَلَتۡنَـٰهُم مِّنۡ عَمَلِهِم مِّن شَیۡءࣲۚ كُلُّ ٱمۡرِىِٕۭ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِینࣱ ۝٢١
Bridges
And those who attained faith and whose offspring followed them in faith—We have united them with their offspring, and We have not deprived them of anything of their work; every person is in pledge for what (deeds) he has earned.
wa-alladhīna āmanū wa-ittabaʿathum dhurriyyatuhum biīmānin alḥaqnā bihim dhurriyyatahum wamā alatnāhum min ʿamalihim min shayin kullu im'ri-in bimā kasaba rahīnu
52:22 ›
وَأَمۡدَدۡنَـٰهُم بِفَـٰكِهَةࣲ وَلَحۡمࣲ مِّمَّا یَشۡتَهُونَ ۝٢٢
Bridges
And We have supplied them with fruit and meat such as they desire.
wa-amdadnāhum bifākihatin walaḥmin mimmā yashtahūn
52:23 ›
یَتَنَـٰزَعُونَ فِیهَا كَأۡسࣰا لَّا لَغۡوࣱ فِیهَا وَلَا تَأۡثِیمࣱ ۝٢٣
Bridges
They exchange therein a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or recrimination.
yatanāzaʿūna fīhā kasan lā laghwun fīhā walā tathīmu
52:24 ›
۞ وَیَطُوفُ عَلَیۡهِمۡ غِلۡمَانࣱ لَّهُمۡ كَأَنَّهُمۡ لُؤۡلُؤࣱ مَّكۡنُونࣱ ۝٢٤
Bridges
And serving them are youths like nestled pearls.
wayaṭūfu ʿalayhim ghil'mānun lahum ka-annahum lu'lu-on maknūnu
52:25 ›
وَأَقۡبَلَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲ یَتَسَاۤءَلُونَ ۝٢٥
Bridges
And they approached one another, inquiring.
wa-aqbala baʿḍuhum ʿalā baʿḍin yatasāalūn
52:26 ›
قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّا كُنَّا قَبۡلُ فِیۤ أَهۡلِنَا مُشۡفِقِینَ ۝٢٦
Bridges
They said, “When we were still with our families we used to live in fear,
qālū innā kunnā qablu fī ahlinā mush'fiqīn
52:27 ›
فَمَنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَیۡنَا وَوَقَىٰنَا عَذَابَ ٱلسَّمُومِ ۝٢٧
Bridges
so Allah has conferred favor upon us and has shielded us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire.
famanna l-lahu ʿalaynā wawaqānā ʿadhāba l-samūm
52:28 ›
إِنَّا كُنَّا مِن قَبۡلُ نَدۡعُوهُۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلۡبَرُّ ٱلرَّحِیمُ ۝٢٨
Bridges
Indeed, before this we used to pray to Him; indeed, He is the Fulfiller of promises, the Bestower of mercy.”
innā kunnā min qablu nadʿūhu innahu huwa l-baru l-raḥīm
2 Opponents are doomed
52:29 ›
فَذَكِّرۡ فَمَاۤ أَنتَ بِنِعۡمَتِ رَبِّكَ بِكَاهِنࣲ وَلَا مَجۡنُونٍ ۝٢٩
Bridges
So remind, for yousg are neither a soothsayer nor a madman.
fadhakkir famā anta biniʿ'mati rabbika bikāhinin walā majnūni
52:30 ›
أَمۡ یَقُولُونَ شَاعِرࣱ نَّتَرَبَّصُ بِهِۦ رَیۡبَ ٱلۡمَنُونِ ۝٣٠
Bridges
Or do they say, “A poet for whom we await a calamity of time”?
am yaqūlūna shāʿirun natarabbaṣu bihi rayba l-manūn
52:31 ›
قُلۡ تَرَبَّصُوا۟ فَإِنِّی مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡمُتَرَبِّصِینَ ۝٣١
Bridges
Saysg, “Go on awaiting, for I am with youpl among those awaiting.”
qul tarabbaṣū fa-innī maʿakum mina l-mutarabiṣīn
52:32 ›
أَمۡ تَأۡمُرُهُمۡ أَحۡلَـٰمُهُم بِهَـٰذَاۤۚ أَمۡ هُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ طَاغُونَ ۝٣٢
Bridges
Or is it that their discerning minds command them to this? Or are they a people who exceed all limits?
am tamuruhum aḥlāmuhum bihādhā am hum qawmun ṭāghūn
52:33 ›
أَمۡ یَقُولُونَ تَقَوَّلَهُۥۚ بَل لَّا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٣٣
Bridges
Or do they say, “He made it up”? In fact, they do not believe.
am yaqūlūna taqawwalahu bal lā yu'minūn
52:34 ›
فَلۡیَأۡتُوا۟ بِحَدِیثࣲ مِّثۡلِهِۦۤ إِن كَانُوا۟ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝٣٤
Bridges
So let them produce a discourse like it if they are truthful.
falyatū biḥadīthin mith'lihi in kānū ṣādiqīn
52:35 ›
أَمۡ خُلِقُوا۟ مِنۡ غَیۡرِ شَیۡءٍ أَمۡ هُمُ ٱلۡخَـٰلِقُونَ ۝٣٥
Bridges
Or were they created out of nothing? Or are they the creators?
