وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَـٰكُمۡ ثُمَّ صَوَّرۡنَـٰكُمۡ ثُمَّ قُلۡنَا لِلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةِ ٱسۡجُدُوا۟ لِءَادَمَ فَسَجَدُوۤا۟ إِلَّاۤ إِبۡلِیسَ لَمۡ یَكُن مِّنَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِینَ ۝١١

Talal Itani (2012)

We created you, then We shaped you, then We said to the angels, 'Bow down before Adam;' so they bowed down, except for Satan; he was not of those who bowed down

walaqad khalaqnākum thumma ṣawwarnākum thumma qul'nā lil'malāikati us'judū liādama fasajadū illā ib'līsa lam yakun mina l-sājidīn

7:12

قَالَ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَلَّا تَسۡجُدَ إِذۡ أَمَرۡتُكَۖ قَالَ أَنَا۠ خَیۡرࣱ مِّنۡهُ خَلَقۡتَنِی مِن نَّارࣲ وَخَلَقۡتَهُۥ مِن طِینࣲ ۝١٢

Talal Itani (2012)

He said, 'What prevented you from bowing down when I have commanded you?' He said, 'I am better than he; You created me from fire, and You created him from mud.'

qāla mā manaʿaka allā tasjuda idh amartuka qāla anā khayrun min'hu khalaqtanī min nārin wakhalaqtahu min ṭīni

7:13

قَالَ فَٱهۡبِطۡ مِنۡهَا فَمَا یَكُونُ لَكَ أَن تَتَكَبَّرَ فِیهَا فَٱخۡرُجۡ إِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰغِرِینَ ۝١٣

Talal Itani (2012)

He said, 'Get down from it! It is not for you to act arrogantly in it. Get out! You are one of the lowly!'

qāla fa-ih'biṭ min'hā famā yakūnu laka an tatakabbara fīhā fa-ukh'ruj innaka mina l-ṣāghirīn

7:14

قَالَ أَنظِرۡنِیۤ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ یُبۡعَثُونَ ۝١٤

He said, 'Give me respite, until the Day they are resurrected.'

qāla anẓir'nī ilā yawmi yub'ʿathūn

7:15

قَالَ إِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُنظَرِینَ ۝١٥

He said, 'You are of those given respite.'

qāla innaka mina l-munẓarīn

7:16

قَالَ فَبِمَاۤ أَغۡوَیۡتَنِی لَأَقۡعُدَنَّ لَهُمۡ صِرَ ٰطَكَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِیمَ ۝١٦

Talal Itani (2012)

He said, 'Because you have lured me, I will waylay them on Your straight path

qāla fabimā aghwaytanī la-aqʿudanna lahum ṣirāṭaka l-mus'taqīm

7:17

ثُمَّ لَءَاتِیَنَّهُم مِّنۢ بَیۡنِ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ وَمِنۡ خَلۡفِهِمۡ وَعَنۡ أَیۡمَـٰنِهِمۡ وَعَن شَمَاۤىِٕلِهِمۡۖ وَلَا تَجِدُ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ شَـٰكِرِینَ ۝١٧

Talal Itani (2012)

Then I will come at them from before them, and from behind them, and from their right, and from their left; and you will not find most of them appreciative.'

thumma laātiyannahum min bayni aydīhim wamin khalfihim waʿan aymānihim waʿan shamāilihim walā tajidu aktharahum shākirīn

7:18

قَالَ ٱخۡرُجۡ مِنۡهَا مَذۡءُومࣰا مَّدۡحُورࣰاۖ لَّمَن تَبِعَكَ مِنۡهُمۡ لَأَمۡلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنكُمۡ أَجۡمَعِینَ ۝١٨

Talal Itani (2012)

He said, 'Get out of it, despised and vanquished. Whoever among them follows you—I will fill up Hell with you all

qāla ukh'ruj min'hā madhūman madḥūran laman tabiʿaka min'hum la-amla-anna jahannama minkum ajmaʿīn

7:19

وَیَـٰۤءَادَمُ ٱسۡكُنۡ أَنتَ وَزَوۡجُكَ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ فَكُلَا مِنۡ حَیۡثُ شِئۡتُمَا وَلَا تَقۡرَبَا هَـٰذِهِ ٱلشَّجَرَةَ فَتَكُونَا مِنَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝١٩

Talal Itani (2012)

And you, Adam, inhabit the Garden, you and your wife, and eat whatever you wish; but do not approach this tree, lest you become sinners.'

wayāādamu us'kun anta wazawjuka l-janata fakulā min ḥaythu shi'tumā walā taqrabā hādhihi l-shajarata fatakūnā mina l-ẓālimīn

7:20

فَوَسۡوَسَ لَهُمَا ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُ لِیُبۡدِیَ لَهُمَا مَا وُۥرِیَ عَنۡهُمَا مِن سَوۡءَ ٰتِهِمَا وَقَالَ مَا نَهَىٰكُمَا رَبُّكُمَا عَنۡ هَـٰذِهِ ٱلشَّجَرَةِ إِلَّاۤ أَن تَكُونَا مَلَكَیۡنِ أَوۡ تَكُونَا مِنَ ٱلۡخَـٰلِدِینَ ۝٢٠

Talal Itani (2012)

But Satan whispered to them, to reveal to them their nakedness, which was invisible to them. He said, 'Your Lord has only forbidden you this tree, lest you become angels, or become immortals.'

fawaswasa lahumā l-shayṭānu liyub'diya lahumā mā wūriya ʿanhumā min sawātihimā waqāla mā nahākumā rabbukumā ʿan hādhihi l-shajarati illā an takūnā malakayni aw takūnā mina l-khālidīn

7:21

وَقَاسَمَهُمَاۤ إِنِّی لَكُمَا لَمِنَ ٱلنَّـٰصِحِینَ ۝٢١

And he swore to them, 'I am a sincere advisor to you.'

waqāsamahumā innī lakumā lamina l-nāṣiḥīn

7:22

فَدَلَّىٰهُمَا بِغُرُورࣲۚ فَلَمَّا ذَاقَا ٱلشَّجَرَةَ بَدَتۡ لَهُمَا سَوۡءَ ٰتُهُمَا وَطَفِقَا یَخۡصِفَانِ عَلَیۡهِمَا مِن وَرَقِ ٱلۡجَنَّةِۖ وَنَادَىٰهُمَا رَبُّهُمَاۤ أَلَمۡ أَنۡهَكُمَا عَن تِلۡكُمَا ٱلشَّجَرَةِ وَأَقُل لَّكُمَاۤ إِنَّ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنَ لَكُمَا عَدُوࣱّ مُّبِینࣱ ۝٢٢

So he lured them with deceit. And when they tasted the tree, their nakedness became evident to them, and they began covering themselves with the leaves of the Garden. And their Lord called out to them, 'Did I not forbid you from this tree, and say to you that Satan is a sworn enemy to you?'

fadallāhumā bighurūrin falammā dhāqā l-shajarata badat lahumā sawātuhumā waṭafiqā yakhṣifāni ʿalayhimā min waraqi l-janati wanādāhumā rabbuhumā alam anhakumā ʿan til'kumā l-shajarati wa-aqul lakumā inna l-shayṭāna lakumā ʿaduwwun mubīnu

7:23

قَالَا رَبَّنَا ظَلَمۡنَاۤ أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمۡ تَغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَتَرۡحَمۡنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرِینَ ۝٢٣

Talal Itani (2012)

They said, 'Our Lord, we have done wrong to ourselves. Unless You forgive us, and have mercy on us, we will be among the losers.'

qālā rabbanā ẓalamnā anfusanā wa-in lam taghfir lanā watarḥamnā lanakūnanna mina l-khāsirīn

7:24

قَالَ ٱهۡبِطُوا۟ بَعۡضُكُمۡ لِبَعۡضٍ عَدُوࣱّۖ وَلَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مُسۡتَقَرࣱّ وَمَتَـٰعٌ إِلَىٰ حِینࣲ ۝٢٤

Talal Itani (2012)

He said, 'Fall, some of you enemies to one another. On earth you will have residence and livelihood for a while.'

qāla ih'biṭū baʿḍukum libaʿḍin ʿaduwwun walakum fī l-arḍi mus'taqarrun wamatāʿun ilā ḥīni

7:25

قَالَ فِیهَا تَحۡیَوۡنَ وَفِیهَا تَمُوتُونَ وَمِنۡهَا تُخۡرَجُونَ ۝٢٥

Talal Itani (2012)

He said, 'In it you will live, and in it you will die, and from it you will be brought out.'

qāla fīhā taḥyawna wafīhā tamūtūna wamin'hā tukh'rajūn

7:26

یَـٰبَنِیۤ ءَادَمَ قَدۡ أَنزَلۡنَا عَلَیۡكُمۡ لِبَاسࣰا یُوَ ٰرِی سَوۡءَ ٰتِكُمۡ وَرِیشࣰاۖ وَلِبَاسُ ٱلتَّقۡوَىٰ ذَ ٰلِكَ خَیۡرࣱۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ مِنۡ ءَایَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَذَّكَّرُونَ ۝٢٦

Talal Itani (2012)

O children of Adam! We have provided you with clothing to cover your bodies, and for luxury. But the clothing of piety—that is best. These are some of God's revelations, so that they may take heed

yābanī ādama qad anzalnā ʿalaykum libāsan yuwārī sawātikum warīshan walibāsu l-taqwā dhālika khayrun dhālika min āyāti l-lahi laʿallahum yadhakkarūn

7:27

یَـٰبَنِیۤ ءَادَمَ لَا یَفۡتِنَنَّكُمُ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُ كَمَاۤ أَخۡرَجَ أَبَوَیۡكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ یَنزِعُ عَنۡهُمَا لِبَاسَهُمَا لِیُرِیَهُمَا سَوۡءَ ٰتِهِمَاۤۚ إِنَّهُۥ یَرَىٰكُمۡ هُوَ وَقَبِیلُهُۥ مِنۡ حَیۡثُ لَا تَرَوۡنَهُمۡۗ إِنَّا جَعَلۡنَا ٱلشَّیَـٰطِینَ أَوۡلِیَاۤءَ لِلَّذِینَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٢٧

O Children of Adam! Do not let Satan seduce you, as he drove your parents out of the Garden, stripping them of their garments, to show them their nakedness. He sees you, him and his clan, from where you cannot see them. We have made the devils friends of those who do not believe

yābanī ādama lā yaftinannakumu l-shayṭānu kamā akhraja abawaykum mina l-janati yanziʿu ʿanhumā libāsahumā liyuriyahumā sawātihimā innahu yarākum huwa waqabīluhu min ḥaythu lā tarawnahum innā jaʿalnā l-shayāṭīna awliyāa lilladhīna lā yu'minūn

7:28

وَإِذَا فَعَلُوا۟ فَـٰحِشَةࣰ قَالُوا۟ وَجَدۡنَا عَلَیۡهَاۤ ءَابَاۤءَنَا وَٱللَّهُ أَمَرَنَا بِهَاۗ قُلۡ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا یَأۡمُرُ بِٱلۡفَحۡشَاۤءِۖ أَتَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٢٨

Talal Itani (2012)

And when they commit an indecency, they say, 'We found our parents doing this, and God has commanded us to do it.' Say, 'God does not command indecencies. Are you attributing to God what you do not know?'

wa-idhā faʿalū fāḥishatan qālū wajadnā ʿalayhā ābāanā wal-lahu amaranā bihā qul inna l-laha lā yamuru bil-faḥshāi ataqūlūna ʿalā l-lahi mā lā taʿlamūn

7:29

قُلۡ أَمَرَ رَبِّی بِٱلۡقِسۡطِۖ وَأَقِیمُوا۟ وُجُوهَكُمۡ عِندَ كُلِّ مَسۡجِدࣲ وَٱدۡعُوهُ مُخۡلِصِینَ لَهُ ٱلدِّینَۚ كَمَا بَدَأَكُمۡ تَعُودُونَ ۝٢٩

Talal Itani (2012)

Say, 'My Lord commands justice, and to stand devoted at every place of worship. So call upon Him, and dedicate your faith to Him alone. Just as He originated you, so you will return.'

qul amara rabbī bil-qis'ṭi wa-aqīmū wujūhakum ʿinda kulli masjidin wa-id'ʿūhu mukh'liṣīna lahu l-dīna kamā bada-akum taʿūdūn

7:30

فَرِیقًا هَدَىٰ وَفَرِیقًا حَقَّ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةُۚ إِنَّهُمُ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ ٱلشَّیَـٰطِینَ أَوۡلِیَاۤءَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَیَحۡسَبُونَ أَنَّهُم مُّهۡتَدُونَ ۝٣٠

Talal Itani (2012)

Some He has guided, and some have deserved misguidance. They have adopted the devils for patrons rather than God, and they assume that they are guided

farīqan hadā wafarīqan ḥaqqa ʿalayhimu l-ḍalālatu innahumu ittakhadhū l-shayāṭīna awliyāa min dūni l-lahi wayaḥsabūna annahum muh'tadūn

7:31

۞ یَـٰبَنِیۤ ءَادَمَ خُذُوا۟ زِینَتَكُمۡ عِندَ كُلِّ مَسۡجِدࣲ وَكُلُوا۟ وَٱشۡرَبُوا۟ وَلَا تُسۡرِفُوۤا۟ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا یُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِینَ ۝٣١

Talal Itani (2012)

O Children of Adam! Dress properly at every place of worship, and eat and drink, but do not be excessive. He does not love the excessive

yābanī ādama khudhū zīnatakum ʿinda kulli masjidin wakulū wa-ish'rabū walā tus'rifū innahu lā yuḥibbu l-mus'rifīn

7:32

قُلۡ مَنۡ حَرَّمَ زِینَةَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّتِیۤ أَخۡرَجَ لِعِبَادِهِۦ وَٱلطَّیِّبَـٰتِ مِنَ ٱلرِّزۡقِۚ قُلۡ هِیَ لِلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا خَالِصَةࣰ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِۗ كَذَ ٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ لِقَوۡمࣲ یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣٢

Talal Itani (2012)

Say, 'Who forbade God's finery which He has produced for His servants, and the delights of livelihood?' Say, 'They are for those who believe, in this present world, but exclusively theirs on the Day of Resurrection.' We thus detail the revelations for people who know

qul man ḥarrama zīnata l-lahi allatī akhraja liʿibādihi wal-ṭayibāti mina l-riz'qi qul hiya lilladhīna āmanū fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā khāliṣatan yawma l-qiyāmati kadhālika nufaṣṣilu l-āyāti liqawmin yaʿlamūn

7:33

قُلۡ إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ رَبِّیَ ٱلۡفَوَ ٰحِشَ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنۡهَا وَمَا بَطَنَ وَٱلۡإِثۡمَ وَٱلۡبَغۡیَ بِغَیۡرِ ٱلۡحَقِّ وَأَن تُشۡرِكُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ مَا لَمۡ یُنَزِّلۡ بِهِۦ سُلۡطَـٰنࣰا وَأَن تَقُولُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣٣

Talal Itani (2012)

Say, 'My Lord has forbidden immoralities—both open and secret—and sin, and unjustified aggression, and that you associate with God anything for which He revealed no sanction, and that you say about God what you do not know.'

qul innamā ḥarrama rabbiya l-fawāḥisha mā ẓahara min'hā wamā baṭana wal-ith'ma wal-baghya bighayri l-ḥaqi wa-an tush'rikū bil-lahi mā lam yunazzil bihi sul'ṭānan wa-an taqūlū ʿalā l-lahi mā lā taʿlamūn

7:34

وَلِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلࣱۖ فَإِذَا جَاۤءَ أَجَلُهُمۡ لَا یَسۡتَأۡخِرُونَ سَاعَةࣰ وَلَا یَسۡتَقۡدِمُونَ ۝٣٤

Talal Itani (2012)

For every nation is an appointed time. When their time has come, they cannot delay it by one hour, nor can they advance it

walikulli ummatin ajalun fa-idhā jāa ajaluhum lā yastakhirūna sāʿatan walā yastaqdimūn

7:35

یَـٰبَنِیۤ ءَادَمَ إِمَّا یَأۡتِیَنَّكُمۡ رُسُلࣱ مِّنكُمۡ یَقُصُّونَ عَلَیۡكُمۡ ءَایَـٰتِی فَمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰ وَأَصۡلَحَ فَلَا خَوۡفٌ عَلَیۡهِمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ یَحۡزَنُونَ ۝٣٥

Talal Itani (2012)

O Children of Adam! When messengers from among you come to you, relating to you My revelations—whoever practices piety and reforms—upon them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve

yābanī ādama immā yatiyannakum rusulun minkum yaquṣṣūna ʿalaykum āyātī famani ittaqā wa-aṣlaḥa falā khawfun ʿalayhim walā hum yaḥzanūn

7:36

وَٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ عَنۡهَاۤ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِۖ هُمۡ فِیهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝٣٦

Talal Itani (2012)

But as for those who reject Our revelations, and are too proud to accept them—these are the inmates of the Fire, where they will remain forever

wa-alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā wa-is'takbarū ʿanhā ulāika aṣḥābu l-nāri hum fīhā khālidūn

