52:1 ›
وَٱلطُّورِ ۝١
Shabbir Ahmed
Mount Sinai stands witness. (That this Qur'an is a Divine Writ as was the Scripture of Law bestowed upon Moses)
wal-ṭūr
52:2 ›
وَكِتَـٰبࣲ مَّسۡطُورࣲ ۝٢
Shabbir Ahmed
And a well-scored Book it is
wakitābin masṭūri
52:3 ›
فِی رَقࣲّ مَّنشُورࣲ ۝٣
Shabbir Ahmed
Written on fine parchment, unrolled, open for everyone to read, widely published
fī raqqin manshūri
52:4 ›
وَٱلۡبَیۡتِ ٱلۡمَعۡمُورِ ۝٤
Shabbir Ahmed
And the Blessed House that is frequently visited (the Ka'bah) stands witness
wal-bayti l-maʿmūr
52:5 ›
وَٱلسَّقۡفِ ٱلۡمَرۡفُوعِ ۝٥
Shabbir Ahmed
By the exalted canopy (of the sky, this Book is Exalted)
wal-saqfi l-marfūʿ
52:6 ›
وَٱلۡبَحۡرِ ٱلۡمَسۡجُورِ ۝٦
Shabbir Ahmed
And by the ocean bustling with ships and lights
wal-baḥri l-masjūr
52:7 ›
إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ لَوَ ٰقِعࣱ ۝٧
Shabbir Ahmed
Behold, the retribution of your Lord is now inevitable
inna ʿadhāba rabbika lawāqiʿu
52:8 ›
مَّا لَهُۥ مِن دَافِعࣲ ۝٨
Shabbir Ahmed
There is none who can repel it
mā lahu min dāfiʿi
52:9 ›
یَوۡمَ تَمُورُ ٱلسَّمَاۤءُ مَوۡرࣰا ۝٩
Shabbir Ahmed
On the day when the high elite will be shaken, and shaken well. ('Sama' = Sky, heaven, height, top and elite)
yawma tamūru l-samāu mawra
52:10 ›
وَتَسِیرُ ٱلۡجِبَالُ سَیۡرࣰا ۝١٠
Shabbir Ahmed
And the strong leaders will be moved with a movement. ('Jibal' = Mountains, of firm standing, strong leaders, high and powerful, dominating)
watasīru l-jibālu sayra
52:11 ›
فَوَیۡلࣱ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِینَ ۝١١
Shabbir Ahmed
Ultimately, then, is destruction on that Day for all who belie the Truth
fawaylun yawma-idhin lil'mukadhibīn
52:12 ›
ٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ فِی خَوۡضࣲ یَلۡعَبُونَ ۝١٢
Shabbir Ahmed
Who peddle the play of shallow rituals
alladhīna hum fī khawḍin yalʿabūn
52:13 ›
یَوۡمَ یُدَعُّونَ إِلَىٰ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ دَعًّا ۝١٣
Shabbir Ahmed
The Day when they are thrust into the fire of Hell with a mighty thrust
yawma yudaʿʿūna ilā nāri jahannama daʿʿa
52:14 ›
هَـٰذِهِ ٱلنَّارُ ٱلَّتِی كُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ ۝١٤
Shabbir Ahmed
This is the Fire that you used to belie
hādhihi l-nāru allatī kuntum bihā tukadhibūn
52:15 ›
أَفَسِحۡرٌ هَـٰذَاۤ أَمۡ أَنتُمۡ لَا تُبۡصِرُونَ ۝١٥
Shabbir Ahmed
Is it, and was it, then, magic - or is it that you never used your Vision
afasiḥ'run hādhā am antum lā tub'ṣirūn
52:16 ›
ٱصۡلَوۡهَا فَٱصۡبِرُوۤا۟ أَوۡ لَا تَصۡبِرُوا۟ سَوَاۤءٌ عَلَیۡكُمۡۖ إِنَّمَا تُجۡزَوۡنَ مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٦
Shabbir Ahmed
Endure the heat herein. It is the same whether you bear it patiently or impatiently. This is only the built-in Requital of what you used to do
iṣ'lawhā fa-iṣ'birū aw lā taṣbirū sawāon ʿalaykum innamā tuj'zawna mā kuntum taʿmalūn
52:17 ›
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ فِی جَنَّـٰتࣲ وَنَعِیمࣲ ۝١٧
Shabbir Ahmed
Verily, those who lived upright, dwell in Gardens and in Bliss
inna l-mutaqīna fī jannātin wanaʿīmi
52:18 ›
فَـٰكِهِینَ بِمَاۤ ءَاتَىٰهُمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ وَوَقَىٰهُمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ عَذَابَ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ ۝١٨
Shabbir Ahmed
