And if they (the disbelievers) see a sign (a miracle), they turn their faces away and say: ‘This is the powerful magic ever running down through ages.

wa-in yaraw āyatan yuʿ'riḍū wayaqūlū siḥ'run mus'tamirru

54:3

وَكَذَّبُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوۤا۟ أَهۡوَاۤءَهُمۡۚ وَكُلُّ أَمۡرࣲ مُّسۡتَقِرࣱّ ۝٣

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And they have rejected (the truth even now) and followed their vain desires. And everything (that has been promised) is to take place at the appointed time

wakadhabū wa-ittabaʿū ahwāahum wakullu amrin mus'taqirru

54:4

وَلَقَدۡ جَاۤءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَنۢبَاۤءِ مَا فِیهِ مُزۡدَجَرٌ ۝٤

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And indeed, the news has come to them (of the earlier communities) containing lessons of warning and admonition (on disbelief and disobedience)

walaqad jāahum mina l-anbāi mā fīhi muz'dajaru

54:5

حِكۡمَةُۢ بَـٰلِغَةࣱۖ فَمَا تُغۡنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ ۝٥

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

(This Qur’an) is perfect intellect and reason. Are the Warners still not of any benefit

ḥik'matun bālighatun famā tugh'ni l-nudhur

54:6

فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡۘ یَوۡمَ یَدۡعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَیۡءࣲ نُّكُرٍ ۝٦

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

So turn your face away from them. The Day when the caller (angel) will call towards the most detestable thing (the expanse of the last assembly)

fatawalla ʿanhum yawma yadʿu l-dāʿi ilā shayin nukuri

54:7

خُشَّعًا أَبۡصَـٰرُهُمۡ یَخۡرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡأَجۡدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمۡ جَرَادࣱ مُّنتَشِرࣱ ۝٧

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

With eyes cast down, they will come out of their graves like scattered locusts

khushaʿan abṣāruhum yakhrujūna mina l-ajdāthi ka-annahum jarādun muntashiru

54:8

مُّهۡطِعِینَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِۖ یَقُولُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا یَوۡمٌ عَسِرࣱ ۝٨

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Rushing towards the caller running. The disbelievers will say: ‘This is a very hard Day.

muh'ṭiʿīna ilā l-dāʿi yaqūlu l-kāfirūna hādhā yawmun ʿasiru

54:9

۞ كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحࣲ فَكَذَّبُوا۟ عَبۡدَنَا وَقَالُوا۟ مَجۡنُونࣱ وَٱزۡدُجِرَ ۝٩

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

The people of Nuh (Noah) also denied before this. So they belied Our servant (Nuh [Noah], the Messenger) and said: ‘(He) is mad.’ And he was given threats

kadhabat qablahum qawmu nūḥin fakadhabū ʿabdanā waqālū majnūnun wa-uz'dujir

54:10

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥۤ أَنِّی مَغۡلُوبࣱ فَٱنتَصِرۡ ۝١٠

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

So he prayed to his Lord: ‘I am powerless (before the transgressions of my people) so exact revenge.

fadaʿā rabbahu annī maghlūbun fa-intaṣi

54:11

فَفَتَحۡنَاۤ أَبۡوَ ٰبَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ بِمَاۤءࣲ مُّنۡهَمِرࣲ ۝١١

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Then We opened the gates of heaven with torrential rain

fafataḥnā abwāba l-samāi bimāin mun'hamiri

54:12

وَفَجَّرۡنَا ٱلۡأَرۡضَ عُیُونࣰا فَٱلۡتَقَى ٱلۡمَاۤءُ عَلَىٰۤ أَمۡرࣲ قَدۡ قُدِرَ ۝١٢

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And We burst springs from the earth. So the water (of the earth and the heaven) collected for the same purpose that had been decreed already (for their destruction)

wafajjarnā l-arḍa ʿuyūnan fal-taqā l-māu ʿalā amrin qad qudir

54:13

وَحَمَلۡنَـٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلۡوَ ٰحࣲ وَدُسُرࣲ ۝١٣

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And We carried him (Nuh [Noah]) in the (Ark) built with planks and nails

waḥamalnāhu ʿalā dhāti alwāḥin wadusuri

54:14

تَجۡرِی بِأَعۡیُنِنَا جَزَاۤءࣰ لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ ۝١٤