7:37

فَمَنۡ أَظۡلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفۡتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا أَوۡ كَذَّبَ بِءَایَـٰتِهِۦۤۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ یَنَالُهُمۡ نَصِیبُهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِۖ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا جَاۤءَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُنَا یَتَوَفَّوۡنَهُمۡ قَالُوۤا۟ أَیۡنَ مَا كُنتُمۡ تَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِۖ قَالُوا۟ ضَلُّوا۟ عَنَّا وَشَهِدُوا۟ عَلَىٰۤ أَنفُسِهِمۡ أَنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ كَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٣٧

Talal Itani (2012)

Who does greater wrong than he who invents lies about God, or denies His revelations? These—their share of the decree will reach them. Until, when Our envoys come to them, to take their souls away, they will say, 'Where are they whom you used to pray to besides God?' They will say, 'They have abandoned us,' and they will testify against themselves that they were faithless

faman aẓlamu mimmani if'tarā ʿalā l-lahi kadhiban aw kadhaba biāyātihi ulāika yanāluhum naṣībuhum mina l-kitābi ḥattā idhā jāathum rusulunā yatawaffawnahum qālū ayna mā kuntum tadʿūna min dūni l-lahi qālū ḍallū ʿannā washahidū ʿalā anfusihim annahum kānū kāfirīn

7:38

قَالَ ٱدۡخُلُوا۟ فِیۤ أُمَمࣲ قَدۡ خَلَتۡ مِن قَبۡلِكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ وَٱلۡإِنسِ فِی ٱلنَّارِۖ كُلَّمَا دَخَلَتۡ أُمَّةࣱ لَّعَنَتۡ أُخۡتَهَاۖ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَا ٱدَّارَكُوا۟ فِیهَا جَمِیعࣰا قَالَتۡ أُخۡرَىٰهُمۡ لِأُولَىٰهُمۡ رَبَّنَا هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ أَضَلُّونَا فَءَاتِهِمۡ عَذَابࣰا ضِعۡفࣰا مِّنَ ٱلنَّارِۖ قَالَ لِكُلࣲّ ضِعۡفࣱ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٣٨

Talal Itani (2012)

He will say, 'Join the crowds of jinn and humans who have gone into the Fire before you.' Every time a crowd enters, it will curse its sister-crowd. Until, when they are all in it, the last of them will say to the first of them, 'Our Lord, these are the ones who misled us, so inflict on them a double punishment in the Fire.' He will say, 'Each will have a double, but you do not know.'

qāla ud'khulū fī umamin qad khalat min qablikum mina l-jini wal-insi fī l-nāri kullamā dakhalat ummatun laʿanat ukh'tahā ḥattā idhā iddārakū fīhā jamīʿan qālat ukh'rāhum liūlāhum rabbanā hāulāi aḍallūnā faātihim ʿadhāban ḍiʿ'fan mina l-nāri qāla likullin ḍiʿ'fun walākin lā taʿlamūn

7:39

وَقَالَتۡ أُولَىٰهُمۡ لِأُخۡرَىٰهُمۡ فَمَا كَانَ لَكُمۡ عَلَیۡنَا مِن فَضۡلࣲ فَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَكۡسِبُونَ ۝٣٩

Talal Itani (2012)

The first of them will say to the last of them, 'You have no advantage over us, so taste the torment for what you used to earn.'

waqālat ūlāhum li-ukh'rāhum famā kāna lakum ʿalaynā min faḍlin fadhūqū l-ʿadhāba bimā kuntum taksibūn

7:40

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ عَنۡهَا لَا تُفَتَّحُ لَهُمۡ أَبۡوَ ٰبُ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ وَلَا یَدۡخُلُونَ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ حَتَّىٰ یَلِجَ ٱلۡجَمَلُ فِی سَمِّ ٱلۡخِیَاطِۚ وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ ۝٤٠

Talal Itani (2012)

Those who reject Our revelations and are too arrogant to uphold them—the doors of Heaven will not be opened for them, nor will they enter Paradise, until the camel passes through the eye of the needle. Thus We repay the guilty

inna alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā wa-is'takbarū ʿanhā lā tufattaḥu lahum abwābu l-samāi walā yadkhulūna l-janata ḥattā yalija l-jamalu fī sammi l-khiyāṭi wakadhālika najzī l-muj'rimīn

7:41

لَهُم مِّن جَهَنَّمَ مِهَادࣱ وَمِن فَوۡقِهِمۡ غَوَاشࣲۚ وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٤١

Talal Itani (2012)

For them is a couch of hell, and above them are sheets of fire. Thus We repay the wrongdoers

lahum min jahannama mihādun wamin fawqihim ghawāshin wakadhālika najzī l-ẓālimīn

7:42

وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفۡسًا إِلَّا وُسۡعَهَاۤ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡجَنَّةِۖ هُمۡ فِیهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ ۝٤٢

Talal Itani (2012)

As for those who believe and do righteous works—We never burden any soul beyond its capacity—these are the inhabitants of the Garden; abiding therein eternally

wa-alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti lā nukallifu nafsan illā wus'ʿahā ulāika aṣḥābu l-janati hum fīhā khālidūn

7:43

وَنَزَعۡنَا مَا فِی صُدُورِهِم مِّنۡ غِلࣲّ تَجۡرِی مِن تَحۡتِهِمُ ٱلۡأَنۡهَـٰرُۖ وَقَالُوا۟ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِی هَدَىٰنَا لِهَـٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لِنَهۡتَدِیَ لَوۡلَاۤ أَنۡ هَدَىٰنَا ٱللَّهُۖ لَقَدۡ جَاۤءَتۡ رُسُلُ رَبِّنَا بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ وَنُودُوۤا۟ أَن تِلۡكُمُ ٱلۡجَنَّةُ أُورِثۡتُمُوهَا بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝٤٣

Talal Itani (2012)

We will remove whatever rancor is in their hearts. Rivers will flow beneath them. And they will say, 'Praise be to God, who has guided us to this. Had God not guided us, we would never be guided. The messengers of our Lord did come with the truth.' And it will be proclaimed to them, 'This is the Garden you are made to inherit, on account of what you used to do.'

wanazaʿnā mā fī ṣudūrihim min ghillin tajrī min taḥtihimu l-anhāru waqālū l-ḥamdu lillahi alladhī hadānā lihādhā wamā kunnā linahtadiya lawlā an hadānā l-lahu laqad jāat rusulu rabbinā bil-ḥaqi wanūdū an til'kumu l-janatu ūrith'tumūhā bimā kuntum taʿmalūn

7:44

وَنَادَىٰۤ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ أَصۡحَـٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ أَن قَدۡ وَجَدۡنَا مَا وَعَدَنَا رَبُّنَا حَقࣰّا فَهَلۡ وَجَدتُّم مَّا وَعَدَ رَبُّكُمۡ حَقࣰّاۖ قَالُوا۟ نَعَمۡۚ فَأَذَّنَ مُؤَذِّنُۢ بَیۡنَهُمۡ أَن لَّعۡنَةُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَى ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٤٤

Talal Itani (2012)

And the inhabitants of the Garden will call out to the inmates of the Fire, 'We found what our Lord promised us to be true; did you find what your Lord promised you to be true?' They will say, 'Yes.' Thereupon a caller will announce in their midst, 'The curse of God is upon the wrongdoers.'

wanādā aṣḥābu l-janati aṣḥāba l-nāri an qad wajadnā mā waʿadanā rabbunā ḥaqqan fahal wajadttum mā waʿada rabbukum ḥaqqan qālū naʿam fa-adhana mu-adhinun baynahum an laʿnatu l-lahi ʿalā l-ẓālimīn

7:45

ٱلَّذِینَ یَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ وَیَبۡغُونَهَا عِوَجࣰا وَهُم بِٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ كَـٰفِرُونَ ۝٤٥

Talal Itani (2012)

'Those who hinder from the path of God, and seek to distort it, and who deny the Hereafter.'

alladhīna yaṣuddūna ʿan sabīli l-lahi wayabghūnahā ʿiwajan wahum bil-ākhirati kāfirūn

7:46

وَبَیۡنَهُمَا حِجَابࣱۚ وَعَلَى ٱلۡأَعۡرَافِ رِجَالࣱ یَعۡرِفُونَ كُلَّۢا بِسِیمَىٰهُمۡۚ وَنَادَوۡا۟ أَصۡحَـٰبَ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ أَن سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَیۡكُمۡۚ لَمۡ یَدۡخُلُوهَا وَهُمۡ یَطۡمَعُونَ ۝٤٦

Talal Itani (2012)

And between them is a partition, and on the Elevations are men who recognize everyone by their features. They will call to the inhabitants of the Garden, 'Peace be upon you.' They have not entered it, but they are hoping

wabaynahumā ḥijābun waʿalā l-aʿrāfi rijālun yaʿrifūna kullan bisīmāhum wanādaw aṣḥāba l-janati an salāmun ʿalaykum lam yadkhulūhā wahum yaṭmaʿūn

7:47

۞ وَإِذَا صُرِفَتۡ أَبۡصَـٰرُهُمۡ تِلۡقَاۤءَ أَصۡحَـٰبِ ٱلنَّارِ قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا لَا تَجۡعَلۡنَا مَعَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝٤٧

Talal Itani (2012)

And when their eyes are directed towards the inmates of the Fire, they will say, 'Our Lord, do not place us among the wrongdoing people.'

wa-idhā ṣurifat abṣāruhum til'qāa aṣḥābi l-nāri qālū rabbanā lā tajʿalnā maʿa l-qawmi l-ẓālimīn

7:48

وَنَادَىٰۤ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلۡأَعۡرَافِ رِجَالࣰا یَعۡرِفُونَهُم بِسِیمَىٰهُمۡ قَالُوا۟ مَاۤ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنكُمۡ جَمۡعُكُمۡ وَمَا كُنتُمۡ تَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ ۝٤٨

Talal Itani (2012)

And the dwellers of the Elevations will call to men they recognize by their features, saying, 'Your hoardings did not avail you, nor did your arrogance.'

wanādā aṣḥābu l-aʿrāfi rijālan yaʿrifūnahum bisīmāhum qālū mā aghnā ʿankum jamʿukum wamā kuntum tastakbirūn

7:49

أَهَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ ٱلَّذِینَ أَقۡسَمۡتُمۡ لَا یَنَالُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِرَحۡمَةٍۚ ٱدۡخُلُوا۟ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ لَا خَوۡفٌ عَلَیۡكُمۡ وَلَاۤ أَنتُمۡ تَحۡزَنُونَ ۝٤٩

Talal Itani (2012)

'Are these the ones you swore God will not touch with mercy?' 'Enter the Garden; you have nothing to fear, and you will not grieve.'

ahāulāi alladhīna aqsamtum lā yanāluhumu l-lahu biraḥmatin ud'khulū l-janata lā khawfun ʿalaykum walā antum taḥzanūn

7:50

وَنَادَىٰۤ أَصۡحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ أَصۡحَـٰبَ ٱلۡجَنَّةِ أَنۡ أَفِیضُوا۟ عَلَیۡنَا مِنَ ٱلۡمَاۤءِ أَوۡ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُۚ قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ حَرَّمَهُمَا عَلَى ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٥٠

Talal Itani (2012)

The inmates of the Fire will call on the inhabitants of the Garden, 'Pour some water over us, or some of what God has provided for you.' They will say, 'God has forbidden them for the disbelievers.'

wanādā aṣḥābu l-nāri aṣḥāba l-janati an afīḍū ʿalaynā mina l-māi aw mimmā razaqakumu l-lahu qālū inna l-laha ḥarramahumā ʿalā l-kāfirīn

7:51

ٱلَّذِینَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ دِینَهُمۡ لَهۡوࣰا وَلَعِبࣰا وَغَرَّتۡهُمُ ٱلۡحَیَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡیَاۚ فَٱلۡیَوۡمَ نَنسَىٰهُمۡ كَمَا نَسُوا۟ لِقَاۤءَ یَوۡمِهِمۡ هَـٰذَا وَمَا كَانُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا یَجۡحَدُونَ ۝٥١

Talal Itani (2012)

Those who took their religion lightly, and in jest, and whom the worldly life deceived. Today We will ignore them, as they ignored the meeting on this Day of theirs, and they used to deny Our revelations

alladhīna ittakhadhū dīnahum lahwan walaʿiban wagharrathumu l-ḥayatu l-dun'yā fal-yawma nansāhum kamā nasū liqāa yawmihim hādhā wamā kānū biāyātinā yajḥadūn

7:52

وَلَقَدۡ جِئۡنَـٰهُم بِكِتَـٰبࣲ فَصَّلۡنَـٰهُ عَلَىٰ عِلۡمٍ هُدࣰى وَرَحۡمَةࣰ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٥٢

We have given them a Scripture, which We detailed with knowledge—guidance and mercy for people who believe

walaqad ji'nāhum bikitābin faṣṣalnāhu ʿalā ʿil'min hudan waraḥmatan liqawmin yu'minūn

7:53

هَلۡ یَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا تَأۡوِیلَهُۥۚ یَوۡمَ یَأۡتِی تَأۡوِیلُهُۥ یَقُولُ ٱلَّذِینَ نَسُوهُ مِن قَبۡلُ قَدۡ جَاۤءَتۡ رُسُلُ رَبِّنَا بِٱلۡحَقِّ فَهَل لَّنَا مِن شُفَعَاۤءَ فَیَشۡفَعُوا۟ لَنَاۤ أَوۡ نُرَدُّ فَنَعۡمَلَ غَیۡرَ ٱلَّذِی كُنَّا نَعۡمَلُۚ قَدۡ خَسِرُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ وَضَلَّ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ یَفۡتَرُونَ ۝٥٣

Are they waiting for anything but its fulfillment? The Day its fulfillment comes true, those who disregarded it before will say, 'The messengers of our Lord did come with the truth. Have we any intercessors to intercede for us? Or, could we be sent back, to behave differently from the way we behaved before?' They ruined their souls, and what they used to invent has failed them

hal yanẓurūna illā tawīlahu yawma yatī tawīluhu yaqūlu alladhīna nasūhu min qablu qad jāat rusulu rabbinā bil-ḥaqi fahal lanā min shufaʿāa fayashfaʿū lanā aw nuraddu fanaʿmala ghayra alladhī kunnā naʿmalu qad khasirū anfusahum waḍalla ʿanhum mā kānū yaftarūn

7:54

إِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ فِی سِتَّةِ أَیَّامࣲ ثُمَّ ٱسۡتَوَىٰ عَلَى ٱلۡعَرۡشِۖ یُغۡشِی ٱلَّیۡلَ ٱلنَّهَارَ یَطۡلُبُهُۥ حَثِیثࣰا وَٱلشَّمۡسَ وَٱلۡقَمَرَ وَٱلنُّجُومَ مُسَخَّرَ ٰتِۭ بِأَمۡرِهِۦۤۗ أَلَا لَهُ ٱلۡخَلۡقُ وَٱلۡأَمۡرُۗ تَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٥٤

Talal Itani (2012)

Your Lord is God; He who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then established Himself on the Throne. The night overtakes the day, as it pursues it persistently; and the sun, and the moon, and the stars are subservient by His command. His is the creation, and His is the command. Blessed is God, Lord of all beings

inna rabbakumu l-lahu alladhī khalaqa l-samāwāti wal-arḍa fī sittati ayyāmin thumma is'tawā ʿalā l-ʿarshi yugh'shī al-layla l-nahāra yaṭlubuhu ḥathīthan wal-shamsa wal-qamara wal-nujūma musakharātin bi-amrihi alā lahu l-khalqu wal-amru tabāraka l-lahu rabbu l-ʿālamīn

7:55

ٱدۡعُوا۟ رَبَّكُمۡ تَضَرُّعࣰا وَخُفۡیَةًۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا یُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُعۡتَدِینَ ۝٥٥

Talal Itani (2012)

Call upon your Lord humbly and privately. He does not love the aggressors

id'ʿū rabbakum taḍarruʿan wakhuf'yatan innahu lā yuḥibbu l-muʿ'tadīn

7:56

وَلَا تُفۡسِدُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ بَعۡدَ إِصۡلَـٰحِهَا وَٱدۡعُوهُ خَوۡفࣰا وَطَمَعًاۚ إِنَّ رَحۡمَتَ ٱللَّهِ قَرِیبࣱ مِّنَ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝٥٦

Talal Itani (2012)

And do not corrupt on earth after its reformation, and pray to Him with fear and hope. God's mercy is close to the doers of good

walā tuf'sidū fī l-arḍi baʿda iṣ'lāḥihā wa-id'ʿūhu khawfan waṭamaʿan inna raḥmata l-lahi qarībun mina l-muḥ'sinīn