Delighted in what their Lord has bestowed upon them. And their Lord has guarded them against the torment of the blazing Fire
fākihīna bimā ātāhum rabbuhum wawaqāhum rabbuhum ʿadhāba l-jaḥīm
52:19 ›
كُلُوا۟ وَٱشۡرَبُوا۟ هَنِیۤءَۢا بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٩
Shabbir Ahmed
Enjoy life, eat and drink happily for what you used to do
kulū wa-ish'rabū hanīan bimā kuntum taʿmalūn
52:20 ›
مُتَّكِءِینَ عَلَىٰ سُرُرࣲ مَّصۡفُوفَةࣲۖ وَزَوَّجۡنَـٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِینࣲ ۝٢٠
Shabbir Ahmed
Relaxing on couches with beautiful interior decoration. And We will match them with neat companions, most beautiful of Vision
muttakiīna ʿalā sururin maṣfūfatin wazawwajnāhum biḥūrin ʿīni
52:21 ›
وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعَتۡهُمۡ ذُرِّیَّتُهُم بِإِیمَـٰنٍ أَلۡحَقۡنَا بِهِمۡ ذُرِّیَّتَهُمۡ وَمَاۤ أَلَتۡنَـٰهُم مِّنۡ عَمَلِهِم مِّن شَیۡءࣲۚ كُلُّ ٱمۡرِىِٕۭ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِینࣱ ۝٢١
Shabbir Ahmed
And they who attained belief, and whose children followed them in belief, We shall unite them with their children, and We shall not let any of their deeds go waste. Yet (as a rule) each person is held as a collateral against what he has earned. (The condition of every person will depend on his actions (74:38))
wa-alladhīna āmanū wa-ittabaʿathum dhurriyyatuhum biīmānin alḥaqnā bihim dhurriyyatahum wamā alatnāhum min ʿamalihim min shayin kullu im'ri-in bimā kasaba rahīnu
52:22 ›
وَأَمۡدَدۡنَـٰهُم بِفَـٰكِهَةࣲ وَلَحۡمࣲ مِّمَّا یَشۡتَهُونَ ۝٢٢
Shabbir Ahmed
And We shall bestow on them the fruits and the delicacies of their choice
wa-amdadnāhum bifākihatin walaḥmin mimmā yashtahūn
52:23 ›
یَتَنَـٰزَعُونَ فِیهَا كَأۡسࣰا لَّا لَغۡوࣱ فِیهَا وَلَا تَأۡثِیمࣱ ۝٢٣
Shabbir Ahmed
And therein they pass from hand to hand cups of delicious drinks that cause no idle talk nor a hangover. ('Ithm' = Pull down, drag down, hangover, harming personality, reducing human dignity or potential)
yatanāzaʿūna fīhā kasan lā laghwun fīhā walā tathīmu
52:24 ›
۞ وَیَطُوفُ عَلَیۡهِمۡ غِلۡمَانࣱ لَّهُمۡ كَأَنَّهُمۡ لُؤۡلُؤࣱ مَّكۡنُونࣱ ۝٢٤
Shabbir Ahmed
And their children like pearls, playful, happy around them. (13:23), (52:21), (59:17))
wayaṭūfu ʿalayhim ghil'mānun lahum ka-annahum lu'lu-on maknūnu
52:25 ›
وَأَقۡبَلَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲ یَتَسَاۤءَلُونَ ۝٢٥
Shabbir Ahmed
They will socialize and reminisce among themselves (recalling how they lived the previous life)
wa-aqbala baʿḍuhum ʿalā baʿḍin yatasāalūn
52:26 ›
قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّا كُنَّا قَبۡلُ فِیۤ أَهۡلِنَا مُشۡفِقِینَ ۝٢٦
Shabbir Ahmed
They will say, "Behold, We were kind and humble amidst our families."
qālū innā kunnā qablu fī ahlinā mush'fiqīn
52:27 ›
فَمَنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَیۡنَا وَوَقَىٰنَا عَذَابَ ٱلسَّمُومِ ۝٢٧
Shabbir Ahmed
So Allah has graced us and guarded us against the suffering of scorching winds of requital
famanna l-lahu ʿalaynā wawaqānā ʿadhāba l-samūm
52:28 ›
إِنَّا كُنَّا مِن قَبۡلُ نَدۡعُوهُۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلۡبَرُّ ٱلرَّحِیمُ ۝٢٨
Shabbir Ahmed
Verily, We used to call unto Him (seeking guidance from His Word alone). Behold, He is all Kind, all Merciful."
