1 Eminence attained by the Prophet
53:1 ›
وَٱلنَّجۡمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ ۝١
Shabbir Ahmed
Witness are the Stars that set along a course appointed. (They never misguide you. He Who commands them, commands the Messenger (6:98), (56:75). 'Wa' = And = Consider = Witness = For = By. 'Najm' is singular as well as plural in the form of a galaxy)
wal-najmi idhā haw
53:2 ›
مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمۡ وَمَا غَوَىٰ ۝٢
Shabbir Ahmed
Your honored companion is neither in error, nor is he misled
mā ḍalla ṣāḥibukum wamā ghaw
53:3 ›
وَمَا یَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلۡهَوَىٰۤ ۝٣
Shabbir Ahmed
Nor does he utter the Word out of his desire
wamā yanṭiqu ʿani l-haw
53:4 ›
إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحۡیࣱ یُوحَىٰ ۝٤
Shabbir Ahmed
This (Qur'an) is but a Revelation that is being revealed to him
in huwa illā waḥyun yūḥ
53:5 ›
عَلَّمَهُۥ شَدِیدُ ٱلۡقُوَىٰ ۝٥
Shabbir Ahmed
He has been taught by the One Mighty in Powers
dhū mirratin fa-is'taw
53:6 ›
ذُو مِرَّةࣲ فَٱسۡتَوَىٰ ۝٦
Shabbir Ahmed
The Owner of Authority and Wisdom established him (the Prophet)
Thoo mirratin faistawa
53:7 ›
وَهُوَ بِٱلۡأُفُقِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ ۝٧
Shabbir Ahmed
At the highest horizon, (81:23
wahuwa bil-ufuqi l-aʿl
53:8 ›
ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ ۝٨
Shabbir Ahmed
Of human wisdom and knowledge as he drew near and approached (the point where the human intellect comes to a halt)
thumma danā fatadall
53:9 ›
فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوۡسَیۡنِ أَوۡ أَدۡنَىٰ ۝٩
Shabbir Ahmed
Till he was but two bow-lengths away, or even closer. (The Divine Will and the will of the Messenger merged together, like the two of you join your bows as a bond of friendship (8:17))
fakāna qāba qawsayni aw adn
53:10 ›
فَأَوۡحَىٰۤ إِلَىٰ عَبۡدِهِۦ مَاۤ أَوۡحَىٰ ۝١٠
Shabbir Ahmed
And thus He revealed to His servant what He revealed
fa-awḥā ilā ʿabdihi mā awḥ
53:11 ›
مَا كَذَبَ ٱلۡفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰۤ ۝١١
Shabbir Ahmed
And never did he find contrary to reason what he learned. ((2:285), (6:164). 'Raa' = Saw, learned, observed, took to heart)
mā kadhaba l-fuādu mā ra
53:12 ›
أَفَتُمَـٰرُونَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَا یَرَىٰ ۝١٢
Shabbir Ahmed
Will you, then, contend with him concerning what he learned (and you have not)
afatumārūnahu ʿalā mā yar
53:13 ›
وَلَقَدۡ رَءَاهُ نَزۡلَةً أُخۡرَىٰ ۝١٣
Shabbir Ahmed
And indeed, he learned it again and yet again
walaqad raāhu nazlatan ukh'r
53:14 ›
عِندَ سِدۡرَةِ ٱلۡمُنتَهَىٰ ۝١٤
Shabbir Ahmed
At the Ultimate Mark ('Sidratil muntaha' = The last Lote-tree = The point where the human intellect is left with nothing but astonishment!