7:57

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِی یُرۡسِلُ ٱلرِّیَـٰحَ بُشۡرَۢا بَیۡنَ یَدَیۡ رَحۡمَتِهِۦۖ حَتَّىٰۤ إِذَاۤ أَقَلَّتۡ سَحَابࣰا ثِقَالࣰا سُقۡنَـٰهُ لِبَلَدࣲ مَّیِّتࣲ فَأَنزَلۡنَا بِهِ ٱلۡمَاۤءَ فَأَخۡرَجۡنَا بِهِۦ مِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ نُخۡرِجُ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَذَكَّرُونَ ۝٥٧

Talal Itani (2012)

It is He who sends the wind ahead of His mercy. Then, when they have gathered up heavy clouds, We drive them to a dead land, where We make water come down, and with it We bring out all kinds of fruits. Thus We bring out the dead—perhaps you will reflect

wahuwa alladhī yur'silu l-riyāḥa bush'ran bayna yaday raḥmatihi ḥattā idhā aqallat saḥāban thiqālan suq'nāhu libaladin mayyitin fa-anzalnā bihi l-māa fa-akhrajnā bihi min kulli l-thamarāti kadhālika nukh'riju l-mawtā laʿallakum tadhakkarūn

7:58

وَٱلۡبَلَدُ ٱلطَّیِّبُ یَخۡرُجُ نَبَاتُهُۥ بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِۦۖ وَٱلَّذِی خَبُثَ لَا یَخۡرُجُ إِلَّا نَكِدࣰاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ نُصَرِّفُ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ لِقَوۡمࣲ یَشۡكُرُونَ ۝٥٨

Talal Itani (2012)

As for the good land, it yields its produce by the leave of its Lord. But as for the bad, it produces nothing but hardship and misery. Thus We explain the revelations in various ways for people who are thankful

wal-baladu l-ṭayibu yakhruju nabātuhu bi-idh'ni rabbihi wa-alladhī khabutha lā yakhruju illā nakidan kadhālika nuṣarrifu l-āyāti liqawmin yashkurūn

7:59

لَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦ فَقَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَـٰهٍ غَیۡرُهُۥۤ إِنِّیۤ أَخَافُ عَلَیۡكُمۡ عَذَابَ یَوۡمٍ عَظِیمࣲ ۝٥٩

Talal Itani (2012)

We sent Noah to his people. He said, 'O my people! Worship God; you have no god other than Him. I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous Day.'

laqad arsalnā nūḥan ilā qawmihi faqāla yāqawmi uʿ'budū l-laha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruhu innī akhāfu ʿalaykum ʿadhāba yawmin ʿaẓīmi

7:60

قَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦۤ إِنَّا لَنَرَىٰكَ فِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ مُّبِینࣲ ۝٦٠

Talal Itani (2012)

The dignitaries among his people said, 'We see that you are in obvious error.'

qāla l-mala-u min qawmihi innā lanarāka fī ḍalālin mubīni

7:61

قَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ لَیۡسَ بِی ضَلَـٰلَةࣱ وَلَـٰكِنِّی رَسُولࣱ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٦١

Talal Itani (2012)

He said, 'O my people, I am not in error, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the Worlds.'

qāla yāqawmi laysa bī ḍalālatun walākinnī rasūlun min rabbi l-ʿālamīn

7:62

أُبَلِّغُكُمۡ رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ رَبِّی وَأَنصَحُ لَكُمۡ وَأَعۡلَمُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝٦٢

Talal Itani (2012)

'I deliver to you the messages of my Lord, and I advise you, and I know from God what you do not know.'

uballighukum risālāti rabbī wa-anṣaḥu lakum wa-aʿlamu mina l-lahi mā lā taʿlamūn

7:63

أَوَعَجِبۡتُمۡ أَن جَاۤءَكُمۡ ذِكۡرࣱ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ عَلَىٰ رَجُلࣲ مِّنكُمۡ لِیُنذِرَكُمۡ وَلِتَتَّقُوا۟ وَلَعَلَّكُمۡ تُرۡحَمُونَ ۝٦٣

Talal Itani (2012)

'Do you wonder that a reminder has come to you from your Lord, through a man from among you, to warn you, and to lead you to righteousness, so that you may attain mercy?'

awaʿajib'tum an jāakum dhik'run min rabbikum ʿalā rajulin minkum liyundhirakum walitattaqū walaʿallakum tur'ḥamūn

7:64

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَنجَیۡنَـٰهُ وَٱلَّذِینَ مَعَهُۥ فِی ٱلۡفُلۡكِ وَأَغۡرَقۡنَا ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَاۤۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ قَوۡمًا عَمِینَ ۝٦٤

Talal Itani (2012)

But they called him a liar. So We saved him and those with him in the Ark, and We drowned those who rejected Our revelations. They were blind people

fakadhabūhu fa-anjaynāhu wa-alladhīna maʿahu fī l-ful'ki wa-aghraqnā alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā innahum kānū qawman ʿamīn

7:65

۞ وَإِلَىٰ عَادٍ أَخَاهُمۡ هُودࣰاۚ قَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَـٰهٍ غَیۡرُهُۥۤۚ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ۝٦٥

Talal Itani (2012)

And to Aad, their brother Hud. He said, 'O my people! Worship God; you have no god other than Him. Will you not take heed?'

wa-ilā ʿādin akhāhum hūdan qāla yāqawmi uʿ'budū l-laha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruhu afalā tattaqūn

7:66

قَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦۤ إِنَّا لَنَرَىٰكَ فِی سَفَاهَةࣲ وَإِنَّا لَنَظُنُّكَ مِنَ ٱلۡكَـٰذِبِینَ ۝٦٦

Talal Itani (2012)

The elite of his people who disbelieved said, 'We see foolishness in you, and we think that you are a liar.'

qāla l-mala-u alladhīna kafarū min qawmihi innā lanarāka fī safāhatin wa-innā lanaẓunnuka mina l-kādhibīn

7:67

قَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ لَیۡسَ بِی سَفَاهَةࣱ وَلَـٰكِنِّی رَسُولࣱ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٦٧

Talal Itani (2012)

He said, 'O my people! There is no foolishness in me, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the Worlds

qāla yāqawmi laysa bī safāhatun walākinnī rasūlun min rabbi l-ʿālamīn

7:68

أُبَلِّغُكُمۡ رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ رَبِّی وَأَنَا۠ لَكُمۡ نَاصِحٌ أَمِینٌ ۝٦٨

Talal Itani (2012)

'I convey to you the messages of my Lord, and I am a trustworthy adviser to you.'

uballighukum risālāti rabbī wa-anā lakum nāṣiḥun amīnu

7:69

أَوَعَجِبۡتُمۡ أَن جَاۤءَكُمۡ ذِكۡرࣱ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ عَلَىٰ رَجُلࣲ مِّنكُمۡ لِیُنذِرَكُمۡۚ وَٱذۡكُرُوۤا۟ إِذۡ جَعَلَكُمۡ خُلَفَاۤءَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ قَوۡمِ نُوحࣲ وَزَادَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡخَلۡقِ بَصۜۡطَةࣰۖ فَٱذۡكُرُوۤا۟ ءَالَاۤءَ ٱللَّهِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُفۡلِحُونَ ۝٦٩

Talal Itani (2012)

'Are you surprised that a reminder has come to you from your Lord, through a man from among you, to warn you? Remember how He made you successors after the people of Noah, and increased you greatly in stature. And remember God's blessings, so that you may prosper.'

awaʿajib'tum an jāakum dhik'run min rabbikum ʿalā rajulin minkum liyundhirakum wa-udh'kurū idh jaʿalakum khulafāa min baʿdi qawmi nūḥin wazādakum fī l-khalqi baṣ'ṭatan fa-udh'kurū ālāa l-lahi laʿallakum tuf'liḥūn

7:70

قَالُوۤا۟ أَجِئۡتَنَا لِنَعۡبُدَ ٱللَّهَ وَحۡدَهُۥ وَنَذَرَ مَا كَانَ یَعۡبُدُ ءَابَاۤؤُنَا فَأۡتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَاۤ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِینَ ۝٧٠

Talal Itani (2012)

They said, 'Did you come to us to make us worship God alone, and abandon what our ancestors used to worship? Then bring us what you threaten us with, if you are truthful.'

qālū aji'tanā linaʿbuda l-laha waḥdahu wanadhara mā kāna yaʿbudu ābāunā fatinā bimā taʿidunā in kunta mina l-ṣādiqīn

7:71

قَالَ قَدۡ وَقَعَ عَلَیۡكُم مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ رِجۡسࣱ وَغَضَبٌۖ أَتُجَـٰدِلُونَنِی فِیۤ أَسۡمَاۤءࣲ سَمَّیۡتُمُوهَاۤ أَنتُمۡ وَءَابَاۤؤُكُم مَّا نَزَّلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلۡطَـٰنࣲۚ فَٱنتَظِرُوۤا۟ إِنِّی مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡمُنتَظِرِینَ ۝٧١

Talal Itani (2012)

He said, 'Condemnation and wrath have befallen you from your Lord. Are you arguing with me over names, which you and your ancestors invented, for which God sent down no authority? Just wait; I am waiting with you.'

qāla qad waqaʿa ʿalaykum min rabbikum rij'sun waghaḍabun atujādilūnanī fī asmāin sammaytumūhā antum waābāukum mā nazzala l-lahu bihā min sul'ṭānin fa-intaẓirū innī maʿakum mina l-muntaẓirīn

7:72

فَأَنجَیۡنَـٰهُ وَٱلَّذِینَ مَعَهُۥ بِرَحۡمَةࣲ مِّنَّا وَقَطَعۡنَا دَابِرَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَاۖ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٧٢

Talal Itani (2012)

So We saved him and those with him, by mercy from Us, and We cut off the roots of those who rejected Our revelations and were not believers

fa-anjaynāhu wa-alladhīna maʿahu biraḥmatin minnā waqaṭaʿnā dābira alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā wamā kānū mu'minīn

7:73

وَإِلَىٰ ثَمُودَ أَخَاهُمۡ صَـٰلِحࣰاۚ قَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَـٰهٍ غَیۡرُهُۥۖ قَدۡ جَاۤءَتۡكُم بَیِّنَةࣱ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡۖ هَـٰذِهِۦ نَاقَةُ ٱللَّهِ لَكُمۡ ءَایَةࣰۖ فَذَرُوهَا تَأۡكُلۡ فِیۤ أَرۡضِ ٱللَّهِۖ وَلَا تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوۤءࣲ فَیَأۡخُذَكُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِیمࣱ ۝٧٣

Talal Itani (2012)

And to Thamood, their brother Saleh. He said, 'O my people! Worship God; you have no god other than Him. Clarification has come to you from your Lord. This she-camel of God is a sign for you. So leave her to graze on God's earth, and do her no harm, lest a painful penalty seizes you.'

wa-ilā thamūda akhāhum ṣāliḥan qāla yāqawmi uʿ'budū l-laha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruhu qad jāatkum bayyinatun min rabbikum hādhihi nāqatu l-lahi lakum āyatan fadharūhā takul fī arḍi l-lahi walā tamassūhā bisūin fayakhudhakum ʿadhābun alīmu

7:74

وَٱذۡكُرُوۤا۟ إِذۡ جَعَلَكُمۡ خُلَفَاۤءَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ عَادࣲ وَبَوَّأَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ تَتَّخِذُونَ مِن سُهُولِهَا قُصُورࣰا وَتَنۡحِتُونَ ٱلۡجِبَالَ بُیُوتࣰاۖ فَٱذۡكُرُوۤا۟ ءَالَاۤءَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا تَعۡثَوۡا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مُفۡسِدِینَ ۝٧٤

Talal Itani (2012)

'And remember how He made you successors after Aad, and settled you in the land. You make for yourselves mansions on its plains, and carve out dwellings in the mountains. So remember God's benefits, and do not roam the earth corruptingly.'

wa-udh'kurū idh jaʿalakum khulafāa min baʿdi ʿādin wabawwa-akum fī l-arḍi tattakhidhūna min suhūlihā quṣūran watanḥitūna l-jibāla buyūtan fa-udh'kurū ālāa l-lahi walā taʿthaw fī l-arḍi muf'sidīn

7:75

قَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ لِلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتُضۡعِفُوا۟ لِمَنۡ ءَامَنَ مِنۡهُمۡ أَتَعۡلَمُونَ أَنَّ صَـٰلِحࣰا مُّرۡسَلࣱ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦۚ قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّا بِمَاۤ أُرۡسِلَ بِهِۦ مُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٧٥

Talal Itani (2012)

The elite of his people, who were arrogant, said to the common people who had believed, 'Do you know that Saleh is sent from his Lord?' They said, 'We are believers in what he was sent with.'

qāla l-mala-u alladhīna is'takbarū min qawmihi lilladhīna us'tuḍ'ʿifū liman āmana min'hum ataʿlamūna anna ṣāliḥan mur'salun min rabbihi qālū innā bimā ur'sila bihi mu'minūn

7:76

قَالَ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوۤا۟ إِنَّا بِٱلَّذِیۤ ءَامَنتُم بِهِۦ كَـٰفِرُونَ ۝٧٦

Talal Itani (2012)

Those who were arrogant said, 'We reject what you believe in.'

qāla alladhīna is'takbarū innā bi-alladhī āmantum bihi kāfirūn

7:77

فَعَقَرُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةَ وَعَتَوۡا۟ عَنۡ أَمۡرِ رَبِّهِمۡ وَقَالُوا۟ یَـٰصَـٰلِحُ ٱئۡتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَاۤ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ ۝٧٧

Talal Itani (2012)

So they hamstrung the she-camel, and defied the command of their Lord, and said, 'O Saleh, bring upon us what you threaten us with, if you are one of the messengers.'

faʿaqarū l-nāqata waʿataw ʿan amri rabbihim waqālū yāṣāliḥu i'tinā bimā taʿidunā in kunta mina l-mur'salīn

7:78

فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلرَّجۡفَةُ فَأَصۡبَحُوا۟ فِی دَارِهِمۡ جَـٰثِمِینَ ۝٧٨

Whereupon the quake overtook them, and they became lifeless bodies in their homes.

fa-akhadhathumu l-rajfatu fa-aṣbaḥū fī dārihim jāthimīn

7:79

فَتَوَلَّىٰ عَنۡهُمۡ وَقَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ لَقَدۡ أَبۡلَغۡتُكُمۡ رِسَالَةَ رَبِّی وَنَصَحۡتُ لَكُمۡ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُحِبُّونَ ٱلنَّـٰصِحِینَ ۝٧٩

Talal Itani (2012)

Then he turned away from them, and said, 'O my people, I have delivered to you the message of my Lord, and I have advised you, but you do not like those who give advice.'

fatawallā ʿanhum waqāla yāqawmi laqad ablaghtukum risālata rabbī wanaṣaḥtu lakum walākin lā tuḥibbūna l-nāṣiḥīn

7:80

وَلُوطًا إِذۡ قَالَ لِقَوۡمِهِۦۤ أَتَأۡتُونَ ٱلۡفَـٰحِشَةَ مَا سَبَقَكُم بِهَا مِنۡ أَحَدࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝٨٠

Talal Itani (2012)

And Lot, when he said to his people, 'Do you commit lewdness no people anywhere have ever committed before you?'

walūṭan idh qāla liqawmihi atatūna l-fāḥishata mā sabaqakum bihā min aḥadin mina l-ʿālamīn

7:81

إِنَّكُمۡ لَتَأۡتُونَ ٱلرِّجَالَ شَهۡوَةࣰ مِّن دُونِ ٱلنِّسَاۤءِۚ بَلۡ أَنتُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ مُّسۡرِفُونَ ۝٨١

Talal Itani (2012)

'You lust after men rather than women. You are an excessive people.'

innakum latatūna l-rijāla shahwatan min dūni l-nisāi bal antum qawmun mus'rifūn

7:82

وَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوۡمِهِۦۤ إِلَّاۤ أَن قَالُوۤا۟ أَخۡرِجُوهُم مِّن قَرۡیَتِكُمۡۖ إِنَّهُمۡ أُنَاسࣱ یَتَطَهَّرُونَ ۝٨٢

Talal Itani (2012)

And his people's only answer was to say, 'Expel them from your town; they are purist people.'

wamā kāna jawāba qawmihi illā an qālū akhrijūhum min qaryatikum innahum unāsun yataṭahharūn

7:83

فَأَنجَیۡنَـٰهُ وَأَهۡلَهُۥۤ إِلَّا ٱمۡرَأَتَهُۥ كَانَتۡ مِنَ ٱلۡغَـٰبِرِینَ ۝٨٣

Talal Itani (2012)

But We saved him and his family, except for his wife; she was of those who lagged behind

fa-anjaynāhu wa-ahlahu illā im'ra-atahu kānat mina l-ghābirīn

7:84

وَأَمۡطَرۡنَا عَلَیۡهِم مَّطَرࣰاۖ فَٱنظُرۡ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ ۝٨٤

Talal Itani (2012)

And We rained down on them a rain; note the consequences for the sinners

wa-amṭarnā ʿalayhim maṭaran fa-unẓur kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu l-muj'rimīn