innā kunnā min qablu nadʿūhu innahu huwa l-baru l-raḥīm
2 Opponents are doomed
52:29 ›
فَذَكِّرۡ فَمَاۤ أَنتَ بِنِعۡمَتِ رَبِّكَ بِكَاهِنࣲ وَلَا مَجۡنُونٍ ۝٢٩
Shabbir Ahmed
Hence, (O Messenger) keep reminding, for, by the Grace of your Lord, you are neither a soothsayer nor a madman
fadhakkir famā anta biniʿ'mati rabbika bikāhinin walā majnūni
52:30 ›
أَمۡ یَقُولُونَ شَاعِرࣱ نَّتَرَبَّصُ بِهِۦ رَیۡبَ ٱلۡمَنُونِ ۝٣٠
Shabbir Ahmed
What! Do they say, "A poet? Let us wait how time handles him!"
am yaqūlūna shāʿirun natarabbaṣu bihi rayba l-manūn
52:31 ›
قُلۡ تَرَبَّصُوا۟ فَإِنِّی مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡمُتَرَبِّصِینَ ۝٣١
Shabbir Ahmed
Say to them, "Hope for what you hope for! Behold, I shall wait with you expecting what I expect."
qul tarabbaṣū fa-innī maʿakum mina l-mutarabiṣīn
52:32 ›
أَمۡ تَأۡمُرُهُمۡ أَحۡلَـٰمُهُم بِهَـٰذَاۤۚ أَمۡ هُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ طَاغُونَ ۝٣٢
Shabbir Ahmed
Do they behave like this because they would rather dream their lives through? Is this behavior really commanded by their intellect? Or is it that they are a people who wish to live without any moral bounds
am tamuruhum aḥlāmuhum bihādhā am hum qawmun ṭāghūn
52:33 ›
أَمۡ یَقُولُونَ تَقَوَّلَهُۥۚ بَل لَّا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٣٣
Shabbir Ahmed
Or do they say, "He himself has composed it?" Nay, they simply do not wish to believe. (The Message hits at their vested interests. Hence, so many contradictory blames)
am yaqūlūna taqawwalahu bal lā yu'minūn
52:34 ›
فَلۡیَأۡتُوا۟ بِحَدِیثࣲ مِّثۡلِهِۦۤ إِن كَانُوا۟ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝٣٤
Shabbir Ahmed
Then let them produce a Hadith like this if they are truthful. (2:23), (10:38), (11:13), (17:88))
falyatū biḥadīthin mith'lihi in kānū ṣādiqīn
52:35 ›
أَمۡ خُلِقُوا۟ مِنۡ غَیۡرِ شَیۡءٍ أَمۡ هُمُ ٱلۡخَـٰلِقُونَ ۝٣٥
Shabbir Ahmed
Are they a product of spontaneous generation? Or were they their own creators
am khuliqū min ghayri shayin am humu l-khāliqūn
52:36 ›
أَمۡ خَلَقُوا۟ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَۚ بَل لَّا یُوقِنُونَ ۝٣٦
Shabbir Ahmed
Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they have certainty about nothing
am khalaqū l-samāwāti wal-arḍa bal lā yūqinūn
52:37 ›
أَمۡ عِندَهُمۡ خَزَاۤىِٕنُ رَبِّكَ أَمۡ هُمُ ٱلۡمُصَۣیۡطِرُونَ ۝٣٧
Shabbir Ahmed
Do they possess the treasures of your Lord? Or are they in charge
am ʿindahum khazāinu rabbika am humu l-muṣayṭirūn
52:38 ›
أَمۡ لَهُمۡ سُلَّمࣱ یَسۡتَمِعُونَ فِیهِۖ فَلۡیَأۡتِ مُسۡتَمِعُهُم بِسُلۡطَـٰنࣲ مُّبِینٍ ۝٣٨
Shabbir Ahmed
Or do they have a stairway of knowledge to ascend to the Glorious Heights of Divine Revelation and listen directly to and come at par with it? Let, then, whoever has received a direct Revelation bring his proof
am lahum sullamun yastamiʿūna fīhi falyati mus'tamiʿuhum bisul'ṭānin mubīni
52:39 ›
أَمۡ لَهُ ٱلۡبَنَـٰتُ وَلَكُمُ ٱلۡبَنُونَ ۝٣٩
Shabbir Ahmed
(Such is their ignorance, yet their claims) What! He has daughters, whereas you would rather have only sons
