1 Ultimate Triumph of Unity

ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَجَعَلَ ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ وَٱلنُّورَۖ ثُمَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِرَبِّهِمۡ یَعۡدِلُونَ ۝١

All praise belongs to ALLAH Who created the heavens and the earth and brought into being darkness and light; yet those who disbelieve set up equals to their Lord

al-ḥamdu lillahi alladhī khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa wajaʿala l-ẓulumāti wal-nūra thumma alladhīna kafarū birabbihim yaʿdilūn

هُوَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَكُم مِّن طِینࣲ ثُمَّ قَضَىٰۤ أَجَلࣰاۖ وَأَجَلࣱ مُّسَمًّى عِندَهُۥۖ ثُمَّ أَنتُمۡ تَمۡتَرُونَ ۝٢

HE it is Who created you from clay and then HE decreed a term. And there is another term fixed with HIM. Yet you doubt

huwa alladhī khalaqakum min ṭīnin thumma qaḍā ajalan wa-ajalun musamman ʿindahu thumma antum tamtarūn

وَهُوَ ٱللَّهُ فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَفِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ یَعۡلَمُ سِرَّكُمۡ وَجَهۡرَكُمۡ وَیَعۡلَمُ مَا تَكۡسِبُونَ ۝٣

And HE is ALLAH, the God, both in the heavens and in the earth. HE knows what you disclose and your secrets. And HE knows what you earn

wahuwa l-lahu fī l-samāwāti wafī l-arḍi yaʿlamu sirrakum wajahrakum wayaʿlamu mā taksibūn

وَمَا تَأۡتِیهِم مِّنۡ ءَایَةࣲ مِّنۡ ءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ عَنۡهَا مُعۡرِضِینَ ۝٤

And there comes not to them any Sign of the Signs of their Lord, but they turn away from it

wamā tatīhim min āyatin min āyāti rabbihim illā kānū ʿanhā muʿ'riḍīn

فَقَدۡ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِٱلۡحَقِّ لَمَّا جَاۤءَهُمۡ فَسَوۡفَ یَأۡتِیهِمۡ أَنۢبَـٰۤؤُا۟ مَا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ یَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ۝٥

So they rejected the truth when it came to them; but soon shall come to them the tidings of that at which they mocked

faqad kadhabū bil-ḥaqi lammā jāahum fasawfa yatīhim anbāu mā kānū bihi yastahziūn

أَلَمۡ یَرَوۡا۟ كَمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَا مِن قَبۡلِهِم مِّن قَرۡنࣲ مَّكَّنَّـٰهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مَا لَمۡ نُمَكِّن لَّكُمۡ وَأَرۡسَلۡنَا ٱلسَّمَاۤءَ عَلَیۡهِم مِّدۡرَارࣰا وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرَ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهِمۡ فَأَهۡلَكۡنَـٰهُم بِذُنُوبِهِمۡ وَأَنشَأۡنَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ قَرۡنًا ءَاخَرِینَ ۝٦

See they not how many a generation WE have destroyed before them? WE had established them in the earth as WE have not established you and WE sent the clouds over them, pouring down abundant rain; and WE caused streams to flow beneath them; then did WE destroy them because of their sins and raised up after them another generation

alam yaraw kam ahlaknā min qablihim min qarnin makkannāhum fī l-arḍi mā lam numakkin lakum wa-arsalnā l-samāa ʿalayhim mid'rāran wajaʿalnā l-anhāra tajrī min taḥtihim fa-ahlaknāhum bidhunūbihim wa-anshanā min baʿdihim qarnan ākharīn

وَلَوۡ نَزَّلۡنَا عَلَیۡكَ كِتَـٰبࣰا فِی قِرۡطَاسࣲ فَلَمَسُوهُ بِأَیۡدِیهِمۡ لَقَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوۤا۟ إِنۡ هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّا سِحۡرࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٧

And if WE had sent down to thee a writing upon the parchment and they had felt it with their hands even then the disbelievers would have surely said, `This is nothing but manifest sorcery.

walaw nazzalnā ʿalayka kitāban fī qir'ṭāsin falamasūhu bi-aydīhim laqāla alladhīna kafarū in hādhā illā siḥ'run mubīnu

وَقَالُوا۟ لَوۡلَاۤ أُنزِلَ عَلَیۡهِ مَلَكࣱۖ وَلَوۡ أَنزَلۡنَا مَلَكࣰا لَّقُضِیَ ٱلۡأَمۡرُ ثُمَّ لَا یُنظَرُونَ ۝٨

And they say, `Why has not an angel been sent down to him?' And if WE had sent down an angel, the matter would have been decided, and then they would have been granted no respite

waqālū lawlā unzila ʿalayhi malakun walaw anzalnā malakan laquḍiya l-amru thumma lā yunẓarūn

وَلَوۡ جَعَلۡنَـٰهُ مَلَكࣰا لَّجَعَلۡنَـٰهُ رَجُلࣰا وَلَلَبَسۡنَا عَلَیۡهِم مَّا یَلۡبِسُونَ ۝٩

And if WE had appointed as Messenger an angel, WE would have made him appear as a man; and thus WE would have caused to be confused to them that which they are themselves confusing

walaw jaʿalnāhu malakan lajaʿalnāhu rajulan walalabasnā ʿalayhim mā yalbisūn

وَلَقَدِ ٱسۡتُهۡزِئَ بِرُسُلࣲ مِّن قَبۡلِكَ فَحَاقَ بِٱلَّذِینَ سَخِرُوا۟ مِنۡهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ یَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ۝١٠

And surely the Messengers have been mocked at before thee, but that which they mocked at encompassed those of them who scoffed at it

walaqadi us'tuh'zi-a birusulin min qablika faḥāqa bi-alladhīna sakhirū min'hum mā kānū bihi yastahziūn

2 Greatness of Divine Mercy

قُلۡ سِیرُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ثُمَّ ٱنظُرُوا۟ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبِینَ ۝١١

Say, `Go about in the earth and see what was the end of those who treated the Prophets as liars.

qul sīrū fī l-arḍi thumma unẓurū kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu l-mukadhibīn

قُل لِّمَن مَّا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ قُل لِّلَّهِۚ كَتَبَ عَلَىٰ نَفۡسِهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَةَۚ لَیَجۡمَعَنَّكُمۡ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ لَا رَیۡبَ فِیهِۚ ٱلَّذِینَ خَسِرُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ فَهُمۡ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١٢

Say, `To whom belongs what is in the heavens and the earth?' Say, `To ALLAH.' HE has taken upon Himself to show mercy. HE will certainly continue to assemble you till the Day of Resurrection. There is no doubt in it. Those who have ruined their souls will not believe

qul liman mā fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi qul lillahi kataba ʿalā nafsihi l-raḥmata layajmaʿannakum ilā yawmi l-qiyāmati lā rayba fīhi alladhīna khasirū anfusahum fahum lā yu'minūn

۞ وَلَهُۥ مَا سَكَنَ فِی ٱلَّیۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِۚ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِیعُ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ۝١٣

To HIM belongs whatever exists in the darkness of the night and the light of the day. And HE is All-Hearing, the All-Knowing

walahu mā sakana fī al-layli wal-nahāri wahuwa l-samīʿu l-ʿalīm

قُلۡ أَغَیۡرَ ٱللَّهِ أَتَّخِذُ وَلِیࣰّا فَاطِرِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَهُوَ یُطۡعِمُ وَلَا یُطۡعَمُۗ قُلۡ إِنِّیۤ أُمِرۡتُ أَنۡ أَكُونَ أَوَّلَ مَنۡ أَسۡلَمَۖ وَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ ۝١٤

Say, `Shall I take any protector other than ALLAH, the Maker of the heavens and the earth, Who feeds and is not fed?' Say, `I have been commanded to be the first of those who submit.' And be thou not of those who associate partners with ALLAH

qul aghayra l-lahi attakhidhu waliyyan fāṭiri l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wahuwa yuṭ'ʿimu walā yuṭ'ʿamu qul innī umir'tu an akūna awwala man aslama walā takūnanna mina l-mush'rikīn

قُلۡ إِنِّیۤ أَخَافُ إِنۡ عَصَیۡتُ رَبِّی عَذَابَ یَوۡمٍ عَظِیمࣲ ۝١٥

Say, `Indeed I fear, if I disobey my Lord, the punishment of an awful day.

qul innī akhāfu in ʿaṣaytu rabbī ʿadhāba yawmin ʿaẓīmi

مَّن یُصۡرَفۡ عَنۡهُ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ فَقَدۡ رَحِمَهُۥۚ وَذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡمُبِینُ ۝١٦

He from whom it is averted on that day, ALLAH indeed has had mercy on him. And that indeed is a manifest achievement

man yuṣ'raf ʿanhu yawma-idhin faqad raḥimahu wadhālika l-fawzu l-mubīn

وَإِن یَمۡسَسۡكَ ٱللَّهُ بِضُرࣲّ فَلَا كَاشِفَ لَهُۥۤ إِلَّا هُوَۖ وَإِن یَمۡسَسۡكَ بِخَیۡرࣲ فَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ قَدِیرࣱ ۝١٧

And if ALLAH touch thee with affliction, there is none to remove it but HE; and if HE touch thee with happiness, then HE has the power to do all that HE wills

wa-in yamsaska l-lahu biḍurrin falā kāshifa lahu illā huwa wa-in yamsaska bikhayrin fahuwa ʿalā kulli shayin qadīru

وَهُوَ ٱلۡقَاهِرُ فَوۡقَ عِبَادِهِۦۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡحَكِیمُ ٱلۡخَبِیرُ ۝١٨

And HE is supreme over HIS servants; and HE is the Wise, the All-Aware

wahuwa l-qāhiru fawqa ʿibādihi wahuwa l-ḥakīmu l-khabīr

قُلۡ أَیُّ شَیۡءٍ أَكۡبَرُ شَهَـٰدَةࣰۖ قُلِ ٱللَّهُۖ شَهِیدُۢ بَیۡنِی وَبَیۡنَكُمۡۚ وَأُوحِیَ إِلَیَّ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانُ لِأُنذِرَكُم بِهِۦ وَمَنۢ بَلَغَۚ أَىِٕنَّكُمۡ لَتَشۡهَدُونَ أَنَّ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةً أُخۡرَىٰۚ قُل لَّاۤ أَشۡهَدُۚ قُلۡ إِنَّمَا هُوَ إِلَـٰهࣱ وَ ٰحِدࣱ وَإِنَّنِی بَرِیۤءࣱ مِّمَّا تُشۡرِكُونَ ۝١٩

Say, `What thing is the weightiest in testimony.' Say, `ALLAH is a Witness between me and you. And this Qur'an has been revealed to me so that with it I may warn you, as well as whomsoever it reaches, of the impending punishment. What ! do you really bear witness that there are other gods besides ALLAH?' Say, `I bear not witness thereto.' Say, `HE is the One God, and certainly I am innocent of that which you associate with HIM.

qul ayyu shayin akbaru shahādatan quli l-lahu shahīdun baynī wabaynakum waūḥiya ilayya hādhā l-qur'ānu li-undhirakum bihi waman balagha a-innakum latashhadūna anna maʿa l-lahi ālihatan ukh'rā qul lā ashhadu qul innamā huwa ilāhun wāḥidun wa-innanī barīon mimmā tush'rikūn

ٱلَّذِینَ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُمُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ یَعۡرِفُونَهُۥ كَمَا یَعۡرِفُونَ أَبۡنَاۤءَهُمُۘ ٱلَّذِینَ خَسِرُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ فَهُمۡ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٢٠

Those to whom WE gave the Book recognize him as they recognize their sons. But those who ruin their souls - they will not believe

alladhīna ātaynāhumu l-kitāba yaʿrifūnahu kamā yaʿrifūna abnāahumu alladhīna khasirū anfusahum fahum lā yu'minūn

3 Polytheists' witness against self

وَمَنۡ أَظۡلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفۡتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا أَوۡ كَذَّبَ بِءَایَـٰتِهِۦۤۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا یُفۡلِحُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ ۝٢١

And who is more unjust than he who forges a lie against ALLAH or treat HIS Signs as lies? Surely the unjust shall not prosper

waman aẓlamu mimmani if'tarā ʿalā l-lahi kadhiban aw kadhaba biāyātihi innahu lā yuf'liḥu l-ẓālimūn

وَیَوۡمَ نَحۡشُرُهُمۡ جَمِیعࣰا ثُمَّ نَقُولُ لِلَّذِینَ أَشۡرَكُوۤا۟ أَیۡنَ شُرَكَاۤؤُكُمُ ٱلَّذِینَ كُنتُمۡ تَزۡعُمُونَ ۝٢٢

And think of the day when WE shall gather them all together; then shall WE say to those who associated partners with ALLAH, `Where are the partners you spoke of - those whom you asserted?

wayawma naḥshuruhum jamīʿan thumma naqūlu lilladhīna ashrakū ayna shurakāukumu alladhīna kuntum tazʿumūn

ثُمَّ لَمۡ تَكُن فِتۡنَتُهُمۡ إِلَّاۤ أَن قَالُوا۟ وَٱللَّهِ رَبِّنَا مَا كُنَّا مُشۡرِكِینَ ۝٢٣

Then they will have no excuse save that they shall say, `By ALLAH, our Lord, we were not idolaters.

thumma lam takun fit'natuhum illā an qālū wal-lahi rabbinā mā kunnā mush'rikīn

ٱنظُرۡ كَیۡفَ كَذَبُوا۟ عَلَىٰۤ أَنفُسِهِمۡۚ وَضَلَّ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ یَفۡتَرُونَ ۝٢٤

See how they shall lie against themselves. And that which they fabricated shall fail them

unẓur kayfa kadhabū ʿalā anfusihim waḍalla ʿanhum mā kānū yaftarūn

وَمِنۡهُم مَّن یَسۡتَمِعُ إِلَیۡكَۖ وَجَعَلۡنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ أَكِنَّةً أَن یَفۡقَهُوهُ وَفِیۤ ءَاذَانِهِمۡ وَقۡرࣰاۚ وَإِن یَرَوۡا۟ كُلَّ ءَایَةࣲ لَّا یُؤۡمِنُوا۟ بِهَاۖ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا جَاۤءُوكَ یُجَـٰدِلُونَكَ یَقُولُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوۤا۟ إِنۡ هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّاۤ أَسَـٰطِیرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ ۝٢٥

And among them are some who give ear to thee; but WE have put veils on their hearts, that they should not understand, and deafness in their ears. And even if they see every Sign, they would not believe therein, so much so that when they come to thee, disputing with thee, those who disbelieve say, `This is nothing but fables of the ancients.

wamin'hum man yastamiʿu ilayka wajaʿalnā ʿalā qulūbihim akinnatan an yafqahūhu wafī ādhānihim waqran wa-in yaraw kulla āyatin lā yu'minū bihā ḥattā idhā jāūka yujādilūnaka yaqūlu alladhīna kafarū in hādhā illā asāṭīru l-awalīn

وَهُمۡ یَنۡهَوۡنَ عَنۡهُ وَیَنۡءَوۡنَ عَنۡهُۖ وَإِن یُهۡلِكُونَ إِلَّاۤ أَنفُسَهُمۡ وَمَا یَشۡعُرُونَ ۝٢٦

And they forbid others to believe in it and themselves too they keep away from it. And they ruin none but their ownselves; only they perceive not

wahum yanhawna ʿanhu wayanawna ʿanhu wa-in yuh'likūna illā anfusahum wamā yashʿurūn

وَلَوۡ تَرَىٰۤ إِذۡ وُقِفُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ فَقَالُوا۟ یَـٰلَیۡتَنَا نُرَدُّ وَلَا نُكَذِّبَ بِءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّنَا وَنَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٢٧

