1 Opponents' Doom

۞ الۤمۤصۤ ۝١

Alif, Lam, Meem, Saad.

كِتَـٰبٌ أُنزِلَ إِلَیۡكَ فَلَا یَكُن فِی صَدۡرِكَ حَرَجࣱ مِّنۡهُ لِتُنذِرَ بِهِۦ وَذِكۡرَىٰ لِلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٢

This Knowledge (Book) of the reality and sunnatullah that has been revealed to you, is for you to warn (the unbelievers) and to advise the believers (as to how and what to believe and what to practice)... So, let there be no more distress in you regarding this.

kitābun unzila ilayka falā yakun fī ṣadrika ḥarajun min'hu litundhira bihi wadhik'rā lil'mu'minīn

ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مَاۤ أُنزِلَ إِلَیۡكُم مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦۤ أَوۡلِیَاۤءَۗ قَلِیلࣰا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٣

Follow what has been revealed to you from your Rabb... Do not follow allies (those who give external [information that leads you away from your divine reality] and internal [ego based, carnal information]) outside of your Rabb... How little you remember and contemplate in depth!

ittabiʿū mā unzila ilaykum min rabbikum walā tattabiʿū min dūnihi awliyāa qalīlan mā tadhakkarūn

وَكَم مِّن قَرۡیَةٍ أَهۡلَكۡنَـٰهَا فَجَاۤءَهَا بَأۡسُنَا بَیَـٰتًا أَوۡ هُمۡ قَاۤىِٕلُونَ ۝٤

How many cities of people We have destroyed; Our torment came to them while they were sleeping at night or during the day.

wakam min qaryatin ahlaknāhā fajāahā basunā bayātan aw hum qāilūn

فَمَا كَانَ دَعۡوَىٰهُمۡ إِذۡ جَاۤءَهُم بَأۡسُنَاۤ إِلَّاۤ أَن قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَـٰلِمِینَ ۝٥

When Our torment came to them, their exclamation was no other than, “We were indeed wrongdoers.”

famā kāna daʿwāhum idh jāahum basunā illā an qālū innā kunnā ẓālimīn

فَلَنَسۡءَلَنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ أُرۡسِلَ إِلَیۡهِمۡ وَلَنَسۡءَلَنَّ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝٦

Most certainly We will ask both those to whom a Rasul has been sent and the Rasuls!

falanasalanna alladhīna ur'sila ilayhim walanasalanna l-mur'salīn

فَلَنَقُصَّنَّ عَلَیۡهِم بِعِلۡمࣲۖ وَمَا كُنَّا غَاۤىِٕبِینَ ۝٧

Surely We are going to reveal the truth of the matter! We are not unaware (of what transpires) (He is the Batin and the Zahir – The angelic forces comprising manifestation are derived from Our Names).

falanaquṣṣanna ʿalayhim biʿil'min wamā kunnā ghāibīn

وَٱلۡوَزۡنُ یَوۡمَىِٕذٍ ٱلۡحَقُّۚ فَمَن ثَقُلَتۡ مَوَ ٰزِینُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ ۝٨

The evaluation (of everything that transpires) in that time is done in truth (based on the creeds of Allah)... Those whose scales (evaluations) weigh heavy, they are the ones who will overcome all obstacles and attain liberation.

wal-waznu yawma-idhin l-ḥaqu faman thaqulat mawāzīnuhu fa-ulāika humu l-muf'liḥūn

وَمَنۡ خَفَّتۡ مَوَ ٰزِینُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ خَسِرُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا یَظۡلِمُونَ ۝٩

And those whose scales (evaluations) weigh light, they are the ones who will have wronged Our signs and thus become losers.

waman khaffat mawāzīnuhu fa-ulāika alladhīna khasirū anfusahum bimā kānū biāyātinā yaẓlimūn

وَلَقَدۡ مَكَّنَّـٰكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَجَعَلۡنَا لَكُمۡ فِیهَا مَعَـٰیِشَۗ قَلِیلࣰا مَّا تَشۡكُرُونَ ۝١٠

Indeed We have established you upon the earth and produced blessings therein with which you sustain your livelihood. How little you evaluate!

walaqad makkannākum fī l-arḍi wajaʿalnā lakum fīhā maʿāyisha qalīlan mā tashkurūn

2 Devil's Opposition to Man

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَـٰكُمۡ ثُمَّ صَوَّرۡنَـٰكُمۡ ثُمَّ قُلۡنَا لِلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةِ ٱسۡجُدُوا۟ لِءَادَمَ فَسَجَدُوۤا۟ إِلَّاۤ إِبۡلِیسَ لَمۡ یَكُن مِّنَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِینَ ۝١١

In truth, We have created you and given you form. Then We said to the angels, “Prostrate to Adam (in respect of Adam being the manifestation of the totality of Allah’s Names)”; so they all prostrated (realized their nothingness in the sight of the manifestation of Allah’s Names), except for Iblis. He was not of those who prostrated (He was of the jinn; an ego-based existence).

walaqad khalaqnākum thumma ṣawwarnākum thumma qul'nā lil'malāikati us'judū liādama fasajadū illā ib'līsa lam yakun mina l-sājidīn

قَالَ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَلَّا تَسۡجُدَ إِذۡ أَمَرۡتُكَۖ قَالَ أَنَا۠ خَیۡرࣱ مِّنۡهُ خَلَقۡتَنِی مِن نَّارࣲ وَخَلَقۡتَهُۥ مِن طِینࣲ ۝١٢

(Allah) said, “What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?” (Iblis) said, “I am better than him. You created me from fire (radiation – a specific frequency based existence. Note that the word fire [naar] in this verse is the same as the word used in reference to hellfire. This is worth contemplating upon!) and created him from clay (matter).”

qāla mā manaʿaka allā tasjuda idh amartuka qāla anā khayrun min'hu khalaqtanī min nārin wakhalaqtahu min ṭīni

قَالَ فَٱهۡبِطۡ مِنۡهَا فَمَا یَكُونُ لَكَ أَن تَتَكَبَّرَ فِیهَا فَٱخۡرُجۡ إِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰغِرِینَ ۝١٣

(Allah) said, “Descend from your rank, for this rank is not for arrogance and feeling superior over others! Go! Indeed, you have debased yourself.”

qāla fa-ih'biṭ min'hā famā yakūnu laka an tatakabbara fīhā fa-ukh'ruj innaka mina l-ṣāghirīn

قَالَ أَنظِرۡنِیۤ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ یُبۡعَثُونَ ۝١٤

(Iblis) said, “Reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected (after death).”

qāla anẓir'nī ilā yawmi yub'ʿathūn

قَالَ إِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُنظَرِینَ ۝١٥

(Allah) said, “Indeed you are of those reprieved.”

qāla innaka mina l-munẓarīn

قَالَ فَبِمَاۤ أَغۡوَیۡتَنِی لَأَقۡعُدَنَّ لَهُمۡ صِرَ ٰطَكَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِیمَ ۝١٦

(Iblis) said, “Because You have led me astray, (yudhillu man yashau – based on the reality that He leads astray whom He wills), I shall most certainly sit on Your straight path (sirat al-mustaqim) to prevent them.”

qāla fabimā aghwaytanī la-aqʿudanna lahum ṣirāṭaka l-mus'taqīm

ثُمَّ لَءَاتِیَنَّهُم مِّنۢ بَیۡنِ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ وَمِنۡ خَلۡفِهِمۡ وَعَنۡ أَیۡمَـٰنِهِمۡ وَعَن شَمَاۤىِٕلِهِمۡۖ وَلَا تَجِدُ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ شَـٰكِرِینَ ۝١٧

“Then I will come to them from before them (by provoking ambition in them and glorifying their sense of self [ego] to lead them to the denial of the Truth) and from behind them (by imposing delusive ideas in them and leading them to disguised forms of shirq [duality]) and on their right (by inspiring them to do ‘good deeds’ that will take them away from You) and on their left (by beautifying misdeeds and making the wrong appear as right)... And You will find most of them as ungrateful to You (unable to evaluate what You have given them)!”

thumma laātiyannahum min bayni aydīhim wamin khalfihim waʿan aymānihim waʿan shamāilihim walā tajidu aktharahum shākirīn

قَالَ ٱخۡرُجۡ مِنۡهَا مَذۡءُومࣰا مَّدۡحُورࣰاۖ لَّمَن تَبِعَكَ مِنۡهُمۡ لَأَمۡلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنكُمۡ أَجۡمَعِینَ ۝١٨

(Allah) said, “Leave my rank; debased and distanced (from experiencing your reality)! Whoever follows you among them, I will surely fill hell with you all.”

qāla ukh'ruj min'hā madhūman madḥūran laman tabiʿaka min'hum la-amla-anna jahannama minkum ajmaʿīn

وَیَـٰۤءَادَمُ ٱسۡكُنۡ أَنتَ وَزَوۡجُكَ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ فَكُلَا مِنۡ حَیۡثُ شِئۡتُمَا وَلَا تَقۡرَبَا هَـٰذِهِ ٱلشَّجَرَةَ فَتَكُونَا مِنَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝١٩

“O Adam! Dwell, you and your spouse, in Paradise... Eat and drink from wherever you please, but do not approach this tree (the body – the consequences of accepting yourself as the body)... Lest you be among the wrongdoers.

wayāādamu us'kun anta wazawjuka l-janata fakulā min ḥaythu shi'tumā walā taqrabā hādhihi l-shajarata fatakūnā mina l-ẓālimīn

فَوَسۡوَسَ لَهُمَا ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُ لِیُبۡدِیَ لَهُمَا مَا وُۥرِیَ عَنۡهُمَا مِن سَوۡءَ ٰتِهِمَا وَقَالَ مَا نَهَىٰكُمَا رَبُّكُمَا عَنۡ هَـٰذِهِ ٱلشَّجَرَةِ إِلَّاۤ أَن تَكُونَا مَلَكَیۡنِ أَوۡ تَكُونَا مِنَ ٱلۡخَـٰلِدِینَ ۝٢٠

Thereupon Satan whispered suspicions to them to make them aware of their ego and corporeality... He said, “The reason your Rabb forbids you from this tree (experiencing your corporeality) is so you do not become two angels (in the realm of forces) and live eternally!”

fawaswasa lahumā l-shayṭānu liyub'diya lahumā mā wūriya ʿanhumā min sawātihimā waqāla mā nahākumā rabbukumā ʿan hādhihi l-shajarati illā an takūnā malakayni aw takūnā mina l-khālidīn

وَقَاسَمَهُمَاۤ إِنِّی لَكُمَا لَمِنَ ٱلنَّـٰصِحِینَ ۝٢١

“And he swore to them, ‘Indeed, I am from among the advisors’.”

waqāsamahumā innī lakumā lamina l-nāṣiḥīn

فَدَلَّىٰهُمَا بِغُرُورࣲۚ فَلَمَّا ذَاقَا ٱلشَّجَرَةَ بَدَتۡ لَهُمَا سَوۡءَ ٰتُهُمَا وَطَفِقَا یَخۡصِفَانِ عَلَیۡهِمَا مِن وَرَقِ ٱلۡجَنَّةِۖ وَنَادَىٰهُمَا رَبُّهُمَاۤ أَلَمۡ أَنۡهَكُمَا عَن تِلۡكُمَا ٱلشَّجَرَةِ وَأَقُل لَّكُمَاۤ إِنَّ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنَ لَكُمَا عَدُوࣱّ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٢٢

Thus he deceived them (by imposing deluding thoughts, making them think they are the physical body; drawing their attention to their corporeality). And when they tasted that tree (sex; the mechanism of reproduction) they became aware of their corporeal-bodily selves! They began to cover themselves with the leaves of Paradise (they tried to suppress their corporeality with the forces of the Names present in their essence)... Their Rabb called to them, “Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is an obvious enemy to you?”

fadallāhumā bighurūrin falammā dhāqā l-shajarata badat lahumā sawātuhumā waṭafiqā yakhṣifāni ʿalayhimā min waraqi l-janati wanādāhumā rabbuhumā alam anhakumā ʿan til'kumā l-shajarati wa-aqul lakumā inna l-shayṭāna lakumā ʿaduwwun mubīnu

قَالَا رَبَّنَا ظَلَمۡنَاۤ أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمۡ تَغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَتَرۡحَمۡنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرِینَ ۝٢٣

They said, “Our Rabb! We have wronged ourselves... If you do not forgive us and grace us we will surely be among the losers.”

qālā rabbanā ẓalamnā anfusanā wa-in lam taghfir lanā watarḥamnā lanakūnanna mina l-khāsirīn

قَالَ ٱهۡبِطُوا۟ بَعۡضُكُمۡ لِبَعۡضٍ عَدُوࣱّۖ وَلَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مُسۡتَقَرࣱّ وَمَتَـٰعٌ إِلَىٰ حِینࣲ ۝٢٤

(Allah) said, “Descend (to the constricted lower state of bodily existence from a life governed by pure forces) as enemies to one another (the duality of body and consciousness)! And for you on the earth (bodily state of existence) is a set time of existence and a set period, in which you will receive your share of provisions.

qāla ih'biṭū baʿḍukum libaʿḍin ʿaduwwun walakum fī l-arḍi mus'taqarrun wamatāʿun ilā ḥīni

قَالَ فِیهَا تَحۡیَوۡنَ وَفِیهَا تَمُوتُونَ وَمِنۡهَا تُخۡرَجُونَ ۝٢٥

He said, “You will live therein and die therein and from it (the body) you will be brought forth.”

qāla fīhā taḥyawna wafīhā tamūtūna wamin'hā tukh'rajūn

3 Warning against Devil's Insinuations

یَـٰبَنِیۤ ءَادَمَ قَدۡ أَنزَلۡنَا عَلَیۡكُمۡ لِبَاسࣰا یُوَ ٰرِی سَوۡءَ ٰتِكُمۡ وَرِیشࣰاۖ وَلِبَاسُ ٱلتَّقۡوَىٰ ذَ ٰلِكَ خَیۡرࣱۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ مِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَذَّكَّرُونَ ۝٢٦

O Children of Adam... We have indeed disclosed to you clothing (knowledge of the reality) to cover your corporeality and as adornment (treats from His bounty)... The clothing for protection is surely the best... This is from the signs of Allah, perhaps they will think and take a lesson.

yābanī ādama qad anzalnā ʿalaykum libāsan yuwārī sawātikum warīshan walibāsu l-taqwā dhālika khayrun dhālika min āyāti l-lahi laʿallahum yadhakkarūn

یَـٰبَنِیۤ ءَادَمَ لَا یَفۡتِنَنَّكُمُ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُ كَمَاۤ أَخۡرَجَ أَبَوَیۡكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ یَنزِعُ عَنۡهُمَا لِبَاسَهُمَا لِیُرِیَهُمَا سَوۡءَ ٰتِهِمَاۤۚ إِنَّهُۥ یَرَىٰكُمۡ هُوَ وَقَبِیلُهُۥ مِنۡ حَیۡثُ لَا تَرَوۡنَهُمۡۗ إِنَّا جَعَلۡنَا ٱلشَّیَـٰطِینَ أَوۡلِیَاۤءَ لِلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٢٧

O Children of Adam! Do not let Satan (your body) tempt you into provocation like he removed your parents from Paradise by showing them their corporeality and thus stripping them of their clothes (angelic forces)! For, he and his helpers (all satanic forces that serve the same function) see you from a place where you do not see them... We have made the devils (corruptive forces – conditioned beliefs based on the five senses) befriend the unbelievers.

yābanī ādama lā yaftinannakumu l-shayṭānu kamā akhraja abawaykum mina l-janati yanziʿu ʿanhumā libāsahumā liyuriyahumā sawātihimā innahu yarākum huwa waqabīluhu min ḥaythu lā tarawnahum innā jaʿalnā l-shayāṭīna awliyāa lilladhīna lā yu'minūn

وَإِذَا فَعَلُوا۟ فَـٰحِشَةࣰ قَالُوا۟ وَجَدۡنَا عَلَیۡهَاۤ ءَابَاۤءَنَا وَٱللَّهُ أَمَرَنَا بِهَاۗ قُلۡ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یَأۡمُرُ بِٱلۡفَحۡشَاۤءِۖ أَتَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٢٨

Whenever they commit an indecency (an action or thought leading to duality or to the denial of the reality) they say, “We found our fathers doing it, and this is what Allah ordered us to do”... Say, “Allah certainly does not order indecency! Are you attributing to Allah things about which you have no knowledge?”

wa-idhā faʿalū fāḥishatan qālū wajadnā ʿalayhā ābāanā wal-lahu amaranā bihā qul inna l-laha lā yamuru bil-faḥshāi ataqūlūna ʿalā l-lahi mā lā taʿlamūn

قُلۡ أَمَرَ رَبِّی بِٱلۡقِسۡطِۖ وَأَقِیمُوا۟ وُجُوهَكُمۡ عِندَ كُلِّ مَسۡجِدࣲ وَٱدۡعُوهُ مُخۡلِصِینَ لَهُ ٱلدِّینَۚ كَمَا بَدَأَكُمۡ تَعُودُونَ ۝٢٩

Say, “My Rabb has ordered for you to live justly; giving the due rights of all things... Set your faces (experience the dissolution of your ego through submission) in every masjid (place of prostration) and pray only to Him by specifying your understanding of religion to Him alone... You will return to Him in your initial state (the state of Adam in Paradise).

qul amara rabbī bil-qis'ṭi wa-aqīmū wujūhakum ʿinda kulli masjidin wa-id'ʿūhu mukh'liṣīna lahu l-dīna kamā bada-akum taʿūdūn

فَرِیقًا هَدَىٰ وَفَرِیقًا حَقَّ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةُۚ إِنَّهُمُ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ ٱلشَّیَـٰطِینَ أَوۡلِیَاۤءَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَیَحۡسَبُونَ أَنَّهُم مُّهۡتَدُونَ ۝٣٠

