1 Truth of the Resurrection
75:1 ›
۞ لَاۤ أُقۡسِمُ بِیَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ ۝١
Ahmed Ali
I CALL TO WITNESS the Day of Resurrection
lā uq'simu biyawmi l-qiyāmat
75:2 ›
وَلَاۤ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلنَّفۡسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ ۝٢
Ahmed Ali
And I call the reprehensive soul to witness
walā uq'simu bil-nafsi l-lawāmat
75:3 ›
أَیَحۡسَبُ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجۡمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ ۝٣
Ahmed Ali
Does man think We shall not put his bones together
ayaḥsabu l-insānu allan najmaʿa ʿiẓāmah
75:4 ›
بَلَىٰ قَـٰدِرِینَ عَلَىٰۤ أَن نُّسَوِّیَ بَنَانَهُۥ ۝٤
Ahmed Ali
Surely We are able to reform even his finger-tips
balā qādirīna ʿalā an nusawwiya banānah
75:5 ›
بَلۡ یُرِیدُ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ لِیَفۡجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ ۝٥
Ahmed Ali
Yet man is sceptical of what is right before him
bal yurīdu l-insānu liyafjura amāmah
75:6 ›
یَسۡءَلُ أَیَّانَ یَوۡمُ ٱلۡقِیَـٰمَةِ ۝٦
Ahmed Ali
He asks: "When will the Day of Resurrection be?"
yasalu ayyāna yawmu l-qiyāmat
75:7 ›
فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلۡبَصَرُ ۝٧
Ahmed Ali
Yet when the eyes are dazzled
fa-idhā bariqa l-baṣar
75:8 ›
وَخَسَفَ ٱلۡقَمَرُ ۝٨
Ahmed Ali
The moon eclipsed
wakhasafa l-qamar
75:9 ›
وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمۡسُ وَٱلۡقَمَرُ ۝٩
Ahmed Ali
And the sun and moon are conjoined
wajumiʿa l-shamsu wal-qamar
75:10 ›
یَقُولُ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ یَوۡمَىِٕذٍ أَیۡنَ ٱلۡمَفَرُّ ۝١٠
Ahmed Ali
That day man will say: "Where can I find escape?"
yaqūlu l-insānu yawma-idhin ayna l-mafar
75:11 ›
كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ ۝١١
Ahmed Ali
Never so, for there will be no escape
kallā lā wazar
75:12 ›
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ یَوۡمَىِٕذٍ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقَرُّ ۝١٢
Ahmed Ali
With your Lord alone will be the retreat on that day
ilā rabbika yawma-idhin l-mus'taqar
75:13 ›
یُنَبَّؤُا۟ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ یَوۡمَىِٕذِۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ ۝١٣
Ahmed Ali
Then man will be told what he had sent ahead (of good) and what he had left behind
yunabba-u l-insānu yawma-idhin bimā qaddama wa-akhar
75:14 ›
بَلِ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفۡسِهِۦ بَصِیرَةࣱ ۝١٤
Ahmed Ali
In fact man is a witness against himself
bali l-insānu ʿalā nafsihi baṣīratu
75:15 ›
وَلَوۡ أَلۡقَىٰ مَعَاذِیرَهُۥ ۝١٥
Ahmed Ali
Whatever the excuses he may offer
walaw alqā maʿādhīrah
75:16 ›
لَا تُحَرِّكۡ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعۡجَلَ بِهِۦۤ ۝١٦
Ahmed Ali
Do not forestall (the revelation before its completion) by acting in haste
lā tuḥarrik bihi lisānaka litaʿjala bih
75:17 ›
إِنَّ عَلَیۡنَا جَمۡعَهُۥ وَقُرۡءَانَهُۥ ۝١٧
Ahmed Ali
Surely its collection and recitation are Our responsibility
inna ʿalaynā jamʿahu waqur'ānah
75:18 ›
فَإِذَا قَرَأۡنَـٰهُ فَٱتَّبِعۡ قُرۡءَانَهُۥ ۝١٨
Ahmed Ali
So, as We recite it, follow its reading
fa-idhā qaranāhu fa-ittabiʿ qur'ānah
75:19 ›
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَیۡنَا بَیَانَهُۥ ۝١٩
Ahmed Ali
The exposition of its meaning surely rests on Us
thumma inna ʿalaynā bayānah
75:20 ›