And if thou couldst only see when they are made to stand before the Fire ! They will say, `Oh, would that we might be sent back ! And then we would not treat the Signs of our Lord as lies and we would be of the believers.

walaw tarā idh wuqifū ʿalā l-nāri faqālū yālaytanā nuraddu walā nukadhiba biāyāti rabbinā wanakūna mina l-mu'minīn

بَلۡ بَدَا لَهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ یُخۡفُونَ مِن قَبۡلُۖ وَلَوۡ رُدُّوا۟ لَعَادُوا۟ لِمَا نُهُوا۟ عَنۡهُ وَإِنَّهُمۡ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ ۝٢٨

Nay, that which they used to hide before has now become clear to them. And if they were sent back, they would surely return to that which they are forbidden. And they are certainly liars

bal badā lahum mā kānū yukh'fūna min qablu walaw ruddū laʿādū limā nuhū ʿanhu wa-innahum lakādhibūn

وَقَالُوۤا۟ إِنۡ هِیَ إِلَّا حَیَاتُنَا ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَبۡعُوثِینَ ۝٢٩

And they say, `There is nothing except this our present life, and we shall not be raised again.

waqālū in hiya illā ḥayātunā l-dun'yā wamā naḥnu bimabʿūthīn

وَلَوۡ تَرَىٰۤ إِذۡ وُقِفُوا۟ عَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡۚ قَالَ أَلَیۡسَ هَـٰذَا بِٱلۡحَقِّۚ قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ وَرَبِّنَاۚ قَالَ فَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡفُرُونَ ۝٣٠

And if thou couldst only see when they are made to stand before their Lord, HE will say, `Is not this second life the truth? They will say, `Yea, by our Lord.' HE will say, `Then taste the punishment because you disbelieved.

walaw tarā idh wuqifū ʿalā rabbihim qāla alaysa hādhā bil-ḥaqi qālū balā warabbinā qāla fadhūqū l-ʿadhāba bimā kuntum takfurūn

4 Rejection of Truth

قَدۡ خَسِرَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِلِقَاۤءِ ٱللَّهِۖ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا جَاۤءَتۡهُمُ ٱلسَّاعَةُ بَغۡتَةࣰ قَالُوا۟ یَـٰحَسۡرَتَنَا عَلَىٰ مَا فَرَّطۡنَا فِیهَا وَهُمۡ یَحۡمِلُونَ أَوۡزَارَهُمۡ عَلَىٰ ظُهُورِهِمۡۚ أَلَا سَاۤءَ مَا یَزِرُونَ ۝٣١

Those indeed are the losers who deny the meeting with ALLAH, so much so, that when the Hour shall come on them unawares, they will say, `O our grief for our neglecting this Hour !' And they shall bear their burdens on their backs. Surely, evil is that which they bear

qad khasira alladhīna kadhabū biliqāi l-lahi ḥattā idhā jāathumu l-sāʿatu baghtatan qālū yāḥasratanā ʿalā mā farraṭnā fīhā wahum yaḥmilūna awzārahum ʿalā ẓuhūrihim alā sāa mā yazirūn

وَمَا ٱلۡحَیَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡیَاۤ إِلَّا لَعِبࣱ وَلَهۡوࣱۖ وَلَلدَّارُ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةُ خَیۡرࣱ لِّلَّذِینَ یَتَّقُونَۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ ۝٣٢

And the life of this world is nothing but a sport and pastime. And surely the abode of the Hereafter is better for those who are righteous. Will you not then understand

wamā l-ḥayatu l-dun'yā illā laʿibun walahwun walalddāru l-ākhiratu khayrun lilladhīna yattaqūna afalā taʿqilūn

قَدۡ نَعۡلَمُ إِنَّهُۥ لَیَحۡزُنُكَ ٱلَّذِی یَقُولُونَۖ فَإِنَّهُمۡ لَا یُكَذِّبُونَكَ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ بِءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ یَجۡحَدُونَ ۝٣٣

WE know indeed that what they say grieves thee; for surely it is not thee that they charge with falsehood but it is the Signs of ALLAH that the evil-doers reject

qad naʿlamu innahu layaḥzunuka alladhī yaqūlūna fa-innahum lā yukadhibūnaka walākinna l-ẓālimīna biāyāti l-lahi yajḥadūn

وَلَقَدۡ كُذِّبَتۡ رُسُلࣱ مِّن قَبۡلِكَ فَصَبَرُوا۟ عَلَىٰ مَا كُذِّبُوا۟ وَأُوذُوا۟ حَتَّىٰۤ أَتَىٰهُمۡ نَصۡرُنَاۚ وَلَا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِۚ وَلَقَدۡ جَاۤءَكَ مِن نَّبَإِی۟ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝٣٤

And the Messengers indeed have been rejected before thee, but notwithstanding their rejection and persecution they remained patient until OUR help came to them. There is none to change the words of ALLAH. And there have already come to thee some of the tidings of the past Messengers

walaqad kudhibat rusulun min qablika faṣabarū ʿalā mā kudhibū waūdhū ḥattā atāhum naṣrunā walā mubaddila likalimāti l-lahi walaqad jāaka min naba-i l-mur'salīn

وَإِن كَانَ كَبُرَ عَلَیۡكَ إِعۡرَاضُهُمۡ فَإِنِ ٱسۡتَطَعۡتَ أَن تَبۡتَغِیَ نَفَقࣰا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَوۡ سُلَّمࣰا فِی ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ فَتَأۡتِیَهُم بِءَایَةࣲۚ وَلَوۡ شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ لَجَمَعَهُمۡ عَلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰۚ فَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡجَـٰهِلِینَ ۝٣٥

And if their turning away is hard on thee, then, if thou art able to seek a passage into the earth or a ladder unto heaven and bring them a Sign, thou canst do so. And had ALLAH enforced HIS will, HE could surely have brought them all together to the guidance. So be thou not of those who lack knowledge

wa-in kāna kabura ʿalayka iʿ'rāḍuhum fa-ini is'taṭaʿta an tabtaghiya nafaqan fī l-arḍi aw sullaman fī l-samāi fatatiyahum biāyatin walaw shāa l-lahu lajamaʿahum ʿalā l-hudā falā takūnanna mina l-jāhilīn

۞ إِنَّمَا یَسۡتَجِیبُ ٱلَّذِینَ یَسۡمَعُونَۘ وَٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ یَبۡعَثُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ثُمَّ إِلَیۡهِ یُرۡجَعُونَ ۝٣٦

Only those can accept the truth who listen. And as for the dead, ALLAH will raise them to life, then to HIM shall they all be brought back

innamā yastajību alladhīna yasmaʿūna wal-mawtā yabʿathuhumu l-lahu thumma ilayhi yur'jaʿūn

وَقَالُوا۟ لَوۡلَا نُزِّلَ عَلَیۡهِ ءَایَةࣱ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦۚ قُلۡ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَادِرٌ عَلَىٰۤ أَن یُنَزِّلَ ءَایَةࣰ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣٧

And they say, `Why has not a Sign been sent down to him from his Lord?' Say, `Surely ALLAH has the power to send down a Sign, but most of them do not know.

waqālū lawlā nuzzila ʿalayhi āyatun min rabbihi qul inna l-laha qādirun ʿalā an yunazzila āyatan walākinna aktharahum lā yaʿlamūn

وَمَا مِن دَاۤبَّةࣲ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَا طَـٰۤىِٕرࣲ یَطِیرُ بِجَنَاحَیۡهِ إِلَّاۤ أُمَمٌ أَمۡثَالُكُمۚ مَّا فَرَّطۡنَا فِی ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ مِن شَیۡءࣲۚ ثُمَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡ یُحۡشَرُونَ ۝٣٨

There is not an animal that crawls in the earth, nor a bird that flies on its two wings, but they are communities like you. WE have left out nothing in the Book. Then to their Lord shall they all be gathered together

wamā min dābbatin fī l-arḍi walā ṭāirin yaṭīru bijanāḥayhi illā umamun amthālukum mā farraṭnā fī l-kitābi min shayin thumma ilā rabbihim yuḥ'sharūn

وَٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا صُمࣱّ وَبُكۡمࣱ فِی ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِۗ مَن یَشَإِ ٱللَّهُ یُضۡلِلۡهُ وَمَن یَشَأۡ یَجۡعَلۡهُ عَلَىٰ صِرَ ٰطࣲ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣲ ۝٣٩

Those who have rejected OUR signs are deaf and dumb, in utter darkness. Whom ALLAH wills HE lets go astray and whom HE wills HE places on the right path

wa-alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā ṣummun wabuk'mun fī l-ẓulumāti man yasha-i l-lahu yuḍ'lil'hu waman yasha yajʿalhu ʿalā ṣirāṭin mus'taqīmi

قُلۡ أَرَءَیۡتَكُمۡ إِنۡ أَتَىٰكُمۡ عَذَابُ ٱللَّهِ أَوۡ أَتَتۡكُمُ ٱلسَّاعَةُ أَغَیۡرَ ٱللَّهِ تَدۡعُونَ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝٤٠

Say,`Will you tell me if the punishment of ALLAH come or there come upon you the Hour, will you call upon any other than ALLAH, if you are truthful

qul ara-aytakum in atākum ʿadhābu l-lahi aw atatkumu l-sāʿatu aghayra l-lahi tadʿūna in kuntum ṣādiqīn

بَلۡ إِیَّاهُ تَدۡعُونَ فَیَكۡشِفُ مَا تَدۡعُونَ إِلَیۡهِ إِن شَاۤءَ وَتَنسَوۡنَ مَا تُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٤١

Nay, but on HIM alone will you call; then will HE remove, if HE pleases, that which you call on HIM to remove, and you will forget what you associate with HIM.

bal iyyāhu tadʿūna fayakshifu mā tadʿūna ilayhi in shāa watansawna mā tush'rikūn

5 Consequences of Rejection

وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَاۤ إِلَىٰۤ أُمَمࣲ مِّن قَبۡلِكَ فَأَخَذۡنَـٰهُم بِٱلۡبَأۡسَاۤءِ وَٱلضَّرَّاۤءِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَتَضَرَّعُونَ ۝٤٢

And indeed WE sent Messengers to peoples before thee; then WE afflicted them with poverty and adversity that they might humble themselves

walaqad arsalnā ilā umamin min qablika fa-akhadhnāhum bil-basāi wal-ḍarāi laʿallahum yataḍarraʿūn

فَلَوۡلَاۤ إِذۡ جَاۤءَهُم بَأۡسُنَا تَضَرَّعُوا۟ وَلَـٰكِن قَسَتۡ قُلُوبُهُمۡ وَزَیَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُ مَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٤٣

Why, then, when OUR punishment came upon them, did they not humble themselves? But their hearts were hardened all the more and Satan made all that they did seem fair to them

falawlā idh jāahum basunā taḍarraʿū walākin qasat qulūbuhum wazayyana lahumu l-shayṭānu mā kānū yaʿmalūn

فَلَمَّا نَسُوا۟ مَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ بِهِۦ فَتَحۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ أَبۡوَ ٰبَ كُلِّ شَیۡءٍ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا فَرِحُوا۟ بِمَاۤ أُوتُوۤا۟ أَخَذۡنَـٰهُم بَغۡتَةࣰ فَإِذَا هُم مُّبۡلِسُونَ ۝٤٤

When they forgot that with which they had been admonished, and WE opened unto them the gates of all things, till, even as they were rejoicing in what they were given, WE seized them suddenly, and lo ! they were in utter despair

falammā nasū mā dhukkirū bihi fataḥnā ʿalayhim abwāba kulli shayin ḥattā idhā fariḥū bimā ūtū akhadhnāhum baghtatan fa-idhā hum mub'lisūn

فَقُطِعَ دَابِرُ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ۚ وَٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٤٥

So the last remnant of the people who did wrong was cut off; and all praise belongs to ALLAH, the Lord of all the worlds

faquṭiʿa dābiru l-qawmi alladhīna ẓalamū wal-ḥamdu lillahi rabbi l-ʿālamīn

قُلۡ أَرَءَیۡتُمۡ إِنۡ أَخَذَ ٱللَّهُ سَمۡعَكُمۡ وَأَبۡصَـٰرَكُمۡ وَخَتَمَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِكُم مَّنۡ إِلَـٰهٌ غَیۡرُ ٱللَّهِ یَأۡتِیكُم بِهِۗ ٱنظُرۡ كَیۡفَ نُصَرِّفُ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ ثُمَّ هُمۡ یَصۡدِفُونَ ۝٤٦

Say, `Will you tell me, if ALLAH should take away your hearing and your sight, and seal up your hearts, who is the god other than ALLAH who can bring it back to you?' See how WE expound the Signs in various ways, yet they turn away

qul ara-aytum in akhadha l-lahu samʿakum wa-abṣārakum wakhatama ʿalā qulūbikum man ilāhun ghayru l-lahi yatīkum bihi unẓur kayfa nuṣarrifu l-āyāti thumma hum yaṣdifūn

قُلۡ أَرَءَیۡتَكُمۡ إِنۡ أَتَىٰكُمۡ عَذَابُ ٱللَّهِ بَغۡتَةً أَوۡ جَهۡرَةً هَلۡ یُهۡلَكُ إِلَّا ٱلۡقَوۡمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ ۝٤٧

Say, `Will you tell me, if the punishment of ALLAH come upon you suddenly or openly, will any be destroyed save the wrongdoing people?

qul ara-aytakum in atākum ʿadhābu l-lahi baghtatan aw jahratan hal yuh'laku illā l-qawmu l-ẓālimūn

وَمَا نُرۡسِلُ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ إِلَّا مُبَشِّرِینَ وَمُنذِرِینَۖ فَمَنۡ ءَامَنَ وَأَصۡلَحَ فَلَا خَوۡفٌ عَلَیۡهِمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ یَحۡزَنُونَ ۝٤٨

And WE sent not the Messengers but as bearers of glad tidings and as Warners. So those who believe and reform themselves, on them shall come no fear nor shall they grieve

wamā nur'silu l-mur'salīna illā mubashirīna wamundhirīna faman āmana wa-aṣlaḥa falā khawfun ʿalayhim walā hum yaḥzanūn

وَٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا یَمَسُّهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَفۡسُقُونَ ۝٤٩

And those who reject our Signs, punishment will touch them, because they disobeyed

wa-alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā yamassuhumu l-ʿadhābu bimā kānū yafsuqūn

قُل لَّاۤ أَقُولُ لَكُمۡ عِندِی خَزَاۤىِٕنُ ٱللَّهِ وَلَاۤ أَعۡلَمُ ٱلۡغَیۡبَ وَلَاۤ أَقُولُ لَكُمۡ إِنِّی مَلَكٌۖ إِنۡ أَتَّبِعُ إِلَّا مَا یُوحَىٰۤ إِلَیَّۚ قُلۡ هَلۡ یَسۡتَوِی ٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ وَٱلۡبَصِیرُۚ أَفَلَا تَتَفَكَّرُونَ ۝٥٠

Say, `I do not say to you: `I possess the treasures of ALLAH, nor do I know the unseen; nor do I say to you: `I am an angel, I follow only that which is revealed to me.' Say, `Can a blind man and one who sees be alike?' Will you not then reflect

qul lā aqūlu lakum ʿindī khazāinu l-lahi walā aʿlamu l-ghayba walā aqūlu lakum innī malakun in attabiʿu illā mā yūḥā ilayya qul hal yastawī l-aʿmā wal-baṣīru afalā tatafakkarūn

6 Reward of Believers

وَأَنذِرۡ بِهِ ٱلَّذِینَ یَخَافُونَ أَن یُحۡشَرُوۤا۟ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡ لَیۡسَ لَهُم مِّن دُونِهِۦ وَلِیࣱّ وَلَا شَفِیعࣱ لَّعَلَّهُمۡ یَتَّقُونَ ۝٥١