7:85

وَإِلَىٰ مَدۡیَنَ أَخَاهُمۡ شُعَیۡبࣰاۚ قَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَـٰهٍ غَیۡرُهُۥۖ قَدۡ جَاۤءَتۡكُم بَیِّنَةࣱ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡۖ فَأَوۡفُوا۟ ٱلۡكَیۡلَ وَٱلۡمِیزَانَ وَلَا تَبۡخَسُوا۟ ٱلنَّاسَ أَشۡیَاۤءَهُمۡ وَلَا تُفۡسِدُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ بَعۡدَ إِصۡلَـٰحِهَاۚ ذَ ٰلِكُمۡ خَیۡرࣱ لَّكُمۡ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤۡمِنِینَ ۝٨٥

Talal Itani (2012)

And to Median, their brother Shuaib. He said, 'O my people, worship God; you have no god other than Him. A clear proof has come to you from your Lord. Give full measure and weight, and do not cheat people out of their rights, and do not corrupt the land once it has been set right. This is better for you, if you are believers.'

wa-ilā madyana akhāhum shuʿayban qāla yāqawmi uʿ'budū l-laha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruhu qad jāatkum bayyinatun min rabbikum fa-awfū l-kayla wal-mīzāna walā tabkhasū l-nāsa ashyāahum walā tuf'sidū fī l-arḍi baʿda iṣ'lāḥihā dhālikum khayrun lakum in kuntum mu'minīn

7:86

وَلَا تَقۡعُدُوا۟ بِكُلِّ صِرَ ٰطࣲ تُوعِدُونَ وَتَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِیلِ ٱللَّهِ مَنۡ ءَامَنَ بِهِۦ وَتَبۡغُونَهَا عِوَجࣰاۚ وَٱذۡكُرُوۤا۟ إِذۡ كُنتُمۡ قَلِیلࣰا فَكَثَّرَكُمۡۖ وَٱنظُرُوا۟ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُفۡسِدِینَ ۝٨٦

Talal Itani (2012)

'And do not lurk on every path, making threats and turning away from the path of God those who believe in Him, seeking to distort it. And remember how you were few, and how He made you numerous. So note the consequences for the corrupters.'

walā taqʿudū bikulli ṣirāṭin tūʿidūna wataṣuddūna ʿan sabīli l-lahi man āmana bihi watabghūnahā ʿiwajan wa-udh'kurū idh kuntum qalīlan fakatharakum wa-unẓurū kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu l-muf'sidīn

7:87

وَإِن كَانَ طَاۤىِٕفَةࣱ مِّنكُمۡ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِٱلَّذِیۤ أُرۡسِلۡتُ بِهِۦ وَطَاۤىِٕفَةࣱ لَّمۡ یُؤۡمِنُوا۟ فَٱصۡبِرُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ یَحۡكُمَ ٱللَّهُ بَیۡنَنَاۚ وَهُوَ خَیۡرُ ٱلۡحَـٰكِمِینَ ۝٨٧

Talal Itani (2012)

'Since some of you believed in what I was sent with, and some did not believe, be patient until God judges between us; for He is the Best of Judges.'

wa-in kāna ṭāifatun minkum āmanū bi-alladhī ur'sil'tu bihi waṭāifatun lam yu'minū fa-iṣ'birū ḥattā yaḥkuma l-lahu baynanā wahuwa khayru l-ḥākimīn

7:88

۞ قَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ لَنُخۡرِجَنَّكَ یَـٰشُعَیۡبُ وَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَعَكَ مِن قَرۡیَتِنَاۤ أَوۡ لَتَعُودُنَّ فِی مِلَّتِنَاۚ قَالَ أَوَ لَوۡ كُنَّا كَـٰرِهِینَ ۝٨٨

Talal Itani (2012)

The arrogant elite among his people said, 'O Shuaib, We will evict you from our town, along with those who believe with you, unless you return to our religion.' He said, 'Even if we are unwilling?'

qāla l-mala-u alladhīna is'takbarū min qawmihi lanukh'rijannaka yāshuʿaybu wa-alladhīna āmanū maʿaka min qaryatinā aw lataʿūdunna fī millatinā qāla awalaw kunnā kārihīn

7:89

قَدِ ٱفۡتَرَیۡنَا عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا إِنۡ عُدۡنَا فِی مِلَّتِكُم بَعۡدَ إِذۡ نَجَّىٰنَا ٱللَّهُ مِنۡهَاۚ وَمَا یَكُونُ لَنَاۤ أَن نَّعُودَ فِیهَاۤ إِلَّاۤ أَن یَشَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّنَاۚ وَسِعَ رَبُّنَا كُلَّ شَیۡءٍ عِلۡمًاۚ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوَكَّلۡنَاۚ رَبَّنَا ٱفۡتَحۡ بَیۡنَنَا وَبَیۡنَ قَوۡمِنَا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَأَنتَ خَیۡرُ ٱلۡفَـٰتِحِینَ ۝٨٩

Talal Itani (2012)

'We would be fabricating falsehood against God, if we were to return to your religion, after God has saved us from it. It is not for us to return to it, unless God, our Lord, wills. Our Lord embraces all things in knowledge. In God we place our trust. Our Lord, decide between us and our people in truth, for You are the Best of Deciders.'

qadi if'taraynā ʿalā l-lahi kadhiban in ʿud'nā fī millatikum baʿda idh najjānā l-lahu min'hā wamā yakūnu lanā an naʿūda fīhā illā an yashāa l-lahu rabbunā wasiʿa rabbunā kulla shayin ʿil'man ʿalā l-lahi tawakkalnā rabbanā if'taḥ baynanā wabayna qawminā bil-ḥaqi wa-anta khayru l-fātiḥīn

7:90

وَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ لَىِٕنِ ٱتَّبَعۡتُمۡ شُعَیۡبًا إِنَّكُمۡ إِذࣰا لَّخَـٰسِرُونَ ۝٩٠

Talal Itani (2012)

The elite of his people who disbelieved said, 'If you follow Shuaib, you will be losers.'

waqāla l-mala-u alladhīna kafarū min qawmihi la-ini ittabaʿtum shuʿayban innakum idhan lakhāsirūn

7:91

فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلرَّجۡفَةُ فَأَصۡبَحُوا۟ فِی دَارِهِمۡ جَـٰثِمِینَ ۝٩١

Talal Itani (2012)

Thereupon, the quake struck them; and they became lifeless bodies in their homes

fa-akhadhathumu l-rajfatu fa-aṣbaḥū fī dārihim jāthimīn

7:92

ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ شُعَیۡبࣰا كَأَن لَّمۡ یَغۡنَوۡا۟ فِیهَاۚ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ شُعَیۡبࣰا كَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرِینَ ۝٩٢

Talal Itani (2012)

Those who rejected Shuaib—as if they never prospered therein. Those who rejected Shuaib—it was they who were the losers

alladhīna kadhabū shuʿayban ka-an lam yaghnaw fīhā alladhīna kadhabū shuʿayban kānū humu l-khāsirīn

7:93

فَتَوَلَّىٰ عَنۡهُمۡ وَقَالَ یَـٰقَوۡمِ لَقَدۡ أَبۡلَغۡتُكُمۡ رِسَـٰلَـٰتِ رَبِّی وَنَصَحۡتُ لَكُمۡۖ فَكَیۡفَ ءَاسَىٰ عَلَىٰ قَوۡمࣲ كَـٰفِرِینَ ۝٩٣

Talal Itani (2012)

So he turned away from them, and said, 'O my people, I have delivered to you the messages of my Lord, and I have advised you, so why should I grieve over a disbelieving people?'

fatawallā ʿanhum waqāla yāqawmi laqad ablaghtukum risālāti rabbī wanaṣaḥtu lakum fakayfa āsā ʿalā qawmin kāfirīn

7:94

وَمَاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَا فِی قَرۡیَةࣲ مِّن نَّبِیٍّ إِلَّاۤ أَخَذۡنَاۤ أَهۡلَهَا بِٱلۡبَأۡسَاۤءِ وَٱلضَّرَّاۤءِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَضَّرَّعُونَ ۝٩٤

Talal Itani (2012)

We did not send any prophet to any town but We afflicted its people with misery and adversity, so that they may humble themselves

wamā arsalnā fī qaryatin min nabiyyin illā akhadhnā ahlahā bil-basāi wal-ḍarāi laʿallahum yaḍḍarraʿūn

7:95

ثُمَّ بَدَّلۡنَا مَكَانَ ٱلسَّیِّئَةِ ٱلۡحَسَنَةَ حَتَّىٰ عَفَوا۟ وَّقَالُوا۟ قَدۡ مَسَّ ءَابَاۤءَنَا ٱلضَّرَّاۤءُ وَٱلسَّرَّاۤءُ فَأَخَذۡنَـٰهُم بَغۡتَةࣰ وَهُمۡ لَا یَشۡعُرُونَ ۝٩٥

Talal Itani (2012)

Then We substituted prosperity in place of hardship. Until they increased in number, and said, 'Adversity and prosperity has touched our ancestors.' Then We seized them suddenly, while they were unaware

thumma baddalnā makāna l-sayi-ati l-ḥasanata ḥattā ʿafaw waqālū qad massa ābāanā l-ḍarāu wal-sarāu fa-akhadhnāhum baghtatan wahum lā yashʿurūn

7:96

وَلَوۡ أَنَّ أَهۡلَ ٱلۡقُرَىٰۤ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَٱتَّقَوۡا۟ لَفَتَحۡنَا عَلَیۡهِم بَرَكَـٰتࣲ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَـٰكِن كَذَّبُوا۟ فَأَخَذۡنَـٰهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَكۡسِبُونَ ۝٩٦

Talal Itani (2012)

Had the people of the towns believed and turned righteous, We would have opened for them the blessings of the heaven and the earth; but they rejected the truth, so We seized them by what they were doing

walaw anna ahla l-qurā āmanū wa-ittaqaw lafataḥnā ʿalayhim barakātin mina l-samāi wal-arḍi walākin kadhabū fa-akhadhnāhum bimā kānū yaksibūn

7:97

أَفَأَمِنَ أَهۡلُ ٱلۡقُرَىٰۤ أَن یَأۡتِیَهُم بَأۡسُنَا بَیَـٰتࣰا وَهُمۡ نَاۤىِٕمُونَ ۝٩٧

Talal Itani (2012)

Do the people of the towns feel secure that Our might will not come upon them by night, while they sleep

afa-amina ahlu l-qurā an yatiyahum basunā bayātan wahum nāimūn

7:98

أَوَ أَمِنَ أَهۡلُ ٱلۡقُرَىٰۤ أَن یَأۡتِیَهُم بَأۡسُنَا ضُحࣰى وَهُمۡ یَلۡعَبُونَ ۝٩٨

Talal Itani (2012)

Do the people of the towns feel secure that Our might will not come upon them by day, while they play

awa-amina ahlu l-qurā an yatiyahum basunā ḍuḥan wahum yalʿabūn

7:99

أَفَأَمِنُوا۟ مَكۡرَ ٱللَّهِۚ فَلَا یَأۡمَنُ مَكۡرَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلۡقَوۡمُ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرُونَ ۝٩٩

Talal Itani (2012)

Do they feel safe from God's plan? None feel safe from God's plan except the losing people

afa-aminū makra l-lahi falā yamanu makra l-lahi illā l-qawmu l-khāsirūn

7:100

أَوَ لَمۡ یَهۡدِ لِلَّذِینَ یَرِثُونَ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ أَهۡلِهَاۤ أَن لَّوۡ نَشَاۤءُ أَصَبۡنَـٰهُم بِذُنُوبِهِمۡۚ وَنَطۡبَعُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ فَهُمۡ لَا یَسۡمَعُونَ ۝١٠٠

Talal Itani (2012)

Is it not guidance for those who inherit the land after its inhabitants, that if We willed, We could strike them for their sins? And seal up their hearts, so that they would not hear

awalam yahdi lilladhīna yarithūna l-arḍa min baʿdi ahlihā an law nashāu aṣabnāhum bidhunūbihim wanaṭbaʿu ʿalā qulūbihim fahum lā yasmaʿūn

7:101

تِلۡكَ ٱلۡقُرَىٰ نَقُصُّ عَلَیۡكَ مِنۡ أَنۢبَاۤىِٕهَاۚ وَلَقَدۡ جَاۤءَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَیِّنَـٰتِ فَمَا كَانُوا۟ لِیُؤۡمِنُوا۟ بِمَا كَذَّبُوا۟ مِن قَبۡلُۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ یَطۡبَعُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ ۝١٠١

These towns—We narrate to you some of their tales. Their messengers came to them with the clear signs, but they would not believe in what they had rejected previously. Thus God seals the hearts of the disbelievers

til'ka l-qurā naquṣṣu ʿalayka min anbāihā walaqad jāathum rusuluhum bil-bayināti famā kānū liyu'minū bimā kadhabū min qablu kadhālika yaṭbaʿu l-lahu ʿalā qulūbi l-kāfirīn

7:102

وَمَا وَجَدۡنَا لِأَكۡثَرِهِم مِّنۡ عَهۡدࣲۖ وَإِن وَجَدۡنَاۤ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَفَـٰسِقِینَ ۝١٠٢

We found most of them untrue to their covenants; We found most of them corrupt

wamā wajadnā li-aktharihim min ʿahdin wa-in wajadnā aktharahum lafāsiqīn

7:103

ثُمَّ بَعَثۡنَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِم مُّوسَىٰ بِءَایَـٰتِنَاۤ إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَمَلَإِی۟هِۦ فَظَلَمُوا۟ بِهَاۖ فَٱنظُرۡ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُفۡسِدِینَ ۝١٠٣

Then, after them, We sent Moses with Our miracles to Pharaoh and his establishment, but they denounced them. So consider the end of the evildoers

thumma baʿathnā min baʿdihim mūsā biāyātinā ilā fir'ʿawna wamala-ihi faẓalamū bihā fa-unẓur kayfa kāna ʿāqibatu l-muf'sidīn

7:104

وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰ یَـٰفِرۡعَوۡنُ إِنِّی رَسُولࣱ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝١٠٤

Moses said, 'O Pharaoh, I am a messenger from the Lord of the Worlds.'

waqāla mūsā yāfir'ʿawnu innī rasūlun min rabbi l-ʿālamīn

7:105

حَقِیقٌ عَلَىٰۤ أَن لَّاۤ أَقُولَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلۡحَقَّۚ قَدۡ جِئۡتُكُم بِبَیِّنَةࣲ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ فَأَرۡسِلۡ مَعِیَ بَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ ۝١٠٥

Talal Itani (2012)

'It is only proper that I should not say about God anything other than the truth. I have come to you with clear evidence from your Lord, so let the Children of Israel go with me.'