idh yaghshā l-sid'rata mā yaghsh
53:15 ›
عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ ٱلۡمَأۡوَىٰۤ ۝١٥
Shabbir Ahmed
Near unto the Garden of Abode. (The Revelation tells the Messenger how to establish a paradise on earth)
AAindaha jannatu alma/wa
53:16 ›
إِذۡ یَغۡشَى ٱلسِّدۡرَةَ مَا یَغۡشَىٰ ۝١٦
Shabbir Ahmed
Overwhelming is the spectacle at the overwhelming Ultimate Mark
Ith yaghsha alssidrata ma yaghsha
53:17 ›
مَا زَاغَ ٱلۡبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ ۝١٧
Shabbir Ahmed
Yet, his sight wavered not and wandered not
mā zāgha l-baṣaru wamā ṭagh
53:18 ›
لَقَدۡ رَأَىٰ مِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰۤ ۝١٨
Shabbir Ahmed
And indeed, he has seen the great Signs of his Lord. (The shackles of mental and physical bondage will be broken and humanity will come from darkness to Light (7:157), (17:1), (20:23-24))
laqad raā min āyāti rabbihi l-kub'r
53:19 ›
أَفَرَءَیۡتُمُ ٱللَّـٰتَ وَٱلۡعُزَّىٰ ۝١٩
Shabbir Ahmed
Have you seen and thought about Lat, and Uzza
afara-aytumu l-lāta wal-ʿuz
53:20 ›
وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰۤ ۝٢٠
Shabbir Ahmed
And Manat, the third other? (All three goddesses of yours)
wamanata l-thālithata l-ukh'r
53:21 ›
أَلَكُمُ ٱلذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ٱلۡأُنثَىٰ ۝٢١
Shabbir Ahmed
Why - for yourselves you would prefer only sons, whereas to Him you assign daughters
alakumu l-dhakaru walahu l-unth
53:22 ›
تِلۡكَ إِذࣰا قِسۡمَةࣱ ضِیزَىٰۤ ۝٢٢
Shabbir Ahmed
Behold, this indeed is an unfair division. (You worship female idols and resent having daughters)
til'ka idhan qis'matun ḍīz
53:23 ›
إِنۡ هِیَ إِلَّاۤ أَسۡمَاۤءࣱ سَمَّیۡتُمُوهَاۤ أَنتُمۡ وَءَابَاۤؤُكُم مَّاۤ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلۡطَـٰنٍۚ إِن یَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهۡوَى ٱلۡأَنفُسُۖ وَلَقَدۡ جَاۤءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلۡهُدَىٰۤ ۝٢٣
Shabbir Ahmed
They are but names that you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has revealed no authority. They follow nothing but conjecture and their own fancies. But now the Guidance from their Lord has come to them. (7:71-72)
in hiya illā asmāon sammaytumūhā antum waābāukum mā anzala l-lahu bihā min sul'ṭānin in yattabiʿūna illā l-ẓana wamā tahwā l-anfusu walaqad jāahum min rabbihimu l-hud
53:24 ›
أَمۡ لِلۡإِنسَـٰنِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ ۝٢٤
Shabbir Ahmed
Nay, should man get all that he covets and fancies
am lil'insāni mā tamann
53:25 ›
فَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةُ وَٱلۡأُولَىٰ ۝٢٥
Shabbir Ahmed
Even though unto Allah belong the later life and the former. (His are the Keys of the heavens and the earth (7:96), (28:77), (39:63), (41:10), (42:12))
falillahi l-ākhiratu wal-ūl
2 Nothing avails against Truth
53:26 ›
۞ وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكࣲ فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ لَا تُغۡنِی شَفَـٰعَتُهُمۡ شَیۡءًا إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ أَن یَأۡذَنَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَن یَشَاۤءُ وَیَرۡضَىٰۤ ۝٢٦
Shabbir Ahmed
And how many forces are in the Universe whose company avails not except whom Allah permits. This is so, because such a person works by His Laws and thus obtains His Approval. (Science can only be mastered by understanding the physical laws in Nature)
wakam min malakin fī l-samāwāti lā tugh'nī shafāʿatuhum shayan illā min baʿdi an yadhana l-lahu liman yashāu wayarḍ
53:27 ›
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ لَیُسَمُّونَ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةَ تَسۡمِیَةَ ٱلۡأُنثَىٰ ۝٢٧
Shabbir Ahmed
Behold, it is only those who do not believe in the life to come that consider the angels as female beings
inna alladhīna lā yu'minūna bil-ākhirati layusammūna l-malāikata tasmiyata l-unth
53:28 ›
وَمَا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنۡ عِلۡمٍۖ إِن یَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّۖ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا یُغۡنِی مِنَ ٱلۡحَقِّ شَیۡءࣰا ۝٢٨
Shabbir Ahmed
And since they do not learn the Law of Cause and Effect, they can follow nothing but guesswork. And behold, guesswork can never take the place of Truth. (6:149)
wamā lahum bihi min ʿil'min in yattabiʿūna illā l-ẓana wa-inna l-ẓana lā yugh'nī mina l-ḥaqi shaya