And warn thereby those who fear that they shall be gathered to their Lord that they shall have no friend nor intercessor besides HIM, so that they may become righteous

wa-andhir bihi alladhīna yakhāfūna an yuḥ'sharū ilā rabbihim laysa lahum min dūnihi waliyyun walā shafīʿun laʿallahum yattaqūn

وَلَا تَطۡرُدِ ٱلَّذِینَ یَدۡعُونَ رَبَّهُم بِٱلۡغَدَوٰةِ وَٱلۡعَشِیِّ یُرِیدُونَ وَجۡهَهُۥۖ مَا عَلَیۡكَ مِنۡ حِسَابِهِم مِّن شَیۡءࣲ وَمَا مِنۡ حِسَابِكَ عَلَیۡهِم مِّن شَیۡءࣲ فَتَطۡرُدَهُمۡ فَتَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٥٢

And drive not away those who call upon their Lord morning and evening, seeking HIS pleasure. Thou art not at all accountable for them nor are they accountable for thee. So if thou shouldst drive them away thou wilt be of the unjust

walā taṭrudi alladhīna yadʿūna rabbahum bil-ghadati wal-ʿashiyi yurīdūna wajhahu mā ʿalayka min ḥisābihim min shayin wamā min ḥisābika ʿalayhim min shayin fataṭrudahum fatakūna mina l-ẓālimīn

وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ فَتَنَّا بَعۡضَهُم بِبَعۡضࣲ لِّیَقُولُوۤا۟ أَهَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ مَنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَیۡهِم مِّنۢ بَیۡنِنَاۤۗ أَلَیۡسَ ٱللَّهُ بِأَعۡلَمَ بِٱلشَّـٰكِرِینَ ۝٥٣

And in the like manner have WE tried some of them by others, that they may say, `Is it these whom ALLAH has favoured from among us?' Does not ALLAH know best those who are grateful

wakadhālika fatannā baʿḍahum bibaʿḍin liyaqūlū ahāulāi manna l-lahu ʿalayhim min bayninā alaysa l-lahu bi-aʿlama bil-shākirīn

وَإِذَا جَاۤءَكَ ٱلَّذِینَ یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا فَقُلۡ سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَیۡكُمۡۖ كَتَبَ رَبُّكُمۡ عَلَىٰ نَفۡسِهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَةَ أَنَّهُۥ مَنۡ عَمِلَ مِنكُمۡ سُوۤءَۢا بِجَهَـٰلَةࣲ ثُمَّ تَابَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦ وَأَصۡلَحَ فَأَنَّهُۥ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝٥٤

And when those who believe in OUR Signs come to thee, say; `Peace be unto you ! Your Lord has taken it upon Himself to show mercy, so that whoso among you does evil in ignorance and repents thereafter and reforms, then HE is Most Forgiving and Merciful.

wa-idhā jāaka alladhīna yu'minūna biāyātinā faqul salāmun ʿalaykum kataba rabbukum ʿalā nafsihi l-raḥmata annahu man ʿamila minkum sūan bijahālatin thumma tāba min baʿdihi wa-aṣlaḥa fa-annahu ghafūrun raḥīmu

وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ وَلِتَسۡتَبِینَ سَبِیلُ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ ۝٥٥

And thus do WE expound the Signs that the truth may become manifest and that the way of the sinners may become clear

wakadhālika nufaṣṣilu l-āyāti walitastabīna sabīlu l-muj'rimīn

7 Divine Judgment

قُلۡ إِنِّی نُهِیتُ أَنۡ أَعۡبُدَ ٱلَّذِینَ تَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِۚ قُل لَّاۤ أَتَّبِعُ أَهۡوَاۤءَكُمۡ قَدۡ ضَلَلۡتُ إِذࣰا وَمَاۤ أَنَا۠ مِنَ ٱلۡمُهۡتَدِینَ ۝٥٦

Say, `I am forbidden to worship those on whom you call besides ALLAH.' Say, `I will not follow your low desires. In that case, I shall have gone astray and I shall not be of the rightly guided.

qul innī nuhītu an aʿbuda alladhīna tadʿūna min dūni l-lahi qul lā attabiʿu ahwāakum qad ḍalaltu idhan wamā anā mina l-muh'tadīn

قُلۡ إِنِّی عَلَىٰ بَیِّنَةࣲ مِّن رَّبِّی وَكَذَّبۡتُم بِهِۦۚ مَا عِندِی مَا تَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَ بِهِۦۤۚ إِنِ ٱلۡحُكۡمُ إِلَّا لِلَّهِۖ یَقُصُّ ٱلۡحَقَّۖ وَهُوَ خَیۡرُ ٱلۡفَـٰصِلِینَ ۝٥٧

Say, `I take my stand on a clear evidence from my Lord and you reject it. That which you desire to be hastened is not in my power. The decision rest with ALLAH alone. HE explains the truth and HE is the Best of Judges.

qul innī ʿalā bayyinatin min rabbī wakadhabtum bihi mā ʿindī mā tastaʿjilūna bihi ini l-ḥuk'mu illā lillahi yaquṣṣu l-ḥaqa wahuwa khayru l-fāṣilīn

قُل لَّوۡ أَنَّ عِندِی مَا تَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَ بِهِۦ لَقُضِیَ ٱلۡأَمۡرُ بَیۡنِی وَبَیۡنَكُمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ أَعۡلَمُ بِٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٥٨

Say, `If that which you desire to be hastened were in my power, surely the matter would have been decided between me and you. And ALLAH knows best the unjust.

qul law anna ʿindī mā tastaʿjilūna bihi laquḍiya l-amru baynī wabaynakum wal-lahu aʿlamu bil-ẓālimīn

۞ وَعِندَهُۥ مَفَاتِحُ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ لَا یَعۡلَمُهَاۤ إِلَّا هُوَۚ وَیَعۡلَمُ مَا فِی ٱلۡبَرِّ وَٱلۡبَحۡرِۚ وَمَا تَسۡقُطُ مِن وَرَقَةٍ إِلَّا یَعۡلَمُهَا وَلَا حَبَّةࣲ فِی ظُلُمَـٰتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَا رَطۡبࣲ وَلَا یَابِسٍ إِلَّا فِی كِتَـٰبࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝٥٩

And with HIM are the keys of the unseen; none knows them but HE. And HE knows whatsoever is in the land and in the sea. And there falls not a leaf but HE knows it; nor is there a grain in the deep darkness of the earth, nor anything green or dry, but it is recorded in a clear book

waʿindahu mafātiḥu l-ghaybi lā yaʿlamuhā illā huwa wayaʿlamu mā fī l-bari wal-baḥri wamā tasquṭu min waraqatin illā yaʿlamuhā walā ḥabbatin fī ẓulumāti l-arḍi walā raṭbin walā yābisin illā fī kitābin mubīni

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی یَتَوَفَّىٰكُم بِٱلَّیۡلِ وَیَعۡلَمُ مَا جَرَحۡتُم بِٱلنَّهَارِ ثُمَّ یَبۡعَثُكُمۡ فِیهِ لِیُقۡضَىٰۤ أَجَلࣱ مُّسَمࣰّىۖ ثُمَّ إِلَیۡهِ مَرۡجِعُكُمۡ ثُمَّ یُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٦٠

And HE it is who takes your soul by night and knows what you do by day, then HE raises you up again therein, that the appointed term may be completed. Then to HIM is your return. Then will HE inform you of what you used to do

wahuwa alladhī yatawaffākum bi-al-layli wayaʿlamu mā jaraḥtum bil-nahāri thumma yabʿathukum fīhi liyuq'ḍā ajalun musamman thumma ilayhi marjiʿukum thumma yunabbi-ukum bimā kuntum taʿmalūn

8 Divine Judgment

وَهُوَ ٱلۡقَاهِرُ فَوۡقَ عِبَادِهِۦۖ وَیُرۡسِلُ عَلَیۡكُمۡ حَفَظَةً حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا جَاۤءَ أَحَدَكُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡتُ تَوَفَّتۡهُ رُسُلُنَا وَهُمۡ لَا یُفَرِّطُونَ ۝٦١

And HE is Supreme over HIS servants, and HE sends guardians to watch over you, until, when death comes to anyone of you, OUR Messengers take his soul, and they fail not

wahuwa l-qāhiru fawqa ʿibādihi wayur'silu ʿalaykum ḥafaẓatan ḥattā idhā jāa aḥadakumu l-mawtu tawaffathu rusulunā wahum lā yufarriṭūn

ثُمَّ رُدُّوۤا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ مَوۡلَىٰهُمُ ٱلۡحَقِّۚ أَلَا لَهُ ٱلۡحُكۡمُ وَهُوَ أَسۡرَعُ ٱلۡحَـٰسِبِینَ ۝٦٢

Then they are returned to ALLAH, their true Lord. Surely, HIS is the judgment. And HE is the Swiftest of reckoners

thumma ruddū ilā l-lahi mawlāhumu l-ḥaqi alā lahu l-ḥuk'mu wahuwa asraʿu l-ḥāsibīn

قُلۡ مَن یُنَجِّیكُم مِّن ظُلُمَـٰتِ ٱلۡبَرِّ وَٱلۡبَحۡرِ تَدۡعُونَهُۥ تَضَرُّعࣰا وَخُفۡیَةࣰ لَّىِٕنۡ أَنجَىٰنَا مِنۡ هَـٰذِهِۦ لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلشَّـٰكِرِینَ ۝٦٣

Say, `Who delivers you from the calamities of the land and the sea, when you call upon HIM in humility and in secret, saying, `If HE deliver us from this, we will surely be of those who are grateful.

qul man yunajjīkum min ẓulumāti l-bari wal-baḥri tadʿūnahu taḍarruʿan wakhuf'yatan la-in anjānā min hādhihi lanakūnanna mina l-shākirīn

قُلِ ٱللَّهُ یُنَجِّیكُم مِّنۡهَا وَمِن كُلِّ كَرۡبࣲ ثُمَّ أَنتُمۡ تُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٦٤

Say, `ALLAH delivers you from them and from every distress, yet you associate partners with HIM.

quli l-lahu yunajjīkum min'hā wamin kulli karbin thumma antum tush'rikūn

قُلۡ هُوَ ٱلۡقَادِرُ عَلَىٰۤ أَن یَبۡعَثَ عَلَیۡكُمۡ عَذَابࣰا مِّن فَوۡقِكُمۡ أَوۡ مِن تَحۡتِ أَرۡجُلِكُمۡ أَوۡ یَلۡبِسَكُمۡ شِیَعࣰا وَیُذِیقَ بَعۡضَكُم بَأۡسَ بَعۡضٍۗ ٱنظُرۡ كَیۡفَ نُصَرِّفُ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَفۡقَهُونَ ۝٦٥

Say, `HE has the power to send punishment upon you from above you or from beneath your feet, or to confound you by splitting you into sects and make you taste the violence of one another. See how WE expound the Signs in various ways that they may understand

qul huwa l-qādiru ʿalā an yabʿatha ʿalaykum ʿadhāban min fawqikum aw min taḥti arjulikum aw yalbisakum shiyaʿan wayudhīqa baʿḍakum basa baʿḍin unẓur kayfa nuṣarrifu l-āyāti laʿallahum yafqahūn

وَكَذَّبَ بِهِۦ قَوۡمُكَ وَهُوَ ٱلۡحَقُّۚ قُل لَّسۡتُ عَلَیۡكُم بِوَكِیلࣲ ۝٦٦

And thy people have rejected it though it is the truth. Say, `I am not a guardian over you.

wakadhaba bihi qawmuka wahuwa l-ḥaqu qul lastu ʿalaykum biwakīli

لِّكُلِّ نَبَإࣲ مُّسۡتَقَرࣱّۚ وَسَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٦٧

For every prophecy there is a fixed time; and soon will you come to know

likulli naba-in mus'taqarrun wasawfa taʿlamūn

وَإِذَا رَأَیۡتَ ٱلَّذِینَ یَخُوضُونَ فِیۤ ءَایَـٰتِنَا فَأَعۡرِضۡ عَنۡهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ یَخُوضُوا۟ فِی حَدِیثٍ غَیۡرِهِۦۚ وَإِمَّا یُنسِیَنَّكَ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُ فَلَا تَقۡعُدۡ بَعۡدَ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ مَعَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٦٨

And when thou seest those who engage in vain discourse concerning OUR Signs, then turn thou away from them until they engage in a discourse other than that. And if Satan should cause thee to forget, then sit not, after recollection, with the unjust people

wa-idhā ra-ayta alladhīna yakhūḍūna fī āyātinā fa-aʿriḍ ʿanhum ḥattā yakhūḍū fī ḥadīthin ghayrihi wa-immā yunsiyannaka l-shayṭānu falā taqʿud baʿda l-dhik'rā maʿa l-qawmi l-ẓālimīn

وَمَا عَلَى ٱلَّذِینَ یَتَّقُونَ مِنۡ حِسَابِهِم مِّن شَیۡءࣲ وَلَـٰكِن ذِكۡرَىٰ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَتَّقُونَ ۝٦٩

And those who are righteous are not at all accountable for them, but their duty is to admonish them that they may fear ALLAH

wamā ʿalā alladhīna yattaqūna min ḥisābihim min shayin walākin dhik'rā laʿallahum yattaqūn

وَذَرِ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ دِینَهُمۡ لَعِبࣰا وَلَهۡوࣰا وَغَرَّتۡهُمُ ٱلۡحَیَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡیَاۚ وَذَكِّرۡ بِهِۦۤ أَن تُبۡسَلَ نَفۡسُۢ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡ لَیۡسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِیࣱّ وَلَا شَفِیعࣱ وَإِن تَعۡدِلۡ كُلَّ عَدۡلࣲ لَّا یُؤۡخَذۡ مِنۡهَاۤۗ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ أُبۡسِلُوا۟ بِمَا كَسَبُوا۟ۖ لَهُمۡ شَرَابࣱ مِّنۡ حَمِیمࣲ وَعَذَابٌ أَلِیمُۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡفُرُونَ ۝٧٠

And leave alone those who take their religion to be a sport and a pastime, and whom worldly life has beguiled. And admonish people thereby lest a soul be consigned to perdition for what it has earned. It shall have no helper nor intercessor beside ALLAH; and even if it offer every ransom it shall not be accepted from it. These are they who have been delivered over to destruction for their own acts. They will have a drink of boiling water and a grievous punishment, because they disbelieved

wadhari alladhīna ittakhadhū dīnahum laʿiban walahwan wagharrathumu l-ḥayatu l-dun'yā wadhakkir bihi an tub'sala nafsun bimā kasabat laysa lahā min dūni l-lahi waliyyun walā shafīʿun wa-in taʿdil kulla ʿadlin lā yu'khadh min'hā ulāika alladhīna ub'silū bimā kasabū lahum sharābun min ḥamīmin waʿadhābun alīmun bimā kānū yakfurūn

9 Abraham's Argument for Divine Unity

قُلۡ أَنَدۡعُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا یَنفَعُنَا وَلَا یَضُرُّنَا وَنُرَدُّ عَلَىٰۤ أَعۡقَابِنَا بَعۡدَ إِذۡ هَدَىٰنَا ٱللَّهُ كَٱلَّذِی ٱسۡتَهۡوَتۡهُ ٱلشَّیَـٰطِینُ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ حَیۡرَانَ لَهُۥۤ أَصۡحَـٰبࣱ یَدۡعُونَهُۥۤ إِلَى ٱلۡهُدَى ٱئۡتِنَاۗ قُلۡ إِنَّ هُدَى ٱللَّهِ هُوَ ٱلۡهُدَىٰۖ وَأُمِرۡنَا لِنُسۡلِمَ لِرَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٧١