am khuliqū min ghayri shayin am humu l-khāliqūn
52:36 ›
أَمۡ خَلَقُوا۟ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَۚ بَل لَّا یُوقِنُونَ ۝٣٦
Bridges
Or did they create the heavens and the earth? In fact, they are not certain.
am khalaqū l-samāwāti wal-arḍa bal lā yūqinūn
52:37 ›
أَمۡ عِندَهُمۡ خَزَاۤىِٕنُ رَبِّكَ أَمۡ هُمُ ٱلۡمُصَۣیۡطِرُونَ ۝٣٧
Bridges
Or do they possess the treasuries of your Lord? Or are they the controllers?
am ʿindahum khazāinu rabbika am humu l-muṣayṭirūn
52:38 ›
أَمۡ لَهُمۡ سُلَّمࣱ یَسۡتَمِعُونَ فِیهِۖ فَلۡیَأۡتِ مُسۡتَمِعُهُم بِسُلۡطَـٰنࣲ مُّبِینٍ ۝٣٨
Bridges
Or do they have a stairway (to heaven) by means of which they listen? Then let their listener bring an evident manifestation.
am lahum sullamun yastamiʿūna fīhi falyati mus'tamiʿuhum bisul'ṭānin mubīni
52:39 ›
أَمۡ لَهُ ٱلۡبَنَـٰتُ وَلَكُمُ ٱلۡبَنُونَ ۝٣٩
Bridges
Or is He to have the daughters and youpl the sons?
am lahu l-banātu walakumu l-banūn
52:40 ›
أَمۡ تَسۡءَلُهُمۡ أَجۡرࣰا فَهُم مِّن مَّغۡرَمࣲ مُّثۡقَلُونَ ۝٤٠
Bridges
Or do yousg ask them for a reward so that they are weighed down by debt?
am tasaluhum ajran fahum min maghramin muth'qalūn
52:41 ›
أَمۡ عِندَهُمُ ٱلۡغَیۡبُ فَهُمۡ یَكۡتُبُونَ ۝٤١
Bridges
Or do they have (knowledge of) the hidden realm and they are writing it down?
am ʿindahumu l-ghaybu fahum yaktubūn
52:42 ›
أَمۡ یُرِیدُونَ كَیۡدࣰاۖ فَٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلۡمَكِیدُونَ ۝٤٢
Bridges
Or do they want a plot? Rather, the plot will only befall the deniers.
am yurīdūna kaydan fa-alladhīna kafarū humu l-makīdūn
52:43 ›
أَمۡ لَهُمۡ إِلَـٰهٌ غَیۡرُ ٱللَّهِۚ سُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٤٣
Bridges
Or do they have a god other than Allah? Highly Exalted is Allah above what they associate.
am lahum ilāhun ghayru l-lahi sub'ḥāna l-lahi ʿammā yush'rikūn
52:44 ›
وَإِن یَرَوۡا۟ كِسۡفࣰا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ سَاقِطࣰا یَقُولُوا۟ سَحَابࣱ مَّرۡكُومࣱ ۝٤٤
Bridges
And if they were to see lumps of sky falling, they would say, “A mass of clouds.”
wa-in yaraw kis'fan mina l-samāi sāqiṭan yaqūlū saḥābun markūmu
52:45 ›
فَذَرۡهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ یُلَـٰقُوا۟ یَوۡمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِی فِیهِ یُصۡعَقُونَ ۝٤٥
Bridges
So leavesg them until they meet their day in which they are stunned—
fadharhum ḥattā yulāqū yawmahumu alladhī fīhi yuṣ'ʿaqūn
52:46 ›
یَوۡمَ لَا یُغۡنِی عَنۡهُمۡ كَیۡدُهُمۡ شَیۡءࣰا وَلَا هُمۡ یُنصَرُونَ ۝٤٦
Bridges
the day when their plots avail them nothing, nor are they supported.
yawma lā yugh'nī ʿanhum kayduhum shayan walā hum yunṣarūn
52:47 ›
وَإِنَّ لِلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ عَذَابࣰا دُونَ ذَ ٰلِكَ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٤٧
Bridges
And indeed, for those who did injustice there is a punishment apart from that, but most of them do not know.
wa-inna lilladhīna ẓalamū ʿadhāban dūna dhālika walākinna aktharahum lā yaʿlamūn
52:48 ›
وَٱصۡبِرۡ لِحُكۡمِ رَبِّكَ فَإِنَّكَ بِأَعۡیُنِنَاۖ وَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّكَ حِینَ تَقُومُ ۝٤٨
Bridges
So wait patiently for the decree of yoursg Lord, for you are before Our Eyes. And highly exalt your Lord with praise when you arise,
wa-iṣ'bir liḥuk'mi rabbika fa-innaka bi-aʿyuninā wasabbiḥ biḥamdi rabbika ḥīna taqūm
52:49 ›
وَمِنَ ٱلَّیۡلِ فَسَبِّحۡهُ وَإِدۡبَـٰرَ ٱلنُّجُومِ ۝٤٩
Bridges
and highly exalt Him during the night and at the receding of the stars.
wamina al-layli fasabbiḥ'hu wa-id'bāra l-nujūm