ḥaqīqun ʿalā an lā aqūla ʿalā l-lahi illā l-ḥaqa qad ji'tukum bibayyinatin min rabbikum fa-arsil maʿiya banī is'rāīl

7:106

قَالَ إِن كُنتَ جِئۡتَ بِءَایَةࣲ فَأۡتِ بِهَاۤ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِینَ ۝١٠٦

He said, 'If you brought a miracle, then present it, if you are truthful.'

qāla in kunta ji'ta biāyatin fati bihā in kunta mina l-ṣādiqīn

7:107

فَأَلۡقَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِیَ ثُعۡبَانࣱ مُّبِینࣱ ۝١٠٧

Talal Itani (2012)

So he threw his staff, and it was an apparent serpent

fa-alqā ʿaṣāhu fa-idhā hiya thuʿ'bānun mubīnu

7:108

وَنَزَعَ یَدَهُۥ فَإِذَا هِیَ بَیۡضَاۤءُ لِلنَّـٰظِرِینَ ۝١٠٨

And He pulled out his hand, and it was white to the onlookers

wanazaʿa yadahu fa-idhā hiya bayḍāu lilnnāẓirīn

7:109

قَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ مِن قَوۡمِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَسَـٰحِرٌ عَلِیمࣱ ۝١٠٩

Talal Itani (2012)

The notables among Pharaoh's people said, 'This is really a skilled magician.'

qāla l-mala-u min qawmi fir'ʿawna inna hādhā lasāḥirun ʿalīmu

7:110

یُرِیدُ أَن یُخۡرِجَكُم مِّنۡ أَرۡضِكُمۡۖ فَمَاذَا تَأۡمُرُونَ ۝١١٠

Talal Itani (2012)

'He wants to evict you from your land, so what do you recommend?'

yurīdu an yukh'rijakum min arḍikum famādhā tamurūn

7:111

قَالُوۤا۟ أَرۡجِهۡ وَأَخَاهُ وَأَرۡسِلۡ فِی ٱلۡمَدَاۤىِٕنِ حَـٰشِرِینَ ۝١١١

Talal Itani (2012)

They said, 'Put him off, and his brother, and send heralds to the cities.'

qālū arjih wa-akhāhu wa-arsil fī l-madāini ḥāshirīn

7:112

یَأۡتُوكَ بِكُلِّ سَـٰحِرٍ عَلِیمࣲ ۝١١٢

'And let them bring you every skillful magician.'

yatūka bikulli sāḥirin ʿalīmi

7:113

وَجَاۤءَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ فِرۡعَوۡنَ قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّ لَنَا لَأَجۡرًا إِن كُنَّا نَحۡنُ ٱلۡغَـٰلِبِینَ ۝١١٣

Talal Itani (2012)

The magicians came to Pharaoh, and said, 'Surely there is a reward for us, if we are the victors.'

wajāa l-saḥaratu fir'ʿawna qālū inna lanā la-ajran in kunnā naḥnu l-ghālibīn

7:114

قَالَ نَعَمۡ وَإِنَّكُمۡ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبِینَ ۝١١٤

Talal Itani (2012)

He said, 'Yes, and you will be among my favorites.'

qāla naʿam wa-innakum lamina l-muqarabīn

7:115

قَالُوا۟ یَـٰمُوسَىٰۤ إِمَّاۤ أَن تُلۡقِیَ وَإِمَّاۤ أَن نَّكُونَ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُلۡقِینَ ۝١١٥

Talal Itani (2012)

They said, 'O Moses! Either you throw, or we are the ones to throw.'

qālū yāmūsā immā an tul'qiya wa-immā an nakūna naḥnu l-mul'qīn

7:116

قَالَ أَلۡقُوا۟ۖ فَلَمَّاۤ أَلۡقَوۡا۟ سَحَرُوۤا۟ أَعۡیُنَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَٱسۡتَرۡهَبُوهُمۡ وَجَاۤءُو بِسِحۡرٍ عَظِیمࣲ ۝١١٦

Talal Itani (2012)

He said, 'You throw!' And when they threw, they beguiled the eyes of the people, and intimidated them, and produced a mighty magic

qāla alqū falammā alqaw saḥarū aʿyuna l-nāsi wa-is'tarhabūhum wajāū bisiḥ'rin ʿaẓīmi

7:117

۞ وَأَوۡحَیۡنَاۤ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰۤ أَنۡ أَلۡقِ عَصَاكَۖ فَإِذَا هِیَ تَلۡقَفُ مَا یَأۡفِكُونَ ۝١١٧

And We inspired Moses: 'Throw your staff.' And at once, it swallowed what they were faking

wa-awḥaynā ilā mūsā an alqi ʿaṣāka fa-idhā hiya talqafu mā yafikūn

7:118

فَوَقَعَ ٱلۡحَقُّ وَبَطَلَ مَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١١٨

So the truth came to pass, and what they were producing came to nothing

fawaqaʿa l-ḥaqu wabaṭala mā kānū yaʿmalūn

7:119

فَغُلِبُوا۟ هُنَالِكَ وَٱنقَلَبُوا۟ صَـٰغِرِینَ ۝١١٩

There they were defeated, and utterly reduced

faghulibū hunālika wa-inqalabū ṣāghirīn

7:120

وَأُلۡقِیَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ سَـٰجِدِینَ ۝١٢٠

And the magicians fell to their knees

wa-ul'qiya l-saḥaratu sājidīn

7:121

قَالُوۤا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِرَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝١٢١

They said, 'We have believed in the Lord of the Worlds.'

qālū āmannā birabbi l-ʿālamīn

7:122

رَبِّ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ ۝١٢٢

'The Lord of Moses and Aaron.'

rabbi mūsā wahārūn

7:123

قَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ ءَامَنتُم بِهِۦ قَبۡلَ أَنۡ ءَاذَنَ لَكُمۡۖ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَمَكۡرࣱ مَّكَرۡتُمُوهُ فِی ٱلۡمَدِینَةِ لِتُخۡرِجُوا۟ مِنۡهَاۤ أَهۡلَهَاۖ فَسَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ ۝١٢٣

Talal Itani (2012)

Pharaoh said, 'Did you believe in Him before I have given you permission? This is surely a conspiracy you schemed in the city, in order to expel its people from it. You will surely know.'

qāla fir'ʿawnu āmantum bihi qabla an ādhana lakum inna hādhā lamakrun makartumūhu fī l-madīnati litukh'rijū min'hā ahlahā fasawfa taʿlamūn

7:124

لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَیۡدِیَكُمۡ وَأَرۡجُلَكُم مِّنۡ خِلَـٰفࣲ ثُمَّ لَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمۡ أَجۡمَعِینَ ۝١٢٤

'I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will crucify you all.'

la-uqaṭṭiʿanna aydiyakum wa-arjulakum min khilāfin thumma la-uṣallibannakum ajmaʿīn

7:125

قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّاۤ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا مُنقَلِبُونَ ۝١٢٥

Talal Itani (2012)

They said, 'It is to our Lord that we will return.'

qālū innā ilā rabbinā munqalibūn

7:126

وَمَا تَنقِمُ مِنَّاۤ إِلَّاۤ أَنۡ ءَامَنَّا بِءَایَـٰتِ رَبِّنَا لَمَّا جَاۤءَتۡنَاۚ رَبَّنَاۤ أَفۡرِغۡ عَلَیۡنَا صَبۡرࣰا وَتَوَفَّنَا مُسۡلِمِینَ ۝١٢٦

'You are taking vengeance on us only because we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they have come to us.' 'Our Lord! Pour out patience upon us, and receive our souls in submission.'

wamā tanqimu minnā illā an āmannā biāyāti rabbinā lammā jāatnā rabbanā afrigh ʿalaynā ṣabran watawaffanā mus'limīn

7:127

وَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ مِن قَوۡمِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ أَتَذَرُ مُوسَىٰ وَقَوۡمَهُۥ لِیُفۡسِدُوا۟ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَیَذَرَكَ وَءَالِهَتَكَۚ قَالَ سَنُقَتِّلُ أَبۡنَاۤءَهُمۡ وَنَسۡتَحۡیِۦ نِسَاۤءَهُمۡ وَإِنَّا فَوۡقَهُمۡ قَـٰهِرُونَ ۝١٢٧

The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said, 'Will you let Moses and his people cause trouble in the land, and forsake you and your gods?' He said, 'We will kill their sons, and spare their women. We have absolute power over them.'

waqāla l-mala-u min qawmi fir'ʿawna atadharu mūsā waqawmahu liyuf'sidū fī l-arḍi wayadharaka waālihataka qāla sanuqattilu abnāahum wanastaḥyī nisāahum wa-innā fawqahum qāhirūn

7:128

قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوۡمِهِ ٱسۡتَعِینُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱصۡبِرُوۤا۟ۖ إِنَّ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ لِلَّهِ یُورِثُهَا مَن یَشَاۤءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِهِۦۖ وَٱلۡعَـٰقِبَةُ لِلۡمُتَّقِینَ ۝١٢٨

Talal Itani (2012)

Moses said to his people, 'Seek help in God, and be patient. The earth belongs to God. He gives it in inheritance to whomever He wills of His servants, and the future belongs to the righteous.'

qāla mūsā liqawmihi is'taʿīnū bil-lahi wa-iṣ'birū inna l-arḍa lillahi yūrithuhā man yashāu min ʿibādihi wal-ʿāqibatu lil'muttaqīn

7:129

قَالُوۤا۟ أُوذِینَا مِن قَبۡلِ أَن تَأۡتِیَنَا وَمِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا جِئۡتَنَاۚ قَالَ عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمۡ أَن یُهۡلِكَ عَدُوَّكُمۡ وَیَسۡتَخۡلِفَكُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَیَنظُرَ كَیۡفَ تَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٢٩

Talal Itani (2012)

They said, 'We were persecuted before you came to us, and after you came to us.' He said, 'Perhaps your Lord will destroy your enemy, and make you successors in the land; then He will see how you behave.'

qālū ūdhīnā min qabli an tatiyanā wamin baʿdi mā ji'tanā qāla ʿasā rabbukum an yuh'lika ʿaduwwakum wayastakhlifakum fī l-arḍi fayanẓura kayfa taʿmalūn

7:130

وَلَقَدۡ أَخَذۡنَاۤ ءَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ بِٱلسِّنِینَ وَنَقۡصࣲ مِّنَ ٱلثَّمَرَ ٰتِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَذَّكَّرُونَ ۝١٣٠

And We afflicted the people of Pharaoh with barren years, and with shortage of crops, that they may take heed

walaqad akhadhnā āla fir'ʿawna bil-sinīna wanaqṣin mina l-thamarāti laʿallahum yadhakkarūn

7:131

فَإِذَا جَاۤءَتۡهُمُ ٱلۡحَسَنَةُ قَالُوا۟ لَنَا هَـٰذِهِۦۖ وَإِن تُصِبۡهُمۡ سَیِّئَةࣱ یَطَّیَّرُوا۟ بِمُوسَىٰ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥۤۗ أَلَاۤ إِنَّمَا طَـٰۤىِٕرُهُمۡ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝١٣١

When something good came their way, they said, 'This is ours.' And when something bad happened to them, they ascribed the evil omen to Moses and those with him. In fact, their omen is with God, but most of them do not know

fa-idhā jāathumu l-ḥasanatu qālū lanā hādhihi wa-in tuṣib'hum sayyi-atun yaṭṭayyarū bimūsā waman maʿahu alā innamā ṭāiruhum ʿinda l-lahi walākinna aktharahum lā yaʿlamūn

7:132

وَقَالُوا۟ مَهۡمَا تَأۡتِنَا بِهِۦ مِنۡ ءَایَةࣲ لِّتَسۡحَرَنَا بِهَا فَمَا نَحۡنُ لَكَ بِمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١٣٢

And they said, 'No matter what sign you bring us, to bewitch us with, we will not believe in you.'

waqālū mahmā tatinā bihi min āyatin litasḥaranā bihā famā naḥnu laka bimu'minīn

7:133

فَأَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلطُّوفَانَ وَٱلۡجَرَادَ وَٱلۡقُمَّلَ وَٱلضَّفَادِعَ وَٱلدَّمَ ءَایَـٰتࣲ مُّفَصَّلَـٰتࣲ فَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ قَوۡمࣰا مُّجۡرِمِینَ ۝١٣٣

So We let loose upon them the flood, and the locusts, and the lice, and the frogs, and blood—all explicit signs—but they were too arrogant. They were a sinful people

fa-arsalnā ʿalayhimu l-ṭūfāna wal-jarāda wal-qumala wal-ḍafādiʿa wal-dama āyātin mufaṣṣalātin fa-is'takbarū wakānū qawman muj'rimīn

7:134

وَلَمَّا وَقَعَ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلرِّجۡزُ قَالُوا۟ یَـٰمُوسَى ٱدۡعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا عَهِدَ عِندَكَۖ لَىِٕن كَشَفۡتَ عَنَّا ٱلرِّجۡزَ لَنُؤۡمِنَنَّ لَكَ وَلَنُرۡسِلَنَّ مَعَكَ بَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ ۝١٣٤

Whenever a plague befell them, they would say, 'O Moses, pray to your Lord for us, according to the covenant He made with you. If you lift the plague from us, we will believe in you, and let the Children of Israel go with you.'

walammā waqaʿa ʿalayhimu l-rij'zu qālū yāmūsā ud'ʿu lanā rabbaka bimā ʿahida ʿindaka la-in kashafta ʿannā l-rij'za lanu'minanna laka walanur'silanna maʿaka banī is'rāīl

7:135

فَلَمَّا كَشَفۡنَا عَنۡهُمُ ٱلرِّجۡزَ إِلَىٰۤ أَجَلٍ هُم بَـٰلِغُوهُ إِذَا هُمۡ یَنكُثُونَ ۝١٣٥

But when We lifted the plague from them, for a term they were to fulfill, they broke their promise

falammā kashafnā ʿanhumu l-rij'za ilā ajalin hum bālighūhu idhā hum yankuthūn

7:136

فَٱنتَقَمۡنَا مِنۡهُمۡ فَأَغۡرَقۡنَـٰهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡیَمِّ بِأَنَّهُمۡ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا وَكَانُوا۟ عَنۡهَا غَـٰفِلِینَ ۝١٣٦

So We took vengeance on them, and drowned them in the sea—because they rejected Our signs, and paid no heed to them

fa-intaqamnā min'hum fa-aghraqnāhum fī l-yami bi-annahum kadhabū biāyātinā wakānū ʿanhā ghāfilīn

7:137

وَأَوۡرَثۡنَا ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلَّذِینَ كَانُوا۟ یُسۡتَضۡعَفُونَ مَشَـٰرِقَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَغَـٰرِبَهَا ٱلَّتِی بَـٰرَكۡنَا فِیهَاۖ وَتَمَّتۡ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ عَلَىٰ بَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ بِمَا صَبَرُوا۟ۖ وَدَمَّرۡنَا مَا كَانَ یَصۡنَعُ فِرۡعَوۡنُ وَقَوۡمُهُۥ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡرِشُونَ ۝١٣٧

Talal Itani (2012)

And We made the oppressed people inherit the eastern and western parts of the land, which We had blessed. Thus the fair promise of your Lord to the Children of Israel was fulfilled, because of their endurance. And We destroyed what Pharaoh and his people had built, and what they had harvested

wa-awrathnā l-qawma alladhīna kānū yus'taḍʿafūna mashāriqa l-arḍi wamaghāribahā allatī bāraknā fīhā watammat kalimatu rabbika l-ḥus'nā ʿalā banī is'rāīla bimā ṣabarū wadammarnā mā kāna yaṣnaʿu fir'ʿawnu waqawmuhu wamā kānū yaʿrishūn

7:138

وَجَـٰوَزۡنَا بِبَنِیۤ إِسۡرَ ٰۤءِیلَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَ فَأَتَوۡا۟ عَلَىٰ قَوۡمࣲ یَعۡكُفُونَ عَلَىٰۤ أَصۡنَامࣲ لَّهُمۡۚ قَالُوا۟ یَـٰمُوسَى ٱجۡعَل لَّنَاۤ إِلَـٰهࣰا كَمَا لَهُمۡ ءَالِهَةࣱۚ قَالَ إِنَّكُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ تَجۡهَلُونَ ۝١٣٨

And We delivered the Children of Israel across the sea. And when they came upon a people who were devoted to some statues of theirs, they said, 'O Moses, make for us a god, as they have gods.' He said, 'You are truly an ignorant people.'

wajāwaznā bibanī is'rāīla l-baḥra fa-ataw ʿalā qawmin yaʿkufūna ʿalā aṣnāmin lahum qālū yāmūsā ij'ʿal lanā ilāhan kamā lahum ālihatun qāla innakum qawmun tajhalūn

7:139

إِنَّ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ مُتَبَّرࣱ مَّا هُمۡ فِیهِ وَبَـٰطِلࣱ مَّا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٣٩

Talal Itani (2012)

'What these people are concerned with is perdition, and their deeds are based on falsehoods.'

inna hāulāi mutabbarun mā hum fīhi wabāṭilun mā kānū yaʿmalūn

7:140

قَالَ أَغَیۡرَ ٱللَّهِ أَبۡغِیكُمۡ إِلَـٰهࣰا وَهُوَ فَضَّلَكُمۡ عَلَى ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ۝١٤٠

Talal Itani (2012)

He said, 'Shall I seek for you a god other than God, when He has favored you over all other people?'

qāla aghayra l-lahi abghīkum ilāhan wahuwa faḍḍalakum ʿalā l-ʿālamīn

7:141

وَإِذۡ أَنجَیۡنَـٰكُم مِّنۡ ءَالِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ یَسُومُونَكُمۡ سُوۤءَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ یُقَتِّلُونَ أَبۡنَاۤءَكُمۡ وَیَسۡتَحۡیُونَ نِسَاۤءَكُمۡۚ وَفِی ذَ ٰلِكُم بَلَاۤءࣱ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ عَظِیمࣱ ۝١٤١

Talal Itani (2012)

Remember how We saved you from Pharaoh's people, who subjected you to the worst of sufferings—killing your sons and sparing your women. In that was a tremendous trial from your Lord

wa-idh anjaynākum min āli fir'ʿawna yasūmūnakum sūa l-ʿadhābi yuqattilūna abnāakum wayastaḥyūna nisāakum wafī dhālikum balāon min rabbikum ʿaẓīmu

7:142

۞ وَوَ ٰعَدۡنَا مُوسَىٰ ثَلَـٰثِینَ لَیۡلَةࣰ وَأَتۡمَمۡنَـٰهَا بِعَشۡرࣲ فَتَمَّ مِیقَـٰتُ رَبِّهِۦۤ أَرۡبَعِینَ لَیۡلَةࣰۚ وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِأَخِیهِ هَـٰرُونَ ٱخۡلُفۡنِی فِی قَوۡمِی وَأَصۡلِحۡ وَلَا تَتَّبِعۡ سَبِیلَ ٱلۡمُفۡسِدِینَ ۝١٤٢

And We appointed to Moses thirty nights, and completed them with ten; and thus the time appointed by his Lord was forty nights. And Moses said to his brother Aaron: 'Take my place among my people, and be upright, and do not follow the way of the mischief-makers.'

wawāʿadnā mūsā thalāthīna laylatan wa-atmamnāhā biʿashrin fatamma mīqātu rabbihi arbaʿīna laylatan waqāla mūsā li-akhīhi hārūna ukh'luf'nī fī qawmī wa-aṣliḥ walā tattabiʿ sabīla l-muf'sidīn