Say, `Shall we call beside ALLAH, upon that which can neither profit us nor harm us, and shall we be turn back on our heels after ALLAH guided us? - Like one whom the evil ones entice away, leaving him bewildered in the land, and who has companions who call him to guidance, saying, `Come to us.' Say: `Surely, the guidance of ALLAH is the only true guidance and we have been commanded to submit to the Lord of all the worlds

qul anadʿū min dūni l-lahi mā lā yanfaʿunā walā yaḍurrunā wanuraddu ʿalā aʿqābinā baʿda idh hadānā l-lahu ka-alladhī is'tahwathu l-shayāṭīnu fī l-arḍi ḥayrāna lahu aṣḥābun yadʿūnahu ilā l-hudā i'tinā qul inna hudā l-lahi huwa l-hudā wa-umir'nā linus'lima lirabbi l-ʿālamīn

وَأَنۡ أَقِیمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَٱتَّقُوهُۚ وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِیۤ إِلَیۡهِ تُحۡشَرُونَ ۝٧٢

And we have been given the command: Observe Prayers and fear HIM;' and HE it is Whom you shall all be gathered.

wa-an aqīmū l-ṣalata wa-ittaqūhu wahuwa alladhī ilayhi tuḥ'sharūn

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ وَیَوۡمَ یَقُولُ كُن فَیَكُونُۚ قَوۡلُهُ ٱلۡحَقُّۚ وَلَهُ ٱلۡمُلۡكُ یَوۡمَ یُنفَخُ فِی ٱلصُّورِۚ عَـٰلِمُ ٱلۡغَیۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡحَكِیمُ ٱلۡخَبِیرُ ۝٧٣

And HE it is Who created the heavens and the earth in accordance with the requirements of wisdom; and on the day when HE will say, `Be', it will be. HIS word is the truth, and HIS will be the Kingdom on the day when the trumpet will be blown. HE is the Knower of the unseen and the seen. And HE is the Wise, the All-Aware

wahuwa alladhī khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa bil-ḥaqi wayawma yaqūlu kun fayakūnu qawluhu l-ḥaqu walahu l-mul'ku yawma yunfakhu fī l-ṣūri ʿālimu l-ghaybi wal-shahādati wahuwa l-ḥakīmu l-khabīr

۞ وَإِذۡ قَالَ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمُ لِأَبِیهِ ءَازَرَ أَتَتَّخِذُ أَصۡنَامًا ءَالِهَةً إِنِّیۤ أَرَىٰكَ وَقَوۡمَكَ فِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝٧٤

And remember the time when Abraham said to his father, Azar, `Dost thou take idols for gods? Surely, I see thee and thy people in manifest error.

wa-idh qāla ib'rāhīmu li-abīhi āzara atattakhidhu aṣnāman ālihatan innī arāka waqawmaka fī ḍalālin mubīni

وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ نُرِیۤ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ مَلَكُوتَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلِیَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُوقِنِینَ ۝٧٥

And thus did we show Abraham the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth that he should have full knowledge and that he might be of those who possess certainty of faith

wakadhālika nurī ib'rāhīma malakūta l-samāwāti wal-arḍi waliyakūna mina l-mūqinīn

فَلَمَّا جَنَّ عَلَیۡهِ ٱلَّیۡلُ رَءَا كَوۡكَبࣰاۖ قَالَ هَـٰذَا رَبِّیۖ فَلَمَّاۤ أَفَلَ قَالَ لَاۤ أُحِبُّ ٱلۡءَافِلِینَ ۝٧٦

And when the night darkened upon him, he saw a star. He said, `Can this be my Lord?' But when it set, he said, I like not those that set.

falammā janna ʿalayhi al-laylu raā kawkaban qāla hādhā rabbī falammā afala qāla lā uḥibbu l-āfilīn

فَلَمَّا رَءَا ٱلۡقَمَرَ بَازِغࣰا قَالَ هَـٰذَا رَبِّیۖ فَلَمَّاۤ أَفَلَ قَالَ لَىِٕن لَّمۡ یَهۡدِنِی رَبِّی لَأَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلضَّاۤلِّینَ ۝٧٧

And when he saw the moon rise with spreading light, he said, `Can this be my lord?' But when it set, he said, `If my Lord guide me not, I shall surely be of the people who go astray.

falammā raā l-qamara bāzighan qāla hādhā rabbī falammā afala qāla la-in lam yahdinī rabbī la-akūnanna mina l-qawmi l-ḍālīn

فَلَمَّا رَءَا ٱلشَّمۡسَ بَازِغَةࣰ قَالَ هَـٰذَا رَبِّی هَـٰذَاۤ أَكۡبَرُۖ فَلَمَّاۤ أَفَلَتۡ قَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ إِنِّی بَرِیۤءࣱ مِّمَّا تُشۡرِكُونَ ۝٧٨

And when he saw the sun rise with spreading light, he said, `Can this be my Lord? This is the greatest.' But when it also set, he said, `O my people ! surely I am quit of that which you associate with God

falammā raā l-shamsa bāzighatan qāla hādhā rabbī hādhā akbaru falammā afalat qāla yāqawmi innī barīon mimmā tush'rikūn

إِنِّی وَجَّهۡتُ وَجۡهِیَ لِلَّذِی فَطَرَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ حَنِیفࣰاۖ وَمَاۤ أَنَا۠ مِنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ ۝٧٩

`I have turned my face toward HIM WHO created the heavens and the earth, being ever inclined to ALLAH, and I am not of those who associate gods with HIM.

innī wajjahtu wajhiya lilladhī faṭara l-samāwāti wal-arḍa ḥanīfan wamā anā mina l-mush'rikīn

وَحَاۤجَّهُۥ قَوۡمُهُۥۚ قَالَ أَتُحَـٰۤجُّوۤنِّی فِی ٱللَّهِ وَقَدۡ هَدَىٰنِۚ وَلَاۤ أَخَافُ مَا تُشۡرِكُونَ بِهِۦۤ إِلَّاۤ أَن یَشَاۤءَ رَبِّی شَیۡءࣰاۚ وَسِعَ رَبِّی كُلَّ شَیۡءٍ عِلۡمًاۚ أَفَلَا تَتَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٨٠

And his people argued with him. He said, `Do you argue with me concerning ALLAH when HE has guided me aright? And I fear not that which you associate with HIM' except that I fear what my Lord wills. My Lord comprehends all things in HIS knowledge. Will you not them be admonished

waḥājjahu qawmuhu qāla atuḥājjūnnī fī l-lahi waqad hadāni walā akhāfu mā tush'rikūna bihi illā an yashāa rabbī shayan wasiʿa rabbī kulla shayin ʿil'man afalā tatadhakkarūn

وَكَیۡفَ أَخَافُ مَاۤ أَشۡرَكۡتُمۡ وَلَا تَخَافُونَ أَنَّكُمۡ أَشۡرَكۡتُم بِٱللَّهِ مَا لَمۡ یُنَزِّلۡ بِهِۦ عَلَیۡكُمۡ سُلۡطَـٰنࣰاۚ فَأَیُّ ٱلۡفَرِیقَیۡنِ أَحَقُّ بِٱلۡأَمۡنِۖ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٨١

And why should I fear that which you associate with ALLAH, when you fear not to associate with ALLAH that for which HE has sent down to you no authority? Which, then, of the two parties has better title to security, If indeed you know

wakayfa akhāfu mā ashraktum walā takhāfūna annakum ashraktum bil-lahi mā lam yunazzil bihi ʿalaykum sul'ṭānan fa-ayyu l-farīqayni aḥaqqu bil-amni in kuntum taʿlamūn

ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَلَمۡ یَلۡبِسُوۤا۟ إِیمَـٰنَهُم بِظُلۡمٍ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمُ ٱلۡأَمۡنُ وَهُم مُّهۡتَدُونَ ۝٨٢

Those who belief and mix not up their belief with injustice - it is they who shall have peace, and who are rightly guided

alladhīna āmanū walam yalbisū īmānahum biẓul'min ulāika lahumu l-amnu wahum muh'tadūn

10 Prophets among Abraham's Line

وَتِلۡكَ حُجَّتُنَاۤ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰهَاۤ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ عَلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦۚ نَرۡفَعُ دَرَجَـٰتࣲ مَّن نَّشَاۤءُۗ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ حَكِیمٌ عَلِیمࣱ ۝٨٣

And that is OUR argument which WE gave to Abraham against his people. WE exalt in decrees of rank whomso WE please. Thy Lord is indeed Wise, All-Knowing

watil'ka ḥujjatunā ātaynāhā ib'rāhīma ʿalā qawmihi narfaʿu darajātin man nashāu inna rabbaka ḥakīmun ʿalīmu

وَوَهَبۡنَا لَهُۥۤ إِسۡحَـٰقَ وَیَعۡقُوبَۚ كُلًّا هَدَیۡنَاۚ وَنُوحًا هَدَیۡنَا مِن قَبۡلُۖ وَمِن ذُرِّیَّتِهِۦ دَاوُۥدَ وَسُلَیۡمَـٰنَ وَأَیُّوبَ وَیُوسُفَ وَمُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَۚ وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝٨٤

And WE gave him Isaac and Jacob; each did WE guide aright, and Noah did WE guide aright aforetime, and of his progeny, David and Solomon and Job and Joseph and Moses and Aaron. Thus do WE reward those who do good

wawahabnā lahu is'ḥāqa wayaʿqūba kullan hadaynā wanūḥan hadaynā min qablu wamin dhurriyyatihi dāwūda wasulaymāna wa-ayyūba wayūsufa wamūsā wahārūna wakadhālika najzī l-muḥ'sinīn

وَزَكَرِیَّا وَیَحۡیَىٰ وَعِیسَىٰ وَإِلۡیَاسَۖ كُلࣱّ مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِینَ ۝٨٥

And WE guided Zachariah and John and Jesus and Elias; each one of them was of the righteous

wazakariyyā wayaḥyā waʿīsā wa-il'yāsa kullun mina l-ṣāliḥīn

وَإِسۡمَـٰعِیلَ وَٱلۡیَسَعَ وَیُونُسَ وَلُوطࣰاۚ وَكُلࣰّا فَضَّلۡنَا عَلَى ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٨٦

And WE also guided Ishmael and Elisha and Jonah and Lot ! and each one of them did WE exalt above the people

wa-is'māʿīla wal-yasaʿa wayūnusa walūṭan wakullan faḍḍalnā ʿalā l-ʿālamīn

وَمِنۡ ءَابَاۤىِٕهِمۡ وَذُرِّیَّـٰتِهِمۡ وَإِخۡوَ ٰنِهِمۡۖ وَٱجۡتَبَیۡنَـٰهُمۡ وَهَدَیۡنَـٰهُمۡ إِلَىٰ صِرَ ٰطࣲ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣲ ۝٨٧

And WE exalted some of their fathers and their children and their brethren, and WE chose them and WE guided them in the straight path

wamin ābāihim wadhurriyyātihim wa-ikh'wānihim wa-ij'tabaynāhum wahadaynāhum ilā ṣirāṭin mus'taqīmi

ذَ ٰلِكَ هُدَى ٱللَّهِ یَهۡدِی بِهِۦ مَن یَشَاۤءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِهِۦۚ وَلَوۡ أَشۡرَكُوا۟ لَحَبِطَ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٨٨

That is the guidance of ALLAH. HE guides thereby those of HIS servants whom HE pleases. And if they had worshiped aught beside HIM, surely all they did would have been of no avail to them

dhālika hudā l-lahi yahdī bihi man yashāu min ʿibādihi walaw ashrakū laḥabiṭa ʿanhum mā kānū yaʿmalūn

أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُمُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلۡحُكۡمَ وَٱلنُّبُوَّةَۚ فَإِن یَكۡفُرۡ بِهَا هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ فَقَدۡ وَكَّلۡنَا بِهَا قَوۡمࣰا لَّیۡسُوا۟ بِهَا بِكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٨٩

It is to these whom WE gave the Book and dominion and Prophethood. But if they are ungrateful for these favours it matters not, for WE have now entrusted them to a people who are not ungrateful for them

ulāika alladhīna ātaynāhumu l-kitāba wal-ḥuk'ma wal-nubuwata fa-in yakfur bihā hāulāi faqad wakkalnā bihā qawman laysū bihā bikāfirīn

أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ هَدَى ٱللَّهُۖ فَبِهُدَىٰهُمُ ٱقۡتَدِهۡۗ قُل لَّاۤ أَسۡءَلُكُمۡ عَلَیۡهِ أَجۡرًاۖ إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكۡرَىٰ لِلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٩٠

These it is whom ALLAH guide aright, so follow thou their guidance. Say, `I ask not of you any reward for it. This is naught but an admonition for all mankind.

ulāika alladhīna hadā l-lahu fabihudāhumu iq'tadih qul lā asalukum ʿalayhi ajran in huwa illā dhik'rā lil'ʿālamīn

11 Truth of Revelation

وَمَا قَدَرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ حَقَّ قَدۡرِهِۦۤ إِذۡ قَالُوا۟ مَاۤ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ بَشَرࣲ مِّن شَیۡءࣲۗ قُلۡ مَنۡ أَنزَلَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ ٱلَّذِی جَاۤءَ بِهِۦ مُوسَىٰ نُورࣰا وَهُدࣰى لِّلنَّاسِۖ تَجۡعَلُونَهُۥ قَرَاطِیسَ تُبۡدُونَهَا وَتُخۡفُونَ كَثِیرࣰاۖ وَعُلِّمۡتُم مَّا لَمۡ تَعۡلَمُوۤا۟ أَنتُمۡ وَلَاۤ ءَابَاۤؤُكُمۡۖ قُلِ ٱللَّهُۖ ثُمَّ ذَرۡهُمۡ فِی خَوۡضِهِمۡ یَلۡعَبُونَ ۝٩١

And they do not make a just estimate of the attributes of ALLAH, when they say, `ALLAH has not revealed anything to any man. Say, `Who revealed the Book which Moses brought, a light and a guidance for the people - though you treat it as scrapes of paper, some of which you show while you hide much thereof and you have been taught that which neither you nor your fathers knew?' Say, `ALLAH.' Then leave them to amuse themselves with idle talk

wamā qadarū l-laha ḥaqqa qadrihi idh qālū mā anzala l-lahu ʿalā basharin min shayin qul man anzala l-kitāba alladhī jāa bihi mūsā nūran wahudan lilnnāsi tajʿalūnahu qarāṭīsa tub'dūnahā watukh'fūna kathīran waʿullim'tum mā lam taʿlamū antum walā ābāukum quli l-lahu thumma dharhum fī khawḍihim yalʿabūn

وَهَـٰذَا كِتَـٰبٌ أَنزَلۡنَـٰهُ مُبَارَكࣱ مُّصَدِّقُ ٱلَّذِی بَیۡنَ یَدَیۡهِ وَلِتُنذِرَ أُمَّ ٱلۡقُرَىٰ وَمَنۡ حَوۡلَهَاۚ وَٱلَّذِینَ یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِهِۦۖ وَهُمۡ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمۡ یُحَافِظُونَ ۝٩٢

And this is a Book which WE have revealed, full of blessings, to fulfill that which preceded it, and to enable thee to warn the Mother of towns and those around her. And those, who believe in the Hereafter, believe therein and they strictly observe their Prayers

wahādhā kitābun anzalnāhu mubārakun muṣaddiqu alladhī bayna yadayhi walitundhira umma l-qurā waman ḥawlahā wa-alladhīna yu'minūna bil-ākhirati yu'minūna bihi wahum ʿalā ṣalātihim yuḥāfiẓūn