A group of you He guided and a group deserved to be in falsity! Indeed, they (those who went astray) had taken the devils (the deviators) as allies instead of Allah, and they consider themselves as rightly guided!

farīqan hadā wafarīqan ḥaqqa ʿalayhimu l-ḍalālatu innahumu ittakhadhū l-shayāṭīna awliyāa min dūni l-lahi wayaḥsabūna annahum muh'tadūn

۞ یَـٰبَنِیۤ ءَادَمَ خُذُوا۟ زِینَتَكُمۡ عِندَ كُلِّ مَسۡجِدࣲ وَكُلُوا۟ وَٱشۡرَبُوا۟ وَلَا تُسۡرِفُوۤا۟ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا یُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِینَ ۝٣١

O Children of Adam, wear your adornment in every place of prostration... Eat and drink (evaluate these) but do not waste (do not consume unnecessarily)... For, He does not favor those who waste (misuse the blessings they possess)!

yābanī ādama khudhū zīnatakum ʿinda kulli masjidin wakulū wa-ish'rabū walā tus'rifū innahu lā yuḥibbu l-mus'rifīn

4 Messengers to uplift Humanity

قُلۡ مَنۡ حَرَّمَ زِینَةَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّتِیۤ أَخۡرَجَ لِعِبَادِهِۦ وَٱلطَّیِّبَـٰتِ مِنَ ٱلرِّزۡقِۚ قُلۡ هِیَ لِلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا خَالِصَةࣰ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِۗ كَذَ ٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ لِقَوۡمࣲ یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣٢

Say, “Who has prohibited the beautiful things and the clean – pure provisions that Allah has brought forth for His servants?”... Say, “They are for those who believe during the worldly life; and on Doomsday, it shall be theirs exclusively.” Thus We detail Our signs for those with comprehension.

qul man ḥarrama zīnata l-lahi allatī akhraja liʿibādihi wal-ṭayibāti mina l-riz'qi qul hiya lilladhīna āmanū fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā khāliṣatan yawma l-qiyāmati kadhālika nufaṣṣilu l-āyāti liqawmin yaʿlamūn

قُلۡ إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ رَبِّیَ ٱلۡفَوَ ٰحِشَ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنۡهَا وَمَا بَطَنَ وَٱلۡإِثۡمَ وَٱلۡبَغۡیَ بِغَیۡرِ ٱلۡحَقِّ وَأَن تُشۡرِكُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ مَا لَمۡ یُنَزِّلۡ بِهِۦ سُلۡطَـٰنࣰا وَأَن تَقُولُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣٣

Say, “The truth is, my Rabb has only forbidden the following: Apparent and concealed indecencies, crime (in the sight of Allah), oppression (aspiring for the properties of others and desiring to seize it), associating things about which there is no proof of partnership, and saying things about Allah that you do not know.”

qul innamā ḥarrama rabbiya l-fawāḥisha mā ẓahara min'hā wamā baṭana wal-ith'ma wal-baghya bighayri l-ḥaqi wa-an tush'rikū bil-lahi mā lam yunazzil bihi sul'ṭānan wa-an taqūlū ʿalā l-lahi mā lā taʿlamūn

وَلِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلࣱۖ فَإِذَا جَاۤءَ أَجَلُهُمۡ لَا یَسۡتَأۡخِرُونَ سَاعَةࣰ وَلَا یَسۡتَقۡدِمُونَ ۝٣٤

And for all people a specified term (lifespan) is set. So when the end of their time has come, they can neither delay it by a single moment, nor can they hasten it.

walikulli ummatin ajalun fa-idhā jāa ajaluhum lā yastakhirūna sāʿatan walā yastaqdimūn

یَـٰبَنِیۤ ءَادَمَ إِمَّا یَأۡتِیَنَّكُمۡ رُسُلࣱ مِّنكُمۡ یَقُصُّونَ عَلَیۡكُمۡ ءَایَـٰتِی فَمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰ وَأَصۡلَحَ فَلَا خَوۡفٌ عَلَیۡهِمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ یَحۡزَنُونَ ۝٣٥

O Children of Adam... When Rasuls come from among you to relate and explain Our signs to you, whoever protects and corrects himself will have no fear nor will they be grieved.

yābanī ādama immā yatiyannakum rusulun minkum yaquṣṣūna ʿalaykum āyātī famani ittaqā wa-aṣlaḥa falā khawfun ʿalayhim walā hum yaḥzanūn

وَٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ عَنۡهَاۤ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِۖ هُمۡ فِیهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝٣٦

Those who deny Our signs (the manifestations of the Names) and who are arrogant toward them, they are the people of fire (Naar, a specific wavelength, radiation)! They will abide therein eternally.

wa-alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā wa-is'takbarū ʿanhā ulāika aṣḥābu l-nāri hum fīhā khālidūn

فَمَنۡ أَظۡلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفۡتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا أَوۡ كَذَّبَ بِءَایَـٰتِهِۦۤۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ یَنَالُهُمۡ نَصِیبُهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِۖ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا جَاۤءَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُنَا یَتَوَفَّوۡنَهُمۡ قَالُوۤا۟ أَیۡنَ مَا كُنتُمۡ تَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِۖ قَالُوا۟ ضَلُّوا۟ عَنَّا وَشَهِدُوا۟ عَلَىٰۤ أَنفُسِهِمۡ أَنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ كَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٣٧

Who does more wrong than he who lies about Allah or denies His existence in His signs? They will attain their portion of the Book (the revealed knowledge)... When finally our Rasuls come to them to take them in death, they will say, “Where are those you used to invoke besides Allah, those you assumed existed?”... They will say, “They are lost and gone” and will bear witness against themselves that they were deniers of the reality.

faman aẓlamu mimmani if'tarā ʿalā l-lahi kadhiban aw kadhaba biāyātihi ulāika yanāluhum naṣībuhum mina l-kitābi ḥattā idhā jāathum rusulunā yatawaffawnahum qālū ayna mā kuntum tadʿūna min dūni l-lahi qālū ḍallū ʿannā washahidū ʿalā anfusihim annahum kānū kāfirīn

قَالَ ٱدۡخُلُوا۟ فِیۤ أُمَمࣲ قَدۡ خَلَتۡ مِن قَبۡلِكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ وَٱلۡإِنسِ فِی ٱلنَّارِۖ كُلَّمَا دَخَلَتۡ أُمَّةࣱ لَّعَنَتۡ أُخۡتَهَاۖ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا ٱدَّارَكُوا۟ فِیهَا جَمِیعࣰا قَالَتۡ أُخۡرَىٰهُمۡ لِأُولَىٰهُمۡ رَبَّنَا هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ أَضَلُّونَا فَءَاتِهِمۡ عَذَابࣰا ضِعۡفࣰا مِّنَ ٱلنَّارِۖ قَالَ لِكُلࣲّ ضِعۡفࣱ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣٨

(Allah) will say, “Enter among those who had passed on before you of the jinni and mankind into the fire (Naar, radiation, a searing environment of wavelengths)”... Every time a new community enters, it will curse it’s close ones with whom it shared the same belief! Finally, when all of them have entered, the latter group will say about the former groups, “Our Rabb... They are the one who corrupted us... So, give them double the suffering of fire (radiation)”... He will say, “For all of you there is double, but you do not know.”

qāla ud'khulū fī umamin qad khalat min qablikum mina l-jini wal-insi fī l-nāri kullamā dakhalat ummatun laʿanat ukh'tahā ḥattā idhā iddārakū fīhā jamīʿan qālat ukh'rāhum liūlāhum rabbanā hāulāi aḍallūnā faātihim ʿadhāban ḍiʿ'fan mina l-nāri qāla likullin ḍiʿ'fun walākin lā taʿlamūn

وَقَالَتۡ أُولَىٰهُمۡ لِأُخۡرَىٰهُمۡ فَمَا كَانَ لَكُمۡ عَلَیۡنَا مِن فَضۡلࣲ فَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡسِبُونَ ۝٣٩

The former ones will say to the latter ones, “You have no superiority over us... Taste the suffering brought by your own doings!”

waqālat ūlāhum li-ukh'rāhum famā kāna lakum ʿalaynā min faḍlin fadhūqū l-ʿadhāba bimā kuntum taksibūn

5 Acceptors of Message

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ عَنۡهَا لَا تُفَتَّحُ لَهُمۡ أَبۡوَ ٰبُ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ وَلَا یَدۡخُلُونَ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ حَتَّىٰ یَلِجَ ٱلۡجَمَلُ فِی سَمِّ ٱلۡخِیَاطِۚ وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ ۝٤٠

Indeed, those who deny Our signs and are arrogant toward them, the gates of Heaven (the observation of the reality) will not be opened for them, nor will they enter Paradise (the state of experiencing the Names comprising their essence) until a rob/camel enters through the eye of a needle (i.e. never)... Thus do We recompense the criminals!

inna alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā wa-is'takbarū ʿanhā lā tufattaḥu lahum abwābu l-samāi walā yadkhulūna l-janata ḥattā yalija l-jamalu fī sammi l-khiyāṭi wakadhālika najzī l-muj'rimīn

لَهُم مِّن جَهَنَّمَ مِهَادࣱ وَمِن فَوۡقِهِمۡ غَوَاشࣲۚ وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٤١

They will have a bed from Hell and coverings (curtains) over them (their consciousness)... Thus do We recompense the wrongdoers.

lahum min jahannama mihādun wamin fawqihim ghawāshin wakadhālika najzī l-ẓālimīn

وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفۡسًا إِلَّا وُسۡعَهَاۤ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡجَنَّةِۖ هُمۡ فِیهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝٤٢

As for those who believed and performed the requirements of their faith... We do not charge anybody with what is beyond their capacity; they are the people of Paradise... They will abide therein eternally.

wa-alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti lā nukallifu nafsan illā wus'ʿahā ulāika aṣḥābu l-janati hum fīhā khālidūn

وَنَزَعۡنَا مَا فِی صُدُورِهِم مِّنۡ غِلࣲّ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهِمُ ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُۖ وَقَالُوا۟ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِی هَدَىٰنَا لِهَـٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لِنَهۡتَدِیَ لَوۡلَاۤ أَنۡ هَدَىٰنَا ٱللَّهُۖ لَقَدۡ جَاۤءَتۡ رُسُلُ رَبِّنَا بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ وَنُودُوۤا۟ أَن تِلۡكُمُ ٱلۡجَنَّةُ أُورِثۡتُمُوهَا بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٤٣

We have removed all forms of hatred and resentment from within them... Rivers flow beneath them... They will say, “That which has guided us here belongs to Allah, HAMD (the evaluation of the corporeal worlds created with His Names, as He wills, belongs to Allah)! Had Allah not guided us, we could not have attained this... Indeed, the Rasuls of Allah have come in Truth. And they will be called, “This is Paradise, which you have been made to inherit due to the things you have done.”

wanazaʿnā mā fī ṣudūrihim min ghillin tajrī min taḥtihimu l-anhāru waqālū l-ḥamdu lillahi alladhī hadānā lihādhā wamā kunnā linahtadiya lawlā an hadānā l-lahu laqad jāat rusulu rabbinā bil-ḥaqi wanūdū an til'kumu l-janatu ūrith'tumūhā bimā kuntum taʿmalūn

وَنَادَىٰۤ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ أَصۡحَـٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ أَن قَدۡ وَجَدۡنَا مَا وَعَدَنَا رَبُّنَا حَقࣰّا فَهَلۡ وَجَدتُّم مَّا وَعَدَ رَبُّكُمۡ حَقࣰّاۖ قَالُوا۟ نَعَمۡۚ فَأَذَّنَ مُؤَذِّنُۢ بَیۡنَهُمۡ أَن لَّعۡنَةُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَى ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٤٤

The people of Paradise will call out to the people of the fire, “We have found what our Rabb promised us to be true... Have you found what your Rabb promised you to be true?”... They said, “Yes.” Then an announcer among them will announce, “The curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers.”

wanādā aṣḥābu l-janati aṣḥāba l-nāri an qad wajadnā mā waʿadanā rabbunā ḥaqqan fahal wajadttum mā waʿada rabbukum ḥaqqan qālū naʿam fa-adhana mu-adhinun baynahum an laʿnatu l-lahi ʿalā l-ẓālimīn

ٱلَّذِینَ یَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَیَبۡغُونَهَا عِوَجࣰا وَهُم بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ كَـٰفِرُونَ ۝٤٥

(They are the ones) who prevent you from the way of Allah and who want to lead you astray... They are the ones who deny the eternal life to come.

alladhīna yaṣuddūna ʿan sabīli l-lahi wayabghūnahā ʿiwajan wahum bil-ākhirati kāfirūn

وَبَیۡنَهُمَا حِجَابࣱۚ وَعَلَى ٱلۡأَعۡرَافِ رِجَالࣱ یَعۡرِفُونَ كُلَّۢا بِسِیمَىٰهُمۡۚ وَنَادَوۡا۟ أَصۡحَـٰبَ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ أَن سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَیۡكُمۡۚ لَمۡ یَدۡخُلُوهَا وَهُمۡ یَطۡمَعُونَ ۝٤٦

There is a curtain between the two (Paradise and Hell)... And on A’raf (the state of those who have believed in their essence, but have not yet duly experienced its outcome) are men who recognize each of them by the marks on their faces... They will call out to the people of Paradise, “Assalamu alaikum.” They (these men) have not yet entered Paradise, but they long for it.

wabaynahumā ḥijābun waʿalā l-aʿrāfi rijālun yaʿrifūna kullan bisīmāhum wanādaw aṣḥāba l-janati an salāmun ʿalaykum lam yadkhulūhā wahum yaṭmaʿūn

۞ وَإِذَا صُرِفَتۡ أَبۡصَـٰرُهُمۡ تِلۡقَاۤءَ أَصۡحَـٰبِ ٱلنَّارِ قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا لَا تَجۡعَلۡنَا مَعَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٤٧

And when their eyes turn toward the people of fire (Naar, radiation), they will say, “Our Rabb! Do not place us with the wrongdoers.”

wa-idhā ṣurifat abṣāruhum til'qāa aṣḥābi l-nāri qālū rabbanā lā tajʿalnā maʿa l-qawmi l-ẓālimīn

6 Helplessness of Opponents

وَنَادَىٰۤ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡأَعۡرَافِ رِجَالࣰا یَعۡرِفُونَهُم بِسِیمَىٰهُمۡ قَالُوا۟ مَاۤ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنكُمۡ جَمۡعُكُمۡ وَمَا كُنتُمۡ تَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ ۝٤٨

The people of the A’raf (those who have believed in their essence but have not yet duly experienced its outcome) will call out to men (of hell) whom they recognize by their mark, “Of no avail to you was your wealth or your arrogance!”

wanādā aṣḥābu l-aʿrāfi rijālan yaʿrifūnahum bisīmāhum qālū mā aghnā ʿankum jamʿukum wamā kuntum tastakbirūn

أَهَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ ٱلَّذِینَ أَقۡسَمۡتُمۡ لَا یَنَالُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِرَحۡمَةٍۚ ٱدۡخُلُوا۟ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ لَا خَوۡفٌ عَلَیۡكُمۡ وَلَاۤ أَنتُمۡ تَحۡزَنُونَ ۝٤٩

“Are these the ones whom you swore that Allah will not embrace with His grace?” (Whereas now they are told): “Enter Paradise! There is no fear for you... And you will not be grieved!”

ahāulāi alladhīna aqsamtum lā yanāluhumu l-lahu biraḥmatin ud'khulū l-janata lā khawfun ʿalaykum walā antum taḥzanūn

وَنَادَىٰۤ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ أَصۡحَـٰبَ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ أَنۡ أَفِیضُوا۟ عَلَیۡنَا مِنَ ٱلۡمَاۤءِ أَوۡ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُۚ قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ حَرَّمَهُمَا عَلَى ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٥٠

The people of fire (Naar, radiation) will call out to the people of Paradise, “Pour upon us some of that water (knowledge) or from whatever Allah has provided you (the forces comprising heavenly life)”... (They will be answered): “Indeed Allah has made this forbidden upon the deniers of the knowledge of the reality.”

wanādā aṣḥābu l-nāri aṣḥāba l-janati an afīḍū ʿalaynā mina l-māi aw mimmā razaqakumu l-lahu qālū inna l-laha ḥarramahumā ʿalā l-kāfirīn

ٱلَّذِینَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ دِینَهُمۡ لَهۡوࣰا وَلَعِبࣰا وَغَرَّتۡهُمُ ٱلۡحَیَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡیَاۚ فَٱلۡیَوۡمَ نَنسَىٰهُمۡ كَمَا نَسُوا۟ لِقَاۤءَ یَوۡمِهِمۡ هَـٰذَا وَمَا كَانُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا یَجۡحَدُونَ ۝٥١

They are those who have turned their religion (the knowledge of the reality and the System; sunnatullah) into an amusement and entertainment, who have been deluded by the (vile) worldly life... Just as they have forgotten the meeting of this day and consciously denied Our signs, We will forget them today!

alladhīna ittakhadhū dīnahum lahwan walaʿiban wagharrathumu l-ḥayatu l-dun'yā fal-yawma nansāhum kamā nasū liqāa yawmihim hādhā wamā kānū biāyātinā yajḥadūn

وَلَقَدۡ جِئۡنَـٰهُم بِكِتَـٰبࣲ فَصَّلۡنَـٰهُ عَلَىٰ عِلۡمٍ هُدࣰى وَرَحۡمَةࣰ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٥٢

And certainly We have brought them a source of information and detailed it based on knowledge, as a signpost to grace and guidance to a people who believe.

walaqad ji'nāhum bikitābin faṣṣalnāhu ʿalā ʿil'min hudan waraḥmatan liqawmin yu'minūn