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Which floated before Our eyes (under Our security. All this) was done to exact revenge for him, Nuh (Noah), who was rejected

tajrī bi-aʿyuninā jazāan liman kāna kufir

54:15

وَلَقَد تَّرَكۡنَـٰهَاۤ ءَایَةࣰ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرࣲ ۝١٥

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And surely, We made (the ruins of the Deluge) subsist as a sign. So is there anyone who will think (and take advice)

walaqad taraknāhā āyatan fahal min muddakiri

54:16

فَكَیۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِی وَنُذُرِ ۝١٦

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

So how My torment and My warning were

fakayfa kāna ʿadhābī wanudhur

54:17

وَلَقَدۡ یَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرࣲ ۝١٧

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And indeed, We have made the Qur’an easy for direction and guidance, but is there anyone who will take advice

walaqad yassarnā l-qur'āna lildhik'ri fahal min muddakiri

54:18

كَذَّبَتۡ عَادࣱ فَكَیۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِی وَنُذُرِ ۝١٨

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

(The people of) ‘Ad too rejected (the Messengers). So how (awful) My torment (upon them) and My warning were

kadhabat ʿādun fakayfa kāna ʿadhābī wanudhur

54:19

إِنَّاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ رِیحࣰا صَرۡصَرࣰا فِی یَوۡمِ نَحۡسࣲ مُّسۡتَمِرࣲّ ۝١٩

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Surely, We sent upon them a howling windstorm on a day of lasting evil (in their favour)

innā arsalnā ʿalayhim rīḥan ṣarṣaran fī yawmi naḥsin mus'tamirri

54:20

تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمۡ أَعۡجَازُ نَخۡلࣲ مُّنقَعِرࣲ ۝٢٠

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

That plucked out people as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms

tanziʿu l-nāsa ka-annahum aʿjāzu nakhlin munqaʿiri

54:21

فَكَیۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِی وَنُذُرِ ۝٢١

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Then how (awful) My torment and My warning were

fakayfa kāna ʿadhābī wanudhur

54:22

وَلَقَدۡ یَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرࣲ ۝٢٢

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And indeed, We have made the Qur’an easy for direction and guidance, but is there anyone who will take advice

walaqad yassarnā l-qur'āna lildhik'ri fahal min muddakiri

54:23

كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ ۝٢٣

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

(The people of) Thamud also rejected the Warning Messengers

kadhabat thamūdu bil-nudhur

54:24

فَقَالُوۤا۟ أَبَشَرࣰا مِّنَّا وَ ٰحِدࣰا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥۤ إِنَّاۤ إِذࣰا لَّفِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ وَسُعُرٍ ۝٢٤

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

So they said: ‘Are we to follow a human being who is one of us? Then we shall certainly run into error and insanity

faqālū abasharan minnā wāḥidan nattabiʿuhu innā idhan lafī ḍalālin wasuʿuri

54:25

أَءُلۡقِیَ ٱلذِّكۡرُ عَلَیۡهِ مِنۢ بَیۡنِنَا بَلۡ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرࣱ ۝٢٥

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Has the direction and guidance (Revelation) been sent down to him alone out of all of us? The truth is that he is a great liar, self-conceited (and arrogant).

a-ul'qiya l-dhik'ru ʿalayhi min bayninā bal huwa kadhābun ashiru

54:26

سَیَعۡلَمُونَ غَدࣰا مَّنِ ٱلۡكَذَّابُ ٱلۡأَشِرُ ۝٢٦

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

They will come to know tomorrow (on the Day of Judgment) who is a great liar, self-conceited (and arrogant)

sayaʿlamūna ghadan mani l-kadhābu l-ashir

54:27

إِنَّا مُرۡسِلُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتۡنَةࣰ لَّهُمۡ فَٱرۡتَقِبۡهُمۡ وَٱصۡطَبِرۡ ۝٢٧

