76:1 ›
هَلۡ أَتَىٰ عَلَى ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنِ حِینࣱ مِّنَ ٱلدَّهۡرِ لَمۡ یَكُن شَیۡءࣰا مَّذۡكُورًا ۝١
Shabbir Ahmed
Has there not passed over man an era when he was not even worth mentioning
hal atā ʿalā l-insāni ḥīnun mina l-dahri lam yakun shayan madhkūra
76:2 ›
إِنَّا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ أَمۡشَاجࣲ نَّبۡتَلِیهِ فَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُ سَمِیعَۢا بَصِیرًا ۝٢
Shabbir Ahmed
Behold, it is We who have created the human being from marked out cells, male and female gametes, that joined. Then We passed him through subtle changes. And then We made him a being endowed with Hearing and Sight
innā khalaqnā l-insāna min nuṭ'fatin amshājin nabtalīhi fajaʿalnāhu samīʿan baṣīra
76:3 ›
إِنَّا هَدَیۡنَـٰهُ ٱلسَّبِیلَ إِمَّا شَاكِرࣰا وَإِمَّا كَفُورًا ۝٣
Shabbir Ahmed
Verily, We it is Who have shown him the Way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful
innā hadaynāhu l-sabīla immā shākiran wa-immā kafūra
76:4 ›
إِنَّاۤ أَعۡتَدۡنَا لِلۡكَـٰفِرِینَ سَلَـٰسِلَا۟ وَأَغۡلَـٰلࣰا وَسَعِیرًا ۝٤
Shabbir Ahmed
Behold, for those who deny the Truth we have readied chains and shackles and a blazing flame. (Chains and shackles of conjecture, blind following and superstition, and the fire of confusion and regret are the logical consequences of relegating the Truth (7:157))
innā aʿtadnā lil'kāfirīna salāsilā wa-aghlālan wasaʿīra
76:5 ›
إِنَّ ٱلۡأَبۡرَارَ یَشۡرَبُونَ مِن كَأۡسࣲ كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا كَافُورًا ۝٥
Shabbir Ahmed
Behold, the truly virtuous will drink from a cup sweetened with nectar of flowers. ('Kafur' = Camphor = Cool temperament = Nectar from the calyx of grape as it flowers = Sweet and fragrant drink of Divine Bliss)
inna l-abrāra yashrabūna min kasin kāna mizājuhā kāfūra
76:6 ›
عَیۡنࣰا یَشۡرَبُ بِهَا عِبَادُ ٱللَّهِ یُفَجِّرُونَهَا تَفۡجِیرࣰا ۝٦
Shabbir Ahmed
A spring whereof the servants of Allah drink - it is they who make it flow in a flow abundant. (The true servants of Allah achieve His blessings of Guidance and all that is good, and share them with fellow human beings)
yūfūna bil-nadhri wayakhāfūna yawman kāna sharruhu mus'taṭīra
76:7 ›
یُوفُونَ بِٱلنَّذۡرِ وَیَخَافُونَ یَوۡمࣰا كَانَ شَرُّهُۥ مُسۡتَطِیرࣰا ۝٧
Shabbir Ahmed
They fulfill their vows and pledges and fear (and therefore, guard against) the times when chaos and corruption might sweep the society
Yoofoona bialnnathri wayakhafoona yawman kana sharruhu mustateeran
76:8 ›
وَیُطۡعِمُونَ ٱلطَّعَامَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِۦ مِسۡكِینࣰا وَیَتِیمࣰا وَأَسِیرًا ۝٨
Shabbir Ahmed
And they feed, for the love of nobility, the indigent, the orphan and the captive
wayuṭ'ʿimūna l-ṭaʿāma ʿalā ḥubbihi mis'kīnan wayatīman wa-asīra
76:9 ›
إِنَّمَا نُطۡعِمُكُمۡ لِوَجۡهِ ٱللَّهِ لَا نُرِیدُ مِنكُمۡ جَزَاۤءࣰ وَلَا شُكُورًا ۝٩
Shabbir Ahmed
(They do all this selflessly) saying, "We provide for you for the sake of Allah alone. We want no return from you, not even a word of thanks
innamā nuṭ'ʿimukum liwajhi l-lahi lā nurīdu minkum jazāan walā shukūra
76:10 ›
إِنَّا نَخَافُ مِن رَّبِّنَا یَوۡمًا عَبُوسࣰا قَمۡطَرِیرࣰا ۝١٠
Shabbir Ahmed
Behold, we stand in awe of our Lord to ward off the times when the society might become a picture of frown and distress."
