1 Judgment to overtake Opponents
54:1 ›
ٱقۡتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلۡقَمَرُ ۝١
Hamid S. Aziz
The hour drew nigh (or is nigh) and the moon was rent in twain (or is rent)
iq'tarabati l-sāʿatu wa-inshaqqa l-qamar
54:2 ›
وَإِن یَرَوۡا۟ ءَایَةࣰ یُعۡرِضُوا۟ وَیَقُولُوا۟ سِحۡرࣱ مُّسۡتَمِرࣱّ ۝٢
Hamid S. Aziz
And if they see a Sign they turn aside and say, "Transient magic."
wa-in yaraw āyatan yuʿ'riḍū wayaqūlū siḥ'run mus'tamirru
54:3 ›
وَكَذَّبُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوۤا۟ أَهۡوَاۤءَهُمۡۚ وَكُلُّ أَمۡرࣲ مُّسۡتَقِرࣱّ ۝٣
Hamid S. Aziz
And they call it a lie, and follow their own low desires; but every affair has its appointed term
wakadhabū wa-ittabaʿū ahwāahum wakullu amrin mus'taqirru
54:4 ›
وَلَقَدۡ جَاۤءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَنۢبَاۤءِ مَا فِیهِ مُزۡدَجَرٌ ۝٤
Hamid S. Aziz
And certainly some narratives have come to them wherein is a deterrent
walaqad jāahum mina l-anbāi mā fīhi muz'dajaru
54:5 ›
حِكۡمَةُۢ بَـٰلِغَةࣱۖ فَمَا تُغۡنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ ۝٥
Hamid S. Aziz
Consummate wisdom - but warnings avail not
ḥik'matun bālighatun famā tugh'ni l-nudhur
54:6 ›
فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡۘ یَوۡمَ یَدۡعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَیۡءࣲ نُّكُرٍ ۝٦
Hamid S. Aziz
So turn your back on them for the Day when the Summoner summons them unto a terrible affair
fatawalla ʿanhum yawma yadʿu l-dāʿi ilā shayin nukuri
54:7 ›
خُشَّعًا أَبۡصَـٰرُهُمۡ یَخۡرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡأَجۡدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمۡ جَرَادࣱ مُّنتَشِرࣱ ۝٧
Hamid S. Aziz
With downcast eyes, they come forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts
khushaʿan abṣāruhum yakhrujūna mina l-ajdāthi ka-annahum jarādun muntashiru
54:8 ›
مُّهۡطِعِینَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِۖ یَقُولُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا یَوۡمٌ عَسِرࣱ ۝٨
Hamid S. Aziz
Hastening towards the Summoner. The unbelievers shall say, "This is a hard day."
muh'ṭiʿīna ilā l-dāʿi yaqūlu l-kāfirūna hādhā yawmun ʿasiru
54:9 ›
۞ كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحࣲ فَكَذَّبُوا۟ عَبۡدَنَا وَقَالُوا۟ مَجۡنُونࣱ وَٱزۡدُجِرَ ۝٩
Hamid S. Aziz
Before them the people of Noah rejected, yea they reject Our servant and called him mad, and he was driven away
kadhabat qablahum qawmu nūḥin fakadhabū ʿabdanā waqālū majnūnun wa-uz'dujir
54:10 ›
فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥۤ أَنِّی مَغۡلُوبࣱ فَٱنتَصِرۡ ۝١٠
Hamid S. Aziz
Therefore he called upon his Lord, "I am overcome, come you then to help."