7:143

وَلَمَّا جَاۤءَ مُوسَىٰ لِمِیقَـٰتِنَا وَكَلَّمَهُۥ رَبُّهُۥ قَالَ رَبِّ أَرِنِیۤ أَنظُرۡ إِلَیۡكَۚ قَالَ لَن تَرَىٰنِی وَلَـٰكِنِ ٱنظُرۡ إِلَى ٱلۡجَبَلِ فَإِنِ ٱسۡتَقَرَّ مَكَانَهُۥ فَسَوۡفَ تَرَىٰنِیۚ فَلَمَّا تَجَلَّىٰ رَبُّهُۥ لِلۡجَبَلِ جَعَلَهُۥ دَكࣰّا وَخَرَّ مُوسَىٰ صَعِقࣰاۚ فَلَمَّاۤ أَفَاقَ قَالَ سُبۡحَـٰنَكَ تُبۡتُ إِلَیۡكَ وَأَنَا۠ أَوَّلُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ ۝١٤٣

And when Moses came to Our appointment, and his Lord spoke to him, he said, 'My Lord, allow me to look and see You.' He said, 'You will not see Me, but look at the mountain; if it stays in its place, you will see Me.' But when his Lord manifested Himself to the mountain, He turned it into dust, and Moses fell down unconscious. Then, when he recovered, he said, 'Glory be to you, I repent to you, and I am the first of the believers.'

walammā jāa mūsā limīqātinā wakallamahu rabbuhu qāla rabbi arinī anẓur ilayka qāla lan tarānī walākini unẓur ilā l-jabali fa-ini is'taqarra makānahu fasawfa tarānī falammā tajallā rabbuhu lil'jabali jaʿalahu dakkan wakharra mūsā ṣaʿiqan falammā afāqa qāla sub'ḥānaka tub'tu ilayka wa-anā awwalu l-mu'minīn

7:144

قَالَ یَـٰمُوسَىٰۤ إِنِّی ٱصۡطَفَیۡتُكَ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ بِرِسَـٰلَـٰتِی وَبِكَلَـٰمِی فَخُذۡ مَاۤ ءَاتَیۡتُكَ وَكُن مِّنَ ٱلشَّـٰكِرِینَ ۝١٤٤

Talal Itani (2012)

He said, 'O Moses, I have chosen you over all people for My messages and for My Words. So take what I have given you, and be one of the thankful.'

qāla yāmūsā innī iṣ'ṭafaytuka ʿalā l-nāsi birisālātī wabikalāmī fakhudh mā ātaytuka wakun mina l-shākirīn

7:145

وَكَتَبۡنَا لَهُۥ فِی ٱلۡأَلۡوَاحِ مِن كُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ مَّوۡعِظَةࣰ وَتَفۡصِیلࣰا لِّكُلِّ شَیۡءࣲ فَخُذۡهَا بِقُوَّةࣲ وَأۡمُرۡ قَوۡمَكَ یَأۡخُذُوا۟ بِأَحۡسَنِهَاۚ سَأُو۟رِیكُمۡ دَارَ ٱلۡفَـٰسِقِینَ ۝١٤٥

And We inscribed for him in the Tablets all kinds of enlightenments, and decisive explanation of all things. 'Hold fast to them, and exhort your people to adopt the best of them. I will show you the fate of the sinners.'

wakatabnā lahu fī l-alwāḥi min kulli shayin mawʿiẓatan watafṣīlan likulli shayin fakhudh'hā biquwwatin wamur qawmaka yakhudhū bi-aḥsanihā sa-urīkum dāra l-fāsiqīn

7:146

سَأَصۡرِفُ عَنۡ ءَایَـٰتِیَ ٱلَّذِینَ یَتَكَبَّرُونَ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ بِغَیۡرِ ٱلۡحَقِّ وَإِن یَرَوۡا۟ كُلَّ ءَایَةࣲ لَّا یُؤۡمِنُوا۟ بِهَا وَإِن یَرَوۡا۟ سَبِیلَ ٱلرُّشۡدِ لَا یَتَّخِذُوهُ سَبِیلࣰا وَإِن یَرَوۡا۟ سَبِیلَ ٱلۡغَیِّ یَتَّخِذُوهُ سَبِیلࣰاۚ ذَ ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا وَكَانُوا۟ عَنۡهَا غَـٰفِلِینَ ۝١٤٦

Talal Itani (2012)

I will turn away from My revelations those who behave proudly on earth without justification. Even if they see every sign, they will not believe in it; and if they see the path of rectitude, they will not adopt it for a path; and if they see the path of error, they will adopt it for a path. That is because they denied Our revelations, and paid no attention to them

sa-aṣrifu ʿan āyātiya alladhīna yatakabbarūna fī l-arḍi bighayri l-ḥaqi wa-in yaraw kulla āyatin lā yu'minū bihā wa-in yaraw sabīla l-rush'di lā yattakhidhūhu sabīlan wa-in yaraw sabīla l-ghayi yattakhidhūhu sabīlan dhālika bi-annahum kadhabū biāyātinā wakānū ʿanhā ghāfilīn

7:147

وَٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا وَلِقَاۤءِ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ حَبِطَتۡ أَعۡمَـٰلُهُمۡۚ هَلۡ یُجۡزَوۡنَ إِلَّا مَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٤٧

Those who deny Our revelations and the meeting of the Hereafter—their deeds will come to nothing. Will they be repaid except according to what they used to do

wa-alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā waliqāi l-ākhirati ḥabiṭat aʿmāluhum hal yuj'zawna illā mā kānū yaʿmalūn

7:148

وَٱتَّخَذَ قَوۡمُ مُوسَىٰ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦ مِنۡ حُلِیِّهِمۡ عِجۡلࣰا جَسَدࣰا لَّهُۥ خُوَارٌۚ أَلَمۡ یَرَوۡا۟ أَنَّهُۥ لَا یُكَلِّمُهُمۡ وَلَا یَهۡدِیهِمۡ سَبِیلًاۘ ٱتَّخَذُوهُ وَكَانُوا۟ ظَـٰلِمِینَ ۝١٤٨

In his absence, the people of Moses adopted a calf made from their ornaments—a body which lowed. Did they not see that it could not speak to them, nor guide them in any way? They took it for worship. They were in the wrong

wa-ittakhadha qawmu mūsā min baʿdihi min ḥuliyyihim ʿij'lan jasadan lahu khuwārun alam yaraw annahu lā yukallimuhum walā yahdīhim sabīlan ittakhadhūhu wakānū ẓālimīn

7:149

وَلَمَّا سُقِطَ فِیۤ أَیۡدِیهِمۡ وَرَأَوۡا۟ أَنَّهُمۡ قَدۡ ضَلُّوا۟ قَالُوا۟ لَىِٕن لَّمۡ یَرۡحَمۡنَا رَبُّنَا وَیَغۡفِرۡ لَنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرِینَ ۝١٤٩

Then, when they regretted, and realized that they had erred, they said, 'Unless our Lord extends His mercy to us, and forgives us, we will be among the losers.'

walammā suqiṭa fī aydīhim wara-aw annahum qad ḍallū qālū la-in lam yarḥamnā rabbunā wayaghfir lanā lanakūnanna mina l-khāsirīn

7:150

وَلَمَّا رَجَعَ مُوسَىٰۤ إِلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦ غَضۡبَـٰنَ أَسِفࣰا قَالَ بِئۡسَمَا خَلَفۡتُمُونِی مِنۢ بَعۡدِیۤۖ أَعَجِلۡتُمۡ أَمۡرَ رَبِّكُمۡۖ وَأَلۡقَى ٱلۡأَلۡوَاحَ وَأَخَذَ بِرَأۡسِ أَخِیهِ یَجُرُّهُۥۤ إِلَیۡهِۚ قَالَ ٱبۡنَ أُمَّ إِنَّ ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱسۡتَضۡعَفُونِی وَكَادُوا۟ یَقۡتُلُونَنِی فَلَا تُشۡمِتۡ بِیَ ٱلۡأَعۡدَاۤءَ وَلَا تَجۡعَلۡنِی مَعَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ ۝١٥٠

And when Moses returned to his people, angry and disappointed, he said, 'What an awful thing you did in my absence. Did you forsake the commandments of your Lord so hastily?' And he threw down the tablets; and he took hold of his brother's head, dragging him towards himself. He said, 'Son of my mother, the people have overpowered me, and were about to kill me; so do not allow the enemies to gloat over me, and do not count me among the unjust people.'

walammā rajaʿa mūsā ilā qawmihi ghaḍbāna asifan qāla bi'samā khalaftumūnī min baʿdī aʿajil'tum amra rabbikum wa-alqā l-alwāḥa wa-akhadha birasi akhīhi yajurruhu ilayhi qāla ib'na umma inna l-qawma is'taḍʿafūnī wakādū yaqtulūnanī falā tush'mit biya l-aʿdāa walā tajʿalnī maʿa l-qawmi l-ẓālimīn

7:151

قَالَ رَبِّ ٱغۡفِرۡ لِی وَلِأَخِی وَأَدۡخِلۡنَا فِی رَحۡمَتِكَۖ وَأَنتَ أَرۡحَمُ ٱلرَّ ٰحِمِینَ ۝١٥١

Talal Itani (2012)

He said, 'My Lord, forgive me and my brother, and admit us into Your mercy; for you are the Most Merciful of the merciful.'

qāla rabbi igh'fir lī wali-akhī wa-adkhil'nā fī raḥmatika wa-anta arḥamu l-rāḥimīn

7:152

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ ٱلۡعِجۡلَ سَیَنَالُهُمۡ غَضَبࣱ مِّن رَّبِّهِمۡ وَذِلَّةࣱ فِی ٱلۡحَیَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡیَاۚ وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُفۡتَرِینَ ۝١٥٢

Talal Itani (2012)

Those who idolized the calf have incurred wrath from their Lord, and humiliation in this life. We thus requite the innovators

inna alladhīna ittakhadhū l-ʿij'la sayanāluhum ghaḍabun min rabbihim wadhillatun fī l-ḥayati l-dun'yā wakadhālika najzī l-muf'tarīn

7:153

وَٱلَّذِینَ عَمِلُوا۟ ٱلسَّیِّءَاتِ ثُمَّ تَابُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهَا وَءَامَنُوۤا۟ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهَا لَغَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝١٥٣

As for those who commit sins, and then repent afterwards and believe—your Lord, thereafter, is Forgiving and Merciful

wa-alladhīna ʿamilū l-sayiāti thumma tābū min baʿdihā waāmanū inna rabbaka min baʿdihā laghafūrun raḥīmu

7:154

وَلَمَّا سَكَتَ عَن مُّوسَى ٱلۡغَضَبُ أَخَذَ ٱلۡأَلۡوَاحَۖ وَفِی نُسۡخَتِهَا هُدࣰى وَرَحۡمَةࣱ لِّلَّذِینَ هُمۡ لِرَبِّهِمۡ یَرۡهَبُونَ ۝١٥٤

When the anger abated in Moses, he took up the tablets. In their transcript is guidance and mercy for those in awe of their Lord

walammā sakata ʿan mūsā l-ghaḍabu akhadha l-alwāḥa wafī nus'khatihā hudan waraḥmatun lilladhīna hum lirabbihim yarhabūn

7:155

وَٱخۡتَارَ مُوسَىٰ قَوۡمَهُۥ سَبۡعِینَ رَجُلࣰا لِّمِیقَـٰتِنَاۖ فَلَمَّاۤ أَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلرَّجۡفَةُ قَالَ رَبِّ لَوۡ شِئۡتَ أَهۡلَكۡتَهُم مِّن قَبۡلُ وَإِیَّـٰیَۖ أَتُهۡلِكُنَا بِمَا فَعَلَ ٱلسُّفَهَاۤءُ مِنَّاۤۖ إِنۡ هِیَ إِلَّا فِتۡنَتُكَ تُضِلُّ بِهَا مَن تَشَاۤءُ وَتَهۡدِی مَن تَشَاۤءُۖ أَنتَ وَلِیُّنَا فَٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَٱرۡحَمۡنَاۖ وَأَنتَ خَیۡرُ ٱلۡغَـٰفِرِینَ ۝١٥٥

Talal Itani (2012)

And Moses chose from his people seventy men for Our appointment. When the tremor shook them, he said, 'My Lord, had You willed, You could have destroyed them before, and me too. Will you destroy us for what the fools among us have done? This is but Your test—with it You misguide whomever You will, and guide whomever You will. You are our Protector, so forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are the Best of Forgivers.'

wa-ikh'tāra mūsā qawmahu sabʿīna rajulan limīqātinā falammā akhadhathumu l-rajfatu qāla rabbi law shi'ta ahlaktahum min qablu wa-iyyāya atuh'likunā bimā faʿala l-sufahāu minnā in hiya illā fit'natuka tuḍillu bihā man tashāu watahdī man tashāu anta waliyyunā fa-igh'fir lanā wa-ir'ḥamnā wa-anta khayru l-ghāfirīn

7:156

۞ وَٱكۡتُبۡ لَنَا فِی هَـٰذِهِ ٱلدُّنۡیَا حَسَنَةࣰ وَفِی ٱلۡءَاخِرَةِ إِنَّا هُدۡنَاۤ إِلَیۡكَۚ قَالَ عَذَابِیۤ أُصِیبُ بِهِۦ مَنۡ أَشَاۤءُۖ وَرَحۡمَتِی وَسِعَتۡ كُلَّ شَیۡءࣲۚ فَسَأَكۡتُبُهَا لِلَّذِینَ یَتَّقُونَ وَیُؤۡتُونَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَٱلَّذِینَ هُم بِءَایَـٰتِنَا یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١٥٦

Talal Itani (2012)

'And inscribe for us goodness in this world, and in the Hereafter. We have turned to You.' He said, 'My punishment—I inflict it upon whomever I will, but My mercy encompasses all things. I will specify it for those who act righteously and practice regular charity, and those who believe in Our signs.'

wa-uk'tub lanā fī hādhihi l-dun'yā ḥasanatan wafī l-ākhirati innā hud'nā ilayka qāla ʿadhābī uṣību bihi man ashāu waraḥmatī wasiʿat kulla shayin fasa-aktubuhā lilladhīna yattaqūna wayu'tūna l-zakata wa-alladhīna hum biāyātinā yu'minūn

7:157

ٱلَّذِینَ یَتَّبِعُونَ ٱلرَّسُولَ ٱلنَّبِیَّ ٱلۡأُمِّیَّ ٱلَّذِی یَجِدُونَهُۥ مَكۡتُوبًا عِندَهُمۡ فِی ٱلتَّوۡرَىٰةِ وَٱلۡإِنجِیلِ یَأۡمُرُهُم بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِ وَیَنۡهَىٰهُمۡ عَنِ ٱلۡمُنكَرِ وَیُحِلُّ لَهُمُ ٱلطَّیِّبَـٰتِ وَیُحَرِّمُ عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡخَبَـٰۤىِٕثَ وَیَضَعُ عَنۡهُمۡ إِصۡرَهُمۡ وَٱلۡأَغۡلَـٰلَ ٱلَّتِی كَانَتۡ عَلَیۡهِمۡۚ فَٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِهِۦ وَعَزَّرُوهُ وَنَصَرُوهُ وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ ٱلنُّورَ ٱلَّذِیۤ أُنزِلَ مَعَهُۥۤ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ ۝١٥٧

Those who follow the Messenger, the Unlettered Prophet, whom they find mentioned in the Torah and the Gospel in their possession. He directs them to righteousness, and deters them from evil, and allows for them all good things, and prohibits for them wickedness, and unloads the burdens and the shackles that are upon them. Those who believe in him, and respect him, and support him, and follow the light that came down with him—these are the successful

alladhīna yattabiʿūna l-rasūla l-nabiya l-umiya alladhī yajidūnahu maktūban ʿindahum fī l-tawrāti wal-injīli yamuruhum bil-maʿrūfi wayanhāhum ʿani l-munkari wayuḥillu lahumu l-ṭayibāti wayuḥarrimu ʿalayhimu l-khabāitha wayaḍaʿu ʿanhum iṣ'rahum wal-aghlāla allatī kānat ʿalayhim fa-alladhīna āmanū bihi waʿazzarūhu wanaṣarūhu wa-ittabaʿū l-nūra alladhī unzila maʿahu ulāika humu l-muf'liḥūn

7:158

قُلۡ یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ إِنِّی رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ إِلَیۡكُمۡ جَمِیعًا ٱلَّذِی لَهُۥ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ یُحۡیِۦ وَیُمِیتُۖ فَءَامِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ٱلنَّبِیِّ ٱلۡأُمِّیِّ ٱلَّذِی یُؤۡمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦ وَٱتَّبِعُوهُ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَهۡتَدُونَ ۝١٥٨

Talal Itani (2012)