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Indeed, We are going to send a she-camel for them to test them. So, (O Salih,) wait for their (end) and continue observing patience

innā mur'silū l-nāqati fit'natan lahum fa-ir'taqib'hum wa-iṣ'ṭabi

54:28

وَنَبِّئۡهُمۡ أَنَّ ٱلۡمَاۤءَ قِسۡمَةُۢ بَیۡنَهُمۡۖ كُلُّ شِرۡبࣲ مُّحۡتَضَرࣱ ۝٢٨

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And make it known to them that water has been divided between them (and the she-camel). Everyone will be served with the share of water by turn

wanabbi'hum anna l-māa qis'matun baynahum kullu shir'bin muḥ'taḍaru

54:29

فَنَادَوۡا۟ صَاحِبَهُمۡ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ ۝٢٩

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

So they called one of their companions (named Qidar). He attacked (the she-camel with a sword) and hamstrung her

fanādaw ṣāḥibahum fataʿāṭā faʿaqar

54:30

فَكَیۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِی وَنُذُرِ ۝٣٠

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Then how (awful) My torment and My warning were

fakayfa kāna ʿadhābī wanudhur

54:31

إِنَّاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ صَیۡحَةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ فَكَانُوا۟ كَهَشِیمِ ٱلۡمُحۡتَظِرِ ۝٣١

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Verily, We sent upon them a terrible roar. So they became like a thatcher’s trampled stubble

innā arsalnā ʿalayhim ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan fakānū kahashīmi l-muḥ'taẓir

54:32

وَلَقَدۡ یَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرࣲ ۝٣٢

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And indeed, We have made the Qur’an easy for direction and guidance, but is there anyone who will take advice

walaqad yassarnā l-qur'āna lildhik'ri fahal min muddakiri

54:33

كَذَّبَتۡ قَوۡمُ لُوطِۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ ۝٣٣

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

The people of Lut (Lot) also rejected the Warners

kadhabat qawmu lūṭin bil-nudhur

54:34

إِنَّاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ حَاصِبًا إِلَّاۤ ءَالَ لُوطࣲۖ نَّجَّیۡنَـٰهُم بِسَحَرࣲ ۝٣٤

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Surely, We sent a windstorm raining stones upon them except the family of Lut (Lot). We saved them (from the torment) in the later part of the night

innā arsalnā ʿalayhim ḥāṣiban illā āla lūṭin najjaynāhum bisaḥari

54:35

نِّعۡمَةࣰ مِّنۡ عِندِنَاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی مَن شَكَرَ ۝٣٥

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

With a special favour from Us. In the same way, We give reward to him who gives thanks

niʿ'matan min ʿindinā kadhālika najzī man shakar

54:36

وَلَقَدۡ أَنذَرَهُم بَطۡشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوۡا۟ بِٱلنُّذُرِ ۝٣٦

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And no doubt, Lut (Lot) warned them of Our seizure but, having doubts about his warnings, they denied

walaqad andharahum baṭshatanā fatamāraw bil-nudhur

54:37

وَلَقَدۡ رَ ٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَیۡفِهِۦ فَطَمَسۡنَاۤ أَعۡیُنَهُمۡ فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِی وَنُذُرِ ۝٣٧

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And indeed, they made up their minds to snatch from Lut (Lot) his guests. So We erased the structure of their eyes and stripped them of sight, then (said to them:) ‘Taste My punishment and warning.

walaqad rāwadūhu ʿan ḍayfihi faṭamasnā aʿyunahum fadhūqū ʿadhābī wanudhur

54:38

وَلَقَدۡ صَبَّحَهُم بُكۡرَةً عَذَابࣱ مُّسۡتَقِرࣱّ ۝٣٨

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And surely, the everlasting punishment reached them early in the morning

walaqad ṣabbaḥahum buk'ratan ʿadhābun mus'taqirru

54:39

فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِی وَنُذُرِ ۝٣٩

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Then (it was said to them:) ‘Taste My punishment and warning.

fadhūqū ʿadhābī wanudhur

54:40

وَلَقَدۡ یَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرࣲ ۝٤٠

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And indeed, We have made the Qur’an easy for direction and guidance, but is there anyone who will take advice

walaqad yassarnā l-qur'āna lildhik'ri fahal min muddakiri

54:41

وَلَقَدۡ جَاۤءَ ءَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ ۝٤١

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And surely, the Warners came to the people of Pharaoh (as well)

walaqad jāa āla fir'ʿawna l-nudhur

54:42

كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذۡنَـٰهُمۡ أَخۡذَ عَزِیزࣲ مُّقۡتَدِرٍ ۝٤٢

