89:1 ›
وَالْفَجْرِ
Faridul Haque
By oath of the (particular) dawn
Waalfajri
89:2 ›
وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ
Faridul Haque
And by oath of ten nights
Walayalin AAashrin
89:3 ›
وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ
Faridul Haque
And by oath of the even and the odd
WaalshshafAAi waalwatri
89:4 ›
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ
Faridul Haque
And by oath of the night when it recede
Waallayli itha yasri
89:5 ›
هَلْ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِي حِجْرٍ
Faridul Haque
Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent
Hal fee thalika qasamun lithee hijrin
89:6 ›
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ
Faridul Haque
Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad
Alam tara kayfa faAAala rabbuka biAAadin
89:7 ›
إِرَمَ ذَاتِ الْعِمَادِ
Faridul Haque
(And) the tall giants of Iram
Irama thati alAAimadi
89:8 ›
الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلَادِ
Faridul Haque
Like whom no one else was born in the cities
Allatee lam yukhlaq mithluha fee albiladi
89:9 ›
وَثَمُودَ الَّذِينَ جَابُوا الصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِ
Faridul Haque
And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley
Wathamooda allatheena jaboo alssakhra bialwadi
89:10 ›
وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِي الْأَوْتَادِ
Faridul Haque
And with Firaun, who used to crucify
WafirAAawna thee al-awtadi
89:11 ›
الَّذِينَ طَغَوْا فِي الْبِلَادِ
Faridul Haque
Those who rebelled in the cities
Allatheena taghaw fee albiladi
89:12 ›
فَأَكْثَرُوا فِيهَا الْفَسَادَ
Faridul Haque
And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them
Faaktharoo feeha alfasada
89:13 ›
فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ
Faridul Haque
Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment
Fasabba AAalayhim rabbuka sawta AAathabin
89:14 ›
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِ
Faridul Haque
Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord
Inna rabbaka labialmirsadi
89:15 ›
فَأَمَّا الْإِنسَانُ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَأَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَكْرَمَنِ
Faridul Haque
So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.”
Faamma al-insanu itha ma ibtalahu rabbuhu faakramahu wanaAAAAamahu fayaqoolu rabbee akramani
89:16 ›
وَأَمَّا إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَهَانَنِ
Faridul Haque
And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!”
Waamma itha ma ibtalahu faqadara AAalayhi rizqahu fayaqoolu rabbee ahanani
89:17 ›
كَلَّا بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ الْيَتِيمَ
Faridul Haque
Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan
Kalla bal la tukrimoona alyateema
89:18 ›
وَلَا تَحَاضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ
Faridul Haque
And do not urge one another to feed the needy
Wala tahaddoona AAala taAAami almiskeeni
89:19 ›
وَتَأْكُلُونَ التُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا
Faridul Haque
And you readily devour the inheritance with greed
Wata/kuloona altturatha aklan lamman
89:20 ›
وَتُحِبُّونَ الْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا
Faridul Haque
And you harbour intense love for wealth
Watuhibboona almala hubban jamman
89:21 ›
كَلَّا إِذَا دُكَّتِ الْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا
Faridul Haque
Most certainly - when the earth is smashed and blown to bits
Kalla itha dukkati al-ardu dakkan dakkan
89:22 ›
وَجَاءَ رَبُّكَ وَالْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا
Faridul Haque
And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row
Wajaa rabbuka waalmalaku saffan saffan
89:23 ›
وَجِيءَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنسَانُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ
Faridul Haque
And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think
Wajee-a yawma-ithin bijahannama yawma-ithin yatathakkaru al-insanu waanna lahu alththikra
89:24 ›
يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي
Faridul Haque
He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!”
Yaqoolu ya laytanee qaddamtu lihayatee
89:25 ›
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُ أَحَدٌ
Faridul Haque
So on that day, no one punishes like He does
Fayawma-ithin la yuAAaththibu AAathabahu ahadun
89:26 ›
وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُ أَحَدٌ
Faridul Haque
And no one binds like He does
Wala yoothiqu wathaqahu ahadun
89:27 ›
يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ
Faridul Haque
O the contented soul
Ya ayyatuha alnnafsu almutma-innatu
89:28 ›
ارْجِعِي إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً
Faridul Haque
Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you
IrjiAAee ila rabbiki radiyatan mardiyyatan
89:29 ›
فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي
Faridul Haque
Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen
Faodkhulee fee AAibadee
89:30 ›
وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي
Faridul Haque
And come into My Paradise
Waodkhulee jannatee