innā nakhāfu min rabbinā yawman ʿabūsan qamṭarīra
76:11 ›
فَوَقَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ شَرَّ ذَ ٰلِكَ ٱلۡیَوۡمِ وَلَقَّىٰهُمۡ نَضۡرَةࣰ وَسُرُورࣰا ۝١١
Shabbir Ahmed
Hence, Allah wards off from them the chaos of those times, and showers on them inner splendor and delight. ('Yaum' = Day = Stage = Times = Era = Eventuality = The Resurrection Day)
fawaqāhumu l-lahu sharra dhālika l-yawmi walaqqāhum naḍratan wasurūra
76:12 ›
وَجَزَىٰهُم بِمَا صَبَرُوا۟ جَنَّةࣰ وَحَرِیرࣰا ۝١٢
Shabbir Ahmed
And for their steadfastness He rewards them with a Garden of Bliss and garments of silk (honor)
wajazāhum bimā ṣabarū jannatan waḥarīra
76:13 ›
مُّتَّكِءِینَ فِیهَا عَلَى ٱلۡأَرَاۤىِٕكِۖ لَا یَرَوۡنَ فِیهَا شَمۡسࣰا وَلَا زَمۡهَرِیرࣰا ۝١٣
Shabbir Ahmed
Relaxing therein on beautiful furnishings, they neither find a hot sun nor chill
muttakiīna fīhā ʿalā l-arāiki lā yarawna fīhā shamsan walā zamharīra
76:14 ›
وَدَانِیَةً عَلَیۡهِمۡ ظِلَـٰلُهَا وَذُلِّلَتۡ قُطُوفُهَا تَذۡلِیلࣰا ۝١٤
Shabbir Ahmed
Pleasant shades close upon them and clusters of fruits reach them low
wadāniyatan ʿalayhim ẓilāluhā wadhullilat quṭūfuhā tadhlīla
76:15 ›
وَیُطَافُ عَلَیۡهِم بِءَانِیَةࣲ مِّن فِضَّةࣲ وَأَكۡوَابࣲ كَانَتۡ قَوَارِیرَا۠ ۝١٥
Shabbir Ahmed
And they are served with goblets of silver and cups of crystal
wayuṭāfu ʿalayhim biāniyatin min fiḍḍatin wa-akwābin kānat qawārīr
76:16 ›
قَوَارِیرَا۟ مِن فِضَّةࣲ قَدَّرُوهَا تَقۡدِیرࣰا ۝١٦
Shabbir Ahmed
Silver trays shining as crystal - all this design they have determined (with their good deeds)
qawārīrā min fiḍḍatin qaddarūhā taqdīra
76:17 ›
وَیُسۡقَوۡنَ فِیهَا كَأۡسࣰا كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا زَنجَبِیلًا ۝١٧
Shabbir Ahmed
And delicious invigorating drinks they shall be given. (43:71), (76:5), (83:27). Camphor: an allegory for cool relaxation, and ginger: warmth and action)
wayus'qawna fīhā kasan kāna mizājuhā zanjabīla
76:18 ›
عَیۡنࣰا فِیهَا تُسَمَّىٰ سَلۡسَبِیلࣰا ۝١٨
Shabbir Ahmed
From therein a spring named Salsabil. The water thereof seeks its own way to them. ((88:12). Salsabil = Find your way to them)
wayaṭūfu ʿalayhim wil'dānun mukhalladūna idhā ra-aytahum ḥasib'tahum lu'lu-an manthūra
76:19 ›
۞ وَیَطُوفُ عَلَیۡهِمۡ وِلۡدَ ٰنࣱ مُّخَلَّدُونَ إِذَا رَأَیۡتَهُمۡ حَسِبۡتَهُمۡ لُؤۡلُؤࣰا مَّنثُورࣰا ۝١٩
Shabbir Ahmed
And their children, immortal, playing around, lovely as pearls when you see them
Wayatoofu AAalayhim wildanun mukhalladoona itha raaytahum hasibtahum lu/lu-an manthooran
76:20 ›
وَإِذَا رَأَیۡتَ ثَمَّ رَأَیۡتَ نَعِیمࣰا وَمُلۡكࣰا كَبِیرًا ۝٢٠
Shabbir Ahmed
And whenever you look around there you see Bliss and a Magnificent Kingdom
wa-idhā ra-ayta thamma ra-ayta naʿīman wamul'kan kabīra
76:21 ›
عَـٰلِیَهُمۡ ثِیَابُ سُندُسٍ خُضۡرࣱ وَإِسۡتَبۡرَقࣱۖ وَحُلُّوۤا۟ أَسَاوِرَ مِن فِضَّةࣲ وَسَقَىٰهُمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ شَرَابࣰا طَهُورًا ۝٢١
Shabbir Ahmed
Upon them will be garments of green silk with gold embroidery, and they will be honored with bracelets of silver. And their Lord will give them pure refreshing drinks
inna hādhā kāna lakum jazāan wakāna saʿyukum mashkūra
76:22 ›
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا كَانَ لَكُمۡ جَزَاۤءࣰ وَكَانَ سَعۡیُكُم مَّشۡكُورًا ۝٢٢
Shabbir Ahmed
Behold! All this is your Reward since your effort has found a befitting Acceptance
