The Star — Amatul Rahman Omar Translation

(The Lord) Whose powers become manifest in manifold and frequent ways, with the result that he (- this Messenger of God) attained perfection and fullest vigour (both intellectually and physically)

Thoo mirratin faistawa

53:7

وَهُوَ بِٱلۡأُفُقِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ ۝٧

Amatul Rahman Omar

And he attained to the zenith of heights (in his spiritual ascension)

wahuwa bil-ufuqi l-aʿl

53:8

ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ ۝٨

Amatul Rahman Omar

Then he drew near to Him and afterwards he descended (to mankind, for their guidance)

thumma danā fatadall

53:9

فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوۡسَیۡنِ أَوۡ أَدۡنَىٰ ۝٩

Amatul Rahman Omar

So that he became (as it were) one chord to two bows or closer still

fakāna qāba qawsayni aw adn

53:10

فَأَوۡحَىٰۤ إِلَىٰ عَبۡدِهِۦ مَاۤ أَوۡحَىٰ ۝١٠

Amatul Rahman Omar

Then He revealed that excellent and mighty (Qur'anic) revelation which He had to send to His servant (Muhammad)

fa-awḥā ilā ʿabdihi mā awḥ

53:11

مَا كَذَبَ ٱلۡفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰۤ ۝١١

Amatul Rahman Omar

Whose mind made no mistake in (the interpretation of) that which he saw (during the ascansion)

mā kadhaba l-fuādu mā ra

53:12

أَفَتُمَـٰرُونَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَا یَرَىٰ ۝١٢

Amatul Rahman Omar

Will you doubt and dispute with him concerning that (sight) which he saw with his own eyes (it being no figment of imagination)

afatumārūnahu ʿalā mā yar

53:13

وَلَقَدۡ رَءَاهُ نَزۡلَةً أُخۡرَىٰ ۝١٣

Amatul Rahman Omar

And, of course, he saw Him (in His another manifestation to him) yet another time

walaqad raāhu nazlatan ukh'r

53:14

عِندَ سِدۡرَةِ ٱلۡمُنتَهَىٰ ۝١٤

Amatul Rahman Omar

It was near the Sidrah which stands at the farthest end (of knowledge)

idh yaghshā l-sid'rata mā yaghsh

53:15

عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ ٱلۡمَأۡوَىٰۤ ۝١٥

Amatul Rahman Omar

Near where also is the Garden which is the real eternal abode

AAindaha jannatu alma/wa

53:16

إِذۡ یَغۡشَى ٱلسِّدۡرَةَ مَا یَغۡشَىٰ ۝١٦

Amatul Rahman Omar

(This was) when the sublime thing (- the Divine Manifestation) which was to cover Sidrah had covered it

Ith yaghsha alssidrata ma yaghsha

53:17

مَا زَاغَ ٱلۡبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ ۝١٧

Amatul Rahman Omar

(When he saw the Divine Manifestation) his eye deviated not (from the certainty of the Truth) nor did it wander away (from the invincible faith on which he stood)

mā zāgha l-baṣaru wamā ṭagh

53:18

لَقَدۡ رَأَىٰ مِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰۤ ۝١٨

Amatul Rahman Omar

(It was the moment when) he saw the greatly important signs of his Lord

laqad raā min āyāti rabbihi l-kub'r

53:19

أَفَرَءَیۡتُمُ ٱللَّـٰتَ وَٱلۡعُزَّىٰ ۝١٩

Amatul Rahman Omar

Have you had a look at Lat and `Uzza (the gods of idolaters)

afara-aytumu l-lāta wal-ʿuz

53:20

وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰۤ ۝٢٠

Amatul Rahman Omar

And another, the third (goddess of no account) Manat

wamanata l-thālithata l-ukh'r

53:21

أَلَكُمُ ٱلذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ٱلۡأُنثَىٰ ۝٢١

Amatul Rahman Omar

What (an ignoble idea you have)! Are you to have sons and He daughters

alakumu l-dhakaru walahu l-unth

53:22

تِلۡكَ إِذࣰا قِسۡمَةࣱ ضِیزَىٰۤ ۝٢٢

Amatul Rahman Omar

That indeed is an unjust division (and unbecoming from your own point of view which looks upon the birth of a daughter with condemnation)

til'ka idhan qis'matun ḍīz

53:23

إِنۡ هِیَ إِلَّاۤ أَسۡمَاۤءࣱ سَمَّیۡتُمُوهَاۤ أَنتُمۡ وَءَابَاۤؤُكُم مَّاۤ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلۡطَـٰنٍۚ إِن یَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهۡوَى ٱلۡأَنفُسُۖ وَلَقَدۡ جَاۤءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلۡهُدَىٰۤ ۝٢٣

Amatul Rahman Omar

(The fact is that) these are mere names (bearing no significance) which you have coined, you and your forefathers, for which Allah has revealed no authority (for their being worshipped as gods and goddesses). These (idol-worshippers) follow nothing but mere conjectures and the fancies of (their own) minds. (They do this) even though true guidance has already come to them from their Lord

in hiya illā asmāon sammaytumūhā antum waābāukum mā anzala l-lahu bihā min sul'ṭānin in yattabiʿūna illā l-ẓana wamā tahwā l-anfusu walaqad jāahum min rabbihimu l-hud

53:24

أَمۡ لِلۡإِنسَـٰنِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ ۝٢٤

Amatul Rahman Omar

Can a person always have whatever he desires

am lil'insāni mā tamann

53:25

فَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةُ وَٱلۡأُولَىٰ ۝٢٥

Amatul Rahman Omar

Rather (all the blessings of) the Hereafter as well as (those of) this present life belong to Allah

falillahi l-ākhiratu wal-ūl

53:26

۞ وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكࣲ فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ لَا تُغۡنِی شَفَـٰعَتُهُمۡ شَیۡءًا إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ أَن یَأۡذَنَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَن یَشَاۤءُ وَیَرۡضَىٰۤ ۝٢٦

Amatul Rahman Omar

Behold! so many an angel is there in the heavens but their intercession can be of no avail except after Allah has given (them) permission regarding him whom He wills and with whom He is pleased

wakam min malakin fī l-samāwāti lā tugh'nī shafāʿatuhum shayan illā min baʿdi an yadhana l-lahu liman yashāu wayarḍ

53:27

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ لَیُسَمُّونَ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةَ تَسۡمِیَةَ ٱلۡأُنثَىٰ ۝٢٧

Amatul Rahman Omar

(Verily, it is only) those who do not believe in the Hereafter and (who) give feminine names to the angels (because they ascribe them to Allah as His daughters)

inna alladhīna lā yu'minūna bil-ākhirati layusammūna l-malāikata tasmiyata l-unth

53:28

وَمَا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنۡ عِلۡمٍۖ إِن یَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّۖ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا یُغۡنِی مِنَ ٱلۡحَقِّ شَیۡءࣰا ۝٢٨

Amatul Rahman Omar

But they have no knowledge of the matter. They follow nothing but conjecture, yet by no means can a conjecture be a substitute for the established Truth

wamā lahum bihi min ʿil'min in yattabiʿūna illā l-ẓana wa-inna l-ẓana lā yugh'nī mina l-ḥaqi shaya

53:29

فَأَعۡرِضۡ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكۡرِنَا وَلَمۡ یُرِدۡ إِلَّا ٱلۡحَیَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡیَا ۝٢٩

Amatul Rahman Omar

So turn aside from him who turns away from Our remembrance, and seeks nothing but the present life

fa-aʿriḍ ʿan man tawallā ʿan dhik'rinā walam yurid illā l-ḥayata l-dun'y

53:30

ذَ ٰلِكَ مَبۡلَغُهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡعِلۡمِۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِیلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱهۡتَدَىٰ ۝٣٠

Amatul Rahman Omar

That is the highest attainment of their knowledge. Verily, your Lord knows very well those who go astray from His path, as He knows very well those who follow the right guidance

dhālika mablaghuhum mina l-ʿil'mi inna rabbaka huwa aʿlamu biman ḍalla ʿan sabīlihi wahuwa aʿlamu bimani ih'tad

53:31

وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَمَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ لِیَجۡزِیَ ٱلَّذِینَ أَسَـٰۤءُوا۟ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَیَجۡزِیَ ٱلَّذِینَ أَحۡسَنُوا۟ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَى ۝٣١

Amatul Rahman Omar

And all that lies in the heavens and all that lies in the earth belongs to Allah alone. The result of this is that He recompenses the evil doers according to (the evil of) their deeds and rewards those who do good deeds with the fairest reward

walillahi mā fī l-samāwāti wamā fī l-arḍi liyajziya alladhīna asāū bimā ʿamilū wayajziya alladhīna aḥsanū bil-ḥus'n