هَلۡ یَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا تَأۡوِیلَهُۥۚ یَوۡمَ یَأۡتِی تَأۡوِیلُهُۥ یَقُولُ ٱلَّذِینَ نَسُوهُ مِن قَبۡلُ قَدۡ جَاۤءَتۡ رُسُلُ رَبِّنَا بِٱلۡحَقِّ فَهَل لَّنَا مِن شُفَعَاۤءَ فَیَشۡفَعُوا۟ لَنَاۤ أَوۡ نُرَدُّ فَنَعۡمَلَ غَیۡرَ ٱلَّذِی كُنَّا نَعۡمَلُۚ قَدۡ خَسِرُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ وَضَلَّ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ یَفۡتَرُونَ ۝٥٣

Do they wait only for its interpretation (its absolute meaning)? The time when its interpretation becomes manifest, those who forgot before will say, “Indeed the Rasuls of our Rabb have brought the Truth... Will there be any intercessors to intercede for us or could we be sent back so that we do differently to what we (previously) did!” They have indeed put themselves into loss, and realized the emptiness of what they assumed existed!

hal yanẓurūna illā tawīlahu yawma yatī tawīluhu yaqūlu alladhīna nasūhu min qablu qad jāat rusulu rabbinā bil-ḥaqi fahal lanā min shufaʿāa fayashfaʿū lanā aw nuraddu fanaʿmala ghayra alladhī kunnā naʿmalu qad khasirū anfusahum waḍalla ʿanhum mā kānū yaftarūn

7 Righteous will prosper

إِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ فِی سِتَّةِ أَیَّامࣲ ثُمَّ ٱسۡتَوَىٰ عَلَى ٱلۡعَرۡشِۖ یُغۡشِی ٱلَّیۡلَ ٱلنَّهَارَ یَطۡلُبُهُۥ حَثِیثࣰا وَٱلشَّمۡسَ وَٱلۡقَمَرَ وَٱلنُّجُومَ مُسَخَّرَ ٰتِۭ بِأَمۡرِهِۦۤۗ أَلَا لَهُ ٱلۡخَلۡقُ وَٱلۡأَمۡرُۗ تَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٥٤

Indeed your Rabb is Allah, the One who created the heavens and the earth in six stages, then established Himself on the Throne (i.e. began to administer them as He pleased)... He throws the cover of the night over the day, which rapidly follows the night... The sun, the moon, and the stars fulfill His command... Know without doubt that both creation and judgment belong to Him! Exalted is Allah, the Rabb of the worlds!

inna rabbakumu l-lahu alladhī khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa fī sittati ayyāmin thumma is'tawā ʿalā l-ʿarshi yugh'shī al-layla l-nahāra yaṭlubuhu ḥathīthan wal-shamsa wal-qamara wal-nujūma musakharātin bi-amrihi alā lahu l-khalqu wal-amru tabāraka l-lahu rabbu l-ʿālamīn

ٱدۡعُوا۟ رَبَّكُمۡ تَضَرُّعࣰا وَخُفۡیَةًۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا یُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُعۡتَدِینَ ۝٥٥

Pray to your Rabb beseechingly and genuinely... Indeed He does not like the transgressors.

id'ʿū rabbakum taḍarruʿan wakhuf'yatan innahu lā yuḥibbu l-muʿ'tadīn

وَلَا تُفۡسِدُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ بَعۡدَ إِصۡلَـٰحِهَا وَٱدۡعُوهُ خَوۡفࣰا وَطَمَعًاۚ إِنَّ رَحۡمَتَ ٱللَّهِ قَرِیبࣱ مِّنَ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝٥٦

And do not cause corruption on earth after its reformation... Pray to him with fear and with the belief that He will respond. Indeed, the grace of Allah is near the doers of good (the grace of Allah reaches you by the hand that delivers it).

walā tuf'sidū fī l-arḍi baʿda iṣ'lāḥihā wa-id'ʿūhu khawfan waṭamaʿan inna raḥmata l-lahi qarībun mina l-muḥ'sinīn

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی یُرۡسِلُ ٱلرِّیَـٰحَ بُشۡرَۢا بَیۡنَ یَدَیۡ رَحۡمَتِهِۦۖ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَاۤ أَقَلَّتۡ سَحَابࣰا ثِقَالࣰا سُقۡنَـٰهُ لِبَلَدࣲ مَّیِّتࣲ فَأَنزَلۡنَا بِهِ ٱلۡمَاۤءَ فَأَخۡرَجۡنَا بِهِۦ مِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ نُخۡرِجُ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٥٧

It is HU who discloses the winds as good tidings before His grace... When the winds finally carry the heavy clouds, We drive them to a dead land and disclose water from them and bring forth all types of fruit therein... Thus We bring forth the dead... Perhaps you will contemplate on what this means!

wahuwa alladhī yur'silu l-riyāḥa bush'ran bayna yaday raḥmatihi ḥattā idhā aqallat saḥāban thiqālan suq'nāhu libaladin mayyitin fa-anzalnā bihi l-māa fa-akhrajnā bihi min kulli l-thamarāti kadhālika nukh'riju l-mawtā laʿallakum tadhakkarūn

وَٱلۡبَلَدُ ٱلطَّیِّبُ یَخۡرُجُ نَبَاتُهُۥ بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِۦۖ وَٱلَّذِی خَبُثَ لَا یَخۡرُجُ إِلَّا نَكِدࣰاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ نُصَرِّفُ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ لِقَوۡمࣲ یَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٥٨

The vegetation of the clean and good land emerges with the permission (Bi-izni RabbiH?) of your Rabb... But from filth, nothing emerges other than what is useless... Thus We diversify the signs for a people who evaluate.

wal-baladu l-ṭayibu yakhruju nabātuhu bi-idh'ni rabbihi wa-alladhī khabutha lā yakhruju illā nakidan kadhālika nuṣarrifu l-āyāti liqawmin yashkurūn

8 Noah

لَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦ فَقَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَـٰهٍ غَیۡرُهُۥۤ إِنِّیۤ أَخَافُ عَلَیۡكُمۡ عَذَابَ یَوۡمٍ عَظِیمࣲ ۝٥٩

We had certainly revealed Noah to his people and he had said, “O my people, serve Allah... You have no deity besides Him... Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous time.”

laqad arsalnā nūḥan ilā qawmihi faqāla yāqawmi uʿ'budū l-laha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruhu innī akhāfu ʿalaykum ʿadhāba yawmin ʿaẓīmi

قَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦۤ إِنَّا لَنَرَىٰكَ فِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝٦٠

The leaders in traditional opinion among his people said, “Indeed, we see you in clear error.”

qāla l-mala-u min qawmihi innā lanarāka fī ḍalālin mubīni

قَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ لَیۡسَ بِی ضَلَـٰلَةࣱ وَلَـٰكِنِّی رَسُولࣱ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٦١

Noah said, “O my people... There is no error in my view... But I am a Rasul from the Rabb of the worlds.”

qāla yāqawmi laysa bī ḍalālatun walākinnī rasūlun min rabbi l-ʿālamīn

أُبَلِّغُكُمۡ رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ رَبِّی وَأَنصَحُ لَكُمۡ وَأَعۡلَمُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٦٢

“I convey the message of my Rabb to you... I talk in your favor (for) I know (with the bestowed knowledge) from Allah what you do not know.”

uballighukum risālāti rabbī wa-anṣaḥu lakum wa-aʿlamu mina l-lahi mā lā taʿlamūn

أَوَعَجِبۡتُمۡ أَن جَاۤءَكُمۡ ذِكۡرࣱ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ عَلَىٰ رَجُلࣲ مِّنكُمۡ لِیُنذِرَكُمۡ وَلِتَتَّقُوا۟ وَلَعَلَّكُمۡ تُرۡحَمُونَ ۝٦٣

“Are you surprised that your Rabb notifies you through a man among you, who He has charged to warn you, so that you may be protected and attain grace?”

awaʿajib'tum an jāakum dhik'run min rabbikum ʿalā rajulin minkum liyundhirakum walitattaqū walaʿallakum tur'ḥamūn

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَنجَیۡنَـٰهُ وَٱلَّذِینَ مَعَهُۥ فِی ٱلۡفُلۡكِ وَأَغۡرَقۡنَا ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَاۤۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ قَوۡمًا عَمِینَ ۝٦٤

But they denied him... So We saved him and those with him in the ship... And We drowned those who denied Our signs (manifestations of the Names)... Indeed, they were a people with no insight!

fakadhabūhu fa-anjaynāhu wa-alladhīna maʿahu fī l-ful'ki wa-aghraqnā alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā innahum kānū qawman ʿamīn

9 Hud

۞ وَإِلَىٰ عَادٍ أَخَاهُمۡ هُودࣰاۚ قَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَـٰهٍ غَیۡرُهُۥۤۚ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ۝٦٥

And to (the people of) Aad, their brother Hud... (He said) “O my people... serve Allah... you have no deity besides Him... Will you still not protect yourselves?”

wa-ilā ʿādin akhāhum hūdan qāla yāqawmi uʿ'budū l-laha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruhu afalā tattaqūn

قَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦۤ إِنَّا لَنَرَىٰكَ فِی سَفَاهَةࣲ وَإِنَّا لَنَظُنُّكَ مِنَ ٱلۡكَـٰذِبِینَ ۝٦٦

The leaders among the disbelievers of his people said, “We see you in foolishness... and we presume you are a liar.”

qāla l-mala-u alladhīna kafarū min qawmihi innā lanarāka fī safāhatin wa-innā lanaẓunnuka mina l-kādhibīn

قَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ لَیۡسَ بِی سَفَاهَةࣱ وَلَـٰكِنِّی رَسُولࣱ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٦٧

(Hud) said, “O my people... There is no foolishness in me... But I am a Rasul of the Rabb of the worlds.”

qāla yāqawmi laysa bī safāhatun walākinnī rasūlun min rabbi l-ʿālamīn

أُبَلِّغُكُمۡ رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ رَبِّی وَأَنَا۠ لَكُمۡ نَاصِحٌ أَمِینٌ ۝٦٨

“I convey to you the messages of my Rabb... I am a trustworthy advisor to you.”

uballighukum risālāti rabbī wa-anā lakum nāṣiḥun amīnu

أَوَعَجِبۡتُمۡ أَن جَاۤءَكُمۡ ذِكۡرࣱ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ عَلَىٰ رَجُلࣲ مِّنكُمۡ لِیُنذِرَكُمۡۚ وَٱذۡكُرُوۤا۟ إِذۡ جَعَلَكُمۡ خُلَفَاۤءَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ قَوۡمِ نُوحࣲ وَزَادَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡخَلۡقِ بَصۜۡطَةࣰۖ فَٱذۡكُرُوۤا۟ ءَالَاۤءَ ٱللَّهِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُفۡلِحُونَ ۝٦٩

“Are you surprised that a man among you has been advised by your Rabb to warn you? Remember, think! He appointed you vicegerents after the people of Noah and increased you extensively in stature and provisions... Remember and evaluate the blessings of Allah so that you may be liberated.”

awaʿajib'tum an jāakum dhik'run min rabbikum ʿalā rajulin minkum liyundhirakum wa-udh'kurū idh jaʿalakum khulafāa min baʿdi qawmi nūḥin wazādakum fī l-khalqi baṣ'ṭatan fa-udh'kurū ālāa l-lahi laʿallakum tuf'liḥūn

قَالُوۤا۟ أَجِئۡتَنَا لِنَعۡبُدَ ٱللَّهَ وَحۡدَهُۥ وَنَذَرَ مَا كَانَ یَعۡبُدُ ءَابَاۤؤُنَا فَأۡتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَاۤ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِینَ ۝٧٠

They said, “Have you come to us so that we serve Allah, the ONE, and abandon what our fathers have worshipped? If you are speaking the truth, then bring us the thing with which you threaten us (so that we see it)!”

qālū aji'tanā linaʿbuda l-laha waḥdahu wanadhara mā kāna yaʿbudu ābāunā fatinā bimā taʿidunā in kunta mina l-ṣādiqīn

قَالَ قَدۡ وَقَعَ عَلَیۡكُم مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ رِجۡسࣱ وَغَضَبٌۖ أَتُجَـٰدِلُونَنِی فِیۤ أَسۡمَاۤءࣲ سَمَّیۡتُمُوهَاۤ أَنتُمۡ وَءَابَاۤؤُكُم مَّا نَزَّلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلۡطَـٰنࣲۚ فَٱنتَظِرُوۤا۟ إِنِّی مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡمُنتَظِرِینَ ۝٧١

(Hud) said, “In truth, the hurricane of your Rabb’s punishment and wrath (the state of duality) has already befallen you! Are you arguing with me about the unsubstantiated names you gave to the gods, you and your fathers, for which Allah has not revealed any evidence (in regards to their existence)? Then wait; indeed, I am with you among those who wait.”

qāla qad waqaʿa ʿalaykum min rabbikum rij'sun waghaḍabun atujādilūnanī fī asmāin sammaytumūhā antum waābāukum mā nazzala l-lahu bihā min sul'ṭānin fa-intaẓirū innī maʿakum mina l-muntaẓirīn

فَأَنجَیۡنَـٰهُ وَٱلَّذِینَ مَعَهُۥ بِرَحۡمَةࣲ مِّنَّا وَقَطَعۡنَا دَابِرَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَاۖ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٧٢

So we saved him and those with him by surrounding them with Our grace... And We uprooted those who denied our verses... They did not believe.

fa-anjaynāhu wa-alladhīna maʿahu biraḥmatin minnā waqaṭaʿnā dābira alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā wamā kānū mu'minīn

10 Salih and Lot

وَإِلَىٰ ثَمُودَ أَخَاهُمۡ صَـٰلِحࣰاۚ قَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَـٰهٍ غَیۡرُهُۥۖ قَدۡ جَاۤءَتۡكُم بَیِّنَةࣱ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡۖ هَـٰذِهِۦ نَاقَةُ ٱللَّهِ لَكُمۡ ءَایَةࣰۖ فَذَرُوهَا تَأۡكُلۡ فِیۤ أَرۡضِ ٱللَّهِۖ وَلَا تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوۤءࣲ فَیَأۡخُذَكُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝٧٣

And to Thamud (We sent) their brother Salih... He said, “O my people! Serve Allah... You cannot have a deity besides Allah... Clear evidence has come to you from your Rabb... This female camel of Allah is a miracle for you! So leave her to eat on Allah’s earth! Do not dare to ponder any harm upon her! Lest you fall into a painful punishment!”

wa-ilā thamūda akhāhum ṣāliḥan qāla yāqawmi uʿ'budū l-laha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruhu qad jāatkum bayyinatun min rabbikum hādhihi nāqatu l-lahi lakum āyatan fadharūhā takul fī arḍi l-lahi walā tamassūhā bisūin fayakhudhakum ʿadhābun alīmu

وَٱذۡكُرُوۤا۟ إِذۡ جَعَلَكُمۡ خُلَفَاۤءَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ عَادࣲ وَبَوَّأَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ تَتَّخِذُونَ مِن سُهُولِهَا قُصُورࣰا وَتَنۡحِتُونَ ٱلۡجِبَالَ بُیُوتࣰاۖ فَٱذۡكُرُوۤا۟ ءَالَاۤءَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا تَعۡثَوۡا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مُفۡسِدِینَ ۝٧٤

“And remember when He made you vicegerents after Aad and established you upon the earth... You obtain palaces from it and carve its mountains to form homes for yourselves! Then remember and think about these blessings of Allah and do not cause transgression on the earth through corruption.”

wa-udh'kurū idh jaʿalakum khulafāa min baʿdi ʿādin wabawwa-akum fī l-arḍi tattakhidhūna min suhūlihā quṣūran watanḥitūna l-jibāla buyūtan fa-udh'kurū ālāa l-lahi walā taʿthaw fī l-arḍi muf'sidīn

قَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ لِلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتُضۡعِفُوا۟ لِمَنۡ ءَامَنَ مِنۡهُمۡ أَتَعۡلَمُونَ أَنَّ صَـٰلِحࣰا مُّرۡسَلࣱ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦۚ قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّا بِمَاۤ أُرۡسِلَ بِهِۦ مُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٧٥

The leaders among the people (of Salih) who were arrogant said to the weaker believers among them, “Do you actually believe that Salih is disclosed by your Rabb?” They said, “We believe in what has been revealed through him (as though it has been revealed to us).”

qāla l-mala-u alladhīna is'takbarū min qawmihi lilladhīna us'tuḍ'ʿifū liman āmana min'hum ataʿlamūna anna ṣāliḥan mur'salun min rabbihi qālū innā bimā ur'sila bihi mu'minūn

قَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوۤا۟ إِنَّا بِٱلَّذِیۤ ءَامَنتُم بِهِۦ كَـٰفِرُونَ ۝٧٦

The conceited arrogant ones said, “Indeed we are deniers of that which you believe.”

qāla alladhīna is'takbarū innā bi-alladhī āmantum bihi kāfirūn

فَعَقَرُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةَ وَعَتَوۡا۟ عَنۡ أَمۡرِ رَبِّهِمۡ وَقَالُوا۟ یَـٰصَـٰلِحُ ٱئۡتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَاۤ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝٧٧

Then they savagely slaughtered the female camel and were disobedient to the command of their Rabb, and they said, “O Salih... If you are of the Rasuls, then bring the punishment with which you threaten us.”

faʿaqarū l-nāqata waʿataw ʿan amri rabbihim waqālū yāṣāliḥu i'tinā bimā taʿidunā in kunta mina l-mur'salīn

فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلرَّجۡفَةُ فَأَصۡبَحُوا۟ فِی دَارِهِمۡ جَـٰثِمِینَ ۝٧٨

A harsh earthquake seized them... They collapsed in their homes and died!

fa-akhadhathumu l-rajfatu fa-aṣbaḥū fī dārihim jāthimīn

فَتَوَلَّىٰ عَنۡهُمۡ وَقَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ لَقَدۡ أَبۡلَغۡتُكُمۡ رِسَالَةَ رَبِّی وَنَصَحۡتُ لَكُمۡ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُحِبُّونَ ٱلنَّـٰصِحِینَ ۝٧٩