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

They denied all Our signs. Then We seized them with the seizure befitting the Glory of Almighty, All-Powerful

kadhabū biāyātinā kullihā fa-akhadhnāhum akhdha ʿazīzin muq'tadiri

54:43

أَكُفَّارُكُمۡ خَیۡرࣱ مِّنۡ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكُمۡ أَمۡ لَكُم بَرَاۤءَةࣱ فِی ٱلزُّبُرِ ۝٤٣

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

(O Quraysh of Mecca!) Are your disbelievers better than the people (before), or has your salvation been written in the (revealed) Books

akuffārukum khayrun min ulāikum am lakum barāatun fī l-zubur

54:44

أَمۡ یَقُولُونَ نَحۡنُ جَمِیعࣱ مُّنتَصِرࣱ ۝٤٤

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Or do these (disbelievers) say: ‘We are a strong party dominant (over the Prophet [blessings and peace be upon him])’

am yaqūlūna naḥnu jamīʿun muntaṣiru

54:45

سَیُهۡزَمُ ٱلۡجَمۡعُ وَیُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ ۝٤٥

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Soon this party will be defeated (in the battlefield of Badr), and they will flee away, turning their backs

sayuh'zamu l-jamʿu wayuwallūna l-dubur

54:46

بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوۡعِدُهُمۡ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدۡهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ ۝٤٦

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

But their (actual) promise is the Last Hour, and the Last Hour is extremely terrible and most agonizing

bali l-sāʿatu mawʿiduhum wal-sāʿatu adhā wa-amarr

54:47

إِنَّ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ فِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ وَسُعُرࣲ ۝٤٧

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Assuredly, the evildoers are in (the fold of) error and insanity (or Fire)

inna l-muj'rimīna fī ḍalālin wasuʿuri

54:48

یَوۡمَ یُسۡحَبُونَ فِی ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمۡ ذُوقُوا۟ مَسَّ سَقَرَ ۝٤٨

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

The Day when they will be dragged into Hell on their faces (it will be said to them:) ‘Taste burning in Hell.

yawma yus'ḥabūna fī l-nāri ʿalā wujūhihim dhūqū massa saqar

54:49

إِنَّا كُلَّ شَیۡءٍ خَلَقۡنَـٰهُ بِقَدَرࣲ ۝٤٩

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Surely, We have created everything according to a fixed measure

innā kulla shayin khalaqnāhu biqadari

54:50

وَمَاۤ أَمۡرُنَاۤ إِلَّا وَ ٰحِدَةࣱ كَلَمۡحِۭ بِٱلۡبَصَرِ ۝٥٠

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And Our command comes into action once and for all as the twinkling of an eye

wamā amrunā illā wāḥidatun kalamḥin bil-baṣar

54:51

وَلَقَدۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَاۤ أَشۡیَاعَكُمۡ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرࣲ ۝٥١

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And surely, We destroyed (many of) your groups. So is there anyone who will take advice

walaqad ahlaknā ashyāʿakum fahal min muddakiri

54:52

وَكُلُّ شَیۡءࣲ فَعَلُوهُ فِی ٱلزُّبُرِ ۝٥٢

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And whatever they did is (recorded) in (their) Books of Deeds

wakullu shayin faʿalūhu fī l-zubur

54:53

وَكُلُّ صَغِیرࣲ وَكَبِیرࣲ مُّسۡتَطَرٌ ۝٥٣

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And every (action), small or big, has been written

wakullu ṣaghīrin wakabīrin mus'taṭaru

54:54

إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ فِی جَنَّـٰتࣲ وَنَهَرࣲ ۝٥٤

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

Indeed, the Godfearing will (rejoice) in gardens and streams

inna l-mutaqīna fī jannātin wanahari

54:55

فِی مَقۡعَدِ صِدۡقٍ عِندَ مَلِیكࣲ مُّقۡتَدِرِۭ ۝٥٥

Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri

And will (be seated) in special nearness to the Sovereign Lord of (true) power during holy sessions

fī maqʿadi ṣid'qin ʿinda malīkin muq'tadiri
