The Star — Abdul Hye Translation – Parallel Quran

1 Eminence attained by the Prophet

وَٱلنَّجۡمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ ۝١

By the star when it goes down (vanishes),

wal-najmi idhā haw

مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمۡ وَمَا غَوَىٰ ۝٢

your companion (Muhammad) has neither gone astray nor misguided,

mā ḍalla ṣāḥibukum wamā ghaw

وَمَا یَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلۡهَوَىٰۤ ۝٣

nor does he speak of (his own) desire.

wamā yanṭiqu ʿani l-haw

إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحۡیࣱ یُوحَىٰ ۝٤

It is only a revelation that is revealed.

in huwa illā waḥyun yūḥ

عَلَّمَهُۥ شَدِیدُ ٱلۡقُوَىٰ ۝٥

He (Muhammad) has been taught (this Qur’an) by one mighty in power (angel Gabriel);

dhū mirratin fa-is'taw

ذُو مِرَّةࣲ فَٱسۡتَوَىٰ ۝٦

the one free from any defect who rose and became stable (in view).

Thoo mirratin faistawa

وَهُوَ بِٱلۡأُفُقِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ ۝٧

While he (Gabriel) was in the highest part of the horizon,

wahuwa bil-ufuqi l-aʿl

ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ ۝٨

then he (Gabriel) approached and came closer

thumma danā fatadall

فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوۡسَیۡنِ أَوۡ أَدۡنَىٰ ۝٩

and was at a distance of 2 bow’s length or even closer,

fakāna qāba qawsayni aw adn

فَأَوۡحَىٰۤ إِلَىٰ عَبۡدِهِۦ مَاۤ أَوۡحَىٰ ۝١٠

so he (Gabriel) conveyed the revelation to His servant (Muhammad) what he was supposed to reveal.

fa-awḥā ilā ʿabdihi mā awḥ

مَا كَذَبَ ٱلۡفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰۤ ۝١١

(The prophet’s) heart did not deny what he (Muhammad) saw.

mā kadhaba l-fuādu mā ra

أَفَتُمَـٰرُونَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَا یَرَىٰ ۝١٢

Will you (disbelievers) then dispute with him (Muhammad) about what he saw (during his ascent journey over the 7 heavens)?

afatumārūnahu ʿalā mā yar

وَلَقَدۡ رَءَاهُ نَزۡلَةً أُخۡرَىٰ ۝١٣

Indeed he (Muhammad) saw him (Gabriel) another descent tim

walaqad raāhu nazlatan ukh'r

عِندَ سِدۡرَةِ ٱلۡمُنتَهَىٰ ۝١٤

near Sidra-tul-Muntaha (the lote-tree at the farthest end of the 7th heavens, beyond which none can cross).

idh yaghshā l-sid'rata mā yaghsh

عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ ٱلۡمَأۡوَىٰۤ ۝١٥

Near it is Jannatul-M’awa (the rest-house of Paradise).

AAindaha jannatu alma/wa

إِذۡ یَغۡشَى ٱلسِّدۡرَةَ مَا یَغۡشَىٰ ۝١٦

When that lote-tree was covered with what covered it,

Ith yaghsha alssidrata ma yaghsha

مَا زَاغَ ٱلۡبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ ۝١٧

the sight (of Muhammad) did not turn aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond limit

mā zāgha l-baṣaru wamā ṭagh

لَقَدۡ رَأَىٰ مِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰۤ ۝١٨

Indeed he (Muhammad) did see some of the greatest signs of his Lord.

laqad raā min āyāti rabbihi l-kub'r

أَفَرَءَیۡتُمُ ٱللَّـٰتَ وَٱلۡعُزَّىٰ ۝١٩

Have you then considered Lat, Uzza (2 idols of the pagan Arabs)

afara-aytumu l-lāta wal-ʿuz

وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰۤ ۝٢٠

and another idol (Manat of the pagan Arabs), the other 3rd (as the daughters of Allah)?

wamanata l-thālithata l-ukh'r

أَلَكُمُ ٱلذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ٱلۡأُنثَىٰ ۝٢١

Is it for you the sons and for Him the daughters?

alakumu l-dhakaru walahu l-unth

تِلۡكَ إِذࣰا قِسۡمَةࣱ ضِیزَىٰۤ ۝٢٢

This indeed is a division most unfair!

til'ka idhan qis'matun ḍīz

إِنۡ هِیَ إِلَّاۤ أَسۡمَاۤءࣱ سَمَّیۡتُمُوهَاۤ أَنتُمۡ وَءَابَاۤؤُكُم مَّاۤ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلۡطَـٰنٍۚ إِن یَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهۡوَى ٱلۡأَنفُسُۖ وَلَقَدۡ جَاۤءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلۡهُدَىٰۤ ۝٢٣

They (Lat, Uzza, Manat) are nothing but names which you and your forefathers have named, for Allah has not sent down any authority in them. They (disbelievers) follow nothing but a guess which is their soul’s desire, even though the guidance has come to them from their Lord.