fadaʿā rabbahu annī maghlūbun fa-intaṣi
54:11 ›
فَفَتَحۡنَاۤ أَبۡوَ ٰبَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ بِمَاۤءࣲ مُّنۡهَمِرࣲ ۝١١
Hamid S. Aziz
So We opened the gates of heaven with water pouring fort
fafataḥnā abwāba l-samāi bimāin mun'hamiri
54:12 ›
وَفَجَّرۡنَا ٱلۡأَرۡضَ عُیُونࣰا فَٱلۡتَقَى ٱلۡمَاۤءُ عَلَىٰۤ أَمۡرࣲ قَدۡ قُدِرَ ۝١٢
Hamid S. Aziz
And We caused water to gush forth from the land in springs; so the waters gathered together and rose according to a measure already ordained
wafajjarnā l-arḍa ʿuyūnan fal-taqā l-māu ʿalā amrin qad qudir
54:13 ›
وَحَمَلۡنَـٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلۡوَ ٰحࣲ وَدُسُرࣲ ۝١٣
Hamid S. Aziz
And We bore him on that (the Ark) which was made of planks and nails (or ties of palm-fibre
waḥamalnāhu ʿalā dhāti alwāḥin wadusuri
54:14 ›
تَجۡرِی بِأَعۡیُنِنَا جَزَاۤءࣰ لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ ۝١٤
Hamid S. Aziz
Floating before Our eyes, a reward for him who was rejected
tajrī bi-aʿyuninā jazāan liman kāna kufir
54:15 ›
وَلَقَد تَّرَكۡنَـٰهَاۤ ءَایَةࣰ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرࣲ ۝١٥
Hamid S. Aziz
And certainly We left it as a sign, but is there anyone that remembers (or takes heed)
walaqad taraknāhā āyatan fahal min muddakiri
54:16 ›
فَكَیۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِی وَنُذُرِ ۝١٦
Hamid S. Aziz
How great was then My punishment after My warning
fakayfa kāna ʿadhābī wanudhur
54:17 ›
وَلَقَدۡ یَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرࣲ ۝١٧
Hamid S. Aziz
And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will heed
walaqad yassarnā l-qur'āna lildhik'ri fahal min muddakiri
54:18 ›
كَذَّبَتۡ عَادࣱ فَكَیۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِی وَنُذُرِ ۝١٨
Hamid S. Aziz
A´ad treated the truth as a lie, so how great was My punishment after My warning
kadhabat ʿādun fakayfa kāna ʿadhābī wanudhur
54:19 ›
إِنَّاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ رِیحࣰا صَرۡصَرࣰا فِی یَوۡمِ نَحۡسࣲ مُّسۡتَمِرࣲّ ۝١٩
Hamid S. Aziz
Surely We sent on them a tornado in a day of violent disaster
innā arsalnā ʿalayhim rīḥan ṣarṣaran fī yawmi naḥsin mus'tamirri
54:20 ›
تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمۡ أَعۡجَازُ نَخۡلࣲ مُّنقَعِرࣲ ۝٢٠
Hamid S. Aziz
Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees uprooted
tanziʿu l-nāsa ka-annahum aʿjāzu nakhlin munqaʿiri
54:21 ›
فَكَیۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِی وَنُذُرِ ۝٢١
Hamid S. Aziz
How great was then My punishment after My warning
fakayfa kāna ʿadhābī wanudhur
54:22 ›
وَلَقَدۡ یَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرࣲ ۝٢٢
Hamid S. Aziz
And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will heed
walaqad yassarnā l-qur'āna lildhik'ri fahal min muddakiri
2 Thamud and Lot's People
54:23 ›
كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ ۝٢٣
Hamid S. Aziz
Thamud rejected the warning
kadhabat thamūdu bil-nudhur
54:24 ›
فَقَالُوۤا۟ أَبَشَرࣰا مِّنَّا وَ ٰحِدࣰا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥۤ إِنَّاۤ إِذࣰا لَّفِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ وَسُعُرٍ ۝٢٤
Hamid S. Aziz
So they said, "What! A single mortal from among us! Shall we follow him? Most surely we shall then be in sure error and madness
faqālū abasharan minnā wāḥidan nattabiʿuhu innā idhan lafī ḍalālin wasuʿuri
54:25 ›
أَءُلۡقِیَ ٱلذِّكۡرُ عَلَیۡهِ مِنۢ بَیۡنِنَا بَلۡ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرࣱ ۝٢٥
Hamid S. Aziz
"Can it be that the reminder has been sent to him of all the people among us? Nay! He is an insolent liar!"