Say, 'O people, I am the Messenger of God to you all—He to whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. There is no god but He. He gives life and causes death.' So believe in God and His Messenger, the Unlettered Prophet, who believes in God and His words. And follow him, that you may be guided

qul yāayyuhā l-nāsu innī rasūlu l-lahi ilaykum jamīʿan alladhī lahu mul'ku l-samāwāti wal-arḍi lā ilāha illā huwa yuḥ'yī wayumītu faāminū bil-lahi warasūlihi l-nabiyi l-umiyi alladhī yu'minu bil-lahi wakalimātihi wa-ittabiʿūhu laʿallakum tahtadūn

7:159

وَمِن قَوۡمِ مُوسَىٰۤ أُمَّةࣱ یَهۡدُونَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَبِهِۦ یَعۡدِلُونَ ۝١٥٩

Among the people of Moses is a community that guides by truth, and thereby does justice

wamin qawmi mūsā ummatun yahdūna bil-ḥaqi wabihi yaʿdilūn

7:160

وَقَطَّعۡنَـٰهُمُ ٱثۡنَتَیۡ عَشۡرَةَ أَسۡبَاطًا أُمَمࣰاۚ وَأَوۡحَیۡنَاۤ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰۤ إِذِ ٱسۡتَسۡقَىٰهُ قَوۡمُهُۥۤ أَنِ ٱضۡرِب بِّعَصَاكَ ٱلۡحَجَرَۖ فَٱنۢبَجَسَتۡ مِنۡهُ ٱثۡنَتَا عَشۡرَةَ عَیۡنࣰاۖ قَدۡ عَلِمَ كُلُّ أُنَاسࣲ مَّشۡرَبَهُمۡۚ وَظَلَّلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡغَمَـٰمَ وَأَنزَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلۡمَنَّ وَٱلسَّلۡوَىٰۖ كُلُوا۟ مِن طَیِّبَـٰتِ مَا رَزَقۡنَـٰكُمۡۚ وَمَا ظَلَمُونَا وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَهُمۡ یَظۡلِمُونَ ۝١٦٠

We divided them into twelve tribal communities. And We inspired Moses, when his people asked him for something to drink: 'Strike the rock with your staff.' Whereupon twelve springs gushed from it. Each group recognized its drinking-place. And We shaded them with clouds, and We sent down upon them manna and quails: 'Eat of the good things We have provided for you.' They did not wrong Us, but they used to wrong their own selves

waqaṭṭaʿnāhumu ith'natay ʿashrata asbāṭan umaman wa-awḥaynā ilā mūsā idhi is'tasqāhu qawmuhu ani iḍ'rib biʿaṣāka l-ḥajara fa-inbajasat min'hu ith'natā ʿashrata ʿaynan qad ʿalima kullu unāsin mashrabahum waẓallalnā ʿalayhimu l-ghamāma wa-anzalnā ʿalayhimu l-mana wal-salwā kulū min ṭayyibāti mā razaqnākum wamā ẓalamūnā walākin kānū anfusahum yaẓlimūn

7:161

وَإِذۡ قِیلَ لَهُمُ ٱسۡكُنُوا۟ هَـٰذِهِ ٱلۡقَرۡیَةَ وَكُلُوا۟ مِنۡهَا حَیۡثُ شِئۡتُمۡ وَقُولُوا۟ حِطَّةࣱ وَٱدۡخُلُوا۟ ٱلۡبَابَ سُجَّدࣰا نَّغۡفِرۡ لَكُمۡ خَطِیۤءَـٰتِكُمۡۚ سَنَزِیدُ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ ۝١٦١

And it was said to them, 'Settle this town, and eat therein whatever you wish, and speak modestly, and enter the gate in humility—We will forgive your sins, and will promote the righteous.'

wa-idh qīla lahumu us'kunū hādhihi l-qaryata wakulū min'hā ḥaythu shi'tum waqūlū ḥiṭṭatun wa-ud'khulū l-bāba sujjadan naghfir lakum khaṭīātikum sanazīdu l-muḥ'sinīn

7:162

فَبَدَّلَ ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مِنۡهُمۡ قَوۡلًا غَیۡرَ ٱلَّذِی قِیلَ لَهُمۡ فَأَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ رِجۡزࣰا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَظۡلِمُونَ ۝١٦٢

But the wicked among them substituted other words for the words given to them; so We sent down upon them a plague from the sky, because of their wrongdoing

fabaddala alladhīna ẓalamū min'hum qawlan ghayra alladhī qīla lahum fa-arsalnā ʿalayhim rij'zan mina l-samāi bimā kānū yaẓlimūn

7:163

وَسۡءَلۡهُمۡ عَنِ ٱلۡقَرۡیَةِ ٱلَّتِی كَانَتۡ حَاضِرَةَ ٱلۡبَحۡرِ إِذۡ یَعۡدُونَ فِی ٱلسَّبۡتِ إِذۡ تَأۡتِیهِمۡ حِیتَانُهُمۡ یَوۡمَ سَبۡتِهِمۡ شُرَّعࣰا وَیَوۡمَ لَا یَسۡبِتُونَ لَا تَأۡتِیهِمۡۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَبۡلُوهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَفۡسُقُونَ ۝١٦٣

Ask them about the town by the sea, when they violated the Sabbath. When they observed the Sabbath, their fish would come to them abundantly. But when they violated the Sabbath, their fish would not come to them. Thus We tried them because they disobeyed

wasalhum ʿani l-qaryati allatī kānat ḥāḍirata l-baḥri idh yaʿdūna fī l-sabti idh tatīhim ḥītānuhum yawma sabtihim shurraʿan wayawma lā yasbitūna lā tatīhim kadhālika nablūhum bimā kānū yafsuqūn

7:164

وَإِذۡ قَالَتۡ أُمَّةࣱ مِّنۡهُمۡ لِمَ تَعِظُونَ قَوۡمًا ٱللَّهُ مُهۡلِكُهُمۡ أَوۡ مُعَذِّبُهُمۡ عَذَابࣰا شَدِیدࣰاۖ قَالُوا۟ مَعۡذِرَةً إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُمۡ وَلَعَلَّهُمۡ یَتَّقُونَ ۝١٦٤

Talal Itani (2012)

And when a group of them said, 'Why do you counsel a people whom God will annihilate, or punish with a severe punishment?' They said, 'As an excuse to your Lord, and so that they may become righteous.'

wa-idh qālat ummatun min'hum lima taʿiẓūna qawman l-lahu muh'likuhum aw muʿadhibuhum ʿadhāban shadīdan qālū maʿdhiratan ilā rabbikum walaʿallahum yattaqūn

7:165

فَلَمَّا نَسُوا۟ مَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ بِهِۦۤ أَنجَیۡنَا ٱلَّذِینَ یَنۡهَوۡنَ عَنِ ٱلسُّوۤءِ وَأَخَذۡنَا ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ بِعَذَابِۭ بَءِیسِۭ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ یَفۡسُقُونَ ۝١٦٥

Then, when they neglected what they were reminded of, We saved those who prohibited evil, and We seized those who did wrong with a terrible punishment, because of their sinfulness

falammā nasū mā dhukkirū bihi anjaynā alladhīna yanhawna ʿani l-sūi wa-akhadhnā alladhīna ẓalamū biʿadhābin baīsin bimā kānū yafsuqūn

7:166

فَلَمَّا عَتَوۡا۟ عَن مَّا نُهُوا۟ عَنۡهُ قُلۡنَا لَهُمۡ كُونُوا۟ قِرَدَةً خَـٰسِءِینَ ۝١٦٦

Then, when they rebelled against the commands to refrain, We said to them, 'Be despicable apes.'

falammā ʿataw ʿan mā nuhū ʿanhu qul'nā lahum kūnū qiradatan khāsiīn

7:167

وَإِذۡ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكَ لَیَبۡعَثَنَّ عَلَیۡهِمۡ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ مَن یَسُومُهُمۡ سُوۤءَ ٱلۡعَذَابِۗ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَسَرِیعُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ وَإِنَّهُۥ لَغَفُورࣱ رَّحِیمࣱ ۝١٦٧

Your Lord has announced that, He would send against them, until the Day of Resurrection, those who would inflict terrible suffering upon them. Your Lord is swift in retribution, yet He is Forgiving and Merciful

wa-idh ta-adhana rabbuka layabʿathanna ʿalayhim ilā yawmi l-qiyāmati man yasūmuhum sūa l-ʿadhābi inna rabbaka lasarīʿu l-ʿiqābi wa-innahu laghafūrun raḥīmu

7:168

وَقَطَّعۡنَـٰهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أُمَمࣰاۖ مِّنۡهُمُ ٱلصَّـٰلِحُونَ وَمِنۡهُمۡ دُونَ ذَ ٰلِكَۖ وَبَلَوۡنَـٰهُم بِٱلۡحَسَنَـٰتِ وَٱلسَّیِّءَاتِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝١٦٨

Talal Itani (2012)

And We scattered them into communities on earth. Some of them righteous, and some of them short of that. And We tested them with fortunes and misfortunes, so that they may return

waqaṭṭaʿnāhum fī l-arḍi umaman min'humu l-ṣāliḥūna wamin'hum dūna dhālika wabalawnāhum bil-ḥasanāti wal-sayiāti laʿallahum yarjiʿūn

7:169

فَخَلَفَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ خَلۡفࣱ وَرِثُوا۟ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ یَأۡخُذُونَ عَرَضَ هَـٰذَا ٱلۡأَدۡنَىٰ وَیَقُولُونَ سَیُغۡفَرُ لَنَا وَإِن یَأۡتِهِمۡ عَرَضࣱ مِّثۡلُهُۥ یَأۡخُذُوهُۚ أَلَمۡ یُؤۡخَذۡ عَلَیۡهِم مِّیثَـٰقُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ أَن لَّا یَقُولُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلۡحَقَّ وَدَرَسُوا۟ مَا فِیهِۗ وَٱلدَّارُ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةُ خَیۡرࣱ لِّلَّذِینَ یَتَّقُونَۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ ۝١٦٩

Talal Itani (2012)

They were succeeded by generations who inherited the Scripture and chose the materials of this world, saying, 'We will be forgiven.' And should similar materials come their way, they would again seize them. Did they not make a covenant to uphold the Scripture, and to not say about God except the truth? Did they not study its contents? But the Home of the Hereafter is better for the cautious; will you not understand

fakhalafa min baʿdihim khalfun warithū l-kitāba yakhudhūna ʿaraḍa hādhā l-adnā wayaqūlūna sayugh'faru lanā wa-in yatihim ʿaraḍun mith'luhu yakhudhūhu alam yu'khadh ʿalayhim mīthāqu l-kitābi an lā yaqūlū ʿalā l-lahi illā l-ḥaqa wadarasū mā fīhi wal-dāru l-ākhiratu khayrun lilladhīna yattaqūna afalā taʿqilūn

7:170

وَٱلَّذِینَ یُمَسِّكُونَ بِٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ وَأَقَامُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ إِنَّا لَا نُضِیعُ أَجۡرَ ٱلۡمُصۡلِحِینَ ۝١٧٠

Those who adhere to the Scripture, and practice prayer—We will not waste the reward of the reformers

wa-alladhīna yumassikūna bil-kitābi wa-aqāmū l-ṣalata innā lā nuḍīʿu ajra l-muṣ'liḥīn

7:171

۞ وَإِذۡ نَتَقۡنَا ٱلۡجَبَلَ فَوۡقَهُمۡ كَأَنَّهُۥ ظُلَّةࣱ وَظَنُّوۤا۟ أَنَّهُۥ وَاقِعُۢ بِهِمۡ خُذُوا۟ مَاۤ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰكُم بِقُوَّةࣲ وَٱذۡكُرُوا۟ مَا فِیهِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَتَّقُونَ ۝١٧١

Talal Itani (2012)

And when We suspended the mountain over them, as if it was an umbrella, and they thought it would fall on them: 'Hold fast to what We have given you, and remember what it contains, so that you may be saved.'

wa-idh nataqnā l-jabala fawqahum ka-annahu ẓullatun waẓannū annahu wāqiʿun bihim khudhū mā ātaynākum biquwwatin wa-udh'kurū mā fīhi laʿallakum tattaqūn

7:172

وَإِذۡ أَخَذَ رَبُّكَ مِنۢ بَنِیۤ ءَادَمَ مِن ظُهُورِهِمۡ ذُرِّیَّتَهُمۡ وَأَشۡهَدَهُمۡ عَلَىٰۤ أَنفُسِهِمۡ أَلَسۡتُ بِرَبِّكُمۡۖ قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ شَهِدۡنَاۤۚ أَن تَقُولُوا۟ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ إِنَّا كُنَّا عَنۡ هَـٰذَا غَـٰفِلِینَ ۝١٧٢

And when Your Lord summoned the descendants of Adam, and made them testify about themselves. 'Am I not your Lord?' They said, 'Yes, we testify.' Thus you cannot say on the Day of Resurrection, 'We were unaware of this.'

wa-idh akhadha rabbuka min banī ādama min ẓuhūrihim dhurriyyatahum wa-ashhadahum ʿalā anfusihim alastu birabbikum qālū balā shahid'nā an taqūlū yawma l-qiyāmati innā kunnā ʿan hādhā ghāfilīn

7:173

أَوۡ تَقُولُوۤا۟ إِنَّمَاۤ أَشۡرَكَ ءَابَاۤؤُنَا مِن قَبۡلُ وَكُنَّا ذُرِّیَّةࣰ مِّنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡۖ أَفَتُهۡلِكُنَا بِمَا فَعَلَ ٱلۡمُبۡطِلُونَ ۝١٧٣

Nor can you Say, 'Our ancestors practiced idolatry before; and we are their descendants who came after them; will you destroy us for what the falsifiers did?'

aw taqūlū innamā ashraka ābāunā min qablu wakunnā dhurriyyatan min baʿdihim afatuh'likunā bimā faʿala l-mub'ṭilūn

7:174

وَكَذَ ٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ ٱلۡءَایَـٰتِ وَلَعَلَّهُمۡ یَرۡجِعُونَ ۝١٧٤

We thus elaborate the revelations, so that they may return

wakadhālika nufaṣṣilu l-āyāti walaʿallahum yarjiʿūn

7:175

وَٱتۡلُ عَلَیۡهِمۡ نَبَأَ ٱلَّذِیۤ ءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُ ءَایَـٰتِنَا فَٱنسَلَخَ مِنۡهَا فَأَتۡبَعَهُ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنُ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡغَاوِینَ ۝١٧٥

And relate to them the story of him to whom We delivered Our signs, but he detached himself from them, so Satan went after him, and he became one of the perverts

wa-ut'lu ʿalayhim naba-a alladhī ātaynāhu āyātinā fa-insalakha min'hā fa-atbaʿahu l-shayṭānu fakāna mina l-ghāwīn

7:176

وَلَوۡ شِئۡنَا لَرَفَعۡنَـٰهُ بِهَا وَلَـٰكِنَّهُۥۤ أَخۡلَدَ إِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَٱتَّبَعَ هَوَىٰهُۚ فَمَثَلُهُۥ كَمَثَلِ ٱلۡكَلۡبِ إِن تَحۡمِلۡ عَلَیۡهِ یَلۡهَثۡ أَوۡ تَتۡرُكۡهُ یَلۡهَثۚ ذَّ ٰلِكَ مَثَلُ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَاۚ فَٱقۡصُصِ ٱلۡقَصَصَ لَعَلَّهُمۡ یَتَفَكَّرُونَ ۝١٧٦

Talal Itani (2012)

Had We willed, We could have elevated him through them; but he clung to the ground, and followed his desires. His metaphor is that of a dog: if you chase it, it pants; and if you leave it alone, it pants. Such is the metaphor of the people who deny Our signs. So tell the tale, so that they may ponder

walaw shi'nā larafaʿnāhu bihā walākinnahu akhlada ilā l-arḍi wa-ittabaʿa hawāhu famathaluhu kamathali l-kalbi in taḥmil ʿalayhi yalhath aw tatruk'hu yalhath dhālika mathalu l-qawmi alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā fa-uq'ṣuṣi l-qaṣaṣa laʿallahum yatafakkarūn

7:177

سَاۤءَ مَثَلًا ٱلۡقَوۡمُ ٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا وَأَنفُسَهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ یَظۡلِمُونَ ۝١٧٧

Talal Itani (2012)

Evil is the metaphor of the people who reject Our signs and wrong themselves

sāa mathalan l-qawmu alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā wa-anfusahum kānū yaẓlimūn

7:178

مَن یَهۡدِ ٱللَّهُ فَهُوَ ٱلۡمُهۡتَدِیۖ وَمَن یُضۡلِلۡ فَأُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرُونَ ۝١٧٨

Talal Itani (2012)

Whomever God guides is the guided one. And whomever He sends astray—these are the losers

man yahdi l-lahu fahuwa l-muh'tadī waman yuḍ'lil fa-ulāika humu l-khāsirūn

7:179

وَلَقَدۡ ذَرَأۡنَا لِجَهَنَّمَ كَثِیرࣰا مِّنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ وَٱلۡإِنسِۖ لَهُمۡ قُلُوبࣱ لَّا یَفۡقَهُونَ بِهَا وَلَهُمۡ أَعۡیُنࣱ لَّا یُبۡصِرُونَ بِهَا وَلَهُمۡ ءَاذَانࣱ لَّا یَسۡمَعُونَ بِهَاۤۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ كَٱلۡأَنۡعَـٰمِ بَلۡ هُمۡ أَضَلُّۚ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡغَـٰفِلُونَ ۝١٧٩