53:32

ٱلَّذِینَ یَجۡتَنِبُونَ كَبَـٰۤىِٕرَ ٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَٱلۡفَوَ ٰحِشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّمَمَۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَ ٰسِعُ ٱلۡمَغۡفِرَةِۚ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِكُمۡ إِذۡ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَإِذۡ أَنتُمۡ أَجِنَّةࣱ فِی بُطُونِ أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمۡۖ فَلَا تُزَكُّوۤا۟ أَنفُسَكُمۡۖ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰۤ ۝٣٢

Amatul Rahman Omar

Those who avoid grave sins and open shameful deeds but (who are sometimes guilty) only (of) minor offences (will find) your Lord is Lord of immense protection (and resorts to His mercy in such cases). He knows you full well (since) when He created you from the earth and when you were embryos in the wombs of your mothers. So make no pretensions to the purity of your souls. It is He Who knows best who (truly and fully) guards against evil

alladhīna yajtanibūna kabāira l-ith'mi wal-fawāḥisha illā l-lamama inna rabbaka wāsiʿu l-maghfirati huwa aʿlamu bikum idh ansha-akum mina l-arḍi wa-idh antum ajinnatun fī buṭūni ummahātikum falā tuzakkū anfusakum huwa aʿlamu bimani ittaq

53:33

أَفَرَءَیۡتَ ٱلَّذِی تَوَلَّىٰ ۝٣٣

Amatul Rahman Omar

Have you taken notice of the one who turns away (from guidance)

afara-ayta alladhī tawall

53:34

وَأَعۡطَىٰ قَلِیلࣰا وَأَكۡدَىٰۤ ۝٣٤

Amatul Rahman Omar

And gives but a little (in the cause of Allah) and does it grudgingly

wa-aʿṭā qalīlan wa-akd

53:35

أَعِندَهُۥ عِلۡمُ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ فَهُوَ یَرَىٰۤ ۝٣٥

Amatul Rahman Omar

Has he the knowledge of the unseen so that he can see (his own future)

aʿindahu ʿil'mu l-ghaybi fahuwa yar

53:36

أَمۡ لَمۡ یُنَبَّأۡ بِمَا فِی صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ ۝٣٦

Amatul Rahman Omar

Has he not been informed of the contents of the Scriptures of Moses

am lam yunabba bimā fī ṣuḥufi mūs

53:37

وَإِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ ٱلَّذِی وَفَّىٰۤ ۝٣٧

Amatul Rahman Omar

And (those of) Abraham who thoroughly and faithfully fulfilled (the commandments of his Lord)

wa-ib'rāhīma alladhī waff

53:38

أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةࣱ وِزۡرَ أُخۡرَىٰ ۝٣٨

Amatul Rahman Omar

(The Scriptures say that) no soul that bears a burden shall bear the burden of another (soul)

allā taziru wāziratun wiz'ra ukh'r

53:39

وَأَن لَّیۡسَ لِلۡإِنسَـٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ ۝٣٩

Amatul Rahman Omar

And that a human being will have (to his account) what he strives for

wa-an laysa lil'insāni illā mā saʿ

53:40

وَأَنَّ سَعۡیَهُۥ سَوۡفَ یُرَىٰ ۝٤٠

Amatul Rahman Omar

And that his strivings shall necessarily be seen (and evaluated)

wa-anna saʿyahu sawfa yur

53:41

ثُمَّ یُجۡزَىٰهُ ٱلۡجَزَاۤءَ ٱلۡأَوۡفَىٰ ۝٤١

Amatul Rahman Omar

Then will he be recompensed fully and fairly

thumma yuj'zāhu l-jazāa l-awf

53:42

وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡمُنتَهَىٰ ۝٤٢

Amatul Rahman Omar

And that to your Lord is the eventual return

wa-anna ilā rabbika l-muntah

53:43

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضۡحَكَ وَأَبۡكَىٰ ۝٤٣

Amatul Rahman Omar

And that it is He alone Who makes people laugh and weep

wa-annahu huwa aḍḥaka wa-abk

53:44

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحۡیَا ۝٤٤

Amatul Rahman Omar

And that it is He alone Who causes death and brings to life

wa-annahu huwa amāta wa-aḥy

53:45

وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوۡجَیۡنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰ ۝٤٥