a-ul'qiya l-dhik'ru ʿalayhi min bayninā bal huwa kadhābun ashiru
54:26 ›
سَیَعۡلَمُونَ غَدࣰا مَّنِ ٱلۡكَذَّابُ ٱلۡأَشِرُ ۝٢٦
Hamid S. Aziz
Ah, tomorrow shall they know who is the liar, the insolent one
sayaʿlamūna ghadan mani l-kadhābu l-ashir
54:27 ›
إِنَّا مُرۡسِلُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتۡنَةࣰ لَّهُمۡ فَٱرۡتَقِبۡهُمۡ وَٱصۡطَبِرۡ ۝٢٧
Hamid S. Aziz
Surely We shall send them the she-camel as a trial; therefore, watch them and have patience
innā mur'silū l-nāqati fit'natan lahum fa-ir'taqib'hum wa-iṣ'ṭabi
54:28 ›
وَنَبِّئۡهُمۡ أَنَّ ٱلۡمَاۤءَ قِسۡمَةُۢ بَیۡنَهُمۡۖ كُلُّ شِرۡبࣲ مُّحۡتَضَرࣱ ۝٢٨
Hamid S. Aziz
And inform them that the water is to be shared between them; every drinking shall be regulated
wanabbi'hum anna l-māa qis'matun baynahum kullu shir'bin muḥ'taḍaru
54:29 ›
فَنَادَوۡا۟ صَاحِبَهُمۡ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ ۝٢٩
Hamid S. Aziz
But they called their companion, who took (the sword) and hamstrung her
fanādaw ṣāḥibahum fataʿāṭā faʿaqar
54:30 ›
فَكَیۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِی وَنُذُرِ ۝٣٠
Hamid S. Aziz
How great was then My punishment after My warning
fakayfa kāna ʿadhābī wanudhur
54:31 ›
إِنَّاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ صَیۡحَةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ فَكَانُوا۟ كَهَشِیمِ ٱلۡمُحۡتَظِرِ ۝٣١
Hamid S. Aziz
Surely We sent upon them a single Shout (or Blast), so they became like the dry stubble which the maker of an enclosure collects
innā arsalnā ʿalayhim ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan fakānū kahashīmi l-muḥ'taẓir
54:32 ›
وَلَقَدۡ یَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرࣲ ۝٣٢
Hamid S. Aziz
And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will heed
walaqad yassarnā l-qur'āna lildhik'ri fahal min muddakiri
54:33 ›
كَذَّبَتۡ قَوۡمُ لُوطِۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ ۝٣٣
Hamid S. Aziz
The people of Lot treated the warning. as a lie
kadhabat qawmu lūṭin bil-nudhur
54:34 ›
إِنَّاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ حَاصِبًا إِلَّاۤ ءَالَ لُوطࣲۖ نَّجَّیۡنَـٰهُم بِسَحَرࣲ ۝٣٤
Hamid S. Aziz
Surely We sent upon them a storm with stones, except Lot´s followers; We saved them a little before daybreak
innā arsalnā ʿalayhim ḥāṣiban illā āla lūṭin najjaynāhum bisaḥari
54:35 ›
نِّعۡمَةࣰ مِّنۡ عِندِنَاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی مَن شَكَرَ ۝٣٥
Hamid S. Aziz
A favour from Us; thus do We reward him who gives thanks
niʿ'matan min ʿindinā kadhālika najzī man shakar
54:36 ›
وَلَقَدۡ أَنذَرَهُم بَطۡشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوۡا۟ بِٱلنُّذُرِ ۝٣٦
Hamid S. Aziz
And certainly he (Lot) warned them of Our violent punishment, but they obstinately disputed the warning
walaqad andharahum baṭshatanā fatamāraw bil-nudhur
54:37 ›
وَلَقَدۡ رَ ٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَیۡفِهِۦ فَطَمَسۡنَاۤ أَعۡیُنَهُمۡ فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِی وَنُذُرِ ۝٣٧
Hamid S. Aziz
And they endeavoured to snatch away his guests from him, but We blinded their eyes; "So taste you My chastisement and My warning
walaqad rāwadūhu ʿan ḍayfihi faṭamasnā aʿyunahum fadhūqū ʿadhābī wanudhur
54:38 ›
وَلَقَدۡ صَبَّحَهُم بُكۡرَةً عَذَابࣱ مُّسۡتَقِرࣱّ ۝٣٨
Hamid S. Aziz
And early in the morning a lasting chastisement overtook them
walaqad ṣabbaḥahum buk'ratan ʿadhābun mus'taqirru
54:39 ›
فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِی وَنُذُرِ ۝٣٩
Hamid S. Aziz
"So taste you My chastisement after My warning."