Inna hatha kana lakum jazaan wakana saAAyukum mashkooran
2 Another Generation raised
76:23 ›
إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نَزَّلۡنَا عَلَیۡكَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ تَنزِیلࣰا ۝٢٣
Shabbir Ahmed
Behold, We, yes, We have revealed unto you the Qur'an step by step, a Revelation from Us
innā naḥnu nazzalnā ʿalayka l-qur'āna tanzīla
76:24 ›
فَٱصۡبِرۡ لِحُكۡمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تُطِعۡ مِنۡهُمۡ ءَاثِمًا أَوۡ كَفُورࣰا ۝٢٤
Shabbir Ahmed
Therefore, hold on to your Lord's Command unwaveringly. And heed not of them any dragger of progress or devotee of darkness. ('Athim' = One who drags or pulls down progress)
fa-iṣ'bir liḥuk'mi rabbika walā tuṭiʿ min'hum āthiman aw kafūra
76:25 ›
وَٱذۡكُرِ ٱسۡمَ رَبِّكَ بُكۡرَةࣰ وَأَصِیلࣰا ۝٢٥
Shabbir Ahmed
Raise the Name of your Lord morning and evening. ('Zikr' = Remembrance = Commemoration = Raise = Celebration = Magnify = Give eminence = Taking to heart = Keeping in mind)
wa-udh'kuri is'ma rabbika buk'ratan wa-aṣīla
76:26 ›
وَمِنَ ٱلَّیۡلِ فَٱسۡجُدۡ لَهُۥ وَسَبِّحۡهُ لَیۡلࣰا طَوِیلًا ۝٢٦
Shabbir Ahmed
Adore Him even at night and strive to establish His Glory on earth through long nights (as you do morning and evening)
wamina al-layli fa-us'jud lahu wasabbiḥ'hu laylan ṭawīla
76:27 ›
إِنَّ هَـٰۤؤُلَاۤءِ یُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡعَاجِلَةَ وَیَذَرُونَ وَرَاۤءَهُمۡ یَوۡمࣰا ثَقِیلࣰا ۝٢٧
Shabbir Ahmed
Behold, these people love only the instant gains and as a result leave behind a yesterday laden (with transgressions and wasted opportunities of doing good)
inna hāulāi yuḥibbūna l-ʿājilata wayadharūna warāahum yawman thaqīla
76:28 ›
نَّحۡنُ خَلَقۡنَـٰهُمۡ وَشَدَدۡنَاۤ أَسۡرَهُمۡۖ وَإِذَا شِئۡنَا بَدَّلۡنَاۤ أَمۡثَـٰلَهُمۡ تَبۡدِیلًا ۝٢٨
Shabbir Ahmed
(Who gave them the mind and body to behave the way they choose?) We it is Who have created them, and strengthened their frame. And if We Will, We can replace them entirely with other nations. (Nations who will use their human potentials better. (70:41))
naḥnu khalaqnāhum washadadnā asrahum wa-idhā shi'nā baddalnā amthālahum tabdīla
76:29 ›
إِنَّ هَـٰذِهِۦ تَذۡكِرَةࣱۖ فَمَن شَاۤءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ سَبِیلࣰا ۝٢٩
Shabbir Ahmed
Behold, this is an Advisory that whoever wants, may choose a Way to his Lord
inna hādhihi tadhkiratun faman shāa ittakhadha ilā rabbihi sabīla
76:30 ›
وَمَا تَشَاۤءُونَ إِلَّاۤ أَن یَشَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِیمًا حَكِیمࣰا ۝٣٠
Shabbir Ahmed
Yet, you cannot will it unless you align your free will with the Will of Allah. (Guidance can only be achieved according to Divine Laws (4:88)). For, behold, Allah is Knower, Wise
wamā tashāūna illā an yashāa l-lahu inna l-laha kāna ʿalīman ḥakīma
76:31 ›
یُدۡخِلُ مَن یَشَاۤءُ فِی رَحۡمَتِهِۦۚ وَٱلظَّـٰلِمِینَ أَعَدَّ لَهُمۡ عَذَابًا أَلِیمَۢا ۝٣١
Shabbir Ahmed
He admits into His Grace everyone who wills to be admitted. But, for those who wrong their 'Self' by making wrong decisions, He has prepared an awful doom. ('Zulm' = Wrongdoing = Being unjust to others or to one's own 'Self' = Oppression = Relegation of Truth = Displacing anything from its rightful place = Violation of human rights = Transgression)
yud'khilu man yashāu fī raḥmatihi wal-ẓālimīna aʿadda lahum ʿadhāban alīma