And he (Salih) turned away from them and said, “O my people... Indeed I have conveyed to you the message of my Rabb and advised you, but you do not like those who talk in your favor.”

fatawallā ʿanhum waqāla yāqawmi laqad ablaghtukum risālata rabbī wanaṣaḥtu lakum walākin lā tuḥibbūna l-nāṣiḥīn

وَلُوطًا إِذۡ قَالَ لِقَوۡمِهِۦۤ أَتَأۡتُونَ ٱلۡفَـٰحِشَةَ مَا سَبَقَكُم بِهَا مِنۡ أَحَدࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٨٠

And remember when Lot said to his people, “Do you commit immoralities that no one before you in the world committed?”

walūṭan idh qāla liqawmihi atatūna l-fāḥishata mā sabaqakum bihā min aḥadin mina l-ʿālamīn

إِنَّكُمۡ لَتَأۡتُونَ ٱلرِّجَالَ شَهۡوَةࣰ مِّن دُونِ ٱلنِّسَاۤءِۚ بَلۡ أَنتُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ مُّسۡرِفُونَ ۝٨١

“You leave women and sleep with men! No, you are a transgressing people!”

innakum latatūna l-rijāla shahwatan min dūni l-nisāi bal antum qawmun mus'rifūn

وَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوۡمِهِۦۤ إِلَّاۤ أَن قَالُوۤا۟ أَخۡرِجُوهُم مِّن قَرۡیَتِكُمۡۖ إِنَّهُمۡ أُنَاسࣱ یَتَطَهَّرُونَ ۝٨٢

The answer of his people was only, “Evict them from your city... For they are men who are purified (from such things).”

wamā kāna jawāba qawmihi illā an qālū akhrijūhum min qaryatikum innahum unāsun yataṭahharūn

فَأَنجَیۡنَـٰهُ وَأَهۡلَهُۥۤ إِلَّا ٱمۡرَأَتَهُۥ كَانَتۡ مِنَ ٱلۡغَـٰبِرِینَ ۝٨٣

So We saved him and his people... except his wife! She stayed behind and was of those who were caved-in!

fa-anjaynāhu wa-ahlahu illā im'ra-atahu kānat mina l-ghābirīn

وَأَمۡطَرۡنَا عَلَیۡهِم مَّطَرࣰاۖ فَٱنظُرۡ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ ۝٨٤

We rained down upon them suffering (a volcanic eruption according to narration)! Have a look and see how these criminals ended up!

wa-amṭarnā ʿalayhim maṭaran fa-unẓur kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu l-muj'rimīn

11 Shu'aib

وَإِلَىٰ مَدۡیَنَ أَخَاهُمۡ شُعَیۡبࣰاۚ قَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَـٰهٍ غَیۡرُهُۥۖ قَدۡ جَاۤءَتۡكُم بَیِّنَةࣱ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡۖ فَأَوۡفُوا۟ ٱلۡكَیۡلَ وَٱلۡمِیزَانَ وَلَا تَبۡخَسُوا۟ ٱلنَّاسَ أَشۡیَاۤءَهُمۡ وَلَا تُفۡسِدُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ بَعۡدَ إِصۡلَـٰحِهَاۚ ذَ ٰلِكُمۡ خَیۡرࣱ لَّكُمۡ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٨٥

And We sent (disclosed) their brother Shuayb to Madyan. (He said): “O my people, serve Allah; you do not have a deity besides Allah... Clear evidence has come to you from your Rabb... So fulfill the measure and weight properly... Do not deprive people of their due... Do not cause corruption on the earth after its reformation... This is better for you, if you are believers.”

wa-ilā madyana akhāhum shuʿayban qāla yāqawmi uʿ'budū l-laha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruhu qad jāatkum bayyinatun min rabbikum fa-awfū l-kayla wal-mīzāna walā tabkhasū l-nāsa ashyāahum walā tuf'sidū fī l-arḍi baʿda iṣ'lāḥihā dhālikum khayrun lakum in kuntum mu'minīn

وَلَا تَقۡعُدُوا۟ بِكُلِّ صِرَ ٰطࣲ تُوعِدُونَ وَتَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ مَنۡ ءَامَنَ بِهِۦ وَتَبۡغُونَهَا عِوَجࣰاۚ وَٱذۡكُرُوۤا۟ إِذۡ كُنتُمۡ قَلِیلࣰا فَكَثَّرَكُمۡۖ وَٱنظُرُوا۟ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُفۡسِدِینَ ۝٨٦

“Do not intercept the path of people by threatening and preventing the believers from the way of Allah and wanting them to go astray! Have a think, you were few, He made you many... Have a look and see the end of the corrupters!”

walā taqʿudū bikulli ṣirāṭin tūʿidūna wataṣuddūna ʿan sabīli l-lahi man āmana bihi watabghūnahā ʿiwajan wa-udh'kurū idh kuntum qalīlan fakatharakum wa-unẓurū kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu l-muf'sidīn

وَإِن كَانَ طَاۤىِٕفَةࣱ مِّنكُمۡ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِٱلَّذِیۤ أُرۡسِلۡتُ بِهِۦ وَطَاۤىِٕفَةࣱ لَّمۡ یُؤۡمِنُوا۟ فَٱصۡبِرُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ یَحۡكُمَ ٱللَّهُ بَیۡنَنَاۚ وَهُوَ خَیۡرُ ٱلۡحَـٰكِمِینَ ۝٨٧

“And if among you there is a group who believes in the reality I have brought and a group who does not believe, then be patient until Allah judges between us... He is the best of judges.”

wa-in kāna ṭāifatun minkum āmanū bi-alladhī ur'sil'tu bihi waṭāifatun lam yu'minū fa-iṣ'birū ḥattā yaḥkuma l-lahu baynanā wahuwa khayru l-ḥākimīn

۞ قَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ لَنُخۡرِجَنَّكَ یَـٰشُعَیۡبُ وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَعَكَ مِن قَرۡیَتِنَاۤ أَوۡ لَتَعُودُنَّ فِی مِلَّتِنَاۚ قَالَ أَوَ لَوۡ كُنَّا كَـٰرِهِینَ ۝٨٨

The leaders among the people (of Shuayb) who were arrogant said, “O Shuayb! Surely we will evict you and those who are with you from our city, or you must turn to the religion of our fathers”... (Shuayb said) “Even if we are unwilling?”

qāla l-mala-u alladhīna is'takbarū min qawmihi lanukh'rijannaka yāshuʿaybu wa-alladhīna āmanū maʿaka min qaryatinā aw lataʿūdunna fī millatinā qāla awalaw kunnā kārihīn

قَدِ ٱفۡتَرَیۡنَا عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا إِنۡ عُدۡنَا فِی مِلَّتِكُم بَعۡدَ إِذۡ نَجَّىٰنَا ٱللَّهُ مِنۡهَاۚ وَمَا یَكُونُ لَنَاۤ أَن نَّعُودَ فِیهَاۤ إِلَّاۤ أَن یَشَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّنَاۚ وَسِعَ رَبُّنَا كُلَّ شَیۡءٍ عِلۡمًاۚ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوَكَّلۡنَاۚ رَبَّنَا ٱفۡتَحۡ بَیۡنَنَا وَبَیۡنَ قَوۡمِنَا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَأَنتَ خَیۡرُ ٱلۡفَـٰتِحِینَ ۝٨٩

“We would surely have invented a lie against Allah if we turned to your ancestral religion after Allah has saved us from that baseless religious view... It is not possible for us to turn to it! Unless our Rabb, Allah so wills... Our Rabb has encompassed all things with His knowledge... We have placed our trust in Allah (we believe the Name Wakil in our essence will fulfill its function) Our Rabb, join us and our people upon the Truth... You are the best conqueror!”

qadi if'taraynā ʿalā l-lahi kadhiban in ʿud'nā fī millatikum baʿda idh najjānā l-lahu min'hā wamā yakūnu lanā an naʿūda fīhā illā an yashāa l-lahu rabbunā wasiʿa rabbunā kulla shayin ʿil'man ʿalā l-lahi tawakkalnā rabbanā if'taḥ baynanā wabayna qawminā bil-ḥaqi wa-anta khayru l-fātiḥīn

وَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ لَىِٕنِ ٱتَّبَعۡتُمۡ شُعَیۡبًا إِنَّكُمۡ إِذࣰا لَّخَـٰسِرُونَ ۝٩٠

The leaders among his people who denied the knowledge of the reality said, “If you follow Shuayb, you will surely be among the losers.”

waqāla l-mala-u alladhīna kafarū min qawmihi la-ini ittabaʿtum shuʿayban innakum idhan lakhāsirūn

فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلرَّجۡفَةُ فَأَصۡبَحُوا۟ فِی دَارِهِمۡ جَـٰثِمِینَ ۝٩١

So the severe quake seized them... They were left fallen upon their knees in their homes.

fa-akhadhathumu l-rajfatu fa-aṣbaḥū fī dārihim jāthimīn

ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ شُعَیۡبࣰا كَأَن لَّمۡ یَغۡنَوۡا۟ فِیهَاۚ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ شُعَیۡبࣰا كَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرِینَ ۝٩٢

Those who denied Shuayb were (perished) as though they had never resided there... Those who denied Shuayb became the losers.

alladhīna kadhabū shuʿayban ka-an lam yaghnaw fīhā alladhīna kadhabū shuʿayban kānū humu l-khāsirīn

فَتَوَلَّىٰ عَنۡهُمۡ وَقَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ لَقَدۡ أَبۡلَغۡتُكُمۡ رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ رَبِّی وَنَصَحۡتُ لَكُمۡۖ فَكَیۡفَ ءَاسَىٰ عَلَىٰ قَوۡمࣲ كَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٩٣

(Upon this, Shuayb) turned away from them and said, “O my people! Indeed, I had conveyed the message of my Rabb to you... I had advised you... But how can I grieve for people who deny the knowledge of the reality?”

fatawallā ʿanhum waqāla yāqawmi laqad ablaghtukum risālāti rabbī wanaṣaḥtu lakum fakayfa āsā ʿalā qawmin kāfirīn

12 Makkans warned

وَمَاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَا فِی قَرۡیَةࣲ مِّن نَّبِیٍّ إِلَّاۤ أَخَذۡنَاۤ أَهۡلَهَا بِٱلۡبَأۡسَاۤءِ وَٱلضَّرَّاۤءِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَضَّرَّعُونَ ۝٩٤

And to whichever community We have revealed a Nabi We have surely seized its people with hardship and ailment (to rid them of their egocentricity) so they might turn (to their essential reality) with sincerity and humbleness.

wamā arsalnā fī qaryatin min nabiyyin illā akhadhnā ahlahā bil-basāi wal-ḍarāi laʿallahum yaḍḍarraʿūn

ثُمَّ بَدَّلۡنَا مَكَانَ ٱلسَّیِّئَةِ ٱلۡحَسَنَةَ حَتَّىٰ عَفَوا۟ وَّقَالُوا۟ قَدۡ مَسَّ ءَابَاۤءَنَا ٱلضَّرَّاۤءُ وَٱلسَّرَّاۤءُ فَأَخَذۡنَـٰهُم بَغۡتَةࣰ وَهُمۡ لَا یَشۡعُرُونَ ۝٩٥

Then We exchanged their hardship with good... When they reached comfort (of possessions and offspring) and prospered, they said, “Our fathers were also touched by hardship and ease (so there is no lesson in this for us).” So We seized them suddenly before they knew it!

thumma baddalnā makāna l-sayi-ati l-ḥasanata ḥattā ʿafaw waqālū qad massa ābāanā l-ḍarāu wal-sarāu fa-akhadhnāhum baghtatan wahum lā yashʿurūn

وَلَوۡ أَنَّ أَهۡلَ ٱلۡقُرَىٰۤ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَٱتَّقَوۡا۟ لَفَتَحۡنَا عَلَیۡهِم بَرَكَـٰتࣲ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَـٰكِن كَذَّبُوا۟ فَأَخَذۡنَـٰهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡسِبُونَ ۝٩٦

If the people of those cities had believed and protected themselves, We would surely have opened blessings upon them from the heaven and the earth... But they denied! So We seized them with what they earned with their deeds!

walaw anna ahla l-qurā āmanū wa-ittaqaw lafataḥnā ʿalayhim barakātin mina l-samāi wal-arḍi walākin kadhabū fa-akhadhnāhum bimā kānū yaksibūn

أَفَأَمِنَ أَهۡلُ ٱلۡقُرَىٰۤ أَن یَأۡتِیَهُم بَأۡسُنَا بَیَـٰتࣰا وَهُمۡ نَاۤىِٕمُونَ ۝٩٧

Did the people of those cities feel secure from Our wrath coming to them one night while they were asleep?

afa-amina ahlu l-qurā an yatiyahum basunā bayātan wahum nāimūn

أَوَ أَمِنَ أَهۡلُ ٱلۡقُرَىٰۤ أَن یَأۡتِیَهُم بَأۡسُنَا ضُحࣰى وَهُمۡ یَلۡعَبُونَ ۝٩٨

Or did the people of those cities feel secure from Our wrath coming to them in the morning while they were at play?

awa-amina ahlu l-qurā an yatiyahum basunā ḍuḥan wahum yalʿabūn

أَفَأَمِنُوا۟ مَكۡرَ ٱللَّهِۚ فَلَا یَأۡمَنُ مَكۡرَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلۡقَوۡمُ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرُونَ ۝٩٩

(Or) were they secure from the plan of Allah (that Allah will make them live the consequences of their deeds without them even realizing, and hence, thinking there is no consequence, they will continue to engage in their activities and sink further in failure)! None can feel secure from the plan of Allah but the people who are in loss.

afa-aminū makra l-lahi falā yamanu makra l-lahi illā l-qawmu l-khāsirūn

13 Moses sent to Pharaoh

أَوَ لَمۡ یَهۡدِ لِلَّذِینَ یَرِثُونَ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ أَهۡلِهَاۤ أَن لَّوۡ نَشَاۤءُ أَصَبۡنَـٰهُم بِذُنُوبِهِمۡۚ وَنَطۡبَعُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ فَهُمۡ لَا یَسۡمَعُونَ ۝١٠٠

Have they, the inheritors of those who were destroyed, have (still) not realized the truth that if We will We could afflict them with calamities and lock their hearts (consciousness) so they will not be able to perceive!

awalam yahdi lilladhīna yarithūna l-arḍa min baʿdi ahlihā an law nashāu aṣabnāhum bidhunūbihim wanaṭbaʿu ʿalā qulūbihim fahum lā yasmaʿūn

تِلۡكَ ٱلۡقُرَىٰ نَقُصُّ عَلَیۡكَ مِنۡ أَنۢبَاۤىِٕهَاۚ وَلَقَدۡ جَاۤءَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتِ فَمَا كَانُوا۟ لِیُؤۡمِنُوا۟ بِمَا كَذَّبُوا۟ مِن قَبۡلُۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ یَطۡبَعُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝١٠١

So We successively relate to you the news of the dwellers of those places... Indeed, the Rasuls had surely come as clear proofs... (But) they did not believe (in light of the letter B) in what they previously denied (religion)... Thus Allah seals the hearts (locks the consciousness) of those who deny the knowledge of the reality.

til'ka l-qurā naquṣṣu ʿalayka min anbāihā walaqad jāathum rusuluhum bil-bayināti famā kānū liyu'minū bimā kadhabū min qablu kadhālika yaṭbaʿu l-lahu ʿalā qulūbi l-kāfirīn

وَمَا وَجَدۡنَا لِأَكۡثَرِهِم مِّنۡ عَهۡدࣲۖ وَإِن وَجَدۡنَاۤ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَفَـٰسِقِینَ ۝١٠٢

And We did not find most of them devoted to their promise... We found the majority of them disobedient to the Truth.

wamā wajadnā li-aktharihim min ʿahdin wa-in wajadnā aktharahum lafāsiqīn

ثُمَّ بَعَثۡنَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِم مُّوسَىٰ بِءَایَـٰتِنَاۤ إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَمَلَإِی۟هِۦ فَظَلَمُوا۟ بِهَاۖ فَٱنظُرۡ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُفۡسِدِینَ ۝١٠٣

Then, after them, We disclosed Moses with Our proofs (manifestations of Names) to the Pharaoh and the leaders around him... But they did wrong (by not heeding the signs)... Look and see the end of the corrupters!

thumma baʿathnā min baʿdihim mūsā biāyātinā ilā fir'ʿawna wamala-ihi faẓalamū bihā fa-unẓur kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu l-muf'sidīn

وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰ یَـٰفِرۡعَوۡنُ إِنِّی رَسُولࣱ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝١٠٤

Moses said, “O Pharaoh! Indeed, I am a Rasul from the Rabb of the worlds.”

waqāla mūsā yāfir'ʿawnu innī rasūlun min rabbi l-ʿālamīn

حَقِیقٌ عَلَىٰۤ أَن لَّاۤ أَقُولَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلۡحَقَّۚ قَدۡ جِئۡتُكُم بِبَیِّنَةࣲ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ فَأَرۡسِلۡ مَعِیَ بَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ ۝١٠٥

“I am truly obligated to not speak about Allah except what is based on the Truth... I have indeed come to you as a clear sign from your Rabb... So, send the Children of Israel with me!”

