1 The Daybreak

وَالْفَجْرِ

Amatul Rahman Omar

I call to witness (all the times and places specially important for the acceptance of prayers including) the dawn (of the twentieth of Ramadzan)

وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ

Amatul Rahman Omar

And the (last) ten Nights (of Ramadzan)

Walayalin AAashrin

وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ

Amatul Rahman Omar

And (the Prayers which consist of) the even and odd (number of Rak`ats performed during these nights)

WaalshshafAAi waalwatri

وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ

Amatul Rahman Omar

And the Night (- Lailatul-Qadr, the Blessed Night), when it moves on (to its close)

Waallayli itha yasri

هَلْ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِي حِجْرٍ

Amatul Rahman Omar

In it there is surely a strong evidence for one who has sense and understanding

Hal fee thalika qasamun lithee hijrin

أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ

Amatul Rahman Omar

Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with `a

Alam tara kayfa faAAala rabbuka biAAadin

إِرَمَ ذَاتِ الْعِمَادِ

Amatul Rahman Omar

Of Iram, possessors of tall statures and lofty columns

Irama thati alAAimadi

الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلَادِ

Amatul Rahman Omar

The like of whom have not been created in these parts of land

Allatee lam yukhlaq mithluha fee albiladi

وَثَمُودَ الَّذِينَ جَابُوا الصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِ

Amatul Rahman Omar

And (how He dealt with the tribe of) Thamud who hewed out huge rocks in the valley (to make their housings)

Wathamooda allatheena jaboo alssakhra bialwadi

وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِي الْأَوْتَادِ

Amatul Rahman Omar

And (how He dealt with) Pharaoh, lord of vast hosts

WafirAAawna thee al-awtadi

الَّذِينَ طَغَوْا فِي الْبِلَادِ

Amatul Rahman Omar

(All these people were) those who committed (all sort of) excesses in the cities

Allatheena taghaw fee albiladi

فَأَكْثَرُوا فِيهَا الْفَسَادَ

Amatul Rahman Omar

And they spread a lot of corruption and lawlessness therein

Faaktharoo feeha alfasada

فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ

Amatul Rahman Omar

(So much) so that your Lord let loose on them the scourge and various kinds of punishments

Fasabba AAalayhim rabbuka sawta AAathabin

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِ

Amatul Rahman Omar

Behold! your God is always on the watch

Inna rabbaka labialmirsadi

فَأَمَّا الْإِنسَانُ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَأَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَكْرَمَنِ

Amatul Rahman Omar

Moreover a human being is such that when his Lord disciplines him (by prosperity) and (thus) honours him and bestows favours on him, he says, `My Lord has honoured me.

Faamma al-insanu itha ma ibtalahu rabbuhu faakramahu wanaAAAAamahu fayaqoolu rabbee akramani

وَأَمَّا إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَهَانَنِ

Amatul Rahman Omar

And when He disciplines him (with affliction) and (thus) straitens for him his (means of) subsistence, he says, `My Lord has (for no reason) disgraced me.

Waamma itha ma ibtalahu faqadara AAalayhi rizqahu fayaqoolu rabbee ahanani

كَلَّا بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ الْيَتِيمَ

Amatul Rahman Omar

Nay, (what you think is wrong,) but (the reason for this degradation is that) you (for your part) do not honour the orphan

Kalla bal la tukrimoona alyateema

وَلَا تَحَاضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ

Amatul Rahman Omar

And you do not urge one another to feed the poor

Wala tahaddoona AAala taAAami almiskeeni

وَتَأْكُلُونَ التُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا

Amatul Rahman Omar

And you devour the heritage (of others) wholly and indiscriminately

Wata/kuloona altturatha aklan lamman

وَتُحِبُّونَ الْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا

Amatul Rahman Omar

And you are exceedingly fond of wealth

Watuhibboona almala hubban jamman

كَلَّا إِذَا دُكَّتِ الْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا

Amatul Rahman Omar

By no means (will it be so as you think). When the earth is completely crushed into pieces

Kalla itha dukkati al-ardu dakkan dakkan

وَجَاءَ رَبُّكَ وَالْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا

Amatul Rahman Omar

And when (the judgment of) your Lord comes (to pass), and the angels (descend also) ranged rank on rank (to execute His decree)

Wajaa rabbuka waalmalaku saffan saffan

وَجِيءَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنسَانُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ

Amatul Rahman Omar

On that Day Gehenna shall be brought near. (It is) on that very Day that a person will remember (the admonition), but of what avail shall that remembrance be to him (at that time)

Wajee-a yawma-ithin bijahannama yawma-ithin yatathakkaru al-insanu waanna lahu alththikra

يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي

Amatul Rahman Omar

He will say, `O would that I had sent forward (some good deeds as a provision) for this my life here (on this side).

Yaqoolu ya laytanee qaddamtu lihayatee

فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُ أَحَدٌ

Amatul Rahman Omar

So on that day none but He shall execute His punishment

Fayawma-ithin la yuAAaththibu AAathabahu ahadun

وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُ أَحَدٌ

Amatul Rahman Omar

And no one but He shall bind like His binding

Wala yoothiqu wathaqahu ahadun

يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ

Amatul Rahman Omar

(As for the person who has been blessed with a contented and peaceful mind He will say to him,) `O you soul at peace

Ya ayyatuha alnnafsu almutma-innatu

ارْجِعِي إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً

Amatul Rahman Omar

`Come back to your Lord well-pleased with Him and He well-pleased with you

IrjiAAee ila rabbiki radiyatan mardiyyatan

فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي

Amatul Rahman Omar

`Enter the fold of My chosen servants

Faodkhulee fee AAibadee

وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي

Amatul Rahman Omar

`And enter the Garden made by Me.

Waodkhulee jannatee