fadhūqū ʿadhābī wanudhur
54:40 ›
وَلَقَدۡ یَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرࣲ ۝٤٠
Hamid S. Aziz
And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will heed
walaqad yassarnā l-qur'āna lildhik'ri fahal min muddakiri
3 Pharaoh and the Prophet's Opponents
54:41 ›
وَلَقَدۡ جَاۤءَ ءَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ ۝٤١
Hamid S. Aziz
And certainly the warning came to Pharaoh´s people
walaqad jāa āla fir'ʿawna l-nudhur
54:42 ›
كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذۡنَـٰهُمۡ أَخۡذَ عَزِیزࣲ مُّقۡتَدِرٍ ۝٤٢
Hamid S. Aziz
They rejected all Our Signs, so We overtook them with such a penalty as comes from One Mighty, Powerful
kadhabū biāyātinā kullihā fa-akhadhnāhum akhdha ʿazīzin muq'tadiri
54:43 ›
أَكُفَّارُكُمۡ خَیۡرࣱ مِّنۡ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكُمۡ أَمۡ لَكُم بَرَاۤءَةࣱ فِی ٱلزُّبُرِ ۝٤٣
Hamid S. Aziz
Are the unbelievers of yours (O Quraish) better than these, or is there an exemption for you in the Sacred Books
akuffārukum khayrun min ulāikum am lakum barāatun fī l-zubur
54:44 ›
أَمۡ یَقُولُونَ نَحۡنُ جَمِیعࣱ مُّنتَصِرࣱ ۝٤٤
Hamid S. Aziz
Or do they say, "We are a host allied together to help each other
am yaqūlūna naḥnu jamīʿun muntaṣiru
54:45 ›
سَیُهۡزَمُ ٱلۡجَمۡعُ وَیُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ ۝٤٥
Hamid S. Aziz
But soon shall the hosts be routed, and they shall flee
sayuh'zamu l-jamʿu wayuwallūna l-dubur
54:46 ›
بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوۡعِدُهُمۡ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدۡهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ ۝٤٦
Hamid S. Aziz
Nay, the Hour is their promised time, and the Hour shall be most grievous and bitter
bali l-sāʿatu mawʿiduhum wal-sāʿatu adhā wa-amarr
54:47 ›
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ فِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ وَسُعُرࣲ ۝٤٧
Hamid S. Aziz
Surely it is the guilty who are in error and madness
inna l-muj'rimīna fī ḍalālin wasuʿuri
54:48 ›
یَوۡمَ یُسۡحَبُونَ فِی ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمۡ ذُوقُوا۟ مَسَّ سَقَرَ ۝٤٨
Hamid S. Aziz
On the day when they shall be dragged upon their faces into the Fire, "Taste the touch of hell."
yawma yus'ḥabūna fī l-nāri ʿalā wujūhihim dhūqū massa saqar
54:49 ›
إِنَّا كُلَّ شَیۡءٍ خَلَقۡنَـٰهُ بِقَدَرࣲ ۝٤٩
Hamid S. Aziz
Surely We have created everything according to a measure
innā kulla shayin khalaqnāhu biqadari
54:50 ›
وَمَاۤ أَمۡرُنَاۤ إِلَّا وَ ٰحِدَةࣱ كَلَمۡحِۭ بِٱلۡبَصَرِ ۝٥٠
Hamid S. Aziz
And Our command is but one, as the twinkling of an eye
wamā amrunā illā wāḥidatun kalamḥin bil-baṣar
54:51 ›
وَلَقَدۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَاۤ أَشۡیَاعَكُمۡ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرࣲ ۝٥١
Hamid S. Aziz
And certainly We have already destroyed the likes of you, but is there anyone who will heed
walaqad ahlaknā ashyāʿakum fahal min muddakiri
54:52 ›
وَكُلُّ شَیۡءࣲ فَعَلُوهُ فِی ٱلزُّبُرِ ۝٥٢
Hamid S. Aziz
And everything they did is in the Scriptures (or the Record)
wakullu shayin faʿalūhu fī l-zubur
54:53 ›
وَكُلُّ صَغِیرࣲ وَكَبِیرࣲ مُّسۡتَطَرٌ ۝٥٣
Hamid S. Aziz
And everything small and great is recorded
wakullu ṣaghīrin wakabīrin mus'taṭaru
54:54 ›
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ فِی جَنَّـٰتࣲ وَنَهَرࣲ ۝٥٤
Hamid S. Aziz
Surely the righteous (who guard against evil) shall dwell among Gardens and Rivers
inna l-mutaqīna fī jannātin wanahari
54:55 ›
فِی مَقۡعَدِ صِدۡقٍ عِندَ مَلِیكࣲ مُّقۡتَدِرِۭ ۝٥٥
Hamid S. Aziz
Established in the Assembly of Truth in the presence of an Omnipotent Sovereign
fī maqʿadi ṣid'qin ʿinda malīkin muq'tadiri