ḥaqīqun ʿalā an lā aqūla ʿalā l-lahi illā l-ḥaqa qad ji'tukum bibayyinatin min rabbikum fa-arsil maʿiya banī is'rāīl

قَالَ إِن كُنتَ جِئۡتَ بِءَایَةࣲ فَأۡتِ بِهَاۤ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِینَ ۝١٠٦

(The Pharaoh said): “If you have come with a miracle, then bring it forth, if you are true to your word!”

qāla in kunta ji'ta biāyatin fati bihā in kunta mina l-ṣādiqīn

فَأَلۡقَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِیَ ثُعۡبَانࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝١٠٧

(Upon this) Moses released his staff, and suddenly the staff appeared as a serpent!

fa-alqā ʿaṣāhu fa-idhā hiya thuʿ'bānun mubīnu

وَنَزَعَ یَدَهُۥ فَإِذَا هِیَ بَیۡضَاۤءُ لِلنَّـٰظِرِینَ ۝١٠٨

And (Moses) drew out his hand, and suddenly (his hand) appeared as a bright white light!

wanazaʿa yadahu fa-idhā hiya bayḍāu lilnnāẓirīn

14 Pharaoh summons Enchanters

قَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ مِن قَوۡمِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَسَـٰحِرٌ عَلِیمࣱ ۝١٠٩

The eminent ones (priests) among the people of Pharaoh said, “Indeed, this is a learned magician”...

qāla l-mala-u min qawmi fir'ʿawna inna hādhā lasāḥirun ʿalīmu

یُرِیدُ أَن یُخۡرِجَكُم مِّنۡ أَرۡضِكُمۡۖ فَمَاذَا تَأۡمُرُونَ ۝١١٠

“He wants to expel you from your land (status)”... (The Pharaoh asked) “What do you advise?”

yurīdu an yukh'rijakum min arḍikum famādhā tamurūn

قَالُوۤا۟ أَرۡجِهۡ وَأَخَاهُ وَأَرۡسِلۡ فِی ٱلۡمَدَاۤىِٕنِ حَـٰشِرِینَ ۝١١١

They said, “Restrain him and his brother... Send heralds to the cities.”

qālū arjih wa-akhāhu wa-arsil fī l-madāini ḥāshirīn

یَأۡتُوكَ بِكُلِّ سَـٰحِرٍ عَلِیمࣲ ۝١١٢

“Let them bring to you every learned magician.”

yatūka bikulli sāḥirin ʿalīmi

وَجَاۤءَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ فِرۡعَوۡنَ قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّ لَنَا لَأَجۡرًا إِن كُنَّا نَحۡنُ ٱلۡغَـٰلِبِینَ ۝١١٣

And the magicians came to Pharaoh... They said, “If we prevail, there will indeed be a prize for us, will there not?”

wajāa l-saḥaratu fir'ʿawna qālū inna lanā la-ajran in kunnā naḥnu l-ghālibīn

قَالَ نَعَمۡ وَإِنَّكُمۡ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبِینَ ۝١١٤

(The Pharaoh said) “Yes”... “Indeed, you are going to be of the close ones to me.”

qāla naʿam wa-innakum lamina l-muqarabīn

قَالُوا۟ یَـٰمُوسَىٰۤ إِمَّاۤ أَن تُلۡقِیَ وَإِمَّاۤ أَن نَّكُونَ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُلۡقِینَ ۝١١٥

(The magicians said) “O Moses... First you throw, then we will throw.”

qālū yāmūsā immā an tul'qiya wa-immā an nakūna naḥnu l-mul'qīn

قَالَ أَلۡقُوا۟ۖ فَلَمَّاۤ أَلۡقَوۡا۟ سَحَرُوۤا۟ أَعۡیُنَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَٱسۡتَرۡهَبُوهُمۡ وَجَاۤءُو بِسِحۡرٍ عَظِیمࣲ ۝١١٦

(Moses said) “You throw”... When they (the magicians) threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them! They performed a great magic.

qāla alqū falammā alqaw saḥarū aʿyuna l-nāsi wa-is'tarhabūhum wajāū bisiḥ'rin ʿaẓīmi

۞ وَأَوۡحَیۡنَاۤ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰۤ أَنۡ أَلۡقِ عَصَاكَۖ فَإِذَا هِیَ تَلۡقَفُ مَا یَأۡفِكُونَ ۝١١٧

And We inspired to Moses, “Throw your staff”... And alas, it devoured their make-believe falsehood!

wa-awḥaynā ilā mūsā an alqi ʿaṣāka fa-idhā hiya talqafu mā yafikūn

فَوَقَعَ ٱلۡحَقُّ وَبَطَلَ مَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١١٨

Thus the Truth was established and what they were doing was abolished.

fawaqaʿa l-ḥaqu wabaṭala mā kānū yaʿmalūn

فَغُلِبُوا۟ هُنَالِكَ وَٱنقَلَبُوا۟ صَـٰغِرِینَ ۝١١٩

They were overcome... They were debased!

faghulibū hunālika wa-inqalabū ṣāghirīn

وَأُلۡقِیَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ سَـٰجِدِینَ ۝١٢٠

The magicians fell down as though in prostration!

wa-ul'qiya l-saḥaratu sājidīn

قَالُوۤا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِرَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝١٢١

They said, “We have believed in the Rabb of the worlds...”

qālū āmannā birabbi l-ʿālamīn

رَبِّ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ ۝١٢٢

“The Rabb of Moses and Aaron!”

rabbi mūsā wahārūn

قَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ ءَامَنتُم بِهِۦ قَبۡلَ أَنۡ ءَاذَنَ لَكُمۡۖ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَمَكۡرࣱ مَّكَرۡتُمُوهُ فِی ٱلۡمَدِینَةِ لِتُخۡرِجُوا۟ مِنۡهَاۤ أَهۡلَهَاۖ فَسَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝١٢٣

Pharaoh said, “Have you believed in Him without my permission? Surely this is a plot, which you devised and conspired, to drive the people out of the city... But you will soon see (the punishment)”

qāla fir'ʿawnu āmantum bihi qabla an ādhana lakum inna hādhā lamakrun makartumūhu fī l-madīnati litukh'rijū min'hā ahlahā fasawfa taʿlamūn

لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَیۡدِیَكُمۡ وَأَرۡجُلَكُم مِّنۡ خِلَـٰفࣲ ثُمَّ لَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمۡ أَجۡمَعِینَ ۝١٢٤

“I will indeed cut your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all.”

la-uqaṭṭiʿanna aydiyakum wa-arjulakum min khilāfin thumma la-uṣallibannakum ajmaʿīn

قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّاۤ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا مُنقَلِبُونَ ۝١٢٥

(The magicians who had believed said) “Indeed, we will return to our Rabb.”

qālū innā ilā rabbinā munqalibūn

وَمَا تَنقِمُ مِنَّاۤ إِلَّاۤ أَنۡ ءَامَنَّا بِءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّنَا لَمَّا جَاۤءَتۡنَاۚ رَبَّنَاۤ أَفۡرِغۡ عَلَیۡنَا صَبۡرࣰا وَتَوَفَّنَا مُسۡلِمِینَ ۝١٢٦

“You are avenging us because we believed in the existence of our Rabb in His miracles (manifestations of His Names)... Our Rabb, give us the strength to persevere and let us die as those who have submitted to You.”

wamā tanqimu minnā illā an āmannā biāyāti rabbinā lammā jāatnā rabbanā afrigh ʿalaynā ṣabran watawaffanā mus'limīn

15 Israelites' Persecution

وَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ مِن قَوۡمِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ أَتَذَرُ مُوسَىٰ وَقَوۡمَهُۥ لِیُفۡسِدُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَیَذَرَكَ وَءَالِهَتَكَۚ قَالَ سَنُقَتِّلُ أَبۡنَاۤءَهُمۡ وَنَسۡتَحۡیِۦ نِسَاۤءَهُمۡ وَإِنَّا فَوۡقَهُمۡ قَـٰهِرُونَ ۝١٢٧

The leaders among the people of Pharaoh said, “Will you leave Moses and his people so they cause corruption on the earth and abandon you and your gods?” (Pharaoh said) “We will kill their sons and keep their women alive... A devastating power we have over them.”

waqāla l-mala-u min qawmi fir'ʿawna atadharu mūsā waqawmahu liyuf'sidū fī l-arḍi wayadharaka waālihataka qāla sanuqattilu abnāahum wanastaḥyī nisāahum wa-innā fawqahum qāhirūn

قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوۡمِهِ ٱسۡتَعِینُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱصۡبِرُوۤا۟ۖ إِنَّ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ لِلَّهِ یُورِثُهَا مَن یَشَاۤءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِهِۦۖ وَٱلۡعَـٰقِبَةُ لِلۡمُتَّقِینَ ۝١٢٨

Moses said to his people, “Seek help from Allah (the continual manifestation of the Names of Allah from your essence due to His Uluhiyyah; from the forces of the Names comprising your being) and have patience... Indeed, the earth belongs to Allah... He renders inheritors whom He wills among His servants... The future is for the protected ones!

qāla mūsā liqawmihi is'taʿīnū bil-lahi wa-iṣ'birū inna l-arḍa lillahi yūrithuhā man yashāu min ʿibādihi wal-ʿāqibatu lil'muttaqīn

قَالُوۤا۟ أُوذِینَا مِن قَبۡلِ أَن تَأۡتِیَنَا وَمِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا جِئۡتَنَاۚ قَالَ عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمۡ أَن یُهۡلِكَ عَدُوَّكُمۡ وَیَسۡتَخۡلِفَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَیَنظُرَ كَیۡفَ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٢٩

(The people of Moses said) “We have been tortured before you came to us and after you have come to us”... (Moses said) “Perhaps your Rabb will destroy your enemy and appoint you vicegerents on earth (in their stead) and see how you will do.”

qālū ūdhīnā min qabli an tatiyanā wamin baʿdi mā ji'tanā qāla ʿasā rabbukum an yuh'lika ʿaduwwakum wayastakhlifakum fī l-arḍi fayanẓura kayfa taʿmalūn

16 Moses shows Signs

وَلَقَدۡ أَخَذۡنَاۤ ءَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ بِٱلسِّنِینَ وَنَقۡصࣲ مِّنَ ٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَذَّكَّرُونَ ۝١٣٠

We have certainly seized the people of Pharaoh with years of famine and deficiency in produce that perhaps they would reflect on its reason.

walaqad akhadhnā āla fir'ʿawna bil-sinīna wanaqṣin mina l-thamarāti laʿallahum yadhakkarūn

فَإِذَا جَاۤءَتۡهُمُ ٱلۡحَسَنَةُ قَالُوا۟ لَنَا هَـٰذِهِۦۖ وَإِن تُصِبۡهُمۡ سَیِّئَةࣱ یَطَّیَّرُوا۟ بِمُوسَىٰ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥۤۗ أَلَاۤ إِنَّمَا طَـٰۤىِٕرُهُمۡ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝١٣١

But when a good came to them they said, “This is our earning”... And when a bad came to them they saw it as an ill omen of Moses and those with him... Be careful, what they take as an ill omen is with Allah alone... But most of them cannot comprehend this!

fa-idhā jāathumu l-ḥasanatu qālū lanā hādhihi wa-in tuṣib'hum sayyi-atun yaṭṭayyarū bimūsā waman maʿahu alā innamā ṭāiruhum ʿinda l-lahi walākinna aktharahum lā yaʿlamūn

وَقَالُوا۟ مَهۡمَا تَأۡتِنَا بِهِۦ مِنۡ ءَایَةࣲ لِّتَسۡحَرَنَا بِهَا فَمَا نَحۡنُ لَكَ بِمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١٣٢

And they said, “No matter what miracle you bring to bewitch us, we will not believe in you!”

waqālū mahmā tatinā bihi min āyatin litasḥaranā bihā famā naḥnu laka bimu'minīn

فَأَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلطُّوفَانَ وَٱلۡجَرَادَ وَٱلۡقُمَّلَ وَٱلضَّفَادِعَ وَٱلدَّمَ ءَایَـٰتࣲ مُّفَصَّلَـٰتࣲ فَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ قَوۡمࣰا مُّجۡرِمِینَ ۝١٣٣

So We sent upon them floods, locusts, lice, frogs and blood, as indicative signs! Yet they were arrogant and became a guilty community.

fa-arsalnā ʿalayhimu l-ṭūfāna wal-jarāda wal-qumala wal-ḍafādiʿa wal-dama āyātin mufaṣṣalātin fa-is'takbarū wakānū qawman muj'rimīn

وَلَمَّا وَقَعَ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلرِّجۡزُ قَالُوا۟ یَـٰمُوسَى ٱدۡعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا عَهِدَ عِندَكَۖ لَىِٕن كَشَفۡتَ عَنَّا ٱلرِّجۡزَ لَنُؤۡمِنَنَّ لَكَ وَلَنُرۡسِلَنَّ مَعَكَ بَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ ۝١٣٤

When suffering befell them, they said, “O Moses! Keep your word and pray to your Rabb... If you remove this suffering from us we will surely believe in you and we will send the Children of Israel with you.”

walammā waqaʿa ʿalayhimu l-rij'zu qālū yāmūsā ud'ʿu lanā rabbaka bimā ʿahida ʿindaka la-in kashafta ʿannā l-rij'za lanu'minanna laka walanur'silanna maʿaka banī is'rāīl

فَلَمَّا كَشَفۡنَا عَنۡهُمُ ٱلرِّجۡزَ إِلَىٰۤ أَجَلٍ هُم بَـٰلِغُوهُ إِذَا هُمۡ یَنكُثُونَ ۝١٣٥

But when We remove the suffering from them, until the specified term We have given them comes to an end, they will break their word at once!

falammā kashafnā ʿanhumu l-rij'za ilā ajalin hum bālighūhu idhā hum yankuthūn

فَٱنتَقَمۡنَا مِنۡهُمۡ فَأَغۡرَقۡنَـٰهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡیَمِّ بِأَنَّهُمۡ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا وَكَانُوا۟ عَنۡهَا غَـٰفِلِینَ ۝١٣٦

Hence We have vehemently made them live the consequences of their deeds, and We drowned them in the sea for denying Our miracles and signs and for being heedless of them!

fa-intaqamnā min'hum fa-aghraqnāhum fī l-yami bi-annahum kadhabū biāyātinā wakānū ʿanhā ghāfilīn

وَأَوۡرَثۡنَا ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَانُوا۟ یُسۡتَضۡعَفُونَ مَشَـٰرِقَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَغَـٰرِبَهَا ٱلَّتِی بَـٰرَكۡنَا فِیهَاۖ وَتَمَّتۡ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ عَلَىٰ بَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ بِمَا صَبَرُوا۟ۖ وَدَمَّرۡنَا مَا كَانَ یَصۡنَعُ فِرۡعَوۡنُ وَقَوۡمُهُۥ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡرِشُونَ ۝١٣٧

The people who had been scorned and oppressed, We made them the inheritors of the land, which We blessed with abundance, in the east and the west... The good word of your Rabb was fulfilled for the Children of Israel because of their patience. And We destroyed the things Pharaoh and his people were producing and what they were building!

wa-awrathnā l-qawma alladhīna kānū yus'taḍʿafūna mashāriqa l-arḍi wamaghāribahā allatī bāraknā fīhā watammat kalimatu rabbika l-ḥus'nā ʿalā banī is'rāīla bimā ṣabarū wadammarnā mā kāna yaṣnaʿu fir'ʿawnu waqawmuhu wamā kānū yaʿrishūn

وَجَـٰوَزۡنَا بِبَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَ فَأَتَوۡا۟ عَلَىٰ قَوۡمࣲ یَعۡكُفُونَ عَلَىٰۤ أَصۡنَامࣲ لَّهُمۡۚ قَالُوا۟ یَـٰمُوسَى ٱجۡعَل لَّنَاۤ إِلَـٰهࣰا كَمَا لَهُمۡ ءَالِهَةࣱۚ قَالَ إِنَّكُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ تَجۡهَلُونَ ۝١٣٨

We took the Children of Israel across the sea... They came upon a community of people who were worshipping their idols. They said, “O Moses... Make a god for us just like the gods they have” (Moses said) “Indeed, you are so ignorant!”

wajāwaznā bibanī is'rāīla l-baḥra fa-ataw ʿalā qawmin yaʿkufūna ʿalā aṣnāmin lahum qālū yāmūsā ij'ʿal lanā ilāhan kamā lahum ālihatun qāla innakum qawmun tajhalūn

إِنَّ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ مُتَبَّرࣱ مَّا هُمۡ فِیهِ وَبَـٰطِلࣱ مَّا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٣٩

“Surely their faith and application will bring about destruction! What they are engaging in is worthless/vain.”

inna hāulāi mutabbarun mā hum fīhi wabāṭilun mā kānū yaʿmalūn

قَالَ أَغَیۡرَ ٱللَّهِ أَبۡغِیكُمۡ إِلَـٰهࣰا وَهُوَ فَضَّلَكُمۡ عَلَى ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝١٤٠

“When he has chosen you (by informing you of the reality of vicegerency) over the worlds (mankind), shall I assume a god for you besides Allah?”

qāla aghayra l-lahi abghīkum ilāhan wahuwa faḍḍalakum ʿalā l-ʿālamīn

وَإِذۡ أَنجَیۡنَـٰكُم مِّنۡ ءَالِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ یَسُومُونَكُمۡ سُوۤءَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ یُقَتِّلُونَ أَبۡنَاۤءَكُمۡ وَیَسۡتَحۡیُونَ نِسَاۤءَكُمۡۚ وَفِی ذَ ٰلِكُم بَلَاۤءࣱ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ عَظِیمࣱ ۝١٤١

And (remember) We had saved you from the dynasty of the Pharaoh... (Remember how) they were afflicting you with the worst torment; they were killing your sons and keeping your women alive... And in that there was a great trial for you from your Rabb.

wa-idh anjaynākum min āli fir'ʿawna yasūmūnakum sūa l-ʿadhābi yuqattilūna abnāakum wayastaḥyūna nisāakum wafī dhālikum balāon min rabbikum ʿaẓīmu

17 Moses receives Law

۞ وَوَ ٰعَدۡنَا مُوسَىٰ ثَلَـٰثِینَ لَیۡلَةࣰ وَأَتۡمَمۡنَـٰهَا بِعَشۡرࣲ فَتَمَّ مِیقَـٰتُ رَبِّهِۦۤ أَرۡبَعِینَ لَیۡلَةࣰۚ وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِأَخِیهِ هَـٰرُونَ ٱخۡلُفۡنِی فِی قَوۡمِی وَأَصۡلِحۡ وَلَا تَتَّبِعۡ سَبِیلَ ٱلۡمُفۡسِدِینَ ۝١٤٢