in hiya illā asmāon sammaytumūhā antum waābāukum mā anzala l-lahu bihā min sul'ṭānin in yattabiʿūna illā l-ẓana wamā tahwā l-anfusu walaqad jāahum min rabbihimu l-hud

أَمۡ لِلۡإِنسَـٰنِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ ۝٢٤

Or should human have whatever he wishes?

am lil'insāni mā tamann

فَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةُ وَٱلۡأُولَىٰ ۝٢٥

But to Allah belong the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world).

falillahi l-ākhiratu wal-ūl

2 Nothing avails against Truth

۞ وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكࣲ فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ لَا تُغۡنِی شَفَـٰعَتُهُمۡ شَیۡءًا إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ أَن یَأۡذَنَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَن یَشَاۤءُ وَیَرۡضَىٰۤ ۝٢٦

How many angels are there in the heavens; yet their intercession can avail nothing except what Allah gives permission for whom He wills and pleases.

wakam min malakin fī l-samāwāti lā tugh'nī shafāʿatuhum shayan illā min baʿdi an yadhana l-lahu liman yashāu wayarḍ

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ لَیُسَمُّونَ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةَ تَسۡمِیَةَ ٱلۡأُنثَىٰ ۝٢٧

Surely those who don’t believe in the Hereafter, name the angels with female names.

inna alladhīna lā yu'minūna bil-ākhirati layusammūna l-malāikata tasmiyata l-unth

وَمَا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنۡ عِلۡمٍۖ إِن یَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّۖ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا یُغۡنِی مِنَ ٱلۡحَقِّ شَیۡءࣰا ۝٢٨

But they have no knowledge of it. They follow but a guess; and surely guess does not substitute for the truth at all.

wamā lahum bihi min ʿil'min in yattabiʿūna illā l-ẓana wa-inna l-ẓana lā yugh'nī mina l-ḥaqi shaya

فَأَعۡرِضۡ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكۡرِنَا وَلَمۡ یُرِدۡ إِلَّا ٱلۡحَیَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡیَا ۝٢٩

Therefore, withdraw (O Muhammad) from those who turn away from Our reminder (this Qur’an) and they only desire the life of this world.

fa-aʿriḍ ʿan man tawallā ʿan dhik'rinā walam yurid illā l-ḥayata l-dun'y

ذَ ٰلِكَ مَبۡلَغُهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡعِلۡمِۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِیلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱهۡتَدَىٰ ۝٣٠

This is their highest point of knowledge. Surely, your Lord is He Who knows those best who go astray from His Way, and He knows those best who receive guidance.

dhālika mablaghuhum mina l-ʿil'mi inna rabbaka huwa aʿlamu biman ḍalla ʿan sabīlihi wahuwa aʿlamu bimani ih'tad

وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَمَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ لِیَجۡزِیَ ٱلَّذِینَ أَسَـٰۤءُوا۟ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَیَجۡزِیَ ٱلَّذِینَ أَحۡسَنُوا۟ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَى ۝٣١

And to Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth, so that He may requite those who do evil with what they have done (punish them in hell), and reward those who do good with what is best (Paradise).

walillahi mā fī l-samāwāti wamā fī l-arḍi liyajziya alladhīna asāū bimā ʿamilū wayajziya alladhīna aḥsanū bil-ḥus'n

ٱلَّذِینَ یَجۡتَنِبُونَ كَبَـٰۤىِٕرَ ٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَٱلۡفَوَ ٰحِشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّمَمَۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَ ٰسِعُ ٱلۡمَغۡفِرَةِۚ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِكُمۡ إِذۡ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَإِذۡ أَنتُمۡ أَجِنَّةࣱ فِی بُطُونِ أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمۡۖ فَلَا تُزَكُّوۤا۟ أَنفُسَكُمۡۖ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰۤ ۝٣٢

Those who avoid major sins and shameful deeds except the small faults; surely, for them your Lord will have abundant forgiveness. He knew you well when He created you from the earth and when you were fetuses in your mother’s wombs. So don’t scribe piety to yourselves. He knows best who fears (Him)

alladhīna yajtanibūna kabāira l-ith'mi wal-fawāḥisha illā l-lamama inna rabbaka wāsiʿu l-maghfirati huwa aʿlamu bikum idh ansha-akum mina l-arḍi wa-idh antum ajinnatun fī buṭūni ummahātikum falā tuzakkū anfusakum huwa aʿlamu bimani ittaq

3 Allah's Power manifested

أَفَرَءَیۡتَ ٱلَّذِی تَوَلَّىٰ ۝٣٣

Have you (O Muhammad) seen the one who (Waleed bin Mugheerah, who wanted to accept Islam but someone Promised him to take the punishment on his behalf for certain amount of money, he) turned away (from Islam)

afara-ayta alladhī tawall

وَأَعۡطَىٰ قَلِیلࣰا وَأَكۡدَىٰۤ ۝٣٤

He gave a little (amount of money), then he stopped (giving).

wa-aʿṭā qalīlan wa-akd

أَعِندَهُۥ عِلۡمُ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ فَهُوَ یَرَىٰۤ ۝٣٥

Does he has the knowledge of the unseen so that he sees (the reality)?