كَلَّا بَلۡ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡعَاجِلَةَ ۝٢٠
Ahmed Ali
But no. You love this transient life
kallā bal tuḥibbūna l-ʿājilat
75:21 ›
وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلۡءَاخِرَةَ ۝٢١
Ahmed Ali
And neglect the Hereafter
watadharūna l-ākhirat
75:22 ›
وُجُوهࣱ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ نَّاضِرَةٌ ۝٢٢
Ahmed Ali
How many faces will be refulgent on that Day
wujūhun yawma-idhin nāḍiratu
75:23 ›
إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةࣱ ۝٢٣
Ahmed Ali
Waiting for their Lord
ilā rabbihā nāẓiratu
75:24 ›
وَوُجُوهࣱ یَوۡمَىِٕذِۭ بَاسِرَةࣱ ۝٢٤
Ahmed Ali
And how many faces on that Day will be woe-begon
wawujūhun yawma-idhin bāsiratu
75:25 ›
تَظُنُّ أَن یُفۡعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةࣱ ۝٢٥
Ahmed Ali
Fearing that a great disaster is going to befall them
taẓunnu an yuf'ʿala bihā fāqiratu
75:26 ›
كَلَّاۤ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِیَ ۝٢٦
Ahmed Ali
Never so, for when life withdraws into the clavicula
kallā idhā balaghati l-tarāqiy
75:27 ›
وَقِیلَ مَنۡۜ رَاقࣲ ۝٢٧
Ahmed Ali
And it is asked: "Is there any reciter of charms and amulets?"
waqīla man rāqi
75:28 ›
وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلۡفِرَاقُ ۝٢٨
Ahmed Ali
He will then realise it is the parting
waẓanna annahu l-firāq
75:29 ›
وَٱلۡتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ ۝٢٩
Ahmed Ali
And anguish will be heaped upon anguish
wal-tafati l-sāqu bil-sāq
75:30 ›
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ یَوۡمَىِٕذٍ ٱلۡمَسَاقُ ۝٣٠
Ahmed Ali
To your Lord then will be the driving
ilā rabbika yawma-idhin l-masāq
2 The Dead Rise
75:31 ›
فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ ۝٣١
Ahmed Ali
For he neither believed nor prayed
falā ṣaddaqa walā ṣall
75:32 ›
وَلَـٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ ۝٣٢
Ahmed Ali
But only disavowed and turned away
walākin kadhaba watawall
75:33 ›
ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰۤ أَهۡلِهِۦ یَتَمَطَّىٰۤ ۝٣٣
Ahmed Ali
Then he strutted back to his people
thumma dhahaba ilā ahlihi yatamaṭṭ
75:34 ›
أَوۡلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوۡلَىٰ ۝٣٤
Ahmed Ali
Alas the woe for you, alas
awlā laka fa-awl
75:35 ›
ثُمَّ أَوۡلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوۡلَىٰۤ ۝٣٥
Ahmed Ali
Alas, the woe for you
thumma awlā laka fa-awl
75:36 ›
أَیَحۡسَبُ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ أَن یُتۡرَكَ سُدًى ۝٣٦
Ahmed Ali
Does man think that he will be left alone to himself, free
ayaḥsabu l-insānu an yut'raka suda
75:37 ›
أَلَمۡ یَكُ نُطۡفَةࣰ مِّن مَّنِیࣲّ یُمۡنَىٰ ۝٣٧
Ahmed Ali
Was he not an emitted drop of semen
alam yaku nuṭ'fatan min maniyyin yum'n
75:38 ›
ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةࣰ فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ ۝٣٨
Ahmed Ali
Then formed into an embryo? Then He fashioned, shaped and proportione
thumma kāna ʿalaqatan fakhalaqa fasaww
75:39 ›
فَجَعَلَ مِنۡهُ ٱلزَّوۡجَیۡنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰۤ ۝٣٩
Ahmed Ali
And assigned it sexes, male and female
fajaʿala min'hu l-zawjayni l-dhakara wal-unth
75:40 ›
أَلَیۡسَ ذَ ٰلِكَ بِقَـٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰۤ أَن یُحۡـِۧیَ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ ۝٤٠
Ahmed Ali
Cannot such as He bring the dead to life
alaysa dhālika biqādirin ʿalā an yuḥ'yiya l-mawt