We pledged thirty nights to Moses... Then We added ten to it; thus the time appointed by his Rabb was completed to forty nights... Moses said to his brother Aaron, “Take my place among my people, reform, and do not follow those who want to incite provocation!”

wawāʿadnā mūsā thalāthīna laylatan wa-atmamnāhā biʿashrin fatamma mīqātu rabbihi arbaʿīna laylatan waqāla mūsā li-akhīhi hārūna ukh'luf'nī fī qawmī wa-aṣliḥ walā tattabiʿ sabīla l-muf'sidīn

وَلَمَّا جَاۤءَ مُوسَىٰ لِمِیقَـٰتِنَا وَكَلَّمَهُۥ رَبُّهُۥ قَالَ رَبِّ أَرِنِیۤ أَنظُرۡ إِلَیۡكَۚ قَالَ لَن تَرَىٰنِی وَلَـٰكِنِ ٱنظُرۡ إِلَى ٱلۡجَبَلِ فَإِنِ ٱسۡتَقَرَّ مَكَانَهُۥ فَسَوۡفَ تَرَىٰنِیۚ فَلَمَّا تَجَلَّىٰ رَبُّهُۥ لِلۡجَبَلِ جَعَلَهُۥ دَكࣰّا وَخَرَّ مُوسَىٰ صَعِقࣰاۚ فَلَمَّاۤ أَفَاقَ قَالَ سُبۡحَـٰنَكَ تُبۡتُ إِلَیۡكَ وَأَنَا۠ أَوَّلُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١٤٣

When the period We appointed was complete, and his Rabb called out to him, (Moses) said to his Rabb, “My Rabb, show me Yourself, let me look at You!”... (His Rabb said) “Never can ‘you’ (with your illusory self – ego) see (comprehend) ‘Me’... (Absolute Reality, Absolute ‘I’)... But look at the mountain (ego)... If the mountain remains in place after I reflect Myself, then you shall see Me!” When his Rabb reflected on the mountain (ego), He destroyed it... and Moses fell unconscious (freed from his self, I’ness, ego)! When he woke up, he said, “Subhan, You are (I exalt you)! I have repented to You... I am the first of the believers.”

walammā jāa mūsā limīqātinā wakallamahu rabbuhu qāla rabbi arinī anẓur ilayka qāla lan tarānī walākini unẓur ilā l-jabali fa-ini is'taqarra makānahu fasawfa tarānī falammā tajallā rabbuhu lil'jabali jaʿalahu dakkan wakharra mūsā ṣaʿiqan falammā afāqa qāla sub'ḥānaka tub'tu ilayka wa-anā awwalu l-mu'minīn

قَالَ یَـٰمُوسَىٰۤ إِنِّی ٱصۡطَفَیۡتُكَ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ بِرِسَـٰلَـٰتِی وَبِكَلَـٰمِی فَخُذۡ مَاۤ ءَاتَیۡتُكَ وَكُن مِّنَ ٱلشَّـٰكِرِینَ ۝١٤٤

He said, “O Moses! Indeed, I have chosen you over the people with My messages and My words... So, take what I have given you and be among the grateful (those who benefit)!”

qāla yāmūsā innī iṣ'ṭafaytuka ʿalā l-nāsi birisālātī wabikalāmī fakhudh mā ātaytuka wakun mina l-shākirīn

وَكَتَبۡنَا لَهُۥ فِی ٱلۡأَلۡوَاحِ مِن كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ مَّوۡعِظَةࣰ وَتَفۡصِیلࣰا لِّكُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ فَخُذۡهَا بِقُوَّةࣲ وَأۡمُرۡ قَوۡمَكَ یَأۡخُذُوا۟ بِأَحۡسَنِهَاۚ سَأُو۟رِیكُمۡ دَارَ ٱلۡفَـٰسِقِینَ ۝١٤٥

We wrote in detail for Moses on the tablets, about the things from which they should refrain, and the things they require for life... “Hold these firmly and order your people to properly apply and preserve them... I will show you the home of those who are disobedient (to these commands).”

wakatabnā lahu fī l-alwāḥi min kulli shayin mawʿiẓatan watafṣīlan likulli shayin fakhudh'hā biquwwatin wamur qawmaka yakhudhū bi-aḥsanihā sa-urīkum dāra l-fāsiqīn

سَأَصۡرِفُ عَنۡ ءَایَـٰتِیَ ٱلَّذِینَ یَتَكَبَّرُونَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ بِغَیۡرِ ٱلۡحَقِّ وَإِن یَرَوۡا۟ كُلَّ ءَایَةࣲ لَّا یُؤۡمِنُوا۟ بِهَا وَإِن یَرَوۡا۟ سَبِیلَ ٱلرُّشۡدِ لَا یَتَّخِذُوهُ سَبِیلࣰا وَإِن یَرَوۡا۟ سَبِیلَ ٱلۡغَیِّ یَتَّخِذُوهُ سَبِیلࣰاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا وَكَانُوا۟ عَنۡهَا غَـٰفِلِینَ ۝١٤٦

I will hold away from my miraculous forces those who are arrogant on the earth without right, for whatever miracle they see, they will not believe! If they see the way of consciousness, they will not adopt it as a way... If they see the way of corruption, they will adopt it as a way... This is because they have denied Our signs (of the reality) and were heedless of them.

sa-aṣrifu ʿan āyātiya alladhīna yatakabbarūna fī l-arḍi bighayri l-ḥaqi wa-in yaraw kulla āyatin lā yu'minū bihā wa-in yaraw sabīla l-rush'di lā yattakhidhūhu sabīlan wa-in yaraw sabīla l-ghayi yattakhidhūhu sabīlan dhālika bi-annahum kadhabū biāyātinā wakānū ʿanhā ghāfilīn

وَٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا وَلِقَاۤءِ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ حَبِطَتۡ أَعۡمَـٰلُهُمۡۚ هَلۡ یُجۡزَوۡنَ إِلَّا مَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٤٧

Those who have denied our signs (of the reality) and the meeting of the eternal life to come, their deeds have become vain... Are they not living solely the results of what they used to do?

wa-alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā waliqāi l-ākhirati ḥabiṭat aʿmāluhum hal yuj'zawna illā mā kānū yaʿmalūn

18 Israelites worship a calf

وَٱتَّخَذَ قَوۡمُ مُوسَىٰ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦ مِنۡ حُلِیِّهِمۡ عِجۡلࣰا جَسَدࣰا لَّهُۥ خُوَارٌۚ أَلَمۡ یَرَوۡا۟ أَنَّهُۥ لَا یُكَلِّمُهُمۡ وَلَا یَهۡدِیهِمۡ سَبِیلًاۘ ٱتَّخَذُوهُ وَكَانُوا۟ ظَـٰلِمِینَ ۝١٤٨

And the people of Moses made, after him (after his departure to Mount Sinai) a bellowing calf, from their valuable ornaments... Did they not realize that the calf was neither able to talk to them, nor guide them to a path? They took it (as a deity) and became of the wrongdoers (they wronged themselves)!

wa-ittakhadha qawmu mūsā min baʿdihi min ḥuliyyihim ʿij'lan jasadan lahu khuwārun alam yaraw annahu lā yukallimuhum walā yahdīhim sabīlan ittakhadhūhu wakānū ẓālimīn

وَلَمَّا سُقِطَ فِیۤ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ وَرَأَوۡا۟ أَنَّهُمۡ قَدۡ ضَلُّوا۟ قَالُوا۟ لَىِٕن لَّمۡ یَرۡحَمۡنَا رَبُّنَا وَیَغۡفِرۡ لَنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرِینَ ۝١٤٩

When they thought about (what they were doing) and realized they had gone astray from the reality, they felt regret and said, “If our Rabb does not bestow His grace upon us and forgive us, surely we will be among the losers.”

walammā suqiṭa fī aydīhim wara-aw annahum qad ḍallū qālū la-in lam yarḥamnā rabbunā wayaghfir lanā lanakūnanna mina l-khāsirīn

وَلَمَّا رَجَعَ مُوسَىٰۤ إِلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦ غَضۡبَـٰنَ أَسِفࣰا قَالَ بِئۡسَمَا خَلَفۡتُمُونِی مِنۢ بَعۡدِیۤۖ أَعَجِلۡتُمۡ أَمۡرَ رَبِّكُمۡۖ وَأَلۡقَى ٱلۡأَلۡوَاحَ وَأَخَذَ بِرَأۡسِ أَخِیهِ یَجُرُّهُۥۤ إِلَیۡهِۚ قَالَ ٱبۡنَ أُمَّ إِنَّ ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱسۡتَضۡعَفُونِی وَكَادُوا۟ یَقۡتُلُونَنِی فَلَا تُشۡمِتۡ بِیَ ٱلۡأَعۡدَاۤءَ وَلَا تَجۡعَلۡنِی مَعَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝١٥٠

When Moses came back to his people, angry and grieved, he said, “What wretched things you did behind my back! Could you not have waited for the command of your Rabb?” Then he put down the tablets and held his brother by his head and pulled him toward himself... (Aaron said) “O son of my mother! Indeed, the people reckoned me weak and powerless and were nearly going to kill me... So, do not let the enemy rejoice and do not hold me equal with these wrongdoers!”

walammā rajaʿa mūsā ilā qawmihi ghaḍbāna asifan qāla bi'samā khalaftumūnī min baʿdī aʿajil'tum amra rabbikum wa-alqā l-alwāḥa wa-akhadha birasi akhīhi yajurruhu ilayhi qāla ib'na umma inna l-qawma is'taḍʿafūnī wakādū yaqtulūnanī falā tush'mit biya l-aʿdāa walā tajʿalnī maʿa l-qawmi l-ẓālimīn

قَالَ رَبِّ ٱغۡفِرۡ لِی وَلِأَخِی وَأَدۡخِلۡنَا فِی رَحۡمَتِكَۖ وَأَنتَ أَرۡحَمُ ٱلرَّ ٰحِمِینَ ۝١٥١

(Moses said) “My Rabb... Forgive me and my brother and include us into Your grace... You are the most Rahim of the Rahim (the One who manifests the infinite qualities of Your Names with Your grace).”

qāla rabbi igh'fir lī wali-akhī wa-adkhil'nā fī raḥmatika wa-anta arḥamu l-rāḥimīn

19 Torah and the Prophet's Advent

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ ٱلۡعِجۡلَ سَیَنَالُهُمۡ غَضَبࣱ مِّن رَّبِّهِمۡ وَذِلَّةࣱ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَاۚ وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُفۡتَرِینَ ۝١٥٢

Indeed, those who took the calf (as god) will receive the wrath of their Rabb and debasement in the worldly life... Thus We recompense the slanderers.

inna alladhīna ittakhadhū l-ʿij'la sayanāluhum ghaḍabun min rabbihim wadhillatun fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā wakadhālika najzī l-muf'tarīn

وَٱلَّذِینَ عَمِلُوا۟ ٱلسَّیِّءَاتِ ثُمَّ تَابُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهَا وَءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهَا لَغَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝١٥٣

But there are some who became regretful after their misdeeds and repented, and they believed... Indeed, your Rabb, thereafter, is the Ghafur, the Rahim.

wa-alladhīna ʿamilū l-sayiāti thumma tābū min baʿdihā waāmanū inna rabbaka min baʿdihā laghafūrun raḥīmu

وَلَمَّا سَكَتَ عَن مُّوسَى ٱلۡغَضَبُ أَخَذَ ٱلۡأَلۡوَاحَۖ وَفِی نُسۡخَتِهَا هُدࣰى وَرَحۡمَةࣱ لِّلَّذِینَ هُمۡ لِرَبِّهِمۡ یَرۡهَبُونَ ۝١٥٤

When Moses’ anger subsided he took the tablets... In that inscribed text, there is guidance (comprehension of the reality) and grace from their Rabb, for those who fear.

walammā sakata ʿan mūsā l-ghaḍabu akhadha l-alwāḥa wafī nus'khatihā hudan waraḥmatun lilladhīna hum lirabbihim yarhabūn

وَٱخۡتَارَ مُوسَىٰ قَوۡمَهُۥ سَبۡعِینَ رَجُلࣰا لِّمِیقَـٰتِنَاۖ فَلَمَّاۤ أَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلرَّجۡفَةُ قَالَ رَبِّ لَوۡ شِئۡتَ أَهۡلَكۡتَهُم مِّن قَبۡلُ وَإِیَّـٰیَۖ أَتُهۡلِكُنَا بِمَا فَعَلَ ٱلسُّفَهَاۤءُ مِنَّاۤۖ إِنۡ هِیَ إِلَّا فِتۡنَتُكَ تُضِلُّ بِهَا مَن تَشَاۤءُ وَتَهۡدِی مَن تَشَاۤءُۖ أَنتَ وَلِیُّنَا فَٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَٱرۡحَمۡنَاۖ وَأَنتَ خَیۡرُ ٱلۡغَـٰفِرِینَ ۝١٥٥

Moses chose seventy men among his people to go to the appointed place to repent... When a severe earthquake seized them, (Moses) said, “My Rabb... Had You willed, You could have destroyed both them and I (for covering the reality) before! Will You destroy us now for the actions of the foolish (limited in intellect) among us? This is only your provocation (trial) with which You lead astray whom You will and guide whom You will... You are our Waliyy (guardian). Forgive us and bestow Your grace upon us... You are the best of forgivers.”

wa-ikh'tāra mūsā qawmahu sabʿīna rajulan limīqātinā falammā akhadhathumu l-rajfatu qāla rabbi law shi'ta ahlaktahum min qablu wa-iyyāya atuh'likunā bimā faʿala l-sufahāu minnā in hiya illā fit'natuka tuḍillu bihā man tashāu watahdī man tashāu anta waliyyunā fa-igh'fir lanā wa-ir'ḥamnā wa-anta khayru l-ghāfirīn

۞ وَٱكۡتُبۡ لَنَا فِی هَـٰذِهِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا حَسَنَةࣰ وَفِی ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ إِنَّا هُدۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡكَۚ قَالَ عَذَابِیۤ أُصِیبُ بِهِۦ مَنۡ أَشَاۤءُۖ وَرَحۡمَتِی وَسِعَتۡ كُلَّ شَیۡءࣲۚ فَسَأَكۡتُبُهَا لِلَّذِینَ یَتَّقُونَ وَیُؤۡتُونَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَٱلَّذِینَ هُم بِءَایَـٰتِنَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١٥٦

“And decree good things for us both in this world and the eternal life to come... Indeed, we have turned to You”... He said, “I afflict whom I will with My wrath... My grace encompasses all things! I will decree it for those who protect themselves, who give alms, and who believe in the reality, in Our signs.”

wa-uk'tub lanā fī hādhihi l-dun'yā ḥasanatan wafī l-ākhirati innā hud'nā ilayka qāla ʿadhābī uṣību bihi man ashāu waraḥmatī wasiʿat kulla shayin fasa-aktubuhā lilladhīna yattaqūna wayu'tūna l-zakata wa-alladhīna hum biāyātinā yu'minūn

ٱلَّذِینَ یَتَّبِعُونَ ٱلرَّسُولَ ٱلنَّبِیَّ ٱلۡأُمِّیَّ ٱلَّذِی یَجِدُونَهُۥ مَكۡتُوبًا عِندَهُمۡ فِی ٱلتَّوۡرَىٰةِ وَٱلۡإِنجِیلِ یَأۡمُرُهُم بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِ وَیَنۡهَىٰهُمۡ عَنِ ٱلۡمُنكَرِ وَیُحِلُّ لَهُمُ ٱلطَّیِّبَـٰتِ وَیُحَرِّمُ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡخَبَـٰۤىِٕثَ وَیَضَعُ عَنۡهُمۡ إِصۡرَهُمۡ وَٱلۡأَغۡلَـٰلَ ٱلَّتِی كَانَتۡ عَلَیۡهِمۡۚ فَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِهِۦ وَعَزَّرُوهُ وَنَصَرُوهُ وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ ٱلنُّورَ ٱلَّذِیۤ أُنزِلَ مَعَهُۥۤ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ ۝١٥٧

Those who follow the Rasul, the Ummi (unlettered) Nabi (whose natural disposition has not been corrupted and original purity is preserved) who has been stated in the Torah and the Gospel in their hands... He orders what is favorable (positive) according to Allah and forbids what is unfavorable (negative) he makes the clean things lawful and prohibits the filthy and ugly things, he relieves them of the heavy burdens on their backs and unshackles them from their chains (the ties preventing them from turning to Allah)... Those who believe in him, respect (support) him, help him and follow the Nur (Quran) that has been revealed to him, they are the ones who will attain liberation!

alladhīna yattabiʿūna l-rasūla l-nabiya l-umiya alladhī yajidūnahu maktūban ʿindahum fī l-tawrāti wal-injīli yamuruhum bil-maʿrūfi wayanhāhum ʿani l-munkari wayuḥillu lahumu l-ṭayibāti wayuḥarrimu ʿalayhimu l-khabāitha wayaḍaʿu ʿanhum iṣ'rahum wal-aghlāla allatī kānat ʿalayhim fa-alladhīna āmanū bihi waʿazzarūhu wanaṣarūhu wa-ittabaʿū l-nūra alladhī unzila maʿahu ulāika humu l-muf'liḥūn

20 Divine Favours on Israelites

قُلۡ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ إِنِّی رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ إِلَیۡكُمۡ جَمِیعًا ٱلَّذِی لَهُۥ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ یُحۡیِۦ وَیُمِیتُۖ فَءَامِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ٱلنَّبِیِّ ٱلۡأُمِّیِّ ٱلَّذِی یُؤۡمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦ وَٱتَّبِعُوهُ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَهۡتَدُونَ ۝١٥٨