Amatul Rahman Omar

And that He Himself created the two species - male and female

wa-annahu khalaqa l-zawjayni l-dhakara wal-unth

53:46

مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ إِذَا تُمۡنَىٰ ۝٤٦

Amatul Rahman Omar

From a sperm-drop when it is emitted

min nuṭ'fatin idhā tum'n

53:47

وَأَنَّ عَلَیۡهِ ٱلنَّشۡأَةَ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰ ۝٤٧

Amatul Rahman Omar

That it is He upon whom rests the raising (of the dead) again to life

wa-anna ʿalayhi l-nashata l-ukh'r

53:48

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغۡنَىٰ وَأَقۡنَىٰ ۝٤٨

Amatul Rahman Omar

And that it is He Who fulfills the needs and endows (the gift of) capital contentment, and grants wealth

wa-annahu huwa aghnā wa-aqn

53:49

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلشِّعۡرَىٰ ۝٤٩

Amatul Rahman Omar

And that it is He Who is the Lord of Sirius (- a star worshipped by some polytheists)

wa-annahu huwa rabbu l-shiʿ'r

53:50

وَأَنَّهُۥۤ أَهۡلَكَ عَادًا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ ۝٥٠

Amatul Rahman Omar

And that He destroyed the ancient (tribe of) `ad

wa-annahu ahlaka ʿādan l-ūl

53:51

وَثَمُودَا۟ فَمَاۤ أَبۡقَىٰ ۝٥١

Amatul Rahman Omar

And (the tribe of) Thamud, so that He spared not a single soul of them

wathamūdā famā abq

53:52

وَقَوۡمَ نُوحࣲ مِّن قَبۡلُۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ هُمۡ أَظۡلَمَ وَأَطۡغَىٰ ۝٥٢

Amatul Rahman Omar

And (He destroyed) the people of Noah before (them). They were extremely wicked and most rebellious

waqawma nūḥin min qablu innahum kānū hum aẓlama wa-aṭgh

53:53

وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَةَ أَهۡوَىٰ ۝٥٣

Amatul Rahman Omar

And (that it is He) Who totally pulled down the subverted cities (- Sodom and Gomorrah of the people of Lot)

wal-mu'tafikata ahw

53:54

فَغَشَّىٰهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ ۝٥٤

Amatul Rahman Omar

So they were completely covered with that which overwhelms (when the punishment befalls)

faghashāhā mā ghash

53:55

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ ۝٥٥

Amatul Rahman Omar

(O human being!) which of the bounties of your Lord will you then doubt and dispute

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbika tatamār

53:56

هَـٰذَا نَذِیرࣱ مِّنَ ٱلنُّذُرِ ٱلۡأُولَىٰۤ ۝٥٦

Amatul Rahman Omar

This (Prophet) is a Warner (towards all the peoples of the worlds) from among the (series of) Warners (to one particular people) of old

hādhā nadhīrun mina l-nudhuri l-ūl

53:57

أَزِفَتِ ٱلۡءَازِفَةُ ۝٥٧

Amatul Rahman Omar

(The Hour of punishment) that was (promised) to come has drawn nigh

azifati l-āzifat

53:58

لَیۡسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ ۝٥٨

Amatul Rahman Omar

None can avert this (doom) besides Allah

laysa lahā min dūni l-lahi kāshifatu

53:59

أَفَمِنۡ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِیثِ تَعۡجَبُونَ ۝٥٩

Amatul Rahman Omar

Do you then wonder at this announcement (and yet pay no heed to it)

afamin hādhā l-ḥadīthi taʿjabūn

53:60

وَتَضۡحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبۡكُونَ ۝٦٠

Amatul Rahman Omar

(For on hearing the mention of the Hour of punishment) you laugh rather than weep

wataḍḥakūna walā tabkūn

53:61

وَأَنتُمۡ سَـٰمِدُونَ ۝٦١

Amatul Rahman Omar

And you remain proudly heedless and haughty

wa-antum sāmidūn

53:62

فَ̅ٱ̅سۡ̅جُ̅دُ̅و̅ا۟̅ لِلَّهِ وَٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ۝٦٢ ۩

Amatul Rahman Omar

You should better prostrate yourselves before Allah and worship (Him). [Prostration]

fa-us'judū lillahi wa-uʿ'bud
