1 The Daybreak

وَالْفَجْرِ

M. Farook Malik

وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ

M. Farook Malik

and the ten nights (first ten days of Dhul-Hijja)

Walayalin AAashrin

وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ

M. Farook Malik

the even and the odd

WaalshshafAAi waalwatri

وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ

M. Farook Malik

and the night when it departs

Waallayli itha yasri

هَلْ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِي حِجْرٍ

M. Farook Malik

Is there not in these an oath (enough evidence) for those who use their common sense

Hal fee thalika qasamun lithee hijrin

أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ

M. Farook Malik

Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with ‘Ad

Alam tara kayfa faAAala rabbuka biAAadin

إِرَمَ ذَاتِ الْعِمَادِ

M. Farook Malik

The residents of Iram, the city of lofty pillars

Irama thati alAAimadi

الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلَادِ

M. Farook Malik

the like of which had never been built in other cities

Allatee lam yukhlaq mithluha fee albiladi

وَثَمُودَ الَّذِينَ جَابُوا الصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِ

M. Farook Malik

And with the people of Thamud who hewed out their dwellings in the rocks of the valley

Wathamooda allatheena jaboo alssakhra bialwadi

وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِي الْأَوْتَادِ

M. Farook Malik

And with Pharaoh the owner of stakes

WafirAAawna thee al-awtadi

الَّذِينَ طَغَوْا فِي الْبِلَادِ

M. Farook Malik

They all transgressed beyond bounds in their cities

Allatheena taghaw fee albiladi

فَأَكْثَرُوا فِيهَا الْفَسَادَ

M. Farook Malik

and committed great mischief therein

Faaktharoo feeha alfasada

فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ

M. Farook Malik

Therefore, your Lord let loose on them His scourge of torment

Fasabba AAalayhim rabbuka sawta AAathabin

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِ

M. Farook Malik

Surely your Lord is ever watchful

Inna rabbaka labialmirsadi

فَأَمَّا الْإِنسَانُ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَأَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَكْرَمَنِ

M. Farook Malik

As for man, when his Lord tries him through giving him honor and blessings, he says: "My Lord is bountiful to me."

Faamma al-insanu itha ma ibtalahu rabbuhu faakramahu wanaAAAAamahu fayaqoolu rabbee akramani

وَأَمَّا إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَهَانَنِ

M. Farook Malik

But when He tries him through restricting his subsistence, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me."

Waamma itha ma ibtalahu faqadara AAalayhi rizqahu fayaqoolu rabbee ahanani

كَلَّا بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ الْيَتِيمَ

M. Farook Malik

Nay! But you did not show kindness to the orphan

Kalla bal la tukrimoona alyateema

وَلَا تَحَاضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ

M. Farook Malik

nor did you encourage each other in feeding the poor

Wala tahaddoona AAala taAAami almiskeeni

وَتَأْكُلُونَ التُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا

M. Farook Malik

Greedily you lay your hands on the inheritance of the weak

Wata/kuloona altturatha aklan lamman

وَتُحِبُّونَ الْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا

M. Farook Malik

and you love wealth with all your hearts

Watuhibboona almala hubban jamman

كَلَّا إِذَا دُكَّتِ الْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا

M. Farook Malik

Nay! You should know, when the earth will be pounded to powder

Kalla itha dukkati al-ardu dakkan dakkan

وَجَاءَ رَبُّكَ وَالْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا

M. Farook Malik

your Lord will come, with angels standing in ranks

Wajaa rabbuka waalmalaku saffan saffan

وَجِيءَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنسَانُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ

M. Farook Malik

hell shall be brought in sight. On that Day man will remember his deeds, but how is that remembrance going to profit him

Wajee-a yawma-ithin bijahannama yawma-ithin yatathakkaru al-insanu waanna lahu alththikra

يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي

M. Farook Malik

He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth some good deeds for this life of mine."

Yaqoolu ya laytanee qaddamtu lihayatee

فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُ أَحَدٌ

M. Farook Malik

None can punish as Allah will punish on that Day

Fayawma-ithin la yuAAaththibu AAathabahu ahadun

وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُ أَحَدٌ

M. Farook Malik

and none can bind as He will bind

Wala yoothiqu wathaqahu ahadun

يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ

M. Farook Malik

To the righteous soul it will be said: "O fully satisfied soul

Ya ayyatuha alnnafsu almutma-innatu

ارْجِعِي إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً

M. Farook Malik

Return to your Lord, well pleased with Him and well-pleasing to Him

IrjiAAee ila rabbiki radiyatan mardiyyatan

فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي

M. Farook Malik

Join My servants

Faodkhulee fee AAibadee

وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي

M. Farook Malik

and enter My paradise."

Waodkhulee jannatee