Say, “O people... I am indeed a Rasul of Allah who has come to you all... To HU belongs the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth! There is no god (deity) only HU! He gives life and causes death! So believe in Allah, whose Names comprise the essence of your being, and his Rasul, the Ummi (unlettered) Nabi, who believes in Allah, the essence of his self, and what He disclosed... Follow him so that you may be lead to the reality.”

qul yāayyuhā l-nāsu innī rasūlu l-lahi ilaykum jamīʿan alladhī lahu mul'ku l-samāwāti wal-arḍi lā ilāha illā huwa yuḥ'yī wayumītu faāminū bil-lahi warasūlihi l-nabiyi l-umiyi alladhī yu'minu bil-lahi wakalimātihi wa-ittabiʿūhu laʿallakum tahtadūn

وَمِن قَوۡمِ مُوسَىٰۤ أُمَّةࣱ یَهۡدُونَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَبِهِۦ یَعۡدِلُونَ ۝١٥٩

There is a group among the people of Moses who informs the reality based on the Truth, and as the requirement of living the reality, performs all things duly and justly!

wamin qawmi mūsā ummatun yahdūna bil-ḥaqi wabihi yaʿdilūn

وَقَطَّعۡنَـٰهُمُ ٱثۡنَتَیۡ عَشۡرَةَ أَسۡبَاطًا أُمَمࣰاۚ وَأَوۡحَیۡنَاۤ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰۤ إِذِ ٱسۡتَسۡقَىٰهُ قَوۡمُهُۥۤ أَنِ ٱضۡرِب بِّعَصَاكَ ٱلۡحَجَرَۖ فَٱنۢبَجَسَتۡ مِنۡهُ ٱثۡنَتَا عَشۡرَةَ عَیۡنࣰاۖ قَدۡ عَلِمَ كُلُّ أُنَاسࣲ مَّشۡرَبَهُمۡۚ وَظَلَّلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡغَمَـٰمَ وَأَنزَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡمَنَّ وَٱلسَّلۡوَىٰۖ كُلُوا۟ مِن طَیِّبَـٰتِ مَا رَزَقۡنَـٰكُمۡۚ وَمَا ظَلَمُونَا وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ یَظۡلِمُونَ ۝١٦٠

We have divided them into twelve communities... And We inspired Moses, when his people asked for water from him, “Strike the stone with your staff (by integrating the staff with the forces within your essence)”... and there gushed forth twelve springs... Every group of people knew their way (their drinking place). And We shaded them with clouds and disclosed for them manna (power) and quails... (We said) “Eat from the clean and pure things with which We have provided you”... They did not do wrong to Us, but they wronged their own selves.

waqaṭṭaʿnāhumu ith'natay ʿashrata asbāṭan umaman wa-awḥaynā ilā mūsā idhi is'tasqāhu qawmuhu ani iḍ'rib biʿaṣāka l-ḥajara fa-inbajasat min'hu ith'natā ʿashrata ʿaynan qad ʿalima kullu unāsin mashrabahum waẓallalnā ʿalayhimu l-ghamāma wa-anzalnā ʿalayhimu l-mana wal-salwā kulū min ṭayyibāti mā razaqnākum wamā ẓalamūnā walākin kānū anfusahum yaẓlimūn

وَإِذۡ قِیلَ لَهُمُ ٱسۡكُنُوا۟ هَـٰذِهِ ٱلۡقَرۡیَةَ وَكُلُوا۟ مِنۡهَا حَیۡثُ شِئۡتُمۡ وَقُولُوا۟ حِطَّةࣱ وَٱدۡخُلُوا۟ ٱلۡبَابَ سُجَّدࣰا نَّغۡفِرۡ لَكُمۡ خَطِیۤءَـٰتِكُمۡۚ سَنَزِیدُ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝١٦١

And (mention) when it was said to them, “Dwell in this city and eat from it wherever you will... Say, ‘Forgive us’ and enter through its gate by experiencing the meaning of prostration, so that We may forgive your mistakes... We will increase it even more for the doers of good.”

wa-idh qīla lahumu us'kunū hādhihi l-qaryata wakulū min'hā ḥaythu shi'tum waqūlū ḥiṭṭatun wa-ud'khulū l-bāba sujjadan naghfir lakum khaṭīātikum sanazīdu l-muḥ'sinīn

فَبَدَّلَ ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مِنۡهُمۡ قَوۡلًا غَیۡرَ ٱلَّذِی قِیلَ لَهُمۡ فَأَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ رِجۡزࣰا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَظۡلِمُونَ ۝١٦٢

Those among them who did wrong in deed, changed the words to a statement other than that which was said to them... This is why We sent down suffering from the sky as the consequence of their wrongdoing.

fabaddala alladhīna ẓalamū min'hum qawlan ghayra alladhī qīla lahum fa-arsalnā ʿalayhim rij'zan mina l-samāi bimā kānū yaẓlimūn

21 Israelites' Transgressions

وَسۡءَلۡهُمۡ عَنِ ٱلۡقَرۡیَةِ ٱلَّتِی كَانَتۡ حَاضِرَةَ ٱلۡبَحۡرِ إِذۡ یَعۡدُونَ فِی ٱلسَّبۡتِ إِذۡ تَأۡتِیهِمۡ حِیتَانُهُمۡ یَوۡمَ سَبۡتِهِمۡ شُرَّعࣰا وَیَوۡمَ لَا یَسۡبِتُونَ لَا تَأۡتِیهِمۡۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَبۡلُوهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَفۡسُقُونَ ۝١٦٣

Ask them about the town by the sea!... How they had transgressed on Sabbath (by going fishing on a Saturday)... Because the fish increased in number and revealed themselves on Sabbath but disappeared on other days! We tried them like this because they were given to transgression.

wasalhum ʿani l-qaryati allatī kānat ḥāḍirata l-baḥri idh yaʿdūna fī l-sabti idh tatīhim ḥītānuhum yawma sabtihim shurraʿan wayawma lā yasbitūna lā tatīhim kadhālika nablūhum bimā kānū yafsuqūn

وَإِذۡ قَالَتۡ أُمَّةࣱ مِّنۡهُمۡ لِمَ تَعِظُونَ قَوۡمًا ٱللَّهُ مُهۡلِكُهُمۡ أَوۡ مُعَذِّبُهُمۡ عَذَابࣰا شَدِیدࣰاۖ قَالُوا۟ مَعۡذِرَةً إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُمۡ وَلَعَلَّهُمۡ یَتَّقُونَ ۝١٦٤

And when a community among them said, “Why do you give advice to people who Allah will destroy or punish with a severe suffering?”... They said, “To be absolved from our responsibility in the sight of our Rabb; and so that perhaps they may protect themselves.”

wa-idh qālat ummatun min'hum lima taʿiẓūna qawman l-lahu muh'likuhum aw muʿadhibuhum ʿadhāban shadīdan qālū maʿdhiratan ilā rabbikum walaʿallahum yattaqūn

فَلَمَّا نَسُوا۟ مَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ بِهِۦۤ أَنجَیۡنَا ٱلَّذِینَ یَنۡهَوۡنَ عَنِ ٱلسُّوۤءِ وَأَخَذۡنَا ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ بِعَذَابِۭ بَءِیسِۭ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَفۡسُقُونَ ۝١٦٥

When they forgot the advice given to them, We saved those who tried to prevent wrongdoing, and seized the wrongdoers with a wretched suffering, because of the mistaken deeds they were doing.

falammā nasū mā dhukkirū bihi anjaynā alladhīna yanhawna ʿani l-sūi wa-akhadhnā alladhīna ẓalamū biʿadhābin baīsin bimā kānū yafsuqūn

فَلَمَّا عَتَوۡا۟ عَن مَّا نُهُوا۟ عَنۡهُ قُلۡنَا لَهُمۡ كُونُوا۟ قِرَدَةً خَـٰسِءِینَ ۝١٦٦

And when they became arrogant and transgressed that which was forbidden, We said to them, “Become despised apes (creatures who live in imitation of one another, who cannot use their intellect).”

falammā ʿataw ʿan mā nuhū ʿanhu qul'nā lahum kūnū qiradatan khāsiīn

وَإِذۡ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكَ لَیَبۡعَثَنَّ عَلَیۡهِمۡ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ مَن یَسُومُهُمۡ سُوۤءَ ٱلۡعَذَابِۗ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَسَرِیعُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ وَإِنَّهُۥ لَغَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝١٦٧

And your Rabb has declared, He will certainly manifest those who will inflict themselves with the worst torment until Doomsday... Indeed, your Rabb is Sari’ul Iqab (instantly forms the consequences of misdeeds)... Indeed, He is the Ghafur, the Rahim.

wa-idh ta-adhana rabbuka layabʿathanna ʿalayhim ilā yawmi l-qiyāmati man yasūmuhum sūa l-ʿadhābi inna rabbaka lasarīʿu l-ʿiqābi wa-innahu laghafūrun raḥīmu

وَقَطَّعۡنَـٰهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أُمَمࣰاۖ مِّنۡهُمُ ٱلصَّـٰلِحُونَ وَمِنۡهُمۡ دُونَ ذَ ٰلِكَۖ وَبَلَوۡنَـٰهُم بِٱلۡحَسَنَـٰتِ وَٱلسَّیِّءَاتِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝١٦٨

We have divided them into factions on the earth... There are some among them who are righteous (those who live according to the requirements of having faith in the reality)... And there are some among them who are of an inferior level... We have tried them with good and bad that perhaps they will turn to the reality.

waqaṭṭaʿnāhum fī l-arḍi umaman min'humu l-ṣāliḥūna wamin'hum dūna dhālika wabalawnāhum bil-ḥasanāti wal-sayiāti laʿallahum yarjiʿūn

فَخَلَفَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ خَلۡفࣱ وَرِثُوا۟ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ یَأۡخُذُونَ عَرَضَ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡأَدۡنَىٰ وَیَقُولُونَ سَیُغۡفَرُ لَنَا وَإِن یَأۡتِهِمۡ عَرَضࣱ مِّثۡلُهُۥ یَأۡخُذُوهُۚ أَلَمۡ یُؤۡخَذۡ عَلَیۡهِم مِّیثَـٰقُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ أَن لَّا یَقُولُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلۡحَقَّ وَدَرَسُوا۟ مَا فِیهِۗ وَٱلدَّارُ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةُ خَیۡرࣱ لِّلَّذِینَ یَتَّقُونَۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ ۝١٦٩

And following them were new generations who inherited the knowledge of the reality... They were living to attain the wealth of this base worldly life and were claiming, “We will be forgiven anyhow.” If they were offered an equal amount of worldly goods, they would have taken that too... Was a covenant not taken from them that they would not say things about Allah not based on the Truth? Did they not take a lesson from it and study what is in it? The eternal life to come is better for the protected ones... Will you not use your reason?

fakhalafa min baʿdihim khalfun warithū l-kitāba yakhudhūna ʿaraḍa hādhā l-adnā wayaqūlūna sayugh'faru lanā wa-in yatihim ʿaraḍun mith'luhu yakhudhūhu alam yu'khadh ʿalayhim mīthāqu l-kitābi an lā yaqūlū ʿalā l-lahi illā l-ḥaqa wadarasū mā fīhi wal-dāru l-ākhiratu khayrun lilladhīna yattaqūna afalā taʿqilūn

وَٱلَّذِینَ یُمَسِّكُونَ بِٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ إِنَّا لَا نُضِیعُ أَجۡرَ ٱلۡمُصۡلِحِینَ ۝١٧٠

As for those who adhere to the knowledge of the reality (Book) and perform salat (prayer; experience their essence), indeed, We will not leave those who are reformed and those who reform without a reward.

wa-alladhīna yumassikūna bil-kitābi wa-aqāmū l-ṣalata innā lā nuḍīʿu ajra l-muṣ'liḥīn

۞ وَإِذۡ نَتَقۡنَا ٱلۡجَبَلَ فَوۡقَهُمۡ كَأَنَّهُۥ ظُلَّةࣱ وَظَنُّوۤا۟ أَنَّهُۥ وَاقِعُۢ بِهِمۡ خُذُوا۟ مَاۤ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰكُم بِقُوَّةࣲ وَٱذۡكُرُوا۟ مَا فِیهِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَتَّقُونَ ۝١٧١

And (mention) when We had raised the mountain above them as if it was a canopy, and they thought it was going to fall upon them and destroy them... “Hold firmly what We have given you, reflect upon what is therein and remember it so that you may be protected.”

wa-idh nataqnā l-jabala fawqahum ka-annahu ẓullatun waẓannū annahu wāqiʿun bihim khudhū mā ātaynākum biquwwatin wa-udh'kurū mā fīhi laʿallakum tattaqūn

22 Divine Impress on Man's Nature

وَإِذۡ أَخَذَ رَبُّكَ مِنۢ بَنِیۤ ءَادَمَ مِن ظُهُورِهِمۡ ذُرِّیَّتَهُمۡ وَأَشۡهَدَهُمۡ عَلَىٰۤ أَنفُسِهِمۡ أَلَسۡتُ بِرَبِّكُمۡۖ قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ شَهِدۡنَاۤۚ أَن تَقُولُوا۟ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ إِنَّا كُنَّا عَنۡ هَـٰذَا غَـٰفِلِینَ ۝١٧٢

And (mention) when your Rabb took from the children of Adam, from their loins (semen, genes), their descendants and made them testify to their own selves, asking them, “Am I not your Rabb?” and they said, “Yes, indeed we bear witness!” (Of this we remind you) – lest you say on the day of Resurrection, “We were cocooned (unaware of this knowledge) of this” (This refers to man being created upon the natural disposition of Islam).

wa-idh akhadha rabbuka min banī ādama min ẓuhūrihim dhurriyyatahum wa-ashhadahum ʿalā anfusihim alastu birabbikum qālū balā shahid'nā an taqūlū yawma l-qiyāmati innā kunnā ʿan hādhā ghāfilīn

أَوۡ تَقُولُوۤا۟ إِنَّمَاۤ أَشۡرَكَ ءَابَاۤؤُنَا مِن قَبۡلُ وَكُنَّا ذُرِّیَّةࣰ مِّنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡۖ أَفَتُهۡلِكُنَا بِمَا فَعَلَ ٱلۡمُبۡطِلُونَ ۝١٧٣

And so that you don’t say, “Our fathers lived only as dualists, and we are their descendants (the continuation of their genetic coding) so will You destroy us because of our fathers’ denial of the Truth?” (i.e. This is an invalid excuse as everyone is created upon the natural disposition of Islam, but their understanding of religion derives from the environmental conditionings they receive).

aw taqūlū innamā ashraka ābāunā min qablu wakunnā dhurriyyatan min baʿdihim afatuh'likunā bimā faʿala l-mub'ṭilūn

وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ وَلَعَلَّهُمۡ یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝١٧٤

Thus We explain in detail the proofs – signs – that perhaps they will return (to their essential reality).

wakadhālika nufaṣṣilu l-āyāti walaʿallahum yarjiʿūn

وَٱتۡلُ عَلَیۡهِمۡ نَبَأَ ٱلَّذِیۤ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُ ءَایَـٰتِنَا فَٱنسَلَخَ مِنۡهَا فَأَتۡبَعَهُ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡغَاوِینَ ۝١٧٥

Give them the news of the man to whom We have given Our signs, yet he detached himself from the knowledge and left it (forgot the reality and pursued a life based on ego-identity)... (Then) Satan (accepting one’s self as only the body) made him a follower (of this belief, until finally) he became of the astray ones.

wa-ut'lu ʿalayhim naba-a alladhī ātaynāhu āyātinā fa-insalakha min'hā fa-atbaʿahu l-shayṭānu fakāna mina l-ghāwīn

وَلَوۡ شِئۡنَا لَرَفَعۡنَـٰهُ بِهَا وَلَـٰكِنَّهُۥۤ أَخۡلَدَ إِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَٱتَّبَعَ هَوَىٰهُۚ فَمَثَلُهُۥ كَمَثَلِ ٱلۡكَلۡبِ إِن تَحۡمِلۡ عَلَیۡهِ یَلۡهَثۡ أَوۡ تَتۡرُكۡهُ یَلۡهَثۚ ذَّ ٰلِكَ مَثَلُ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَاۚ فَٱقۡصُصِ ٱلۡقَصَصَ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَتَفَكَّرُونَ ۝١٧٦

Had We willed, We would have elevated him with these signs... But (instead) he settled on earth (bodily life) and followed his baseless impulses! So, his example is like that of a dog: if you chase him he pants, if you leave him he pants... This is what the people who deny Our signs look like! Relate this to them, perhaps they will contemplate upon it.

walaw shi'nā larafaʿnāhu bihā walākinnahu akhlada ilā l-arḍi wa-ittabaʿa hawāhu famathaluhu kamathali l-kalbi in taḥmil ʿalayhi yalhath aw tatruk'hu yalhath dhālika mathalu l-qawmi alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā fa-uq'ṣuṣi l-qaṣaṣa laʿallahum yatafakkarūn

سَاۤءَ مَثَلًا ٱلۡقَوۡمُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا وَأَنفُسَهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ یَظۡلِمُونَ ۝١٧٧

How wretched is the state of people who deny Our signs (manifestations of Names) and (hence) do wrong to their selves!

sāa mathalan l-qawmu alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā wa-anfusahum kānū yaẓlimūn

مَن یَهۡدِ ٱللَّهُ فَهُوَ ٱلۡمُهۡتَدِیۖ وَمَن یُضۡلِلۡ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرُونَ ۝١٧٨

Whoever is enabled by Allah to observe his innermost essential self, he is the one who reaches the reality! And whoever Allah leads astray, indeed they are the ones who are in loss.

