89:1 ›
وَالْفَجْرِ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
By the emerging dawn (that dispels the darkness of night),
Waalfajri
89:2 ›
وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
And by the ten (blessed) nights,
Walayalin AAashrin
89:3 ›
وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
And by the even and the odd,
WaalshshafAAi waalwatri
89:4 ›
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
And by the night as it departs. (Every night or particularly the night of Muzdalifa or the night of Qadr.
Waallayli itha yasri
89:5 ›
هَلْ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِي حِجْرٍ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
Surely, in that is a mighty oath for the wise
Hal fee thalika qasamun lithee hijrin
89:6 ›
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
Have you not seen how your Lord treated (the people of ‘Ad)
Alam tara kayfa faAAala rabbuka biAAadin
89:7 ›
إِرَمَ ذَاتِ الْعِمَادِ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
(They) were (the people) of Iram (and) were (tall like) lofty columns (possessing towering castles)
Irama thati alAAimadi
89:8 ›
الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلَادِ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
The like of which has not (at all) been created in the countries (of the world)
Allatee lam yukhlaq mithluha fee albiladi
89:9 ›
وَثَمُودَ الَّذِينَ جَابُوا الصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
And (what treatment was given to) Thamud, who carved rocks (and constructed hundreds of cities) in the (Qura) valley
Wathamooda allatheena jaboo alssakhra bialwadi
89:10 ›
وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِي الْأَوْتَادِ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
And (how was) Pharaoh (dealt with), who wielded large armies (and used to punish victims with stakes)
WafirAAawna thee al-awtadi
89:11 ›
الَّذِينَ طَغَوْا فِي الْبِلَادِ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
(They were) the people who perpetrated tyranny in their (respective) countries
Allatheena taghaw fee albiladi
89:12 ›
فَأَكْثَرُوا فِيهَا الْفَسَادَ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
And spread great mischief and corruption there
Faaktharoo feeha alfasada
89:13 ›
فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
Then your Lord unleashed the scourge of punishment on them
Fasabba AAalayhim rabbuka sawta AAathabin
89:14 ›
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
Indeed, your Lord is Ever-Watchful (over the tyrant transgressors)
Inna rabbaka labialmirsadi
89:15 ›
فَأَمَّا الْإِنسَانُ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَأَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَكْرَمَنِ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
But as for man, when his Lord tests him (by providing him pleasure and comfort) and honours him and gives him bounties, he says: ‘My Lord has honoured me.
Faamma al-insanu itha ma ibtalahu rabbuhu faakramahu wanaAAAAamahu fayaqoolu rabbee akramani
89:16 ›
وَأَمَّا إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَهَانَنِ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
But when He tries him (by afflicting him with pain and discomfort) and limits his means of sustenance, he says: ‘My Lord has humiliated me.
Waamma itha ma ibtalahu faqadara AAalayhi rizqahu fayaqoolu rabbee ahanani
89:17 ›
كَلَّا بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ الْيَتِيمَ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
No indeed! But (the truth is that after you gain honour and good fortune), you do not give honour and care to orphans
Kalla bal la tukrimoona alyateema
89:18 ›
وَلَا تَحَاضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
Nor do you inspire one another (in society) to promote the feeding of the destitute (i.e., the poor and the needy)
Wala tahaddoona AAala taAAami almiskeeni
89:19 ›
وَتَأْكُلُونَ التُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
And you lay hand on the inherited wealth and devour it (yourselves and do not pay the poverty-stricken their due)
Wata/kuloona altturatha aklan lamman
89:20 ›
وَتُحِبُّونَ الْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
And you love wealth and riches inordinately
Watuhibboona almala hubban jamman
89:21 ›
كَلَّا إِذَا دُكَّتِ الْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
Assuredly, when the earth will be cleft asunder and crushed to dust particles
Kalla itha dukkati al-ardu dakkan dakkan
89:22 ›
وَجَاءَ رَبُّكَ وَالْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
And your Lord will unveil His Light and the angels will appear (before His presence) rank upon rank
Wajaa rabbuka waalmalaku saffan saffan
89:23 ›
وَجِيءَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنسَانُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
And that Day, Hell will be brought forth. On that Day man will come to understand, but how will admonition (avail him then)
Wajee-a yawma-ithin bijahannama yawma-ithin yatathakkaru al-insanu waanna lahu alththikra
89:24 ›
يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
He will say: ‘Would that I had sent (something) ahead of me for my (real) life (which would have helped me Today)!
Yaqoolu ya laytanee qaddamtu lihayatee
89:25 ›
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُ أَحَدٌ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
But that Day no one will be able to torment like His torment
Fayawma-ithin la yuAAaththibu AAathabahu ahadun
89:26 ›
وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُ أَحَدٌ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
And no one will be able to bind as He binds
Wala yoothiqu wathaqahu ahadun
89:27 ›
يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
O contented (pleased) self
Ya ayyatuha alnnafsu almutma-innatu
89:28 ›
ارْجِعِي إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
Return to your Lord in such a state that you are both the aspirant to, and the aspired of, His pleasure (i.e., you seek His pleasure and He seeks yours)
IrjiAAee ila rabbiki radiyatan mardiyyatan
89:29 ›
فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
So join My (perfect) servants
Faodkhulee fee AAibadee
89:30 ›
وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي
Dr. Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri
And enter My Paradise (of nearness and sight)
Waodkhulee jannatee