aʿindahu ʿil'mu l-ghaybi fahuwa yar

أَمۡ لَمۡ یُنَبَّأۡ بِمَا فِی صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ ۝٣٦

Or has he not been informed about what was in the pages (Scripture) of Moses,

am lam yunabba bimā fī ṣuḥufi mūs

وَإِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ ٱلَّذِی وَفَّىٰۤ ۝٣٧

and of Abraham who fulfilled (his covenant):

wa-ib'rāhīma alladhī waff

أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةࣱ وِزۡرَ أُخۡرَىٰ ۝٣٨

“That no burdened person (with sins) shall bear the burden of another,

allā taziru wāziratun wiz'ra ukh'r

وَأَن لَّیۡسَ لِلۡإِنسَـٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ ۝٣٩

that a human can have nothing except what he strives for,

wa-an laysa lil'insāni illā mā saʿ

وَأَنَّ سَعۡیَهُۥ سَوۡفَ یُرَىٰ ۝٤٠

that one’s efforts will be seen (checked),

wa-anna saʿyahu sawfa yur

ثُمَّ یُجۡزَىٰهُ ٱلۡجَزَاۤءَ ٱلۡأَوۡفَىٰ ۝٤١

that one will be fully recompensed and the best recompense,

thumma yuj'zāhu l-jazāa l-awf

وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡمُنتَهَىٰ ۝٤٢

that to your Lord is the end,

wa-anna ilā rabbika l-muntah

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضۡحَكَ وَأَبۡكَىٰ ۝٤٣

that it is He Who makes laugh and makes weep,

wa-annahu huwa aḍḥaka wa-abk

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحۡیَا ۝٤٤

that it is He Who causes death and gives life,

wa-annahu huwa amāta wa-aḥy

وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوۡجَیۡنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰ ۝٤٥

that it is He Who created in pairs, the male and the female,

wa-annahu khalaqa l-zawjayni l-dhakara wal-unth

مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ إِذَا تُمۡنَىٰ ۝٤٦

from a drop of semen when it is emitted,

min nuṭ'fatin idhā tum'n

وَأَنَّ عَلَیۡهِ ٱلنَّشۡأَةَ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰ ۝٤٧

that it is upon Him to grant another life (Resurrection),

wa-anna ʿalayhi l-nashata l-ukh'r

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغۡنَىٰ وَأَقۡنَىٰ ۝٤٨

that it is He Who gives much or little (of wealth and contentment),

wa-annahu huwa aghnā wa-aqn

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلشِّعۡرَىٰ ۝٤٩

that it is He the Lord of Sirius (the star whom the pagan Arabs used to worship),

wa-annahu huwa rabbu l-shiʿ'r

وَأَنَّهُۥۤ أَهۡلَكَ عَادًا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ ۝٥٠

and that it is He Who destroyed the former Ad (people),

wa-annahu ahlaka ʿādan l-ūl

وَثَمُودَا۟ فَمَاۤ أَبۡقَىٰ ۝٥١

and Thamud (people). So He spared none,

wathamūdā famā abq

وَقَوۡمَ نُوحࣲ مِّن قَبۡلُۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ هُمۡ أَظۡلَمَ وَأَطۡغَىٰ ۝٥٢

and the people of Noah previously, surely they were more unjust and more rebellious and transgressing.

waqawma nūḥin min qablu innahum kānū hum aẓlama wa-aṭgh

وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَةَ أَهۡوَىٰ ۝٥٣

And He destroyed the overthrown cities (of Sodom and Gomorrah during prophet Lot),

wal-mu'tafikata ahw

فَغَشَّىٰهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ ۝٥٤

who were covered by (the punishment with stones) that covered them.”

faghashāhā mā ghash

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ ۝٥٥

Then which of the graces of your Lord will you doubt?

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbika tatamār

هَـٰذَا نَذِیرࣱ مِّنَ ٱلنُّذُرِ ٱلۡأُولَىٰۤ ۝٥٦

This (Muhammad) is a Warner just like the old warners.

hādhā nadhīrun mina l-nudhuri l-ūl

أَزِفَتِ ٱلۡءَازِفَةُ ۝٥٧

The Day of Resurrection is drawing near;

azifati l-āzifat

لَیۡسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ ۝٥٨

none besides Allah can avert it.

laysa lahā min dūni l-lahi kāshifatu

أَفَمِنۡ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِیثِ تَعۡجَبُونَ ۝٥٩

Do you then wonder at this recital (the Qur’an),

afamin hādhā l-ḥadīthi taʿjabūn

وَتَضۡحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبۡكُونَ ۝٦٠

and laugh at it and don’t weep?

wataḍḥakūna walā tabkūn

وَأَنتُمۡ سَـٰمِدُونَ ۝٦١

You are wasting your precious life in pastime and amusements.

wa-antum sāmidūn

فَ̅ٱ̅سۡ̅جُ̅دُ̅و̅ا۟̅ لِلَّهِ وَٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ۝٦٢ ۩

So you fall down in prostration to Allah and worship Him.

fa-us'judū lillahi wa-uʿ'bud