وَمَنۡ أَظۡلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفۡتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا أَوۡ قَالَ أُوحِیَ إِلَیَّ وَلَمۡ یُوحَ إِلَیۡهِ شَیۡءࣱ وَمَن قَالَ سَأُنزِلُ مِثۡلَ مَاۤ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُۗ وَلَوۡ تَرَىٰۤ إِذِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ فِی غَمَرَ ٰتِ ٱلۡمَوۡتِ وَٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ بَاسِطُوۤا۟ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ أَخۡرِجُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَكُمُۖ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ تُجۡزَوۡنَ عَذَابَ ٱلۡهُونِ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ غَیۡرَ ٱلۡحَقِّ وَكُنتُمۡ عَنۡ ءَایَـٰتِهِۦ تَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ ۝٩٣

And who is more unjust than he who forges a lie against ALLAH, or says, `It has been revealed to me,' while nothing has been revealed to him; and who says, `I will sent down the like of that which ALLAH has sent down?' And if thou couldst only see, when the wrongdoers are in the agonies of death, and the angels stretch forth their hands, saying, `Yield up your souls. This day shall you be awarded the punishment of disgrace because of that which you spoke against ALLAH falsely and because you turned away from HIS Signs with disdain.

waman aẓlamu mimmani if'tarā ʿalā l-lahi kadhiban aw qāla ūḥiya ilayya walam yūḥa ilayhi shayon waman qāla sa-unzilu mith'la mā anzala l-lahu walaw tarā idhi l-ẓālimūna fī ghamarāti l-mawti wal-malāikatu bāsiṭū aydīhim akhrijū anfusakumu l-yawma tuj'zawna ʿadhāba l-hūni bimā kuntum taqūlūna ʿalā l-lahi ghayra l-ḥaqi wakuntum ʿan āyātihi tastakbirūn

وَلَقَدۡ جِئۡتُمُونَا فُرَ ٰدَىٰ كَمَا خَلَقۡنَـٰكُمۡ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةࣲ وَتَرَكۡتُم مَّا خَوَّلۡنَـٰكُمۡ وَرَاۤءَ ظُهُورِكُمۡۖ وَمَا نَرَىٰ مَعَكُمۡ شُفَعَاۤءَكُمُ ٱلَّذِینَ زَعَمۡتُمۡ أَنَّهُمۡ فِیكُمۡ شُرَكَـٰۤؤُا۟ۚ لَقَد تَّقَطَّعَ بَیۡنَكُمۡ وَضَلَّ عَنكُم مَّا كُنتُمۡ تَزۡعُمُونَ ۝٩٤

And now you come to US one by one even as WE create you at first, and you have left behind your backs that which WE bestowed upon you, and WE do not see with you your intercessors of whom you asserted that they were partners with ALLAH in your affairs. Now you have been cut off from one another and that which you asserted has failed you

walaqad ji'tumūnā furādā kamā khalaqnākum awwala marratin wataraktum mā khawwalnākum warāa ẓuhūrikum wamā narā maʿakum shufaʿāakumu alladhīna zaʿamtum annahum fīkum shurakāu laqad taqaṭṭaʿa baynakum waḍalla ʿankum mā kuntum tazʿumūn

12 Ultimate Triumph of Truth

۞ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ فَالِقُ ٱلۡحَبِّ وَٱلنَّوَىٰۖ یُخۡرِجُ ٱلۡحَیَّ مِنَ ٱلۡمَیِّتِ وَمُخۡرِجُ ٱلۡمَیِّتِ مِنَ ٱلۡحَیِّۚ ذَ ٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُؤۡفَكُونَ ۝٩٥

Verily, it is ALLAH Who causes the grain and the date-stones to sprout. HE brings forth the living from the dead, and HE is the Bringer forth of the dead from the living. That is ALLAH; wherefore, then, are you turned back

inna l-laha fāliqu l-ḥabi wal-nawā yukh'riju l-ḥaya mina l-mayiti wamukh'riju l-mayiti mina l-ḥayi dhālikumu l-lahu fa-annā tu'fakūn

فَالِقُ ٱلۡإِصۡبَاحِ وَجَعَلَ ٱلَّیۡلَ سَكَنࣰا وَٱلشَّمۡسَ وَٱلۡقَمَرَ حُسۡبَانࣰاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ تَقۡدِیرُ ٱلۡعَزِیزِ ٱلۡعَلِیمِ ۝٩٦

HE causes the break of day and HE made the night for rest and the sun and the moon for the reckoning of time. That is the measuring of the Mighty, the Wise

fāliqu l-iṣ'bāḥi wajaʿala al-layla sakanan wal-shamsa wal-qamara ḥus'bānan dhālika taqdīru l-ʿazīzi l-ʿalīm

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلنُّجُومَ لِتَهۡتَدُوا۟ بِهَا فِی ظُلُمَـٰتِ ٱلۡبَرِّ وَٱلۡبَحۡرِۗ قَدۡ فَصَّلۡنَا ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ لِقَوۡمࣲ یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٩٧

And HE it is Who has made the stars for you that you may follow the right direction with their help amid the darkness of the land and the sea. WE have explained the Signs in detail for a people who possess knowledge

wahuwa alladhī jaʿala lakumu l-nujūma litahtadū bihā fī ẓulumāti l-bari wal-baḥri qad faṣṣalnā l-āyāti liqawmin yaʿlamūn

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَنشَأَكُم مِّن نَّفۡسࣲ وَ ٰحِدَةࣲ فَمُسۡتَقَرࣱّ وَمُسۡتَوۡدَعࣱۗ قَدۡ فَصَّلۡنَا ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ لِقَوۡمࣲ یَفۡقَهُونَ ۝٩٨

And HE it is Who has produced you from a single soul and there is for you a temporary resort and a permanent abode. WE have explained the Signs in detail for a people who understand

wahuwa alladhī ansha-akum min nafsin wāḥidatin famus'taqarrun wamus'tawdaʿun qad faṣṣalnā l-āyāti liqawmin yafqahūn

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ مَاۤءࣰ فَأَخۡرَجۡنَا بِهِۦ نَبَاتَ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ فَأَخۡرَجۡنَا مِنۡهُ خَضِرࣰا نُّخۡرِجُ مِنۡهُ حَبࣰّا مُّتَرَاكِبࣰا وَمِنَ ٱلنَّخۡلِ مِن طَلۡعِهَا قِنۡوَانࣱ دَانِیَةࣱ وَجَنَّـٰتࣲ مِّنۡ أَعۡنَابࣲ وَٱلزَّیۡتُونَ وَٱلرُّمَّانَ مُشۡتَبِهࣰا وَغَیۡرَ مُتَشَـٰبِهٍۗ ٱنظُرُوۤا۟ إِلَىٰ ثَمَرِهِۦۤ إِذَاۤ أَثۡمَرَ وَیَنۡعِهِۦۤۚ إِنَّ فِی ذَ ٰلِكُمۡ لَءَایَـٰتࣲ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٩٩

And HE it is Who sends down water from the cloud; And WE bring forth therewith every kind of growth; then WE bring forth with that green foliage wherefrom WE produce clustered grain. And from the date-palm, out of its sheaths comes forth bunches hanging low. And WE produce therewith gardens of grapes, and the olive and the pomegranate - like and unlike. Look at the fruit thereof when it bears fruit, and the ripening thereof. Surely, in this are Signs for a people who believe

wahuwa alladhī anzala mina l-samāi māan fa-akhrajnā bihi nabāta kulli shayin fa-akhrajnā min'hu khaḍiran nukh'riju min'hu ḥabban mutarākiban wamina l-nakhli min ṭalʿihā qin'wānun dāniyatun wajannātin min aʿnābin wal-zaytūna wal-rumāna mush'tabihan waghayra mutashābihin unẓurū ilā thamarihi idhā athmara wayanʿihi inna fī dhālikum laāyātin liqawmin yu'minūn

وَجَعَلُوا۟ لِلَّهِ شُرَكَاۤءَ ٱلۡجِنَّ وَخَلَقَهُمۡۖ وَخَرَقُوا۟ لَهُۥ بَنِینَ وَبَنَـٰتِۭ بِغَیۡرِ عِلۡمࣲۚ سُبۡحَـٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا یَصِفُونَ ۝١٠٠

And they hold the jinn to be partners with ALLAH, although HE created them; and they falsely ascribe to HIM sons and daughters without any knowledge. Holy is HE and exalted far above what they attribute to HIM

wajaʿalū lillahi shurakāa l-jina wakhalaqahum wakharaqū lahu banīna wabanātin bighayri ʿil'min sub'ḥānahu wataʿālā ʿammā yaṣifūn

13 Gradual Progress

بَدِیعُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ أَنَّىٰ یَكُونُ لَهُۥ وَلَدࣱ وَلَمۡ تَكُن لَّهُۥ صَـٰحِبَةࣱۖ وَخَلَقَ كُلَّ شَیۡءࣲۖ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ شَیۡءٍ عَلِیمࣱ ۝١٠١

The Originator of the heavens and the earth. How can HE have a son when HE has no consort, and when HE has created everything and has knowledge of all things

badīʿu l-samāwāti wal-arḍi annā yakūnu lahu waladun walam takun lahu ṣāḥibatun wakhalaqa kulla shayin wahuwa bikulli shayin ʿalīmu

ذَ ٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمۡۖ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۖ خَـٰلِقُ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ فَٱعۡبُدُوهُۚ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ وَكِیلࣱ ۝١٠٢

Such is ALLAH, your Lord. There is no god but HE, the creator of all things; so worship HIM. and HE is the Guardian over everything

dhālikumu l-lahu rabbukum lā ilāha illā huwa khāliqu kulli shayin fa-uʿ'budūhu wahuwa ʿalā kulli shayin wakīlu

لَّا تُدۡرِكُهُ ٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرُ وَهُوَ یُدۡرِكُ ٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرَۖ وَهُوَ ٱللَّطِیفُ ٱلۡخَبِیرُ ۝١٠٣

Eyes cannot reach HIM but HE reaches the eyes. And HE is the incomprehensible, the All-Aware

lā tud'rikuhu l-abṣāru wahuwa yud'riku l-abṣāra wahuwa l-laṭīfu l-khabīr

قَدۡ جَاۤءَكُم بَصَاۤىِٕرُ مِن رَّبِّكُمۡۖ فَمَنۡ أَبۡصَرَ فَلِنَفۡسِهِۦۖ وَمَنۡ عَمِیَ فَعَلَیۡهَاۚ وَمَاۤ أَنَا۠ عَلَیۡكُم بِحَفِیظࣲ ۝١٠٤

Proofs have indeed come to you from your Lord; so whoever sees, it is for HIS own good; and whoever becomes blind, it is to his own loss. And I am not a guardian over you

qad jāakum baṣāiru min rabbikum faman abṣara falinafsihi waman ʿamiya faʿalayhā wamā anā ʿalaykum biḥafīẓi

وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ نُصَرِّفُ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ وَلِیَقُولُوا۟ دَرَسۡتَ وَلِنُبَیِّنَهُۥ لِقَوۡمࣲ یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝١٠٥

And thus do WE explain the Signs in various ways that the truth may become established and that they may say, `Thou hast read out what thou hast learnt' and that WE may explain it to a people who have no knowledge

wakadhālika nuṣarrifu l-āyāti waliyaqūlū darasta walinubayyinahu liqawmin yaʿlamūn

ٱتَّبِعۡ مَاۤ أُوحِیَ إِلَیۡكَ مِن رَّبِّكَۖ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۖ وَأَعۡرِضۡ عَنِ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ ۝١٠٦

Follow that which has been revealed to thee from thy Lord; there is no god but HE; and turn aside from the idolaters

ittabiʿ mā ūḥiya ilayka min rabbika lā ilāha illā huwa wa-aʿriḍ ʿani l-mush'rikīn

وَلَوۡ شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ مَاۤ أَشۡرَكُوا۟ۗ وَمَا جَعَلۡنَـٰكَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ حَفِیظࣰاۖ وَمَاۤ أَنتَ عَلَیۡهِم بِوَكِیلࣲ ۝١٠٧

And if ALLAH had enforced HIS will, they would not have set up gods with HIM. And WE have not made thee a keeper over them, nor art thou over them a guardian

walaw shāa l-lahu mā ashrakū wamā jaʿalnāka ʿalayhim ḥafīẓan wamā anta ʿalayhim biwakīli

وَلَا تَسُبُّوا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ یَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَیَسُبُّوا۟ ٱللَّهَ عَدۡوَۢا بِغَیۡرِ عِلۡمࣲۗ كَذَ ٰلِكَ زَیَّنَّا لِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ عَمَلَهُمۡ ثُمَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِم مَّرۡجِعُهُمۡ فَیُنَبِّئُهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٠٨

And abuse not those whom they call upon besides ALLAH, lest they, out of spite, abuse ALLAH in their ignorance. Thus unto every people have WE caused their doings to seem fair. Then unto their Lord is their return; And HE will inform them of what they used to do

walā tasubbū alladhīna yadʿūna min dūni l-lahi fayasubbū l-laha ʿadwan bighayri ʿil'min kadhālika zayyannā likulli ummatin ʿamalahum thumma ilā rabbihim marjiʿuhum fayunabbi-uhum bimā kānū yaʿmalūn

وَأَقۡسَمُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ جَهۡدَ أَیۡمَـٰنِهِمۡ لَىِٕن جَاۤءَتۡهُمۡ ءَایَةࣱ لَّیُؤۡمِنُنَّ بِهَاۚ قُلۡ إِنَّمَا ٱلۡءَایَـٰتُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِۖ وَمَا یُشۡعِرُكُمۡ أَنَّهَاۤ إِذَا جَاۤءَتۡ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١٠٩

And they swear by ALLAH their strongest oaths that if there came to them a Sign, they would surely believe therein. Say, `Surely, Signs are with ALLAH. And what should make you know that when the signs come, they will not believe

wa-aqsamū bil-lahi jahda aymānihim la-in jāathum āyatun layu'minunna bihā qul innamā l-āyātu ʿinda l-lahi wamā yush'ʿirukum annahā idhā jāat lā yu'minūn

وَنُقَلِّبُ أَفۡءِدَتَهُمۡ وَأَبۡصَـٰرَهُمۡ كَمَا لَمۡ یُؤۡمِنُوا۟ بِهِۦۤ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةࣲ وَنَذَرُهُمۡ فِی طُغۡیَـٰنِهِمۡ یَعۡمَهُونَ ۝١١٠

And WE shall confound their hearts and their eyes, for they believe not therein the first time, and WE shall leave them in their transgression to wander in distraction

wanuqallibu afidatahum wa-abṣārahum kamā lam yu'minū bihi awwala marratin wanadharuhum fī ṭugh'yānihim yaʿmahūn

14 Polytheists' Opposition

۞ وَلَوۡ أَنَّنَا نَزَّلۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةَ وَكَلَّمَهُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ وَحَشَرۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ كُلَّ شَیۡءࣲ قُبُلࣰا مَّا كَانُوا۟ لِیُؤۡمِنُوۤا۟ إِلَّاۤ أَن یَشَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ یَجۡهَلُونَ ۝١١١

And even if WE send down unto them angels, and the dead speak to them, and WE gather to them all things face to face, they would not believe, unless God enforced HIS Will. But most of them are ignorant

walaw annanā nazzalnā ilayhimu l-malāikata wakallamahumu l-mawtā waḥasharnā ʿalayhim kulla shayin qubulan mā kānū liyu'minū illā an yashāa l-lahu walākinna aktharahum yajhalūn

وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ جَعَلۡنَا لِكُلِّ نَبِیٍّ عَدُوࣰّا شَیَـٰطِینَ ٱلۡإِنسِ وَٱلۡجِنِّ یُوحِی بَعۡضُهُمۡ إِلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲ زُخۡرُفَ ٱلۡقَوۡلِ غُرُورࣰاۚ وَلَوۡ شَاۤءَ رَبُّكَ مَا فَعَلُوهُۖ فَذَرۡهُمۡ وَمَا یَفۡتَرُونَ ۝١١٢

