The Star — Dr Mohammad Tahir Ul Qadri Translation

By the bright star (Muhammad [blessings and peace be upon him]) when (he ascended during the Ascension Night in the twinkling of an eye and) descended

wal-najmi idhā haw

53:2

مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمۡ وَمَا غَوَىٰ ۝٢

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

He who bestowed on you his companionship (i.e., the Messenger, who made you his companions by blessing you with his companionship,) has never lost his way, nor has he (ever) strayed from the right path

mā ḍalla ṣāḥibukum wamā ghaw

53:3

وَمَا یَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلۡهَوَىٰۤ ۝٣

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And he does not speak out of his (own) desire

wamā yanṭiqu ʿani l-haw

53:4

إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحۡیࣱ یُوحَىٰ ۝٤

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

His speech is nothing but Revelation, which is sent to him

in huwa illā waḥyun yūḥ

53:5

عَلَّمَهُۥ شَدِیدُ ٱلۡقُوَىٰ ۝٥

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

(The Lord) of Mighty Powers (directly) conferred on him (perfect) knowledge

dhū mirratin fa-is'taw

53:6

ذُو مِرَّةࣲ فَٱسۡتَوَىٰ ۝٦

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

He Who is absolute beauty. Then He (the Effulgence of Beauty) decided to unveil (Himself)

Thoo mirratin faistawa

53:7

وَهُوَ بِٱلۡأُفُقِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ ۝٧

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And he (Muhammad [blessings and peace be upon him]) was on the uppermost horizon (of the realm of creation during the Ascension Night i.e., on the apex of the created cosmos)

wahuwa bil-ufuqi l-aʿl

53:8

ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ ۝٨

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Then He (the Lord of Honour) drew closer (to His Beloved Muhammad [blessings and peace be upon him]) and then drew even closer.

thumma danā fatadall

53:9

فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوۡسَیۡنِ أَوۡ أَدۡنَىٰ ۝٩

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Then a distance measuring only two bow-lengths was left (between Allah Unveiled and His Esteemed Beloved), or even less than that (in extreme nearness)

fakāna qāba qawsayni aw adn

53:10

فَأَوۡحَىٰۤ إِلَىٰ عَبۡدِهِۦ مَاۤ أَوۡحَىٰ ۝١٠

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

So (on that station of nearness) He (Allah) revealed to His (Beloved) servant whatever He revealed

fa-awḥā ilā ʿabdihi mā awḥ

53:11

مَا كَذَبَ ٱلۡفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰۤ ۝١١

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

(His) heart did not take it contrary to what (his) eyes beheld

mā kadhaba l-fuādu mā ra

53:12

أَفَتُمَـٰرُونَهُۥ عَلَىٰ مَا یَرَىٰ ۝١٢

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Do you argue with him about what he saw

afatumārūnahu ʿalā mā yar

53:13

وَلَقَدۡ رَءَاهُ نَزۡلَةً أُخۡرَىٰ ۝١٣

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And assuredly, he saw Him (Allah Unveiled) the second time (again and you argue only about seeing Him once).

walaqad raāhu nazlatan ukh'r

53:14

عِندَ سِدۡرَةِ ٱلۡمُنتَهَىٰ ۝١٤

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

At the farthest Lote-Tree—Sidra al-Muntaha

idh yaghshā l-sid'rata mā yaghsh

53:15

عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ ٱلۡمَأۡوَىٰۤ ۝١٥

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Adjacent to that is the Eternal Paradise—Janna al-Ma’wa

AAindaha jannatu alma/wa

53:16

إِذۡ یَغۡشَى ٱلسِّدۡرَةَ مَا یَغۡشَىٰ ۝١٦

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

When theophanies (i.e., effulgent disclosures) of the divine light wrapped up al-Sidra (the Lote-Tree at the Far End), covering it expansively.