am lahu l-banātu walakumu l-banūn
52:40 ›
أَمۡ تَسۡءَلُهُمۡ أَجۡرࣰا فَهُم مِّن مَّغۡرَمࣲ مُّثۡقَلُونَ ۝٤٠
Shabbir Ahmed
Or is it that you (O Prophet) ask a reward from them and thereby they are burdened with debt
am tasaluhum ajran fahum min maghramin muth'qalūn
52:41 ›
أَمۡ عِندَهُمُ ٱلۡغَیۡبُ فَهُمۡ یَكۡتُبُونَ ۝٤١
Shabbir Ahmed
Or do they know the future so that they have it written down
am ʿindahumu l-ghaybu fahum yaktubūn
52:42 ›
أَمۡ یُرِیدُونَ كَیۡدࣰاۖ فَٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلۡمَكِیدُونَ ۝٤٢
Shabbir Ahmed
Or do they intend a plot? But it is the deniers who are in fact entrapped. (In their spider web of falsehood)
am yurīdūna kaydan fa-alladhīna kafarū humu l-makīdūn
52:43 ›
أَمۡ لَهُمۡ إِلَـٰهٌ غَیۡرُ ٱللَّهِۚ سُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٤٣
Shabbir Ahmed
Or have they a god other than Allah? Glorified is Allah far above what they associate with Him
am lahum ilāhun ghayru l-lahi sub'ḥāna l-lahi ʿammā yush'rikūn
52:44 ›
وَإِن یَرَوۡا۟ كِسۡفࣰا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ سَاقِطࣰا یَقُولُوا۟ سَحَابࣱ مَّرۡكُومࣱ ۝٤٤
Shabbir Ahmed
Even if they were to see a fragment from the Height falling, they would say, "A dense cloud!" (Their lack of reasoning makes them oblivious to the Law of Requital (26:187))
wa-in yaraw kis'fan mina l-samāi sāqiṭan yaqūlū saḥābun markūmu
52:45 ›
فَذَرۡهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ یُلَـٰقُوا۟ یَوۡمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِی فِیهِ یُصۡعَقُونَ ۝٤٥
Shabbir Ahmed
Hence, leave them alone until they meet that Day of theirs wherein they shall be thunderstruck
fadharhum ḥattā yulāqū yawmahumu alladhī fīhi yuṣ'ʿaqūn
52:46 ›
یَوۡمَ لَا یُغۡنِی عَنۡهُمۡ كَیۡدُهُمۡ شَیۡءࣰا وَلَا هُمۡ یُنصَرُونَ ۝٤٦
Shabbir Ahmed
- The Day when none of their scheming will avail them, nor will they be helped
yawma lā yugh'nī ʿanhum kayduhum shayan walā hum yunṣarūn
52:47 ›
وَإِنَّ لِلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ عَذَابࣰا دُونَ ذَ ٰلِكَ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٤٧
Shabbir Ahmed
And verily, for oppressors, violators of human rights and those who relegate the Truth, there is a punishment beyond that. But most of them know not. (Their wrongdoing hurts their own "Self")
wa-inna lilladhīna ẓalamū ʿadhāban dūna dhālika walākinna aktharahum lā yaʿlamūn
52:48 ›
وَٱصۡبِرۡ لِحُكۡمِ رَبِّكَ فَإِنَّكَ بِأَعۡیُنِنَاۖ وَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّكَ حِینَ تَقُومُ ۝٤٨
Shabbir Ahmed
And so, (O Messenger) work patiently to establish the Rule of your Lord, for, behold, you are in Our eyes. Begin your day with a firm resolve and work to manifest the Praise of your Lord
wa-iṣ'bir liḥuk'mi rabbika fa-innaka bi-aʿyuninā wasabbiḥ biḥamdi rabbika ḥīna taqūm
52:49 ›
وَمِنَ ٱلَّیۡلِ فَسَبِّحۡهُ وَإِدۡبَـٰرَ ٱلنُّجُومِ ۝٤٩
Shabbir Ahmed
And even in the night-time do your best to manifest your Lord's Praise, and at the setting of the stars
wamina al-layli fasabbiḥ'hu wa-id'bāra l-nujūm