And in the like manner have WE made for every Prophet an enemy, the evil ones from among men and jinn. They suggest one to another gilded speech in order to deceive. And if thy Lord had enforced HIS will, they would not have done it; so leave them alone with that which they fabricate

wakadhālika jaʿalnā likulli nabiyyin ʿaduwwan shayāṭīna l-insi wal-jini yūḥī baʿḍuhum ilā baʿḍin zukh'rufa l-qawli ghurūran walaw shāa rabbuka mā faʿalūhu fadharhum wamā yaftarūn

وَلِتَصۡغَىٰۤ إِلَیۡهِ أَفۡءِدَةُ ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ وَلِیَرۡضَوۡهُ وَلِیَقۡتَرِفُوا۟ مَا هُم مُّقۡتَرِفُونَ ۝١١٣

And ALLAH does this in order that the hearts of those who believe not in the Hereafter may incline thereto and that they may be pleased therewith and that they may continue to earn what they are earning

walitaṣghā ilayhi afidatu alladhīna lā yu'minūna bil-ākhirati waliyarḍawhu waliyaqtarifū mā hum muq'tarifūn

أَفَغَیۡرَ ٱللَّهِ أَبۡتَغِی حَكَمࣰا وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَنزَلَ إِلَیۡكُمُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ مُفَصَّلࣰاۚ وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُمُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ یَعۡلَمُونَ أَنَّهُۥ مُنَزَّلࣱ مِّن رَّبِّكَ بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ فَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡمُمۡتَرِینَ ۝١١٤

Shall I seek for a judge other than ALLAH, when HE it is WHO has sent down to you the Book fully explained? And those to whom WE gave the Book know that it has been sent down from thy Lord with truth; so be thou not of those who doubt

afaghayra l-lahi abtaghī ḥakaman wahuwa alladhī anzala ilaykumu l-kitāba mufaṣṣalan wa-alladhīna ātaynāhumu l-kitāba yaʿlamūna annahu munazzalun min rabbika bil-ḥaqi falā takūnanna mina l-mum'tarīn

وَتَمَّتۡ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ صِدۡقࣰا وَعَدۡلࣰاۚ لَّا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦۚ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِیعُ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ ۝١١٥

And the word of thy Lord has been fulfilled in truth and justice. None can change HIS words, and HE is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing

watammat kalimatu rabbika ṣid'qan waʿadlan lā mubaddila likalimātihi wahuwa l-samīʿu l-ʿalīm

وَإِن تُطِعۡ أَكۡثَرَ مَن فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ یُضِلُّوكَ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِۚ إِن یَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَإِنۡ هُمۡ إِلَّا یَخۡرُصُونَ ۝١١٦

And if thou obey most of those on earth, they will lead thee astray from ALLAH's way. They follow nothing but mere conjecture, and they do nothing but lie

wa-in tuṭiʿ akthara man fī l-arḍi yuḍillūka ʿan sabīli l-lahi in yattabiʿūna illā l-ẓana wa-in hum illā yakhruṣūn

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ مَن یَضِلُّ عَن سَبِیلِهِۦۖ وَهُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِٱلۡمُهۡتَدِینَ ۝١١٧

Surely thy Lord knows best those who go astray from HIS way; and HE knows best those who are rightly guided

inna rabbaka huwa aʿlamu man yaḍillu ʿan sabīlihi wahuwa aʿlamu bil-muh'tadīn

فَكُلُوا۟ مِمَّا ذُكِرَ ٱسۡمُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَیۡهِ إِن كُنتُم بِءَایَـٰتِهِۦ مُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١١٨

Eat, then, of that over which the name of ALLAH has been pronounced, if you are believers in HIS Signs

fakulū mimmā dhukira us'mu l-lahi ʿalayhi in kuntum biāyātihi mu'minīn

وَمَا لَكُمۡ أَلَّا تَأۡكُلُوا۟ مِمَّا ذُكِرَ ٱسۡمُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَیۡهِ وَقَدۡ فَصَّلَ لَكُم مَّا حَرَّمَ عَلَیۡكُمۡ إِلَّا مَا ٱضۡطُرِرۡتُمۡ إِلَیۡهِۗ وَإِنَّ كَثِیرࣰا لَّیُضِلُّونَ بِأَهۡوَاۤىِٕهِم بِغَیۡرِ عِلۡمٍۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِٱلۡمُعۡتَدِینَ ۝١١٩

And what reason have you that you should not eat of that over which the name of ALLAH has been pronounced when HE has already explained to you that which HE has forbidden unto you, -save that which you are forced to. And surely many mislead others by their evil desires through lack of knowledge. Assuredly, thy Lord knows best the transgressors

wamā lakum allā takulū mimmā dhukira us'mu l-lahi ʿalayhi waqad faṣṣala lakum mā ḥarrama ʿalaykum illā mā uḍ'ṭurir'tum ilayhi wa-inna kathīran layuḍillūna bi-ahwāihim bighayri ʿil'min inna rabbaka huwa aʿlamu bil-muʿ'tadīn

وَذَرُوا۟ ظَـٰهِرَ ٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَبَاطِنَهُۥۤۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ یَكۡسِبُونَ ٱلۡإِثۡمَ سَیُجۡزَوۡنَ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَقۡتَرِفُونَ ۝١٢٠

And eschew open sins as well as secret ones. Surely those who earn sin will be rewarded for that which they have earned

wadharū ẓāhira l-ith'mi wabāṭinahu inna alladhīna yaksibūna l-ith'ma sayuj'zawna bimā kānū yaqtarifūn

وَلَا تَأۡكُلُوا۟ مِمَّا لَمۡ یُذۡكَرِ ٱسۡمُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَیۡهِ وَإِنَّهُۥ لَفِسۡقࣱۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلشَّیَـٰطِینَ لَیُوحُونَ إِلَىٰۤ أَوۡلِیَاۤىِٕهِمۡ لِیُجَـٰدِلُوكُمۡۖ وَإِنۡ أَطَعۡتُمُوهُمۡ إِنَّكُمۡ لَمُشۡرِكُونَ ۝١٢١

And eat not of that on which the name of ALLAH has not been pronounced, for surely that is abomination. And certainly the evil ones inspire their friends with such thoughts that they may dispute with you. And if you obey them, you will indeed be of those who set up gods with ALLAH

walā takulū mimmā lam yudh'kari us'mu l-lahi ʿalayhi wa-innahu lafis'qun wa-inna l-shayāṭīna layūḥūna ilā awliyāihim liyujādilūkum wa-in aṭaʿtumūhum innakum lamush'rikūn

15 The Chief Opponents

أَوَ مَن كَانَ مَیۡتࣰا فَأَحۡیَیۡنَـٰهُ وَجَعَلۡنَا لَهُۥ نُورࣰا یَمۡشِی بِهِۦ فِی ٱلنَّاسِ كَمَن مَّثَلُهُۥ فِی ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ لَیۡسَ بِخَارِجࣲ مِّنۡهَاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ زُیِّنَ لِلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ مَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٢٢

Can he, who was dead, then WE gave him life and made for him a light whereby he walks among men, be like him whose condition is that he is in utter darkness whence he cannot come forth? Thus have the doings of the disbelievers been made to seem fair to them

awaman kāna maytan fa-aḥyaynāhu wajaʿalnā lahu nūran yamshī bihi fī l-nāsi kaman mathaluhu fī l-ẓulumāti laysa bikhārijin min'hā kadhālika zuyyina lil'kāfirīna mā kānū yaʿmalūn

وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ جَعَلۡنَا فِی كُلِّ قَرۡیَةٍ أَكَـٰبِرَ مُجۡرِمِیهَا لِیَمۡكُرُوا۟ فِیهَاۖ وَمَا یَمۡكُرُونَ إِلَّا بِأَنفُسِهِمۡ وَمَا یَشۡعُرُونَ ۝١٢٣

And thus have WE made in every town the leaders of its wicked ones that their doings seem fair to them with the result that they plot therein against the Messengers of ALLAH and they plot not except against their own souls; but they perceive not

wakadhālika jaʿalnā fī kulli qaryatin akābira muj'rimīhā liyamkurū fīhā wamā yamkurūna illā bi-anfusihim wamā yashʿurūn

وَإِذَا جَاۤءَتۡهُمۡ ءَایَةࣱ قَالُوا۟ لَن نُّؤۡمِنَ حَتَّىٰ نُؤۡتَىٰ مِثۡلَ مَاۤ أُوتِیَ رُسُلُ ٱللَّهِۘ ٱللَّهُ أَعۡلَمُ حَیۡثُ یَجۡعَلُ رِسَالَتَهُۥۗ سَیُصِیبُ ٱلَّذِینَ أَجۡرَمُوا۟ صَغَارٌ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَعَذَابࣱ شَدِیدُۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَمۡكُرُونَ ۝١٢٤

And when there comes to them a Sign, they say, `We will not believe until we are given the like of that which ALLAH's Messengers have been given.' ALLAH knows best where to place HIS Message. Surely, humiliation before ALLAH and a severe punishment shall afflict the offenders because of their plotting

wa-idhā jāathum āyatun qālū lan nu'mina ḥattā nu'tā mith'la mā ūtiya rusulu l-lahi l-lahu aʿlamu ḥaythu yajʿalu risālatahu sayuṣību alladhīna ajramū ṣaghārun ʿinda l-lahi waʿadhābun shadīdun bimā kānū yamkurūn

فَمَن یُرِدِ ٱللَّهُ أَن یَهۡدِیَهُۥ یَشۡرَحۡ صَدۡرَهُۥ لِلۡإِسۡلَـٰمِۖ وَمَن یُرِدۡ أَن یُضِلَّهُۥ یَجۡعَلۡ صَدۡرَهُۥ ضَیِّقًا حَرَجࣰا كَأَنَّمَا یَصَّعَّدُ فِی ٱلسَّمَاۤءِۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ یَجۡعَلُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلرِّجۡسَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١٢٥

So, whomsoever ALLAH intends to guide, HE expands his bosom for the acceptance of Islam; and whomsoever HE intends that he should go astray, HE makes his bosom narrow and close, as though he was mounting up into the skies. Thus does ALLAH inflict punishment on those who do not believe

faman yuridi l-lahu an yahdiyahu yashraḥ ṣadrahu lil'is'lāmi waman yurid an yuḍillahu yajʿal ṣadrahu ḍayyiqan ḥarajan ka-annamā yaṣṣaʿʿadu fī l-samāi kadhālika yajʿalu l-lahu l-rij'sa ʿalā alladhīna lā yu'minūn

وَهَـٰذَا صِرَ ٰطُ رَبِّكَ مُسۡتَقِیمࣰاۗ قَدۡ فَصَّلۡنَا ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ لِقَوۡمࣲ یَذَّكَّرُونَ ۝١٢٦

And this is the path of thy Lord leading straight to HIM. WE have, indeed, explained the Signs in detail for a people who would be admonished

wahādhā ṣirāṭu rabbika mus'taqīman qad faṣṣalnā l-āyāti liqawmin yadhakkarūn

۞ لَهُمۡ دَارُ ٱلسَّلَـٰمِ عِندَ رَبِّهِمۡۖ وَهُوَ وَلِیُّهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٢٧

For them is the abode of peace with their Lord, and HE is their Friend because of their works

lahum dāru l-salāmi ʿinda rabbihim wahuwa waliyyuhum bimā kānū yaʿmalūn

وَیَوۡمَ یَحۡشُرُهُمۡ جَمِیعࣰا یَـٰمَعۡشَرَ ٱلۡجِنِّ قَدِ ٱسۡتَكۡثَرۡتُم مِّنَ ٱلۡإِنسِۖ وَقَالَ أَوۡلِیَاۤؤُهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡإِنسِ رَبَّنَا ٱسۡتَمۡتَعَ بَعۡضُنَا بِبَعۡضࣲ وَبَلَغۡنَاۤ أَجَلَنَا ٱلَّذِیۤ أَجَّلۡتَ لَنَاۚ قَالَ ٱلنَّارُ مَثۡوَىٰكُمۡ خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَاۤ إِلَّا مَا شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُۗ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ حَكِیمٌ عَلِیمࣱ ۝١٢٨

And on the day when HE will gather them all together, HE will say, `O company of jinn ! you won over to yourselves a great many from among men.' And their friends from among men will say, `Our Lord ! we profited from one another, but now we have reached our term which Thou didst appoint for us.' HE will say, `The Fire is your abode, wherein you shall abide, save what ALLAH may will.' Surely, Thy Lord is Wise, All-Knowing

wayawma yaḥshuruhum jamīʿan yāmaʿshara l-jini qadi is'takthartum mina l-insi waqāla awliyāuhum mina l-insi rabbanā is'tamtaʿa baʿḍunā bibaʿḍin wabalaghnā ajalanā alladhī ajjalta lanā qāla l-nāru mathwākum khālidīna fīhā illā mā shāa l-lahu inna rabbaka ḥakīmun ʿalīmu

وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ نُوَلِّی بَعۡضَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ بَعۡضَۢا بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡسِبُونَ ۝١٢٩

And thus do WE make some of the wrongdoers friends of each other because of what they earn

wakadhālika nuwallī baʿḍa l-ẓālimīna baʿḍan bimā kānū yaksibūn

16 Evils of Idolatry

یَـٰمَعۡشَرَ ٱلۡجِنِّ وَٱلۡإِنسِ أَلَمۡ یَأۡتِكُمۡ رُسُلࣱ مِّنكُمۡ یَقُصُّونَ عَلَیۡكُمۡ ءَایَـٰتِی وَیُنذِرُونَكُمۡ لِقَاۤءَ یَوۡمِكُمۡ هَـٰذَاۚ قَالُوا۟ شَهِدۡنَا عَلَىٰۤ أَنفُسِنَاۖ وَغَرَّتۡهُمُ ٱلۡحَیَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡیَا وَشَهِدُوا۟ عَلَىٰۤ أَنفُسِهِمۡ أَنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ كَـٰفِرِینَ ۝١٣٠

'O company of jinn and men ! Did not Messengers come to you from among yourselves who related to you MY Signs and who warned you of the meeting of this your day?' They will say, `We bear witness against ourselves.' And the worldly life deceived them. And they will bear witness against themselves that they were disbelievers

yāmaʿshara l-jini wal-insi alam yatikum rusulun minkum yaquṣṣūna ʿalaykum āyātī wayundhirūnakum liqāa yawmikum hādhā qālū shahid'nā ʿalā anfusinā wagharrathumu l-ḥayatu l-dun'yā washahidū ʿalā anfusihim annahum kānū kāfirīn

ذَ ٰلِكَ أَن لَّمۡ یَكُن رَّبُّكَ مُهۡلِكَ ٱلۡقُرَىٰ بِظُلۡمࣲ وَأَهۡلُهَا غَـٰفِلُونَ ۝١٣١

The Messengers are sent because thy Lord would not destroy the towns unjustly while their people were unwarned

dhālika an lam yakun rabbuka muh'lika l-qurā biẓul'min wa-ahluhā ghāfilūn

وَلِكُلࣲّ دَرَجَـٰتࣱ مِّمَّا عَمِلُوا۟ۚ وَمَا رَبُّكَ بِغَـٰفِلٍ عَمَّا یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٣٢

And for all are degrees of rank according to what they do, and thy Lord is not unmindful of what they do

walikullin darajātun mimmā ʿamilū wamā rabbuka bighāfilin ʿammā yaʿmalūn

وَرَبُّكَ ٱلۡغَنِیُّ ذُو ٱلرَّحۡمَةِۚ إِن یَشَأۡ یُذۡهِبۡكُمۡ وَیَسۡتَخۡلِفۡ مِنۢ بَعۡدِكُم مَّا یَشَاۤءُ كَمَاۤ أَنشَأَكُم مِّن ذُرِّیَّةِ قَوۡمٍ ءَاخَرِینَ ۝١٣٣