Ith yaghsha alssidrata ma yaghsha

53:17

مَا زَاغَ ٱلۡبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ ۝١٧

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

His eye neither inclined aside nor overstepped the limit; (it gazed in ecstasy at Whom it was to gaze)

mā zāgha l-baṣaru wamā ṭagh

53:18

لَقَدۡ رَأَىٰ مِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّهِ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰۤ ۝١٨

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Surely, he saw the greatest signs of His Lord (during the Ascension Night)

laqad raā min āyāti rabbihi l-kub'r

53:19

أَفَرَءَیۡتُمُ ٱللَّـٰتَ وَٱلۡعُزَّىٰ ۝١٩

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Have you taken a look at (the goddesses) Lat and ‘Uzza

afara-aytumu l-lāta wal-ʿuz

53:20

وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰۤ ۝٢٠

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And (have you) also (seen thoughtfully) another, that third one (goddess) Manat? (Have you declared them daughters of Allah?

wamanata l-thālithata l-ukh'r

53:21

أَلَكُمُ ٱلذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ٱلۡأُنثَىٰ ۝٢١

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

(O idolaters!) Are sons for you and daughters for Him (Allah)

alakumu l-dhakaru walahu l-unth

53:22

تِلۡكَ إِذࣰا قِسۡمَةࣱ ضِیزَىٰۤ ۝٢٢

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

(If your concept is correct,) then that division is serious injustice

til'ka idhan qis'matun ḍīz

53:23

إِنۡ هِیَ إِلَّاۤ أَسۡمَاۤءࣱ سَمَّیۡتُمُوهَاۤ أَنتُمۡ وَءَابَاۤؤُكُم مَّاۤ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلۡطَـٰنٍۚ إِن یَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهۡوَى ٱلۡأَنفُسُۖ وَلَقَدۡ جَاۤءَهُم مِّن رَّبِّهِمُ ٱلۡهُدَىٰۤ ۝٢٣

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

But (the truth is that) these (idols) are nothing but mere names which you and your fathers have given. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow only whims and suspicions and the desires of their (ill-commanding) selves, whereas guidance has already come to them from their Lord

in hiya illā asmāon sammaytumūhā antum waābāukum mā anzala l-lahu bihā min sul'ṭānin in yattabiʿūna illā l-ẓana wamā tahwā l-anfusu walaqad jāahum min rabbihimu l-hud

53:24

أَمۡ لِلۡإِنسَـٰنِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ ۝٢٤

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Is (all) that available for man what he longs for

am lil'insāni mā tamann

53:25

فَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةُ وَٱلۡأُولَىٰ ۝٢٥

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

So Allah alone is the Master of the Hereafter and the world

falillahi l-ākhiratu wal-ūl

53:26

۞ وَكَم مِّن مَّلَكࣲ فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ لَا تُغۡنِی شَفَـٰعَتُهُمۡ شَیۡءًا إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ أَن یَأۡذَنَ ٱللَّهُ لِمَن یَشَاۤءُ وَیَرۡضَىٰۤ ۝٢٦

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And how many angels there are in the heavens (whom the disbelievers and the idolaters worship and expect from them intercession but) whose intercession will be of no use at all, except after Allah (awards) permission for whom He wills and likes

wakam min malakin fī l-samāwāti lā tugh'nī shafāʿatuhum shayan illā min baʿdi an yadhana l-lahu liman yashāu wayarḍ

53:27

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ لَیُسَمُّونَ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةَ تَسۡمِیَةَ ٱلۡأُنثَىٰ ۝٢٧

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Surely, those who do not believe in the Hereafter give the angels female names

inna alladhīna lā yu'minūna bil-ākhirati layusammūna l-malāikata tasmiyata l-unth

53:28

وَمَا لَهُم بِهِۦ مِنۡ عِلۡمٍۖ إِن یَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّۖ وَإِنَّ ٱلظَّنَّ لَا یُغۡنِی مِنَ ٱلۡحَقِّ شَیۡءࣰا ۝٢٨

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And they know nothing about it. They follow only assumption, and surely assumption serves no purpose in comparison with certitude

wamā lahum bihi min ʿil'min in yattabiʿūna illā l-ẓana wa-inna l-ẓana lā yugh'nī mina l-ḥaqi shaya

53:29

فَأَعۡرِضۡ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّىٰ عَن ذِكۡرِنَا وَلَمۡ یُرِدۡ إِلَّا ٱلۡحَیَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡیَا ۝٢٩

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

So divert your attention from him who turns away from Our remembrance and desires nothing but the life of this world

fa-aʿriḍ ʿan man tawallā ʿan dhik'rinā walam yurid illā l-ḥayata l-dun'y

53:30

ذَ ٰلِكَ مَبۡلَغُهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡعِلۡمِۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِیلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱهۡتَدَىٰ ۝٣٠

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

That is but the limit of the working of their knowledge. Verily, your Lord fully knows him who has strayed from His path and (also) knows best him who has attained guidance

dhālika mablaghuhum mina l-ʿil'mi inna rabbaka huwa aʿlamu biman ḍalla ʿan sabīlihi wahuwa aʿlamu bimani ih'tad

53:31

وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَمَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ لِیَجۡزِیَ ٱلَّذِینَ أَسَـٰۤءُوا۟ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَیَجۡزِیَ ٱلَّذِینَ أَحۡسَنُوا۟ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَى ۝٣١

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth so that He recompenses the acts of those who have committed vices and gives good reward to those who have performed virtues

walillahi mā fī l-samāwāti wamā fī l-arḍi liyajziya alladhīna asāū bimā ʿamilū wayajziya alladhīna aḥsanū bil-ḥus'n

53:32

ٱلَّذِینَ یَجۡتَنِبُونَ كَبَـٰۤىِٕرَ ٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَٱلۡفَوَ ٰحِشَ إِلَّا ٱللَّمَمَۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَ ٰسِعُ ٱلۡمَغۡفِرَةِۚ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِكُمۡ إِذۡ أَنشَأَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَإِذۡ أَنتُمۡ أَجِنَّةࣱ فِی بُطُونِ أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمۡۖ فَلَا تُزَكُّوۤا۟ أَنفُسَكُمۡۖ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰۤ ۝٣٢

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Those who guard against grave sins and indecencies excepting small sins (and omissions), surely your Lord has vast prospects of forgiveness (for them). He knows you best when He originated your life and nourishment from the earth (i.e., soil) and when you were embryos (conceived) in your mothers’ wombs. So never pose yourselves as clean and pure; He knows best who is (really) pious

alladhīna yajtanibūna kabāira l-ith'mi wal-fawāḥisha illā l-lamama inna rabbaka wāsiʿu l-maghfirati huwa aʿlamu bikum idh ansha-akum mina l-arḍi wa-idh antum ajinnatun fī buṭūni ummahātikum falā tuzakkū anfusakum huwa aʿlamu bimani ittaq

53:33

أَفَرَءَیۡتَ ٱلَّذِی تَوَلَّىٰ ۝٣٣

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Have you seen him who has turned away (from the truth)

afara-ayta alladhī tawall

53:34

وَأَعۡطَىٰ قَلِیلࣰا وَأَكۡدَىٰۤ ۝٣٤

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And he gave away a little (wealth in the way of Allah) and (then) held back (his hand)

wa-aʿṭā qalīlan wa-akd

53:35

أَعِندَهُۥ عِلۡمُ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ فَهُوَ یَرَىٰۤ ۝٣٥

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Does he have the knowledge of the unseen that he can see

aʿindahu ʿil'mu l-ghaybi fahuwa yar

53:36

أَمۡ لَمۡ یُنَبَّأۡ بِمَا فِی صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ ۝٣٦

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Has he not been given the knowledge of (matters) mentioned in the scriptures of Musa (Moses)

am lam yunabba bimā fī ṣuḥufi mūs

53:37

وَإِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ ٱلَّذِی وَفَّىٰۤ ۝٣٧

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And in the (scriptures) of Ibrahim (Abraham), who accomplished (all the commands of Allah) with perfection

wa-ib'rāhīma alladhī waff

53:38

أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةࣱ وِزۡرَ أُخۡرَىٰ ۝٣٨

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

That no bearer of a burden will carry the burden of (the sins) of another

allā taziru wāziratun wiz'ra ukh'r

53:39

وَأَن لَّیۡسَ لِلۡإِنسَـٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ ۝٣٩

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that man (according to justice) will get only that for which he strives. (As for bounty, no one has any right to it. That is merely Allah’s bestowal and pleasure, granting as much as He wills to whom He pleases.

wa-an laysa lil'insāni illā mā saʿ

53:40

وَأَنَّ سَعۡیَهُۥ سَوۡفَ یُرَىٰ ۝٤٠

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that all his endeavours will soon be shown (i.e., exposed)

wa-anna saʿyahu sawfa yur

53:41

ثُمَّ یُجۡزَىٰهُ ٱلۡجَزَاۤءَ ٱلۡأَوۡفَىٰ ۝٤١

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Then he will be given full reward (for all his endeavours)

thumma yuj'zāhu l-jazāa l-awf

53:42

وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡمُنتَهَىٰ ۝٤٢

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that (ultimately all) have to return to your Lord

wa-anna ilā rabbika l-muntah

53:43

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضۡحَكَ وَأَبۡكَىٰ ۝٤٣

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that He is the One Who makes one laugh (granting delight) and makes one weep (granting grief)

wa-annahu huwa aḍḥaka wa-abk

53:44

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحۡیَا ۝٤٤

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that He is the One Who causes death and gives life

wa-annahu huwa amāta wa-aḥy

53:45

وَأَنَّهُۥ خَلَقَ ٱلزَّوۡجَیۡنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰ ۝٤٥