53:29 ›
فَأَعۡرِضۡ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكۡرِنَا وَلَمۡ یُرِدۡ إِلَّا ٱلۡحَیَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡیَا ۝٢٩
Shabbir Ahmed
Therefore, avoid him who turns away from Our Reminder and cares for no more than (the dogmas prevalent in) the life at hand
fa-aʿriḍ ʿan man tawallā ʿan dhik'rinā walam yurid illā l-ḥayata l-dun'y
53:30 ›
ذَ ٰلِكَ مَبۡلَغُهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡعِلۡمِۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِیلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱهۡتَدَىٰ ۝٣٠
Shabbir Ahmed
Such is the sum-total of their knowledge. Behold, your Lord knows best who strays from His Way, and He best knows who goes right
dhālika mablaghuhum mina l-ʿil'mi inna rabbaka huwa aʿlamu biman ḍalla ʿan sabīlihi wahuwa aʿlamu bimani ih'tad
53:31 ›
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَمَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ لِیَجۡزِیَ ٱلَّذِینَ أَسَـٰۤءُوا۟ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَیَجۡزِیَ ٱلَّذِینَ أَحۡسَنُوا۟ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَى ۝٣١
Shabbir Ahmed
And unto Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. (He has designed the Universe such that no action goes without a consequence). That He may requite those who destabilized lives, with their own deeds, and reward with goodness those who benefited humanity. (11:7), (45:22)
walillahi mā fī l-samāwāti wamā fī l-arḍi liyajziya alladhīna asāū bimā ʿamilū wayajziya alladhīna aḥsanū bil-ḥus'n
53:32 ›
ٱلَّذِینَ یَجۡتَنِبُونَ كَبَـٰۤىِٕرَ ٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَٱلۡفَوَ ٰحِشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّمَمَۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَ ٰسِعُ ٱلۡمَغۡفِرَةِۚ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِكُمۡ إِذۡ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَإِذۡ أَنتُمۡ أَجِنَّةࣱ فِی بُطُونِ أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمۡۖ فَلَا تُزَكُّوۤا۟ أَنفُسَكُمۡۖ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰۤ ۝٣٢
Shabbir Ahmed
Those who abstain from the greater transgressions that deplete the communal energy, and from shameful deeds and stinginess, even though they may sometimes waver, behold, your Lord is Immense in absolving their imperfections. He knows you best since He brings you into being from the earth, and when you were still hidden in the bellies of your mothers? Therefore, claim not piety for yourselves. He knows best as to who walks aright
alladhīna yajtanibūna kabāira l-ith'mi wal-fawāḥisha illā l-lamama inna rabbaka wāsiʿu l-maghfirati huwa aʿlamu bikum idh ansha-akum mina l-arḍi wa-idh antum ajinnatun fī buṭūni ummahātikum falā tuzakkū anfusakum huwa aʿlamu bimani ittaq
3 Allah's Power manifested
53:33 ›
أَفَرَءَیۡتَ ٱلَّذِی تَوَلَّىٰ ۝٣٣
Shabbir Ahmed
Have you, then, noticed him who turns away
afara-ayta alladhī tawall
53:34 ›
وَأَعۡطَىٰ قَلِیلࣰا وَأَكۡدَىٰۤ ۝٣٤
Shabbir Ahmed
And gives so little of himself, yet with a heavy heart
wa-aʿṭā qalīlan wa-akd
53:35 ›
أَعِندَهُۥ عِلۡمُ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ فَهُوَ یَرَىٰۤ ۝٣٥
Shabbir Ahmed
What! Does he have the knowledge of the innermost psyche that he sees unfolded before him
aʿindahu ʿil'mu l-ghaybi fahuwa yar
53:36 ›
أَمۡ لَمۡ یُنَبَّأۡ بِمَا فِی صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ ۝٣٦
Shabbir Ahmed
Nay, did he never hear of what was in the Scrolls of Moses
am lam yunabba bimā fī ṣuḥufi mūs
53:37 ›
وَإِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ ٱلَّذِی وَفَّىٰۤ ۝٣٧
Shabbir Ahmed
And of Abraham who fulfilled his obligations
wa-ib'rāhīma alladhī waff
53:38 ›
أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةࣱ وِزۡرَ أُخۡرَىٰ ۝٣٨
Shabbir Ahmed
- i That no laden one shall bear the load of another
allā taziru wāziratun wiz'ra ukh'r
53:39 ›
وَأَن لَّیۡسَ لِلۡإِنسَـٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ ۝٣٩
Shabbir Ahmed
- ii And that every human being shall be responsible for, and compensated for, his labor
wa-an laysa lil'insāni illā mā saʿ
53:40 ›
وَأَنَّ سَعۡیَهُۥ سَوۡفَ یُرَىٰ ۝٤٠
Shabbir Ahmed
- iii And that his effort (and not the outcome) will be seen
wa-anna saʿyahu sawfa yur
53:41 ›
ثُمَّ یُجۡزَىٰهُ ٱلۡجَزَاۤءَ ٱلۡأَوۡفَىٰ ۝٤١
Shabbir Ahmed
- iv And then he will be given the full wage