And thy Lord is Self Sufficient, Lord of mercy. If HE please, HE can do away with you and cause to succeed you whom HE pleases, even as HE raised you from the posterity of other people

warabbuka l-ghaniyu dhū l-raḥmati in yasha yudh'hib'kum wayastakhlif min baʿdikum mā yashāu kamā ansha-akum min dhurriyyati qawmin ākharīn

إِنَّ مَا تُوعَدُونَ لَءَاتࣲۖ وَمَاۤ أَنتُم بِمُعۡجِزِینَ ۝١٣٤

Surely that which you are promised shall come to pass and you cannot frustrate it

inna mā tūʿadūna laātin wamā antum bimuʿ'jizīn

قُلۡ یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡمَلُوا۟ عَلَىٰ مَكَانَتِكُمۡ إِنِّی عَامِلࣱۖ فَسَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ مَن تَكُونُ لَهُۥ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلدَّارِۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا یُفۡلِحُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ ۝١٣٥

Say, `O my people, act according to your power. I too am acting. Soon will you know whose will be the ultimate reward of the abode.' Surely, the wrongdoers shall not prosper

qul yāqawmi iʿ'malū ʿalā makānatikum innī ʿāmilun fasawfa taʿlamūna man takūnu lahu ʿāqibatu l-dāri innahu lā yuf'liḥu l-ẓālimūn

وَجَعَلُوا۟ لِلَّهِ مِمَّا ذَرَأَ مِنَ ٱلۡحَرۡثِ وَٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمِ نَصِیبࣰا فَقَالُوا۟ هَـٰذَا لِلَّهِ بِزَعۡمِهِمۡ وَهَـٰذَا لِشُرَكَاۤىِٕنَاۖ فَمَا كَانَ لِشُرَكَاۤىِٕهِمۡ فَلَا یَصِلُ إِلَى ٱللَّهِۖ وَمَا كَانَ لِلَّهِ فَهُوَ یَصِلُ إِلَىٰ شُرَكَاۤىِٕهِمۡۗ سَاۤءَ مَا یَحۡكُمُونَ ۝١٣٦

And they have assigned ALLAH a portion of the crops and cattle which HE has produced, and they say, `This is for ALLAH,' -so they assert - `and this is for our associate-gods.' But that which is for their associate-gods reaches not ALLAH while that which is for ALLAH reaches their associate-gods. Evil is what they judge

wajaʿalū lillahi mimmā dhara-a mina l-ḥarthi wal-anʿāmi naṣīban faqālū hādhā lillahi bizaʿmihim wahādhā lishurakāinā famā kāna lishurakāihim falā yaṣilu ilā l-lahi wamā kāna lillahi fahuwa yaṣilu ilā shurakāihim sāa mā yaḥkumūn

وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ زَیَّنَ لِكَثِیرࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ قَتۡلَ أَوۡلَـٰدِهِمۡ شُرَكَاۤؤُهُمۡ لِیُرۡدُوهُمۡ وَلِیَلۡبِسُوا۟ عَلَیۡهِمۡ دِینَهُمۡۖ وَلَوۡ شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ مَا فَعَلُوهُۖ فَذَرۡهُمۡ وَمَا یَفۡتَرُونَ ۝١٣٧

And in the like manner have their associate-gods made the slaying of their children seem fair to many of the idolaters that they may ruin them and cause confusion in their religion. And if ALLAH had enforced HIS will, they would not have done this; so leave them alone with that which they invent

wakadhālika zayyana likathīrin mina l-mush'rikīna qatla awlādihim shurakāuhum liyur'dūhum waliyalbisū ʿalayhim dīnahum walaw shāa l-lahu mā faʿalūhu fadharhum wamā yaftarūn

وَقَالُوا۟ هَـٰذِهِۦۤ أَنۡعَـٰمࣱ وَحَرۡثٌ حِجۡرࣱ لَّا یَطۡعَمُهَاۤ إِلَّا مَن نَّشَاۤءُ بِزَعۡمِهِمۡ وَأَنۡعَـٰمٌ حُرِّمَتۡ ظُهُورُهَا وَأَنۡعَـٰمࣱ لَّا یَذۡكُرُونَ ٱسۡمَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَیۡهَا ٱفۡتِرَاۤءً عَلَیۡهِۚ سَیَجۡزِیهِم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَفۡتَرُونَ ۝١٣٨

And they say, `Such and such cattle and crops are forbidden. None shall eat thereof save whom we please' - so they assert - and there are cattle whose backs are forbidden, and there are cattle over which they pronounce not the name of ALLAH, forging a lie against HIM. Soon will HE requite them for that which they have fabricated

waqālū hādhihi anʿāmun waḥarthun ḥij'run lā yaṭʿamuhā illā man nashāu bizaʿmihim wa-anʿāmun ḥurrimat ẓuhūruhā wa-anʿāmun lā yadhkurūna is'ma l-lahi ʿalayhā if'tirāan ʿalayhi sayajzīhim bimā kānū yaftarūn

وَقَالُوا۟ مَا فِی بُطُونِ هَـٰذِهِ ٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمِ خَالِصَةࣱ لِّذُكُورِنَا وَمُحَرَّمٌ عَلَىٰۤ أَزۡوَ ٰجِنَاۖ وَإِن یَكُن مَّیۡتَةࣰ فَهُمۡ فِیهِ شُرَكَاۤءُۚ سَیَجۡزِیهِمۡ وَصۡفَهُمۡۚ إِنَّهُۥ حَكِیمٌ عَلِیمࣱ ۝١٣٩

And they say, `That which is in the wombs of such and such cattle is reserved for our males and is forbidden to our wives;' but if it be born dead, then they all partake thereof. HE will reward them for their assertion. Surely, HE is Wise, All-Knowing

waqālū mā fī buṭūni hādhihi l-anʿāmi khāliṣatun lidhukūrinā wamuḥarramun ʿalā azwājinā wa-in yakun maytatan fahum fīhi shurakāu sayajzīhim waṣfahum innahu ḥakīmun ʿalīmu

قَدۡ خَسِرَ ٱلَّذِینَ قَتَلُوۤا۟ أَوۡلَـٰدَهُمۡ سَفَهَۢا بِغَیۡرِ عِلۡمࣲ وَحَرَّمُوا۟ مَا رَزَقَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱفۡتِرَاۤءً عَلَى ٱللَّهِۚ قَدۡ ضَلُّوا۟ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُهۡتَدِینَ ۝١٤٠

Losers indeed are they who slay their children foolishly for lack of knowledge, and make unlawful what ALLAH has provided for them, forging a lie against ALLAH. They have indeed gone astray and are not rightly guided

qad khasira alladhīna qatalū awlādahum safahan bighayri ʿil'min waḥarramū mā razaqahumu l-lahu if'tirāan ʿalā l-lahi qad ḍallū wamā kānū muh'tadīn

17 Idolaters' Self-imposed Prohibitions

۞ وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِیۤ أَنشَأَ جَنَّـٰتࣲ مَّعۡرُوشَـٰتࣲ وَغَیۡرَ مَعۡرُوشَـٰتࣲ وَٱلنَّخۡلَ وَٱلزَّرۡعَ مُخۡتَلِفًا أُكُلُهُۥ وَٱلزَّیۡتُونَ وَٱلرُّمَّانَ مُتَشَـٰبِهࣰا وَغَیۡرَ مُتَشَـٰبِهࣲۚ كُلُوا۟ مِن ثَمَرِهِۦۤ إِذَاۤ أَثۡمَرَ وَءَاتُوا۟ حَقَّهُۥ یَوۡمَ حَصَادِهِۦۖ وَلَا تُسۡرِفُوۤا۟ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا یُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِینَ ۝١٤١

And HE it is Who produces gardens, trellised and untrellised, and the date-palm and the corn-fields whose fruits vary in taste, and the olive and the pomegranate, similar and dissimilar. Eat of the fruit thereof when they bear fruit, and pay HIS due on the day of the harvest and exceed not the bounds. Surely, ALLAH loves not those who exceed the bounds

wahuwa alladhī ansha-a jannātin maʿrūshātin waghayra maʿrūshātin wal-nakhla wal-zarʿa mukh'talifan ukuluhu wal-zaytūna wal-rumāna mutashābihan waghayra mutashābihin kulū min thamarihi idhā athmara waātū ḥaqqahu yawma ḥaṣādihi walā tus'rifū innahu lā yuḥibbu l-mus'rifīn

وَمِنَ ٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمِ حَمُولَةࣰ وَفَرۡشࣰاۚ كُلُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا۟ خُطُوَ ٰتِ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنِۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَكُمۡ عَدُوࣱّ مُّبِینࣱ ۝١٤٢

And of the cattle HE has created some for burden and some for slaughter. Eat of that which ALLAH has provided for you, and follow not in the footsteps of Satan. Surely he is to you an open foe

wamina l-anʿāmi ḥamūlatan wafarshan kulū mimmā razaqakumu l-lahu walā tattabiʿū khuṭuwāti l-shayṭāni innahu lakum ʿaduwwun mubīnu

ثَمَـٰنِیَةَ أَزۡوَ ٰجࣲۖ مِّنَ ٱلضَّأۡنِ ٱثۡنَیۡنِ وَمِنَ ٱلۡمَعۡزِ ٱثۡنَیۡنِۗ قُلۡ ءَاۤلذَّكَرَیۡنِ حَرَّمَ أَمِ ٱلۡأُنثَیَیۡنِ أَمَّا ٱشۡتَمَلَتۡ عَلَیۡهِ أَرۡحَامُ ٱلۡأُنثَیَیۡنِۖ نَبِّءُونِی بِعِلۡمٍ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝١٤٣

And of the cattle HE has created eight mates - of the sheep two, and of the goats two. Say, `Is it the two males HE has forbidden or the two females or that which the wombs of the two females contain? Inform me with knowledge if you are truthful.

thamāniyata azwājin mina l-ḍani ith'nayni wamina l-maʿzi ith'nayni qul āldhakarayni ḥarrama ami l-unthayayni ammā ish'tamalat ʿalayhi arḥāmu l-unthayayni nabbiūnī biʿil'min in kuntum ṣādiqīn

وَمِنَ ٱلۡإِبِلِ ٱثۡنَیۡنِ وَمِنَ ٱلۡبَقَرِ ٱثۡنَیۡنِۗ قُلۡ ءَاۤلذَّكَرَیۡنِ حَرَّمَ أَمِ ٱلۡأُنثَیَیۡنِ أَمَّا ٱشۡتَمَلَتۡ عَلَیۡهِ أَرۡحَامُ ٱلۡأُنثَیَیۡنِۖ أَمۡ كُنتُمۡ شُهَدَاۤءَ إِذۡ وَصَّىٰكُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِهَـٰذَاۚ فَمَنۡ أَظۡلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفۡتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبࣰا لِّیُضِلَّ ٱلنَّاسَ بِغَیۡرِ عِلۡمٍۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یَهۡدِی ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝١٤٤

And of the camels two, and of the oxen two. Say, `Is it the two males that HE has forbidden or the two females or that which the wombs of the two females contain? Were you present when ALLAH enjoined this on you?' Who is more unjust than he who forges a lie against ALLAH that HE may lead men astray without knowledge? Surely, ALLAH guides not the unjust people

wamina l-ibili ith'nayni wamina l-baqari ith'nayni qul āldhakarayni ḥarrama ami l-unthayayni ammā ish'tamalat ʿalayhi arḥāmu l-unthayayni am kuntum shuhadāa idh waṣṣākumu l-lahu bihādhā faman aẓlamu mimmani if'tarā ʿalā l-lahi kadhiban liyuḍilla l-nāsa bighayri ʿil'min inna l-laha lā yahdī l-qawma l-ẓālimīn

18 Prohibited Foods

قُل لَّاۤ أَجِدُ فِی مَاۤ أُوحِیَ إِلَیَّ مُحَرَّمًا عَلَىٰ طَاعِمࣲ یَطۡعَمُهُۥۤ إِلَّاۤ أَن یَكُونَ مَیۡتَةً أَوۡ دَمࣰا مَّسۡفُوحًا أَوۡ لَحۡمَ خِنزِیرࣲ فَإِنَّهُۥ رِجۡسٌ أَوۡ فِسۡقًا أُهِلَّ لِغَیۡرِ ٱللَّهِ بِهِۦۚ فَمَنِ ٱضۡطُرَّ غَیۡرَ بَاغࣲ وَلَا عَادࣲ فَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ غَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝١٤٥

Say, `I find not in what has been revealed to me aught forbidden to an eater who desires to eat it, except it be that which dies of itself or blood poured forth, or the flesh of swine - for all that is unclean - or what is profane, on which is invoked the name of other than ALLAH. But whoso is driven by necessity, being neither disobedient nor exceeding the limit, then, surely, they Lord is Most Forgiving, Merciful

qul lā ajidu fī mā ūḥiya ilayya muḥarraman ʿalā ṭāʿimin yaṭʿamuhu illā an yakūna maytatan aw daman masfūḥan aw laḥma khinzīrin fa-innahu rij'sun aw fis'qan uhilla lighayri l-lahi bihi famani uḍ'ṭurra ghayra bāghin walā ʿādin fa-inna rabbaka ghafūrun raḥīmu

وَعَلَى ٱلَّذِینَ هَادُوا۟ حَرَّمۡنَا كُلَّ ذِی ظُفُرࣲۖ وَمِنَ ٱلۡبَقَرِ وَٱلۡغَنَمِ حَرَّمۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ شُحُومَهُمَاۤ إِلَّا مَا حَمَلَتۡ ظُهُورُهُمَاۤ أَوِ ٱلۡحَوَایَاۤ أَوۡ مَا ٱخۡتَلَطَ بِعَظۡمࣲۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ جَزَیۡنَـٰهُم بِبَغۡیِهِمۡۖ وَإِنَّا لَصَـٰدِقُونَ ۝١٤٦

And to those who are Jews WE forbade all animals having claws; and of the oxen and the sheep and goats did WE forbid them their fats, save that which their backs bear or the entrails or that which is mixed with the bones. With that did WE recompense them for their rebellion. And most surely WE are truthful

waʿalā alladhīna hādū ḥarramnā kulla dhī ẓufurin wamina l-baqari wal-ghanami ḥarramnā ʿalayhim shuḥūmahumā illā mā ḥamalat ẓuhūruhumā awi l-ḥawāyā aw mā ikh'talaṭa biʿaẓmin dhālika jazaynāhum bibaghyihim wa-innā laṣādiqūn

فَإِن كَذَّبُوكَ فَقُل رَّبُّكُمۡ ذُو رَحۡمَةࣲ وَ ٰسِعَةࣲ وَلَا یُرَدُّ بَأۡسُهُۥ عَنِ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ ۝١٤٧

But if they accuse thee of falsehood, say, `Your Lord is the Lord of all-embracing mercy, and HIS wrath shall not be turned back from the guilty people.

fa-in kadhabūka faqul rabbukum dhū raḥmatin wāsiʿatin walā yuraddu basuhu ʿani l-qawmi l-muj'rimīn

سَیَقُولُ ٱلَّذِینَ أَشۡرَكُوا۟ لَوۡ شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ مَاۤ أَشۡرَكۡنَا وَلَاۤ ءَابَاۤؤُنَا وَلَا حَرَّمۡنَا مِن شَیۡءࣲۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ كَذَّبَ ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ حَتَّىٰ ذَاقُوا۟ بَأۡسَنَاۗ قُلۡ هَلۡ عِندَكُم مِّنۡ عِلۡمࣲ فَتُخۡرِجُوهُ لَنَاۤۖ إِن تَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَإِنۡ أَنتُمۡ إِلَّا تَخۡرُصُونَ ۝١٤٨