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that He is the One Who has created the two genders, male and female

wa-annahu khalaqa l-zawjayni l-dhakara wal-unth

53:46

مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ إِذَا تُمۡنَىٰ ۝٤٦

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Out of a (sperm) drop when it is ejaculated (into the mother’s womb)

min nuṭ'fatin idhā tum'n

53:47

وَأَنَّ عَلَیۡهِ ٱلنَّشۡأَةَ ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰ ۝٤٧

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that it is upon Him alone to raise up alive (also after death)

wa-anna ʿalayhi l-nashata l-ukh'r

53:48

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَغۡنَىٰ وَأَقۡنَىٰ ۝٤٨

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that He is the One Who makes self-sufficient (by providing according to needs), and He is the One Who enriches treasures (by giving surplus to the needs)

wa-annahu huwa aghnā wa-aqn

53:49

وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلشِّعۡرَىٰ ۝٤٩

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that He alone is the Lord of Sirius (a star that was worshipped in the days of ignorance)

wa-annahu huwa rabbu l-shiʿ'r

53:50

وَأَنَّهُۥۤ أَهۡلَكَ عَادًا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ ۝٥٠

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And that He is the One Who destroyed the first (people of) ‘Ad

wa-annahu ahlaka ʿādan l-ūl

53:51

وَثَمُودَا۟ فَمَاۤ أَبۡقَىٰ ۝٥١

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And (the people of) Thamud (as well). Then He did not spare (any of them) to survive

wathamūdā famā abq

53:52

وَقَوۡمَ نُوحࣲ مِّن قَبۡلُۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ هُمۡ أَظۡلَمَ وَأَطۡغَىٰ ۝٥٢

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And before that, He destroyed the people of Nuh ([Noah] as well). Surely, they were extremely wicked and exceedingly defiant

waqawma nūḥin min qablu innahum kānū hum aẓlama wa-aṭgh

53:53

وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَةَ أَهۡوَىٰ ۝٥٣

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And He is the One Who (raised up) the overturned towns (of the people of Lut [Lot]) and smashed them down

wal-mu'tafikata ahw

53:54

فَغَشَّىٰهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ ۝٥٤

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Then covered them that which did cover (i.e., the stones were rained on them)

faghashāhā mā ghash

53:55

فَبِأَیِّ ءَالَاۤءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ ۝٥٥

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

So, (O man,) which of the favours of your Lord will you doubt

fabi-ayyi ālāi rabbika tatamār

53:56

هَـٰذَا نَذِیرࣱ مِّنَ ٱلنُّذُرِ ٱلۡأُولَىٰۤ ۝٥٦

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

This (Holy Prophet [blessings and peace be upon him]) is also a Warner of the Warners of old

hādhā nadhīrun mina l-nudhuri l-ūl

53:57

أَزِفَتِ ٱلۡءَازِفَةُ ۝٥٧

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

The imminent (Hour of Judgment) has drawn near

azifati l-āzifat

53:58

لَیۡسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ ۝٥٨

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

No one except Allah can bring it forth (and establish)

laysa lahā min dūni l-lahi kāshifatu

53:59

أَفَمِنۡ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِیثِ تَعۡجَبُونَ ۝٥٩

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

So do you wonder at this Revelation

afamin hādhā l-ḥadīthi taʿjabūn

53:60

وَتَضۡحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبۡكُونَ ۝٦٠

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And do you laugh and not weep

wataḍḥakūna walā tabkūn

53:61

وَأَنتُمۡ سَـٰمِدُونَ ۝٦١

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Whilst you are busy playing a game (of negligence)

wa-antum sāmidūn

53:62

فَ̅ٱ̅سۡ̅جُ̅دُ̅و̅ا۟̅ لِلَّهِ وَٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ۝٦٢ ۩

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

So prostrate yourselves before Allah and worship (Him)

fa-us'judū lillahi wa-uʿ'bud