thumma yuj'zāhu l-jazāa l-awf
53:42 ›
وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡمُنتَهَىٰ ۝٤٢
Shabbir Ahmed
- v And that to your Lord is the final destination. (Your goal shall be the Lord's Rule on earth)
wa-anna ilā rabbika l-muntah
53:43 ›
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضۡحَكَ وَأَبۡكَىٰ ۝٤٣
Shabbir Ahmed
- vi And that He it is Who makes laugh, and makes weep. (Nations that establish His Rule will have inner happiness, whereas the others will be in misery)
wa-annahu huwa aḍḥaka wa-abk
53:44 ›
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحۡیَا ۝٤٤
Shabbir Ahmed
- vii And that He it is Who gives death and gives life. (The rise and fall of nations follow His Laws)
wa-annahu huwa amāta wa-aḥy
53:45 ›
وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوۡجَیۡنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰ ۝٤٥
Shabbir Ahmed
- viii And that He it is Who creates the two companions, the male and the female (pairs and opposites among His creation)
wa-annahu khalaqa l-zawjayni l-dhakara wal-unth
53:46 ›
مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ إِذَا تُمۡنَىٰ ۝٤٦
Shabbir Ahmed
From gametes that unite
min nuṭ'fatin idhā tum'n
53:47 ›
وَأَنَّ عَلَیۡهِ ٱلنَّشۡأَةَ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰ ۝٤٧
Shabbir Ahmed
- ix And that He has promised to bring about a second life (the ultimate accountability)
wa-anna ʿalayhi l-nashata l-ukh'r
53:48 ›
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغۡنَىٰ وَأَقۡنَىٰ ۝٤٨
Shabbir Ahmed
- x And that He it is Who gives wealth and contentment. (Only His Laws can bestow true prosperity)
wa-annahu huwa aghnā wa-aqn
53:49 ›
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلشِّعۡرَىٰ ۝٤٩
Shabbir Ahmed
- xi And that He it is Who is the Lord of the brightest star, the human intellect
wa-annahu huwa rabbu l-shiʿ'r
53:50 ›
وَأَنَّهُۥۤ أَهۡلَكَ عَادًا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ ۝٥٠
Shabbir Ahmed
- xii And that He it is Who annihilated the former tribe of Aad. (They were men of intellect but refused to establish the Divine System (7:65). A wrong system, however smartly run, is bound to collapse)
wa-annahu ahlaka ʿādan l-ūl
53:51 ›
وَثَمُودَا۟ فَمَاۤ أَبۡقَىٰ ۝٥١
Shabbir Ahmed
And the tribe of Thamud, sparing no one. (7:73)
wathamūdā famā abq
53:52 ›
وَقَوۡمَ نُوحࣲ مِّن قَبۡلُۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ هُمۡ أَظۡلَمَ وَأَطۡغَىٰ ۝٥٢
Shabbir Ahmed
And the people of Noah before them. Behold, they were even more unjust and more rebellious
waqawma nūḥin min qablu innahum kānū hum aẓlama wa-aṭgh
53:53 ›
وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَةَ أَهۡوَىٰ ۝٥٣
Shabbir Ahmed
And His Law of Requital annihilated the cities such that they were overthrown
wal-mu'tafikata ahw
53:54 ›
فَغَشَّىٰهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ ۝٥٤
Shabbir Ahmed
So that there covered each of them what covered them. (Sodom and Gomorrah buried under the Dead Sea. Also applies to other townships covered with Doom.
faghashāhā mā ghash
53:55 ›
فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ ۝٥٥
Shabbir Ahmed
Then, which facet of your Lord's Power will you doubt or deny
fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbika tatamār
53:56 ›
هَـٰذَا نَذِیرࣱ مِّنَ ٱلنُّذُرِ ٱلۡأُولَىٰۤ ۝٥٦
Shabbir Ahmed
This Prophet is a Warner like the previous Warners
hādhā nadhīrun mina l-nudhuri l-ūl
53:57 ›
أَزِفَتِ ٱلۡءَازِفَةُ ۝٥٧
Shabbir Ahmed
The Inevitable is now imminent. (The opponents of the Divine System will soon be subdued.
azifati l-āzifat
53:58 ›
لَیۡسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ ۝٥٨
Shabbir Ahmed
None but Allah can dispel it. (Stop attacking the System.
laysa lahā min dūni l-lahi kāshifatu
53:59 ›
أَفَمِنۡ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِیثِ تَعۡجَبُونَ ۝٥٩
Shabbir Ahmed
Do you, then, marvel at this statement
afamin hādhā l-ḥadīthi taʿjabūn
53:60 ›
وَتَضۡحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبۡكُونَ ۝٦٠
Shabbir Ahmed
And will you laugh and not weep
wataḍḥakūna walā tabkūn
53:61 ›
وَأَنتُمۡ سَـٰمِدُونَ ۝٦١
Shabbir Ahmed
Just amusing yourselves
wa-antum sāmidūn
53:62 ›
فَ̅ٱ̅سۡ̅جُ̅دُ̅و̅ا۟̅ لِلَّهِ وَٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ۝٦٢ ۩
Shabbir Ahmed
Nay, rather prostrate yourselves before Allah and serve Him
fa-us'judū lillahi wa-uʿ'bud