Those who associate gods with ALLAH will say, `If ALLAH had pleased, we would not have associated gods with HIM, nor would our fathers, nor would we have made anything unlawful.' In the like manner did those who were before them accuse God's Messengers of falsehood, until they tasted OUR wrath. Say, `Have you any knowledge? Then produce it for us. You only follow mere conjecture. And you only tell lies.

sayaqūlu alladhīna ashrakū law shāa l-lahu mā ashraknā walā ābāunā walā ḥarramnā min shayin kadhālika kadhaba alladhīna min qablihim ḥattā dhāqū basanā qul hal ʿindakum min ʿil'min fatukh'rijūhu lanā in tattabiʿūna illā l-ẓana wa-in antum illā takhruṣūn

قُلۡ فَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡحُجَّةُ ٱلۡبَـٰلِغَةُۖ فَلَوۡ شَاۤءَ لَهَدَىٰكُمۡ أَجۡمَعِینَ ۝١٤٩

Say, `ALLAH's is the argument that reaches home. If HE had enforced HIS Will, HE would have surely guided you all.

qul falillahi l-ḥujatu l-bālighatu falaw shāa lahadākum ajmaʿīn

قُلۡ هَلُمَّ شُهَدَاۤءَكُمُ ٱلَّذِینَ یَشۡهَدُونَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ حَرَّمَ هَـٰذَاۖ فَإِن شَهِدُوا۟ فَلَا تَشۡهَدۡ مَعَهُمۡۚ وَلَا تَتَّبِعۡ أَهۡوَاۤءَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا وَٱلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ وَهُم بِرَبِّهِمۡ یَعۡدِلُونَ ۝١٥٠

Say, `Produce your witnesses who testify that ALLAH has forbidden this.' If they bear witness, bear thou not witness with them, nor follow thou the evil desires of those who treat OUR Signs as lies and those who believe not in the Hereafter and who set up equals to their Lord

qul halumma shuhadāakumu alladhīna yashhadūna anna l-laha ḥarrama hādhā fa-in shahidū falā tashhad maʿahum walā tattabiʿ ahwāa alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā wa-alladhīna lā yu'minūna bil-ākhirati wahum birabbihim yaʿdilūn

19 Guiding Rules of Life

۞ قُلۡ تَعَالَوۡا۟ أَتۡلُ مَا حَرَّمَ رَبُّكُمۡ عَلَیۡكُمۡۖ أَلَّا تُشۡرِكُوا۟ بِهِۦ شَیۡءࣰاۖ وَبِٱلۡوَ ٰلِدَیۡنِ إِحۡسَـٰنࣰاۖ وَلَا تَقۡتُلُوۤا۟ أَوۡلَـٰدَكُم مِّنۡ إِمۡلَـٰقࣲ نَّحۡنُ نَرۡزُقُكُمۡ وَإِیَّاهُمۡۖ وَلَا تَقۡرَبُوا۟ ٱلۡفَوَ ٰحِشَ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنۡهَا وَمَا بَطَنَۖ وَلَا تَقۡتُلُوا۟ ٱلنَّفۡسَ ٱلَّتِی حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّۚ ذَ ٰلِكُمۡ وَصَّىٰكُم بِهِۦ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَعۡقِلُونَ ۝١٥١

Say, `I will recite to you what your Lord has forbidden, that you associate not anything as partner with HIM; and that you do good to parents, and that you slay not your children for fear of poverty - it is WE who provide for you and for them - and that you approach not foul deeds, whether open or secret; and that you slay not the soul the slaying of which ALLAH has forbidden, save in accordance with the demands of justice. That is what HE has enjoined upon you, that you may understand

qul taʿālaw atlu mā ḥarrama rabbukum ʿalaykum allā tush'rikū bihi shayan wabil-wālidayni iḥ'sānan walā taqtulū awlādakum min im'lāqin naḥnu narzuqukum wa-iyyāhum walā taqrabū l-fawāḥisha mā ẓahara min'hā wamā baṭana walā taqtulū l-nafsa allatī ḥarrama l-lahu illā bil-ḥaqi dhālikum waṣṣākum bihi laʿallakum taʿqilūn

وَلَا تَقۡرَبُوا۟ مَالَ ٱلۡیَتِیمِ إِلَّا بِٱلَّتِی هِیَ أَحۡسَنُ حَتَّىٰ یَبۡلُغَ أَشُدَّهُۥۚ وَأَوۡفُوا۟ ٱلۡكَیۡلَ وَٱلۡمِیزَانَ بِٱلۡقِسۡطِۖ لَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفۡسًا إِلَّا وُسۡعَهَاۖ وَإِذَا قُلۡتُمۡ فَٱعۡدِلُوا۟ وَلَوۡ كَانَ ذَا قُرۡبَىٰۖ وَبِعَهۡدِ ٱللَّهِ أَوۡفُوا۟ۚ ذَ ٰلِكُمۡ وَصَّىٰكُم بِهِۦ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝١٥٢

`And approach not the property of the orphan, except in a way which is best, till he attains his maturity. And give full measure and weigh with equity. WE charge not any soul except according to its capacity. And when you speak, observe justice, even if the person concerned be a relative, and fulfill the covenant of ALLAH. That is what HE enjoins upon you, that you may take care.

walā taqrabū māla l-yatīmi illā bi-allatī hiya aḥsanu ḥattā yablugha ashuddahu wa-awfū l-kayla wal-mīzāna bil-qis'ṭi lā nukallifu nafsan illā wus'ʿahā wa-idhā qul'tum fa-iʿ'dilū walaw kāna dhā qur'bā wabiʿahdi l-lahi awfū dhālikum waṣṣākum bihi laʿallakum tadhakkarūn

وَأَنَّ هَـٰذَا صِرَ ٰطِی مُسۡتَقِیمࣰا فَٱتَّبِعُوهُۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا۟ ٱلسُّبُلَ فَتَفَرَّقَ بِكُمۡ عَن سَبِیلِهِۦۚ ذَ ٰلِكُمۡ وَصَّىٰكُم بِهِۦ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَتَّقُونَ ۝١٥٣

And say, `This is MY straight path. So follow it; and follow not other ways, lest they lead you away from HIS way. That is what HE enjoins upon you, that you may be able to guard against evils.

wa-anna hādhā ṣirāṭī mus'taqīman fa-ittabiʿūhu walā tattabiʿū l-subula fatafarraqa bikum ʿan sabīlihi dhālikum waṣṣākum bihi laʿallakum tattaqūn

ثُمَّ ءَاتَیۡنَا مُوسَى ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ تَمَامًا عَلَى ٱلَّذِیۤ أَحۡسَنَ وَتَفۡصِیلࣰا لِّكُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ وَهُدࣰى وَرَحۡمَةࣰ لَّعَلَّهُم بِلِقَاۤءِ رَبِّهِمۡ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١٥٤

Moreover, WE gave Moses the Book - completing the favour upon him who did good, and an explanation of all necessary things, and a guidance and a mercy - that they might believe in the meeting with their Lord

thumma ātaynā mūsā l-kitāba tamāman ʿalā alladhī aḥsana watafṣīlan likulli shayin wahudan waraḥmatan laʿallahum biliqāi rabbihim yu'minūn

20 Goal for the Faithful

وَهَـٰذَا كِتَـٰبٌ أَنزَلۡنَـٰهُ مُبَارَكࣱ فَٱتَّبِعُوهُ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُرۡحَمُونَ ۝١٥٥

And this is a Book which WE have sent down; full of blessings. So follow it, and guard against evils that you may be shown mercy

wahādhā kitābun anzalnāhu mubārakun fa-ittabiʿūhu wa-ittaqū laʿallakum tur'ḥamūn

أَن تَقُولُوۤا۟ إِنَّمَاۤ أُنزِلَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبُ عَلَىٰ طَاۤىِٕفَتَیۡنِ مِن قَبۡلِنَا وَإِن كُنَّا عَن دِرَاسَتِهِمۡ لَغَـٰفِلِینَ ۝١٥٦

Lest you should say, `The Book was sent down only to two peoples before us, and we were indeed unaware of what they read;

an taqūlū innamā unzila l-kitābu ʿalā ṭāifatayni min qablinā wa-in kunnā ʿan dirāsatihim laghāfilīn

أَوۡ تَقُولُوا۟ لَوۡ أَنَّاۤ أُنزِلَ عَلَیۡنَا ٱلۡكِتَـٰبُ لَكُنَّاۤ أَهۡدَىٰ مِنۡهُمۡۚ فَقَدۡ جَاۤءَكُم بَیِّنَةࣱ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ وَهُدࣰى وَرَحۡمَةࣱۚ فَمَنۡ أَظۡلَمُ مِمَّن كَذَّبَ بِءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَصَدَفَ عَنۡهَاۗ سَنَجۡزِی ٱلَّذِینَ یَصۡدِفُونَ عَنۡ ءَایَـٰتِنَا سُوۤءَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَصۡدِفُونَ ۝١٥٧

Or lest you should say, `Had the Book been sent down to us, we should surely have been better guided than they.' There has now come to you a clear evidence from your Lord and a guidance and a mercy. Who, then, is more unjust than he who rejects the Signs of ALLAH and turns away from them? WE will requite those who turns away from OUR Signs with an evil punishment because of their turning away

aw taqūlū law annā unzila ʿalaynā l-kitābu lakunnā ahdā min'hum faqad jāakum bayyinatun min rabbikum wahudan waraḥmatun faman aẓlamu mimman kadhaba biāyāti l-lahi waṣadafa ʿanhā sanajzī alladhīna yaṣdifūna ʿan āyātinā sūa l-ʿadhābi bimā kānū yaṣdifūn

هَلۡ یَنظُرُونَ إِلَّاۤ أَن تَأۡتِیَهُمُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ أَوۡ یَأۡتِیَ رَبُّكَ أَوۡ یَأۡتِیَ بَعۡضُ ءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّكَۗ یَوۡمَ یَأۡتِی بَعۡضُ ءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّكَ لَا یَنفَعُ نَفۡسًا إِیمَـٰنُهَا لَمۡ تَكُنۡ ءَامَنَتۡ مِن قَبۡلُ أَوۡ كَسَبَتۡ فِیۤ إِیمَـٰنِهَا خَیۡرࣰاۗ قُلِ ٱنتَظِرُوۤا۟ إِنَّا مُنتَظِرُونَ ۝١٥٨

They are but waiting that angels should come to them or that thy Lord should come or there should come some of the Signs of thy Lord. The day when some of the Signs of thy Lord shall come, it shall not profit a soul to believe, which had not believed before, nor earned any good by its faith. Say, `Wait ye, we too are waiting.

hal yanẓurūna illā an tatiyahumu l-malāikatu aw yatiya rabbuka aw yatiya baʿḍu āyāti rabbika yawma yatī baʿḍu āyāti rabbika lā yanfaʿu nafsan īmānuhā lam takun āmanat min qablu aw kasabat fī īmānihā khayran quli intaẓirū innā muntaẓirūn

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ فَرَّقُوا۟ دِینَهُمۡ وَكَانُوا۟ شِیَعࣰا لَّسۡتَ مِنۡهُمۡ فِی شَیۡءٍۚ إِنَّمَاۤ أَمۡرُهُمۡ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ یُنَبِّئُهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَفۡعَلُونَ ۝١٥٩

As for those who split up their religion and became divided into sects, thou hast no concern at all with them. Surely, their affair is with ALLAH, then shall HE inform them of what they used to do

inna alladhīna farraqū dīnahum wakānū shiyaʿan lasta min'hum fī shayin innamā amruhum ilā l-lahi thumma yunabbi-uhum bimā kānū yafʿalūn

مَن جَاۤءَ بِٱلۡحَسَنَةِ فَلَهُۥ عَشۡرُ أَمۡثَالِهَاۖ وَمَن جَاۤءَ بِٱلسَّیِّئَةِ فَلَا یُجۡزَىٰۤ إِلَّا مِثۡلَهَا وَهُمۡ لَا یُظۡلَمُونَ ۝١٦٠

Whoso does a good deed shall have ten times as much; but he who does an evil deed, shall be requited only with the like of it; and they shall not be wronged

man jāa bil-ḥasanati falahu ʿashru amthālihā waman jāa bil-sayi-ati falā yuj'zā illā mith'lahā wahum lā yuẓ'lamūn

قُلۡ إِنَّنِی هَدَىٰنِی رَبِّیۤ إِلَىٰ صِرَ ٰطࣲ مُّسۡتَقِیمࣲ دِینࣰا قِیَمࣰا مِّلَّةَ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ حَنِیفࣰاۚ وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِینَ ۝١٦١

Say, `My Lord has guided me unto a straight path - the right religion, the religion of Abraham, the upright. And he was not of those who associated gods with ALLAH

qul innanī hadānī rabbī ilā ṣirāṭin mus'taqīmin dīnan qiyaman millata ib'rāhīma ḥanīfan wamā kāna mina l-mush'rikīn

قُلۡ إِنَّ صَلَاتِی وَنُسُكِی وَمَحۡیَایَ وَمَمَاتِی لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝١٦٢

Say, `My Prayer and my sacrifice and my life and my death are all for ALLAH, the Lord of the worlds

qul inna ṣalātī wanusukī wamaḥyāya wamamātī lillahi rabbi l-ʿālamīn

لَا شَرِیكَ لَهُۥۖ وَبِذَ ٰلِكَ أُمِرۡتُ وَأَنَا۠ أَوَّلُ ٱلۡمُسۡلِمِینَ ۝١٦٣

HE has no partner. And so I am commanded, and I am the first of those who submit.

lā sharīka lahu wabidhālika umir'tu wa-anā awwalu l-mus'limīn

قُلۡ أَغَیۡرَ ٱللَّهِ أَبۡغِی رَبࣰّا وَهُوَ رَبُّ كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲۚ وَلَا تَكۡسِبُ كُلُّ نَفۡسٍ إِلَّا عَلَیۡهَاۚ وَلَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةࣱ وِزۡرَ أُخۡرَىٰۚ ثُمَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُم مَّرۡجِعُكُمۡ فَیُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمۡ فِیهِ تَخۡتَلِفُونَ ۝١٦٤

Say, `Shall I seek a Lord, other than ALLAH while HE is the Lord of all things?' And no soul earns evil but only against itself; nor does any bearer of burden bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord will be your return, and HE will inform you of that wherein you used to differ

qul aghayra l-lahi abghī rabban wahuwa rabbu kulli shayin walā taksibu kullu nafsin illā ʿalayhā walā taziru wāziratun wiz'ra ukh'rā thumma ilā rabbikum marjiʿukum fayunabbi-ukum bimā kuntum fīhi takhtalifūn

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی جَعَلَكُمۡ خَلَـٰۤىِٕفَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَرَفَعَ بَعۡضَكُمۡ فَوۡقَ بَعۡضࣲ دَرَجَـٰتࣲ لِّیَبۡلُوَكُمۡ فِی مَاۤ ءَاتَىٰكُمۡۗ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ سَرِیعُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ وَإِنَّهُۥ لَغَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمُۢ ۝١٦٥

And HE it is who made you successors of others on the earth and has exalted some of you over others in degrees of rank, that HE may try you by that which HE has given you. Surely, thy Lord is Quick in punishment; and surely, HE is Most Forgiving, Merciful

wahuwa alladhī jaʿalakum khalāifa l-arḍi warafaʿa baʿḍakum fawqa baʿḍin darajātin liyabluwakum fī mā ātākum inna rabbaka sarīʿu l-ʿiqābi wa-innahu laghafūrun raḥīmu