Talal Itani (2012)

We have destined for Hell multitudes of jinn and humans. They have hearts with which they do not understand. They have eyes with which they do not see. They have ears with which they do not hear. These are like cattle. In fact, they are further astray. These are the heedless

walaqad dharanā lijahannama kathīran mina l-jini wal-insi lahum qulūbun lā yafqahūna bihā walahum aʿyunun lā yub'ṣirūna bihā walahum ādhānun lā yasmaʿūna bihā ulāika kal-anʿāmi bal hum aḍallu ulāika humu l-ghāfilūn

7:180

وَلِلَّهِ ٱلۡأَسۡمَاۤءُ ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ فَٱدۡعُوهُ بِهَاۖ وَذَرُوا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ یُلۡحِدُونَ فِیۤ أَسۡمَـٰۤىِٕهِۦۚ سَیُجۡزَوۡنَ مَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡمَلُونَ ۝١٨٠

Talal Itani (2012)

To God belong the Most Beautiful Names, so call Him by them, and disregard those who blaspheme His names. They will be repaid for what they used to do

walillahi l-asmāu l-ḥus'nā fa-id'ʿūhu bihā wadharū alladhīna yul'ḥidūna fī asmāihi sayuj'zawna mā kānū yaʿmalūn

7:181

وَمِمَّنۡ خَلَقۡنَاۤ أُمَّةࣱ یَهۡدُونَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَبِهِۦ یَعۡدِلُونَ ۝١٨١

Talal Itani (2012)

Among those We created is a community—they guide by truth, and do justice thereby

wamimman khalaqnā ummatun yahdūna bil-ḥaqi wabihi yaʿdilūn

7:182

وَٱلَّذِینَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِءَایَـٰتِنَا سَنَسۡتَدۡرِجُهُم مِّنۡ حَیۡثُ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝١٨٢

Talal Itani (2012)

As for those who reject Our messages, We will gradually lead them from where they do not know

wa-alladhīna kadhabū biāyātinā sanastadrijuhum min ḥaythu lā yaʿlamūn

7:183

وَأُمۡلِی لَهُمۡۚ إِنَّ كَیۡدِی مَتِینٌ ۝١٨٣

Talal Itani (2012)

And I will encourage them. My plan is firm

wa-um'lī lahum inna kaydī matīnu

7:184

أَوَ لَمۡ یَتَفَكَّرُوا۟ۗ مَا بِصَاحِبِهِم مِّن جِنَّةٍۚ إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا نَذِیرࣱ مُّبِینٌ ۝١٨٤

Talal Itani (2012)

Do they not think? There is no madness in their friend. He is but a plain warner

awalam yatafakkarū mā biṣāḥibihim min jinnatin in huwa illā nadhīrun mubīnu

7:185

أَوَ لَمۡ یَنظُرُوا۟ فِی مَلَكُوتِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ مِن شَیۡءࣲ وَأَنۡ عَسَىٰۤ أَن یَكُونَ قَدِ ٱقۡتَرَبَ أَجَلُهُمۡۖ فَبِأَیِّ حَدِیثِۭ بَعۡدَهُۥ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١٨٥

Talal Itani (2012)

Have they not observed the government of the heavens and the earth, and all the things that God created, and that their time may have drawn near? Which message, besides this, will they believe in

awalam yanẓurū fī malakūti l-samāwāti wal-arḍi wamā khalaqa l-lahu min shayin wa-an ʿasā an yakūna qadi iq'taraba ajaluhum fabi-ayyi ḥadīthin baʿdahu yu'minūn

7:186

مَن یُضۡلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَلَا هَادِیَ لَهُۥۚ وَیَذَرُهُمۡ فِی طُغۡیَـٰنِهِمۡ یَعۡمَهُونَ ۝١٨٦

Talal Itani (2012)

Whomever God misguides has no guide. And He leaves them blundering in their transgression.

man yuḍ'lili l-lahu falā hādiya lahu wayadharuhum fī ṭugh'yānihim yaʿmahūn

7:187

یَسۡءَلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ أَیَّانَ مُرۡسَىٰهَاۖ قُلۡ إِنَّمَا عِلۡمُهَا عِندَ رَبِّیۖ لَا یُجَلِّیهَا لِوَقۡتِهَاۤ إِلَّا هُوَۚ ثَقُلَتۡ فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ لَا تَأۡتِیكُمۡ إِلَّا بَغۡتَةࣰۗ یَسۡءَلُونَكَ كَأَنَّكَ حَفِیٌّ عَنۡهَاۖ قُلۡ إِنَّمَا عِلۡمُهَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا یَعۡلَمُونَ ۝١٨٧

Talal Itani (2012)

They ask you about the Hour, 'When will it come?' Say, 'Knowledge of it rests with my Lord. None can reveal its coming except He. It weighs heavily on the heavens and the earth. It will not come upon you except suddenly.' They ask you as if you are responsible for it. Say, 'Knowledge of it rests with God,' but most people do not know

yasalūnaka ʿani l-sāʿati ayyāna mur'sāhā qul innamā ʿil'muhā ʿinda rabbī lā yujallīhā liwaqtihā illā huwa thaqulat fī l-samāwāti wal-arḍi lā tatīkum illā baghtatan yasalūnaka ka-annaka ḥafiyyun ʿanhā qul innamā ʿil'muhā ʿinda l-lahi walākinna akthara l-nāsi lā yaʿlamūn

7:188

قُل لَّاۤ أَمۡلِكُ لِنَفۡسِی نَفۡعࣰا وَلَا ضَرًّا إِلَّا مَا شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُۚ وَلَوۡ كُنتُ أَعۡلَمُ ٱلۡغَیۡبَ لَٱسۡتَكۡثَرۡتُ مِنَ ٱلۡخَیۡرِ وَمَا مَسَّنِیَ ٱلسُّوۤءُۚ إِنۡ أَنَا۠ إِلَّا نَذِیرࣱ وَبَشِیرࣱ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝١٨٨

Talal Itani (2012)

Say, 'I have no control over any benefit or harm to myself, except as God wills. Had I known the future, I would have acquired much good, and no harm would have touched me. I am only a warner, and a herald of good news to a people who believe.'

qul lā amliku linafsī nafʿan walā ḍarran illā mā shāa l-lahu walaw kuntu aʿlamu l-ghayba la-is'takthartu mina l-khayri wamā massaniya l-sūu in anā illā nadhīrun wabashīrun liqawmin yu'minūn

7:189

۞ هُوَ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَكُم مِّن نَّفۡسࣲ وَ ٰحِدَةࣲ وَجَعَلَ مِنۡهَا زَوۡجَهَا لِیَسۡكُنَ إِلَیۡهَاۖ فَلَمَّا تَغَشَّىٰهَا حَمَلَتۡ حَمۡلًا خَفِیفࣰا فَمَرَّتۡ بِهِۦۖ فَلَمَّاۤ أَثۡقَلَت دَّعَوَا ٱللَّهَ رَبَّهُمَا لَىِٕنۡ ءَاتَیۡتَنَا صَـٰلِحࣰا لَّنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلشَّـٰكِرِینَ ۝١٨٩

Talal Itani (2012)

It is He who created you from a single person, and made from it its mate, that he may find comfort with her. Then, when he has covered her, she conceives a light load, and she carries it around. But when she has grown heavy, they pray to God their Lord, 'if You give us a good child, we will be among the thankful.'

huwa alladhī khalaqakum min nafsin wāḥidatin wajaʿala min'hā zawjahā liyaskuna ilayhā falammā taghashāhā ḥamalat ḥamlan khafīfan famarrat bihi falammā athqalat daʿawā l-laha rabbahumā la-in ātaytanā ṣāliḥan lanakūnanna mina l-shākirīn

7:190

فَلَمَّاۤ ءَاتَىٰهُمَا صَـٰلِحࣰا جَعَلَا لَهُۥ شُرَكَاۤءَ فِیمَاۤ ءَاتَىٰهُمَاۚ فَتَعَـٰلَى ٱللَّهُ عَمَّا یُشۡرِكُونَ ۝١٩٠

Talal Itani (2012)

But when He has given them a good child, they attribute partners to Him in what He has given them. God is exalted above what they associate

falammā ātāhumā ṣāliḥan jaʿalā lahu shurakāa fīmā ātāhumā fataʿālā l-lahu ʿammā yush'rikūn

7:191

أَیُشۡرِكُونَ مَا لَا یَخۡلُقُ شَیۡءࣰا وَهُمۡ یُخۡلَقُونَ ۝١٩١

Talal Itani (2012)

Do they idolize those who create nothing, and are themselves created

ayush'rikūna mā lā yakhluqu shayan wahum yukh'laqūn

7:192

وَلَا یَسۡتَطِیعُونَ لَهُمۡ نَصۡرࣰا وَلَاۤ أَنفُسَهُمۡ یَنصُرُونَ ۝١٩٢

Talal Itani (2012)

And can neither help them, nor help their own selves

walā yastaṭīʿūna lahum naṣran walā anfusahum yanṣurūn

7:193

وَإِن تَدۡعُوهُمۡ إِلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰ لَا یَتَّبِعُوكُمۡۚ سَوَاۤءٌ عَلَیۡكُمۡ أَدَعَوۡتُمُوهُمۡ أَمۡ أَنتُمۡ صَـٰمِتُونَ ۝١٩٣

Talal Itani (2012)

And if you invite them to guidance, they will not follow you. It is the same for you, whether you invite them, or remain silent

wa-in tadʿūhum ilā l-hudā lā yattabiʿūkum sawāon ʿalaykum adaʿawtumūhum am antum ṣāmitūn

7:194

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ تَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ عِبَادٌ أَمۡثَالُكُمۡۖ فَٱدۡعُوهُمۡ فَلۡیَسۡتَجِیبُوا۟ لَكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ ۝١٩٤

Talal Itani (2012)

Those you call upon besides God are servants like you. So call upon them, and let them answer you, if you are truthful

inna alladhīna tadʿūna min dūni l-lahi ʿibādun amthālukum fa-id'ʿūhum falyastajībū lakum in kuntum ṣādiqīn

7:195

أَلَهُمۡ أَرۡجُلࣱ یَمۡشُونَ بِهَاۤۖ أَمۡ لَهُمۡ أَیۡدࣲ یَبۡطِشُونَ بِهَاۤۖ أَمۡ لَهُمۡ أَعۡیُنࣱ یُبۡصِرُونَ بِهَاۤۖ أَمۡ لَهُمۡ ءَاذَانࣱ یَسۡمَعُونَ بِهَاۗ قُلِ ٱدۡعُوا۟ شُرَكَاۤءَكُمۡ ثُمَّ كِیدُونِ فَلَا تُنظِرُونِ ۝١٩٥

Do they have feet with which they walk? Or do they have hands with which they strike? Or do they have eyes with which they see? Or do they have ears with which they hear? Say, 'Call upon your partners, then plot against me, and do not wait.'

alahum arjulun yamshūna bihā am lahum aydin yabṭishūna bihā am lahum aʿyunun yub'ṣirūna bihā am lahum ādhānun yasmaʿūna bihā quli id'ʿū shurakāakum thumma kīdūni falā tunẓirūn

7:196

إِنَّ وَلِـِّۧیَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی نَزَّلَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَۖ وَهُوَ یَتَوَلَّى ٱلصَّـٰلِحِینَ ۝١٩٦

'My Master is God, He Who sent down the Book, and He takes care of the righteous.'

inna waliyyiya l-lahu alladhī nazzala l-kitāba wahuwa yatawallā l-ṣāliḥīn

7:197

وَٱلَّذِینَ تَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ لَا یَسۡتَطِیعُونَ نَصۡرَكُمۡ وَلَاۤ أَنفُسَهُمۡ یَنصُرُونَ ۝١٩٧

Those you call upon besides Him cannot help you, nor can they help themselves

wa-alladhīna tadʿūna min dūnihi lā yastaṭīʿūna naṣrakum walā anfusahum yanṣurūn

7:198

وَإِن تَدۡعُوهُمۡ إِلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰ لَا یَسۡمَعُوا۟ۖ وَتَرَىٰهُمۡ یَنظُرُونَ إِلَیۡكَ وَهُمۡ لَا یُبۡصِرُونَ ۝١٩٨

Talal Itani (2012)

And if you call them to guidance, they will not hear. And you see them looking at you, yet they do not see

wa-in tadʿūhum ilā l-hudā lā yasmaʿū watarāhum yanẓurūna ilayka wahum lā yub'ṣirūn

7:199

خُذِ ٱلۡعَفۡوَ وَأۡمُرۡ بِٱلۡعُرۡفِ وَأَعۡرِضۡ عَنِ ٱلۡجَـٰهِلِینَ ۝١٩٩

Be tolerant, and command decency, and avoid the ignorant

khudhi l-ʿafwa wamur bil-ʿur'fi wa-aʿriḍ ʿani l-jāhilīn

7:200

وَإِمَّا یَنزَغَنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنِ نَزۡغࣱ فَٱسۡتَعِذۡ بِٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّهُۥ سَمِیعٌ عَلِیمٌ ۝٢٠٠

And when a suggestion from Satan assails you, take refuge with God. He is Hearing and Knowing

wa-immā yanzaghannaka mina l-shayṭāni nazghun fa-is'taʿidh bil-lahi innahu samīʿun ʿalīmu

7:201

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ ٱتَّقَوۡا۟ إِذَا مَسَّهُمۡ طَـٰۤىِٕفࣱ مِّنَ ٱلشَّیۡطَـٰنِ تَذَكَّرُوا۟ فَإِذَا هُم مُّبۡصِرُونَ ۝٢٠١

Talal Itani (2012)

Those who are righteous—when an impulse from Satan strikes them, they remind themselves, and immediately see clearly

inna alladhīna ittaqaw idhā massahum ṭāifun mina l-shayṭāni tadhakkarū fa-idhā hum mub'ṣirūn

7:202

وَإِخۡوَ ٰنُهُمۡ یَمُدُّونَهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡغَیِّ ثُمَّ لَا یُقۡصِرُونَ ۝٢٠٢

But their brethren lead them relentlessly into error, and they never stop short

wa-ikh'wānuhum yamuddūnahum fī l-ghayi thumma lā yuq'ṣirūn

7:203

وَإِذَا لَمۡ تَأۡتِهِم بِءَایَةࣲ قَالُوا۟ لَوۡلَا ٱجۡتَبَیۡتَهَاۚ قُلۡ إِنَّمَاۤ أَتَّبِعُ مَا یُوحَىٰۤ إِلَیَّ مِن رَّبِّیۚ هَـٰذَا بَصَاۤىِٕرُ مِن رَّبِّكُمۡ وَهُدࣰى وَرَحۡمَةࣱ لِّقَوۡمࣲ یُؤۡمِنُونَ ۝٢٠٣

If you do not produce a miracle for them, they say, 'Why don't you improvise one.' Say, 'I only follow what is inspired to me from my Lord.' These are insights from your Lord, and guidance, and mercy, for a people who believe

wa-idhā lam tatihim biāyatin qālū lawlā ij'tabaytahā qul innamā attabiʿu mā yūḥā ilayya min rabbī hādhā baṣāiru min rabbikum wahudan waraḥmatun liqawmin yu'minūn

7:204

وَإِذَا قُرِئَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانُ فَٱسۡتَمِعُوا۟ لَهُۥ وَأَنصِتُوا۟ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُرۡحَمُونَ ۝٢٠٤

When the Quran is recited, listen to it, and pay attention, so that you may experience mercy

wa-idhā quri-a l-qur'ānu fa-is'tamiʿū lahu wa-anṣitū laʿallakum tur'ḥamūn

7:205

وَٱذۡكُر رَّبَّكَ فِی نَفۡسِكَ تَضَرُّعࣰا وَخِیفَةࣰ وَدُونَ ٱلۡجَهۡرِ مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡلِ بِٱلۡغُدُوِّ وَٱلۡءَاصَالِ وَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلۡغَـٰفِلِینَ ۝٢٠٥

Talal Itani (2012)

And remember your Lord within yourself, humbly and fearfully, and quietly, in the morning and the evening, and do not be of the neglectful

wa-udh'kur rabbaka fī nafsika taḍarruʿan wakhīfatan wadūna l-jahri mina l-qawli bil-ghuduwi wal-āṣāli walā takun mina l-ghāfilīn

7:206

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِینَ عِندَ رَبِّكَ لَا یَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ عَنۡ عِبَادَتِهِۦ وَیُسَبِّحُونَهُۥ وَلَهُۥ یَ̅سۡ̅جُ̅دُ̅و̅نَ̅ ۝٢٠٦ ۩

Those who are in the presence of your Lord are not too proud to worship Him. They recite His praises, and to Him they bow down

inna alladhīna ʿinda rabbika lā yastakbirūna ʿan ʿibādatihi wayusabbiḥūnahu walahu yasjudūn