man yahdi l-lahu fahuwa l-muh'tadī waman yuḍ'lil fa-ulāika humu l-khāsirūn

وَلَقَدۡ ذَرَأۡنَا لِجَهَنَّمَ كَثِیرࣰا مِّنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ وَٱلۡإِنسِۖ لَهُمۡ قُلُوبࣱ لَّا یَفۡقَهُونَ بِهَا وَلَهُمۡ أَعۡیُنࣱ لَّا یُبۡصِرُونَ بِهَا وَلَهُمۡ ءَاذَانࣱ لَّا یَسۡمَعُونَ بِهَاۤۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ كَٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمِ بَلۡ هُمۡ أَضَلُّۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡغَـٰفِلُونَ ۝١٧٩

Indeed, We have created and increased in number the majority of the jinn and mankind for the life of hell! They have hearts (consciousness) with which they cannot understand (the reality), they have eyes with which they cannot evaluate what they see, they have ears with which they cannot understand what they hear! They are like cattle (an’am), nay, they are even less conscious of the right way: it is they who are the truly heedless (living in their cocoons)!

walaqad dharanā lijahannama kathīran mina l-jini wal-insi lahum qulūbun lā yafqahūna bihā walahum aʿyunun lā yub'ṣirūna bihā walahum ādhānun lā yasmaʿūna bihā ulāika kal-anʿāmi bal hum aḍallu ulāika humu l-ghāfilūn

وَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡأَسۡمَاۤءُ ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ فَٱدۡعُوهُ بِهَاۖ وَذَرُوا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ یُلۡحِدُونَ فِیۤ أَسۡمَـٰۤىِٕهِۦۚ سَیُجۡزَوۡنَ مَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٨٠

And to Allah belongs the most beautiful Names (the qualities denoted by those Names reference the One and the Absolutely Self-sufficient Allah, hence these Names and their meanings belong to Him alone and cannot be defined by human concepts. As noted in 23:91 “Exalted (Subhan) is Allah beyond what they attribute to Him”), so turn to Him through the meanings of His Names. And leave the company of those who practice deviation (fall into duality) concerning His Names. They will be recompensed for what they have been doing.

walillahi l-asmāu l-ḥus'nā fa-id'ʿūhu bihā wadharū alladhīna yul'ḥidūna fī asmāihi sayuj'zawna mā kānū yaʿmalūn

وَمِمَّنۡ خَلَقۡنَاۤ أُمَّةࣱ یَهۡدُونَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَبِهِۦ یَعۡدِلُونَ ۝١٨١

And among those We created there is (such) a community, they guide to the reality by the Truth, and they give everything its due right!

wamimman khalaqnā ummatun yahdūna bil-ḥaqi wabihi yaʿdilūn

23 Coming of Doom

وَٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا سَنَسۡتَدۡرِجُهُم مِّنۡ حَیۡثُ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝١٨٢

We will progressively lead those who deny Our signs (pertaining to the reality) to destruction from where they do not know (through a scheme).

wa-alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā sanastadrijuhum min ḥaythu lā yaʿlamūn

وَأُمۡلِی لَهُمۡۚ إِنَّ كَیۡدِی مَتِینٌ ۝١٨٣

And I will give them time to do what they want... Indeed, My fine plan is firm.

wa-um'lī lahum inna kaydī matīnu

أَوَ لَمۡ یَتَفَكَّرُوا۟ۗ مَا بِصَاحِبِهِم مِّن جِنَّةٍۚ إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا نَذِیرࣱ مُّبِینٌ ۝١٨٤

Did they not give thought? There is no madness (mindlessness) in their companion! He is only a clear warner.

awalam yatafakkarū mā biṣāḥibihim min jinnatin in huwa illā nadhīrun mubīnu

أَوَ لَمۡ یَنظُرُوا۟ فِی مَلَكُوتِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ مِن شَیۡءࣲ وَأَنۡ عَسَىٰۤ أَن یَكُونَ قَدِ ٱقۡتَرَبَ أَجَلُهُمۡۖ فَبِأَیِّ حَدِیثِۭ بَعۡدَهُۥ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١٨٥

Did they not look into the angelic realms (forces) of the heavens and the earth, to anything Allah has created, and that perhaps their appointed time (death) has neared? So, (if they do not take heed of this) what statement will they believe in?

awalam yanẓurū fī malakūti l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wamā khalaqa l-lahu min shayin wa-an ʿasā an yakūna qadi iq'taraba ajaluhum fabi-ayyi ḥadīthin baʿdahu yu'minūn

مَن یُضۡلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَلَا هَادِیَ لَهُۥۚ وَیَذَرُهُمۡ فِی طُغۡیَـٰنِهِمۡ یَعۡمَهُونَ ۝١٨٦

Whoever Allah leads astray, there is no guide for him... He will leave them in their transgression, wandering blindly.

man yuḍ'lili l-lahu falā hādiya lahu wayadharuhum fī ṭugh'yānihim yaʿmahūn

یَسۡءَلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ أَیَّانَ مُرۡسَىٰهَاۖ قُلۡ إِنَّمَا عِلۡمُهَا عِندَ رَبِّیۖ لَا یُجَلِّیهَا لِوَقۡتِهَاۤ إِلَّا هُوَۚ ثَقُلَتۡ فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ لَا تَأۡتِیكُمۡ إِلَّا بَغۡتَةࣰۗ یَسۡءَلُونَكَ كَأَنَّكَ حَفِیٌّ عَنۡهَاۖ قُلۡ إِنَّمَا عِلۡمُهَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝١٨٧

They ask you, “When will that hour arrive?”... Say, “Its knowledge is only with my Rabb... HU is the One who will reveal it when it is time! (Concepts such as time, place, object, and person cannot be conceived in regards to that reflection)... It weighs heavy on the heavens and the earth... It will come to you unexpectedly.” They ask you as if you know it (through experience)... Say, “Its knowledge is with Allah alone... But the majority of the people do not know.”

yasalūnaka ʿani l-sāʿati ayyāna mur'sāhā qul innamā ʿil'muhā ʿinda rabbī lā yujallīhā liwaqtihā illā huwa thaqulat fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi lā tatīkum illā baghtatan yasalūnaka ka-annaka ḥafiyyun ʿanhā qul innamā ʿil'muhā ʿinda l-lahi walākinna akthara l-nāsi lā yaʿlamūn

قُل لَّاۤ أَمۡلِكُ لِنَفۡسِی نَفۡعࣰا وَلَا ضَرًّا إِلَّا مَا شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُۚ وَلَوۡ كُنتُ أَعۡلَمُ ٱلۡغَیۡبَ لَٱسۡتَكۡثَرۡتُ مِنَ ٱلۡخَیۡرِ وَمَا مَسَّنِیَ ٱلسُّوۤءُۚ إِنۡ أَنَا۠ إِلَّا نَذِیرࣱ وَبَشِیرࣱ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١٨٨

Say, “I cannot form any benefit or any harm for myself, other than what Allah wills... If I had known (the absolute) unknown, surely I would have multiplied all good and no harm would have touched me... I am merely a warner and a bringer of glad tidings for a people who believe.”

qul lā amliku linafsī nafʿan walā ḍarran illā mā shāa l-lahu walaw kuntu aʿlamu l-ghayba la-is'takthartu mina l-khayri wamā massaniya l-sūu in anā illā nadhīrun wabashīrun liqawmin yu'minūn

24 The Final Word

۞ هُوَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَكُم مِّن نَّفۡسࣲ وَ ٰحِدَةࣲ وَجَعَلَ مِنۡهَا زَوۡجَهَا لِیَسۡكُنَ إِلَیۡهَاۖ فَلَمَّا تَغَشَّىٰهَا حَمَلَتۡ حَمۡلًا خَفِیفࣰا فَمَرَّتۡ بِهِۦۖ فَلَمَّاۤ أَثۡقَلَت دَّعَوَا ٱللَّهَ رَبَّهُمَا لَىِٕنۡ ءَاتَیۡتَنَا صَـٰلِحࣰا لَّنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلشَّـٰكِرِینَ ۝١٨٩

HU created you from ONE single soul – I’ness (in the macro plan this is known as the Reality of Muhammad and the First Intellect, in the micro plan it is known as the human consciousness and the Grand Intellect) and from it, formed his partner (at the macro plan: the universe; at the micro plan: the brain) so that you dwell with her... And when he covered her (his partner) she loaded a light burden and carried it... When it got heavy, they both prayed to Allah, “Indeed, if You give us a righteous (child) we will surely be among the evaluators.” (This verse can be understood both in terms of the formation of the worlds and the formation of humans).

huwa alladhī khalaqakum min nafsin wāḥidatin wajaʿala min'hā zawjahā liyaskuna ilayhā falammā taghashāhā ḥamalat ḥamlan khafīfan famarrat bihi falammā athqalat daʿawā l-laha rabbahumā la-in ātaytanā ṣāliḥan lanakūnanna mina l-shākirīn

فَلَمَّاۤ ءَاتَىٰهُمَا صَـٰلِحࣰا جَعَلَا لَهُۥ شُرَكَاۤءَ فِیمَاۤ ءَاتَىٰهُمَاۚ فَتَعَـٰلَى ٱللَّهُ عَمَّا یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝١٩٠

But when He gave them a righteous (child) they associated partners with Him concerning what He gave them... Exalted is Allah above what they associate with Him.

falammā ātāhumā ṣāliḥan jaʿalā lahu shurakāa fīmā ātāhumā fataʿālā l-lahu ʿammā yush'rikūn

أَیُشۡرِكُونَ مَا لَا یَخۡلُقُ شَیۡءࣰا وَهُمۡ یُخۡلَقُونَ ۝١٩١

Are they associating those who do not create anything when they themselves are created? (There is a reference in these two verses to the tendency of mankind to conceive natural events and creatures as deities/gods besides Allah.)

ayush'rikūna mā lā yakhluqu shayan wahum yukh'laqūn

وَلَا یَسۡتَطِیعُونَ لَهُمۡ نَصۡرࣰا وَلَاۤ أَنفُسَهُمۡ یَنصُرُونَ ۝١٩٢

(The deities they associate with Allah) have neither the power to help them, nor themselves!

walā yastaṭīʿūna lahum naṣran walā anfusahum yanṣurūn

وَإِن تَدۡعُوهُمۡ إِلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰ لَا یَتَّبِعُوكُمۡۚ سَوَاۤءٌ عَلَیۡكُمۡ أَدَعَوۡتُمُوهُمۡ أَمۡ أَنتُمۡ صَـٰمِتُونَ ۝١٩٣

If you invite them to guidance (the realization of one’s essential reality) they will not follow you... Whether you invite them or remain silent, it is all the same.

wa-in tadʿūhum ilā l-hudā lā yattabiʿūkum sawāon ʿalaykum adaʿawtumūhum am antum ṣāmitūn

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ تَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ عِبَادٌ أَمۡثَالُكُمۡۖ فَٱدۡعُوهُمۡ فَلۡیَسۡتَجِیبُوا۟ لَكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝١٩٤

Those to which you turn besides Allah are merely servants like yourselves! If you are persistent (in your belief) call them and let them respond to you!

inna alladhīna tadʿūna min dūni l-lahi ʿibādun amthālukum fa-id'ʿūhum falyastajībū lakum in kuntum ṣādiqīn

أَلَهُمۡ أَرۡجُلࣱ یَمۡشُونَ بِهَاۤۖ أَمۡ لَهُمۡ أَیۡدࣲ یَبۡطِشُونَ بِهَاۤۖ أَمۡ لَهُمۡ أَعۡیُنࣱ یُبۡصِرُونَ بِهَاۤۖ أَمۡ لَهُمۡ ءَاذَانࣱ یَسۡمَعُونَ بِهَاۗ قُلِ ٱدۡعُوا۟ شُرَكَاۤءَكُمۡ ثُمَّ كِیدُونِ فَلَا تُنظِرُونِ ۝١٩٥

Do they have feet with which they walk, hands with which they hold, eyes with which they see, or ears with which they hear? Say, “Call your partners (that you associate with Allah) and conspire against me and give me no respite!”

alahum arjulun yamshūna bihā am lahum aydin yabṭishūna bihā am lahum aʿyunun yub'ṣirūna bihā am lahum ādhānun yasmaʿūna bihā quli id'ʿū shurakāakum thumma kīdūni falā tunẓirūn

إِنَّ وَلِـِّۧیَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی نَزَّلَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَۖ وَهُوَ یَتَوَلَّى ٱلصَّـٰلِحِینَ ۝١٩٦

Indeed, my Waliyy (guardian) is Allah, the One who has revealed the knowledge (Book) of the reality! He befriends the doers of good.

inna waliyyiya l-lahu alladhī nazzala l-kitāba wahuwa yatawallā l-ṣāliḥīn

وَٱلَّذِینَ تَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ لَا یَسۡتَطِیعُونَ نَصۡرَكُمۡ وَلَاۤ أَنفُسَهُمۡ یَنصُرُونَ ۝١٩٧

Those to whom you call upon (for help) besides Him, have neither the power to help you nor can they help themselves.

wa-alladhīna tadʿūna min dūnihi lā yastaṭīʿūna naṣrakum walā anfusahum yanṣurūn

وَإِن تَدۡعُوهُمۡ إِلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰ لَا یَسۡمَعُوا۟ۖ وَتَرَىٰهُمۡ یَنظُرُونَ إِلَیۡكَ وَهُمۡ لَا یُبۡصِرُونَ ۝١٩٨

If you call them for guidance they will not hear... You will think they are looking at you but they will not see!

wa-in tadʿūhum ilā l-hudā lā yasmaʿū watarāhum yanẓurūna ilayka wahum lā yub'ṣirūn

خُذِ ٱلۡعَفۡوَ وَأۡمُرۡ بِٱلۡعُرۡفِ وَأَعۡرِضۡ عَنِ ٱلۡجَـٰهِلِینَ ۝١٩٩

Be forgiving, judge with positive and useful things, and turn away from the ignorant!

khudhi l-ʿafwa wamur bil-ʿur'fi wa-aʿriḍ ʿani l-jāhilīn

وَإِمَّا یَنزَغَنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنِ نَزۡغࣱ فَٱسۡتَعِذۡ بِٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّهُۥ سَمِیعٌ عَلِیمٌ ۝٢٠٠

If an impulse comes to you from Satan (if you are tempted towards bodily desires and curtained from your reality) immediately seek refuge in Allah (the forces of the Names comprising your essential reality)... For He is the Sami, the Aleem.

wa-immā yanzaghannaka mina l-shayṭāni nazghun fa-is'taʿidh bil-lahi innahu samīʿun ʿalīmu

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱتَّقَوۡا۟ إِذَا مَسَّهُمۡ طَـٰۤىِٕفࣱ مِّنَ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنِ تَذَكَّرُوا۟ فَإِذَا هُم مُّبۡصِرُونَ ۝٢٠١

As for those who are protected, when an impulse touches them from Satan (those who confine their existence to their body alone) they think about and remember (their essential reality)... They evaluate with insight.

inna alladhīna ittaqaw idhā massahum ṭāifun mina l-shayṭāni tadhakkarū fa-idhā hum mub'ṣirūn

وَإِخۡوَ ٰنُهُمۡ یَمُدُّونَهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡغَیِّ ثُمَّ لَا یُقۡصِرُونَ ۝٢٠٢

But their (devils’) brothers drag them to emotionality and extremity... And they will not let them be!

wa-ikh'wānuhum yamuddūnahum fī l-ghayi thumma lā yuq'ṣirūn

وَإِذَا لَمۡ تَأۡتِهِم بِءَایَةࣲ قَالُوا۟ لَوۡلَا ٱجۡتَبَیۡتَهَاۚ قُلۡ إِنَّمَاۤ أَتَّبِعُ مَا یُوحَىٰۤ إِلَیَّ مِن رَّبِّیۚ هَـٰذَا بَصَاۤىِٕرُ مِن رَّبِّكُمۡ وَهُدࣰى وَرَحۡمَةࣱ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٢٠٣

When you do not relate a verse to them, they say, “You should have made one up!” Say, “I follow only what is revealed to me from my Rabb... This (Quran) is an insight from your Rabb (enabling you to realize and comprehend), it is a guide (to the reality) and grace for a people who believe (it elevates and matures them).”

wa-idhā lam tatihim biāyatin qālū lawlā ij'tabaytahā qul innamā attabiʿu mā yūḥā ilayya min rabbī hādhā baṣāiru min rabbikum wahudan waraḥmatun liqawmin yu'minūn

وَإِذَا قُرِئَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانُ فَٱسۡتَمِعُوا۟ لَهُۥ وَأَنصِتُوا۟ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُرۡحَمُونَ ۝٢٠٤

When the Quran is recited, listen to it and be silent so that you may receive grace.

wa-idhā quri-a l-qur'ānu fa-is'tamiʿū lahu wa-anṣitū laʿallakum tur'ḥamūn

وَٱذۡكُر رَّبَّكَ فِی نَفۡسِكَ تَضَرُّعࣰا وَخِیفَةࣰ وَدُونَ ٱلۡجَهۡرِ مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡلِ بِٱلۡغُدُوِّ وَٱلۡءَاصَالِ وَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلۡغَـٰفِلِینَ ۝٢٠٥

Remember and contemplate in depth your Rabb in your self, by knowing your boundary, by feeling Him, and in a modest, confidential way, without raising your voice, in the morning and evening! Do not be of the heedless!

wa-udh'kur rabbaka fī nafsika taḍarruʿan wakhīfatan wadūna l-jahri mina l-qawli bil-ghuduwi wal-āṣāli walā takun mina l-ghāfilīn

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ عِندَ رَبِّكَ لَا یَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ عَنۡ عِبَادَتِهِۦ وَیُسَبِّحُونَهُۥ وَلَهُۥ یَ̅سۡ̅جُ̅دُ̅و̅نَ̅ ۝٢٠٦ ۩

Indeed, those who are with your Rabb never show arrogance and refrain from servitude... They continue their existence through Him (tasbih) and prostrate to Him (by feeling their nothingness in the sight of His Might). (This is a verse of prostration.)

inna alladhīna ʿinda rabbika lā yastakbirūna ʿan ʿibādatihi wayusabbiḥūnahu walahu yasjudūn
